Welcome back to part 9/12 of our Marvel Injustice Roster.
Guidelines:
There are 24 characters in the base game, 12 Heroes and 12 Villains. This doesn't include clone characters.
Cosmic and Multiversal Characters like the Guardians of the Galaxy or Spider-Man 2099 won't be added to keep the game grounded.
Anti-Heroes like Deadpool and Punisher also won't be added.
However, if some characters fit into the previous category, I'll consider them if they're a big enough deal in terms of history and importance to the storyline.
The storyline is based upon Marvel's AXIS Story, so with the exception of two characters everyone will have a hero and villain persona.
Without further delay, here is the roster:
Why did they join?
Moonstone: Wanted a Thunderbolt, and she had the perfect clone (revealed in 11/12)
Mysterio: Got tired of seeing the same three spidey villains in consideration for MvC, decided by you guys
War Machine: Got surprised by the lack of black characters in the roster, 2 more are on the way, Iron Man Clone.
Sabertooth: Wolverine Clone, bigger, stronger but slower and less range on attacks compared to Wolverine
This next one is the last character for the base game.

THE MORNING POST
The Social Season has Arrived
March 27, 1876
The opening of Parliament is coming soon and with that, the social season will return to London once more. While those of the nobility and gentry have made their way to the illustrious capital since the beginning of March, the mark of the social season has arrived in the black carriages bearing a silver and blue crest. The illustrious Duke of Mercedes and his family have finally arrived to London.
His Grace, Duke Hamilton is always a welcome sight in London and this year is no different with plans to fund repairs of the orphanages damaged in the storm and overseeing the building of a new hospital. The omega mate of the Duke, the Duchess Nico Hamilton née Rosburg, is set to host the first ball of the social season and has already unveiled plans to support multiple charities. The only son and heir to the Duchy of Mercedes, George Hamilton, Earl of Williams, is set to join his father in a variety of business ventures this year – no doubt in preparation for his soon to be role as Duke. Accompanying them will be the youngest child of the household, a newly presented Alpha, and yet to be titled heir, the Lady Lia, to get a taste of the work she will soon inherit.
The omega mate of the Earl of Williams, the common-born Countess Alexander, has his hands full this season with charity events but also the marriage prospects of the family's only omega child. The Honorable Logan Hamilton, the only son and omega to the Earl and his Countess, is still on the marriage market after a regretful first season.

Thank you ☺️

Claude Rains Character Masterlist!
Here's a handy-dandy guide of all the wonderful characters Claude Rains has portrayed over a nearly seven decade long career. We encourage all to have a gander at all these invisible men, prefects of police, fathers, criminal masterminds, otherworldly beings, and men of history alike! Each link will take you to a picture of that specific character, so even if you're not familiar with them, you can send in propaganda anyhow (such as 'what a lovely wig!', 'astonishing facial hair!', or even 'such a beautiful hat!'). We also realize that two of these characters share a name - John Stevenson (from The Last Outpost and Strange Holiday, respectively), so when submitting propaganda for these characters, please indicate which one! We will try our best to sort through the submissions regardless!

