Ed Carpenter Racing to make driver change as Daly is dropped | IndyCar

Ed Carpenter Racing has parted ways with Conor Daly with more than half of the IndyCar season still remaining. The team announced it had “mutually” agreed the split with its driver, who lies 20th in the IndyCar championship standings after the first seven races. The number 20 car that was driven by Daly will continue to be entered in the championship for the remaining ten races of the season. ECR said it will confirm details of his replacement for next week’s race at Road America and beyond “in due course”. Daly drove team owner Ed Carpenter’s car for the road and steet course races through 2020 and ’21, and since last year has been racing full-time for the team as it expanded to three cars. He came 15th in last weekend’s race in Detroit, and one week before that finished eighth in the series’ blue riband event, the Indianapolis 500. The team said its other two cars – the full-time entry driven by Rinus VeeKay, and Carpenter’s part-time oval-only entry – are not affected by the decision to drop Daly. No reason for the split was given by the team. However Carpenter described it as “the most difficult decision I have made as a team owner because I respect Conor and know what he means to IndyCar and its fans”. “Our team has not been performing at the level we are capable of this year, and despite making technical changes and investments in the off-season, 2023 has been extremely challenging,” Carpenter continued. “I have put a great deal of consideration into the current state of our team and realise it is my obligation to our employees, partners, and supporters to do whatever is necessary to elevate our team’s competitiveness. “We sincerely wish Conor continued success and will cheer him on wherever he goes next.” Daly said: “I’d like to thank ECR for the past three-and-a-half seasons. “I’m grateful to everyone who has supported me – past, present and into the future. Penske Perfect and Details Matter are two phrases often used in conjunction with the Penske organization. And when they can be used to dunk on Ferrucci, all the better.

Josef is a perfectionist. This is a combo of his highly competitive nature - which has been said about him from a young age - and the Penske Perfect motto which he has taken to heart. He is highly critical of himself - getting very down on himself if he makes a mistake and taking the blame for things not wholly under his control. But he tried to maintain a genial if slightly arrogant image in public. He slips sometimes - there have been a few angry Twitter interactions that he later apologized for and on occasion after a race, his temper will get the better of him and he'll say things he probably shouldn't.

He can be goofy as hell as seen on Bus Bros. Scott McLaughlin has brought this out of him since becoming teammates. Josef has said that Scott makes him feel more comfortable being his real self.

I would be remiss if I did not point out Josef's thighs. He is a specimen in general but those thighs should get special attention.

RINUS VEEKAY - 2024 Big Machine Music City Grand Prix

Okay long post ahead:

I realized I never gave my thoughts on Iowa. First of all, I am very sad for James Roe, I really thought he had that, but I'm a big Louis Foster fan so congrats to him. Also why did the NXT race literally have like two green laps, that was so much yellow. On to Indycar, not the most exciting two races I've ever seen, and as these were the races I would have seen live if I had not had other plans this weekend, I was kinda okay with missing them. I'm sad for Colton obviously, but congrats to Scott Mclaughlin on his first oval win and becoming a "real Indycar driver" lol, and also congrats to Will Power on his win. I do hope Palou gets his first oval win at some point this season. I am so glad Rossi, Sting Ray, Ed Carpenter, and Kyle Kirkwood are okay. I am so thankful for the aeroscreen as that could have been so much worse.

Onto this weekend, as much as this pains me to say, Lando Norris's helmet looks so cool. Also at the time I am writing this part of the post, Perez has crashed again in qualifying, and I can't help but think about my post about not understanding the resign when the redbull is no longer the best car on the grid. Congrats to AIX on their first win of the F3 season; I don't mind either of their drivers and I'm very happy about Dino P3. I didn't watch the actual race or the F2 sprint, and I really don't plan on watching either of them, so my thoughts are limited to only the podium results lol. I'm not really a fan of anyone on the f2 sprint podium so no thoughts on that. (after reading other people's thought's I guess It was a good race, and now I'm sad I didn't see it.)

