Watched first 2 ep of the new PJO show and... i really do not get where the hype is coming from

Like sure, visuals are nice and the actors are doing a great job (love Clarisse's actress so much, she seems to be having a lot of fun). There are some adaptation choices that i don't particularly like (like mostly Grover being just shooed away constantly, erasing adhd and dyslexia besides one breif mention and that letters thing in first ep, getting kicked out of school being part of some grand plan and whatever was Sally's problem), but overall i think it's decent,

But what i cannot get over is just how bad of a tv show it is. Like, it's so confusing

I cannot fathom how they managed to get negative amount of tension and action in fight scenes. And the constant exposition dumping while they just sit/stand there. And talk. And talk. And then talk some more enough that you nearly forget that the time sensitive thing that is happening is supposedly still happening. Like you have them be like "omg we have to get out of there now" and then just have them stand there and talk for at least 3 mins??? Or the absolutely confusing decision to cut the hype of the capture the flag starting cuz very slow and boring walk when Percy says the same thing he already said at least 3 times in this episode alone is more important

And do not get me started on the fades to black. Idk if it's some new trend in tv shows or whatever, they are just confusing and laughable

I hope the rest of the season is gonna get at least slightly better with all of this. I'm really trying to be positive and give it a fair shot

I like emo (well, Paramore, anyway) and pop-punk well enough, but I loved Willow's first two albums, so I wasn't immediately thrilled by her change in direction. She's pretty much nailed it on her most recent album, though.

Demi Lovato has also nailed her return to pop-rock. Is Sophie Powers' "U Love It"... pop-industrial-goth? If that's not a genre, it should be. Danny L Harle's remix suggests the enticing possibility of a pop-punk/hyperpop convergence, also suggested by Beabadoobe's collaboration with Blackstarkids. Which brings us back, in a way, to Willow, specifically her collaboration with Pinkpantheress.

Batman: The Animated Series - Paper Cut-Out Portraits and Profiles

Happy Birthday Batman

An official DC Comics calendar published for 1976 identified February 19th as Bruce Wayne’s birthday.  Other dates have been mentioned in the comics as possibly being the Batman’s birthday yet the nineteenth of February still seems the most canonically recognized.  Really, a Pisces?  

In any case, to celebrate the Dark Knight’s birthday here are paper cut-outs of Batman in all his various animated forms.  Who knew there were so many?

The Adventures Of Batman was the first Batman cartoon series and ran from 1968 to 1969.  It stared Olan Soule in the role of Batman with a young Casey Kasem in the role of Robin. 

The SuperFriends brought Batman together with the world’s greatest heroes and ran from 1973 all the way to 1986.  Soul and Kasem both reprised their roles as Batman and Robin in the series.

The New Adventures of Batman ran for a single season in 1977 featuring Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin.  This was a particularly silly show and featured a great deal of a magical imp known as Bat-Mite.  

1992 saw the advent of the greatest cartoon of all time as Batman: The Animated Series debuted and ran through to 1995.  The great Kevin Conroy provided the voice for Batman.

The New Batman Adventures was a continuation of Batman: The Animated Series with some updated stylistic changes.  It ran from 1997 to 1999, featuring Conroy as Batman.  

Batman Beyond entailed a Gotham City of the future where an aged Bruce Wayne trains a young man on his path to filling the mantle of The Batman.  It ran from 1999 to 2001 and stared Kevin Conroy as Bruce Wayne and Will Friedle as his protégé, Terry McGinnis.

Justice League brought the Superfriends back together this time under the banner of The Justice League (and later Justice League Unlimited).  It ran from 2001 to 2006 and once more featured Kevin Conroy in the role of Batman.

The Batman, which ran from 2004 to 2008, departed from the continuity established in Batman: The Animated Series and presented a new version of the Caped Crusader and his various allies and adversaries.  It starred Rino Romano in the role of Batman with Evan Sabara and Danielle Judovits as Robin and Batgirl.    

Echoing the campiness of 1966, Batman: The Brave and The Bold was a fun, light-hearted anthology series that ran from 2004 to 2008.  Each episode saw Batman teaming up with different heroes of the DC Universe for madcap adventures.  Diedrich Bader stared as Batman.

The series Young Justice, which ran non-concurrently from 2010 to 2022, focused primarily on Robin and the other younger heroes as they made their way from being sidekicks to a team in the own right.  Batman featured in many of the episodes where he was voiced by Bruce Greenwood.  

Beware the Batman from for a single season in 2013.  Anthony Ruivivar voiced Batman in this dark, largely computer animated series.  

Batman Unlimited ran from 2015 to 2016.  This was primarily a commercial in animated form featuring short, action-packed stories in tandem with the release of action figures and toy vehicles.  Roger Craig Smith provided the voice for Batman. 

Justice League Action brought back the League for more light-hearted adventures with a star-studded cast.  It ran from 2016 to 2018 with Kevin Conroy returning to once again voice Batman.  

Batman appeared as a periodic guest star in the DC Super Hero Girls series, which ran from 2019 to 2022.  Herein Batman spoke in a barely audible growl that only the other characters could comprehend.  Whereas actor Keith Ferguson provided the voice for Bruce Wayne, who further hid his secret identity as the the Caped Crusader by featuring in the ridiculous reality TV show, ‘Making it Wayne.’

