20 Questions for Fic Writers
I was tagged by @7-percent, @totallysilvergirl and @gaylilsherlock. Thank you!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
147. I’ve been here nearly 6 years, some years more prolific than others.
2. What's your total A03 word count?
Right now, just shy of 2M: 1,937,496, to be exact
3. What fandoms do you write for?
BBC Sherlock and ACD Sherlock
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
Synchronicity Date Night A Chronic Condition The Wedding Gift Blank Slate Wooing Sherlock Holmes has recently moved up and is close enough to nudge its way to number 5.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Always, even if it’s just to say thank you. I appreciate comments, often feel humbled by the compliments people give. It just feels right to respond. (Maybe if I were getting hundreds of comments a day, I would have to rethink that.)
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Either Below Zero or The New Gardener. Both have MCD, but sort of a soft landing. Also Learning the Heart and The Real You, but those also have endings that mitigate the angst, a bit.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I write a lot of happy endings; it’s my preferred resolution. My choice: The Short Tragic Death of John Watson. John does NOT die, but there’s a very cheesy happy ending that made many readers scream.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
No. A couple rude comments, but no intentional hatred.
9. Do you write smut?
Not much. I don’t write PWP, but include a sex scene where the plot seems to need it. I'm not opposed; it's just not my usual.
10. Do you write crossovers?
I’ve written two GO/Sherlock stories: Limbo and Hell and Back. I’ve written stories that borrow from other fandoms, but are not exactly crossovers. The closest to a crossover would be Serendipity, which borrows plot from the movie. I’ve borrowed from movie and book universes to make an original story (Eye of the Storm, A Chamber to be Haunted, Do No Harm), and I’ve borrowed premises (The Real You)
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not to my knowledge.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
About 60 of my fics have been translated, most of them into Russian, a couple into Chinese, on into Spanish.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
The Secret of Agra: a post-Reichenbach fic that I started in 2020. It has been through several transformations. I rarely give up permanently on a story, though. A few have grown into something new that I ended up posting. I expect I'll finish this when inspiration strikes me.
16. What are your writing strengths?
The things readers most often compliment me on:
Character voice and emotions.
World building.
Versatility: historical fiction, case fics, science fiction, fantasy, rom-coms, etc.
Making readers cry.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Action scenes. In Greek tragedy you simply have a character enter and describe the murder that’s just occurred offstage. In fanfiction, that’s a nope. And you have to think out every move, make the scene visual. I admire writers who make this seem effortless. (That's you, @discordantwords !!!) Description: finding non-cliche ways to describe things/people without making it weird and overly fussy. Being too minimal: I am not a wordy writer; minimalism was how I was taught, but sometimes I need to be wordier.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I’ve done bits of this, but only in languages I’ve studied. I have a degree in Latin, and have used that in couple stories: A Demon's Tale, Accidental Magic.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
The first and only fandom I’ve posted in is Sherlock Holmes (ACD and BBC). I don’t have any plans to move. I used to write original fiction, but have found fanfiction so much more rewarding.
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
This is hard to answer. Last Envoy is the story I’m most proud of. I write the stories I want to read, and I do re-read a number of them, some more than others. My favorite fic written in 2023 is The Traveller.
Has everybody been tagged? How about @mydogwatson @lisbeth-kk @discordantwords @copperplatebeech @keirgreeneyes @meetinginsamarra @bertytravelsfar @jrow @thegildedbee @helloliriels @gregorovitchworld ???

3. Best Time to Visit the Taj Mahal
When planning a visit to the Taj Mahal, timing can greatly enhance your experience at this architectural wonder. The best time to visit the Taj Mahal is during the cooler months, specifically from October to March. During this period, temperatures are pleasantly mild, making it more comfortable to explore the sprawling grounds and intricate details of the monument without the sweltering heat of the summer sun.
Early morning is particularly magical, as the first rays of sunlight cast a gentle glow over the white marble, creating a stunning play of light that makes the Taj Mahal appear almost ethereal. Arriving at sunrise not only allows you to witness this breathtaking spectacle but also gives you the chance to enjoy a quieter experience before the crowds arrive. The peaceful ambiance of the early hours, coupled with the soft sounds of nature, sets the perfect tone for your visit.
Alternatively, visiting during the late afternoon or just before sunset can also be enchanting. The changing colors of the sky as the sun dips below the horizon create a striking backdrop for the monument, allowing for some truly spectacular photographs. This time of day captures the Taj Mahal in hues of pinks and oranges, offering a different yet equally mesmerizing perspective.