I hope Alexander Rossi's thumb recovers well, I am devastated about that. I was hoping Callum Ilott would be the replacement (I was also thinking Conor Daly just because Indy is so much closer to Toronto thank Europe, but Mclaren never makes the choices I think are logical), but for Theo to get another chance in the car is very cool. For proving himself for an Indycar seat next year, this is a great decision, however, I so badly want him to never interact with Zak Brown again in his life, he deserves so much better. Also I know he's still under contract or whatever, but this makes him look like he's running back to his toxic ex lol.

Lando Norris on pole is kinda annoying, but Oscar P2 let's go, we can win from that. Williams P13 and P14 is doable I can see points coming this weekend (I hope). Also The worst part of racing is that during the summer I'm so busy and I always miss stuff or have to watch replays like days later, but during the school year when I really don't have morning/daytime/day long plans, there's really no racing. I attempted to watch the first London ePrix, but was unsuccessful in finding a place to view it, but congrats to Pascal Wehrlein. Wish I could have seen it. Colton Herta on pole let's go. Kyle P2 so a full Andretti front row. I have high hopes for the race. Pato's pretty far down there, but we can work with that I guess.

Onto Sunday, the F3 race was alright. Not the most interesting race I've ever seen, and I'm also not really a Tsolov fan so I did not really care about the front. I wish either Mini or Browning had made it into the points to make things a bit more interesting. Also rip Lindblad's race. I saw Kimi Antonelli won before I started watching, my only spoiler for the day which was nice, good job by him. Rip Paul Aron's race, but other than that, it was a great race. I really enjoyed it. The F1 race made my blood pressure rise, oh my goodness. OSCAR PIASTRI WIN LET'S GOOOO!!!! I'm so happy for him. He did so great. Also, this just solidifies why I do not like Lando Norris. (Just to clarify, I'm not a team orders fan (I'm a huge Indycar fan let's be for real right now) I just am not a fan of his attitude). But anyway, I am so excited about Oscar's first win. The first of many, many wins I hope.

Why is the formula e London track so sick looking, oh my goodness. Teammate fighting seems to be the theme of the day. That was a crazy race. I love how chaotic formula e races are. I also love when championships come down to the final laps of the final race. Great job to Pascal Wehrlein. He did great this season from the few races I've seen.

Did I miss the memo about literally every car being orange in Indy this weekend??? Why are there so many orange cars. Shout out to the AMR safety team and the aeroscreen once again this weekend. Big crashes freak me out, so I'm glad everyone is okay. So many yellows and a red flag is crazy. Colton Herta won though! Let's go! and Kyle got P2! I am so happy! It was actually such a good race! Woohoo! Colton and Oscar winning on the same weekend let's go!

Okay so here’s the thing right, I get wanting to live out your dream of getting into formula 1 but at some point we all have to be realistic; like Palou and Pato, like they know they lowkey probably won’t be getting seats in F1 for a while or if ever right… they both accepted that and continue to do their best in IndyCar. But anyways we digress; now I feel like if your gonna make the move to IndyCar I understand wanting it to be with a top team but like seriously though dude that’s also kinda unrealistic, given the top teams are chip ganassi, Penske and Andretti. Maybe Arrow Mclaren. Right realistically only Zac has seen felipe drive, but he has already made his ‘24 lineup for IndyCar, even if he did think he was good enough for their team it’s to late now.

Now I want to give felipe the benefit of doubt and say he declined test driving for Ed carpenter, cause of a scheduling conflicts and not cause they are truly the alphaturi of IndyCar, (in my opinion) but like I love what Robert Shwartzman was talking about (I think a year ago in a interview) that if the opportunity to race came up somewhere else that he would take it cause you lose your talent not racing at all, that not only should apply to just Robert but all f1 reserve drivers who are just waiting around, now I feel like Felipe should have took that chance to test drive ed carpenter’s team car cause not only will it open a door to him but he could potentially get a good team to back him up right.

Now before any of y’all say that IndyCar isn’t a good enough open wheel sport to drive in, yes it is cause any open wheel sport is good to drive in if that what you want to do with your life. Not everyone has that luck Oscar Piastri did and got a seat after being a reserve driver for a year. Now there has always been this conflict of if IndyCar is good enough to have guys from f2 go there to drive instead of being reserved drivers and hope that you get the opportunity to drive In formula 1.

