John teaches his kids how to drive early.
Headcanons
W/C: 615
He starts getting them behind the wheel in his lap when they're toddlers, starts letting them actually drive by the time they're ten, they're fully capable of getting around by the time they're 13.
He only does this out on the private property he owns of course. It's not a big plot, but it's enough to drive a car around in. He sets up fake obstacle, traffic cones, and even spray paints the grass with lanes. Eventually he's driving the second car so they can practice merging.
To the kids it's a game, to John it could save their lives or someone else's. It's in the case of emergencies, when someone needs to be driven and no adult is able, when a call to emergency services is out of reach, when they need to get out of a tight spot and John's not there- God forbid.
He explains this to them at some point, making sure they understand that this is for emergencies. This is just in case. They should never have to. And when his son is able to repeat it back to him, John simply says "That's a good man."
His kids would beam when they finally get that stamp of approval. They know their dad just wants to keep them prepared, but come on, this is so much fun.
Fun until it wasn't...
John's wife had taken their two kids out to their little plot of land-a little farm in its own right by this time-one day for the fresh air though. Thing is, she's very pregnant with the third, and there is no cell service way out in this part of the country.
And she goes into labor.
John's son would be scared but motivated by his mother's calm urge to get into the truck, and trust what he's learned. Their daughter would hold her mom's hand in the back of the truck, nearly crying at the pain the woman seemed to be in.
Their son would drive, shouting at his sister to keep trying the phone. Call Dad. Tell Dad their baby sister is on the way. Call Dad. Tell Dad they're going to the hospital. Call Dad. Tell Dad they're scared, he doesn't want to drive into town, not really.
John doesn't answer. He's not done with his mission. Somehow though, in the light traffic of the early afternoon and with the training engrained into him, his son gets his family to the small-town hospital.
They take their mom in and one of the nurses is nice enough to stay with the kids. He'd console John's son as the adrenaline makes way to tears.
Finally, John calls them back. His daughter answers, barely able to explain what's going on through her tears, but John gets the idea. She passes the phone to her brother, and John's voice would be as calm as it could be.
Easy, son. That's a good man. You're mum's okay yeah? Yeah. You're okay yeah? I'm proud of you. I'll be there as soon as I can, yeah?
He was lucky not to miss the arrival of his first two, he'd be damned if he missed the third. He'd be there as soon as he could.
And his kids are waiting, both- all three of them- sleeping near their mother. She'd smile when John enters, the man sleep deprived and barely hosed down for a clean. He'd silently creep into the room, kneeling at her side and pressing a kiss to her forehead. He'd lean against her arm, staring at their newest little angel.
I'm so proud of you, love. I'm so sorry I wasn't here.
She'd smile and shush him gently, tilting their new joy just a bit so he could see her. You're here now. And so is she.
A/N FUCK I don't know where this came from, but I got possessed, cried, and wrote. Inspired by the fact that my friend really did this when he was younger, and his mom went into labor while he was alone on their family farm. (also to my knowledge it's not illegal in most places for children under the legal driving age to drive in emergencies? but fuck if I know or care.)

hi again i rlly liked ur headcanons for choi su-bong x shy fem reader and i was wondering if u could pls write headcanons of him x foreigner fem reader? ty and have a good day 🫶
ft. choi su-bong x f! reader — squid game
╰₊✧foreign! reader┊0.5k words
contains: headcanons!! reader’s native country is unspecified but she speaks her native language and english while studying korean!
➤ author's note: alright, this is the last for the short specific reader headcanons, the next thanos fic will be an actual one-shot <3
╰₊✧ notices you immediately both because you’re a cute girl and because you stand out in a crowd like he does. korea has a very homogeneous population, so people tend to take notice of you quickly. he probably greets you with a casual “what’s up” and decides right then and there that you’re going to be friends or maybe something more, you don’t really have a choice in the matter because people who stick out like you should stick together! he doesn’t mind if you’re shy because of your broken korean, he’s a master of language and wordplay and will gladly help you out!
╰₊✧ because he’s teaching you stuff he already knows and isn’t learning anything, he’s actually a lot of fun to study with. he always finds a way to make it fun and easy to remember with high-fives each time you get a question right. i feel like he was an awful student who went through a lot of tutors (only during exam season when he needed to get his grades up to pass the class though), so he knows all the best tips and tricks that worked on him when he was younger.
╰₊✧ is probably one of those guys who asks what the swear words are and what cultural insults there are. he wants to use them other people so that he can get away with saying shit to their faces without getting caught, something that he already does in english but would like to know more
╰₊✧ even if you may not fit traditional korean beauty standards, he thinks you’re so hot. might use the term “exotic” because he doesn’t know better, but he won’t use it again once you tell him that it’s objectifying.
╰₊✧ once you two start dating, he will seriously want to learn your native language. i can see him as someone who appreciates linguistics and admires multilingual people, loving to listen to music of all genres around the world and having a pretty diverse set of favorite artists. he might pout and bitch that it’s too difficult at first, but he’s surprisingly smart when he wants to be and will be conversationally fluent in about a year (it would be shorter if he was more consistent in his studies but alas).
╰₊✧ really looks forward to visiting your home country! he’ll try his best to be as respectful as his obnoxious ass can be, although i see him being accidentally offensive a few times because he can be a bit ignorant. loves to meet fans there and would probably go out of his way to make at least one appearance there if he ever had a worldwide concert tour no matter how off-course it may be.
╰₊✧ when it comes to meeting your family, he puts all of his knowledge to the test to win their approval (god knows he needs all the help he can get when he looks the way he does, especially if you have a conservative family). however, he doesn’t really care if they don’t approve of him as he finds it to be more of a bonus than a requirement.
╰₊✧ 100% wants to come back during your honeymoon, maybe even have a second wedding to adhere to your traditions if you so desire it. don’t worry about finances, he’s got it all covered!

A Taste Of Sin
ONESHOT
ꜱᴜᴍᴍᴀʀʏ: You were younger than him, tempting—wearing nothing but a sundress in the heat of a warm summer breeze. And Rick Grimes never planned on giving in, but you—you were the taste of sin he couldn’t ignore.

