Does a USB drive get heavier as you store more files on it?
Nope. Paradoxically (and theoretically), the more you save on a flash drive, the lighter it gets.
USB drives use Flash memory, which means the the ones and zeros of the data are stored on transistors.
When you save data, a binary zero is set by charging the float gate of the transistor, and a binary one is set by removing the charge.
To charge it, we add electrons, and the mass of each electron is 0.00000000000000000000000000091 grams.
This means that an empty USB drive (which mostly holds zeros) weighs more than a full USB drive (which has ones and zeros). Add data, reduce the weight.

"There was a SCSI version of Elecom's useless product that makes a cable look like a different cable by attaching it to the connector, so I bought it. It's not a half width, but a full width 50 pin, and it sticks out past the width of the phone. Crazy."

After almost 17 literal years, I'm finally planning to buy myself a new computer. Just waiting to get my income tax money in March. The dinosaur is still in decent working condition, but it's time to let her rest. She's served me very well over the past decade and a half, and it's going to be the hardest thing giving her up. But at this point it's time to upgrade
#tbh I really dont want to but Im tired of being scared that ''todays the day she doesnt work anymore'' each time I press the power button#and I've had to keep buying accessories to make my pc function like a normal one#the best example is the little internet router I had to buy to connect to the internet without the ethernet cable being plugged in#and the mini dvd player I needed to download the driver for said router because the player built into my pc doesn't work anymore#also my copy of windows 7 on the pc 'isn't genuine'' as the notifications always say so that causes issues#and my datemate's new drawing tablet isn't compatible with my dinosaur for basically no considerable reason other than that#so yeah its time to upgrade#now I could get a laptop. however they die too quickly for my liking/are too fragile#so I'm going to get another tower#aiming to get one with a lit of storage space so I can animate and do video edits#and so I can play games#like webkinz lmao#literally the whole time I've had my pc webkinz never ran properly on it. always takes FOREVER to load any aspect of the site#other sites it has no trouble with#and other computers never had trouble running webkinz#but my pc does#so now I can pkay that game again#and I can finally use my steam account to play more age appropriate stuff as well#sam's rants about life

Anybody know what Neo Geo Pocket Color system link cable this is?
I for some reason thought this sparkly purple 5-pin Neo Geo Pocket (Color) link cable I've had in the cupboard for years was a Nyko thing, but I can't find a photo that quite looks like it, and the only matches I've found for the "SL1638" code on both sides of both plugs of this one are a) an uncertain forum listing for a Madcow Sun Light https://www.neo-geo.com/forums/index.php?threads/neop-product-codes-required.85374/ (also lists a Madcow Link Cable but with a different code, "Madcow Link Cable LC-806," and I couldn't find anything about that), which may have got it from the listing b) here https://www.vidgame.net/SNK/NGPC.html for "3rd party worm light" (that one DOES kinda look like a Sun Light?) (Nyko made a "POWER WORM LIGHT" for NGPC but it has a very different plug housing and also an attached battery pack.) IGN mentions Nyko's POWERLINK (they call it "Power Link") NGPC cable was "bright purple" https://www.ign.com/articles/2000/01/15/power-link , but the only NGPC purple link cable mentioning Power Link or anything like it that I can find is this one https://www.gamevortex.com/gamevortex/hard_rev.php/237/power-link-ngpc.html , and the plastic housing around the plugs is different, and the write-up below the blurry photos showing a purple cable calls it "blue." I've found photos of a purple Nyko POWERLINK cable for GBC with multicolored plugs https://www.reddit.com/r/AnaloguePocket/comments/18brctf/i_wonder_if_this_24_year_old_powerlink_gameboy/ . Oh yeah and this blue Nyko NGPC POWERLINK System Link Cable: https://www.ebay.com/itm/226159408090 -- again, different plug housings. So what is this one? Nyko? Madcow? Something else?

