Addictions Counseling Sacramento | Drug Counseling Services
Alcohol and other drug addiction is a disease. Sadly, this disease often convinces its victim that he or she does not need help. It can also convince the family that trying to help is futile. Although there is no question this is a life-threatening illness, difficult to treat, without guarantees of success, there is also no doubt that an individual can recover. In my experience, the difference is often as simple as a willingness to try something new. Honesty, openness, and willingness are key ingredients to success.

Residential Rehabilitation: A Haven for Healing
Tumblr media
Have you or someone you care about been struggling with addiction, feeling like there's no way out? Residential Rehabilitation, often referred to as inpatient treatment, offers a sanctuary for individuals seeking to break free from the chains of addiction and embark on a journey of healing and renewal. In the United States, where substance abuse continues to exact a heavy toll on individuals and communities, residential rehab centers serve as beacons of hope, providing comprehensive support and resources to guide individuals toward lasting recovery. Let's delve into the world of residential rehabilitation and explore how it can be a transformative step towards a brighter future.
Understanding Residential Rehabilitation
Residential rehabilitation is a comprehensive form of addiction treatment that provides individuals with a supportive and structured environment to focus solely on their recovery. Unlike outpatient programs where individuals return home after treatment sessions, residential rehab requires participants to reside at the treatment facility for the duration of their program, typically ranging from 30 to 90 days or longer.
The Immersive Experience
Residential rehab offers an immersive experience that allows individuals to immerse themselves fully in the recovery process. By residing at the facility 24/7, participants are removed from the triggers and temptations of their everyday environment, creating a safe and supportive space where they can focus on their healing journey without distractions.
Structured Schedule: Residential rehab programs follow a structured daily schedule, incorporating a combination of therapy sessions, educational workshops, recreational activities, and downtime for reflection and self-care. This structured approach helps individuals establish healthy routines and habits conducive to sobriety.
Round-the-Clock Support: One of the key advantages of residential rehab is access to round-the-clock support from trained professionals who are available to provide guidance, encouragement, and assistance whenever needed. Whether it's addressing cravings, managing withdrawal symptoms, or navigating emotional challenges, individuals have access to support every step of the way.
Peer Support: Residential rehab fosters a sense of camaraderie and connection among participants, allowing them to form bonds with peers who understand their struggles and can offer empathy, encouragement, and accountability. These peer relationships often extend beyond the confines of treatment, providing a valuable support network in the journey of recovery.
The Benefits of Residential Rehabilitation
Choosing residential rehabilitation offers a multitude of benefits that can significantly enhance an individual's chances of achieving and maintaining sobriety. From intensive therapy to holistic wellness activities, residential rehab addresses the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of addiction, setting the stage for long-term recovery success.
Comprehensive Treatment Approach
Residential rehab programs employ a comprehensive treatment approach that addresses the multifaceted nature of addiction. Through a combination of evidence-based therapies, medical interventions, and holistic wellness practices, individuals receive personalized care tailored to their unique needs and circumstances.
Therapeutic Interventions: Residential rehab offers a wide range of therapeutic interventions, including individual counseling, group therapy, family therapy, and specialized modalities such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and trauma-informed care. These therapies help individuals explore the underlying issues contributing to their addiction, develop coping skills, and cultivate resilience in the face of challenges.
Medical Support: In addition to therapeutic interventions, residential rehab programs provide access to medical care and supervision to ensure the safety and well-being of participants. This may include medical detoxification for individuals with substance dependence, medication management for co-occurring mental health disorders, and ongoing monitoring of physical health throughout the treatment process.
Holistic Wellness Activities: Recognizing the importance of addressing the mind, body, and spirit in recovery, residential rehab programs incorporate holistic wellness activities such as yoga, mindfulness meditation, art therapy, nutrition education, and fitness classes. These activities promote overall well-being and empower individuals to cultivate a balanced and healthy lifestyle in sobriety.
Relapse Prevention Strategies
Residential rehab equips individuals with the tools, strategies, and resources needed to prevent relapse and maintain sobriety in the long term. Through education, skill-building exercises, and ongoing support, participants learn to identify triggers, manage cravings, and navigate high-risk situations without turning to substances.
Relapse Prevention Education: Residential rehab programs provide comprehensive education on the nature of addiction, the cycle of relapse, and the importance of developing coping skills and healthy coping mechanisms. By understanding the factors that contribute to relapse, individuals can proactively address potential triggers and stressors in their environment.