MASTERLIST & REQUEST GUIDELINES
You've had your eyes on Rick Grimes, not that it was anything new. Since Atlanta, really. You couldn't help but stare, even though you knew you shouldn't.
Maybe you did because the world was falling apart, and Rick was still trying to hold it all together right from the start. But then again, maybe it was just the way he wore that sheriff's hat when there was no law anymore, the way his eyes caught yours when you least expected it, and the way it made your heart race.
So when you saw him now, talking to Shane and Lori in the distance, you couldn't help but keep your gaze completely on him, your thoughts wandering to places they probably shouldn't.
You weren't stupid. You knew Rick was married, and you knew that Lori was his wife. Hell, everyone knew that, but it didn't stop the fire that started to rage inside of you every time you looked at him.
But the moment you saw the gun in Carl's hand, your jaw dropped.
And as you watched part of the group gather around him—Lori's voice rising in panic and irritation while Rick was trying to stay calm—something made you act and get a little closer.
"So on top of everything else, he lied," Lori snapped, her hands thrown up in the air like she couldn't handle another goddamn thing after everything that had happened so far.
Shane's voice, meanwhile, was surprisingly calm. "Well, it's my fault. I let him into the RV. He said he wanted a walkie, that you sent him for one."
You could tell Lori wasn't buying it, her face full of disbelief. But Rick didn't flinch. He just looked tired—drained, really—like this was the last thing he needed today. He rubbed the back of his neck, eyes half-lidded with exhaustion. You noticed the dark circles under his eyes, how his shoulders seemed to carry the weight of this new world.
"I'm not comfortable with it," Lori continued, her voice higher now, demanding. "Oh, don't make me out to be the unreasonable one here. Rick?"
Rick let out a long, heavy sigh, his eyes finally looking from Lori to Carl and back. "I know. I have my concerns too, but..."
Lori immediately jumped on him. "There's no but! He was just shot! He's just back on his feet, and he wants a gun?"
Rick's jaw clenched, but he didn't back down. "Better than him being afraid of ‘em. There are guns in camp for a reason. He should learn to handle them safely."
Lori's anger almost boiled over. "I don't want my kid walking around with a gun!"
And you? You couldn't stop yourself from speaking up, too. "But Rick's right, Lori," you said, stepping forward. "This is about survival."
Lori's eyes snapped to you, narrowing as if she hadn't realized you were even standing there. "And who in the whole wide world asked you for your opinion when it comes to my family?"
You met her gaze head-on. "I'm just saying, if Carl's going to be out there, he needs to know how to defend himself."
Rick looked at you as well—briefly, but enough to make your heart skip a beat. He didn't say anything, but there was approval in his eyes before he turned back to Lori.
"Look, Carl's not a child anymore," he continued. "He's gotta start understanding this world, Lori. You can't keep sheltering him."
Lori's face was turning red a little, the argument getting more personal now. "Then he needs to act like one," she snapped, her hands on her hips. "He's not mature enough to handle a gun!"
Carl stood a little straighter, trying to defend himself. "I'm not gonna play with it, Mom!"
But it wasn't just about Carl and the gun. It was about something that no one wanted to talk about, but everyone else seemed to notice.
And you knew that the cracks in their marriage were getting bigger. You couldn't help but wonder how long it would take before one of them stepped out.
Rick shifted his weight, his brows furrowing slightly as he looked at Lori. "We can't keep treating Carl like a little kid. Not in this world. He needs to grow up, and fast."
"Exactly. Just give it a rest, Lori."
Your words made all eyes look at you.
"I'm sorry?" She demanded, voice rising. "How about you stay out of this?"
You crossed your arms, still not backing down.
"No, give it a rest. Carl's not a damn baby. This world's gone to hell, and you're still acting like he's gonna be safe because you tell him to stay put."
Meanwhile, Shane smirked at you. But you didn't care about him right now.
"Excuse me, but this is my son we're talking about. Not yours!"
"Oh, we all know that," you snapped, stepping closer. "You just don't want him to grow up because then he won't need Mommy holding his hand anymore."
Her mouth dropped open, stunned silent.
You didn't stop.
"I'm just saying… Rick's right. Shane as well. He needs to learn how to survive. But go ahead. Let's see how well that works when a walker gets too close and he'll turn. Because from where I stand, you don't get it, do you? Carl's not a fucking baby. If you think this world's going to get any better, you're out of your damn mind."
"You're just a teenager," she responded, putting her hands on her hips like she was somehow superior to you. "What do you know?"
"I'm not." You stepped forward. "I know a hell of a lot more than you give me credit for. Maybe it's time you stop playing the victim and realize we all have to step up, not just Carl. It's not his fault he's growing up in this nightmare."
Shane and Rick stayed silent, but you could feel their eyes on you. You didn't care. Lori was the one who'd been pissing you off for days, and it was time someone called her out besides Daryl Dixon.
But Lori, fuming, turned on her heel and stormed off, just like that. And the moment she was gone, Rick let out a deep breath, clearly relieved that it was over for now.
He didn't speak to you at first, just glanced at you with that tired look on his face, like he had no idea what to say. Then, his voice came out soft, like it had to fight its way through his exhaustion.
"Thanks," he said, the corner of his mouth showing a tiny hint of a smile. He didn't say much, but it was enough.
You nodded, smiling at him in return. "No problem."
Rick gave you one last look before turning away, and you couldn't help but stare after him, your heart pounding.
The hours dragged on, the heat making you sweat. You leaned against the side of the porch, arms crossed, watching the others from a distance. Maggie and Glenn had just left, but you weren't paying attention to them. You were lost in your thoughts, as usual.
Letting out a slow breath, you stared at the dirt beneath your feet, the faintest trace of dust swirling around. It felt like the world was always watching you, but you never seemed to matter. They all looked right past you like you were invisible at best.
You were supposed to be part of this group, right? But somehow, you always felt like an outsider. Even back in Atlanta, when the world was still—well, a little bit more normal—you didn't fit in. The others saw you somehow as a kid. Just a teenager, no matter how much you tried to prove otherwise. Hell, you were an adult now, having had your birthday already, but no one ever seemed to treat you that way.
"Jim was the only one who ever really talked to me," you said to yourself, shaking your head. "Before he got bit, anyway."
You let the memory of Jim come back. He has been looking out for you, always making sure you were safe. You used to hate how it felt like pity, but now? Now, you'd give anything to have that feeling again.
But the others? Rick, Lori, Shane, Dale, and the rest—they didn't see you that way. They saw you as a kid to protect. A burden.
You rolled your eyes, fighting the frustration that threatened to come back, too. "Dale? Yeah, he used to look out for me too. But as soon as Andrea came into the picture, it was like I didn't even exist anymore. It's always the same. There's always someone else. Maggie's got Glenn. Shane's still got his thing with Lori… And Rick?"
Your heart raced at the thought of him. You didn't want it to, but it did. And you couldn't help yourself. "Rick… he doesn't even see me. Not really. Looking at me, sure. But he's too busy playing the damn sheriff, trying to keep this group together."
Your fingers twitched at your sides, fighting the urge to run your hands through your hair. You shook your head again, clearing the thoughts.
"God, what the hell's wrong with me?" You laughed, taking a slow breath. "It's not like I'm a kid anymore. I'm not some… little girl."
You let out another bitter laugh. "Now I'm just here, stuck in the background. Glenn and Maggie? Yeah, they've already got each other. They've got this… thing. And they're gonna keep it, just like the rest of ‘em, while I'm left here. Alone."
It wasn't fair. Why did they all get to find something? Why did they get to find a connection while you were stuck in the circle of getting replaced?
You closed your eyes for a second, trying to shake the feeling off. It wasn't like you wanted to be envious. But you couldn't help it.
"Maybe Rick could see me," you said, the words slipping out before you could stop them. "But he probably doesn't even know I'm here. Probably sees me as some damn kid still."
You laughed again, softer now, but still sounding bitter. "He's too busy with Lori. They've got their shit to figure out, and I'm just the quiet one in the background. Not important."
But the thought stayed anyway. What if he did see you? What if, for once, you weren't invisible to him?
"God, what I'd do just to feel him—" you whispered to yourself. You imagined the heat of his chest pressing against yours, the weight of his hips pressing against yours, the way he might growl your name as you wrapped your legs around him, desperate to feel him inside you. So fucking desperate.
Still, you shoved that thought away before it could go any further. But the yearning, that ache in your chest, stayed. The more you thought about it, the more you wanted to make him see you. You wanted him to see you as something more than just the girl in the background. Something worth noticing.
You were about to slip back into your head, your thoughts wandering down that dangerous path again—the one where you imagined Rick's arms around you, his body pressing into yours, his lips on yours, and him finally losing control—when you heard footsteps stopping right next to you.
You snapped out of it just in time to see Dale passing by. He didn't seem to notice you at first, his focus on whatever task was occupying his mind, but as he got closer, his eyes looked to yours.
It was as if he could see right through you and every goddamn thought you were trying to hide.
"What's on your mind, kid?"
Dale certainly had his way of catching people off guard.
You stiffened, unsure whether to answer. He wasn't the type to push too hard, but you had this feeling that he knew exactly what was going on in your head. You didn't want him to see that side of you, the side that couldn't help but fantasize about things better left unsaid. He'd always been kind to you, like a father. But since Andrea, that kindness felt almost like a trap.
You bit your lip, trying to play it cool. "Nothing, just... thinking," you grumbled, trying to wave it off. But you could feel the heat creeping up your cheeks, the telltale blush that was always there when your thoughts went to places they shouldn't.
Dale didn't buy it. Of course, he didn't. He took another step toward you, his hands resting lightly on his hips. He studied you, his expression unreadable.
"Thinking about what, exactly?" His voice had that certain tone, the one that made you feel like you couldn't hide anything from him, no matter how hard you tried.
You swallowed, the words almost slipping out before you could stop them. "I don't know... Just the way things are, I guess," you answered, noticing the vulnerability in your voice despite your best efforts.
His gaze softened for a moment, but you knew he was too smart for his own good. Too perceptive.
"You know," he began slowly, eyes looking around to make sure no one else was around, "I don't blame you for feeling the way you do. It's not easy... watching others find what they need while you're stuck in the background. But don't mistake that frustration for something more."
You tensed up again, your heart pounding in your chest. "What do you mean?" You asked, the words coming out meaner than you intended.
Dale's expression didn't change, but he shook his head. And him shaking his head always told you he was about to say something you weren't sure you wanted to hear. "I think you know exactly what I'm talking about. But you might want to be careful, kid. You shouldn't want something that is not for free."
You felt your heart drop. "I—" You were about to deny it, about to play it off as just your imagination, but something about the way Dale was looking at you made you freeze. His voice wasn't sounding accusatory, but more like a quiet warning. He wasn't angry; he wasn't judging. But the way he said it—like he knew—made you feel exposed and uncomfortable.
Dale let out a quiet sigh when you didn't continue. "You're not the first one to want something you can't have, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea to act on it. Sometimes, it's better to let things go. Before they end up biting you in the ass."
The words hit you like a slap to the face. You opened your mouth to respond, but the words got caught in your throat. What the hell was he talking about? Was he warning you off Rick? Was he implying that you had no chance?
But Dale just shook his head, as if reading your thoughts. "I'm not saying it's wrong to feel things. But sometimes, wanting something too badly can make you do stupid shit. And trust me, I know all about that."
The way he said it made you wonder if he was speaking from more than just observation. But before you could pry any further, Dale patted you on the shoulder and smiled.
"Just keep your head on straight, okay?" And then, with one last look, he turned and walked away, leaving you standing there, feeling like a damn fool.
Your mind raced, a million thoughts colliding at once. It was like Dale had read your mind like he knew exactly what you were thinking—what you were feeling. But the fact that he was still treating you like a kid, even though you were an adult, didn't sit right. And it sure as hell didn't help that you couldn't stop thinking about Rick, no matter how much you tried to distract yourself.
Dale had a point, in some ways. But the thing was—you didn't want to just sit on the sidelines anymore. And if you were going to make that happen, it was only a matter of time before someone noticed. But the nerve of him, acting like he had it all figured out like he knew you better than you knew yourself? That made you stomp after him.
"Why don't you mind your own damn business for once?" You snapped, the words slipping out before you could stop them.
Dale paused mid-step, his shoulders stiffening. He didn't turn around, didn't say anything. For a moment, it looked like he might, but then he just shook his head and kept walking farther and farther away.
He didn't get it. None of them did. And the worst part? He was right about one thing—you did want something you shouldn't. Something you couldn't stop thinking about.
With a frustrated huff and clenched fists, you turned on your heel and made your way back toward your tent. You didn't want to think about Dale, or Rick, or anyone else right now. You just wanted to disappear for a while, to escape the constant heat of the sun and the weight of everyone's expectations.
The air inside your tent was stale due to the summer heat, but it was offering at least a bit of privacy. You kicked off your boots, collapsing onto the sleeping pad. Sleep came slowly, your mind still racing with thoughts of Rick—his smile, his walk, the way his lips would feel against your skin. You could almost hear his voice, whispering things only you were meant to hear.
Eventually, exhaustion won out, dragging you into a restless nap.
Later, you woke up to the sound of raised voices outside your tent. Blinking against the midday light that made its way through tiny holes in your tent, you pushed yourself up, groggy and a little disoriented.
Maggie's voice rang out, louder this time. "Hey! We got your stuff."
You moved toward the edge of the tent, peering out just enough to catch the scene unfolding near you. Maggie stood there, fuming, looking frustrated and angry. Glenn was right behind her, looking like he wanted to disappear.
"Maggie, hang on, please," Glenn urged nervously, but Maggie wasn't having it.
"Come on in here," Lori started, but Maggie cut her off. "We got your special delivery right here! We got your lotion, got your conditioner, your Soap Opera Digest!"
"Maggie…" Lori answered, but Maggie wasn't done.
"Next time you want something, get it your damn self! We're not your errand boys!"
"Honey, I—" Lori tried again, but Maggie wasn't listening, fumbling with something in her hands.
"And here's your abortion pills!" She practically spat the words, throwing the pills onto the ground before storming off.
Glenn seemed to hesitate before he turned and followed Maggie into the farmhouse.
You let out a breath you didn't realize you'd been holding, your heart pounding in your chest. Maggie's words came back to your mind, louder with each passing second: Next time you want something, get it your damn self.
The frustration in her voice, the anger—it struck a chord in you.
Get it your damn self...
Your mind started to race, the thoughts clicking into place. Maybe Maggie was right. If you wanted something, maybe it was time to stop sitting around waiting for it to happen. Maybe it was time to do something about it.
And you knew exactly what you wanted.
You'd been sitting on the sidelines long enough, letting everyone else call the shots, letting yourself fade into the background. Not anymore.
The sound of the farmhouse door got your attention. You peered out, catching sight of Glenn stepping back onto the porch, his head low, before leaving Maggie standing there alone in the doorway.
She didn't move, didn't look around—just stared out at the fields as if she were trying to will the world into something more manageable.
You saw your chance and took it.
Stepping out into the relentless sun, you made your way toward her, keeping your expression neutral. "Hey," you called softly as you approached, keeping your voice light but just concerned enough. "You okay?"
Maggie glanced at you, her brows furrowing for a split second before she sighed, letting her arms drop to her sides. "Yeah," she answered, though the tone of her voice betrayed her. "Just tired of cleaning up other people's messes."
You gave her a small, understanding smile. "I get that," you said, leaning casually against the porch railing beside her. "Lori's got a way of rubbing people the wrong way."
That got a short, bitter laugh out of her. "You don't say?"
For a moment, the two of you stood there in silence. You wiped a bead of sweat from your temple, exaggerating the motion just enough to get Maggie's attention.
"God, it's too damn hot for this," you said, fanning yourself half-heartedly. "I swear, if I have to spend another day in these jeans around here, I'm gonna lose my mind."
Maggie glanced at you, her frustration softening just a bit. "Tell me about it," she said, running a hand through her hair. "Feels like I've been roasting all day. But I'm used to it."
You hesitated, letting the silence be just long enough before tilting your head slightly as if having an idea. "Hey, you wouldn't happen to have anything lighter, would you? I didn't exactly pack for a heatwave and a vacation on a farm, and I'm about ready to cut these jeans into shorts."
Maggie blinked, caught off guard by the question, but then shrugged. "Actually… I might," she said, her tone thoughtful. "I've got some sundresses I don't wear. They're just hanging around in my closet."
You tried not to let your excitement show, keeping your expression casual as you said, "Really? That'd be amazing. I'd owe you big time for that."
Maggie waved a hand dismissively. "Don't worry about it," she said, turning toward the door. "C'mon, I'll grab a few for you. You're right; it's too hot for jeans. At least, for you city folks."
You followed her into the house before Maggie disappeared into another room, returning a minute later with a handful of sundresses draped over her arm. She held them out to you with a small smile. "Here. I doubt they'll fit perfectly, but they should be lighter than what you've got."
You took the dresses, running your fingers over the fabric as you smiled up at her. "These are perfect. Thanks, Maggie."
She shrugged, brushing it off. "No big deal. Like I said, I don't wear 'em anyway."
You held the dresses close, already imagining how they'd feel against your skin, how they'd cling just enough to make an impression without giving too much away. You knew exactly how you'd use them, and the thought sent a thrill through you.
"Seriously," you said, your smile widening. "Thank you."
Maggie nodded, her own smile small but genuine. "Anytime," she responded, her tone lighter now. "And hey—don't let Lori get to you, too. She doesn't need to drag you into her bullshit too."
You laughed softly, nodding. "Trust me, I'm staying out of it. And away from her."
She gave you one last look, then turned and headed toward the kitchen, leaving you standing there in the doorway with the dresses and a plan forming in your mind.
Maggie had no idea what she'd just handed you once you stepped back outside. And if things went the way you intended, neither would Rick—at least, not at first.
The next morning, you slipped into the sundress that clung to you the most like a second skin, its fabric so light it felt almost indecent. The hem barely grazed mid-thigh, and you couldn't help but smirk at the way it looked on you.
This wasn't just a dress—it was bait. Especially since you decided to wear nothing underneath.
You'd barely stepped out of your tent before the heat of the day and the sun beat down mercilessly. The farm was quiet for now, everyone busying themselves with chores or trying to escape the relentless summer. It was the perfect opportunity to set your plan in motion.
You made your way toward the chicken coop, a basket in hand, one of the tasks you'd kept yourself occupied with as of late. Rick was nearby, fixing something with T-Dog, but you didn't look at him—not yet. Let him notice you first.
Crouching by the coop, you reached for an egg near the far corner, deliberately leaning in farther than necessary. The hem of the dress lifted just enough to expose the curve of your naked ass, the sun warming your skin. You pretended not to notice as you heard footsteps slow down behind you before turning to glance over your shoulder. Rick stood several feet away, holding a tool, his expression unreadable.
"Morning, Rick," you said casually, your lips curving into the hint of a smile.
He cleared his throat, nodding. "Morning. You, uh... need any help with that?"
You shook your head, holding up an egg. "Think I can handle it just fine. But thanks." Your tone was sweet, almost innocent, but you knew what you were doing.
Rick blinked several times and gave you another nod before turning back toward T-Dog.
For just a second, his mind betrayed him—an image burning itself into it that was just too quick to stop. You, bent over right there in the dirt, the dress pushed up around your waist, his hands gripping your hips hard enough to leave bruises. His cock buried so deep inside you, those soft little noises you'd whimper, and the feeling of your hot, sweat-slicked skin in the heat of the sun.
Rick swallowed hard, shaking it off like a man burned. Fuck. He needed to get his head on straight.
You bit back a grin as you watched him walk away, his shoulders all tense, his grip on the tool just a little too strong.
Gotcha.
The rest of the day passed in much the same way. You found little excuses to be near him, brushing by just close enough for your bare arm to graze his, or bending over to grab something at just the right angle to make his gaze wander. Every time, his reaction was the same—quick glances, tense shoulders, and a faint blush that made its way to his cheeks.
By the time the sun began to set slowly, you were sitting on the porch with one leg crossed over the other, staring out at the farm and admiring the beautiful surroundings until you were sure no one was really around anymore.
Waiting until Rick was alone now, especially with Shane nowhere in sight, you adjusted the straps of the sundress, letting it slip just a little further down your shoulders, and walked toward him.
"Rick?" You called out, your voice soft enough that he had to turn fully to hear you. His eyes looked up, immediately following the curves of your body before moving back to your face. He hesitated for a moment, swallowing hard.
"Yeah?" He replied, quite distracted.
You stopped a few feet away from him, tilting your head. "This may sound weird, but I was wondering… Shane's usually the one teaching people how to shoot, right?"
Rick nodded slowly, his brows furrowing. "Yeah. Shane's the best instructor I know. I've seen him teach kids even younger than Carl. Why?"
"Well, I thought maybe I should learn, too. I know, I know... I can shoot, but I was thinking it wouldn't hurt to learn it from someone who actually knows how to handle a weapon. You know, in case I ever need to protect myself even better." You smiled sweetly, shifting your weight to one hip so the fabric of your dress clung more to your curves. "But Shane's nowhere to be found. I think he's away and teaching Andrea today; I'm not sure. Think you could show me?"
Rick's jaw twitched as he glanced past you as if looking for an escape. "I... yeah, I haven't seen him half of the day, either, and Andrea neither, so I guess I could do that. But not for long. The sun is setting already. C'mon, follow me."
You grinned, stepping a little closer. "Thanks, Sheriff Grimes. I'd feel a lot safer knowing I can really handle a gun. You never know when things might go south, after all." Your hand touched his arm lightly as he turned, leading the way toward the area they chose for training.
By the time you reached the spot, Rick handed you a silenced pistol, his fingers brushing yours. His hand lingered just a second too long, and you caught the slight hitch in his breath as you turned it over in your hands.
"Alright," he said, stepping behind you. "First, you need to get a good grip on it. Keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to fire. Always treat it like it's loaded. Never point it at anything you don't want to shoot. Got it?"
You pretended to fumble with the gun, tilting it awkwardly in your hand. "Like this?" You asked, glancing over your shoulder at him with wide, innocent eyes.
Rick sighed, stepping closer until his chest almost pressed against your back. "No," he grumbled. "Here, let me..."
His hands slid over yours, guiding your fingers into place. His touch was firm, and you leaned back ever so slightly, your ass pressing against his hips.
Rick just froze.
You bit your lip, trying to appear oblivious as you shifted again, this time pressing yourself more insistently against him. The fabric of the dress left nothing between you, and you didn't miss the way he stiffened—not just his body, but the unmistakable hardness of his cock growing against you.
"Careful. Stand still."
"Sorry," you answered, shifting just enough to grind back against him, pretending to be clumsy. "I guess I'm not as good at this as I thought."
His hands tightened on your arms. "Stop that," he said, hissing slightly, but his voice betrayed him. It was strained like he was fighting with himself.
You didn't stop. You pressed back again, slower this time, letting the movement seem unintentional. "Stop what?" You asked, your voice soft and sweet, playing dumb.
Rick groaned softly, the sound barely audible, but you caught it. "Put…" He growled, stepping back suddenly. "Put the gun down. And follow me."
You obeyed, putting the gun down and letting him lead you toward the chicken coop.
It felt like Rick's hand was swallowing yours whole as he yanked you along, half-dragging, half-guiding you further behind the chicken coop. His boots crunched against the dry dirt, and your sandals barely made a sound as you stumbled to keep up.