While the weekends and public holidays may bring larger crowds, planning your visit during the weekdays can provide a more relaxed experience. Additionally, consider checking the lunar calendar for full moon nights, as the Taj Mahal is open for night viewing on select evenings. Experiencing the Taj Mahal bathed in moonlight is a unique and unforgettable experience that should not be missed.
In summary, whether you choose to visit during the crisp mornings or the enchanting evenings of the cooler months, the Taj Mahal promises a magical experience that showcases its beauty in all its glory. Make sure to plan your trip accordingly, and you’ll find yourself immersed in the grandeur of this iconic monument.

8. Exploring Agra: Must-See Attractions Beyond the Taj Mahal
While the Taj Mahal undoubtedly steals the spotlight as Agra’s crown jewel, the city offers a treasure trove of attractions that are equally deserving of your attention. As you journey through Agra, prepare to delve into its rich cultural tapestry and historical significance — starting with the awe-inspiring Agra Fort. This UNESCO World Heritage site, a mere stone’s throw from the Taj Mahal, boasts stunning red sandstone architecture and intricate marble inlays. As you wander through its sprawling courtyards and splendid palaces, you can almost hear the echoes of Mughal emperors who once held court within its walls.
Next on your itinerary should be the serene Itimad-ud-Daulah’s Tomb, often referred to as the “Baby Taj.” This exquisite mausoleum, built in honor of the father of Emperor Jahangir, showcases delicate carvings and inlaid work that rival the grandeur of its more famous counterpart. The surrounding gardens provide a tranquil oasis, perfect for leisurely strolls and photo opportunities.
For those interested in a taste of local life, the bustling streets of Agra offer vibrant markets filled with colorful textiles, handcrafted goods, and, of course, the famous Agra petha — an irresistible sweet treat made from ash gourd. Don’t miss the chance to sample this local delicacy and pick up unique souvenirs to commemorate your visit.
Lastly, consider a visit to the picturesque Mehtab Bagh, a garden complex that offers one of the best views of the Taj Mahal, especially at sunset. This peaceful retreat, located across the Yamuna River, allows you to appreciate the monument’s beauty from a different perspective while enjoying a moment of reflection amidst lush greenery.

If you prefer Mughlai flavors, head to **Joney’s Place**, where you can savor tender kebabs and rich biryanis, cooked to perfection with aromatic spices that echo the historical richness of the region.
No visit to Agra is complete without experiencing the culinary marvel of the **Mughlai Thali**. For this, **Bikanervala** is a must-visit. Their thali comes brimming with a variety of dishes, from creamy butter chicken to tangy dal makhani, all served alongside freshly baked naan and fragrant rice.
For dessert, don’t miss out on a visit to **Nazeer Foods**, renowned for its mouth-watering **Taj Mahal cake**, a sweet tribute to the monument itself. The combination of flavors will leave your taste buds dancing and create a perfect end to your culinary adventure.
As you explore Agra, remember that food is an integral part of the cultural experience. So take the time to enjoy the local cuisine, and allow the flavors of Agra to linger long after your visit to the Taj Mahal.
10. Cultural Etiquette: What to Know Before You Go
When embarking on your journey to the iconic Taj Mahal, it’s essential to immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Indian culture and adhere to local etiquette. Understanding and respecting these cultural nuances will not only enhance your experience but also showcase your appreciation for the heritage of this breathtaking monument.
**Dress Modestly:** India is a diverse country with various customs and traditions, and modesty in attire is valued, especially when visiting religious or historical sites. For both men and women, it’s advisable to wear clothing that covers your shoulders and knees. Lightweight, breathable fabrics are ideal for the warm climate, while a scarf can be a versatile accessory for women to drape over their heads when needed.
**Footwear Considerations:** As you approach the Taj Mahal, you’ll notice that visitors are required to remove their shoes before entering certain areas of the site. Wearing comfortable footwear that is easy to slip off will make this process hassle-free. Consider bringing a pair of flip-flops or slip-on shoes to facilitate this.
**Respect Local Customs:** The Taj Mahal is not just an architectural marvel; it is also a revered site for many. Speak softly and maintain a respectful demeanor while exploring the grounds. Avoid loud conversations or disruptive behavior that may disturb others, and be mindful of where you take photos — some areas may have restrictions.
**Photography Etiquette:** While capturing the beauty of the Taj Mahal is a must, it’s important to be considerate of other visitors. When taking photos, avoid blocking paths or intruding on others’ experiences. Additionally, be cautious when photographing local vendors or residents; always ask for permission first to ensure you respect their privacy.
**Be Mindful of the Environment:** The Taj Mahal is as much about its surroundings as it is about the monument itself. Littering is frowned upon, so make use of designated trash bins to keep the area clean. By being a responsible visitor, you contribute to the preservation of this UNESCO World Heritage Site for future generations.