Now here’s my take on this. I think it’s better than just waiting for some kind of miracle to fucking happen and you get an f1 seat. Cause guess what it’s nearly impossible for f1 seats to open up in a team as it is but it’s also nearly impossible to have luck play out on your side and for you to get that seat; cause guess what even if we see lance leave f1 and we see a seat open up in Aston Martin, the chances of Felipe getting that seat are slim. Cause clearly every f1 team looks at various drivers and start to figure out what driver would work best for their team.

Now do I think Felipe should have taken this chance; yes, yes I do I think he’s dumb for not doing it, cause it can open a lot more doors for him, but like I said I want to give him the benefit of the doubt and say, his schedule just didn’t work with there’s or that he got a better opportunity somewhere else. But still I feel like you shouldn’t always sell yourself short and he’s doing that by at least not trying.

But ya know no one really knows what his doing other than himself so.

During The Off-Season, The Old Cincinnati Reds Had Some Curious Side Hustles

It’s coming on World Series time, yet again without the presence of the Cincinnati Reds. As the die-hard fans turn their attention to the hot-stove league or the minutia of their fantasy teams, few give a thought to how today’s players spend the off-season.

In the early 1900s, every professional baseball team enjoyed a post-season romp. The happy few battled it out for World Series honors. But the also-rans kept playing on barnstorming tours, competing with amateur or semi-pro teams for a week or two after the final official game. Once this last hurrah was done, the players scattered to their side hustles.

Not that they needed the money. Rookies earned something like $1,800 in 1900 while stars pulled down $4,000 or more, and those figures translate to $64,000 to $140,000 in today’s dollars. Usually their off-season jobs were an investment in the future, when the pro years ended. Winter jobs were often far removed from the skills required on the diamond.

Reds second baseman Ed Phelps, for example, spent his winters earning a degree in business. Bob Ewing, who pitched for the Reds from 1902 to 1909, scurried home to Wapakoneta each fall to oversee his farm devoted to breeding champion harness-racing horses. Charlie Chech lasted only four years in the majors, pitching in 1905 and 1906 for the Reds, so it’s a good thing he was able to work winters as a pharmacist in St. Paul. Jack Ryder of the Cincinnati Enquirer reported [26 October 1905]:

“Chech is a graduate of the pharmacy department of the University of Wisconsin and is a practical druggist. He has bought an interest in one of the leading drugstores of St. Paul and will spend the winter mixing prescriptions and selling the festive tooth brush, the dry, deceptive sponge and the innocuous drugstore cigar.”

Orval Overall pitched for Cincinnati in 1905 and 1906 and wintered in California, where he helped manage his family’s hotel and fruit ranch. John Barry wandered through Cincinnati twice during a decade in the majors, and spent the off-season coaching football at Niagara University, his alma mater.

Pitcher Tom Walker (1904-05) clerked winters in a Philadelphia clothing store and had a reputation for up-selling hand-me-down suits. According to the Cincinnati Post [2 December 1904]:

“Tom is said to be a wonder, and able to hand out a line of talk about ‘all wool and fast dye’ in a most convincing fashion.”

Miller Huggins was a local boy, who grew up in Walnut Hills and earned a law degree from the University of Cincinnati. After 13 years as a second baseman, he went on to manage the St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Yankees during their glory years in the Twenties. Throughout much of his career, Huggins partnered with Cliff Martin to run a tobacconist’s shop. Per the Enquirer [9 November 1907]:

“Miller Huggins is handling the festive coffin nail, the flagrant ‘two-fer,’ and the lordly ten-center, at his popular smokehouse on Fountain Square.”

Outfielder Fred Odwell’s four years in “The Bigs” were spent in Cincinnati, but his financial future lay in the Empire State. According to the Enquirer:

“Fred Odwell owns a large quarry at his home in Downsville, N.Y., which he superintends during the winter, while his brother looks after the work during the summer. The business is a paying one, and Oddie is well provided for when his ball-playing days are over.”

Apparently, the grass was greener working for Uncle Sam, because Odwell, after a stint as a real estate broker, landed an appointment as postmaster for Downsville.

