Same Anon as Yesterday (Food pun anon) and I just wanna say something I personally think is missing from Rio’s arc, that I think is important.
So largely, I’m speaking from my own experience as a twin, where me and the twin were really codependent and I was definitely the more docile of the twins. What really helped me with my own personal inferiority complex was making the choice to step out of her shadow. Even though I wasn’t born talented at the things I chose to focus on, the fact that I had chosen to set out and do it on my own left me feeling proud and fulfilled.
To me, Rio makes this choice by becoming Julio, only to step back into her shadow (aka his comfort zone) after his redemption. His friends are her friends, his hobby is her hobby. In a way it’s like, regression rather than development.
I think Rio really should have found something that he’s passionate about that Ciel isn’t, and made some friends that care about that same passion. I don’t think he needs to stop being passionate about baking, but I think he should’ve tried to find something that makes him feel unique. He needs friends that care for him not because he’s Ciels twin, but because he’s Rio.
I’ve came up with various headcanons over the years to deal with this, from giving him a set of new friends, to him becoming more of a business kinda guy when they grow up. Like Ciel is the creative one who literally doesn’t understand the first thing about running a business and Rio is the manager who makes sure the patisserie they run doesn’t spontaneously explode or smth. If I recall, WV Rio likes sports as a hobby (might’ve hallucinated that, it’s been a minute) and I really wish canon had expanded on that, or his other talents. Because I think that would’ve been a much more satisfying way to end his arc.
food anon you're so right. my hottest take of all is that at the end of the series rio still isn't in a healthy mindset because he's put right back into the same situation that caused him to spiral in the first place except ciel compliments him sometimes and i don't think that's a great ending. when writing waffleverse i always ask myself "who is (pov character)?" and once i moved out of rio's julio era and his corporated mandated post-redemption angst i realized i had no fucking idea because postcoma rio just. Exists. he's ciel's brother and he's kinda grumpy and he feels bad about what he did as julio and that's about all you can say about him. he is unfortunately the hardest character for me to write because of that
#like you said the solution to rio's arc isn't ciel saying his waffles tasted good it's him getting to define himself independent of ciel#because the reason why rio's arc doesn't work in canon is because at the end of the day he is simply just an extension of her!#i've played with ideas like yours for other versions of rio that float around in my head#imo if they Absolutely had to have rio out of the story for 16 episodes why not put him on a literal bus. let him have an offscreen self#discovery arc. maybe he could cameo once in a while by calling ciel or something. i think giving him time to breathe and figure out who#he is would've worked a lot better#also wv rio does play soccer! it's a throwaway line in part 3. it would've come up again in part 6 had i not cut#most of the sports festival episode#since it was giving me a lot of trouble and i just wanted to get the fic out#anyways yeah remember how rio as julio was into experimenting... how he was good at sports...#i think both ciel and rio need hobbies outside of baking tbh. it's not healthy to be so hyperfocused all the time#i also headcanon rio as being the finances guy lmao. in wv it's yukari rn but in the future after yukari leaves he takes over#sorry for how long these tags are i've thought about the stuff in your ask a lot#asks#anonymous#precure critical#precure neg#once again tagging just to be safe#cure waffle au#rio kuroki

haha finally debuting my magical girl marvels au! i was thinking of a manga cover while making this; i really wanted it to have a kinda hyperpop and sailor moon style.
So! In my version of this AU, the Marvels travel through different dimensions to fight the forces of evil to balance the multiversal scale! They do this, via train! The train is usually a subway, but it magically adapts to the dimensions they are in. (Ex. Submarine Looking Train for a mainly water dimension, an old style train for a dimension with a earlier timeline.)
Billy Batson is a Train Conductor! I based his outfit on those train conductor uniforms and I really like it. His main base powers are, of course, lighting, and the ability to make portals! He uses the portals in his fighting style, dodging with portals instead of blocking attacks. Billy can only teleport to a mirror dimension without the aid of the train, so he actually teleports to the mirror dimension in fights when he dodges, then portals back to the og dimension. The train boosts his powers so his ability to travel to the mirror dimension is enhanced, and he can travel to other dimensions when using the train. (Other then that, its a basic portal power lol)
Mary’s design was inspired by fairy tale princes, which is actually really random but I made it work. I wanted the three of them to be different genres of magical girls, but still fit look like they are in the same style. Her base powers in this AU is basically charisma (yes, literal charms), and lightning. So, her charisma powers are pretty much just that people will be more inclined to do things her way; she lets off an aura of power + confidence that no one can say no to (besides Billy and Freddy, they are immune). She also will look extremely intimidating to people when she wants to. So in a nutshell, her power is to change the way people perceive her, and use that to her advantage. Mary often uses this to do undercover work, or info gathering about the dimension they are in.