Skill-Building Exercises: Residential rehab teaches practical skills and techniques to help individuals cope with cravings, manage stress, and navigate interpersonal relationships in sobriety. These skills may include assertiveness training, problem-solving skills, communication skills, and stress management techniques.
Aftercare Planning: As individuals prepare to transition out of residential rehab, treatment teams work collaboratively with participants to develop personalized aftercare plans tailored to their specific needs and goals. These plans may include ongoing therapy, participation in support groups, medication management, vocational training, and housing assistance to support individuals in their continued recovery journey.

HOW CAN COUNSELLING HELP
What is Counselling?
Counselling Central Coast is about finding truth and meaning within your inner self. Working with your inner resources to assist you in the healing process. What most people believe about ‘deep introspection’ is that we all need to meditate like monks to achieve a high level of awareness.
Although this is partly true, all we need to do is to take that first step in exploring our deep inner self. We access our unconscious mind through deep introspection and reflection, with the assistance of a therapist.
Counselling Services in Central Coast is about feeling safe and comfortable expressing emotions and concerns without being judged. The wisdom of the adult self holds all the wisdom we need for healing. You can be of any religion, culture or race to receive the benefits of this Counselling Therapy.
For Counselling Therapy in Central Coast and Sydney, please give us a call if you have a particular issue not listed above. Once you give us a call, we can discuss the process of Counselling. We can discuss if this therapy is appropriate for you and work out ways to assist in constructing a plan for change.
RELATIONSHIP COUNSELLING
Marriage, divorce and separation anxiety
Anxiety and Depression can be experienced when we’re having relationship issues. It may be a breakup, going through a divorce, or a very hard separation. Marriage can also trigger feelings of uncertainty and anxiety. Depression can set in when our expectations of marriage have not been met. If you’re experiencing emotional abuse, physical abuse, and domestic violence, just know that you are not alone. With Counselling, we can help you overcome these issues, working through new strategies to overcome your challenges. So you can feel confident and empowered to move forward with positivity and certainty.
TRAUMA, STRESS AND ANXIETY
Trauma and Abandonment in children
In childhood, some of us have experienced trauma or abandonment. We refer to these conditions as Attachment Theory. Attachment Theory is grouped into three categories.
Anxious Attachment is associated with a negative self-image, where an individual seeks the approval of others. The individual anticipates fears of rejection and abandonment.
Avoidant or Ambivalence Attachment is characterised by a negative image of others, a withdrawal from society with a fear of depending too much on others.
Secure Attachment is about long-term relationships based on trust. Where an individual has high self-esteem, seeks out social support, overly shares feelings with other people and seeks approval from others for self-esteem.
Perhaps a carer abandoned you as a child, or we may have not matured as an adult. The neurosis then starts to manifest as a young adult. Whatever the child is lacking in development, the person compensates by seeking relationships that give them what they lack. It’s the inner paradigm of the individual that acts out as a behaviour.
This inner world then reflects its beliefs as a projection to the outside world. This, therefore, creates unhealthy relationships of co-dependency, isolation and neediness. This behaviour can be a burden on another person, friend or family member. This can continue as a behavioural addiction that can manifest as sex addiction. drug/alcohol addiction and work addiction, which can develop as undesirable behaviours.
Here at Awareness Healing, you are not alone. We offer safe and non-judgemental therapies that will help the person develop parts of themselves that were not developed as a young person or child.

My mental health walk really gives me the best ideas for AUs.
Like: Batfam Dune AU.
Duke Wayne has been sent to Arrakis due to the previous Duke's disappearance. He is joined by his dear mental ser and (Alfred Pennyworth) whose secret ability allows him to act as the m best spy on Wayne's service, and also his official mentat Gordon. The old man is one of his closest friends, and one of the few people he can trust. Gordon's daughter Barbara joins the Bene Gesserit for a while instead of going with them
During her stay with the sisters, Barbara finds out about Cassandra: a Bene Gesserit genetic marvel. She's their most promising student, if it wasn't for the father's demands that her vocal cords be cut. He visits her from time to time, checking on the progress for his beloved weapon.
Barbara also figures out while studying with the sisters about the true properties of the Spice, knowing none of his old friends and family would be able to leave planet again. Not without being already addicted to it. In her studying, she find out about a plot against her old Duke. Realizing it could be her father's death, she decides to graduate early, steal a child prodigy and make for Arrakis.
When she arrives it's too late, she already knew it would be (it had been years) but she had to at least try. Duke Wayne welcomes her and her stolen charge as his personal truth sayers. His protection keeps Cain and the sisters away from Cassandra, but Barbara makes sure to keep them both protected from the spice, wearing filters under their hoods and veils to keep it out.