**Engage with Local Guides:** Hiring a local guide can provide you with valuable insights into the history and significance of the Taj Mahal. Engage with them respectfully, and be open to their suggestions and stories. They can enrich your understanding of the monument and its cultural heritage.
By embracing these cultural etiquettes, you will not only show respect for the local traditions but also elevate your experience at the Taj Mahal. As you stand in awe of this majestic wonder, you’ll gain a deeper appreciation for its history and the vibrant culture that surrounds it. So, prepare yourself to not just see, but to truly experience the Taj Mahal in all its glory.
11. Capturing the Perfect Photos at the Taj Mahal
Visiting the Taj Mahal is not just a feast for the eyes; it’s an opportunity to capture stunning photographs that will immortalize your experience at this UNESCO World Heritage site. To ensure you get the best shots, it’s essential to plan your photography strategy ahead of time.
The early morning hours, just after sunrise, offer a magical ambiance where the soft golden light bathes the marble mausoleum, creating a breathtaking backdrop. Arriving early not only allows you to avoid the crowds but also provides the perfect conditions for capturing the intricate details of the Taj’s architecture, like the delicate carvings and inlaid gemstones that adorn its surface.
Seek out unique angles and perspectives to make your photos stand out. The view from the reflecting pool, where the Taj Mahal is mirrored in the water, is iconic. Don’t forget to explore the lush gardens surrounding the monument, which provide a beautiful foreground for your shots. The vibrant flowers and neatly trimmed hedges create an enchanting contrast to the white marble of the Taj.
Consider experimenting with different times of day; the golden hour at sunset adds a warm glow to your photos, while the blue hour just after sunset casts a serene ambiance. If you’re feeling adventurous, try using a drone to capture aerial shots, offering a new perspective that showcases the grandeur of the Taj Mahal and its surroundings.
Lastly, remember to include yourself and your travel companions in the frame. Capture candid moments of joy and awe as you explore this magnificent site together — these personal touches will make your photos even more memorable.
With these tips in mind, you’ll be well-equipped to capture the essence of the Taj Mahal, ensuring that your memories — and your photographs — are as breathtaking as the monument itself.
12. Tips for Beating the Crowds
Visiting the Taj Mahal is undoubtedly a bucket-list experience, but with its immense popularity comes the challenge of navigating large crowds. To make the most of your visit and enjoy this architectural wonder in relative peace, here are some essential tips for beating the crowds.
First and foremost, timing is everything. Aim to arrive early in the morning, ideally before the gates open at sunrise. The soft morning light not only enhances the beauty of the Taj Mahal but also allows you to stroll through the gardens and enjoy the monument with fewer visitors around. Alternatively, consider a late afternoon visit, when many day-trippers have already left, giving you a more serene experience as the sun begins to set.
Weekday visits are another effective strategy. If your schedule allows, plan your trip for a Tuesday or Wednesday — these days often see fewer tourists compared to weekends. Additionally, avoid major holidays and local festivals when the site is likely to be particularly crowded.
When you arrive, consider taking advantage of guided tours that offer early access. These tours often provide special entry times that allow you to explore the Taj Mahal before the general public arrives. Not only will you beat the crowds, but you’ll also gain insights from knowledgeable guides who can share fascinating stories and historical context about this iconic site.
While you’re there, explore the surrounding gardens and pathways, which offer beautiful views of the Taj Mahal from different angles. This not only helps you avoid the main tourist throngs at the entrance but also gives you a chance to capture stunning photographs without people in the frame.
Finally, be patient and embrace the experience. While encountering large groups can be overwhelming, remember that the beauty of the Taj Mahal is worth the wait. Take your time, find a quiet corner to sit and reflect, and let the majestic structure truly captivate you. By following these tips, you’ll create lasting memories while enjoying one of the world’s most breathtaking landmarks in a more tranquil setting.
13. Safety Tips for Your Car Tour
When embarking on a car tour to the Taj Mahal from Delhi, ensuring your safety is paramount. The journey is as beautiful as the destination, but being well-prepared can make your experience even more enjoyable. Here are some essential safety tips to keep in mind:
1. **Vehicle Maintenance**: Before hitting the road, ensure your vehicle is in top condition. Check tire pressure, fluid levels, brakes, and lights. A quick inspection can prevent unexpected breakdowns.
2. **Navigation Preparedness**: While GPS and navigation apps are incredibly helpful, be sure to download offline maps in case you enter areas with poor connectivity. Familiarize yourself with the route ahead of time, noting any key landmarks or road signs.
3. **Emergency Kit**: Always have an emergency kit in your car. This should include a first-aid kit, water, non-perishable snacks, a flashlight, a spare tire, and basic tools. In case of an emergency, these supplies can be invaluable.