What’s the Ideal Cable Management Solution for Large-Scale Events?
Organizing cables for a large-scale event is probably not the first thing on your mind when you’re planning a big concert, conference, or festival. However, it’s one of the most crucial aspects of ensuring everything runs smoothly. Cable management may seem like a minor detail, but it can make the difference between a seamless event and one full of technical mishaps. So, how do you manage hundreds, maybe even thousands, of cables in a way that keeps your event professional, safe, and efficient?
In this post, we’re diving into the best practices and solutions for cable management at large-scale events. From power cords to audio cables and everything in between, let’s look at how you can keep things neat, organized, and stress-free.
Why Cable Management Is Important
Before we jump into the specifics of managing your cables, let’s first talk about why it matters. At large-scale events, you’re dealing with tons of equipment that requires cables of all kinds—power, audio, video, lighting, and more. Poor cable management can lead to several problems:
Safety Hazards: Cables that are tangled or improperly secured can cause tripping hazards. This is particularly important when event attendees are moving around, and even more critical when the crew needs to work in dim lighting or a busy space.
Technical Issues: If cables are not organized, they can easily become damaged, resulting in audio dropouts, video feed interruptions, or even equipment failure. Proper cable management reduces the risk of these disruptions.
Efficiency: When you’re dealing with hundreds of cables, it can take forever to troubleshoot or repair a problem if things are messy. An organized setup allows quick fixes, saving valuable time during setup and tear-down.
So, let’s explore how to keep your cables in check at large-scale events.
Step 1: Plan Ahead for Cable Requirements
Planning is the key to any successful event, and cable management is no different. Start by assessing your equipment and identifying all the cables you’ll need. Make sure to take into account the power requirements of each device and the lengths of cables you’ll need to get from one piece of equipment to another.
Key Considerations:
Cable Lengths: Ensure you have cables of various lengths to avoid over-stretching or wasting excess cable.
Cable Types: Audio cables, power cables, HDMI or video cables, and network cables all have different requirements. Make sure you have the correct type for each connection.
Backup Cables: Always have spares on hand. There’s nothing worse than a technical issue with no replacement cable in sight.
Having a clear list of what you need will help prevent any last-minute scrambling when you’re in the middle of setting up.
Step 2: Invest in Quality Cables and Accessories
Once you know what types of cables you’ll need, it’s time to think about quality. Investing in quality cables can save you a lot of hassle later. While cheaper options might seem like a budget-friendly solution, they often result in damaged equipment, poor performance, and constant replacements. When you buy from professional audio shops or trusted suppliers, you’re more likely to get durable, high-quality cables that will last for many events.
In addition to cables, you should also invest in a few essential accessories to help you organize them:
Cable Ties and Velcro Straps: These are your best friends when it comes to keeping cables tidy. Velcro straps are particularly useful because they’re reusable and don’t damage cables like plastic ties can.
Cable Clips and Hooks: These can be used to secure cables along walls or to keep them off the ground.
Cable Trays or Raceways: These are perfect for larger events where you need to run cables along the floor or over a stage. They not only help keep things organized but also prevent tripping hazards.
Cable Bags or Boxes: At the end of the event, storing cables properly will keep them in good condition. Use bags or boxes to roll up and protect cables for future use.
Step 3: Use Cable Routing Systems
For large-scale events, it’s important to invest in a cable routing system. These systems can help keep cables out of sight while ensuring they’re still easily accessible when needed. Here are a few options:
Cable Raceways: These are channels that can be mounted along walls or ceilings, allowing cables to run in an organized manner while hiding them from view. Some raceways even come with covers to protect the cables from dust and damage.
Cable Tracks and Trays: These are especially useful for events with a lot of cables running along the floor. They help guide cables in a straight line and can prevent people from stepping on or tripping over them.
Cable Mats: If you have cables running across the floor, a cable mat is an excellent solution. These mats are designed to cover and protect cables while providing a non-slip surface. Some mats even come with built-in raceways to keep cables tucked away safely.
Cable routing systems help keep things looking neat and tidy, but they also offer a higher level of safety for event staff and attendees.
Step 4: Labeling and Color Coding
Imagine being in the middle of a live event and needing to troubleshoot a cable issue. If you don’t have the cables clearly labeled, this could take ages. This is why labeling cables is a game-changer for large-scale events.
Labels: Use durable labels on both ends of each cable to mark where it connects. This will save time during setup and allow the team to quickly spot any issues. If you're working with a huge amount of gear, a label maker can make the process much quicker and more consistent.
Color Coding: Color coding cables is another great way to stay organized. You can assign a specific color to each type of cable—audio cables in one color, power cables in another, etc. This makes it easier to spot and fix problems quickly.
Step 5: Setting Up Cable Paths During the Event
Once everything is set up, it’s important to plan how the cables will be used during the event itself. Try to keep them out of high-traffic areas to minimize the risk of accidents or interference with the event’s action.
Use Cable Ramps or Covers for Floor Cables: If you need cables running across the floor, make sure they’re covered by ramps or mats to prevent tripping.
Elevate Cables When Possible: Whenever possible, elevate cables off the ground to reduce wear and tear and to keep them organized.
Step 6: Post-Event Management
After the event wraps up, don’t let your cables get tossed into a pile. Proper post-event management is just as important as preparation. Clean, untangle, and store your cables in an organized manner to ensure they’re in good condition for the next event.
Final Thoughts
Efficient cable management can seem like a small part of a large-scale event, but trust me, it can make or break your event’s success. Proper organization ensures safety, reduces technical issues, and allows your event to run smoothly without unnecessary delays. By planning ahead, investing in quality gear, and using the right tools, you’ll keep everything looking professional and operating at its best. When purchasing cables and accessories, always consider purchasing from reputable audio shops like VIP PRO AUDIO. The right gear will not only help with your current event but will ensure that you’re prepared for future events, saving you time and stress in the long run.