Meanwhile, on camp Wayne. He adopts two kids. The first one is a Fremen boy whose parents had been wrongfully killed. The second a stray kid from the streets of Arrakeen that almost stole his water. He personally trains them both, the kids already proving proficient in the blade. Richard is really observant and great at playing people, he lights every room he steps in and is as cutting with words as with the blade. Jason is more reserved, losing himself to his books, reading the diaries of previous inhabitants and counseling his Duke.
After loosing his dear friend that first year, Duke Wayne soon finds need for a new mentat. The solution comes from the hands of the arbiter of Change, the lady Janet Drake, and her husband the water merchant. Their boy, though very young, shows great aptitude. Ridding themselves from him would also allow them to further pursue their studies deep in the desert. Enter "born-on-plantet" Timothy Drake with the most unsettling blue eyes ever seen.
He's not bad at it, but it's clear he's only as good as he is. Which is impressive for a self taught kid or a regular person, but not for a mentat. His actual talent is for the Bene Gesserit, so him and Lady Barbara made a bargain: she instructs him in the sisterhood's ways and he teaches him he father's trade. She soon surpasses both him and Pennyworth, becoming a force of nature. Richar is very in love thank you very much.
Tim also excels expectation, him and Cassandra becoming an unstoppable duo on their Duke's counsel. She can read truth like no other sister, and with Tim's impossible to discern lies, Wayne has all bases covered. Surrounded by his loyal and talented adoptive brood, not even his wife could stand a chance to trick him.
The beautiful sayyadina Thalia Al Ghul is a dangerous woman.the daughter of a Sui doctor and a fremen woman, she's too intelligent and charismatic to be anything other than deadly. Wayne knows to suspect her, even if he still knows not why. Little does he know, his wife turned coat for him a long time ago. She was meant to purposely create an abomination, a child that could be overtaken by the echoes of their ancestors. Instead, she delivered Damian Wayne, a perfectly lovely and healthy child. She still holds the intent to further the Fremen cause, but she would not sacrifice her child or beloved for it.
Joker would be some sort of madman, an average smuggler that got his thopter shot out of the sky. Everyone left him for dead, but he came back from the dessert, and he came back wrong. He portrays himself as a proper, rallying the worst people from the city and terrorizing Duke Wayne. One of his stunts leaves Lady Barbara paralized and he takes Jason to drop him on the dessert as was done to him. Duke Wayne almost loses himself to grief, but his son isn't gone.
Jason gets rescued by a handsome redhead smuggler that intends to get some hefty sum for taking him back to Arrakeen. On the way there, they flirt, very much Han Solo Leia vibes. Tragically they get caught in a sandstorm. After crash landing, Jason helps the pilot fix the thopter while the other man teaches him how to avoid calling worms. It is at this point that Jason starts feeling a little "huh?" Tugging at his brain. Turns out, the young man in front of him is the adoptive son of Duke Oliver, the previous Duke of Arrakis.
Once he gets found out, Roy is put in a nasty position, but Jason promises to not give them away. The previous Ducal family decided to help the Fremen retake the planet, but once the imperial authority started getting sus, they had to pretend to be dead and hide with their fellow Fremen. Lady Dinah, the Duke's consort was the only one left behind to act as a liaison between the palace and the Sietch.
Jason gets dropped back with his family, very flustered with his dessert encounter and quickly re-reading Roy's diary. Also I need him to send little notes to Roy through Dinah and Talia anytime the Reverend Mothers trade places. Dinah thinks it's adorable but Talia is already planning his adored son's wedding. Also it helps with her strategy: converting the Duke's children to the Fremen cause. She knows that if she went straight to him he'd say something along the lines of "but the Fremen kill people" but if she manages to keep pulling them into their cause he'll eventually see reason.
Roy's accidental conversion sparks a new idea, and the little girl Talia had been training in the ways of the sayyadina became her best play. She sends Stephanie to seduce Tim into the cause and accidentally drags Cass with her. Dick is obviously very easy to convince, and he's probably been in the plot for a very long while, being friends with Roy and Kori. Damian is literally born into the plot.
I could go on and on and on. Duke should also be Fremen, but raised in a Sietch. He gets adopted once Bruce actually agrees to join the cause (I promise you it's not a "Beloved I got u another child as a thank u" situation). Duke is very much not impressed by Bruce, and instead constantly pesters Tim and Cass to learn their secret techniques. Bruce is fascinated by the Fremen resourcefulness and customs. Where Oliver joined the cause out of outrage for the way the Fremen are treated in their own planet, Bruce joins out of love for their culture. There's plenty of comedy there, especially once Jason and Roy reunite -both older- and it turns into a matter of "not with his son". Dinah and Talia have already organized the wedding reception and Lian is helping with decorations. Also, Damian grows up to be a doctor like his mama and grandfather.

