ROUND 1C, MATCH 3 OUT OF 16!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda Under the Cut:
Brittany:
Her dress is so cute in this, this alvin and the chipmunks is very charming and nostalgic to me.
Scroogerello:
It's very cute, Scrooge is definitely an unusual Cinderella being an old man or duck should I say. And his fairy godmother is younger than him being Webby. He wears a golden outfit to his ball, fitting since his love interest is Goldie O'Gilt.

This 1983 Simon toy needed new mouth lines. I did this repair without tying any knots, so if the mouth gets snagged it will come out, but i used thick yarn and buried the threads well so hopefully it’ll be okay.
His glasses also needed a fix, one leg broke off from the frames and was duct taped together. I glued it with e6000 buuut I don’t think it will stay so I didn’t include a picture. I don’t think there’s a good, inconspicuous way to fix it that I’m capable of.

'Commemorative' image of the original Alvin & the Chipmunks (circa 1958, but more on that later) meeting the 'new' Alvin & the Chipmunks (circa 1983).
This whole thing reminds me of the two Jennifers' "I'm old! / I'm young!" bit from Back to the Future II. Try not to look so freaked out, 1980's Chipmunks.
So, although the CD from which this image was taken was released in 1993 (making the count of 35 years correct), the 'old' David Seville, Alvin, Simon and Theodore as shown are from the 1961 TV cartoon show, while the 'new' gang are based on the 1983/88/89 TV cartoon show designs. Still, it's a cute gag.
I also feel obligated to mention that A&TC (and/or the Chippettes) have released versions of "Beat It," "Uptown Girl," "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun," and "Leader of the Pack."

80s episode songs finally finished!
All episode cut songs from the 1983 Alvin and the Chipmunks cartoon have been uploaded to our Youtube channel! You can listen to them in the playlists linked below.
Season 1
Season 2
Season 3
Season 4
Season 5
Season 6
Season 7
Season 8
These are taken from the highest quality sources available. For some episodes, that means a DVD rip. But for others (mostly seasons 6 and 7), that means a 30+ year old VHS recording. Some of these could definitely use higher quality sources. And if a higher quality source becomes available, those songs will be reploaded.

Born on this day 70 years ago: actress, singer, sex kitten, perennial starlet, queen of terrible, terrible movies (like Santa Claus Conquers the Martians and Voyage of the Rock Aliens) and beloved kitsch icon turned credible and durable jazz chanteuse – Miss Pia Zadora (née Pia Alfreda Schipani, 4 May 1954)! For John Waters aficionados, Zadora will always be “Beatnik Girl” in Hairspray (1988): “I play my bongos, listen to Odetta, and then I iron my hair. Dig?” (As Waters raved in his 1987 volume of essays Crackpot,  “She’s shorter than Elizabeth Taylor, cuter than Alvin the Chipmunk, richer than Cher, more publicized than Zsa Zsa and has a better hairdo than Farrah.”). Every time I attend the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender, I endeavor to make a religious pilgrimage to see Pia’s one-woman cabaret revue in an Italian restaurant called Piero's, where she sings jazz standards in front of a giant Warhol portrait of herself. In April 2019, my friend Kevin and I even got to hang out with her, and she was a savvy, self-deprecating and adorable down to earth blast! I intend to commemorate the occasion by watching Zadora’s 1982 exploitation flick Fake-Out (aka Nevada Heat), which I just discovered is free to stream on both YouTube and Amazon Prime. It’s filmed on location in Vegas (in and around the long-defunct Riviera casino), co-stars Telly Savalas and Desi Arnaz Jr and is directed by Jayne Mansfield’s sexploitation filmmaker ex-husband Matt Cimber. How can I resist? And crank up “When the Rain Begins to Fall” and “The Clapping Song” LOUD! Pictured: Polaroid of Zadora by Andy Warhol, 1983.

Didn't Wanna Feel Old in 2023? Sucks to be You!
Happy 2023 everybody! It's a new year meaning I've got new goals to meet. Goals like finally publishing something, setting up commissions so people can pay me to do what I love, cross-posting between my account here and on deviantART, summoning more kaijus just so they can play elaborate games of poker, y'know, all that good stuff. It also means the return of my 'list of things that have reached a milestone anniversary' list. However, it seems like I've been doing this for so long that these lists have in fact reached their own milestone. From what I could tell, this is the fifth year of my doing this, at least on deviantART. If that doesn't make you feel right from the gate, I present the following:

So, Spider Riders fans, did you know the series was (loosely) based on a series of novels? Not a manga. Not a Japanese light novel. But english kid novels?
Yeah cause they are! It's a series of three, tho from what I can tell only the first two were adapted into the anime.
Now you may have know that, you might not have. But what you probably didn't know was who the authors were.
See, I often wondered how in the world a very obscure, not Japanese book, got made into an anime. Cause usually anime are either based on an existing Japanese work (a light novel, a manga, something) or is a totally original work. And if you are going to make an anime adaptation of a, not originally Japanese work you're gonna go for something, well known yeah? So how on earth did Spider Riders of all things manage this?
Well. Turns out the authors (who are married) had worked in animation before. Like. That was their JOB, not writing kid's books.
Tedd Anasti and Patsy Cameron-Anasti have directing and writing/editing credits on shows such as The Smurfs (1983), Ducktales(the og one), Alvin and the Chipmunks, Beetlejuice, Dragon Tales, The Little Mermaid (the tv series), to name a few. Like, they have IMBD pages you can check out for yourself.
Like, those are some pretty darn well known works. Which probably explains how they managed to get these books adapted, they already had connections in that industry. Which is WILD to me.
Now, if it was produced in English or Japanese first, or if both productions happened at roughly the same time, I have no idea. It's hard to tell cause they came out around the same time but I cannot figure out which came first if either did.