Freddy, is a mermaid based magical girl. He can shift between having a mermaid tail and his legs. His base powers are hydrokinesis (ability to control water) and (can you guess it?) lightning! Though not shown here, Freddy actually uses water to float himself around. The water is thinly covered over his body and he uses that to get around without his crutches. He learned how to do this after seeing how he can float in the water when swimming. Freddy doesn’t do this all the time because it requires a lot of control and it can tire himself out. He used to do it all the time, but once in a battle, he shifted all his focus into the fight and lost control of the water that makes him float. Freddy learnt to not completely rely on his powers all the time after that. I’ll go more into this specific event later bc I think this scenario would really impact how Freddy sees his disability, and how he learns to accept it. I imagine this Freddy is more recently disabled and that he still has bitter feelings about it. The thing with Freddy’s dad in the boat still happened (they got attacked by one of Billy’s enemies), and that’s when he got his leg injury. He met Billy that way and got his powers. (Basically just how CM3 got his powers.. idk why im explaining it)
The thing is that I, myself, am not disabled so I need a bit of help understanding what that would be like to accurately write Freddy’s struggles with his disability. 😭
Another thing is that I’m not sure what their hero names would be? I tried doing those precure names like ‘Cure Marvel!’ but that would only work for one of them and I would still need names. Marvel *insert something here* or *something* Marvel is an idea but I wouldn’t know what to put.
yeah, theres my au lol maybe i’ll post more about it
edit: i did post more about it! heres the linked posts!

on the topic of men in magical girl shows being treated worse than women in shonen... mot only is it not true but a lot of men in magical girl shows are actually nuanced, full fledged characters with their own personalities and characters arcs.
mamoru chiba may be the poster boy for the male damsel in distress in magical girl shows but he's actually very helpful to sailor moon, supporting her both emotionally and in fights and doing everything he can to be useful to her. he even had a whole arc in the dream arc about wanting to be more useful to usagi.
syaoran li starts out as a rival to sakura and proves to be quite capable, even collecting a few cards on his own. he slowly becomes friends with her and eventually, her boyfriend. in clear card he's a very loving boyfriend and does everything he can to support sakura and make her happy.
touya kinomoto is sakura's brother who knows about her powers but doesn't tell her. he watches sakura from a distance and protects her in any way he can.
yukito tsukishiro is the alternate form of yue. he only knows about this near the end of the sakura card arc. but even then he's a good character with a full fledged personality. also he and touya are such a good couple.
masaya aoyama puts on a facade of the perfect, popular boy but deep down he's cynical and hates humanity because of what they're doing to the planet. but him meeting ichigo and spending time with her opens his heart. he also takes on the role of blue knight to protect ichigo.
shugo chara has many magical boys. tadase hotori, kukai souma, kairi sanjou, and nagihiko fujisaki are all just as important as the girls and they have their own character arcs. even ikuto is quite a complex character, that is if you take away his whole deal with amu.
princess tutu has just as many main male characters as female characters, probably even more and they're all extremely important to the story. mytho is the prince from the story drosselmeyer wrote who went into the real world after he shattered his heart to seal away the raven. fakir is a descendent of drosselmeyer and starts out mean but eventually grows to care about ahiru and plays a very important role in the finale. drosselmeyer is the driving force behind all the events in the series.
the precure franchise, although it did some of its male characters dirty (*cough pikario and takumi cough*) also has some great male characters.
seiji sagara is megumi's childhood friend who finds out about her being a precure. even though he doesn't have any powers he does his best to support her and her friends.
prince kanata is the catalyst behind haruka becoming a precure and he's a capable fighter who does anything to protect his kingdom and supports the girls whenever he can.
henri wakamiya is the first ever male cure (although he's not on the main team) and gives a wonderful lesson about gender expression.
masato aikasi starts out being very conservative but after his heart is opened by henri, he starts to learn that gender roles are stupid and even stands up for his sister against their grandfather.
and now we have cure wing, who is going to he the first main male cure in the franchise.
even though there are male characters in magical girl shows who are either done dirty or quite useless, a lot of the time the authors actually develop the male characters just as much as the female characters.
and this should be an example because if these shojo magical girl authors can put just as much care into their male characters as their female characters, then what's stopping these male shone authors from doing the same to their female characters? shonen being aimed at boys and the authors not knowing how to write women is not an excuse. if shojo authors just said they don’t know how to write men, they would get laughed at. so why is it seen as an acceptable excuse for male shonen authors.
and even if there is a lack of men in these magical girl shows, so what? men have like 148293 shonen anime with generic male protagonist #738383 who beats up bad guys and gets a love interest whose only purpose is either the damsel in distress or fanservice bait. let us have a genre made for women by women. it won't hurt you.

Wonderful Precure Episode 36 Review - Precure History Has Been Made
If Delicious Party had the record of having a male character fighting alongside a Precure while not being an actual Precure and if Hirogaru Sky had the record of having the first male Precure, then Wonderful has the record of having a male support character finally have his feelings for a Cure reciprocated. This is definitely one for the history books; it’s even trending in Japanese Twitter! Everyone wanted this so bad and so did I!
I was surprised that this didn’t end off open-ended or having Iroha putting off her confession on hold until she feels the same way like how some romance animes do. The pacing was great and how it was executed was great, especially for someone with Iroha’s character. I feel like Toei allowed this to happen because Friendy isn’t the leader/pink Cure as that’s Wonderful’s role. I guess your feelings are allowed to be reciprocated as long as you aren’t in love with a pink Cure? Is that how it works?
Iroha is a very loving person. She loves everyone, so it’s inevitable that she has a hard time differentiating what romantic love could be, or what makes someone special. She sort of reminds me of Sakura Kinomoto in a way that she loves everyone, but realizes that romantic love for someone is much deeper and more special than regular love for friends and animals. I’m glad that Yoko was the one who gave her that push as she’s happily married to Tsuyoshi, after all.