The second you were fully out of sight, Rick spun on you, backing you into the wall. The coop creaked under the sudden impact, dust kicking up between the cracks. The secluded spot was shaded with shadows by now, with only the last rays of sunlight shining onto the ground.
"The hell do you think you're doin'?" His voice was strained, every word coming out with irritation.
You blinked up at him, pretending to be innocent, but your lips couldn't help but curl into a smirk. "What do you mean? I don't understand."
His eyes were dropping for a split second—just a second—to your breasts, where the sundress clung to your skin, nipples already hard.
He didn't even bother hiding it now.
Rick turned on you, his jaw clenched, his eyes scanning you like he was trying to figure out what to do with you.
"I just asked you… What the hell do you think you're doing?"
You shrugged. "And I don't know what you mean. What are you talking about, Rick?"
"The hell you don't," he shot back, stepping closer.
You took a step closer as well, your heart pounding in your chest. "So what if I do?" You challenged him, your voice barely above a whisper. "What are you gonna do about it, Sheriff Grimes?"
His eyes narrowed just slightly before he grabbed your arm, his grip firm but not painful. "You don't understand," he said, his voice rough. "You're—"
"An adult," you cut in, rolling your eyes. "I'm not even a teenager anymore! And I'm damn well not a fucking child! Stop pretending I am!"
His jaw clenched, his eyes searching yours. Your lips parted, but no words came out. The heat in his gaze made your stomach flutter, the sheer anger in them somehow making your knees weak.
"Sorry..." You blinked up at him. "But I just wanted to learn how to shoot. How to be even better at shooting, I mean."
"Oh, don't play dumb," he snapped back. "You're getting way too close—"
"Too close?" You cut off his words as you pressed your chest against his. "I don't think it's close enough, Rick."
"No. This ain't right. You're just—"
"Don't," you interrupted again. "Don't. I'm not. And you know it."
His resolve cracked. His breath was brushing along your cheek as he leaned in, closer than before, but with that same stern look on his face. "You think I didn't notice? Walking around in that little dress, no fuckin' bra, no damn panties. Flashing' your ass, rubbing' up on me with your tits like some goddamn—"
"Like some what?" You interrupted, tilting your head. "Say it."
Rick's nostrils flared. He didn't know what to answer, didn't know how to act, but that smirk on your face?
That made him act.
Rick's hand shot out, gripping your hip, fingers digging in hard enough to bruise. His other hand shoved up beneath your dress, squeezing the curve of your naked ass.
"Fuckin' knew it," he hissed like he was angry at himself for being right.
But he didn't move away. His thumb was pressing against your hipbone, the callouses of it scratching your skin.
"You think I ain't got more important shit to deal with right now?" He snapped, but it was weak, crumbling. "Like searching for Sophia?"
"Of course you do. But you also need to relax from time to time, Rick," you purred, voice as sweet as syrup, fingers sliding up his chest, feeling his heart beating through the sweat-damp fabric. "You're wound up so tight, it's gotta hurt after a while."
He laughed—loud, humorless. "Yeah? And you think you're the solution?"
You leaned in, lips ghosting over the stubble on his jaw. "I could be."
Rick's hand slid higher, fingers tracing the curve of your spine, dragging your body closer until your hips met his. You felt it—his cock—hard and thick, pressing against your stomach. He wasn't fooling anyone.
But still, he held back, teeth grinding.
"This isn't a good idea," he muttered, voice strained.
You rolled your hips, slow and deliberate, grinding against him, feeling the twitch in his cock through his pants. "Feels like a good idea to me."
"Jesus f-fuck…" He stuttered, but he didn't move.
You pulled back just enough to look him in the eye, your smirk softening into a warm smile. "Unless… you can't handle it."
Rick's eyes snapped to yours. For a moment, the world stood still—the distant voices near the house, the rustle of leaves, and even the clucking of chickens felt far away.
He leaned in, so close his lips barely brushed yours when he spoke.
"Don't fuckin' test me. This is wrong." His voice was almost a growl. "I got a wife. I got a son."
You could feel the words scraping his throat like they physically hurt coming out.
"Oh, now you remember?" You shot back, eyes narrowing. "That didn't stop you from staring every damn time I bent over. Since Atlanta."
Rick flinched, just barely, but it was there. His grip slipped for half a second before tightening again.
"Don't—"
"What? Tell the truth? You don't want me to tell the truth?" You leaned in, voice dropping to a whisper again. "You've been watching me. You think I didn't notice? The way your eyes stared at me, the way you tensed up when I walked by?"
Rick's jaw was clenched so tight you thought it might dislocate itself.
"Doesn't matter," he spat out, like saying it again would make it real, make it matter. "I'm married."
"Yeah? And Lori's really faithful, huh?"
His whole body went still. Rigid.
"Just," he warned, but his voice had lost its bite. "Just stop it."
"I'm just saying!" You tilted your head. "Maybe I'm not the only one who's been looking for… comfort. And I bet you know it and knew it for some time now."
Rick didn't say a word. His grip on you loosened for a second, and that was all the opening you needed.
"What's the matter, Rick? Don't like hearing the truth? You really think Shane's out there teaching Andrea how to shoot right now? Or is he too busy teaching Lori how to fuck like a married woman should? Who knows, right?"
Rick's breath hitched—just barely—but it was enough.
"Yeah. That's what I thought. You're really still holding onto that lie of a marriage, aren't you?" You pressed, leaning in just a little closer. "That picture-perfect family you've convinced yourself is still intact while the world's gone to shit?"
You didn't miss how his chest rose and fell faster, heavier.
"Fuck you," he spat, but it wasn't anger—it was defeat. Frustration.
"Maybe you should."
That was it.
He lunged forward, smashing his mouth against yours, teeth clashing, lips bruising. It wasn't a kiss—it was punishment, it was desperation, it was everything all at once.
His hands were everywhere—one tangled in your hair, yanking your head back, the other gripping your ass so hard you swore he'd leave marks.
You gasped against him, but it only opened you up for more, his tongue forcing its way past your lips, deep and unforgiving.
Your hands clawed at his shirt, nails scraping against the sweaty fabric, trying to pull him closer, closer, like there was any space left between you.
Rick shoved you harder against the chicken coop wall as you hooked a leg around his hip, grinding up against the length of his hard cock.
"Just… just keep it quiet," he growled against your skin. "Or someone'll hear."
But the risk made it more exciting.
Your hips ground into his, chasing friction, and Rick groaned, biting down on your shoulder to muffle it in desperation. He seemed caught between wanting to shove you away and drag you closer.
"This isn't right…" He whispered, more to himself than to you. His hands kept you in place, fingers digging into your body. "You may be an adult, but you're still too young for me."
You huffed a laugh, breathing against his neck. "But not too young for you to stare at, huh?"
Both his hands moved before his mind could catch up, gripping your hips and suddenly lifting you like you weighed nothing. You gasped, both of your legs instinctively wrapping around his waist, the sundress riding up to your hips, leaving nothing between you but his jeans straining against his cock.
Rick slammed you back against the chicken coop with force before his mouth was on yours again—messy, wet, desperate. One hand anchored under your ass while the other slid up, muffling the needy sounds coming from your lips against his shoulder.
You barely had a second to catch your breath before he was undoing his belt with one hand, fumbling, cursing quietly under his breath. The sound of it opening, the noise of a zipper, and then he was free, thick and hard, pressing hard and insistent against you, twitching and leaking.
He hesitated for a fraction of a second, forehead pressed to yours, his breathing ragged.
"This is your last chance to tell me to stop," he growled out, barely holding it together.
Your answer was a slow, greedy roll of your hips against him.
That was all it took.
Rick pushed into you in one hard, punishing thrust, splitting you open around him, filling you so deep with his cock that it knocked the breath straight from your lungs.
Your muffled cry was swallowed against his shoulder still, his hand on the back of your head pushing you against him, his teeth sinking into the curve of your neck to silence the groan that tore from his own throat.
"Shit," he hissed, voice ragged, hips slamming into yours again, harder this time as you clamped your legs around his hips. "So fuckin' tight..."
You clung to him, nails digging into his back, feeling the rough slide of his pants against the backs of your thighs with every brutal, deep thrust.
The chicken coop creaked behind you, every slap of his hips against yours making you think the noise may be way too loud in the warm summer air.
"Stay quiet," he growled again, but his voice was shaky, desperate. His hand didn't leave the back of your head, his palm sweaty against your disheveled hair.
But the risk—the sheer danger and wrongness of it—only made you feel higher.
Anyone could walk by. Carol. Shane. Dale. Anyone else from the group. Even the Greenes.
But Rick didn't stop. Didn't slow down.
His grip on you tightened, bruising, holding you open and steady for him, driving into you over and over, harder, deeper.
The heat, the sweat, the sound of his labored breathing in your ear—it was overwhelming, delicious. And exactly what you wanted.
"Goddamn it…" He cursed to himself, his face still buried in your neck, teeth scraping against your sensitive skin.
But still, he held back. His pace was slow and deep, but he wasn't chasing the end of it—of this—not yet.
It was punishment. It was control.
And it was slipping.
The way his breath hitched, the ragged growls that tore from his throat—he was losing it, and you could feel it.
His hand remained firm against your mouth, but it wasn't as tight as before. His chest rose and fell quickly as if the restraint was killing him. His eyes, when he pulled his head back to look at you, opened for a moment. They were wild, like a man fighting against a storm that was brewing inside himself.
"You need to stop," he groaned, but the words sounded weak.
You arched into him, bouncing up and down on his cock in perfect rhythm, urging him on as you held on tight. "Me? And what about you? Are you sure you can, Rick?" Your voice was sweet and teasing, and it made his breath hitch. "You've been staring at me all this time. You've been fuckin' dreaming about this, haven't you?"
"Don't push me."
But you didn't listen. You never did.
One of your hands slid from his shoulder, down his chest, feeling him tense up even more. Slowly, you ran your fingers over his abs, letting him fuck you just the way he wanted to.
"What would Lori think if she saw us like this?" You suddenly whispered, eyes looking up to meet his as you bit your lower lip, leaning in closer. "Does she ever wonder why you look at me like that? Why you don't stop staring when I walk past? You think she's worried?"
Rick's whole body went still for a moment, but he stayed inside you. He let out a deep, controlled breath, but his eyes never left yours. You could see the fight in him, the battle to do the right thing, to not cross that line. But it was already crossed—crossed faster than he'd ever care to admit.
You moved your hips against his all over, dragging a moan from him as your legs tightened around his waist. You knew exactly what you were doing to him.
The words were poison, but Rick was too far gone to stop himself from letting them sink in.
"Don't… don't talk about her."
You smirked, feeling a rush of power, the heat of the moment making your heart race faster. "But it's true, isn't it, Rick? She doesn't need to know about us. She's too busy with Shane, right? You wouldn't be here if you didn't know. You wouldn't want this if…"
His eyes narrowed at the mention of Shane, and you saw the doubt on his face. But then his hips moved, fucking into you harder, faster, almost like he was trying to drown out the words you'd said.
You slid one hand up to his face, fingers moving slowly along the line of his jaw, urging him to look at you. "You want this. You want me. You can't stop yourself, and I know it."
His hands clenched on your body, as if the weight of your words was pushing him further into that abyss he'd been fighting against. The pulse between your legs grew unbearable, the need for him, the craving for him deeper than before. You could feel his cock twitch inside you, his body barely holding on, his legs trying not to buckle, but still not giving in.
"You're wrong…" He groaned, but his eyes told a different story. His breath was coming faster now, uneven, like he was trying to resist the inevitable. But the heat between you both couldn't be ignored.
Your mouth found his again, lips teasing, pressing against his in slow, sensual kisses. You moved against him once more, slow and deliberate, until he hissed, his grip tightening once again.
"Am I? Because… I think you like this," you whispered against his lips, your breath coming in shallow bursts of moans. "I think you like knowing you could still fuck me even with all the other shit going on. You love it."
His lips trembled against yours, him thrusting into you like he was trying to rid himself of any thought other than this, just the two of you at this moment.
"Because you've been teasing' me all damn day," he whispered as if he was choking on the words. "Walking around like that, letting me see everything—"
"Wanted you to look," you gasped, bouncing harder on him, shameless. "Wanted you to fuck me."
"Goddamn dress," Rick moaned as he squeezed you harder, his fingers digging into your flesh as he drove into you faster. "Knew you weren't wearin' a fuckin' thing under this. Knew you wanted me to see it."
"I did," you gasped, your words broken. "Wanted you to—oh, fuck—do this!"
Rick's mouth found your neck, his beard scraping against your sensitive skin as he bit and kissed a sloppy trail along your throat. You could feel him everywhere—his hands, his cock, his lips—taking you in a way that was so raw and desperate that it left you trembling and made it hard for your legs to keep holding on.
You bucked against him, rolling your hips in time with his, meeting him thrust for thrust as your moans grew a little bit louder, but Rick silenced you by crashing his mouth to yours, his tongue sliding against yours with the same urgency as his movements.
"I feel you," he then groaned against your lips, his voice cracking. His grip on your ass softened slightly as if he couldn't decide between fucking you senseless or worshipping you. "You're close, aren't you? You're gonna come for me, won't you?"
"Y-yes," you whimpered quietly, your nails raking over his shoulders through his shirt. "Rick, don't stop—please, don't stop—not now."
His thrusts stopped for half a second, and then he suddenly slowed down, his thrusts deep and on purpose now, dragging out the feeling with every inch of his cock sliding into you. One of his hands slipped from your ass back to your lower back, pulling you impossibly closer, grinding his hips into yours so you could feel every bit of him.
"Come for me," he whispered, his lips brushing against your ear. His voice was softer now, gentler, but no less commanding. "Let me feel you... Let me see you fall apart on me."
You shattered with a silent cry, eyes wide, your body clenching around him as your orgasm ripped through you. Rick groaned, his grip tightening on you again as he kept moving, drawing out every shiver and whimper.
But he didn't stop. Not yet. You felt him still holding back, his cock throbbing inside you, a tiny drop of sweat rolling down his face. His thrusts slowed even further, almost agonizingly sensual now as if he was savoring every second.
"Rick…" You whispered, your voice hoarse, your fingers trying to hold on to his shoulders again. His eyes met yours once more, searching, and questioning, before he pulled back slightly, his forehead resting against yours, his thrusts slowing to a halt as he fought to regain control.
"I can't," he stammered. "Not yet."
He was still fighting it. Fighting you. And himself.
You shifted slightly, a sensual roll of your hips that made him hiss through his teeth. "Don't," he groaned, his voice strained. "You don't understand what you're doing, what this is gonna—"
"Oh, I understand perfectly," you interrupted. "I've been waiting for this all day, Rick. For so damn long. Don't hold back on me now."
Before he could protest, you were gripping his shoulders even harder. With one slow motion, you lifted yourself, feeling every inch of his cock slide out of your pussy, only to drop back down hard, taking him to the hilt again before starting to bounce up and down.
Rick cursed, the sound ripping from his throat as his head fell back, his eyes squeezing shut. His control cracked instantly, both his hands now holding on to your ass, gripping you like a lifeline as you were the one to set a punishing rhythm this time. You rode him with everything you had, grinding down on him as you bounced, the muscles of your thighs burning with the effort but your need driving you harder.
Each thrust drove him deeper, the head of his cock brushing against your G-spot that made you shudder and clench around him, tearing more broken curses from his lips.
"Goddamn it," he growled, his voice shaking. "You're gonna—fuck—you're gonna make me—"
"That's the idea," you gasped, your nails raking down his shoulders and back. "Don't fight it, Rick. Let go."
His eyes snapped open, full of desperate need that sent a thrill through you. He was close, so close to the edge, and you wanted to push him over. You kept riding him, harder, faster, until his hands trembled against your ass, his breathing turning into whimpering, uneven moans.
And then, just as he tensed, his body going rigid beneath you, you stopped.
Rick's eyes flew open in shock, his hips jerking up instinctively as he chased the orgasm you'd just denied him. But you were already sliding off him with a smirk on your face.
He stood there with his pants shoved halfway down his hips, his cock hard and throbbing in your grip. His chest rose and fell like he'd just run a marathon, and yet, he still had this damn look on his face. Like he was trying to convince himself that none of this was happening. That he wasn't about to let you do this.
He'd already failed. Miserably.
"Rick…" You whispered, your voice teasing him on purpose, lips kissing the tip of his leaking cock as you looked up at him. Your fingers tightened their hold while sliding up his shaft, smearing the pre-cum around the tip.
He swallowed hard, his Adam's apple bobbing. For a second, his eyes looked out into the distance, scanning the open fields and the rest of the farm beyond the chicken coop. Guilt was seen on his face, written all over it, his jaw clenching.
But then his gaze dropped back to you, to your lips. To where you knelt in the dirt, the sundress bunched around your thighs, one hand holding his throbbing cock, and he knew there wasn't a single thing in the world that could stop him from wanting this right now.
"But… this isn't right," he still rasped, and his body betrayed him, a bead of pre-cum dripping down as you dragged your thumb along his tip again.
"Sure," you mumbled, leaning in to let your tongue lick across the head of his cock. He hissed through his teeth, his hands twitching at his sides like he wanted to pull you back but couldn't. "Because standing here with your dick in my hand after fucking me is real loyal of you, huh?"
Rick remembered Atlanta, finding Lori and Carl alive, the sheer relief that had made him feel like everything was about to feel right in the world again. But that feeling had disappeared quickly, hadn't it?
He hadn't forgotten the way Shane had acted—shocked, possessive, protective, too close to Carl and his wife. And Lori? Somewhat distant and confused. He wasn't stupid. He could see it. Feel it. Something had been broken long before he ever came back.
And now here you were. Young, bold, shameless. A part of him wanted to shove you away, to walk the hell back to the farmhouse, and pretend this never happened.
But you looked up at him like he was the last man on Earth. Like he was everything. And that hunger in your eyes—he hadn't felt wanted and desired like that in years. Maybe ever.
You leaned in again, pressing your tongue flat against the underside of his cock, dragging it up slowly, savoring every inch of him like he was only yours to take. Rick groaned, his hand snapping out to grab the back of your head.
"Fuck—don't stop," he breathed, his voice cracking.
You wrapped your lips around his cock, taking him in deep, slow at first, letting him feel the wet heat of your mouth. His hips bucked involuntarily, his shaft pushing deeper, hitting the back of your throat.
But when you raised your hand to grip him tighter again, Rick growled, grabbing your wrist and pulling it away. "Don't," he said quietly, shaking his head.
Instead, he gripped himself, holding his cock steady as he pressed the tip against your lips, smearing pre-cum across them. "Open," he ordered.
You did, letting your lips part wide, your tongue sliding out to meet him. Rick groaned again, his head falling back for a moment as he guided his cock into your mouth, pushing in deeper this time, fucking into your mouth slowly.
"Shit," he hissed through his teeth, his free hand still tangling in your hair as he held you still. "You—shit—you feel so goddamn good."
Your hands rested on his thighs now, nails digging in as you let him set the pace. It was messy, wet, sloppy. Spit dripped from the corners of your mouth, sliding down your chin as he thrust shallowly, just enough to keep himself right on the edge.
Rick couldn't think. Couldn't breathe. Couldn't stop.
All he could see was you—on your knees, looking up at him with those innocent eyes, lips stretched around his cock, taking him like you were made for it. And it felt so good it was almost unbearable.
"God, what the hell am I doing…" He groaned quietly, his hips trembling. But he didn't stop. He couldn't. Not when you hollowed your cheeks, sucking him deeper, harder, your tongue working over him like you wanted to suck him empty.
His grip on your hair tightened, his cock twitching in your mouth as he fought to keep control. But when you moaned around him, the vibration shooting straight through him, he lost it.
Rick pulled back suddenly, his cock slipping from your mouth with a wet pop. You looked up at him, lips shiny, cheeks all red and flushed, as he stroked himself, his hand wet with your spit.
"You're gonna make me come," he groaned, his eyes locked on your lips.
He pressed the tip of his cock to your lips again, smearing the pre-cum across them, down your chin, his strokes turning faster and rougher. You opened your mouth, trying to take him back in, but Rick held you still, teasing himself against your lips, the head of his cock nudging against your tongue.
And then he came.
A loud moan escaped his throat as his cum shot all across your lips, so warm and thick. You stuck your tongue out, catching what you could, swallowing it greedily as he smeared the rest across your lips with the tip of his cock.
Rick was shaking, his body trembling as he pumped himself through it, every bit of tension leaving him as he watched you lick your lips clean, swallowing every drop.
He stood there, chest heaving, staring down at you like he couldn't believe what he'd just done.
"Shit," he whispered, running a hand through his sweaty hair.
You stood up slowly, brushing the dirt off your knees and adjusting the sundress. Rick's eyes followed your every move, staying on your lips, your throat, and the curve of your breasts. He looked like a man torn in two, his guilt battling with his loyalty.
"This… can't happen again," he said, finally breaking the silence. "Shouldn't."
You smirked, stepping closer, your hand moving along his chest, fingers toying with the open collar of his shirt before dropping to the waistband of his pants. The belt still hung loose, his zipper still undone, and you tugged on the leather lightly.
"Whatever you say, Sheriff Grimes."
Rick sucked in a quick breath as you leaned in, your lips kissing his cheek lightly. And then, just like that, you pulled back and walked away.
The sundress moved and swayed in the wind with every step, the warm summer breeze lifting it just enough to reveal your naked ass once more.
Rick stood there for a long moment, his chest still heaving, his mind a mess of want and guilt and so many more feelings he couldn't even name.
He reached down, adjusting himself with a shaky hand, tucking his cock back into his pants. The belt slipped from his fingers once before he managed to buckle it, fumbling with the leather as his legs threatened to give out again, not yet closing the zipper. Finally, he leaned back against the chicken coop, dragging his hands over his face.
What the hell had he just done?
His throat was dry, his whole body still shaking with the feeling of your touch. He'd always thought of himself as a good man, hadn't he? A loyal husband. A good father.
But standing there, with his pants still half-open and the taste of sin on his lips, he didn't feel like either.
As soon as Rick was about to leave, a sudden movement caught his eye, and his stomach dropped, twisting itself into a tight knot that made him want to vomit on the spot.
Shane.
The other man was walking back toward the tents, Andrea at his side and stumbling slightly behind him. Shane looked casual like he didn't have a care in the world, but as he looked around to scan the surroundings for any danger, his eyes immediately stayed on Rick.
For a second, they just stared at each other.
He felt exposed, uncomfortable, like Shane could see everything—the guilt written all over his face, the smell of sex still clinging to his skin and his clothes.
And then Shane's head moved, his eyes following Rick's line of sight.
You.
You were halfway back with walking to the tents now, the sundress fluttering in the breeze again, the curve of your bare ass showing itself for another second. Shane tilted his head, his expression unreadable, his mouth twitching like he was holding back a loud laugh.
Rick saw it, though. Right there, on Shane's face. Amusement? Judgment? Maybe a little of both.
By now, Rick felt like he was suffocating under the weight of it all—Lori, Carl, you, Shane. Everything.
Because Shane was no saint. He knew that. It was like you had said before; he knew it for some time now. His best friend had slept with Lori, and maybe even wanted to take his place. But right now? Rick wasn't sure he was any better than him.
Rick pushed himself off the chicken coop, his boots kicking the dirt as he turned toward the farmhouse. He didn't say a word as he passed Shane, didn't even look at him.
But he could feel Shane's eyes on him, the smirk burning into the back of his skull like a brand.
And as Rick walked back toward the tent where Lori was sleeping with Carl at her side, his fists clenched and his heart pounding, and his mouth tasted dry—no, worse—like you.
It tasted like sin—devouring him whole.
ᴀᴜᴛʜᴏʀ's ɴᴏᴛᴇ: I wrote this a bit quicker than usual. I know, I know, I’m a slow writer, sorry about that! Please bear with me. I tried my best to clean up any repetition or grammar mistakes, and since this is my first Rick Grimes oneshot in a while, I’m honestly a little nervous to even share it. I still feel like there might be some missing details or areas that could’ve been expanded more, but I hope you still enjoyed it.