4. **Stay Alert**: Long drives can lead to fatigue. Ensure you take regular breaks to stretch, hydrate, and refresh. Switching drivers, if possible, can also help maintain alertness.
5. **Secure Your Belongings**: Keep your valuables out of sight to deter theft, especially when making stops along the way. Use the trunk for bags and equipment, and always lock your car when leaving it unattended.
6. **Know the Local Laws**: Familiarize yourself with traffic rules in the area, including speed limits and seat belt regulations. It’s also wise to be aware of local customs and practices, especially when driving in rural areas.
7. **Plan for Weather Conditions**: Check the weather forecast before your trip. Rain, fog, or extreme heat can affect driving conditions. Adjust your travel plans accordingly and always drive cautiously in adverse weather.
8. **Stay Connected**: Inform a friend or family member about your travel plans. Share your itinerary and check in with them at regular intervals. This simple step adds an extra layer of safety.
By keeping these safety tips in mind, you can focus on the breathtaking landscapes and rich history surrounding the Taj Mahal, making your car tour from Delhi an unforgettable adventure. Safe travels!
14. Visitor Information: Ticket Prices and Opening Hours
When planning your visit to the iconic Taj Mahal, it’s essential to be well-informed about ticket prices and opening hours to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience. The Taj Mahal is open to visitors every day except Fridays, which are reserved for prayers. The monument welcomes guests from sunrise to sunset, allowing you to witness its ethereal beauty in the soft glow of the morning or the warm hues of the evening.
As for ticket prices, there are different rates for Indian citizens and foreign tourists. Indian visitors can enjoy the grandeur of the Taj Mahal for a nominal fee, while international tourists will find the entrance cost slightly higher, reflecting the global significance of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Children below the age of 15 are granted free entry, making it an ideal destination for families. Additionally, there’s a nominal charge for accessing the main mausoleum, which is highly recommended to truly appreciate the intricate craftsmanship and stunning interior.
To avoid long queues, it’s advisable to purchase your tickets online in advance. This not only saves you time but also allows you to plan your visit more effectively. When arriving at the site, expect a thorough security check, so it’s best to arrive early and be mindful of the items you carry. With your tickets in hand and a sense of anticipation in your heart, you’ll be ready to embark on a journey through history, witnessing the splendor of the Taj Mahal, a testament to love and architectural brilliance.
15. Conclusion: Making the Most of Your Taj Mahal Experience

To truly make the most of your Taj Mahal experience, consider planning your visit around the quieter hours of the day, ideally at sunrise or sunset, when the soft light casts a magical glow over the monument, enhancing its ethereal beauty.

"Solo Journeys in India: Navigating the Transport Tapestry via tuk-tuks, trains and planes….”
Welcome to Dr. Mary Travelbest’s 5 Steps to Solo Travel Guide for women like you who need extra support traveling the world (slowly), one woman at a time.
Please rate this podcast and the Amazon book series, especially Part B on Destinations!
I’ve been traveling solo since 1972 and writing about it since 1993. Now you can experience the Top Selling Book Series: 5 Steps to Solo Travel, a Woman’s Guide to Travel and Destinations in Her Prime, found on Amazon. I recently took a 90-day trip around the world, and this is a special episode on Indian transportation for the solo female.
What are the challenges faced by solo female travelers in India? How can they navigate the transportation system in India? What are the travel tips for exploring India's transport networks as a solo female traveler?
This particular podcast edition is about the "Roads Less Traveled, including a few Solo Female Travel Tips for Exploring India's Transport Networks"
There was a massive train crash while I was in India, and many people were tragically killed. The people I was staying with had friends on those trains, but they were ok. Many of my family members contacted me across the miles to see if I was ok, as it was world news. See the show notes for more on train accidents.
https://www.indiatvnews.com/news/india/yearender-2023-tragic-accidents-in-2023-road-rail-accidents-odisha-coromandel-express-andhra-pradesh-train-collision-tragedy-latest-updates-2023-12-22-908419
The world’s largest populated country has transportation challenges. Corruption, bureaucracy, and red tape are also issues. Corrupted officials leverage their control over permits to line their pockets. Income equality is massive. The wealthiest 10% makes up almost 60% of India's income. The future looks brighter.
One airline, Go First, went out of business after I bought my ticket in May 2023. I cannot get a refund because the airline is bankrupt and, therefore, will not honor any purchases of their flights, nor will the ticket agency through which I bought it.
https://www.hindustantimes.com/business/go-first-gets-two-financial-bids-as-part-of-its-bankruptcy-process-101708754354934.html
I arrived in Chennai from a flight originating in Cambodia and transferred through Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I spent 8 hours in the airport, talking to people from all over the world. Here is a rundown of the travel I did over two weeks in six cities in India.