What I like most is that how this anime describes love isn't bound by gender, but how special your feelings are. Iroha only realizes how special Satoru is after thinking about how he’s always there whenever she’s in trouble and how she wants to be there when he’s in trouble. I love the words Friendy uses after seeing Satoru getting kidnapped by Zakuro. She uses strong words like “Yada” instead of “dame” when it comes to refusal and says “It has to be Satoru and no one else!” I think that if you’re understanding of how Japanese language is like, it’s a language of nuance in a way. There are words that gives deeper meaning instead of words that are used more casually. Watching a lot of anime helped me pick up on the nuances, hence why I got a little emotional when Friendy uses these stronger words to describe how important Satoru is to her.
I also like that Satoru’s confession is taken seriously by those around him and even himself. He could’ve brushed aside Mey Mey’s words as a joke, but he mans up and confesses to her, showing how serious this is. I think that’s a charming thing about him—that he’s straightforward and honest about his feelings and never wants them to be taken as a joke. His will is very unwavering, like how Zakuro says. I also like how Niko and Daifuku comfort him and praise him for confessing. I just like the positivity of being able to express your feelings and not have someone berate you on why you have to confess and such. Ah, youth…
Though, I did wonder why Zakuro just ups and kidnaps Satoru for romantic excitement when she’s in love with Gaou. I guess she’s just lonely and desperate for her love to notice her? Though, it was nice tension in a way for Friendy to finally act up on her feelings.
The real MVP of this episode is actually Yuki for being the person who has to distract Komugi because she has no tact when it comes to romantic affairs. She definitely did her best to match a dog’s energy and did her best to pull Komugi away during important moments.
I wonder how things are going to change now that SatoIro has become officially canon? The writers better not dip out after this and have them break up after a few episodes; that’d be unforgivable. Though, I am still a bit surprised that this happened in the middle of the series. Confessions usually happen towards the end of a story and is used as some sort of story conclusion. I think it’s nice that they’re not dragging it towards the end. This does give a solid confirmation that Satoru is not going to be a male Cure. However, I just hope that Daifuku, at least, is able to gain the ability to talk and become a human even if he doesn’t transform. Give the rabbit his carrots! What are your thoughts on Precure history being made?

Alright, Emmet losing his mind from the grief of losing Ingo is out- Hopeful Emmet is in! From now on me do full of hope Emmet! We stan hopeful Emmet here!
Indeed, he is so full of hope and love for his brother that he finds a magical Zorua that has goals paralleling his- and with his special new partner he turns into a Precure; "Cure Summit"!- Yup.
I'll like to thank "Rainbow Star" on Youtube that uploads songs from the Pretty Cure series for the inspiration for the format. They used to upload the songs with thumbnails like this all the time, but recently they stopped; no idea why. I think it was genuinely innovative and matched the charm the series has.
I struggled with the design for a while too, as male Cures are actually pretty new to the series, so I didn't had a lot of references to go by. Here are some extras from the process:
I was thinking of a literal train conductor, than an conductor (as in an orchestra), and than finally set on going with an "hiker / cowboy /adventurer" theme, thus the name "Cure Summit".
The song? "The Wind's Sympathy" as written, it's actually the character song of Cure Earth. But COME ON. I have not put the lyrics in there for no reason- Every time I heard it my mind went back to Emmet and his brother, not making the association was harder. The result is this piece. I "played around" with the lyrics of the song for the sake of the dramatic effect but I was already going by what I was given, so I hope any speakers don't find any of my choices weird. I'm sorry in advance!
Important note: I only took the song and pitched it down a little in Audacity to make it sound like a man's voice- Luckily Emmet is often depicted as a man with a thin voice. Or- *Ahem* A soprano, may I say?
(Fuck the people that use AI for shit like this instead of getting creative- I am not touching that shit with a 20 meter pole, I assure you! )
Oh, I also want to give some credits. I used the Sync Stones from Masters Ex game and made it their insignia (& used images of in-game items!) and I took some assets directly lifted from the Black & White game from "the spriters resource" website that people have put in a lot of work to pull out and used in the logo.
See you around and STAN HOPEFUL EMMET!!!

I'm so glad you love Kira Kira so much!!! It's such an underrated season ahhhh. The only thing keeping it from my own top spot is the treatment of Rio. He's my favorite precure character of all time and I simply can't let it slide T-T
Oooh yes it's so good! Like, it has the most well-constructed character arcs for each of the cures of any season, most are more lopsided.
Like with Ichika! She loves making sweets, but she's not very good at it at first. She's not a lethal chef or anything, she just isn't very experienced and doesn't know a lot. I loved watching her slowly work together with her friends to learn how to bake. It's not like some instant thing, you just notice her slow improvement throughout the season.
She does have something she's naturally gifted at, and that's decoration! She's really good at decorating treats in a way that will bring joy to the person who receives them, to the point that Ciel, a baking prodigy, actually learns from her in that regard.
Himari's arguably the most blatantly autistic cure there's ever been, and that's saying a lot. She loves baking and is an expert on the chemistry of it. Unfortunately, she's been discouraged from sharing her passion in the past, since her classmates got bored with her infodumping about the subject. I love her character arc about learning to come out of her shell and finding a way to use her infodumping tendencies for good by finding a receptive audience who enjoys being taught by her!
Aoi has my favorite character arc of the Cures. I love how she was inspired by her idol to become a musician and rock out with her bandmates, and how she's going against what's expected of her because, surprisingly enough, she's the heir to a wealthy family. She doesn't have any interest in running the corporation though. I loved her finding her voice and standing up for what she wants to do!