Always Prey But Never A Bird

“Miss Wayne, any comments about your disappearance?”
“Miss Wayne, where have you been for the last four years?”
“Miss Wayne, does your father, Bruce Wayne, approve of your engagement to Gabriel Christel?”
“Who will you be wearing at your wedding?”
“Miss Wayne, will you family be invited to your wedding?”
“Miss Wayne…”
“Miss Wayne…”
“Miss Wayne!”
A sudden flash of a camera made you flinch and stumble backwards, an environment you had once lived in and you were now being thrown back into.
You had returned to the penthouse after you woke up at Selina Kyle’s apartment, arriving just in time for breakfast with Gabriel, his parents, and a new hired wedding planner, but they did not last long because their idea of some high class celebrity wedding that felt tacky and just for show, all about guest lists and who is going to be wearing what. They tried to push back on your wants, you two were very high profile people and your wedding should match, but even that was breaking point for Gabriel, he snapped at the wedding planner, telling them to leave, or rather yelling at them to leave.
So now you had just been dropped off at Gabriel's mother's boutique for some sort of surprise after you and Gabriel did some of your own wedding planning after breakfast. You just did not expect the swarm of gossip column reporters and paparazzi, even if you grew up with it you were no longer used to it, you felt like an absolute deer in the headlights.
“Excuse me, but Miss Wayne is taking no questions at this time.” Like she was your hero, the doors to the famous fashion’s designer boutique opened up and a hand came to rest upon your shoulder, like your guardian angel Mrs. Christel came to your rescue, pulling you away from the press and back towards her fashion house. “Please save all questions for a later date when Miss Wayne is ready for a proper interview.”
You heard their shouts of protest as you were tugged back into her building, leaving the press stuck outside, still shouting their questions. You breathed a sigh of relief as you watched the doors close behind you as you walked deeper into the designer’s gallery, your future mother in law interlocking your arm with hers.
“Reporters and paparazzi, they are like rats or cockroaches.” She sighed. Her hand squeezes around your arm. “Even when you think you have stomped them out and think they are dead, they always come back, desperate for another taste.”
“I… I don’t know about all of that.” You muttered, feeling yourself shrink into yourself. “A-anyway, what is the surprise?”
“It is not my surprise, I just helped plan, closing the doors of my humble boutique to the public for a few hours.” Humble was not the exact words you were looking for, this was a high end fashion boutique, the most esteemed in the city, perhaps practically in all of the East Coast, the place had marble flooring and crystal chandeliers. She led you into one of the departments of the boutique, the wedding dress department which was only open to appointments and there you saw two very familiar ladies.
“M-mom! Selina!” You yelled out, running over to the woman sitting on one of the white velvet sofas along with Selina, glasses of champagne in both of their hands, though your mother passed hers over to Selina as you came running into her arms, nearly knocking her over and off the couch she sat on and the sound of hers and your laughter filled the empty designer boutique.
“Miss Kyle contacted me earlier this morning before breakfast and asked if I could set this up.” Your future mother in law smiled, walking back to the dress racks, seemingly where she had already picked a few dresses out, along with your mother and Selina no doubt before you got here. “But you Mrs. Wayne, I have not seen you in ages, truly a sight for sore eyes, but how ever did Miss Kyle get you out of that manor your husband owns?”
“Trust me when I say you don’t want to know.” Your mother replied as you scooted over to sit next to her on the sofa she sat on. You certainly knew what that meant when she said that, Selina snuck her out, probably when everyone in the manor was still asleep. “Let’s just say my husband will not be happy when he realizes I am gone.”
You definitely knew now that Selina snuck her out.
“Well it is a shame your husband and other children do not approve of the union of our daughter and son, it would be nice to have Bruce Wayne’s blessing, then perhaps we could finally get along.” Your fiancé’s mother sighed, taking back the dresses that were already picked out and hanging them up in the dressing room which was connected to this little lounge you all found yourself in. “Oh I remember that time where your little Damian got all up in knots over your daughter kissing my son, that was sure to be an interesting meeting with the principal.”
“Ah yes… my apologies, that was an unfortunate chain of events, my stepson has always been protective over my little girl, she is his little sister and his blood sister no less.” Your mother’s hand trailed down to your own, giving it a soft squeeze. “Besides Damian has always had his anger issues and over protective tendencies, the ladder is something he very much inherited from his father I believe.”
“That reminds me, who is Damian’s mother? You are his stepmother so it is not you and he is not adopted like the rest.” Your future mother in law leaned against the door of the dressing room, a smirk playing at the corners of her lips. “Don’t tell me the Brucie Wayne had an affair with another woman while he was with you during your original engagement to him.”
“No… Damian was something… actually you really do not want to know that one.”
______________________
“Hmm, I don’t know, I quite liked the lace one.”
“Yes, but that one is a very select taste, maybe we stick with the silk.”
“I think the plunging neckline looked quite pretty on you, that way you can wear a statement necklace.”
You have lost count of all the dresses you have tried on for the three older women, they were probably having more fun out of this than you were at this point, having you dress up like a doll.
“I need a break.” You sighed dramatically as you leaned yourself up against the open dressing room door, glancing back at the older women in the room. “How many more dresses are there?”
“Well I have about a dozen dresses a designer friend of mine sent me from their boutique in Barcelona.” Your future mother in law commented which made you groan loudly and Gabriel’s mother glanced at your mother and she smiled, reaching for a white paper bag that is reminiscent of the ones you would get with a purchase from a designer store. “But I suppose there is just one more for today.”
“What is it?”
“This was my mother’s wedding dress and her mother’s wedding dress. I am the one who didn’t wear it because it is so important to our family and I didn’t feel like I deserved to wear it on my wedding day, but maybe you would like to wear it.” She walked towards you, handing you the bag with the dress inside.
“Thank you, mom.” You smiled at her, swallowing down any crying so as to not make a scene and ruin the happy moment you all were having. You let her push you back into the dressing room and close the door once you were inside.
You set the bag down on the small bench in the dressing room and you pulled out the dress from the bag and for how old it is the dress was in perfect condition. It was an older style, the top was covered in lace that created a transparent turtleneck with long sleeves and the underdress made up charmeuse with a sweetheart neckline and tulle puffing out the skirt a little bit, sort of a toned down version of a Victorian style wedding dress. You had seen photos of your grandmother and your great grandmother wearing this dress before, but your mother never wanted to, her marriage did not deserve such a privilege in her own eyes.
You slipped on your mother’s family’s heirloom dress pull the sleeves over your arms and the lace was soft, not itchy like you imagined, but when you tried to reach to the back and button it up since it had no zipper you could not quite reach them or see them. You sighed and opened the dressing room door, peaking your head to look at your mom. “Hey mom, could you help me button up the back? I can’t quite reach the buttons on it.”
“Yes, of course, my sweetness.” She replied to your request, standing up from where she sat next to Selina and your future mother in all, walking into the dressing room with you and closing the door behind her. She pulled your hair over your shoulder before her hands began to make quick work of buttoning up the back of your dress, her nimble and quick fingers doing her best to get a hold of the small fabric buttons. “You look so beautiful, I am so happy for you my darling little girl… I just wish I could be there, but you know…”
“I understand mama, life… life has been rough on us, especially you.” You sigh, slightly flinching as you feel her icy cold, freezing hand brush up against your bare skin over your spine. “But at least we have this, right?”
“…right.” She sighed, her face turning sorrowful before you watched her form a bittersweet smile across her lips. “You are going to make the most beautiful bride, I just know it, and I see it as well in this moment now.”
“I love you mom.”
“I love you more, my little bug.”
Eventually your mother finished and opened the dressing room door and you were entirely prepared for the doting comments from Selina and your future mother in law but instead you got assaulted with a mesh of black fabric being thrown right at your face. You caught the dress, a black wedding dress for those who were more their style.
“Wear that one, it fits.” Your body tensed up as you heard an all too familiar voice, Damian. Your eyes shot up to look at your older brother across the room and walking towards you and his current state of anger was clear. Selina was just sitting there on the velvet sofa, sighing and shaking her head in clear disappointment, meanwhile your future mother in law was busy taking out her phone and calling up her security, all while wondering how he even got past them and into her boutique.
“It’s my wedding, not my funeral, Damian.” You snap back at him, settting the black wedding dress down on the white velvet sofa next to Selina as Damian grabbed your mother by her wrist and began dragging her out of the room, but not before he looked back at you, a glare like daggers in his eyes.
“It might as well be.”
There was a silent gasp that escaped your lips as he spoke those words, your lips agape in shock at his hurtful words and your brow furrowed as he turned away from you, pulling your mother out, you can only imagine the scolding she is going to get on the ride back to the manor and the scolding she will get back at the manor as well.
You broke…
You fell to your knees crying…
Your heart broke, being hurt by a person you always told yourself you hated.
______________________
You left the boutique shortly after your mother was taking away by Damian, Selina left with you but you decided to tell her that you were walking home, well the penthouse, since the paparazzi was long gone by now. In actuality you were not going back to the manor, you lied to Selina.
You stepped into a back alley, it was about a block away from the boutique and three blocks away from the building the penthouse was in on the top floor. Your heart pounded in your chest as you unzipped your white Italian leather purse, a designer brand which was a gift from your future father in law, and you pulled out that beautiful silk scarf you had been gifted by Talia Al Ghul. Your hands were shaking as you wrapped it around your neck, your breathing growing unsteady.
You closed your eyes as if by clockwork you felt two other presences in the ally way, barely hearing the footsteps of the two members of the League of Assassins, looks like they have been following you.
“Just… don’t leave any visible bruises please, I can’t explain them to my in-laws.”
“My lady, if we did that we would be a good as dead.”
That was the last thing you heard before you felt a swift finger press against a pressure point on your neck and your body grew rigid, numb. You could of sworn you felt something being pressed against your lips and nose but you could not quite process that or anything, everything just felt numb…
Being kidnapped was just like falling asleep.
______________________
Your body felt as if it was as heavy as metal as you woke up from your drug induced sleep, you opened your eyes but everything was blurry, you still could not feel anything in your body, you could barely hear anything either, it was as if your ears were stuffed with cotton.
Your fingers felt ice cold, it was like they had been soaking in ice water from the Arctic Ocean. The feeling of a freezing cold like numbness made you panic for a moment, almost thinking your fingers would fall off or maybe your entire hands would.
Your head had a roaring headache, the type you could get after falling from a building and getting a severe concussion, but that was quickly fading away as you felt hands push you to sit up, hands maneuvering you as if you were a porcelain doll or a puppet or marionette.
Being moved around made you painfully aware of the stiffness in your spine, as if a metal rod ran through it, unable to move it probably.
You heard voices, but they were muffled and you could not quite hear what they were saying nor process their moving figures, just blurs. There was someone sitting in front of you, someone you could think was man by the outline of his build. The other was a woman sitting next to you, the one making you sit up, she was saying something to you, something you could not quite process and you felt her warm hand on your cheek, her thumb running circles on your cheek, it was something soothing from what you could process. You felt the woman’s free hand reach for something on a table, a cup, it was warm, if you were less lucid you may have mistaken it for tea, but you could smell it, it was sharp and pungent, the very scent of the hot liquid snapping your senses back into place, your control over taste, touch, sight, hearing, all flooding back to you thanks to your sense of smell.
You found yourself coughing, choking on your saliva due to the sudden shock, and you felt the woman’s hand on your back running soothing circles as her other had stroked your cheek. You could barley hear your own heartbeat, you could hear your own heavy breathing an comments, the sudden sensory overload making your body want to vomit but your stomach was already empty at the moment.
“Shh… just breathe, my dearest.” Your eyes snapped open wide at the sound of a familiar and feminine voice, your head turned to the side as your body was still hunched over from your coughing, and you looked up to see a familiar woman, albeit dressed far more comfortably than the sort of thing she wore during the times you encountered her in the nights of Gotham. You felt her hand on your cheek pinch slightly, it was affection you think, as she smiled down at you. “How are you feeling, dearest?”
“F-fine…” You cleared your throat as you forced yourself to sit up straight again. Your body felt tense as you felt another set of eyes upon you from across where you and Talia sat next to each other.
“That is good, after all it has been far too long.” You felt fear itself course through your very veins as you heard the man’s voice who sat across from you and his own daughter. You kept yourself from shaking as you turned your head to look him in the eyes, his bright green eyes sending intense shivers down your spine. You had only met him once or twice before, and neither time could be described as exactly peaceful, both were times you were dragged along by Damian after you were caught after you snuck out of the manor to go to parties or your friend’s houses in high school and you had gotten caught up in his family drama on your way home all while trying to get away from your own.
The far older man smiled at you, a smile you would have placed as a kid or affectionate if you did not know who this was, and knowing who this man was just made you want to shrink into yourself and pretend this was not happening.
“We have much to discuss, my dear.”
You sat across, trapped in a room with Ra’s Al Ghul.