When going through airport security, you must be on an all-female line. Men and women are not allowed to go through together.
The same thing happened when I went to the Taj Majal. Separate security stations were established, and I even hit my head on that going through, as I am 5’ 10’, so I am taller than most other women.
Overall, I made many transportation mistakes, but they were all to help you make a better trip next time.
My travel mistakes in India: I was lied to by a taxi driver, had a driver with no shoes and no change, got scammed in the main Delhi train station, and had trouble finding a bus to Agra.

Yeah I think the concept of a lizard brain is so cool. It's like our brain is a tree and with with (evolutionary) time, it also gains rings (layers). The most basic works from when we were fish, then more on top of that for the first amniotes (including lizards), then more from that when mammals split off, then even more still as humans arose.
I think it's really interesting.
The lizard-brain is called that because lizards haven't changed much to it since it evolved. But birds have been building on it just as long as we have and theirs is different while being similar and then it's like: how do birds perceive the world and their surroudings? And it's even crazier if you go further back. I think mammals relatively have similar cognition to us it's just differences in degree not type.
But even then!!!!
Cetaceans (whales-dolphins-porpoises) live in such a different manner to us. They must have different mental maps and thus inner worlds and they're still mammals! Bats too but I think to a lesser degree.
But if you go further back in the tree of life and follow it down a different branch, cephalopods are the most intelligent invertebrates by far!!! Their consciousness isn't even concentrated in a brain like all vertebrates. It's spread out throughout their bodies with only about 1/3 of their neurons being centered in what we would call a brain. Like to an extent, their arms and legs can think!!!! That's so crazy to me. They're truly aliens and it's an absolute tragedy they are so short lived. Intelligence works better on longer lived animals (elephants, humans, cetaceans) because you can build on what you've experienced and create wisdom. But they only live at most a single decade (carita triste). I don't know what my point was.
Good book, I like your notes (other mammals).
-
"This part of our brain is similar to the brains of lizards, birds, and lower mammals. Our lizard brain only understands survival and protection."
My initial thought was an objection to the language choice "lower mammals". I think reinforcing hierarchical views towards our earthly siblings reinforces our soul-wound as well.
-
I was hanging out with my friend Alex in early December and we started talking about our relationship to the earth.
His father exposed his son to a practice of relationship to the earth based on dominance. His father narrowed his masculinity to dominance over the earth through grand displays of physical prowess. The Earth was something to be conquered through athleticism. I think this is a type of masculinity that can be found in the settler-colonialism of rural New-Hampshire.
He told me it wasn't until recently that he began to feel a presence from his plants and that it took him time to feel the presence of his roommates cat. We may cognitively know we are in the presence of another being, but to feel their presence, it requires the sensations of the body and our lizard brain allowing us their cognitive awareness.
I think what my friend experiences is a form of displacement from his nervous system. I imagine his father taught his lizard brain to deny the cognitive brain the opportunity to life life rooted in the experience of having a body. I think this because I think our bodies are first aware of other beings because our soul-nerve dictates what information raches our cognitive brain.
-
Americans have learned to experience the earth through metaphors and constructions of of industrialization. This alienates our bodies from the land and other creatures. This makes it normal to establish that there are 'lower creatures'. The establishment of such heirarchies allow us to turn the matter of displacing populations of other beings a standard operating business practice.
.
Cuando fui al mercado entre semana. Pase tiempo grabando a los pajaritos que llegaban a comer las migas. Note como se acercaban a la gente.

Hello! Some people might know this monument as one of The Seven Wonders of the world. It is the "Taj Mahal"
- don't read further if you love the "love story" Of Shah Jahan and Mumtaj
I really admire this monument. It is very beautiful. It is a wonderful monument and pride to our India🇮🇳
But I can't really accept when people say that this is the "symbol of true love" and shit like that.
BECAUSE!!!
(Warning⚠⚠ don't read further if you believe in the "true love" of the great Shah Jahan and Mumtaj
I WARN YOU)
Okay, as I was saying. If you believed or made to believe "oh! Shah Jahan is the best lover in the world! Oh! How lovely of him to build an entire monument for his beloved wife. Shah Jahan and Mumtaj are the best couple. It's a tragedy that she died" and blah blah blah....
Then, Your life has been a GODDAMNED LIE
I'll tell you why BUT BEFORE THAT these boys should stop saying
"Shah Jahan has built Taj Mahal for his wife. But has any girl did anything for their lover? Boys are always the one that sacrifices every thing for his girl. Oh god! These girls are always cheating on boys. Girls are just gold diggers"
(👆these kind of dialogues are found in very dramatic and cringy love failure indian movies)
OH GOD PLEASE STOP! Y'all should stop this shit.....what I'm about to say might shock you (or maybe not)
And I am going to reveal some dark things about this monument..