Cure Chocolat has one of the prettiest designs in Pretty Cure, in my opinion! Akira's character arc has some weaknesses, but it's still compelling. She's got a sick little sister she's protective of, and she tends to put too much on herself. I didn't really like that the show emphasized those self-sacrificial qualities - seriously she's gonna burn out at some point - but otherwise she's great!
She also has one of the most blatant queer relationships in the show. Like Kira Kira never SAYS that Akira and Yukari are a couple, but it sure hints at it.
There's never been a Pretty Cure character quite like Yukari. Even Yui, who's also a cat, is pretty different from her. Like she has this thing going on where she's good at everything instantly and it gets boring, which is why macarons interested her - she actually FAILED the first several times and had to work at making those to make them good.
I don't even really know how to describe her, she's so catlike. I don't think she actually changes a lot like the others do, you just see more facets of her. I love how easily she's able to act and fool villains, making them think they have the upper hand when she's actually playing them like a fiddle.
So her starting off as this haughty, slightly conceited prodigy who didn't think much of Ichika's merely alright pastries (given that she's world famous and has trained under the fanciest bakers in Paris), but slowly grows to see that even if Ichika's actual pastries are lackluster, they have a lot of heart, a lot of Kira Kira in them, and trying to figure out why that is. Her whole breakdown when she realizes how she just... didn't see what Pikario was going through, why he freaked out and ran away, and how he was then infected with evil and taken advantage of and STILL refused to talk to her even after being purified... she became a lot better at reading people as the season went on. I really love how she reached out to Biburi especially. She might not have been able to do much to save her brother, but she can help her at least.
On the bright side, at least Pikario got to be the first guy to have a claim to being a precure? Even if it was just a temporary power-up and he didn't get a Cure name, he was still first on that.
Pikario's the second-best Heel-Face Turn character I've seen in Precure (sorry Pikario, but Setsuna takes the top spot). I love how understandable his motives are. He and his sister went to Paris to learn how to be bakers together, but she's improving by leaps and bounds while he's being left behind and is becoming more and more frustrated, and she's rarely even around anymore. And then the last straw, when he makes the waffles she complimented so highly before, only for her to tell him they weren't as good as the ones from before... it was honest, but no wonder he snapped.
I love that he and his sister still had things to work out afterwards and that all his problems weren't instantly solved once he was freed of the brainwashing, the underlying problems that caused him to be vulnerable still had to actually be fixed first.
He definitely got cheated, he was one of the most interesting characters in the season (and the franchise, honesty), but he was put in a coma for a substantial portion of the show and didn't get to join the team permanently. But what WAS there still makes him a top-tier character.
---
I adore these characters so much, Kira Kira is SO underrated it's criminal.

In my opinion Precure is at its best when it incorporates the communities that the girls are protecting into it.
This of course stems all the way back from the original Futari wa. That shows main premise is "Ordinary days and people are important", and is by nature a normal slice of life whose drama is highlighted by the lengths Nagisa and Honoka go to protect it. As such, the girls have an extensive supporting cast, and the climatic battles often feature some level of emotional support by the supporting cast, even if they're not literally physically present. The girls are the vessels through whom humanities collective will to live is channeled. We spend our time witnessing this will within the people in the girls communities.
I've mentioned before how big a theme of community is in Fresh. There are a ton of minor side characters who make brief but frequent appearances to help flesh out this bustling city. In the end the girls reveal themselves to their community.
Princess and Heartcatch make great use of the victim of the week format to help build a strong supporting cast, understanding the motivations of these characters, who in turn help support the Cures in some way during the 11th hour.
This is part of what makes Happiness Charge and Doki Doki fall relatively flat to me. Their supporting casts aren't as fully developed. There's more one off victims. But there are still moments where this aspect shines, to me in Doki Doki in the involvement of the girl's families. The moment where Mana shouts her identity as Cure Heart is fantastic to me, I can practically see the gears turning in the family member's heads. The Oh Shit of it all.
While an identity reveal isn't a prerequisite for a strong sense of community it certainly contributes to the feelings. Both Futari wa's manage to have a strong sense of community, despite their final fights taking place when earth is reduced to a barren wasteland devoid of people, the fact they still take place on earth helps them make heavy use of the fact that despite being currently devoid of life these are places where there are meant to be life, and where life can exist again.
It's a big part of why while I love Suite, I feel it's objectively weaker than it's two predecessors despite mimicking them in so many aspects. In fact it's probably tied with the futari wa's for my favorite season. But I don't think it's nearly as good as it could be in part because of the lack of community compared to its predecessors. But what we do get of Kanon owns majority real estate in my heart. The entire town is so goddamn weird, and just down for whatever. If I could add an identity reveal to any season it'd be this one. I struggle to believe that no one in this town doesn't know (though that might be because they all are so oblivious). I'd take it away from Healin Good and Doki Doki if I had to and I love those seasons reveals.