"Hold this for me. Thanks."
You handed Damian a baby goat before walking away as if nothing had happened. You gave him a light pat on the shoulder as you passed him and a kind smile.
Damian blinked at the goat in his arm before turning back to your retreating figure. Where did you get the goat, and why are you giving it to him? He's an animal lover, true, but unless you have a secret animal farm, what happened? How did you acquire a baby goat? Did you steal it? Assuming you did steal it, why would you steal a goat? What is your motive? To say you kidnapped a kid?
He had only questions and no answers. You were already next to your boyfriend, Dick, so it would be impossible for him to separate you from him for answers. Neither of you ventures far without the other lagging behind. You move as one unit. There would be no answers to his questions unless he can corner you strategically.
He looked at the goat in his arms and decided with a sigh that he was already in love with the innocent doe eyes looking at him. Fine. Dump your kid on him. Maybe you saved it from an abusive farm. He would like to pretend that this is a rescue case and not a kidnapping.
Regardless of how you got it, he walked up to Bruce with the baby goat in his arms. He awkwardly cleared his throat, but Bruce didn't turn around immediately, so he said stiffly,
"Father."
Bruce was on the Batcomputer, but he turned around in his chair to face Damian. The only surprise Bruce showed was slightly raised eyebrows. He sighed softly and petted the goat.
"What do you want to name it?"
He didn't bother asking why he had a goat or what led to him gaining a goat (Bruce knows for a fact he didn't buy that goat and none of the Supers have reported any missing livestock yet). He had long since become used to Damian and his animal loving heart.
Damian had not thought of a name. He glanced back at you. What would you name the goat? Knowing you, you'd probably name it something stupid like Billy, thinking you're funny to name it Billy Goat. It's not even a billy goat. It's a pygmy goat. He thought about it before saying,
"...Noel."
Bruced nodded his approval before turning back to the computer. He was focused on a case. He said,
"Put Noel in with Batcow."
Damian walked away without another word. He held the goat like it was his child. He cradled it as it falls asleep in his arms. How is he going to leave the cave if he doesn't have any hands to do anything besides hold Noel? He'll find out.
Nobody questioned why he now has a baby goat. They merely petted the goat as he passed, but you gave him a grin. You knew he'd like the goat.
He wanted to be mad at you, but he found that he couldn't. He loved Noel already. He held the kid closer to his chest and wrapped it in his Robin cape.
He has no idea how to raise goats, but he will have to figure it out. You just gave him an assignment to research. How does someone raise goats? Will he have to get another one? Farm animals are normally social animals. Would Batcow count as a companion for his new goat? He had no idea, but he realistically should have gotten Batcow a friend already. Titus isn't with her all the time, and she must get lonely. Maybe he'll ask Jon for tips if he can't figure out everything.
He sighed as he looked at the adorable goat in his arms. He hates how much thought was put behind gifting him a goat despite the seemingly randomness of it all.
Damian likes you a lot. However, much to his misfortune, you are not done gifting him thoughtful presents. He has no idea how to handle these thoughtful gifts. He always ends up running away.
He'll eventually learn how to cope with being surrounded by your loving gestures, but for now, he's embarrassed how much you know about him. You know his passions, and you seem to know what's going on in his life.
Every off-handed comment mentioned in passing, you found a way to gift the family something they never thought about buying. Jason was given a therapy dog for his trauma and loneliness, Tim was given a graphic card when he was mentioning he wanted to get into gaming more, Bruce has new upgrades in the Batmobile (which you show him how to use and what everything does), and Dick has you. Kind, compassionate, ever giving you.
You laughed at Dick's side and gave him a quick kiss. You loved this family, and they quickly grew to love you. You fit right into the wacky group of heroes.
Jason pretended to hate seeing the adorable couple, but his romantic heart beats for couples happily in love, even if they are disgustingly so such as Dick and you.
His dog also loved the duo, but the massive dog remained cuddled on his lap as Jason sat on the couch. For some reason, his Newfoundland dog decided she's a lapdog. He was lucky he was as large as the dog, or he'd be drowning in dog fur.
Tim, truthfully, did not care one bit. He appreciated all your knowledge about him, even if it was slightly creepy. How did you know he was missing his favourite sweater? Where did you get the sweater? He doesn't even remember where he got the original. Part of him assumed it was Connor's sweater all along that happened to get mixed in with his stuff.
How did you know Tim has always wanted a specific ring from his father's collection that he was eventually buried wearing? Is this how people feel when Tim "researches" them? You knew too much about him. He can't hide anything no matter how hard he tries. You seem to know everything.
You wrapped your arms around Dick with a grin. You loved this man more than you loved air. He knew it, his siblings knew it, Bruce knew it, and the public knew it. Neither of you was subtle about your relationship, but that's just how your relationship works. You feel like two kids in love.
He leans in and whispers,
"I know you gave that goat to Damian."
You beamed. You weren't trying to be sneaky in the slightest. You loved seeing Damian happy and unguarded. His expression softens, and a small smile spreads across his face. In those short moments, you like to pretend that is default Damian. The soft, kind-hearted kid with so much love to give.
"He will love that goat. I can already imagine the miniature ranch he's slowly gaining. Do you think I should get him a horse next?"
Dick laughed. He loved that your brain was already thinking of the next gift to give his littlest brother.
"How are you going to sneak a horse into the house, cutiepie?"
You smirked. You were already plotting. He narrowed his eyes playfully. What is going on in your brain?
"I don't have to go through the house. I can use the Batcave. All five of you would rush at the triggered alarm."
He shook his head with a smile. You and your little schemes. That would be one way to make an entrance.
"Where are you going to get a horse?"
He didn't like the excited gleam in your eyes. You had a connection somehow. Did Jon tell you where they got their horses? He'll never know. You keep your connections to yourself.
"I know a girl."
You didn't elaborate further despite Dick's pestering, so eventually, he let it go. He won't be surprised if Damian finds a horse in his room after patrol.

The thing with the dog. Both Babe and Rak assumed that their dad would be against it, and he surprised them both by allowing it. Dom didn't even need to try that hard to convince him. It was just something he knew would make his kids happy and Dom had a plan and so it was allowed.
Rak is terrified to come out to his parents. He is terrified they won't approve of Fah. And Rak's family and their opinions mean a lot to him so he does not know what he would do if he is faced with them not approving of Fah. But we already know that Rak's assumptions about his family and what they will approve of are not necessarily true. His dad proved that at the beginning of the episode.
Plus we have the rest of the show to give us context for that family and how loving and supportive they are. Are they a bit overprotective of Rak? Yes. But Babe is the most protective and she is fine with it. I think it might surprise his family, especially if they knew about his ex, but I think they will see how worried he is and be very, very quick to assure him that he is loved no matter what and all they want for him is happiness. And if that happiness is Fah, then they love Fah too.
Then the mothers can get together to brag about each other's sons. Fah's mom will gush about Rak and Rak's mom will gush about Fah and all will be good and right in the world.
#your sky#your sky the series#your sky series#i mean i know literally the only person worried about rak's family#is rak. literally not a single other character#nor the audience#is worried in the slightest that rak's family won't be supportive of him and fah

Hard To Find
Natasha Romanoff x Reader
Word Count: 1.6k
A/N: This is from a ridiculous prompt from a lovely friend. It uses a lovely prompt from @taylorswiftmicrofic for the 14th of January, which is 'psycho'.
.
You received a letter. It was simple, if a little formal. It had one request.
You showed up obediently at the Shawarma place the very next day. Your heart in your mouth at the thought of seeing her. Two men walked in at the same time as you. You noticed the same letter clutched in the hand of the taller one. It made you nervous.
You looked back down at the name signed on your letter. It steadied you. You would go anywhere for Natasha. You always would. If she wanted you. You’d be there.
The dimly lit establishment was empty. Only a young, blonde woman sat inside at one of the central tables.
The man to your right smiled as he looked around.
‘Wow.’ He said softly. ‘This place takes me back.’
The other man was too busy staring at the blonde woman.
‘She found you.’ He muttered at last in a tight voice. ‘I told her it was psycho to go back there. But she did.’
The woman nodded simply. She seemed young, maybe in her mid-twenties. She had an unnerving composure, a perfectly controlled casualness.
She reminded you of Natasha. Not in looks. But in the way she held herself. Not Natasha’s daughter. But definitely Natasha’s someone.
Her long blonde braid was intricate and beautiful. It ached with the familiarity of someone who wasn’t here.
‘I know you were all expecting my sister.’ The woman said calmly. ‘She’s still on the run.’
Her eyes flickered between the men on either side of you. They shifted uncomfortably.
‘If she doesn’t want to be found -’ The bearded man started uncomfortably.
The blonde woman rolled her eyes. Her petulance was undermined as she played nervously with the rings that decorated her fingers.
‘Of course, she wants to be found. Everyone wants to be found.’
The woman’s gaze turned to you. You felt the intensity behind her eyes. You met it readily.
‘Just by the right people.’ The woman finished softly, her stare continuing to pierce you. ‘I’m Yelena.’ She introduced herself at last.
You cleared your throat and answered with your own name.
Steve Rogers introduced himself and then Clint Barton did. You only nodded as you processed their names. It felt a lifetime ago when she’d told you about them.
You remembered Natasha, cross-legged on your living room floor. Eating take out chinese food and doing impressions of the other Avengers. The men she laughed at so easily that you knew she must love them,
‘You’re the closest thing she has to family.’ Yelena echoed, almost accusingly. ‘You are the people she loves the most.’ She paused and gave a dangerous smile. ‘Apart from me of course.’
‘I’m retired.’ Clint was the first to speak. His shoulders hung with a heavy kind of fatigue. A guilt that comes from inaction. ‘I can’t find her now. It would compromise my family. I thought Tash-’
Yelena cut him off.
‘Steve?’
You turned too, to look at the man on your right. You wondered how he’d managed to sneak successfully into the center of New York city. His name was on all the wanted lists right next to Natasha’s. And, now that you were looking at him, he was not the kind of man who could go unnoticed in a crowd.
Steve smiled with inherent politeness.
‘I’ve found a safe place that might work.’ He offered carefully. ‘I’m staying there with some friends now. Natasha would be more than welcome -’
This time it was you who cut him off.
‘Why isn’t she already there then?’ You felt yourself bite out. A thousand sleepless nights worrying about Natasha suddenly rearing up angrily. ‘If you’ve found a safe place to hide with your friends. Why isn’t she already there?’
Yelena hummed an approving noise and your focus turned back to her. She nodded at you in encouragement.
You felt a longing surge up inside you. The impossible one. The one you rarely let yourself feel.
‘Of course.’ You choked out. ‘Of course. I’d love to see her. But. After everything that happened between us. I don’t think she’d ever want to see me again.
Your confession rang in the air and you felt the urge to cringe from it. The things that you couldn’t undo.
‘Natasha told me, don't worry. Let me worry about that.’ Yelena assured you, standing up from the table and stretching out her arms leisurely.
‘You two can go.’ She dismissed the men off-handedly, ignoring them with obvious disgust.
Yelena offered you her hand to shake. You took it readily. You realised abstractly that this all might be a trap. There were a million and one variables that you hadn’t considered.
You had a life. Not a very interesting one, admittedly. But you had a job, and a cramped apartment and two annoying roommates.
You had a heart that was finally almost ready to heal.
The restaurant door slammed shut behind Clint and Steve. You flinched, remembering the echo of another time.
After a moment, Yelena reached under the collar of her shirt. She pulled out the silver arrow charm on her necklace, letting it rest on full display again.
You stared at it for a long moment. You realised the answer was simple. You loved Natasha.
You were nothing like an Avenger. You knew nothing about survival. You knew her smile in the mornings. You knew the weight of her head on your shoulder. You knew the touch of her lips on your skin.
Yelena watched the expression on your face. She patted you on the shoulder.
‘Come on. You look like you need an adventure.’ She encouraged simply as she walked you to the back door.
Together, you climbed the rickety fire escape upwards.
When you reached the roof, Yelena made a grand gesture towards the quinjet that she’d clearly landed there earlier.
‘I’m glad that didn’t take long.’ She muttered as she unlocked the jet and welcomed you aboard. ‘I could not figure out the right button to make it invisible.’
You waited nervously in the middle of the jet as Yelena programmed in a flight path. You suddenly felt very out of control.
Once you were in the air, Yelena turned back to you. She grabbed your hand and pulled you down with her as she sat cross-legged on the hard ground.
‘So, tell me what happened with you and my sister.’ She directed calmly.
You promptly exploded. You jumped immediately back to your feet.
‘You don’t actually know?!’ You hissed, rubbing your hand through your hair as you started to pace the small room.
Yelena waved her hand casually in the air. ‘Not specifics. Just that it didn’t work out.’
‘Oh my god.’ You felt yourself start to hyperventilate. Your hand covered your chest. ‘We need to turn this jet around. Oh my god.’
Yelena hopped back to her feet, grumbling a little about assassins having stiff joints. She grabbed your arms and forced your attention back to her.
‘Calm down.’ She ordered.
You noticed abruptly that she was smaller than Natasha. You wondered vaguely how it was possible for her to be even scarier.
‘It can’t be that bad.’ Yelena determined in a calming voice. ‘It really can’t. Just tell me what happened.’
‘We had a fight.’ You blurted out suddenly. Yelena’s grip loosened and she nodded for you to continue. ‘It was my fault. I told her she wasn’t letting herself be happy. Always putting other people first. Never trusting the people who cared about her.’
You gulped, feeling the burn of threatening tears.
‘She, uh-. She left and it was bad. I thought we’d broken up. I was sure we had.’
You felt Yelena tense in front of you.
‘It had been nearly a month of radio silence.’ You whispered now. ‘And then Natasha showed up on my doorstep unannounced. She’d been called out on an undercover mission. That's why she hadn't answered. She hadn’t been ignoring me.’
You brushed a tear from your cheek. Loathing yourself as you repeated the story.
‘I was halfway through getting ready for a date when I answered the door. She took one look at me and she just knew.’
Yelena stared at you for a long moment. Her brow furrowed as she lost herself in thought.
‘Okay.’ She said at last. ‘You’re right. Natasha might kill us both.’
.
The quinjet landed in a small clearing in the middle of the Norwegian forest. Yelena hurried you out and turned you in the direction of a lone trailer in the near distance. She patted you on the back and it didn’t reassure you.
You looked back to Yelena, trapped between the longing and the fear.
Yelena’s gaze turned sad. She gave you a small shrug.
‘You’ve got to try.’ She told you.
You nodded, turning back to look at the trailer. She was right.
.
You knocked on the trailer door. You were shaking.
There was a noise inside the trailer and then silence.
After a moment, the door opened. Natasha Romanoff stood there, a gun in hand. Her long red hair framed her face messily. Her dark, oversized hoodie made her look smaller than you remembered.
You watched her mouth fall open.
You felt the longing inside you surge into its own creature. You tried to smile.
‘Hi -’ You started nervously.
Natasha interrupted you with a sudden hug. You staggered slightly at the force of it. Her arms wrapped around you tightly. You swallowed the choking realisation that you were wanted.
Abruptly she pulled back. Her green eyes scanned yours worriedly. Her hand cupped your face, desperately tentative.
‘Are you real?’
‘Yes.’ You felt the tears running down your cheeks. ‘And I’m so glad you’re safe.’
Natasha started crying too. She reached out shakily to find one of your hands. You watched her press her lips to your knuckles. You felt the warm breath on your skin as she found the courage to speak.
‘I thought you'd moved on. That day, when I came back.’ Natasha whispered at last. ‘I don’t. I never. I never wanted to get in the way.’
The fragments of your barely glued together heart fell apart again.
You leaned forward and kissed Natasha carefully. Slow and lingering, it felt like coming home.
You let the aching longing become what it had always been. You pressed your forehead against Natasha’s. You listened to the sound of her shallow breaths. She squeezed your hand tightly.
‘Natasha, you can't be in the way.’ You promised desperately. ‘You're everything I wanted to find.’