Hans Lobert logged five years as an infielder for the Reds while he built houses as a carpenter and contractor in Pittsburgh over the winter months. The Reds made something of a fuss about one of their 1907-08 pitchers, Andy Coakley, attending dental school on the East Coast, but it didn’t take. Coakley spent most of his post-playing career running a New York insurance agency while coaching baseball at Columbia University. In that collegiate gig, Coakley discovered a slugger named Lou Gehrig, so he had that going for him.

For a couple of years, the Reds had an actual doctor on the team, but he may not have been much use if a teammate was injured. Doctor Frank “Noodles” Hahn was a veterinarian, specializing in horses and cattle. While pitching for Cincinnati, Hahn enrolled in the Cincinnati Veterinary College. From 1900 until 1919, Cincinnati was home to its very own veterinary school, organized and operated by a consortium of local animal doctors. Noodles did so well in class that he was recruited after graduation to join the faculty of the college and taught there for several years.

A native of Nashville, Hahn confessed that he had no idea how he earned his distinctive nickname, although he had been called “Noodles” since he was a young boy. Hahn landed a pitching spot in the minors when he was just 16 years old and was recruited by the Reds in 1899 before he turned 20. Hahn’s rookie year was one for the record books as he won 23 games while losing only 8, posting a 2.68 ERA. Over seven seasons with the Reds, Hahn racked up 127 wins and 92 losses although he pitched for some decidedly lackluster Cincinnati squads. On 12 July 1900, Hahn hurled a no-hitter against the powerful Philadelphia Phillies and later struck out 16 Boston batters in one game. Problem was, the Reds never ranked higher than fourth in the National League during Hahn’s time in Cincinnati. After several seasons in which he averaged 300 innings, Hahn’s arm gave out. He limped through a half-season with the New York Highlanders, then decided to find another line of work.

It appears that old Noodles could have chosen a couple of careers. The Washington Post [17 June 1906] declared Hahn the best piano player in baseball. There was talk he might have pursued music professionally.

It was large animal veterinary work that finally won out. For a while, Hahn coached and pitched for some semi-pro teams, but he spent decades as a federal meat inspector in Cincinnati. Until he was over 70 years old, Hahn kept a locker at Crosley field. He would visit the ballpark on game day, work out with the team and pitch batting practice, then change back into his business clothes to watch the game. When the Terrace Plaza opened an ice-skating rink on the eighth floor, septuagenarian Noodles Hahn was there, showing off his fancy technique. He died, aged 80, at his retirement home in North Carolina.

a/n: partly inspired by the song because i liked a boy by sabrina carpenter! lmao i might get a little mean writing this but just know i love eddie so much, its just for the sake of the story x

you were on cloud nine. eddie and you have been dating for about 3 months now and it was almost everything you’ve wished for. almost. the rumours and accusations about eddie were still up in the air and they were not going away. it was a mutual decision to not let everyone from school know about your relationship and only your closest group of friends of steve, robin, nancy, jonathan and arygle know. oh and dustin and his friends.

at first it wasn’t hard, you and eddie were in the same friend group so it was not suspicious to anyone. but as time goes by, you were antsy. you wanted to kiss your boyfriend, to hold his hand, makeout with him without having to be afraid whether someone was going to catch you two in the act. ‘darling… we’re happy right? you like being in a relationship with me?’ eddie asked out of nowhere while you two were hanging out in his trailer.

‘eds, of course i do. i’ve never been happier’ you put your hand on top of his while giving a small smile. ‘then why do we have to keep hiding? i know we decided not to make it public…but i don’t know, i just wanna show off my girlfriend you know’ he set his beer down and hold both your hands in his while rubbing his thumb along your hands.

you gave it some thought, ‘okay, we’ll do it. we’ll make it public. i want to be able to show off my boyfriend too’ you see eddie’s face lit up and he leans in to kiss you. you two slept happy that night, excited about tomorrow, finally being able to tell everyone you’re dating.

‘you ready?’ eddie took the first step today by driving you to school so both of you would be seen walking into school together.

as soon as you entered hawkins high, people were already staring, and not in a ‘omg look at those two! they’re dating!’, its more like ‘ew, the freak has a girlfriend? someone save her’ kind of stare.

both of your hands started to sweat and you and eddie looked at each other wide eyed, he’s definitely thinking well this is going great.

your body eases as you two spot steve, robin and nancy and the rest. you walked over to them hand in hand, too afraid to let go now.