Age 35 is ANCIENT
Reading Sense & Sensibility again (actually listening but same difference) and I love laughing at Marianne’s overly dramatic descriptions of how ANCIENT 35 years old is...
His pleasure in music, though it amounted not to that ecstatic delight which alone could sympathize with her own, was estimable when contrasted against the horrible insensibility of the others; and she was reasonable enough to allow that a man of five and thirty might well have outlived all acuteness of feeling and every exquisite power of enjoyment. She was perfectly disposed to make every allowance for the colonel’s advanced state of life which humanity required. (Ch 7)
And again
the colonel’s advanced years... “if he were ever animated enough to be in love, must have long outlived every sensation of the kind. It is too ridiculous! When is a man to be safe from such wit, if age and infirmity will not protect him?”... “But he talked of flannel waistcoats,” said Marianne; “and with me a flannel waistcoat is invariably connected with aches, cramps, rheumatisms, and every species of ailment that can afflict the old and the feeble.” (Ch 8)
Now often people argue to me that Regency people looked a lot older than people today, which is possible. However, the gentry wore hats, did not do hard labour, and had the ability to keep out of the sun. As Sir Walter in Persuasion points out, if they weren’t in the navy they tended to fare pretty well. So I searched through some rulers of the era (they have tons of portraits at different ages) and I found some ANCIENT men!
The Prince Regent of England (later George IV), at the incredibly advanced age of 36:
Napoleon Bonaparte, at 32, clearly already infirm:
And Alexander 1st of Russia, pushing 37! So old:
Now yes, portrait artists of monarchs might hide the signs of aging, but in later portraits of Napoleon the receding hairline is shown and later portraits of George IV show both aging and weight gain.
Colonel Brandon might have had more sun damage to his face because he was posted in the East Indies, hmmmm... like The Duke of Wellington:
This portrait was painted when Wellington was 46! Here he is at 35:
I’m very sorry Marianne Dashwood, you have exactly zero legs to stand on!
#yes it is Christmas and I am using my time to search portraits of 35 year old Regency men#marianne dashwood#colonel brandon#you have to remember that these people are rich#they can afford to avoid things that prematurely age them#even the military guys#portraits#sense and sensibility#but I do love you marianne#this is not a marianne hate post#she's hilariously genuine as a teenager#jane austen

the character graveyard — a creator's lament
a wall of snow keeps you hidden, it's true.
my hands tainted. I buried you all myself.
some of you live, just barely, breathing through a straw in your graves. an illusion of existence.
some of you never had the chance. your lives extinguished before you could fully form.
massacre.
your god has not forsaken you, I plead.
though I am god and she is merciless. by circumstance, not design.
I come to acknowledge you. you forgotten ones, the ones I hid, the ones who died by my hand and the ones who fizzled from existence before I could reach them. I gather you here today. to recognise you. mourn you. immortalise you.
I raise my chalice to each of you.
here's to the faceless ones. the ones I never named. the ones who had nothing but a name. a vibe. a role. a disembodied something. you hadn't enough love or care. I'm sorry.
here's to the fleeting ones. ones who existed in passing. to assist another's narrative. to enhance the world.

Pieter Jan van Reysschoot - Portrait of Anne Askham - 1740
Petrus Johannes van Reysschoot or Pieter van Reysschoot (Ghent, 18 January 1702 – Ghent, 22 or 24 February 1772) was a Flemish painter and printmaker who is known for his genre scenes, hunting scenes, landscapes, portraits and Christian religious subjects. He spent a large part of his career in England, which earned him the nickname den Engelschman (‘the Englishman’). In England he painted history and sporting (i.e. hunting) scenes and was a portrait painter working on commissions particularly from the Midlands gentry.
Petrus Johannes van Reysschoot was born in Ghent as the son of Frans and Amelberghe vanden Neste. He was the first painter in a family which would include a large number of painters in the 18th century. He studied in France where he was registered at the Academie Royale in Paris in 1730 and later won a prize.
Between circa 1736 and 1743 the artist resided and worked in England. In England he painted history and sporting (i.e. hunting) scenes. He was also a portrait painter working on commissions particularly from the Midlands gentry. He was later nicknamed "the Englishman" because of this long stay in England. He returned to Ghent on the occasion of the death of his father on 27 February 1737. On 4 April of that year he attended, as godfather, the baptism of his nephew Petrus Norbertus van Reysschoot, who would become a prominent painter and art educator. By that time he must have already have become wealthy as he bought from his seven co-heirs, for the sum of 550 livres, the paternal house called ‘de Maeght van Ghendt’’ in the Overpoortstraat, a property burdened with heavy debts.
On the occasion of the installation of Maria Theresa as Countess of Flanders, the States of Flanders had decided to have four portraits of the sovereign painted which would be displayed under as many dais, two at the Ghent City Hall and in Bruges at the Brugse Vrije and the City Hall. Eleven portraits at three quarters size of these paintings were also made for the deputies of the States. By an act of the States dated 29 January 1744, the entire commission was awarded to Petrus Johannes van Reysschoot who at the time was still in London. Van Reysschoot was said to have promised to return soon to Ghent and begin the work within two months of the act.
After his return to Ghent around 1744 he became a sought after history and portrait painter. The governor of the Southern Netherlands Prince Charles Alexander of Lorraine visited Ghent in September 1752 and participated in the jay-shooting of the local crossbowmen's guild of Saint George. The Prince shot the jay just like his predecessor as governor Isabella had done at the jay-shooting in Brussels of 1615. Van Reysschoot was commissioned to paint a record of this feat that included portraits of the key members of the crossbowmen’s guild. The painting was delivered in 1657 and placed with much pomp in the Guild hall in November of that year. A small-scale version of the composition not including the portraits was created by the Ghent painter Filips Karel Marissal and also placed in the Guild Hall (both works are now in the Ghent City Museum).
Van Reysschoot was among the first protectors of the Ghent Academy of Arts. His nephew Petrus Norbertus van Reysschoot became one of the most distinguished professors of this institution.
The artist died in the house on the Overpoortstraat, which had remained his property, and was buried by the care of the Alexian brothers on 26 February 1772. In the mortuary book held by the brothers, he is registered as an unmarried painter.