Cackling rn, Y'all are so so great <3
EHHEHEHEHE!!!! Ancha I figured you'd enjoy the tragic siblings combo here!! And, like I figured, you absolutely blew this reply out of the water, I was sitting here reading it giggling like a madman haha! I'll get into it now!
YEs! Nine being the original one that was supposed to be perfect, to be molded and shaped, I thought it aligned well with the Xtale/Underverse storyline (X-Gaster attempts to have a timeline and uses one character as his special little blorbo basically to try and make the world perfect, and Papyrus' number is IX, implying that X-Gaster tried with him first, before scrapping that timeline and going with Sans instead, hense his X! So, Making Nine the older sibling makes that make a bit more sense, and then some fudging for realistic plot goals + setting stuff lol!), but also explained a lot into why Cross is how he is, obediant and always looking for approval and having a hard time making his own choices! Okay hang on, I'm getting ahead of myself-
Yep, super hard decision, but the one he thought was best. he was young, didn't have any way to protect Ten, not really, so he did what he could to mitigate the damage. Nine was sure X-Gaster wouldn't just abandon all the work he's already put into him, that he was sunk cost fallacied into focusing on him. But then. Well. Ten wanted attention from someone so desperately that X-Gaster decided to fill that role and realized Ten was basically play-doh to mould in his hands at a whim. Changed prey!
Nine DEFINITELY had those moments. Thinking about how Ten was being dumb, blind to the truth. And absolutely the jealousy and simmering frustration. Nine had to convince himself at the start to not get attached to Ten, and that wasn't easy at all. but then Ten becomes X-Gaster's main focus. Not only does he know, then, that his time is limited if XGaster ever loses use for him, but he knows Ten will be what Nine fought so hard not to be. He knows that Ten is everything that he should've been, and wasn't. (And, yeah, he hates Ten for that for a good chunk of time, because it quickly turns into Ten's interest in Nine being the only thing keeping him alive. not another project scrapped by XGaster.)
OUGH??? Hunting him into the arms of their mutual abuser, I'm gonna sob- but yeah, no, definitely. He absolutely did that. often. (I think another note here, that comes up in his behavior later, is that Nine is able to find a support group. XTori, XUndyne, XAlphys (I'll come up w/ better names later lol-) all of these other people who were around in one way or another, people he was able to bond with like a family, who had families of their own, who taught him during, and especially *after* the coup, what a family should be. He has a chance to reflect and be vulnerable very early on. After Ten leaves, there has to be a point where he (stoic and optimistic as a front) finally breaks down and tells someone *more*. More than the basics, more than the fact that XGaster was bad. Just glimpses at first, but all the horrible things he had to do, that he did to Ten, that XGaster did to both of them. There was a reason Nine would chastize Ten when discussing with the others, but NEVER condemn him for what he'd decided to do. Was he dissappointed? Yeah, of course. Was he blaming him? No, because unlike Nine, he had no safe avenue for escape, no reference point for a different life, because Nine didn't give it to him. So, point is, SOMEONE hears, just bits of this, and is horrified. Talks through it with Nine, explains that, no, none of that was okay, and what he did *was* shitty, but makes sense. he starts to slowly work through all of this, all while Ten is already gone. And, no one suggests they go searching either. Everyone still thinks of Ten as a lost cause, despite what Nine says. because of what Nine says. So, yeah, with his support group he decides he wants to reconsile with his little brother, properly... one day.) Oh and he totally hates himself for choosing the coup over Ten, even if everyone praises him for it.
And the note about Nine being so ready to rebuild their relationship! I think this is a big old yep!! Ofc, Nine just wasn't sure how to go about it. With the chaos of helping with the aftermath and the coup and reorganizing basically a whole country, Nine didn't have time (or so he told himself) to have that discussion with Ten. So, he kinda did what made him feel at home among the coup corps. Just... left Ten with the others, asked him to be involved but didn't smother him with attention. (<- Nine, as a main focus of XGaster, appreciated the moments when he could be one of the crowd, when he wasn't helping organize or leading). This didn't help Ten, who had no direction, no one willing to talk with him. Like you said, he only grew more isolated and saw exactly how much people didn't want him there.
And for the Cross leaving bit, I've had that up in the air, so I'm really glad you put some insight into it, haha!
I love the idea of them having a talk (or multiple) talks about it! Maybe Ten did get advice from someone (Like, backhandedly. Maybe he was struggling to figure out how to help (no orders, no direction, no guidance) and when he asks someone for orders, someone says, like, "You decide what to do based on what feel's good and what doesn't. With Nine as your 'brother' you think you'd know that, purebred." Or smth snarky like that, and.) and he takes it to heart. He realizes that being around these people does NOT feel good. That trying to fit is does NOT feel good. That staying around Nine does. not. feel. good. It all hurts. not like trainings used to hurt, when Nine would beat him up in sparring, but like when he got scared when he didn't react to a command fast enough and XGaster would see. It felt like bad things were going to happen. All the time. So he tries to tell Nine, to explain how he's feeling, but Nine just doesn't get it, or insists it's and adjustment and he'll be okay, and when that doesn't work, he gets manipulative like you mentioned! Just like X-Gaster. And Ten catches it. That same sick feeling in his gut like when he used to get orders. And that's his final straw. One more talk, a week or two later to let things simmer, and it goes south again. Ten decides he's leaving. And he goes. I love the comparison you added too, where the situations are happening generational trauma style <3
(Also, sorry, almost forgot, X-Gaster is TOTALLY dead! No chances being taken over there.)
BONUS ALSO. Almost forgot, I called the kingdom Ritten. Like, a play on the word "Written" becaus of X-Gaster's 'overwrite' button! I think I'm gonna stick with that for a bit, I found it while stumbling through my Cross drabble and, tbh, you probably remembered Ancha, but I seem to always forget so maybe typing it out will help me, haha!
Ofc ofc! Night is always, in my mind, a family-driven character! He broke 10000s of years of traditions (not actual numbers lmao-) to potentionally save his twin from an unknown threat. he was ready to let his only trusted follower and his loving guardian leave if it would make him happier. he was willing to cut off a treaty with the biggest powerhouse and most stable kingdom in the known world just to protect his knight and brother. For him, he has the power and means to make rash decicions for those who are close to him. (<- This is both a character strength and flaw in my eyes. Kinda guy who would let the world burn to protect his family, if it came to that.)
Anyways! Not about him!
There were totally rumors flying around after Cross' induction ball. nine felt awful because he figured maybe his brother had settled down, found a little place for himself where no one could hurt him again. But, no, he's working for another tyrant, one in the ranks of murderers and criminals. Was that what he thought of himself? had Nine screwed up so badly that his little brother thought that was his only option? And he's definitely disappointed to not see Cross in the group that visits first. He's hesitant, and worried, but like you said, the longer Night is in power, the more Nine realizes Nightmare isn't actually bad. He's good. he's doing good things, and has something to show for it. (I think he was skeptical when they first decided to ally with him. X-Gaster had a silver-tongue, who's to say Night isn't just like him?) And he decides, for peace of mind, that yeah. maybe Cross is happy over there. and safe.
And!!!! All that Lust scene?? Yea yea yea!!!! You read my mind istg, I'm not gonna linger on it for length sake, but Lust is someone Cross feels is very down to earth. he's aware that No One he knows has really had a normal childhood, but Lust is arguably the closest. he was never a soldier, or a slave, or coerced by a church, or a doomed prince, or an isolated traveler, or a runaway. Lust was a noble kid, which made some differences, sure, but he lived among the people, and Cross needs that outlook. And Lust is so kind to him and helps him talk through it. And!!! OUGH. I love them...
And THANK YOU. I owe you my life for continuing where I left off with that interaction, because I was STRUGGLING. You came out swinging!!!
That flinch is definitely important, but!! The way Killer jumps at the opportunity to defend Cross, and give Nine a taste of his vitriol for everything he put Cross through?? OUGH!! 'This is Crossy, my fellow knight and at this point my little brother.' HELLO???? Killer making it VERY clear that Cross has a place to belong, that he's loved and cared for, and that Nine has to step it the fuck up if he wants to *earn* that title of brother back, because he has some tough competition! (And omg, yeah, the knights having their drinking nights and that's when the heartfelt stuff happens is really honestly so real and true. Only way someone could pry any admittance of actual weakness out of Cross' mouth on a normal day lol!) Oh and the Night addition!! Night watching out for him brother!! Yippeee!!!!
And Nine would totally be trying to find a way to talk with Cross. (Maybe even resulting in an awkward situation where Nine is trying *really* hard to get Cross away and. maybe. just briefly. he almost tries to guilt-trip Cross into it, the same way he used to and how X-Gaster did before him. Maybe he catches is. Maybe he doesn't. Killer tells him to buzz off back to his post or something.) and Cross is so so on point here. He wouldn't want to leave Night and Killer's sides at all. He's on high alert. All the confidence he has atp is false, and he can't help himself but to be right back in the shoes of a 16-17 y/o him, when he used a different name, and these people all looked at him like he as a traitor, some sort of dog to be taken out back and shot if he acted out. He's freaked out, and like you said! It hurts to be around Nine again! It makes him feel awful, and double awful because he's not the way Nine expected him to be. Again. like always-
Dude, do NOT be sorry, this little Dust and Cross interaction at the end?? So tasty????? Cross being open and Dust relating and being willing to share his own story! (And maybe this is after Dust reunites with Phantom, maybe Cross has gotten to see a glimmer of their relationship, strong and friendly, even if a bit strained from time. Nothing like him and Nine.) And Cross getting the lesson Dust was trying to get to him wrong at first. Dust gently pointing out to him what he meant. How they need to apologize... ough... This is going in the drawer in my brain of wholesome interactions I love dearly...
And now from the other rbs!
Myeba, I am also going Crazy over Ancha's wording there. Made to hurt eachother. It's so tragic, I'm gnawing on my own arm about it :D
And the broken glass/porcelain analogy!!!! Shaking!!! I love love love the idea of something no longer being in its original form but still being used and loved no matter what. Reparied, repurposed, etc!! (Gives me the energy of that 'to be loved is to be changed' line going around on occassion haha!)
And lastly!!! THE ROT!!!!! Gods, do you guy know how much it means to me that the siblings with The Rot subtext (thank you for that btw) are the ones that come from Ritten? The clean and perfect and spotless kingdom where it was meant to be a utopia? That X-Gaster (who I think is a germaphobe and perfectionist, which he did pass down to Nine and Cross btw) was only able to foster the nastiest, most destructive, most horrid things under his creation? That festering just below the surface everything was actively eating away at itself? At his foundations? At everything??? And it's STILL GOING???? Losing my mind!!!!! (/pos)
Thinking about Cross' reunion with his brother!!! (New Age AU lore run under the cut lmao-) ( @ancha-aus this is what I was on about a few messages ago!)
So, Ancha mentioned it a while ago, but I agree that Cross and his brother Nine should certainly get to see each other again <3 (this post might involve things I've said before but I have horrid memory soooo my apologies lol-) Note: I'm thinking Nine should be Cross' older brother! It makes sense narratively and also I've got too many older siblings in the Main cast haha-
Cross (Ten at the time) had a strained relationship with his older brother. X-Gaster was their only parent, and created them with the intention of making the perfect super soldiers, men who would obey his every command. Nine was the only one of X-Gaster's previous attempts to survive, and he was very.... maliciously compliant we'll say? Nine was a clever skeleton who would follow his creator's every command, so well that any and all loopholes would be taken advantage of whenever possible. Nine did not like X-Gaster, and he didn't like his rule, and he didn't like how the people were treated.
Of course, he had to make a hard choice when Ten was created. X-Gaster wanted to use Ten as an anchor to hold Nine back from his rebellion. If he had a little sibling to worry about, surely he would be more obedient, right? Well, no. Nine made sure X-Gaster never could use Ten against him by doing his rebellion regardless of how Ten was treated. Did it hurt? Yeah. Did he know he couldn't afford to let Ten get hurt by his connection to him? So badly. He ignored Ten for much of his life, which meant that X-Gaster gave up on using him for leverage, but was also given the chance to craft Ten exactly how he wanted without any of Nine's backlash.
Aka? Ten got manipulated by X-Gaster. Nine broke the rules, and he got punished. Ten did well? He was treated well. It turned out that Ten was his perfect soldier, and Nine was the one he could keep around to keep Ten in check.
And, Ten adored Nine. When they got older, Ten never stopped looking up to Nine, even if he thought Nine was reckless and stupid for being disobedient. He knew Nine had his reasons, and frankly? Nine showing him ANY kindness (helping him patch up wounds after training, leaving treats for him, looking at him kindly, etc.) was better than nothing and far better than X-Gaster. They had a really strange and unhealthy bond, but brotherly nonetheless.
So when they were both older, abd Nine was planning the coup, and he tried to bring Ten to his side? It hurt. It hurt both of them when Ten turned away. Ten never said a word about how it was Nine who asked him to join. He told X-Gaster someone tried, and he denied them, but nothing more. And then when the Coup was in motion and Nine had to face Ten? They both had to do what they thought was best. Ten obeyed, all he's ever known, and Nine finally broke the rules and laid all his cards on the table.
And when they won, when Ten was left without a master, when he'd fought hard against his older brother? When Ten was without direction and looked to Nine, but he couldn't follow Nine because Nine had broken all their rules... Nine was willing to watch out for Ten. There was no more threat of X-Gaster, they could finally live as siblings, but Cross had been too indoctrinated. He was too adamant during the coup. No one else could trust him, they didn't want him around, nothing. So he was honest with Nine and told him he was leaving, in passing, before simply running away.
When the opportunity to reunite arises, it's because Cross' original kingdom wants to be allies. It's been years, Nightmare is hardly 18 or so, and he's been slowly working to bring people together. When the kingdom reaches out, they also ask about Ten, because it's not exactly a secret as to where he eventually ended up. They want to reconnect.
Night is cautious. Cross assures him Nine wouldn't support leaders who weren't doing their best, so an allyship would make sense. Night is more worried for Cross' wellbeing and the threat it might pose to him (physically or emotionally) to face those in his old kingdom. So, they agree that Nightmare would visit with Killer and Dust as his initial party. Cross would stay back with Horror (and Blue + Dream as added back-up as Knights) at the kingdom.
Only after several visits of Night's (and discussing it very heavily with Lust, the other Knights, Night, etc) does he decide he'll go in person. By then he's the only Royal Knight who hasn't gone with Nightmare, and they decide he'll go alongside Killer (Killer could be trusted to keep an eye on both Cross and Night, and as the first Knight it's kinda like a dibs situation to be able to look out for Cross).
And like. I haven't quite fleshed out Nine's personality yet... but I do believe that the moment he meets Nightmare and his men (because Nine became head of the guard in Cross' absence) he's unable to help himself from greeting Cross with a "Ten!" And I think Cross would recoil because, reading his old name is one thing, hearing it said is another. And he's really not sure how to respond.
(This is going to keep sitting in my drafts if I don't post it now, but basically this is just a quick look at my thought process so far for Cross + his Brother lol-)
#new age au#Anyways you guys are very very awesome#and totally showed up for this post (though you do that with all of them so-)#but fr this made me SO giddy to read through!!!!!#yippeeeeee!!!!!!!