‘i see you two finally made it public’ steve moves his eyebrows up and down while pointing out that you two are holding hands.

‘yeah well, 5 minutes in and we already got daggers coming our way’, the 5 of you turn around to see people still staring and whispering.

‘just ignore them, they have nothing better to do other than judging people who are just minding their own business’ nancy squints her eyes at the people staring and they immediately look away. that girl is a keeper. this was the true test of your relationship, to see if this will make or break it. you looked up at eddie as he’s talking to the group, his eyes twinkle at steve’s remarks, his laughter erupts at robins jokes and you knew no matter how many pins and needles try to penetrate the eddie-y/n bubble you have created together, you will stick by each other, and it seemed as if steve, nancy and robin would go back to the upside down if it means their bestfriends could be together.

as lunch approaches, your heart races. the whole school is going to be in the cafeteria. what would happen when you and eddie walk in with his hand around your shoulders? that question was answered the moment you two walked through the doors, people were still staring and the whispers never get any softer.

once you reach a table, jason carver and his balls in laundry baskets crew walk up.

‘oooh, looks like the freak has found himself a pretty girl’ eddie starts clenching his fists ready to knock jason out. you reached out and put your hand over his and he softens his hands . jason bends down to whisper to you but loud enough for eddie to hear ‘maybe when the freaks turn is over, we can have a good time’ he winks and eddie launches off the table ready to start a war. steve holds him back and jason just smirks and walks off while giving the finger.

you felt like you were about to cry, not only because you just got harassed by jason but also because making it known that you’re dating eddie might not be the best idea. you wanted to go to the bathroom and just scream but before you could even get up, you hear shouting ‘eddie you really are a freak! how did a girl like her end up with someone like you!’, ‘maybe she’s the slut for dating someone like him!’, ‘huh how ironic, a slut and a freak, they’re the perfect match!’ laughter erupts throughout the cafeteria. the hellfire club rushes to your table and tries to block the noise. you held on to eddie tighter and a tear rolls down your cheek. you could not do it anymore, you got up and rushed to the nearest bathroom.

‘look at the slut go!’, ‘boyfriend too much of a pussy to even stand up for her’, ‘not only a freak anymore munson, but also a major pussy! you should probably just kill yourself’ that’s all the things you hear as you rushed out of the cafeteria.

‘all of you just shut the fuck up, for fucks sake’ steve slammed his hands against the tables while the rest of the group rushes off to find you. ‘all of you need your ego’s in check’ dustin rolls his eyes.

eddie felt like a coward. he couldn’t say anything when people were talking shit about his girlfriend. he felt guilty and thought to himself, am i really a bad boyfriend? should i actually just unalive myself? maybe the demobats can help me. he shook off those thoughts and tried to find you. he hears sobbing and swings open the door, not caring that its a girl bathroom.

‘y/n, baby, are you in here?’ eddie sees you curling up in the corner of a stall. ‘eddie…this is the girls bathroom’ you still tried to crack a joke between sobs.

‘sweetheart, i’m so sorry for not saying anything back there. i feel like such an ass. you don’t deserve to have all those awful things said about you. you are beautiful and you are the sweetest person i’ve ever met’ he says now tearing up while wiping the tears off your cheek.

‘i love you eds. i’m so sorry for what they said back there. you have a reason to live okay? we all love you and want you around’ you give eddie a quick peck while the both of you stood up.

‘holy shit, im out of breath, are you guys okay?’ robin was panting and everyone had a worried look on their face.

‘we’re okay. thanks guys for being there and thanks steve for saying something man’ eddie pats steves arm while everyone came together for a group hug. times like this are where you appreciate for having a group of friends like them.

its been a week and the whispers have died down but the stares have not. you and eddie pretend like you guys don’t see it for both of your sake but you can’t help feeling like there’s a burning hole at the back of your head. you and eddie have been doing everything you guys can to not talk about it and just keep living your life. but every night, when eddie’s not around, you cry and scream into your pillow. you love eddie, with everything in you, you would not trade this relationship for anything. but this relationship had taken its toll on you and maybe eddie too. ever since you guys made it public, you cried more and eddie drank and smoked more. it has become an unhealthy coping mechanism and you did not want to keep up with it or let eddie drown himself like this.

