shaved my legs so I'm a different person now
#I was impressed that my dinky armpit-hair razor actually held up to the furred terrain it was dealing with#we've had water shortages 3 years in a row so the legs just weren't a priority. this might be the first time in a year or so#exciting stuff lol#also today I got crowded into a corner in the metro by a guy who was in the ladies carriage (?)#he was a good two heads taller than me. no mean feat. and stunningly well-proportioned#like a Greek statue tbh. just someone god took his sweet sweet time on y'know?#but like we're in *ran and he wasn't even supposed to be in the ladies carriage let alone literally squashing me into the wall#so I escaped under his arm#and got my first set of non-ooh-look-an-Asian-tourist looks from the other women in the carriage#the looks ranged from /poor helpless you what the hell was he doing/ to /goddamn girl you want to get away from THAT?/#yes ma'am I'm practising to be a monk you see. and also I'm not interested in getting arrested on my morning commute.#and t h e n (adding to the confusion we all had about him) he wedged himself into a newly vacated seat in between two chadori women#and got out a crochet hook and headphones#clarifying: no room to move either of his arms where he'd chosen to sit (also he's! not allowed to sit there!). barely room to BREATHE.#and this man really goes no no the commute needs Enrichment. sat there crocheting.#two things: he was diverting attention away from me which I always appreciate bc I'm tired of getting stared at everywhere#and: am I in love with no-social-cues Adonis who I'll never see again? Have I just been away from people my age too long? wth#thought

So I didn't get in with the tryouts but it taught me quite a little bit about how it all actually works.
I have no experience, all I know about playing volleyball was the two years I did in an incomplete team in high school and recently I've been at 3 leisure practices with people who really just play for fun. First thing that I learned: you check your teammates at every point, whether you lose or you win. It helps keep the link between players going.
Second thing I learned is that I lack a lot of the basics (understandable after 5 years without practice and no real formal learning). I've never really been confronted with a proper block so as much as I love digging (receives) I don't know how to correctly position myself. (For example when the block is taking the cross shot I should really go to the left/right end of my zone and put my foot on the line to get the line shot).
I was really lucky that my team was nice enough to put up with my lack of technique and try to give me tips. Another thing is since I've never really learned how to spike my approach is terrible and I never do it right (coach told me to go back to get more control once in the air).
Thirdly my stamina is not good enough. This was intense and I powered through it on pure will but I should really do something about it. I should also work on my pass and my set cause they were very inconsistent.
Finally coach was really nice and tried to let me down as easily as possible at the end of the try outs in a one-on-one but I knew i was aiming too high and i was really glad to have done it anyway and though it would have been cool to be selected I knew my chances were slim. However he offered to go to the monday lessons that are actual lessons with the coach that taught him how to play and the leisure matches are against really good players who just aren't into competition.
I got one year then. I gotta get good, good enough to try again for competition for 2025-2026. But before that I have to get my stamina up in two months.
#my right thigh hurts a lot#I was so tired yesterday after it but it felt amazing#I love this sport#But I gotta get good because that's when you get to enjoy it more#I'm glad I still have another leisure practice on Wednesday but it'll be the last and then no volleyball for 2 months#I hope they just close the gymnasiums because of the Olympics and not all the terrains cause I have one where I can sorta practice#And I'll try to find an internship on l'Ile de Ré cause I know where I can find a beach volley court#This could help me a little bit#I'm up for my workout this morning but I'll go easy and stretch a lot cause everything feels sore (but not too much so its good)

ngl find this media response of humanistic moral outrage over neonazi activity and organized hate crimes rly grating like. not only are you reaffirming moral order but you really think if we produce enough moral outrage it will dissuade organized extremists who explicitly reject your ethical foundations?
#moralism is so fucking tiring#like pretending if we're all just upstanding enough we can just go back#to a time where their was a social moral consensus against overt bigotry#which never really existed#as if the door to expose logics of cruelty hasn't been opened and we have to operate on that terrain

you know, just from an argumentative and logical stand point the "but, poor people in the US don't have any choice but joining the military to get healthcare/college education/other benefits" kind of contradicts the "but, US citizens don't benefit from imperialism"
#im feeling stingy#and here's an outlet for those feelings#im just so tired of seeing these same points being repeated over and over again#i can only blame the over individualistic approach most ppl have regarding politics#like yes of course i know there's poor people in the us lots of them at that yes i know about discrimination and lackluster infrastructure#but how about we sit down and think 4 a sec about how the very few wealth distribution you got going on depends on bombing asian countries#or how that very wealth itself comes directly or indirectly from bombing asian countries#like these countries being bombed/occupied/meddled with through lobby dont also have poverty discrimination and infraestructure issues#lot of terrain to cover here with this subject and yes its unfarthomably complex but pls im just so tired#it almost feels like the goal of all this discourse isnt to understand imperialism in the current historical context but to absolve oneself#this place is just like twitter in the end jhghjgjhg

You’ve been tasked with seeking out new food sources for your village. Food is scarce, but thankfully, your community isn’t picky. You can’t afford to be picky.
One day, you find it: a miracle food source hidden away in ruins no one goes in anymore. Everything about it is strange— the terrain is unfamiliar, the food is delicious and plentiful, the circumstances suspicious. Could this be divine intervention? You decide it doesn’t matter much.
Your squad feasts. You eat well. With your bellies full of food and your hearts full of joy, you carry as much of the food back with you as you can carry. You feel very confident for the first time in a long while that your community will be fed.
Your village feasts. The banquets are endless. Squads are sent to continuously replenish this wondrous food supply. Everyone is fed and happy and it is good.
And you almost don’t notice at first, but you very, very slowly fall ill.
You don’t immediately connect it at first, blaming it on this and that. You’re just more tired than usual, is all.
But all of your squad members fall ill, too. The oldest one dies.
The plague (curse?) spreads throughout the entire village. Being well-fed isn’t enough to stop it. More and more families fall sickly en masse.
The squads are hit the hardest. That’s when you finally make the connection. The food is bad.
But it’s too late.
No one can recover fast enough. Everyone has eaten the food.
When the beloved matriarch falls ill, you know this will be the end for your village. There’s no way to recover enough people, especially without any proper leadership. You know your village will silently disappear, and you know you won’t be around enough to see if any survivors will make it out ok.
If only you could be there to warn them not to eat the mysterious food in the future. If only you could warn them that it’s a trap.

Fuck maybe i should put a widebody kit on my car after i lift it. Might need fender flares to be legal anyways might as well go big (THICK like a dairy queen blizzard) or go home right. It looks good in my head but maybe it would be stupid idk. Should focus on swapping the front first though i guess. And warm weather is approaching fast i need to finish rosie so i can lay this one up to work on it aughh
#im having doubts about fitting a 70 sidewall tire#im a big fan of making it fit no matter what but sometimes too much is too much#but. they dont make any smaller all terrain tires around here...