for the ask game (1)
au where bruce is attracted to his robins and batgirls. he tries not to think about it or act on it, but it's getting more difficult with every new member of his team he acquires. does anyone know? do the robins and batgirls notice his weird behavior? what do they do about it? do they ever find out the truth? who would think it's terrible and who would find it strangely hot/comforting/nice? does bruce ever act on his feelings?
for the ask game!
oh my GOD do i have thoughts for AUs like this, i love this shit so dearly, dirtybadwrong Bruce who's trying to keep a lid on it my beloved.
i think the fun of this AU is if characters would notice Bruce lusting for themselves vs would they notice Bruce lusting for a different Robin/Batgirl. like does Dick pick up on it when it's just him and Bruce? no, because it's just. him and Bruce. he and Bruce are weird and complicated and hold endless bounds of nuance. that's just How Bruce Is, and Dick is the "test run", in a sense. he knows Bruce is new to this whole sidekick/family thing and is giving Bruce grace for being rough around the edges. but when Bruce starts looking at Jason or Tim or Cass that way, that's when Dick starts to notice. it's never enough of a suspicion he feels justified to bring it up, but the thought lingers. he's hyperaware and grows less and less comfortable with leaving them alone with Bruce. it's a weird game of chicken, Dick and Bruce staring each other down when Bruce's touch lingers too long. each waiting for the other to say something first. if Bruce ever broke and actually acted on his feelings, Dick would be eaten alive by the guilt of knowing something was up, but never saying something until it was too late.
obviously, Cass would know. there's no world where Cass *doesn't* know, the nature of who and what she is would immediately clock it. but the issue is, Cass doesn't have a good framework of what family looks like. she doesn't really understand familial vs romantic love bc she has no firsthand experience of what a parent's love should even look like. so she never calls it out. she just watches. i'm a fan of Cass believing this is normal and believing she too can express and act on attraction that's vaguely incestuous. maybe it's with Babs, maybe it's with Dick or Tim or Bruce himself. but she recognizes this as Normal and Accepted within the Batfamily, so it severely fucks up her understanding of familial love and i just. man it's my favorite thing about Cass in Batcest honestly, is how you can play with her lack of experience with love, boundaries, and sexuality.
Tim is the fun one for me. because my favorite flavor of BruTim is when Tim knows, as he agrees to be Robin, that there's a non-zero chance that Bruce is going to be Weird and agrees anyway because he's decided it's an acceptable risk. so Tim knows from the get-go because he's expecting it. if Bruce acts on his attraction, i think it's either with Tim or Cass first, because they're the most likely to confront him about it in a way that isn't entirely negative. Tim has accepted it's a possibility and Cass just seeks being loved and touched so. it leads to the first time someone's ever confronted Bruce about it. and the thing is, Bruce really doesn't like confrontation about his flaws. the first time Tim tries to imply he's okay with it, Bruce would lash out at the idea, tell Tim how inappropriate that is and benches Tim for a week. it'd probably take a united front from Cass and Tim to get Bruce to even *admit* to the attraction. still Bruce wouldn't allow it to happen and he brushes them off until finally, the dam breaks. it's fun if there's a cause like sex pollen, but i think it's *more* fun if it's just. a random fucking Tuesday and finally Bruce is at his limit. he has no real reason, there's nothing particularly different about that day's routine. he just sees Tim or Cass striping armor and sighs and gives in.
i don't think Steph, Jason, or Babs would notice until anything substantial happened. not because they're not wicked smart, but just because none of them were looking for it. Jason put Bruce on a pedestal when he was alive, and when he came back from the dead he wasn't close enough to be noticing Bruce's interpersonal dynamics outside of his narrow scope. Steph has no real framework for what healthy fatherhood looks like, so if Bruce's touches linger, if he stares too long, she just shrugs and assumes it's how it is. and Babs was just never quite close enough to Bruce to notice. if and when she notices, is when actual sexual things start to happen between Cass and Bruce. because Cass would see no reason to hide it. Babs would be pissed, but it'd be tricky to navigate. Cass would be an adult, even if she's only 18/19, so technically, she's old enough to be consenting. if nothing else, Bruce is a careful man. even when he breaks and gives in to his desires, he covers his tracks well. he makes sure he has enthusiastic consent and there's no legal recourse that could be taken. age of consent and all that. there's not much Babs can *do* other than try to tell Cass (and/or Tim) that this isn't normal or okay. not that it gets her anywhere, but god would she try.
by the time Duke comes along (if we venture out of the pre-Flashpoint era) i think it's a sort of. open secret, in the Batfamily. talked about in nothing but hushed whispers and knowing glances. at some point, they've all had sex with Bruce, caving all for different reasons. some more than others. Tim sees it as a duty, Cass sees it as a way of seeking comfort, Steph sees it as getting Bruce's approval for once, etc. it's never forced on them, but eventually, they all come to Bruce sooner or later. and that's the fun irony of it, i think. they try to convince the others not to, but would go to Bruce on their own well. because complicated reasons they can't put into words. sometimes, Bruce is just a messy man who doesn't realize how prized his Attention to for the rest of the Batfamily. that weird duality of not liking him, but also wanting desperately for him to like you. all of them have dealt with it, at some point. so for Duke, it takes a while for him to understand this... whole dynamic. it's Cass who tries to explain it to him, and he's a little horrified, a lot confused. especially when Bruce starts staring at him a little too long as well. i think he'd only want to watch first but well. they all cave eventually.
also fun bonus if we venture into the Dark Knight Returns universe for my bestest girl Carrie Kelley: there's such a like, "i'm fucking around and i'm finding out" vibe to Carrie. like Tim, she's very proactive in just. deciding she's going to be Robin and she's ready for whatever that entails. (IMO canon Carrie is closer to fanon Tim than canon Tim is but *that* deserves its own post-) like she takes one look at the old man that is Batman and goes yup. he's never fucking getting rid of me now. if Bruce started having weird feelings about her, i think she'd have *fun* with it. she's decided she's in it for the long haul and for whatever being Robin means so. she's almost teasing about it, seeing how hard she can push before Bruce snaps. since it's an older, gruffer Bruce, i think he'd express open annoyance at it first, almost a sort of banter about how Carrie behave. but of course he caves and Carrie leans into it, because there's a fun in having all of Bruce's attention to herself. in the main timeline, Bruce is pretty split with so many Robins and Batgirls, but during their era, it's *just* her and him and she's very proud she's got him all to herself.
#bruce fucks/lusts after every batfam member and they all want to protect each other from him#but also they're all going to fuck him anyway bc they're hypocrite and self sacrificial.#necrotic answerings#ask game#brudick#brujay#brutim#brucass#brusteph#brubabs#bruduke#brucarrie#batcest#did i get all the ship names? god i hope so#listen i'm a pre-flashpoint girlie but know i believe there should be more duke in batcest spaces.#let him in on the fun. stop calling him the normal one. let him ALSO be toxic and gay damnit#though trying to figure out their ship name i cackling at the thought of it being bruke or duce. it's so fucking funny to me and idek why#also let carrie into batcest spaces damnit. there's so few bruce/carrie fics you're all uninspired /lh#anyway yeah i'm obsessed with the vibes of#does anyone like bruce? no but his attention. his approval. the things most of the batkids would do for it#i think you could do bruce/helena b with these vibes too#but ngl i got do mad at the batman: brave & the bold show for doing helena dirty by just making her hot for bruce#that i mentally tune that ship out#it's good. it has good potential for daddy issues.#but it just reminds me of how fucking *ass* helena is in that show. they fucked up my bbygirl.#idk why ppl like b:tb&tb so much. i don't think it's good??#is it nostalgia or something? like there's so many other better batman animated shows that can like. write women. idk that's just me#anyway love this concept so dearly <3#bruce who is so fucking bad at love he can't separate familial and romantic love my beloved <3#bruce wayne having *boundaries*? absolutely not in my good catholic batcest home.

Lan Xichen and Qin Su had quite a bit in common when it came to Jin Guangyao:
- First met JGY when they were in peril and he came to the rescue,
- Notably kind, beautiful, and good-natured,
- Did not place value on his origin or look down on him for his mother's profession,
- Were vocal in their support of him socially.
Which makes me think that we were robbed of maybe the greatest potential JGY partnership: Wen Ning.
Wen Ning: so ride-or-die that actually dying did not stop him from continuing to be ride-or-die. Wen Ning, presumably in quite the tenuous situation in Nightless City after the Jiang heir disappeared under suspicious circumstances, right when Meng Yao was working is way into Wen Ruohan's inner circle. Wen Ning, the sweetest cinnamon roll.
Slight canon divergence where Wen Qing missed one single opportunity to send Wen Ning out of Nightless City for a while, Wen Ning gets into juuust enough trouble, Meng Yao has the keys to the cell... one flash of Wen Ning's bambi eyes and he would have been a goner.

Brainstorming parallels between the older group, and Carol + Hop + Naomi is fascinating because of parallels. Legacies. Similar issues while also not. Unresolved, haunting the present, like the strained friendship between Sonia + Raihan, Sonia + Leon, Raihan + Leon, and all three together. That's not even accounting for Nessa and Piers, or Bede and Marnie for the younger ones.
Sonia sees herself in Hop, then realizes later that it's not only the insecurity and friends pulling further ahead. She witnesses how he withdraws without telling anybody why and making assumptions because of his anxiety, not asking for Help. Naomi is afraid that he'll run in the opposite direction away from her. It knocks the breath out of Sonia because. Was that her? Were that Raihan and Leon?
For an example of the bigger circle, Leon has a lot of parallels + contrasts with Carol reg. adult men who are not in their lives: dead or otherwise absent. (This might also apply to Piers, if he's the one who had to raise Marnie.) The two + Bede share a tumultous relationship with Rose, tinted with familial issues, power he has over them, seeking his approval / help, being abandoned by, and / or used by him at some point. They had to raise themselves a lot. They want an adult that cares about them. (Again, Piers maybe, too.) Not even going into how each of the three feel about each other.
--
The hot potato goes around. XDD Leon and Sonia have to be responsible one when Raihan underestimates potential trouble. There are times he and Leon have to hold the Responsible Braincell when Sonia goes off, then others when Sonia and Raihan have to do it for Leon. Sometimes it's impossible, like when the two get into a history spat for the bit, and / or annoy their friends with that.
Raihan wants to outdo Nessa and looks online for terrifying ghost stories. He might stumble about things about Dynamaxing as well as of massive dragon. The last one is his favorite because dragon. The ghost stories feel very ironic with the knowledge that they'll become part, sort of, of a ghost story a few years later!