‘babe, you wanna meet after school? i’ll drive you home’, you looked at eddie and you felt like crying. he was so lovely and you adored everything about him but you knew the step you had to take. to make everything normal again.

you nodded and decided that you were gonna have to talk to him later. ‘i’ll see you at 2 love’ you gave a quick peck before going to class.

eddie drove you home in his van. it did not help that the van had the word ‘freak’ spray painted across it but eddie did not have the money to get it fixed so it’s there forever now probably, which just sucks and its being used as a daily reminder that this town hates him.

once you reached your place, you decided to invite eddie in. your palms were sweaty and your heartbeat picks up its pace. you went in the kitchen to grab drinks and also cool off your nerves.

‘thanks sweetheart. sooo, how was your day? you feeling better?’ thats the 100th time you hear that question ever since that incident. you lied everytime and said you’re fine but this time, you don’t think you could lie anymore.

‘i’m not fine love, and i know you’re not too.’ you sigh, taking a deep breath before continuing while taking his hands in yours. ‘this past few weeks have been tough, we both know we can survive anything, but at what cost? we try so hard to stick by one another but inside, we’re just falling apart and it’s affecting us. eddie anthony munson, i love you and i will till my very last breath but i cannot continue with this if it’s affecting our mental health.’ with every word you say, eddie’s eyes gets more and more teary. he knew you guys are having a hard time but to this extent? to wanting to break up? it felt like his worst nightmare.

‘y/n, baby, i know we’ve been going through a hard time but we can make it work. we always do. tell me what i can do to fix it, i’ll do anything my love’ he said through choked sobs. he was full on having a breakdown. eddie was a fixer. he did anything and everything he could to make you the happiest girl in the world. one time, when you were having the worst cramps, he came over to build a fort with you and binge watch all your favourite movies. he even skipped work to be with you when you had a panic attack. it hit you that maybe he’s not going to be there through all those times again but you already made up your mind.

‘you’ll do anything? okay…then you need to let me go eds. we’ll always love each other and nothing will change that but we cannot be together, not when we turned out like this’ you couldn’t even face him anymore and you knew your eyes would be puffy by the next morning.

he lifts your chin up and wipe your tears ‘if that’s what you want, i’ll do it. you know i love you so much and im always here’ he points to your heart and rest his hand on it. with one last kiss, he leaves your house. now, the house is more empty than ever but so is your heart.

you skipped school the next few days and so does eddie. during those days, you removed every part of him in your room. the shirts, the rings, the polaroids and the love letters. you were a crying mess and you couldn’t even leave the room.

when you arrive in school, you see eddie with his hellfire club friends. he looked…..happy. he has his hellfire shirt on, tucked in his ripped jeans with his hair let down. you smiled to yourself. he looks so happy laughing with his friends talking about the next campaign that will happen. you see steve, robin and nancy and walk towards them.

‘y/n, im so sorry, i heard about you and eddie, i tried calling but you didn’t pick up’ the 3 of them came to give you a big hug. no, not now y/n, don’t let the tears fall.

‘thank you guys, i’m better than i was a few days ago, sorry if i made you guys worry’ you felt comfort in their arms. you really couldn’t ask for better friends.

eddie looked at you from far away. even with puffy eyes, you still looked adorable. he wishes he could come over and kiss you but he can’t, not anymore. but you guys were still friends right?

‘hey y/n….how are you? you look great’, eddie walked awkwardly towards you with his hands in his pockets.

‘eds hey, im good, you look good too’ you fold your arms infront of you while the other 3 was just staring at this very tense and awkward exchange. both of you just smiled at each other and parted ways. things may never be the same again but you didn’t lose each other completely and that was the least you could ask for.

you know what’s the most painful thing about a breakup? not when it’s full of anger, resentment or hatred but its when you still have so much love and adoration for that person, seeing them grow, knowing all the things they can achieve and then seeing them achieve those things without you.