A lampooned version of the Dark Knight sporadically features in the zany Harley Quinn animated series, premiering in 2019.   Diedrich Bader reprises his role from Batman: The Brave and The Bold, voicing this decidedly goofier version of the Dark Knight.

And finally, hopefully debuting some time soon, Batman: The Caped Crusader acts as a spiritual successor to Batman: The Animated Series and features the final acting role of the late, great Kevin Conroy, reprising Batman one last time.

"I think this lady thinks she is much more kinky than actually she is."

It's winter break, which means they are in the middle of the rare collection of lazy weeks, that feel both endless and never quite enough. During this time they can be normal people, can spend days getting tanned- or sun burnt, in Max’s case- and evenings lounging on sofas, cuddled close despite Australia's scorching summer, can drink a beer and watch crappy TV.

Like, 'how to build a sex room.'

Max's head lifts from where it was resting on Daniel's chest to give his scathing review of Melanie, the British host who is strangely obsessed with floggers. The rest of his body stays tucked securely underneath Daniel's arm, where it belongs.

"I don't know baby," Daniel says, shrugging only one shoulder so as not to jostle Max around. His fingertips trace patterns across the top of Max’s pale arms, imaginary tattoos Daniel would like the idea of putting there, if the idea of defacing Max’s skin wasn’t worse. "There are like, different levels of kink I guess."

Max snorts, apparently unimpressed by Daniel's reasonings.

"This, of course, I know," he says petulantly, "but why is she always pulling out her metal butt plug like it is the wildest thing ever. I know even people who are not gay use those. Martin does."

Daniel laughs at Max’s idea of not kinky being his world famous DJ friend, who must have a shag in every major city. The sound bounces around the ranch’s living room, the entire house having become an echo chamber of happiness recently, their giggles never too far away.

"Well, not everyone can be as wild as you, Max Verstappen," he says easily, watching Melanie reveal another sex dungeon that must have a few too many clichés for Max’s liking, if the way he wrinkles his nose up at it is any indication. "Not everyone can be as lucky as me, I guess."

This seems to please Max. Enough to have a pink flush spread across the top of his cheekbones, and for him to watch the remainder of the show with significantly fewer critiques. It gives Daniel time to ponder.

Butt plugs, spanking and handcuffs were all things he didn't try until his late twenties. Until Max, really, until he had someone in his bed enough nights in a row that it felt safe to bring up ideas of what he might want or like, outside of head and a good fuck. Things he’d been worried would be too strange, would say something about him to strangers he wasn’t quite ready to say to himself.

Max, on the other hand, had been shameless. Since the very first time Daniel had braved a conversation starting with, ‘don’t you think it could be fun to try,’ he had been willing and ready for any of Daniel’s wants, but he’d also wanted in return. Had opened his eyes to a whole new collection of Max’s desires only for them to become Daniel’s too.

It is one of the thing Daniel loves so much about him. Not his kinkiness, but how he is never ashamed of being anything other than wholly himself.

"I still do not understand why there is the room," Max half mumbles, his voice bringing Daniel back to the TV. His lips catch on Daniel's nipple as he speaks. Its too hot for t-shirts. "Can these people not just be kinky in their bed?"

Daniel hums, considering. Then, thinking back to comments both their sisters have made-

"Maybe it's hard," he suggests, "like if they have kids and stuff."

Then again, because he's feeling brave-

"Maybe we'll be commissioning Melanie to build us a whole sex house, you know, when we have little terrors."

Max's breathing catches; Daniel sees the way it stops and then shudders out from his chest in one long exhale. When he rolls his head back to look up at Daniel again, his cheeks are pinker, but his smile softest one he knows how to curve his mouth into, reserved usually for their nieces and nephews.

"Okay," is all he says, like it really is that easy. Daniel still remembers realising years ago and with a shock, that for them maybe it could be. "A sex house, for when we have babies. I'm holding you to that promise."

“Deal,” Daniel says, holding this his hand up for Max to shake. The awkward angle of it while cuddled together makes them both laugh again, and Daniel can’t resist letting the laughter linger by tickling Max’s side.

There are no more serious questions to ask about their future that they don’t already know the answer too, deep down. Some things in life have been a given to him since Max Verstappen joined Red Bull Racing; he was going to be a world champion, Daniel was not, and they were going to spend their lives loving each other in spite of that. Whatever each of them wanted that life to look like, the other would be on board.

There are some things Daniel doesn’t know though. Some things he has to ask. Like-

“Can it be cowboy themed?”

You had been left alone in the trailer for about an hour whilst Eddie did a quick store run for something he’d need for hellfire on Thursday.

You were so incredibly bored.

Nothing in the house was fun without someone else…

Eddie had tried his best to keep you entertained, he had left the tv on for you and he had prepared a small snack of popcorns.

But when the popcorn was eaten and the tv only looped reruns of shows you weren’t really interested in, you laid on the couch like a starfish ready to give in and let boredom swallow you completely.

That was until you heard a large thump outside the window.

You flew up from the couch, startled at first, but as you heard the patter of small claws curiosity took the upper hand.

You fluttered you way over to the window and glanced outside.