The first point - Shah Jahan had ten wives excluding Mumtaj
Quandahari Begum was his first wife. She gave birth to two daughters from Shah Jahan.
She is buried in Qandahari bagh in agra built by her in 1628. She was very close to Shah Jahan after Mumtaz Mahals death even becoming his constant companion during his time in prison in his last years.
Princess Manbhavati Bajji Lal Sahiba was his second wife. She had one daughter.
Arjumand Bano Begum aka Mumtaz Mahal was his third wife. She died while giving birth to their daughter Gauhar Banu Begum and is buried in Taj Mahal
Akbarabadi Mahal also known as Izz un Nissa Begum was fourth wife of Shah Jahan. She gave birth to a son
Fatehpuri Mahal was fifth wife of Shah Jahan. She built Fatehpuri Mosque. She was a companion in Shah Jahan's old age and prison life.
Sixth wife was Qudisa Begum
Seventh wife was Rajkumari Lilavati baiji Lal Sahiba daughter of Rao Shri Sakath Singh
Eight wife was Sarhinidi Begum
Muti Begum sahiba
Widow of Jamal Khan a Mansabdar of mughal empire
Some article states that he had only 2 wives before Mumtaj. But there is whole list of wives in the internet
- AND, I just found this:
Mughal rulers that is Akbar and his son Jahangir and Jahangir's son being the one we are talking about "Shah Jahan", had Kannij. Which means sex slaves. Every Mughal ruler had a kannij of their own. And so Shah Jahan had them to.
- Jahangir (father of Shah Jahan) had twenty wives. Like father, like son. Right?
- those days kings were marrying hundreds of girls just so they can conquer the empires of their father-in-laws. I guess marrying more than one girl is normal. But it's not in this generation. And it's illegal and a crime
Now what "Mr. Best boyfriends of the world", do you want your girls to get 11 husbands..
I know you girls are really happy right now. And there is more. Those who want to roast your boyfriends please stay. I promise this gets better(and darker). And who hates this already, please just... Leave
The second point - Mumtaj died when she gave birth to her FOURTEENTH CHILD. she died of postpartum haemorrhage which caused considerable blood loss after painful labor of THIRTY HOURS. Who makes their wife suffer like this if they truly loved her
- there is more
The third point - some articles states whether Taj Mahal was built of love or built of guilt. Now let me explain.
Mumtaj was a very cunning, ambitious and and intelligent woman.
The sorting hat would sort her into Slytherin just by seeing her cunning face.
So, ANYWAYS, she started involving herself into the administration and started giving advices and ideas about the administration
So either of this would have happened
Shah Jahan got really jealous of her being very intelligent and might have killed her.
Or Shah Jahan thought that she might throw him out of the throne and she would take over the throne and might have killed her.
Or Shah Jahan didn't like her involving in the administration because she is a woman and might have killed her.
Or Shah Jahan didn't want her to be a superior to him and tell him what to do and might have killed her
These are just my theories. I don't know if they are real. She might have died after she gave birth or someone might have killed her. We don't know that but I did not say that this is not true love or anything.
I just said this because many men and actors are/were talking so low of women's love using Shah Jahan as their "example". And I can't just sit here knowing everything.
Now girls be like:
Boyfriends: HAVE YOU EVER DONE ANYTHING NICE TO ME! SHAH JAHAN HAS BUILT TAJ MAHAL FOR HIS WIFE. HAVE YOU GIRLS EVER DONE ANYTHING TO BOYS.
Girls: yeah! I am planning on doing something like Shah Jahan.
Boyfriends: *happily* and what is that?
Girls: I am going to marry 11 boys and I am going to make one of them my favorite and make them bleed for 30 hrs and build a big monument using the most expensive stones from all over the world and cut off the thumbs of the slaves who worked for me so that they cannot copy "my" design and I am going to steal all the fame for building the monument.
Boyfriends: *jaws dropped*
Girls: isn't it just the sweetest thing to do? Everyone's gonna call our love "the true love"
I just posted this because I can't stand men talking so low about women's love.
Women can love just same as men and they sacrifice as much as men do.
Please don't mention Taj Mahal as a "symbol of love" and Shah Jahan and Mumtaj as the "best couple in the world".
I know Mumtaj is Shah Jahan's "favorite" among all his wives.
There are many articles about the mystery of Taj Mahal and the tragedy of Mumtaj
Please don't let anyone talk bad about women and research many things during this pandemic and share it to the world
I know I am going to receive so much hate for this but I can't be sitting quite with knowing all this and let people talk nasty about women's love.
