I want to comb through river monster! Eddie's treasure trove so bad. Like what's his most prized possession?
Honestly it’s probably the radio that she fixes for him. He has a lot of shiny things a lot of gold teeth collected from victims, but the radio gives him a link to the rest of the world.
I had it in my head that Wayne introduced Eddie to music because he didn’t like leaving him alone for long periods of time. Mainly because Wayne knows humans like to encroach on areas they really shouldn’t and maybe if Eddie had some kind of understanding and connection to humans then maybe it would help him.
Not the clearest objective but hey, I haven’t written the idea in full yet 😅.
But yeah, radio for sure, probably something really shiny second.
#asks!#honestly he has a lot of trash because I’d assume people would go tubing#and thusly leave behind glass bottles and aluminum cans#that would float downstream and Eddie would be like wtf is this#it makes a fun sound#I’m keeping it

“For the past few years, a quiet revolution has been taking place in the wine industry. Cans are cool and bag-in-box is chic, and not just according to Vogue. The stigma of alternative wine containers, from kegs to cartons, has drained away. Perfectly portable, often beautifully designed cylindrical vessels are demystifying the rarefied world of wine. Cans are shaping up to be one of the most promising sustainable interventions in the industry.
Francis Ford Coppola’s eponymous winery was among those leading the aluminum charge, with its 2004 canned tribute to his daughter, Sofia Blanc de Blancs. Nearly two decades later, there are plenty of canned wines to choose from: an unfussy pinot noir from the Washington winery Underwood, a juicy Love Red from California’s Broc Cellars or Bridge Lane’s Bubbles, a fizzy blend of whites that slips down with disconcerting ease. The business of canned wine is growing rapidly, making up $235.7m of the global wine market in 2021, and estimated to surpass $570m by 2028. (It’s a fraction of 2021’s $424.99bn wine market, but a fast-blooming one nonetheless.)
For centuries, the 750ml glass bottle proved itself the best container for wine: humble, graceful and inert, and thus ideal for ageing. But glass bottles are responsible for the largest percentage of greenhouse gas emissions from the wine industry. A 2014 report by the Wine Institute, an industry association of California wineries, found that glass bottles accounted for 29% of the carbon footprint of wine – and that’s not including transport, during which the vessels’ heavy weight pushes emissions up further.
To top it all off, the creation of glass bottles in white-hot furnaces is hugely energy-intensive. We think of glass as recyclable, which technically it is – but in the US, only 31% of glass is recycled, compared with 50% of aluminum cans. For wine drinkers who care about the planet, considering alternative containers is essential.
A SystemBolaget study... shows that switching to three 250ml aluminum cans (which together contain as much wine as a bottle) cuts 79% of carbon emissions produced by traditional packaging. What’s more, aluminum is infinitely recyclable; almost 75% of the aluminum ever produced is still in use today...
Glass bottles are unbeatable for ageing wine, [sommelier Miguel de Leon] grants, but for the majority of wines, which are meant to be consumed within the first five years of being produced, De Leon doesn’t see why cans aren’t the go-to. “I feel like the environmental impacts really outweigh what the stigma is of consuming wine in a can,” De Leon says.” -via The Guardian (US), 1/9/23

El Anatsui ([ah-nah-ch-wee], born 1944) is a Ghanaiansculptor active for much of his career in Nigeria. He has drawn particular international attention for his "bottle-top installations". These installations consist of thousands of aluminum pieces sourced from alcohol recycling stations and sewn together with copper wire, which are then transformed into metallic cloth-like wall sculptures. Such materials, while seemingly stiff and sturdy, are actually free and flexible, which often helps with manipulation when installing his sculptures.

I was sure I'd mentioned this before here but can't find it (though we all know how well tumblr search works) so
Get or make a small square of stainless steel chain mail for your kitchen. It's excellent for scouring cast iron as it won't scratch the seasoning, but what's even better about it is cleaning dough off of things.
If you use a sponge or typical scouring pad to clean, for example a mixing bowl you were using to make bread dough, little bits of glutenous dough will get caught in the scouring pad and it'll be really gross. The chain mail on the other hand will loosen the dough but it's slippery so the dough doesn't get stuck in it (yes you still have to rinse it).
I'll also use it to clean really messy things like a 99.9% empty jar of peanut butter. Toss the square in the jar, squirt some soap and hot water in, close the lid, and shake the jar such that the mail spins around inside the jar for a while - very quickly cleans it and fully emulsifiers the oils into the soap so that it all washes away well.
N made this one a long time ago when he was considering making a chain mail shirt. I'm not sure where but he bought the rings pre-cut, because stainless steel can be a pain to cut. Just making the squares was a lot of effort (lots of hand work) but these have been fantastic to have.
They're probably safe on nonstick too, but honestly if you're using nonstick and stuff is sticking to it, you should literally throw that pan away because you do not want to ingest most nonstick coatings (yes some modern ones are supposedly ok now but the old ones were ok before so what happened? right)
#cooking#cleaning#chain mail#spoon shown for scale#i clean milk bottles with it too the square gets small#make sure it's stainless steel not aluminum or non stainless

Tanks and water bottles can be cleaned with citric acid. It's the main ingredient in those tablets they sell for cleaning your washing machine and dishwasher (brands like Affresh etc) but way cheaper. Where I live it's like $3-5 for a big 1 lb plastic jar of it.
I use it to clean the external water tank on our coffee maker once a week. Any less than that and it gets a layer of biofilm (The Ooze) and the water gets cloudy. You reeeeally don't want to drink that stuff.
And yes it's safe for metal water bottles! Just keep in mind that it may eat away any brand labels on the outside. If you want to avoid that, don't submerge the whole waterbottle, just clean the inside.
And if you use a tumbler with a straw, don't forget to clean that every single day! Especially the ones with that bump at the end to prevent the straw from falling out. Get a set of bottle and straw brushes, and replace the brushes every month or so.
U ever have any container or appliance that you only ever put water inside you catch yourself thinking 'i only put water in this so I won't need to clean it very often'. That is the devil talking. Clean it. Or you will summon the Ooze.
