You know what? I'm gonna say it. As someone who is asexual and on the aromantic spectrum myself, I'm a bit tired of the Doctor Who fans who all say that Donna is the best companion of Ten's just because they were best friends and nothing more and that automatically makes her the best companion of RTD and for a lot of you, the best companion overall.
Listen, I LOVE Donna. Adore her. And I also think that her friendship with the Doctor is amazing. But it has always rubbed me the wrong way that the companions who have a romantic interest in the Doctor (and let me tell you, there is textual evidence for every one of them that the feelings were reciprocated in some way) are somehow considered lesser BECAUSE of that interest. That just because they fell for the Doctor means that their relationship with the Doctor is cheapened in some way.
I personally think that just as platonic relationships should not be considered lesser than romantic ones, the same goes in reverse. Amy, Clara, Martha, Rose, River, and Yaz's feelings may have some weak writing decisions attached to them, but so does Donna.
Personally, I love Donna's character arc/the tragedy of her ending, but I've always felt a little disappointed by the fact that her becoming the DoctorDonna in Journey's End was not predicated on her strong characterization/choices (Ala Planet of the Ood/Fires of Pompeii) but by "fate" pushing it to happen. It's honestly more Dalek Caan than Donna making all that happen.
This is NOT to say that I don't love Donna, but just to say that the fact that she had no romantic feelings for the Doctor doesn't automatically catapult her above the rest. Romantic feelings can lead to just as interesting, well-developed character arcs/complicated dynamics as platonic ones can, from the creator/created reciprocated question mark wanting but unable to choose each other over everything dynamic of 11amy to the fascinating destroying each other saving each other one taking all of the emotional toll but honestly craving that prophet-god relationship of 10martha to the shaping each other making each other kinder and braver reminding each other there is hope dooming and saving each other of 9rose to the full dooming each other but running straight at it full tilt because we are purposefully ignoring the turn back now signs of 10rose to the batshit insane codependent reflecting each other refracting each other who is Orpheus and who is Eurydice of 12clara to the there was always someone else in the room keeping us apart but you somehow became my whole world and I knew you from birth to death and we will never be anything more than a shut door of 13yaz to the you doomed me and saved me and you hate me but you might have loved me once and i will spend the rest of my life devoted to you dynamics of 10jack 11river and 12river.
Every relationship is interesting and personal preference might steer you in a certain way due the character arcs/ending preferences/etc., but elevating one over the other because the companion wasn't "foolish" enough to fall in love with the mad genderfluid alien in a box who ran away with you and stole you away to the stars doesn't sit well with me. Romance doesn't cheapen a relationship just as it doesn't automatically make it the ultimate relationship, either.

follow up poll to my one about the doctor. which modern Doctor Who COMPANION would win in a fight against all the others. no holds barred. they can fight dirty. psychological warfare is not just allowed but encouraged (though not mandatory). just full on duking it out. this is not about who your favorite is this is about who would be the most devastating in combat
we're not including Jack Harkness because he Literally cant die. also not including Wilf because I love him too much to put him in these situations.

Meanwhile on the TARDIS
Rose: Doctor, come over and eat what my Mum made Ten: Oh Rassilion, not Jackies cooking, she cooks about as well as she keeps quiet which is badly, do we have to go? Surely you can just visit by yourself and I can- Rose: Doctor. You were supposed to ask what she made Ten: Why would I- Rose: And I was supposed to say me Ten: ... Ten: WAIT

The Doctor, Amy, and Rory Pond
Rory’s eyes are shining in the warm yellow lights of the pub. Amy’s smile is as blinding as a supernova.
These are the two people that the Doctor loves. These are the two people that the Doctor is privileged enough to get her forever with.
And yes, there is going to be change. And yes, the Doctor will be afraid of that change.
And yes, the Doctor knows that Rory and Amy will be afraid of that change.
But a couple of years ago, the Doctor stood on the stone beaches of Women Wept and promised that she would go to the ends of the universe for these two. She promised it more than a hundred years ago, standing on a planet dropped slightly out of time as she prepared to destroy the last of her kind.
The Doctor promised it to these two, in deed if not word, when she said her final words to them both wired into the Pandorica, ready to erase herself from existence if it meant saving the universe but most especially these two souls.
Love takes effort. Love takes strength.
And the Doctor has never backed down from a challenge.
-aletterinthenameofsanity, space and time takes violent, angry things (and makes them kind)
And you, you were the one I treated the worst
Only because you loved me the most
And I hope and hope
I would never treat anyone like that again
Grace, I know you carry us
Grace, and it was such a fucking mess
Grace, I don't say it enough
Grace, you are so loved
This is the only thing I've ever had any faith in