Stay safe; Stay home
✨Thank you✨

7th July, 2021 shall go down in history as the day India lost one of her greatest stalwarts, the legend himself- the unimitable Dilip Kumar. Possibly the best actor Indian cinema has ever had, Sri Dilip Kumar was an institution in himself, teaching aspiring actors the art of nuanced acting through his varied works. Originally known as the 'Tragedy King', he excelled equally in comic roles, thereby proving his versatility to the world. Today, we dedicate this special blog to him. If not for 'Mughal-e-Azam', 'Jodha Akbar' would probably remain unmade. Had there been no Dilip Kumar, who would have inspired the next generations?
For every movie buff, the dvd release of a favourite film has great significance- the extra reels!! Scenes that were edited out, 'behind the screen' actions, interviews- there is a lot of stuff that we get to watch on the dvds and nowhere else (until some kind soul uploads them 😉😛).. However, a lot of the times, we are left wondering if the dvd was indeed worth our money. Of course, we get to watch the film whenever we want to, but what about the rest? If there is one dvd that gives buyers their money's worth, it is Jodha Akbar.
Ashutosh makes history even here; he is probably the only director who has had to edit out so many fabulous scenes from his film. Others are less unfortunate- they usually edit out unimportant bits, and even if those are good, most of the times, they are dispensable. In Jodha Akbar, most of the deleted scenes seem just the opposite. Once you have seen them, watching the edited version of the film feels somewhat incomplete.
The first scene that comes to mind is 'Jodha talking to her friends about Ratan Singh'. Yes, yes, we do not like Ratan Singh either! However, he is not the reason why we are mentioning this scene here, Jodha is. While the rest of the scene seems totally editable, Jodha's answer to her friend's question about whether she will willingly surrender to Ratan Singh proves that no matter how unimportant a Gowariker scene seems at first, one must never judge before it ends. In the film, we see a bold and opinionated Jodha breaking the stereotypical norms of her society and daring to express her unwillingness to surrender on the very first night. Naturally, when we saw the scene for the first time, we took Jodha's words at face value; we assumed she was not ready because of the forced marriage. However, the deleted scene proves that she would have done the same even for Ratan Singh. She would never have loved someone unless he gave him the resepect she deserved. What a woman!
Next in line is the 'Bidaai' scene, whose essence can literally be summed up in the question that Raja Bharmal's aide asks- 'Ye bidaai hai ya bali?' Jodha indeed is akin to a sacrificial lamb in this scene, and Aishwarya's tears express it all.
Of course, we are interested in Jodha and Akbar's interactions more than anything else, and in all honesty, that was why we all were so impatient for the deleted scenes to come out back then. And thankfully, we do get some unseen moments, although it would be wonderful if the entire 'deleted scene' reel had been just them! 😄😂🤩🥰
Horrified after witnessing Jalal's abject cruelty towards Adham, Jodha confronts her husband and reprimands him for his actions. She is shocked that he never even spared a thought for Maham Anga before taking such a drastic decision. Jalal, however remains adamant as well as furious, and maintains that Adham got what he deserved. Although initially unable to come to terms with it, she soon realizes his reason for doing whatever he did. As a broken and helpless Jalal confesses that if Maham Anga has lost a son, he has lost a father, Jodha understands the agony her husband is going through. Hrithik is brilliant, first as the incandescent Jalal, and then as the heart-broken one. As Jodha places her hand on his shoulder to console him, one can't help but wonder why this scene was edited out of the original reel! What harm would an extra few seconds or even minutes do? 😭
Then comes Mahesh Das aka Birbal. The two scenes through which Ashutosh narrates the history of Mahesh Das's transformation into Birbal are undoubtedly the jewels in the crown of the deleted reel. In the first, Jalal and Jodha meet Mahesh Das who cleverly prevents the emperor from hunting, much to Jodha's pleasure (and ours too). When he claims to know exactly how many birds there are in the land, Jalal tells him that he will be punished if he is wrong. However, Mahesh Das's wit is unparalleled and he rattles a random number. As Jalal and Jodha both look at him with surprise, he explains. If his answer is more than the actual figure, it will mean that birds from the neighbouring land have visited; if less, it will imply that birds from Agra have gone to visit their relatives. Naturally, both the emperor and the queen are impressed. Jalal gives his ring to Mahesh Das and asks him to visit the Deewan-e-Aam.