Smile I feel is far more popular than Suite, and while I enjoy smile and think it's simplicity is to its strength it's really no surprise that the episode I care most about, more than 3/4 of the season combined, is the episode where Nao sort of kind of has an identity reveal. That's also partially because I just have a huge soft spot for kids. (Muse is my all time favorite. Go, make things worse you funky little messed up 9 year old. And I am probably one of the few people who actually LIKE the baby plotlines... which makes it honestly such an accomplishment that DeliPa got me to dislike their baby). But Smile has a lot of plots that are really self-contained to the main cast, and while I do enjoy how fleshed out the girls' families are the fact that they all turn into living rocks when the villains attack really makes them less interesting to me. Same with Tropical-Rouge, but Tropical-Rouge doesn't even fully flesh out any family that isn't Manatsu's.
Maho Tsukai and Star Twinkle both have fun main characters and worldbuilding, but the fact that, like Smile, the action and human town exist sort of separately from each other really keeps them from catching my attention. I want to like them. And I do. I just don't quite love them. I really love HiroSky's cures in particular, and adore the episodes where they are part of their communities, but do wish we had more of that.
And for what it's worth the miracle lights bring this sense of community into our reality, and they used to use the side cast to help illustrate this in the all star movies. It's great.
#I'm not saying seasons that don't do this are bad#they just don't tend to be my favorites#like I really do like the Star Twinkle girls#I wouldn't say their my favorite cures but they're above average cures to me#but the season isn't one of my favorites#because I find the sense of community lacking#even if it theoretically makes up for it in other ways#so this is incredibly subjective here and I recognize this#it is just a statement of personal preference#admittedly I need to rewatch... a lot of these seasons#I honestly think it's been nearly 10 years since I've watched some of them which is kind of insane#so take basically anything Post-Suite with a grain of salt bc I haven't rewatched it since it aired or in the past 8 years#precure

~My Thoughts on Wonderful Pretty Cure: Episodes 31-35~
~~~🎀~~~🎀~~~🎀~~~
~~~🎀~~~🎀~~~🎀~~~
Episode 31 - Nyanfluencer Mayu:
This episode was really sweet!
I feel like Mayu’s backstory about her friend kind of came out of nowhere in previous episodes. However, it makes me feel better about it now that they’ve talked more about it.
Chiran is very similar to Mayu. Almost to the point where’s there’s no difference between them. So I wish they added more traits to her. But she was okay! I really liked her chinchilla too.
It was very sweet when they both apologized to each other, and finally made up. I also loved how Yuki was watching the whole time. She really cares about Mayu a lot.
Also, we finally got more content of babygirl Zakuro! She’s so beautiful and sassy. That’s pretty much my type when it comes to Precure villains.
My Rating for This Episode:
6/10 - D-
~~~~
Episode 32 - Favorite Animal at the Zoo:
When I tell you I squealed when I saw Sora on screen, I’m not joking.
My babies are back! I was so happy! I wanted to cry when I saw Tsubasa. I missed that boy so much! We also got a short shot of the Witchy girls. I’m a bit disappointed that we didn’t get any dialogue, but whatever.
We got even more Zakuro, so I’m happy. You can probably tell she’s my favorite villain.
Lastly, I was pretty disappointed that none of the other Pretty Cure helped out the Wonderful team in battle. I was really hoping they would. But what can you do? I’m still happy we got to see them!
My Rating for This Episode:
7/10 - C-
~~~~
Episode 33 - Full Animal Smile
I don’t have much to say about this episode at all.
It’s just more filler. But I did enjoy seeing more of Iroha’s hot dad- I MEAN-
But yeah. That’s all I have to say.
My Rating for This Episode:
2/10 - F
~~~~
Episode 34 - Cat, Cat, Cat Meeting:
This was a nice, Yuki focused episode!
I feel like she definitely feels some jealousy when it comes to Mayu’s dad. Which, by the way, why is everyone’s dad’s so hot in this anime? Lemme see Satoru’s dad next…
The cat meeting was super cute. I’ve never seen one in real life. I don’t live in an area with a lot of stray/outdoor cats. But I wish I could see one! I think Yuki’s definitely gonna keep participating from now on.
I enjoyed seeing Zakuro interact with the cats. Or, try to. It shows that she’s not all cruel, and that she really does care for all animals. Too bad they did not like her back though.
Lastly, I just wanna know who on Earth came up with the idea for the Kirarin Fox’s power? I can’t take it seriously at all. I mean, I just watched a giant cat toy with Cure Nyammy’s face on it for like two whole minutes.
My Rating for This Episode:
8/10 - B-
~~~~
Episode 35 - Operation: Satoru’s Love Confession
I was so excited for this episode. But it didn’t exactly play out how I wanted.
I fully expected that Satoru and Iroha wouldn’t get together in this episode. I didn’t even expect for the confession to happen at all. And it almost didn’t! Thanks for the save Mey Mey!
To be honest, I’m hoping for Satoru and Iroha to get together more than I’m hoping for Satoru to become a Cure. That probably sounds crazy. But we already got our first boy Cure. I want a canon, healthy relationship with no weird age gap! And Satoru and Iroha would look so cute together!
I’m both excited and scared for next episode. I’m glad they’re not gonna brush this under the rug, and that it’s going to be the focus of the episode. But it’s not clear how Iroha feels. She looks worried or confused. I just hope everything will turn out okay!
My Rating for This Episode:
8/10 - B-
~~~~
Overall Score for These Episodes:
62% - D-
WonderPre ep 2 watched and oh man I love Iroha!
Couple things we learned: Komugi's ribbon has a new symbol on it, definitely to indicate her powers as a Precure. AND: the doggo now speaks in her dog form asfjhghsfkjf.