Chapter 17A: Never Tear Us Apart
Tumblr media
New York City ||| September 1988
I was standing You were there Two worlds collided And they could never tear us apart…
 - “Never Tear Us Apart”, INXS (1988) [click here to listen]
~~~~~
The taxi glided to a stop in front of the Plaza Hotel. A bellman opened the door before the passenger finished paying the driver. With a quick thanks the passenger exited the taxi, squinting in the early afternoon sunshine, nodding a hello at the bellman and his top hat.
Quietly the man entered the hotel and crossed the lobby.
“Hello,” he greeted the woman standing behind the Guest Services desk. “I’m here to see Colum Laird.”
“Certainly. Your name, sir?”
The man pulled a business card from the breast pocket of his blazer.
Raymond Germain, MD
Private Counseling
New York City
“One moment, please.” The woman dialed a string of digits, speaking softly into the phone.
Raymond waited, glancing around the lobby. A cluster of photographers sat, bored, around a side table. Several young men and women with spiky hair and leather jackets stood in another corner, some clutching record albums and permanent markers. Two women in low cut dresses primped in front of their hand mirrors.
“Dr. Germain? Mr. Laird is ready to see you. Please follow my colleague.”
A man, dressed in a smart suit, appeared seemingly out of the wall. “Right this way, sir.”
Raymond followed him across the lobby, through a set of double doors marked STAFF ONLY, and into an elevator bank.
“The band has booked the entire northwest corner of the sixteenth floor,” the man explained. “It’s configured in such a way to provide total privacy. This elevator is the only way to get up there.”
“I see.” Raymond shifted on his feet, sliding his hands into the pockets of his slacks. “How long have they been staying here?”
The elevator arrived, and the man gestured for Raymond to enter. “Three nights so far. From what I understand, they’ve played two sellouts at Madison Square Garden. With the final show tonight.”
The man pressed 16, and the doors slid shut.
“How have they been as guests?”
The man smiled. “It’s hotel policy to not comment on any guest who stays here. But what I will tell you, is that it’s much more sedate than the last time they stayed with us, in ’86. The entire fifteenth floor had to be re-carpeted.”
The doors opened onto a hallway. A short, middle-aged man with shoulder-length graying hair stood in the elevator lobby. A dozen doors trailed away in the corridor behind him.
“Dr. Germain.” He extended a hand in greeting. “Welcome.”
“Mr. Laird. Colum. Call me Raymond, please. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
The elevator doors slid shut, leaving Colum and Raymond in the hallway.
“Well, Raymond – thank you for coming. I know getting up here is a bit unorthodox – but it’s the only way to ensure total privacy. Things have been a bit of a zoo this summer.”
Raymond smiled kindly. “I truly can’t imagine.”
Colum sighed, wiping his eyes. “Fortunately it’s been a bit of a quiet morning. The band and the crew are pretty exhausted.”
A crash from behind the closest door. Followed by a man’s voice, and a woman’s high-pitched giggle.
Colum smiled tightly. “Pay no attention to Angus. His only vice is women - he’s had a menage-a-trois going all tour.”
“I see,” Raymond remarked quietly. Not quite seeing at all.
Colum coughed. “Anyway, let me take you down the hall. They’re waiting.”
Dougal MacKenzie had not provided many specifics about Jamie and Claire Fraser. The broad strokes, of course – that both had been patients at The Ridge last year; that his addictions were alcohol and cocaine and women and hers were pills; that they had been married less than two months. That she was a surgeon.
Oh, and that he was the singer, guitarist, and chief songwriter of just about the biggest rock band in the world.
Raymond hadn’t a clue about Jamie’s music. But Dougal had said it wouldn’t matter. And in more than ten years of knowing each other, Dougal had proved to have impeccable instincts.
Colum knocked on the final door in the hallway. Muffled voices – and then a beautiful woman opened the door.
“You must be Dr. Germain.” She extended a warm hand in greeting. “Pleasure to meet you. I’m Claire Fraser.”
Raymond took her hand between both of his. “Raymond. And the pleasure is all mine, Dr. Fraser.”
She smiled kindly, surprised. “Claire, please.” She tilted her head, just a bit. “Have we met before?”
Raymond returned her smile. “I don’t think so. I’m sure I would remember.”
