one of my favorite pieces of indycar lore is beadgate, also referred to as tubgate, and it is TRULY not talked about enough. in case any of you don’t know, here’s a deep dive into the lore.
to really get the full effect you have to rewind to may of 2021. for anyone who doesn’t know all of the drivers basically live in a lot together in motorhomes for the month of may. rossi returns to his bus one day to see that his golf cart had been put up on blocks, had the wheels taken off, and the wheels were now on top of his motorhome; see below:
Tumblr media
so alex, because he’s the most predictable human alive, is furious. he’s determined to find out who did this and get revenge on them. eventually he breaks down sweet baby colton, who originally helped conor with the golf cart on blocks, and colton tells him it was conor.
alex had already narrowed it down to conor, but colton confirmed it. alex even overhears a call between conor and colton where conor is panicking thinking alex is onto them. then alex starts a deliberate plan to get him back and make his life hell. despite being very adamant that he had nothing to do with the golf cart conor is very careful because he knows revenge is coming.
throughout the next week and a half-ish alex tries everything to get conor back. conor is being very careful to lock his bus and car whenever he’s away, and he’s also stopped using his golf cart completely and hidden it somewhere at the speedway. alex is so dedicated to doing this that he finds out who conor was going on a date with that night (because conor was a bit of a whore before his girlfriend), dms the girl on instagram, and gets her in on this prank.
he basically asked her to keep an eye out for his motorhome keys in the car or on him, she says she doesn’t see him, but tells him where they went for dinner. rossi goes to this restaurant, convinces the valet to give him the keys to conor’s car and looks for the keys to his bus, they aren’t there. then, not willing to give up, he goes to conor’s house and breaks in, still can’t find the keys.
finally, he heads back to the speedway and decides he’ll fuck with his golf cart instead, but like i said, conor’s golf cart is MIA. rossi starts a search party for this golf cart, he has everyone he knows, including doug boles (president of ims and conor’s step dad), looking for this golf cart and they can not find it. he calls it off for 2021, but promises that he’s not done yet, and now has a whole year to plan his next prank.
a whole year goes by, it’s may 2022, and because conor is who he is he decides an inflatable hot tub is an absolute need for his motorhome.
Tumblr media
he is so proud of himself for this thing and is showing it off to everyone, and the absolutely diabolical alex rossi sits back and laughs maniacally as everything falls into place.
alex does extensive research (as he does on most things) and finds out exactly how many orbeez it would take to fill the hot tub, and on tuesday morning of practice week he sneaks over to conor’s hot tub, and 4 hours later conor goes to show off his hot tub to someone and finds this:
Tumblr media
conor is furious and on the hunt for who would’ve done this, he, wrongly, assumed that it was done monday night and therefore couldn’t be alex because alex was with him. the whole week goes by, and he still doesn’t know who it is, until the night of the victory banquet when alex drops this:
Tumblr media
anyways this is my favorite thing ever hope you all enjoy as much as i do

Indycar bf! x reader gf! meet the parents
summary: your boyfriend finally meets your parents
pairing: f!reader x bf! David Malukas, Pato O’Ward, Alex Rossi
warning: just some fluff
a/n: this is part of a request from the sweet @bernelflo , the second part of the request will be posted shortly! 🫶
David Malukas
This dinner has been a long time in the works. You first moved to Indianapolis for college which eventually turned into you planting your roots there once you got your first job post-college. Somewhere in the mix of all that you met your current boyfriend David, which was a total surprise and complete matter of circumstances. However, due to David’s schedule with racing, it has been tough to find a time for your parents to visit you to actually meet David– and see your new apartment. But, tonight the pieces are all falling into place.
“Babe, you’ve set and reset the table about ten times now.” David says from the kitchen watching you frantically mess with the table setting. It all had to be perfect. You wanted your parents to see that their little girl was all grown up, in her own apartment, with her own job and her own boyfriend.
“Usually the boyfriend is the one who’s the anxious one in this situation.” You say letting out an exasperated laugh. This was one of the great things about your relationship dynamic with David, he was the one who could calm the storms going on in your mind.
“Oh trust me, I am anxious but it’s not like I’ve never talked to them before.” He responds coming to stand next to you and wrapping his arm around your shoulder. It’s true, you and him have facetimed your parents numerous times before but having everyone in the same room is different.
“I know it’ll all be fine but moving away for college was a big adjustment for all of us and I just want them to know I’m doing good, you know?” You say hugging David close.
“I know babe,” He says swaying you both side to side “I know they’re already very proud of you and everything you’ve accomplished.”
Dinner comes and goes in the blink of an eye. Your parents and David really hit it off. Your dad and David share in their love for coffee which results in your dad promising to buy you two a cappuccino machine because your simple Mr. Coffee isn’t enough. And your mom loves telling David all the baby stories about you that she can. It’s fair to say this dinner went very well, to an outsider it would’ve looked like the four of you had been in the same room multiple times before.
As you escort your parents out the door and thank them for making the trip down to Indy, your mom hugs you tightly.
“Oh I’m so proud of you, honey.” She says as she takes a step back and takes your hands in hers. “He’s a good one. The way he looks at you reminds me of how your father looked at me when we were young.”
You can’t help but smile at that compliment. Your parents were high school sweethearts and on top of that, they never seemed to have had a ‘honeymoon’ phase because they never left that. They’ve been so outwardly in love with one another since you can first remember.
“Keep taking good care of her, Dave.” Your dad adds as your parents exit.