There sat a squirrel, obviously looking for something to eat in the snow.

You scurried over to the cabinet and began to search it for something squirrel friendly.

You found what you needed after you accidentally knocked a cereal box to the floor as you bent over.

A bag of nuts that was supposed to be for Wayne’s vintage nutcracker.

The bag was heavy but with great effort you lugged it all the way to the window.

You snapped the latches open using magic and muttered:

“Probably best that Eddie doesn’t know I can do that.”

You caught the squirrels attention by dropping a nut infront of it.

And once it realised where it came from then began a 40 minute long game of fetch where you didn’t all sorts of tricks to make the nuts harder to catch for the squirrel.

It’s was a great deal of fun.

So much fun in fact that you didn’t hear when the door slid open.

Eddie first saw the mess from the cabinet and then the open window and his heart began beating faster. His initial thought was that someone had kidnapped you.

Luckily he calmed instantly as he saw you lunging the last nut into the snow outside.

“And what are you up to my lady?” He said, with a pointed look.

“I got us a new pet?” You said with a sheepish smile, gesturing to the squirrel.

Current obsession: squeezing every moment out of the next two weeks until i have to go back to work.

We’re not hallucinating… Josh is doing Strictly over Christmas this year!

The Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special is back! As the Ballroom is once again transformed into a magical winter wonderland, the first celebrity behind the all-star advent calendar doors this year has been revealed.

On Strictly: It Takes Two on BBC Two and iPlayer, Josh Widdicombe was announced as the first celebrity included in 2024’s Christmas line up. He will be paired with Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Karen Hauer.

Expect festive cheer, jingle bells, mistletoe madness, bedazzling baubles and six celebrities all sleighing their way to Elstree in a bid to be crowned the Strictly Christmas Champion 2024.

Stand-up comedian Josh Widdicombe has starred in over thirty series of Channel 4’s The Last Leg as a team captain. Josh co-hosts the hugely successful podcast Parenting Hell with Rob Beckett and has written two Sunday Times Bestselling books. He has appeared on multiple comedy panel shows including Smart TV, QI, A League Of Their Own, Have I Got News For You and Taskmaster, to name a few. He's performed onstage at the Royal Albert Hall for The Royal Variety Performance and hosted Live At The Apollo.

Missing Fellow Travelers this Friday. What a treat it was to view a new episode weekly counting down to Christmas, like opening an advent calendar of TV goodness.

The story of Hawk and Tim was sad, happy, hurtful and healing. But ultimately it was beautiful. Grief is the price of love ❤️

The art of storytelling was poignant yet sophisticated. Subjects were dealt with in a profound and compelling way yet in an elegant and non dramatic presentation.

Jonathan Bailey and Matt Bomer were PHENOMENAL and the other members of the team were fantastic. The parallels between Marcus/ Frankie and Hawk / Tim were well woven threads. The bravery shown by Frankie was commendable. Lucy a woman equally confounded by the times finally found her way.

It may have been the wrong time, the wrong place and the wrong social environment- but their love was so real.

Hawk adores Tim and honored him by being with him through his sickness and by acknowledging him in public. Tims love confession to Hawk was so authentic and cathartic- his all consuming love - he had lived and loved on his own terms.

Alas, all things in life do come to an end. The journey through life takes many twists and turns. But their journey was phenomenal

This show was so beautiful- the writing, the story telling and the acting - I truly hope it wins many awards and accolades.

A Nonsense Christmas (Y/N Ulrich Universe)

Christmas were always one of your favorite festivities along with Halloween, helping to decorate the house, buying gifts for family and friends, hearing christmas songs (this year fruitcake by Sabrina Carpenter was your obsession), baking your traditional red velvet, peppermint, gingerbread and sugar cookies that you started to make during the quarantine, watching christmas movies and opening advent calendars

And since the last christmas you spent it with Jack, Anna and their family in Virginia, this year the two families will be spending the holidays together, and after having your fyp of Tik Tok full of the Scream'd Musical Parody, you and Jack decided to recreate the 'everybody' part, and because both of you knew that the second the music start, you would start laughing and it will be a complete mess

That's why after an early trainning, Josh and Hayley let you film it in their house so the surprise wasn't ruined

"Can I ask again from where did you got the idea?", Josh asked after finishing breakfast

"There's a Scream musical parody that a theater group was doing in Las Vegas and it went so viral on Tik Tok because it's amazing and hilarious", you started to explain while having Rogue in your lap who was entertained tracing your tattoo snake with her little fingers, "So, I started to play it on the living room TV just to mess with dad, and because I enjoy the performance"

"And then we started to joke about performing it for our families, until it wasn't a joke anymore", Jack continued between bites of the peppermint cookies you brought for the family of three, "We started to learn the entire number based on the Tik Tok videos and the audios in there, but we decided to send them an email to ask for permition to recreate it"

"They accepted and even sent us an audio without the audience noises", you continued, "So, at first we were planning on doing it live during the christmas dinner but let's be honest, we're going to lose the concentration and start laughing, so we decided to film it and present it after the dinner"

"Instead of doing a christmas card or a JC Penney photoshoot, we're doing this"

"With full production, costumes, fake blood, fake knife and gun"

"And you want to use our kitchen to film it?", Hayley asked

"Yes, please", you nodded, "Or any space that you want, we promise to don't do a mess"

"We would do it in any of our houses but there's always people in there and this surprise needs to be perfect"

"We also talked about going to the original house, but is a seven hour trip, and we would raise suspision"

"Guys, you can film the musical number in here, we have no problem", Josh nodded, "But, can we saw the video first?"