So, since I’m getting obsessed with the doctor human AU, I was thinking to make one myself!
The idea was a College AU but I’m not sure if I want to make it just some one shots or something bigger.
What do you think? What would you prefer? If y’all have any ideas/requests I’ll be happy to hear them :))

doctor who basically follows the adventures of a sentient, immortal deus ex machina. the way I see it, DW is a show composed of three main factors:
1. sci-fi nightmare fuel, timey-wimey ghost stories that will simultaneously terrify you and rip at your heartstrings
2. aforementioned deus ex machina equipped with joyous humor and grievous rage, great at giving emotional speeches
3. the most important part of this list: the run-of-the-mill, brilliantly brave, tragic human companions who always start out with stars in their eyes and always fall a little in love with the doctor
the doctor is defined by their companions. the strength of a DW season depends on how well-written the companion is. at the end of the run (which is also the beginning), there should be a familiar face for the undying mortal.
time rhymes, is all.

WEDDING OF RIVER SONG RANT INCOMING
Listen, I have nothing smart to say about this one. I'm trying to rewatch the Wedding of River Song and I literally keep stopping every thirty seconds to (OUT LOUD, mind you) shout at the screen "That's so. Fucking. Stupid. Stephen!" and then, in the moments I'm not commenting on how absolutely convoluted and full of plot holes it all is (how is the Doctor's death a fixed point when it never was before? Why does the world collapse like this? From where in River Song's plotline is the version of her in the astronaut suit stolen from? How is time collapsing and stopping at the same time? etc.) or how contrived it is that Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart's death is the one thing that makes the Doctor start running (I can feel you trying to make me think you're clever, Steve, and it's not working, because you only throw around beloved characters from previous eras when you want to distract me from your bad writing- I saw what you were doing with the holograms in Let's Kill Hitler), I'm rolling my eyes or being very sorely tempted to chuck my phone at the wall for just how sexist it all is. "Hell in high heels." The idea that alloromantic, heterosexual "sexy" love is the only thing that can save the universe. The fact that Amy can't remember Rory, her caring, nurse husband and instead only remembers a more stereotypically-masculine version of her husband (I am in your WALLS, Steve, why does every episode you write with them make them way more "traditional"/conservative than their one-offs do, no, I have not forgiven you for the Doctor asking "permission" in A Good Man Goes to War and Let's Kill Hitler).
By the way, did we EVER get an explanation as for why Silence Will Fall? Like, three seasons of build up and SILENCE NEVER FELL? (Why was there never any consequences for your writing, Steve?) Was the silence the cracks? Did the silence cause the cracks? Is silence falling supposed to just be the Doctor literally genociding the Silence (in which case Trenzalore has nothing to do with it) or is it supposed to be a metaphor? Or a literal deafening in volume? Will Steven Moffat ever listen for his crimes?
There were never any consequences for all of this "clever" build up and the Church of the Silence and gah, I want to poke it with a stick but if I poke it with a stick Moffat's Season 6 house of cards is going to collapse because not only is easily toppleable by the gentlest of breezes, it actively has cards missing.

this tag is the entire plot of doctor who
its crazy how foreman is like house but he doesnt want to be and yet always comes back to it, and chase is house but he can do it like a normal person and so he accepts it. and taub is house but only in relation to kutner being wilson. kutner is actually also like house, except hes so kind and trusting and he still manages to get house's results (& house hated seeing how kutner's repression worked out.) and thirteen isnt like house, but she can play by his rules and she does it well and because of that she's kind of a wilson-cuddy hybrid. and she's house's child. and chase is also house's child but he's the naive one. and amber was always house but more palatable for some and more intolerable for others all because she was a young woman and so house was more confident than she could hope to be. can anyone hear me in here

you know there's something to be said for returning to a story and accusingly going "how dare you. how fucking dare you." and you're the author. like, the call is coming from inside the house, bud.
(and yes, you are going to laugh, rub your hands together, and post it anyway, because you want others to suffer as much as you do)

people who have a deep emotional connection to at least three characters played by david tennant

people who will die on any hill defending steven moffats writing and every day this pains them (usually have really good analysis) (they can see the problems but can also see the really good parts & how the two are inextricable)
people who think fourteen shouldn't have happened