We also learned that Komugi was a rescued dog per say? Stray one? Like, Komugi found her all alone and scared, and took her to vetetarian? And slowly gained her trust but showing Komugi kindness and patience. Really, it truly made me adore Iroha, and understand why Komugi loves Iroha so.
Mayu also visited Iroha's family... store? I need to recheck what Iroha's family occupation was again, haha. But like, she found an accessory tha really fits Yuki. And, as Iroha's father pointed out: she clearly loves Yuki. Also, confirmed she's around same age as Iroha and Satoru.
Now, relating to Daifuku's backside... he indeed does not have a heart shape. Which makes me wonder what the point of the heart on both Komugi and Yuki's backhead is. As I would have assumed Daifuku to have one too.
Also, Iroha's dream reminds me too much of usual Pokémon protag dreams askfjhsfjfsskjff. Very wonderful (cough) dream of her!
Soo, Iroha was told to not tell anyone about Precures and Garugarus (that was actually named by Komugi. Not not an official name per say), but she really, really want to tell Satoru. Because she knows he could be of help. And the next bit is what made me really like Satoru too.
Bad screenshot timing but, he basically apologized for putting unneeded pressure on Iroha about the weird black colored creatures rumored to have appeared. Like, of course he wants to know, but he also clearly realises Iroha cannot tell him. At least yet. And he also assures that if she ever feels trouble, she can tell him. This is very sweet of him and I already can tell I'm gonna adore Iroha and Satoru dynamic.
Now, about Iroha's henshin to Cure Friendy: I thought it was way better than Komugi's. As in, the choreograph or however you wanna call the movement and happenings on the scene felt way more interesting and more fun to animate. Komugi felt a bit.... stiff? Not stiff as in bad animation but stiff in that, it was good animation but not a lot happened on the screen.
Like these parts are so darn lively with Iroha! And the transformation parts itself were so goooood, I really adore her.
I think she has a strong chance of joining my fav cures list as well.
AND, we got the usual "omg what is happening" scenario from her! Thou instead of high jumps it's high speed.
Y'know, the way her approach to helping the Garugaru is talking to it and introducing herself and keeping a calm, friendly voice of genuine wanting of helping is really adorable of her, and while it does seem like that, for now, the battles are more about helping the Garugaru to calm down, I'm liking this fresh change of battling. I'm sure that, once we get to know the truth behind garugaru's, things will change.
Next week, we'll be visiting Niko Garden and and I would assume that it is also when Satoru is clued in on everything, as he is finding the garugaru egg first before the girls this time around. Also, this garugaru is definitely the bunny from the poster and opening. Look at the jewel, it's different from others. I'm excited!
yk how lumiere and noir got "reincarnated" at the end of kira kira pretty cure? what are ur thoughts on that
mmmm it's one of those things where i don't hate it but i don't love it either. like i'm 100% fine with it for lumiere because she deserves the world and a second chance but noir getting off basically scot-free kinda annoys me (i promise i'm not one of those "oh my god the villain has to be horribly punished" people. i like redemption arcs! i love second chances! but i think they need buildup!) when he barely existed in the show itself. if you're gonna give him a happy ending i require an actual battle with him and lumiere and noir being allowed to get to the root of their issues instead of yelling at each other and then getting the precure equivalent of killed off a minute later. but overall things could be worse so eh
#also i've said it before but i greatly dislike noirlumi. it's toxic and i don't like the way the show frames it as some sort of implied#romance when they knew each other for what? three days? lumiere should Not feel guilty for saying no to a man she literally just met#well she shouldn't feel guilty at all but it would've made more sense if they were already close. like here. off the top of my head#they could've been childhood friends. noir goes off to fight in wwi and comes back. they reunite and the rest of their canon backstory#plays out. bam. makes more sense for it to be the way it is#tbh a lot of the finale is like that... like it's Fine i don't hate it but i don't love it either i literally could care less#fun fact that's part of why wv finale is taking so long. for three months i had no idea what to do with what i was given#and i eventually just said fuck it. no more canon as a guideline! my city now i don't care!#precure#pretty cure#kirakira precure a la mode#precure critical#lumiere precure#noir precure#asks#anonymous
Closing thoughts on Otona Precure
(spoilers)
I've tried to remain optimistic but man I can't find a positive spin on this. I don't think could stand on its own as a magical girl show aimed at adults because the story was kind of childish and a lot of the character stuff requires you to already be familiar with them, but it didn't deliver properly on the "I'm a Precure fan so I'll take anything" side either. Most importantly the show committed the cardinal sin of not only lacking any adult magical girl forms, but then it also didn't bother to include a new powerup look for the aged-down ones. What is this nonsense, everyone knows that your new magical girl season has to include at least one new look! 1/10 rating for that alone! (jokes aside I gave it a 4/10 on mal)
The inclusion of Nagisa and Honoka (and Hikari) was absolutely terrible; I don't mind their characters but their contributions were entirely pointless. Like if you don't know who they are it's just brand new nobodies with no connection to any of the plot and themes of the story who just randomly show up in the grand finale where everything is supposed to wrap up neatly, and if you do know who they are and are willing to accept them being shoehorned in just for the sake of seeing them grown up… we don't get that either. Oh how convenient how Nagisa and Honoka just happen to be missing from our bar meetup today! And they really didn't want to do anything at all with my girl Hikari, it was actually kind of funny how superfluous her appearance was. I guess the Futago Kamikita art is our only saviour here, at least they're included in that. Long hair Nagisa?