Colum quietly stepped away and padded down the hallway.
Claire gestured behind her. “Please do come in.”
to be continued…
🎮🩹🩸💯🎄---for Mr Tommy Riley (yes, I consider him your oc) (yes, I picked the Christmas tree on purpose mwah 🫰)
(from this meme)
Heehee hii womby!! Snatching Thomas E. Riley from Lapham's cold, dead hands after Szilvi's oviraptor attack squad is done with him. I'm so happy you asked heehee
(and oh, so you're evil? You're evil, now? you're sick and twisted and evil?)
🎮 VIDEO GAME CONTROLLER — what are three of your oc's favorite hobbies?
Being a munch Although it was initially going to be his career (tattoo artist Tommy-truthers make some noise), I can see Tommy enjoying art as a hobby and way to relax/clear his head. He never used to draw a lot of people before, focusing instead on other popular subjects for tattoo designs such as ships and snakes and tigers. But his newer sketchbooks feature a lot more of Beth and Joseph, with a few of Simon and his mum interspersed between his studies of household items and appliances.
Tommy is a Man U fan, as is family tradition. I count football fanaticism as a hobby because have you seen these people. Do you understand the dedication to know so much about all those balls and points and such? Dear god. Tommy, Simon, and Beth on footie nights out were terrifying concepts, many Chelsea fans mauled. Sad!
It mightn't be strictly a hobby, but I can see Tommy redirecting any pent up energy towards making small renovations in his home/his mum's home, or even woodworking and making things like a jewellery box for Beth, or little carved nativity scene for Joseph's nursery class. Man works with his hands and his thoughts can get a bit much at times, so may as well redirect towards something productive, as he's been taught (even if this does encroach into dysfunction territor when he's working to exhaustion so he doesn't dream when he finally sleeps).
🩹 ADHESIVE BANDAGE — does your oc have any physical and/or mental disabilities?
I can see Tommy having chronic pain from his back injury and the resultant muscle strain and poor healing that came of it. Nothing a couple heat pads and, uh, working a labour intensive job can't fix...
Between drug addiction and childhood trauma, it's not out of the picture for Tommy to also have developed PTSD/CPTSD from his experiences. For a myriad of reasons (potential access to counselling, access to familial support, not being autistic, not being in the military) it's not as extreme as Simon's, and so his emotional intelligence isn't as stunted, but he's still very much living with the effects of being physically and verbally abused as a child, as well as being addicted to opiates in the past, far into adulthood. Again, has better tools to cope with it, but Tommy isn't perfect, and I can see most of his symptoms manifesting in fawning responses than Simon's fight.
Tommy also has leanings towards depression, and there are times when his mental health declines to the point of it being disabling. I don't see him being diagnosed with depression, nor complex PTSD, as the NHS mental health services are in fucking shambles and some doctors mightn't even recognise the latter in his time.
🩸 DROP OF BLOOD — what is your oc's blood type?
So. I don't have a clear answer to this, because I need to know what Simon's blood type is, and it's not listed anywhere. I think there is a fun off-stage/underlying tragedy in Simon and Tommy having incompatible blood types, in that even if Simon had gotten to the flat in time, he wouldn't have been able to 'save' Tommy via donating blood. Something something, the nature of tragedy so deeply set in Ghost's being that it's biological.
Perhaps it's campy, perhaps it's too much, but whatever‼️my oc now.
💯 HUNDRED POINTS SYMBOL — share three random facts about your oc that others may not know.
TOMMY IS THE YOUNGER BROTHER! The wiki is LYING the comics confirm so here:
Tommy is 6'2" and lanky as anything, and unless his brother is on leave, he tends to be the tallest person in the room, bless. Additionally, I can see Tommy having insane forearm and grip strength just from being a tradesman for the better guts of a decade.
Some people have noticed, but Tommy doesn't drink alcohol at all in 'I Wait For You', which is on purpose. He's chosen not to drink, in spite of Britain's heavy drinking culture, as a means of preventing any reliance/gateways, as well as the fact that he doesn't like getting drunk, anyways, primarily because of bad memories of his father after one too many drinks.
🎄 CHRISTMAS TREE — what is your oc's favorite holiday?
Of course it's christmghjgkfgwlisfhdn-
Tumblr media
(jokes aside I can see Tommy not having a favourite holiday until he's an adult and meets Beth and falls in love with her, and they eventually have a family together. Then his favourite holiday becomes Mother's Day.)
Augh thank you for the ask :'D It reminded me i have very big feelings about Tommy Riley and his everything, and now my chest hurts heehee