“Well, I’d say that went swimmingly.” David says hugging you from behind and planting a kiss on your hair. “Now, we need to figure out where a cappuccino machine will go.”
Pato O’Ward
Pato is stressed to the max when you step into his motorhome. Not only is today the Indy500, but your parents are here. And coincidentally his family is too. You’ve been around the O’Wards plenty since they come to many races. Elba has basically become the sibling you never had since you were an only child. Ever since Pato introduced you to his family, they all welcomed you with open arms making sure that you always felt at home when you were with them.
“What if they don’t like me?” Pato says, running his hand through his hair, looking at you with the most worried look you have ever seen in your life. The same guy who has met some of the most renowned people in the world of motorsports is freaked out about meeting your parents; two people from a small town who become friends with everyone they meet.
“Patito, what’s there to not love about you?” You ask wrapping your arms around Pato’s waist and resting your head against his chest.
“I don’t know, they could think I’m terrible or something. I don’t know.” He retorts, exhaling from his nose.
“They’re gonna love you, I promise. And I love you too.” You respond. “Besides, if they didn’t think highly of you– which they do– they wouldn’t have come all this way.”
“Yeah, I guess you’re right.” He says letting his shoulders relax from being so tense.
“I always am.” You respond, leaning up to give him a tender kiss. You know how worked up Pato can get when he gets in his head and that moment causes him to chuckle lightly. His worry is starting to wear off, thankfully.
Soon enough, Pato has to get ready for the race and you and Elba go to the suite where both your parents are at. Upon your arrival, you see everyone already engrossed in conversation, sharing stories. This is a good sign you think to yourself.
It’s very clear Pato wanted to make a good impression on your parents because he wins the race and records the fastest lap. Your dad remarks that he hopes Pato didn’t win on your parent’s accord which earns a laugh from you, your mom and the O’Wards.
When you go down to celebrate with Pato and the team, all his worries from earlier have been washed away. Everyone is bursting with excitement, it feels like you’re in a fever dream because you’re high off pure adrenaline. In the midst of celebratory hugs, Pato hugs your parents. And, if you weren’t standing next to them you wouldn’t have been able to hear him thank your parents for being there.
After the rush of winning subsidies, you, Pato and your families go out for a celebratory dinner. It’s pretty safe to say that the cautionary tale of “bad in-laws” won’t be an issue for either of you in the future.
“Now, Pato, I’ve watched you race a few times on T.V. before,” your dad begins “but, I don’t think any of that has done your talent justice as today has. You’ve got a true gift, kid.”
Bingo. There it is. It’s like a blanket of rapport has finally settled over everyone, nobody even has a single worry in their mind as to whether the families will get along or not.
Alex Rossi
A new interest Alex has picked up since you started dating him was horses. He had recently gained part ownership of a racehorse and much to your chagrin, you’ve been enjoying it. Getting to go to tracks and wear a cute dress and hat has shaken up the monotony of the Indycar season. Now. you and Alex are on your way to one of the many tracks in Kentucky for yet another horse race. The kicker being that your parents are making a trip down to meet Alex.
“Do they think I’m old?” Alex asks as he glances over to you sitting in the passenger seat in the car. You and Alex are just about eight years apart, which isn’t necessarily a lot but him being in his thirties and you in your twenties makes the age gap seem bigger than it is.
“What? No, of course not.” You say scoffing at his absurd question, although it does stick in the back of your mind for the rest of the car ride.
Once the two of you arrive at the track, you make your bouts with Alex greeting familiar faces and checking on the horse, its trainer and jockey.
You have yet to see your parents given that the track is full of people dressed to the nines all milling about. Thankfully Mother Nature decided to be kind this weekend by holding off on the rain.
After more socializing, you finally spot your parents in the distance.
“Oh, there they are Alex.” You say nodding in the direction your parents are.
His face pales for a brief moment. He wants to make a very good impression on your parents and thankfully being at a race where he’s not the one racing puts his mind at ease. But still, meeting the parents is scary even for the grown man.
“They’ll love you.” You say reassuring Alex while lacing your hand with his pulling him towards your parents.
“There they are!” Your dad says, opening his arms for a hug. You hug him then your mom before stepping aside to properly introduce Alex. He extends his hand to give your parents a handshake but your mom instead chooses to give him a hug.
“We’ve heard so much about you Alex!” Your mom says beaming. “I’m so glad we finally get to meet you. You know, she can’t stop talking about you.” You roll your eyes at the typical mom phrase.
Before the race starts you all settle into your seats as the small talk continues. Things seem to be going better than you initially thought. Your dad and Alex bond over their love for Creed, thank goodness because that band is not your cup of tea no matter how hard Alex tries to get you to like them.
The momentum of the day doesn’t end there, your parents decided to take you and Alex out to dinner. And conversation continues to flow effortlessly. You haven’t seen your parents take a liking to a boyfriend of yours so easily before. Granted, in retrospect, those relationships were in a sense juvenile even though you had high hopes. You know how protective your parents are of you, especially since you’re their only kid.
As the night wraps up and you all go your respective ways, you can’t help but pick up the kind words your parents have to Alex.
“It’s been nice getting to know you, Alexander.” Your dad says giving Alex one of those masculine handshake-hugs. “Hopefully next time we’re out for a race, you’re the one on the track.”
“For sure, just let me know when and I’ll get you guys the whole VIP experience.” Alex says smiling, which he notably doesn’t do much around people.
“Job well done, my dear.” Your mom whispers into your ear as she gives you a hug.