Nodding, Jack took his phone to show them the performance while you turned to talk with Rogue who now was engrossed with your bracelets

"Hey, Rogue", you called her softly causing her to look at you with a smile, "I'm going to make you a swiftie, you're going to love Taylor, I promise"

"What era she'll be?", Jack asked taking one of her hands

"She seems like a Fearless with a bit of 1989"

"She'll need friendship bracelets of that eras"

"And merch, that will be her christmas gift"

"This is hilarious", Hayley laughed after the video ended, "And it's going to be a fun christmas video"

"Just leave it all in order after filming, and don't break anything", Josh instructed

Happy because everything was doing as planned, you and Jack smiled mischievously to each other

When the 24th arrived, the house since early in the morning was busy with the preparations for the dinner that night, especially with everyone in the kitchen doing different dishes

"Tornado, how much time until your cookies are ready?", Skeet asked prepearing the turkey, "We need to start pre-heating the oven for the turkey"

"A minute or two", you responded checking the oven

"It doesn't make sense that you made like thousands of cookies since the start of december and now you are making more", Jakob commented mixing the cream for the cranberry salad

"It's because those were to gift or give to community centers", you responded puting your gloves to get the cookies out of the oven

With the help of Jack and Megan, the three of you got the trays of cookies out of the oven to leave them in the dinning table so they can cool off

"The cats are trying to eat the dinner again", Anna warned trying to make Tatum, Butters and Ivy go away from the kitchen

"Okay, time to put the christmas sweaters on them", Naiia sighed cleaning her hands with a cloth

"I'll continue with the mash potatoes", Stutz said taking her place in front of the cooking pot

"Sweet baby Tatum", you sang taking the orange cat in your arms, "Time to put you in christmas spirit"

Going to the Petco christmas gift package they sent a few days ago, that still was in the living room, you grabbed the reindeer sweater to put it on Tatum, while Jack grabbed the santa suit for Butters and Naiia got the plaid dress for Ivy

"I'm sorry, but it can't be that possible that an orange cat can be that calm while putting clothes on", Jakob said noticing Tatum was calm

"I can't believe the beef you got with my cat, and her color is strawberry blonde", you exclaimed adjusting the sweater, "It's christmas eve, let it go"

"It's not my fault that your sweet angel baby Tatum hates me", Jakob claimed, "She scratches me everytime she sees me"

"This time she hasn't though", Megan pointed

"Thank you Megan", you said, "You're the best"

Interrupting what was going to be a small disscussion, the front door opened, revealing Georgina with her suitcase and travel bag

"Hello family", Georgina greeted, "Sorry I'm late, the airport is pure chaos, and getting a cab or Uber is worse"

"Mom!", you and your siblings exclaimed while running to hug her

"Hi, babies", Georgina smiled returning the hug, "By the way, there's a package at the door"

"That's weird", Skeet frowned, "We didn't have anything to be delievered today"

"It says Prada on the box", Georgina pointed

"Tornado, that's for you", Naiia said helping with the suitcase

Getting through the front door, you saw a big box next to the door that had the Prada logo and a 'fragile' precaution along with your name and direction

"Babe, can you please help me?", you called Jack

"Coming!", Jack responded running from the living door to where you were, "This is huge"

"I know", you laughed, "I'm curious about what's inside"

Carrying the box between the two of you and dodging everyone in the house, you carefully left the box in the floor to open the card box revealing another white box which was left on the center table

"You know what, I'm going to open it first and do the video later", you concluded opening the box revealing four spheres

"Those are gorgeous", Naiia commented sitting next to you, "There's a note"

Grabbing the envelope which was on the lift of the box, you opened it to see a handwritten note

"Y/N, happy to share with you the Prada Holiday gifts and the magic of the holiday season through the fantasy of an imposible voyage, a journey in your own sphere", you read out loud so everyone can hear, "Well, we got the spheres for next year"

Leaving the note aside, you opened the another part to see two drawers, in which the first were some skincare products and a red patent leather mini-pouch, and in the other there was a red Prada Galleria patent leather mini bag

"I wouldn't be surprised if you become an ambassador for them next year, angel", Anna commented sitting next to you watching the spheres, "Or for any brand that you've wore"

"That would be incredible", you nodded

Once everything was ready, and the turkey was in the oven, everyone went upstairs to change into their christmas sweaters, yours was a Krampus themed one on top of your red and white pajamas and gingerbread man slippers

"I can't wait to see everyone reactions to our gift", you laughed laying in your bed while 'Christmas with the Kranks' was playing on the TV, "It's going to be hilarious"

"The greatest thing is that we managed to film it in one afternoon", Jack pointed getting out of your dresser with a red shirt with a Santa Claus picture and black pajama pants with Butters' face on it, to lay by your side to watch the movie at what you moved to put your head on his chest and he cirled your waist with his arm, "I swear that they were waiting for us to finish so they can kick us out"

"Rogue was having a blast though", you pointed, "I love that girl so much"

"I remember the day they told me they were expacting her, I was screaming that I was going to be her older brother"

"You're her oficial older brother", you nodded openning the fruitcake that arrived a few days ago as a gift from Sabrina Carpenter along with the EP vynil, a hoodie and a shirt, "Want some fruitcake?"