Little hidden gems from big russian authors
In the 19th century, Russian culture reached its peak. In this "Russian Golden Age", arts, culture and especially literature became known worldwide. This is a list of small masterpieces written by the great Russian authors of this period.
1. Alexander Pushkin // "Little tragedies" (collection of short plays // 1830)
Pushkin is known as the first great poet of Russia. His realistic writing is combined with romantic, elegant elements. What not many people know is that he also wrote plays. "Little Tragedies" is a fascinating collection of 4 unique plays, later adapted for opera.
2. Mikhail Lermontov // "Masquerade" (theatre play // 1835)
Considered the greatest poet after Pushkin, Lermontov contributed to the enrichment of the Russian language and culture. A great romantic poet, he is also an important playwright. "Masquerade" is a play written in the specific, critical style of Lermontov, in which the idea of freedom and independence is debated.
3. Nikolai Gogol // "Petersburg Tales" (collection of short stories // 1843)
Known for his famous comedies such as "The Government Inspector" and "The Gamblers" and for the novel "Dead Souls", Gogol was an influential Russian writer. The small collection of stories "Petersburg Tales" includes a fascinating series of short stories from different genres.
4. Ivan Turgenev // "A nest of the gentry" ( short novel // 1859)
Turgenev is the Russian writer closest to the Western European literary tradition. Very critical of his fellow Russians, his novels and stories emphasize the decadence of the golden years, the war between generations and the misery of the contemporary spirit. "A nest of gentry" is a small novel easy to read, with a fascinating storyline and complex characters.
5. Fyodor Dostoyevsky // "Notes from the underground" (short novel // 1864)
I think there is no person who has not heard of Dostoevsky. One of the greatest writers of all time, his great novels have been translated into dozens of languages. Known as the faithful Orthodox writer, he develops the idea of the misery of the soul and human suffering. Many consider him the father of existentialism. "Notes from Underground" is a small novel that explores its big themes and is a fascinating read.
6. Lev Tolstoy // "The Death of Ivan Ilyich" (novella // 1886)
Tolstoy easily finds his place next to Dostoevsky. With a precious and analytical style, Tolstoy traverses the Russian bourgeois and aristocratic world and goes deep into both the mind and the soul of his characters. The novella "The Death of Ivan Ilyich" reflects on the serious theme of death in a tormented and poetic way at the same time.
7. Anton Chekhov // "Ward no.6" (novella // 1892)
The last of the great writers of the golden age, Chekhov is known as a great dramatist with an extremely refined and sometimes even dark sense of humor. He wrote most of his life comic stories that he published in satirical magazines. His least known works are the short stories, created in a much more philosophical and meditative style. "Ward no.6" is one of the most special of them, in which the doctor of a small town finds an escape from the monotony of his life in discussions with a patient from the mental ward.