In the second scene, Mahesh Das visits the Deewan-e-Aam but encounters a corrupt guard who refuses to let common people enter the court without a bribe. When Mahesh Das shows him the emperor's ring, the latter allows him to enter on one condition- Mahesh Das must share half of whatever gift he receives from the emperor with him. Little does he know that he is talking to one of the 'would be' Navratnas of Akbar's court, incidentally one of the most famous ones! Mahesh Das agrees to his condition and asks for a prize of 50 whip shots from Jalal, much to his and evryone else's shock. When he explains the reason for making such a strange request, Jalal calls the guard and orders him to be whipped 50 times instead as a punishment for corruption, which he insists shall have no place in his empire. Fascinated with his wit, Jalal invites Mahesh Das to be a part of the Mughal court. However, Mulla Do-Piyaza objects, and Jalal gives him permission to test the former. If he is able to answer Mulla Do-Piyaza's question, he will be accepted in court. If not, he will be punished. That is the deal. Also, if Mahesh Das wins, then Mulla Do-Piyaza promises to bow before him every day. Jalal agrees, and so does Mahesh Das. After much deliberation, Mulla Do-Piyaza asks Mahesh Das to guess what he is thinking at the moment. Of course, it is an impossible task. However, Mahesh Das is not someone to give up; nor does he need to. His intellect is ready with an answer. He tells the court that at this moment, Mulla Do-Piyaza is praying to the All Mighty for the emperor's long life, good health and prosperity. Is there anything left for Mulla Do-Piyaza to do except accept defeat? 😂😂 Having proved his cleverness to everyone, Mahesh Das attracts appreciation from one and all, and earns a priceless reward from the emperor himself- the name 'Birbal' (meaning quick-witted or 'dimaag mein taaqat'). Having these excellently scripted, directed and enacted scenes in the film would have been worth the extra time!
Two more deleted sequences deserve mention. The first is the moment of Maham Anga's death. Jalal comes to see her as she lies on her death bed, frail and ill. We understand this is the first time he is interacting with her since the betrayal. If not for anything else, this scene should have been included only for Hrithik's exceptional performance, and of course for Ila Arun ji. As Maham Anga finally admits to Jalal that she had wronged Jodha on account of her overpossessiveness for him, and asks him to call him like he used to one last time, we see a completely devastated Jalal, not the Shahenshah of Hindustaan, but just a grieving son. As if she was waiting for that one word from him, Maham Anga passes away the minute Jalal calls her 'Badi Ammi' again. The scene is a strange mixture of melancholia and poeticness, and Hrithik's wonderful emotive capacity makes it one of the best bits of the whole film, both the edited and the unedited versions. On another note, how does someone look so handsome and flawless while sobbing? Is Hrithik even human? 🙄🤨😐😑🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
The second is the scene when Jalal comes to meet Jodha and his mother before departing for the war with Shareefuddin. Jodha says she is praying for three lives- her husband, her brother Sujamal, and her sister-in- law Bakshi Bano Begum (Shareefuddin's wife). Nonetheless, Jalal vows to protect Amer, no matter what it takes. The scene is poignant and yet another example of the magical on screen chemistry between Hrithik and Aishwarya. Seriously, we deserve them again!!
In conclusion, we reiterate that we would not have minded had the film been half an hour longer due to the inclusion of all the scenes mentioned above
With that, we have come to the end of this blog. Hopefully, you will join us on our next too. Stay safe. Stay well.
Once again, this one is for you Dilip Kumar Saab. You showed the way; so, we have Jodha Akbar. Thank You Sir. May you Rest In Peace 🙏🙏

This beautiful image came my way from Bhavna Kapur, who urged her grandmother, Rama Uberoi to read Remnants. And as she read, her husband's Partition story tumbled out, along with the only object the family could carry. Ms. Uberoi’s husband, Sudershan Singh Uberoi, belonged to Sialkot, his father was a barrister and his mother, the daughter of the Wazir of Indore. Yet despite the luxury the family enjoyed, Partition did not spare them. Unable to find safety in a violence-ridden Sialkot any longer, the family - the parents and their nine children - fled from their home to a refugee camp before boarding a train to India. In the midst of riots, all Ms. Uberoi’s mother-in-law could carry was her Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh holy book, believing that it was the sole thing that would protect them in such horrific times. She was attached to the book and kept it close, carrying it on her head when they left the camp for the train station. Amidst the hasty departure, they nearly left their youngest child in the camp. Filled with fear, her husband rushed back to fetch him, convinced that it was the power of the holy book that had kept the child safe, while the world around them was burning. The family migrated across first to Delhi, then to Agra and finally to Kapur, where, like so many others who had witnessed similar tragedy, worked hard to stand on their feet again. None of the luxuries of their old life remained, but what sustained was the spirit of the family. This holy book is the only thing that has survived from their home across the border, a totem of faith, and now Ms. Uberoi has become the keeper of it’s story.