A gym trainer would be a good track to keep in practice. Knowledge, facilities, methods - all there for improvement. Her work ethic and results impress the gym leader. She researches and applies things that she will need for the application. Swimming to keep fit, figuring out her theme, her public persona. Although it's often daunting.
The image of Nessa wrangling down water pokemon and animal fish that are as big as her torso delights me. Leon isn't as good as Milo at it, but he knows how to tackle and wrangle Wooloo. The two of them argue which is more difficult.
I cackled at the dialogue. I can imagine that exchange so well between her and him, and their tones. Just two roughly ten-years-old competing who's going to find Kyoge first and kick its ass. Their friends stare in worry.
On the other hand, I feel Leon would admire that she knows so much about the ocean and the wider world? It's one thing to learn these things in school, but I believe Leon and his family never left Galar? Nessa through her family's trade could meet a lot of people from other regions because Hulbury is a harbor. She appreciates that Leon strives to learn so much. He takes her seriously, he is grounded, he can relate to her through.
--
Thank you for explaining. If Soul appears in their nightmares, or only Leon's, it's because he's deeply worried about him because of his rapidly declining health and how hope's dwindling / gone? So his brain included him. Throwing this idea like spaghetti at a wall: Could Eternatus's soul sense something about him because of Soul / Soul being chosen by Zacian / the curse / any combination of that plus the Weald? Or Leon felt drawn because of these things, able to sense them maybe? It's compelling.
Oleana and Rose could've sent Bede there...
What was the young adults (Nessa, Raihan, Sonia, Leon, etc.) gym challenge like in Legendsverse when they were younger?
And any foreshadowing or hints to Eternatus?
I'm stilllllll figuring that out, especially bc it's been a while since I exactly expressed my ideas of what they were like back then. I'm gonna focus on Leon, Sonia, Raihan and Nessa. Maaaaaybe Piers. We'll see. This will be long so buckle up!
Leon and Sonia are gonna get grouped together for now bc man. The parallels. I haven't fully decided who endorsed them. I wasn't sure if I wanted Leon to be endorsed by Rose and Sonia by someone else, or if Rose endorsed Sonia ( like in the manga) and Mustard endorsed Leon ( old friend of Gerardo, mayhaps?). The point being that these two went on their gym challenge together.
Sonia was the better trainer.
....At first. Sonia was someone who Leon could not beat when they were younger, and in the earlier part of their journey she really was the better trainer, and favorite of the media. Of course, among the favorites, there were plenty of people who called her a nepo baby and thought she was ruining the sport. Leon wasn't that shabby of a battler. But in terms of skill, back then, he wasn't as good as Sonia. But what he did have was passion and determination. Leon knew from the jump what his goals are. He wants to become champion and he wants Galar to become stronger for it. So even if he wasn't as skilled as Sonia ( yet) he was going to claw his way to that top just everyone. And people noticed that. That fiery passion, that light that he had. It was a much more gradual buildup compared to the success of Sonia who was kinda hit with everything from the jump ( can't imagine that really helped with her enjoyment of the gym challenge),and once Leon started going he could not be stopped. And when you just keep going, someone has to get left behind right?
Personality wise, again something I haven't fully thought of. I used to like the idea that Leon was shy, but I think it fits him more that he was always this full of energy and ....I dunno expressive? But also hard to read. Someone who's determined, who's passionate, who has a good laugh, but you always don't know what he's thinking. That. Sonia....I feel she used to be rather confident in herself. Dare I say, she might have been a smart alek back then, willing to "um actually" someone ( Raihan. It was Raihan). But she was still Sonia. She was still awkward, and kinda uncertain of herself at times. She has a tendency to get in her head that just keeps her stuck - oh hey Hop, what are you doing here? ( This kid and his many parallels).
Where Leon gradually became a force that could not stop, Sonia....well. The gym challenge was wearing her down. Like I said, she has a tendency to get stuck in her head. She would make battle plans, said plans fell apart, and she was left floundering her way through a battle. Everyone's eyes were on her and....and all her friends were so bright. Leon was so bright. They all were bright. They all knew what they wanted....did she know what she wanted? When was the last time she enjoyed a pokemon battle? ......
I'm of the mind that Sonia dropped out of the league around the 7th gym, so at Melony's gym. She had won, said gym, but at that point she could have sent herself that she wasn't having fun and just felt. Lost. Her friends were also so far ahead too so. No way she can make a comeback now, huh? I think this is when her and Leon's friendship breaks bc just like Hop and Naomi, it's been them. Sonia and Leon, against the world. I can't imagine what it's like watching your best friend give up ( even if in the long run, it was literally the best option for her mentally), having that friend just. Close herself in. And there's already a big gap between Sonia and Leon by this point, so when Leon turns around to check on her, not only is she far away, but she's most likely walking in the opposite direction. Or at the very least, too far away for him to reach. It's been awkward after that. But this is about the gym challenge so. Story for another time.
Raihan....oh Raihan. It's been years and I still haven't figured out a solid backstory for him. It's driving me insane. So for simplicity sake, I'm gonna say he was endorsed by the old gym leader of Hammerlocke gym. What's their relationship exactly? No clue, and we're not gonna talk about it right now. Kid Raihan....well tbh, I've always seen him as a little chill, but have a very mean mischievous streak. A pure agent of chaos that one. He was a bit more.... rambunctious (?) back then. Kiiiinda wore his heart on his sleeve more and reacted as such- but overall, really chill. Sometimes had to be the voice of reason for Sonia and Leon ( which is incredibly funny since he is most likely the one that put bad ideas in their head/ goad them into trouble. The duality of this kid). Sonia and him would get on each other's nerves and bicker a lot bc their both smart ass kids, and depending on the subject one is more chill than the other. But it gradually just became custom for them and a form of affection! They both ended up becoming the others impulse control. Raihan and Leon.....Leon kept beating him. And despite how chill he is, Raihan has pride, so each loss just makes him more frustrated. Fortunately, Leon being Leon smoothed things over - he honestly couldn't bring himself to be so mad. Plus, their rivalry was fun! They kept each other on their toes, each move being done with great intensity and vigor. Raihan had a goal to one up Leon one day and Leon would embrace it fully. ( Leon being Champion kinda. Sullied that notion. It still exists, but with lots of outside factors going into it, specifically that their rivalry is now treated as something for others to consume and watch, not just two friends who wanted to see each other grow stronger and try and best each other). In the end Raihan was the one that faced off Leon for the champion title....and lost. And honestly, I think. He reacted pretty badly. I can't blame him, he's a kid, his loss was in public for everyone to see, and he worked so hard- I do not blame him for reacting badly. But man did it make things tense between him and Leon. Even when things settled down, and the initial issue was gone, that tenseness never fully went away, but that's getting way ahead of the gym challenge. Overall, Raihan was that chill but very mischievous friend that loved to bicker with Sonia about history and battle Leon to be the best.
Nessa....I don't have much for her outside of this very specific thing: she was competitive as fuck and a bit of a hot head. I see her carrying herself with so much dignity that the other three could not help but move aside when she was walked by. Leon and Raihan found her intimidating/scary. Sonia found her criminally pretty. I actually think it was Sonia that had Nessa integrated into their little group. Not that Leon and Raihan didn't interact with her, but Sonia was the one that couldn't help but want to get to know her. I mean, she was so confident! How on earth can she be able to walk by like she owned the place. She had to figure it out. ( Raihan: Or you just folded at the first pretty face you saw. Leon: Pfft- Sonia: SHUT UP!!!). They actually became fast friends! Nessa was friendly, if not a bit more stern about the gym challenge ( "quite fooling around and take this seriously!" <- something I can see her saying). Leon and her actually ended up getting along REALLY well! I think it's the market kids bonding over their families respective trade - humble beginnings I suppose. Raihan pissed her off a lot though. One minute they could be having a normal friendly conversation and the next, Raihan is laughing his ass off while Nessa is shaking him by his shirt. And yeah! I'm not sure when she got eliminated - yes eliminated, Nessa is not someone to quit imo. Maybe during the champion cup, maybe somewhere else. But I think she had a really good run! I can actually see her being the one to encourage Sonia to quit her gym challenge, since she saw how unhappy it was making her. I think the promise that they'll still be friends and Nessa cares more about Sonia's happiness kinda just cemented the feelings Sonia had, both platonically and romantically. Nessa is a good good friend to Sonia, even past the gym challenge and years to come.
Yeaaaaah, I'm not doing Piers I don't have much for him. I do think it was Raihan that befriended him first! I feel like he was very much that friend of a friend that didn't reallllly hang out with the others as often but would still get dragged into their shenanigans and was genuinely part of the group. He was the closest to Raihan, but still gave every one cute lil nicknames :3
And finally: Eternatus is weird timeline wise. I don't think Rose got it around the time Leon became champion. I feel that happens some years into Leon's career? Maybe in his teens. So during the gym challenge, Eternatus was still very much a fossil.....but here's an idea. Leon gets lost. Like he usually does. But it's worse here, because he's lost within the deeper levels of the Galar mines. Charmeleon is with him, so he can see, and he's fairly confident in his ability to handle the wild pokemon....but it still sucks. ( It's moments like these that makes him wish that the Galar Rangers are still a thing. Wish that his dad was there to guide him). So he's still wandering around, trying to get himself out of this strange situation....and then he sees it. On the wall,a giant fossil. Or at least, a piece of a fossil? He can't really say but it's there. Right before him. Has anyone ever seen it before? He is rather deep into the mine- he's pretty sure he's not supposed to even be there. Sonia would love to get a look at it.....he can't seem to turn his eyes away. There's something about the fossil. Something.... daunting. Something heavy. It makes his stomach sink, and he feels himself shutter a little but he can't look away. It wouldn't be until Charmeleon takes a hold of Leon's hand , looking at it's trainer with concern. Leon smiles, even if it's clearly nervous, thanks Charmeleon and turns away from the fossil. He eventually does get out of the caves, gets scolded by Sonia and Raihan and goes among his merry way. He forgets about the fossil by then. Though maybe it's still there, at the back of his mind. Maybe that's why, when he sees it again, it feels so familiar.
Just a lil plot bunny for ya :)

Batman #149 by chip zdarsky is mostly unremarkable, but I'm really fascinated by how it makes a great case for 'good' endings not saving 'bad' stories*. Because there's a lot of interesting concepts in this issue (bruce having to deal with his rapidly aging and decaying clone making him think about his own life, re-establishing a 'nest' so to speak for his family after pushing them away, etc) but bc of the OOC slog that came before it, almost every moment w/ the batfamily comes off as unearned and disingenuous imo.
Like, everything with Damian is the perfect example in this. Because in isolation it's...fine. admittedly it's a missed opportunity to not go deeper into how Damian would feel about a clone of his dad who tried to kill considering Damian's relationships with clones of himself (the heretic rejects and respawn) or with former enemies who wanted him dead but who were manipulated and/or brainwashed (like suren and maya).
Zdarsky doesn't go into any of this but you could maybe excuse it as the issue not being about Damian. However, coupled with the previous bizarre characterizations of Damian in 147 and 148, it ends up not being fine- instead it starts to feel...icky how Damian (who, despite often being drawn and written as white, will never have his connection to the non-white al ghuls forgotten and will always be effected by racism even when not portrayed as a poc) is constantly written as overly violent, uncaring and narrow minded in this run. Coupled w/ trying to recanonize the morrison origin for Damian it's like. OH this is badly written and laden with subtle bigotry, sick**
That's me going into detail on it with Damian but it's applicable to other things in this issue- the way Cass, Steph and Duke have all been ignored or turned into jobbers makes their inclusion in the 'family' here feel hollow instead of satisfying. Bruce proclaiming that Zur was still a part of him and he needs to accept responsibility for his actions (when it means taking in clone son) wrings hollow when just last issue zdarsky was bending over backwards to separate Bruce and Zur bc otherwise the Jason thing would get really awkward. Ends are achieved through means that feel hollow or strange. I'm at my destination but damn why'd the bus have to do all that???
I only really have opinions on this latest arc of zdarskys Batman bc it's the one I've read the closest (bc I'm a hater, masochist and avid follower of even the bad damian storylines) but it's not saying great things.
Bc zdarsky can do one thing good in this book, and it's write Bruce and Tim. And yet this entire story, whether of his own volition or editorial mandate, includes other characters who aren't Bruce and Tim, the fabric starts to unravel in very telling ways.
(p.s, I think pennyworth manor is an interesting idea but I feel like in execution it's just gonna be 'bruce living in a house haunted by the memory of the people he couldn't save' but with a different dead guy this time. Illusion of change and whatnot)
*whether or not the ending is good is up to you ofc, as is your opinion on the proceeding arc! I saw some ppl complain that the ending was too "WFA" for them, which I get even if I dont think it'll literally be the same premise. If anything it's probably a lead into the new tec run. Likewise many ppl who aren't in the weeds of Damian and Jason characterization liked the previous arc! But I have my opinions and rest my case before the bench
**disclaimer, I'm white and portrayals of bigotry in comics are complicated and subjective, but I am basing my point here off what other poc comic fans on socmed have been saying about 149. Also the "sick" is sarcasm incase that wasn't obvious
#ramblings of a lunatic#dc comics#dc#damian wayne#bruce wayne#uhhh. not gonna tag the others i dont have time#batman#idk if the zdarsky series has its own tag#anyway yeah. i saw some interesting discussions surrounding 149 and it got me thinking#the experience of reading the issue is inoffensive until i remember how we got here and then all of a sudden i start to feel downright evil#the bruce/zur separation thing pisses me off so bad. MOTHERFUCKER YOU WERE JUST SAYING LAST ISSUE THAT NONE OF IT WAS HIM#and maybe we were meant to agree w Bruce and not Jason in that issue but if that's the case. piss poor job demonstrating it#Bruce never really faces like. interpersonal consequences from the family that last beyond an issue#which is WILD considering the shit he pulled back before they knew he was having a menty b (mental breakdown for those who dont know)#the damian thing is just like. its such clear author bias in ways both lowkey funny and also. not funny. at all#i know a lot of ppl on here didnt vibe w/ batman and robin by joshua williamson but like#i cannot stress enough how he was one of the ONLY ppl in damians corner and now hes leaving that series#he says he approves of the new creative teams assigned but also they're his coworkers. so i dont trust SHIT until its in my hands#anyway one day I'll give a more good faith reading of zdarskys Batman and i do wanna read his daredevil some day#but as it stands he suffers from terminal ''has seemingly never read a comic not abt my special white boys and refuses to try''#which means everyone is going to have to suffer through my haterism#also sorry for no images. i really want to but i just don't have the wherewithal to do alt text rn

still haven't moved on from zane in this episode (aka I hit tag limit again and am unhappy about it)
#alek insanity#not gonna main tag this but prepare for a tiny rant#home is actually really good zane characterization and its super cool to me how it holds up to this day#s1 characterization is very specific to me because the behaviors displayed by the ninja there (mostly) isnt bc thats how they really are but#its due to societal pressure. cole originally being more 'stone faced tough guy' -> 'down to earth' -> 'really sensible easy to talk to guy'#is because hes always been a sensitive guy... but he felt he couldnt express that true version of himself. thats the whole thing behind his#true potential. jay going from s1 -> s6 -> now is less of societal pressure and more teenager figuring himself out but it still applies. ish#seeing how much the ninja have changed or grown from then to now is amazing because back then they all wore masks. they didnt know each#other all that well. but theyve gained that comfortability with each other and also have grown and matured as people#some seasons / eps characterization for certain people im not a fan of (lloyds random misogyny arc in s13) but i mean the overall trend here#and then there is zane. zane in home was pretty dead on to how he behaves now (at least... when it comes to his faults?) and i dont want to#say people skim over that but i am the sf proclaimed n1 s1e2 fan and overthink every scene. zane's early characterization is some of my fav#for him period. he also goes through a ton of traumatic stuff and a ton of bad writing bouts but why he acts so 'weird' or 'distant' has#always been a thread sewn in. he changed so much he stayed the same in a way... if that makes sense. -> ohhh the ninja get mail and he#doesnt? oh he has no family? he quite literally walks away from that situation. oh the ninja are yelling in his face and asking whats wrong#with him? he literally walks away from that situation. he says its to follow the falcon but seeing how he apologized to them by not only#baking a ton of pies (cough... the food fight is what led to him leaving at first) but he also found them a whole entire new house.#zane is unable to truly value what he does for others. insert him in s11 saying he 'tried' to fufill his goal of protecting others.#everything he has ever done still isnt good enough. then the ninja tried to apologize and he didnt really... let them.#that one post about characters putting on facades and that facade being how people really see them. even in fandom. thats zane to me#the guy who lies about being upset and avoids his problems ran away after being yelled at? and he said he wasnt really mad? that is a lie!!#him being a ~360 when it comes to his character development is neat to me because he never hid behind a mask in the same way the others did#cole wanting to seem tough vs being really soft? kai wanting approval so bad he starts being selfish? kai isnt selfish usually!#he is self centered but that is a whole different thing. just wanting to fit in and breaking free of that. zane's true potential came in the#form of 'i finally know why i am not normal' instead of 'i will be my true self'. zane never pretended to not be weird#(instert book) states he literally didnt know why people got mad at him. he just existed and it was 'wrong'. the mask he hid behind was#avoidance. he was pretty open about how he actually was (most of the time). when he was upset he would audibly sigh and walk away lol#but for him saying he wasnt upset / saddened by the ninja... it felt like a moment of selflessness. if that makes sense. he blamed himself#for the monestary burning down. so he didnt deserve the apologies (ish) in the virtues of spinjitzu zane is shown as the generous one iirc#he puts the needs of others over his own. he will bear whatever burden he needs if others are happy. at that same time he doesnt allow

thinking about all the verbal (and, at least once in the books, physical) abuse from regis that richard just reacted to, then apparently absorbed and moved on from. and then when he literally sets regis’s entire building on fire — on purpose, for revenge — he still expects regis to go “oh well, i’ll let bygones be bygones, lets get out of here and start over.” which is. not what happens. how conditioned to just…….. getting over abuse do you have to be to set your boss’s building on fire on purpose and then be surprised when he’s angry and vindictive about it
#‘come on the fire’s getting close’ HES NOT LETTING YOU OUT OF THIS ONE MY DUDE#makes me so insane like. he’s so sick in his head he needs self respect so so so bad#‘ah making money at any cost = self respect’ nope!#‘so doing good at my Evil Job and making my Evil Boss happy = self-respect’ guess again!#‘uhhh holding my Ex Evil Boss at (water)gun point = self respect?’ NOPE#the punchline being that. in canon. he never gets it. he never figures it out. he never gets there#he’s still just throwing himself into Situations hoping it’ll be Enough. and……is it? we’ll never know!#because 🎶 we’re focus on the family airlines and life’s a fucking nightmare 🎶#it just gets me that at the root of all of it he’s just the loneliest guy who wants approval so bad he’ll put up with anything to keep it#or maybe im just sick in the head too and this is all romanticization and projection! can’t help it im an english major it’s in my dna#aster chat#richard maxwell#aio