"Yes please"

Sitting against your headboard, both of you started to eat the fruitcake, sometimes feeding each other while still watching the movie

"Siblings and couples meeting", Jakob anounced entering your room along with Megan, Naiia and Stutz, all with their christmas outfits

"What's wrong?", you frowned

"We know that you didn't make that fruitcake because you still don't know how to do it", Jakob said causing to roll your eyes, "Where did you get it?"

"We also got eggnog", Megan said raising a bottle with some cups

"Sabrina Carpenter sent it", you responded giving them forks so they can eat too, "Along with the EP, a shirt and a hoodie"

"A Taybrina notice only this year?", Naiia pointed sitting on the bed, "Tornado just tell us when is rep TV releasing"

"What are the vault tracks?", Stutz joked helping to serve the eggnog

"I wish I knew the answer to those questions", you sighed, "We have a lot of theories of when is going to be released"

"One of the strongest was that she was going to anounce it during the Brazil concerts", Jack pointed recieving a cup of eggnog, "But she didn't"

"Next year will be", Jakob shrudded, "Well, cheers for christmas"

"Cheers", the rest of you repeated before drinking

"Is this spiked?", Jack asked sensing an unsual flavor

"Yeah, we put a bit of rum in it before coming", Jakob nodded

"Dad and mom, and even Anna are going to kill you when they find out about this", you said still drinking it, "And you might forget the fact that our dad is Billy Loomis"

"And we haven't seen the movie", Naiia remembered refering to her and Jakob, "And they don't need to know if we don't tell them"

Waiting until the older adults called all of you, the six of you stayed in your room watching the movie and eating the fruitcake and drinking the eggnog, and even starting to watch 'How The Grinch Stole the Christmas', until footsteps started to be heard in the stairs, which caused Jakob and Stutz to hide the bottle of spiked eggnog underneath your pillows

"If that bottle start leaking, I'll kill you both", you threatened them, "And not with my blingy fake knife"

Just as you finished threating them, there was a few knocks on the door before it was open to reveal Georgina

"Hey kids, dinner's ready", Georgina said

Standing from the bed and bean bags, the six of you started to go downstairs where all of you helped to put the table and preventing the cats from trying to eat the food by giving them and the dogs their special dinner, and taking the family photos, before sitting at the table to eat all the food that was made since the previous day

An once the dinner was finished and the dishes used were cleaned, you and Jack made everyone sit in the living room with the pets, already with the TV prepeared for the video

"Okay, we know that the gifts are tomorrow, but we wanted to gave you this one at this moment", you said trying to not burst in giggles

"Most of the times, the youngest of the family decide to do a little show, so we decided to to the same", Jack continued, "So I hope you enjoy this"

Stepping to the side and leaving everyone intrigued, Jack pressed the play button while you took out your phone to film their reactions

"You did not", Skeet groaned when he heard the music

"Yes we did", you laughed

"Is that Josh and Hayley's house?", Anna asked seeing the familiar kitchen

"We filmed it the day we went with them for breakfast", Jack nodded

During the whole video, everyone tried to hold their laughs but it wasn't possible causing to giggles and laughter to be heard in the room, while you and Jack were singing and dancing the choreography in the back

Once the video ended and the credits (yes, you did ending credits) started to roll, everyone started to clap still laughing

"Well, I guess we don't have to watch the movie anymore", Naiia joked, "This was amazing"

"Can we have a live performance of this?", Stutz asked

"There's bloopers at the end that will answer that question", you pointed

Returning the attention to the screen, the credits ended to show the bloopers who were of one of you or both laughing mid scene, forgetting a step, almost tripping at some steps, accidentaly dropping the fake guns, and even Rogue walking in the middle of the take

"Dad, as Billy Loomis and one half of the first ghostface, we would love to hear you opinion", you said after the video ended

"First of all, after you played the original performance in the TV every single day of october and november, this is my favorite version", Skeet responded, "And great acting on the Billy and Stu parts"

"Great camera work and acting", Georgina pointed, "What camera did you use?"

"The iPhone one", Jack answered

"And don't worry, everyone will have a copy of this video in their email tomorrow, as well as more of our friends", you continued, "That way you can watch it everyday"

Last night, after rewatching the video because they wanted to film a bit to their instagram stories, everyone went to sleep, not before you forced Jakb to get the spiked eggnog out of your room

The morning of the 25th, while the six of you were still asleep in the bedrooms, the adults where bussy filling the stockings and organizing all the gifts that were left in the living room under the tree

And while thinking in a good way to wake you up, Skeet took a speaker to put it in the middle of the aisle of the second floor, to blast Master of Puppets by AC/DC on full volume causing the six of you and the pets to wake up abruptely

"Welcome to christmas morning on the Ulrich household", you murmured with your face against your pillow and laying on your stomach

"Is the same song every year?", Jack asked laying next to you in the same way but with an arm on your waist