(also a nitpick but I really don't like that all the first five seasons apparently got retconned into happening in the same town? Makes the world so much smaller)
The time flower ticking clock also ended up completely wasted, I'm sure nobody expected Nozomi to die, but at least come up with some sort of excuse why everything turned out in the end and don't just say that actually there was never any danger in the first place. I hate to say this but even the light sticks from the movies would have been an improvement, have all the townspeople send encouraging vibes to the Precure which fix the flower issue if you must!
Then there's the visuals which were noticeably bad, ranging from poor cgi, lack of animation and just unappealing colour palette, and also kind of boring civilian clothes for the Cures. So the show doesn't have the excuse that at least it's pretty to look at or fun to draw either.
Then a final complaint that Coco and Nutts' mascot forms kept their shrill nails-on-a-chalkboard voices. Would anyone have complained if their voices had been changed?
Still the parts focusing on the Cures' grown up civilian lives were for the most part alright so I don't think the show was without any value. I liked especially the parts that were about how their problems are now more difficult than when they were younger, but that they'll continue moving forward regardless. But I would probably have liked the show better if it either had a stronger main plot to back it up, or alternatively scrapped the magical side of the story and was just a slice of life story.
Better luck with the MahouTsukai sequel, hopefully having less characters to juggle results in a better story.
PRECURE SEASON IDEA:
All Animals Precure, an animals & environment themed precure season.
Big bad is turning people into magical animal monsters because they're angry at how they're treating the natural world. The precures have to protect those people, and do a lot of work on changing people's behaviours. They also have to confront the bad guy about their attitude to correcting the bad things people are doing: wanting to protect the environment is good, but hurting people to do so is wrong. There is a balance, and a lot of things they can still do. There's hope.
(they kinda touched on this at the end of Healin' Good, and I'm surprised they haven't done a full season on it yet.)
But, all stars twist: the bad guy quickly realises their human animal monsters aren't strong enough, and after a couple of attempts to make them more monsterous doesn't work for defeating the precure, they find a magical device that allows them to transform magical creatures, and people. Bad guy starts being able to summon and transform previous precure, and each week, the All Animal crew have to defeat and save them. Each time they do, they get a gem, or some power towards finding the bad guy's base.
Could get through the whole cure roster this way. Just handwave the magic going in and out, straight to the monster form at the summon, and at the end, the cure or cures saved join the All Animal team for the ed each week.
Could use an interesting mix of cures from different seasons. Maybe Nagihono (or some of the older fairies) end up doing a call-in roll to help guide the All Animal cures through who's who when they're fighting.
Example:
The team are fighting a giant pink rabbit.
Nagisa, on the phone, hearing something by Honoka in the background: Wait, do they have a flower in their hair?
All Animal cure's lead: Yes! Yes, that's the one!
Nagisa: Oh.
Nagia: Well... the good news is: that's Cure Grace.
Nagisa: The bad news is...
(Giant pink rabbit monster flies across the background knocking the rest of the team into the next century)
Nagisa: ...that's Cure Grace.
Five minutes later:
All Animal cure lead, rather stressed and panicked and on the phone again: There's two of them!!!
Nagisa: two...?
All Animals cure lead: THERE'S ANOTHER RABBIT!!! TWO RABBITS! WHY ARE THERE TWO RABBITS?!!
Nagisa: ??? Two...?
Nagisa: ohhhh, that's Ichika.
Other bits/fun moments:
Which team has two red cures? ...they don't (unexpected team-up)
Yukari + Ellen stealthy big cat rumble (With bonus sparkle tiger)
Blue cure turns into a whale. On land. They think it's an easy fight but then it flops about to make an earthquake.
WHY ARE THERE DRAGONS?!!!
All Animals team tries to get ahead of the enemy. They think they see a flamingo monster, and are immediately like, AHA! That's cure flamingo! and all that, making a real meal of it, and then they turn around and Asuka's just standing there, unimpressed. They've just been harassing a regular flamingo.
Asumi, Tsubasa and Yuni immune.
That one time they just get harassed by a dozen butterflies. They're not dangerous, but just annoying, especially as they turned up while they were at school doing important things.
#precure#oc cures#kinda#cure grace#cure whip#cure flamingo#could be quite entertaining#I have thoughts on the animals too#some are quite obvious: Bird Mai#dolphin Minami#lion aoi#but then theres ones like saki: Bear#and so on#the cures collectively shitting themselves at the thought of the *ahem* specific aftereffects of the latest all stars movie#all animals precure#cure kindness
Wonderful Precure Episode 2 Review - Cure Friendy Takes No L's
This episode surprised me a lot. First, there’s the debut of a second Precure already. Second, the formula seems a lot different than previous iterations. Third, it makes me wonder what will happen later on. Regardless, I really liked what I saw in this episode.
I’m still new to Precure, but is it normal to have the second Precure debut in the second episode? Hirogaru Sky had it so that Prism debuted in Episode 4, as well as Delicious Party. I feel like this was to make it so that Wonderful has a motive to keep doing Precure stuff. Despite that, Cure Friendy’s transformation sequence was legit amazing. While Wonderful’s is good, Friendy’s is super well done from the hair animation to the brooch animation to the running animation. I love it a lot! My only gripe about Cure Friendy is that her skirt is poofy like Wonderful’s. Given that Nyammy and Lillian have different skirt patterns, it made me wonder why both Wonderful and Friendy have the same skirt. Also, Friendy? Really? That’s the name you’re going with? Not Friendly? I guess her design and transformation rocked so hard they took the L off of her name. She takes no L’s.