"Yeah", you responded feeling how Butters and Tatum started to walk around the bed, "Merry christmas babe"

"Merry christmas gorgeous"

Finally getting out off bed and taking the cats and your throw blankets of each others faces, both of you got out of your room to see the others in the door of their rooms watching the speaker with pure hate

"What if we kick it until it's broken?", Naiia suggested hugging Ivy

"He would make us buy him another one and better", you said hugging Tatum, "And none of use have partnerships with any electronic company to get one for free"

"Kids, get here now!", Anna exclaimed from the first floor

Turning off the speaker and taking it with you the six of you went downstairs to have breakfast and then going to the living room to open the gifts

And after recieving a Vivienne Westwood bag from your mom, a Van Cleef & Arpels bracelet (which your mom, Naiia, Meghan and Anna recieved in diferent colors) from your dad, the new Bratz videogame and a new case for your nintendo switch from Jakob and Meghan, and personalized golf sticks from Jakob, books (The Great Gatsby, Wildfire, Taylor Swift Book of Lyrics, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Falling off the Cliff) from Naiia and Stutz, and the Frankestein and Bride of Frankenstein Monster High from Naiia, a Dyson Airwrap from Jack, and the Masters of Make-Up Effects: A Century of Practical Magic book from Anna

After openning the main gifts, the Chiefs vs Raiders was on the TV (principally to see Taylor on screen), all of you were openning the stockings, in yours there were lip glosses from essence, a snake hairclaw, a new airpods case, a Grinch plushie, candy and chocolates, but what weirded you a little bit was the Mercedes white hat almost at the bottom of the stocking

"I apreciate and like the hat, but I only watch Formula 1 when I'm bored", you said putting the hat on your head

"There's something more on the stocking", Georgina pointed

Introducing your hand at the bottom of the stocking you pulled a set of car keys with a keychain of the ghostface mask with a tiara

"No", you murmured, "No way, are you serious?"

"It's in the front porch", Skeet said

Almost running with the rest following, you went to the front door to opened it to reveal a Mercedes E-Class Cabriolet black with a pink ribbon on top

Feeling the tears dalling off your eyes, you sat in the steps without stop looking at the car sensing how Jack sat by your side hugging you at what you hug him too noticing how your siblings were filming your reaction

"Thank you very much", you cried watching at your parents and holding their hands, "I promise to take care of it and not crash it or having fines, I promise"

"We trust in you", Georgina nodded kissing your head

"Besides, you earned it", Skeet added

"Thank you very much", you repeated

Recovering from the shock of getting a car for christmas, all of you returned to the interior of the house to continue to enjoy the day

I am especially proud of June of Doom chapter 11 (Better known as Doc Has a Stroke literally). It took me two months to write, and it is still the longest one chapter I ever wrote (3k words). Also! I am afraid of hospitals and blood, so I have no idea how I wrote it. Also believe it or not, it was inspired by the animated series...

One more writing project I am proud of is Alteration. It is not because of how much I wrote, but how much I am still planning, and how many Ideas I have for it. I have every single detail planned :)

With art it's a bit more tricky. Since I am not THAT proud of any of them, but BTTF 2 end scene redraw is still one of my favs :)

Celebrating Christmas in the Philippines: The Christmas Capital of Asia (Part 2)

This is a second part of a longer post on Christmas in the Philippines. Part 1 can be found here.

(Also I know this is a little late, had some personal stuff this holiday season so sowwyy)

Practices in the Present Day

Christmas traditions today are a mixture of both traditionally Hispanic and American practices with some new and additional modern things added in from the past century. Most of these traditions are still done by a lot of Filipino families today and continue to be icons in Filipino culture.

The Longest Christmas

It is well-known that the Philippines starts the Christmas traditions on the 1st of September, making it the earliest start of the any Christmas season in the world. This comes from a lot of factors, primarily because Filipinos love the idea of counting down the 100 days before then (which start at the 16th of September), and was later on used in other settings like when people would put up decorations in their own homes and in businesses encouraging the later commercialized holiday to also start early with sales and other deals (Handong, 2017). This later made it sort of official that Christmas would start on September, earning the season the colloquial name "The Ber Months" or "The Ber Season".

As I said in a previous post, however, actual celebrations often start after undas and more specifically after the start of Advent and more intensely during the start of Simbang Gabi or Misa de Gallo on the 16th of December and you would be hard-pressed to actually find people celebrating before then.

It doesn't stop people from having online count downs with Jose Mari Chan's infamous Christmas song "Christmas in our Hearts" in the background (that had been memed on in the Philippines on the scale of "All I want for Christmas is You" in America) on the 31st of August to midnight to greet the 1st of September though.

24th as the Day of Celebration

Other practices that Filipinos inherited from the Spanish from this time was the practice of mostly celebrating the holiday on the eve of instead of the actual day of the 25th. This comes from an older Roman Catholic tradition of having Christmas mass from night time to the next day based on the traditional belief that Jesus was born on exactly midnight on the 25th (The Pillar, 2021). Celebrations like Christmas Eve dinner (the Noche Buana) and gift giving happen during this time with gift opening happening during the stroke of midnight.

Personal side-note, since I'm not gonna add a final section detailing more personal stuff here because it's getting too long: as a kid, I was always confused at American TV shows that showed people sleeping at night before opening up presents in the morning. It never really registered and I always questioned why they had to wait 'til morning for them to open presents. because of this, the whole Santa Claus thing didn't make sense to me either.

Simbang Gabi

Similar to most Christian countries from the 16th to the 18th Century, the Philippines celebrated Christmas as a religious holiday focused on prayer and masses, often seen in the form of Simbang Gabi or Misa de Gallo which I had discussed in full detail with its history and current practices here. The basics of it is that Filipinos would celebrate Christmas and the lead-up to the holiday by going to church every day for nine days until the 25th starting on the 16th. The practice was brought over by the Spaniards as it can be seen practiced or some form of it practiced in Spain and a few other Hispanic countries.

Other than just church-going, Simbang Gabi is also famous for its many foods that had come to be strongly tied to the event, mostly rice cakes that are sold outside of churches early in the morning and late at night like Puto Bumbong, Bibingka, Sapin-sapin, and many more.

The Parol or The Star Lantern

One of the most recognizable symbols of the Filipino Christmas is the star lantern known as parols that often can be seen decorating the houses of Filipinos of all different backgrounds. According to Giselle Tong-Walters of the Association for the Advancement of Filipino American Arts and Culture or FilAm Arts, the parol predates Spanish colonization as precolonial Filipinos would often hang lanterns on their homes at night to tell any traveler that may have seen it that they are welcome to seek refuge there (Dormido, 2023).

Others note that the parol had taken inspiration from the Mexican piñata which had originally come from Spain that had come from Italy some time in the 1300s and was said to have been first used in the Philippines as a light-source to guide people early in the morning during Simbang Gabi which remains the popular origin for the parol today (MyParol, n.d.).

The modern parol is said to have been first created by Kapampangan artist Francisco Estanislao in 1908 by using the traditional five-point design by using Bamboo strips and Japanese paper which was later done with the use of the newly created material cellophane as well as the increased use of electric lights that made the star lanterns that Filipinos are familiar with today (Tapino, 2018).

Today many variants of the lantern exists including more and more complicated designs with even the use of sea shells being fairly common.

The Nativity or Belen Display

Like a lot of religious Christian places or former religious Christian places, the nativity is a common sight during the Christmas season with some families owning their own personal display and communities typically having larger ones in their centers. Some people create more handcrafted versions if they don't have the money to buy their own set and some communities may even hold competitions to see who could make the most creative ones.

Noche Buena

Just like the Spanish, Filipinos celebrate Christmas with a Christmas feast on noche buena (en. the good night) or Christmas Eve with itself as noche buena instead of referring to it as the dinner on noche buena. This particular naming quirk extends over for New Year's Eve Dinner being called medianoche despite the word simply referring to midnight.

The reason for this may come from the fact that Filipinos had gravitated more to using the literal terms with Bisperas ng Pasko and Bisperas ng Bagong Taon (en. The day/night before Christmas and The day/night before the New Year) which made noche buena and medianoche redundant, later tying them to specifically refer to the dinner, although that's more speculation on my part.

The practice, of course, had come from Spain some time during the 17th Century when it was first exported the empire's colonies through Roman Catholicism (Paz, 2022). The dinner was marked with lots of food and may include multiple families eating together.

Typical food found during Noche Buena include the hamon (glazed ham), lechon (roasted pig), lumpia (spring rolls), leche flan (milk flan), graham cake, and queso de bola (a special cheese ball), among many other foods. These food are also the same or similar food that are served during medianoche or New Year's Eve Dinner.

Gift-giving and the aguinaldo or the pamasko

Gift giving is often done on the 24th, typically after either Christmas Eve mass or Noche Buena. Most families would wait until midnight as the date goes to the 25th in order to open presents with the typical Christmas gift giving flair.

Besides the gifts themselves, it's tradition for godparents to give money to their godchildren in red packets we call ampao, with this being called the aguinaldo or the pamasko. The practice originated from Chinese-Filipino communities who would often do this for Chinese New Year's which later spread to non-Chinese communities who instead would give the red envelopes during Christmas (Ki, 2019). Although some may think that the money giving stops after adulthood, some godparents

Christmas Caroling

Christmas Caroling in the Philippines typically start at the beginning of the Simbang Gabi and ends on the 24th, with some caroling much earlier, where children to full adult groups may go door to door to carol for candy, food, or money. Children often go in groups and sing the typical Filipino Christmas songs with makeshift instruments such as tambourines made out of cans and small metal bits to make sounds, while teenagers and adult groups may go around from house to house with guitars and other portable instruments in order to receive cash.

The songs that they sing may range from traditional Filipino songs or modern Christmas songs from both local and international places.

I don't have a source for this one since I do want to look more into the history of Christmas Caroling in the Philippines maybe next year so enjoy this other video of a group of guys dancing Jingle Bells posted by SG TV (2019).