The formula is a bit different from previous series as it seems to revolve around healing corrupted animals without using finishers or combat. I guess it’s to tell kids to not hurt animals in a way? I said that it’s a bit different because the focus character isn’t Komugi but Iroha in a way. She feels more like the main character, which makes sense because she’s a human while Komugi is a dog meaning she has the intelligence of a dog and not a human’s. Because of that Komugi is rather simplistic as a character compared to Iroha who’s more prone to worrying about Komugi because she cares about her so much. I really liked the part where she starts thinking back to the day she met her dog and how her life changed because of her. Despite Animal Town being known as a harmonious place where humans and animals coincide, Komugi was abandoned. This means that Komugi is from outside of the town or there’s someone in Animal Town cruel enough to abandon their pet. I legit felt a bit emotional when I saw Iroha shielding Komugi from the rain with her umbrella. I am a HUGE sucker for any scene where someone shields the other from the rain.
Speaking of Komugi, I was worried about how they were going to handle her human form but it turns out that she can change back into a dog; as a dog, she can finally talk now, which is a whole new set of shenanigans for her as Komugi’s animal instincts have a hard time helping her keep things a secret. She accidentally tries to speak to Yoko, which Iroha covers her mouth and then speaks again when Satoru was nearby. Dogs do have short term memory, so it makes sense if she had forgotten about keeping her newfound talking abilities a secret.
Mayu makes another appearance in Iroha’s family’s pet center. It turns out that Yoko is a veterinarian and Tsuyoshi is a pet groomer as he’s the one who made the collars that Mayu seems interested in. I hope Mayu paid for that blue collar. Satoru seems to be a familiar face at Iroha’s place as he comes in with Daifuku and asks if he could use the dog park. Daifuku is so adorable. There’s a very soothing aspect about Satoru in a way, like his demeanor and aura. The official website for Wonderful Precure states that Daifuku is male, so I will be using male pronouns when talking about Daifuku going forth. I do wonder if Daifuku and Satoru will be mid season Precures.
The animals of this show are so cute. The ostrich was cute and the GaruGaru form was rather adorable looking compared to Mey Mey’s GaruGaru form last episode. Mey Mey is super adorable! Maybe I’m just biased because I like sheep but look at him! He’s a fluffy sheep! His schtick of saying “Dameeeee” with him crossing his arms reminds me of Lacey in the Indigo Disk DLC who does the same thing with her arms. Mey Mey is from Niko Garden where animals live harmoniously, like Animal Town. I do wonder what sort of darkness befell the garden that it caused all of them to become GaruGarus. It’s also the first time I’ve seen a Precure show where the villains haven’t shown up—just the monster of the day but not sight of a villainous team anywhere. Will they appear later on? Or is the villain just darkness? Mey Mey is voiced by Shinnosuke Tachibana. He’s actually not a newcomer to Precure as he voiced Prince Kanata in Go! Princess Precure. I haven’t watched that show yet, but I’ve heard so many good things about it. Speaking of returning casts, I looked up that Atsumi Tanezaki, Cure Friendy’s voice actress, has voiced Puka in the All Stars F movie, which I haven’t seen yet. It’s cool that they’re getting many returning voice actors to play new characters.
I can’t wait to see what Niko Garden looks like and what our heroes need to do to restore peace and balance to the other world. What are your thoughts about this episode?
“I like physical fighting so I’ll step out and not watch Wonderful, except actually I’m gonna stick around and complain about everything and call it boring even though I just said I’m not watching the show” <- what some people sound like. I think it’s ridiculous because we know they’re getting their tacts fairly soon + even in a pre-pandemic season, we still wouldn’t have the full cast anyways, so there’s no reason for action to amp up yet
exactly like i've seen a few people saying like 'we're allowed to criticize something we enjoy' and thats true but most of them aren't actually criticizing anything theyre just complaining. like if you don't find the main cast entertaining then i don't understand why you're watching even if there was physical fighting bc the fights usually take up less than half an episode so?? plus, in a lot of earlier seasons theres a villain that lasts a few episodes before theyre killed off so i don't really think theres much of a difference here. like obviously theres eventually going to be some kind of villain and its obviously a mystery atp and honestly i think thats fun! like even their mentor fairy has no idea whats going on so why should we? and also i know precure have fought animals before but those fights are usually contained within one episode, wonpre is entirely focused on animal/human relationships so having the cures hurt animals wouldn't exactly be great to show kids. i do think its important to teach kids how to treat animals with respect and to understand signs that an animal may be scared or upset rather than going straight to violence. i understand the concern that this formula could get boring and for some people it already is and thats completely ok but some people are acting like this is completely ruining the franchise when they could just say 'hey this season isn't for me i'll go rewatch a season i DO enjoy' instead of being annoying on social media. personally, i love the main cast so far, i think all of them have super unique personalities and thats whats making this season entertaining to watch for me. anyways this is the last i'll say on this because i'm having fun with this season so far and im not gonna let people's constant complaints ruin it for me!!
#asks#ok but another thing i thought of as i was typing this.. what if niko himself is the villain#plot twist