Side Story: I used to spend Christmas with my, honestly, wealthier grandmother and it wasn't uncommon for carolers to go up our door and just sing for candy or money. It often started on the 16th because caroling wasn't allowed any time before that. We used to have a weird little rule that children would get candy, while teenagers and adults will get money. Teenage boys would come around as whole groups with guitars and sing for money, while kids didn't mind the candy. After a while, there would be times that different people in the house would give candy away so we weren't able to keep track of which kid had already gone to our house. It wasn't until one of the people who worked for my grandma recognized a couple of kids that we realized that they've just been going around the neighborhood before doing another round when people may had already forgotten them. Honestly, I'm a little impressed.

Panunuluyan

The Panunuluyan is a traditional play that reenacts the night of Jesus' birth where Mary and Joseph were trying to seek shelter (NCCA Official, 2015). The name comes from the Filipino word tuloy which although typically mean "to continue" is used in this context to mean "to allow in" or "to enter in" referring to guests or visitors entering someone's home. Schools and churches typically do this play as part of their Christmas festivities but it isn't as common as it was in the past (Tan, 2016).

Panunuluyan is also called by different names such as Panawagan (en. announcement) in Cavite and Batangas, Kagharong in the Bikol region, and daigon, pakaon, and patores in Visayan speaking regions (NCCA Official, 2015).

Side story: I had a queer classmate who played Mary in one of these plays against their will in a seminary house production because their mom just said so and the place didn't had any afab people (because seminary house obv), and they ended up falling in love with the guy who played Joseph, serving as the only male crush they have ever had. Hilariously, on a seminary boy meaning a dude who wants to be a priest. I feel bad for them...

The Feast of the Three Kings

Observed every 6th of January, the Epiphany or the Feast of the Three Kings is a religious observation that marks the formal end of the Christmas season in the Philippines. In the current day, most communities simply go to church to celebrate the epiphany, it was once a common practice to have a large celebration during the day which involves three people dressed up as the three kings, riding horses to the local church, distributing gifts to the townspeople. This practice is still done in some communities in the country today (Primer, 2021).

From photos I've seen of some of the festivities, two members of the three may put on blackface and/or redface to symbolize all three magis who are typically shown as having different skin tones as seen in the previously linked article from Primer, although some places instead have children play the parts of the magi without any blackface or redface.

Closing

As a kid, Christmas has always been special to me and now that I'm older, it's gotten a lot less cheery as all young adults may feel with the season getting less about joy and presents and more about either work and expenses. That sorta happened here when I was initially rushing this even when I was not in the mental headspace for it so taking a break was almost mandatory. I definitely feel a little bummed that I wasn't able to finish this the day of, but I can't really change it as much.

And seeing him work can be the hottest thing ever because some of his characters are the polar opposite of him.

‘Did you like watching me at work today?’ ‘Yeah.’ ‘Is that why you couldn’t stop squirming in your seat?’ ‘Maybe.’ ‘Maybe I can find you something better to sit on.’ ‘Thomas!’

You wouldn’t officially decide to move in together. 

You just sorta stayed over one night and never left. 

Eventually, he’d just say fuck it and make you move all your stuff to his. 

He’s desperate to get married and start a family. 

But he’d 100% wait until you were ready. 

And once he knew he’d take you totally by surprise. 

He’d love to plan the wedding. 

Basically the only bit he wasnt involved in was your dress. 

And he’d love to introduce you as ‘my wife’.

Your honeymoon would be a once-in-a-lifetime treat. 

And definitely designed so that you didn't have to leave your room to enjoy the view. 

He’d knock you up pretty much straight away. 

But you didn’t care. 

He’d be the greatest help when you were pregnant. 

He’d go all out decorating the nursery, catering to your every need, and making sure he was prepped for the delivery. 

And he would take to being a dad straight away. 

You’d love to watch him with your bundle of joy. 

Singing them to sleep. Endless hours of playing. Piggyback rides.

ADVENT CALENDAR OF IMAGINES

We have this tradition in Scandinavia where we watch TV advent calendars during December. One storyline cut into 24 parts with one part airing every day between December 1st and Christmas Eve.

I brought this tradition with me when I moved to the US and roped my SO into participating. The problem is that the advent calendars are rarely shown outside of Scandinavia, and my SO doesn't speak my native language, nor either of the other Scandinavian languages.

I've been doing live translations of the shows for a couple of years (including one that wasn't in my native language, that was fun! 😅) but it's stressful and I can't eat my dessert while doing so. So this year we've rigged some auto-generated subtitles. And they are very hit and miss, to the point where some of the mistranslations are hilarious.

We've been laughing for days at 'farting' being translated to 'butt noises'.

A teacher said "let's go, bitches!" to her students. In reality she said 'let's go, girls'

A mom called her son and his classmates 'little pussies'. She used the word 'pussenusser' which is a term of endearment with no real meaning. The translation still left me wheezing.

But after bitch, pussies, and whore (correctly translated), the translation chickened out when a kid used 'shit' and translated it with 'crap' ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I did a draft diagram of key issues with historical context (because hi it’s me lol and this time I am determined to be a Good Client so that this helps unlike most previous therapy) and now I’m just tweaking it slightly for detail AND clarity and now I’m in hell. This paragraph tells you most things you’d need to know about me.

Watched part one of The Crown (which 🤷🏻‍♀️ for comment another time) and now my Netflix screensaver is basically a montage of every film or tv show featuring either the real Diana or fake Dianas and it’s a lot.
