Last movie: Robin Hood 2010 because that movie slays so hard. they slapped Oscar isaac in blue contacts and called him English. Cate Blanchett plays Maid Marian. Baby Luke Evans is in there for two seconds. Matthew MacFadyen plays the sheriff of Nottingham and it's my favorite role of his. They use good sized war axes for the humans but also there are explosions?? And I'll say it, Russell Crowe is hot in it. And its not like I'm attracted to him, I just have eyes. and for some reason the way he calls her wife very nearly does something to me. which is huge.

Last TV show: Rosemary and Thyme. it was my fourth rewatch in the span of 3 months. Not a single regret.

Sweet/spicy/savory: SAVORYYY. Look I am a bread person, first and foremost. I make an olive, garlic, and Rosemary bread that you will sell your soul for. Sweet, I enjoy but I typically don't crave it. Spicy... I cant really do because honestly even too much pepper makes my throat want to kill me. Luckily I don't mind because I don't like the taste anyway. ooooh also I do eggs with diced tomatoes fried in butter which I salt, and then I scramble some eggs till they're way drier then I'd normally eat them (because no matter how much moisture you fry off the tomatoes, they'll still be wet and if the eggs are wet too, it's too wet) and then I add the tomatoes and whatever chopped lunchmeat I have and then a bit of grated cheddar and if I happen to have any goat cheese, I fling that in too and i could eat it for years. I'm sorry, I might be hungry.

Relationship status: single and unwilling to mingle. I'm aroace and so far haven't felt the need for a partner. I do have cats though. and technically dogs and sheep and ducks but those aren't really pets.

Last thing googled: uhhhhhhhh look my body made a wild change and I had to Google something insane and menstrual related. turns out I'm probably fine. Or as fine as you can be when your uterus is split into two parts, you're getting ovarian cramps at the wrong time of the month for that, and the... but no, I won't say.

Looking forward to: I have made several worrying purchases and I am looking forward to their arrival. I bought a whole bunch of red linen a while ago, intending to make myself an Edwardian skirt and jacket. When it arrived, it occurred to me that I didn't know enough about jacket construction to do it justice. So I commissioned a jacket from someone on Etsy and am now sincerely hoping beyond hope that it happens to match my fabric. Yeah.... And i also bought a cool Elizabethen-esque shift from Armstreet so that's exciting. No one should have given me access to money.

Current obsession: I'd say I don't really have one right now but considering I'm in my 11th Rosemary/Laura fanfic in four months when I previously averaged about four fics a year.... yeah... that.

I have a confession.

As my delightful mutuals probably know, I am Swedish. I am a proud Swede. I live in England though, hence the language (men jag förstår lite svenska också). Therefore, naturally I was happy when my homeland triumphed in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, mostly because my Swedish relatives FaceTimed me to celebrate the win and they were well and truly LEATHERED (and trust me, that is the truest form of entertainment).

As I’ve mentioned before, us Swedes are fucking FERAL when it comes to Eurovision, so the euphoria of the success coursed through my blood like opium. But much like opium, it skewed my perception of things. It blinded me to the true injustice of it all. It rendered me unable to recognise the truth: the fact that the true winner - Käärijä - was robbed of the title he truly deserved. His act had all the things that Eurovision is about: neon outfits fit for a dr Seuss character, lyrics that seem nonsensical but actually have meaning (and bonus, it’s not a depressing meaning), techno-metal mixed with a highly contrasting genre, slutty backup dancers, singing in Finnish, weird staging, etc. I could go on forever.

The point is, Käärijä slayed. He slayed hard. He slayed harder than Loreen could ever dream of. And I may not have registered it at the time, but looking back now, I realise that from the very first time cha cha cha blessed my ears, I was rooting for Finland, despite my Swedish bloodline. In fact, now I can admit that the aforementioned ‘euphoria’ I felt as the win was announced, was shallow. Deep down, I was actually disappointed. The more I think about it, the more I realise that our ‘win’ was a meaningless feat, fuelled by a jury of so called ‘experts’ who are probably mainly boring old sods with a poor music taste (not like that’s a new revelation - this is Eurovision ffs).

And because of that, I can now fully accept that the only real true winner of Eurovision Song Contest 2023 is Finland. So Käärijä, I speak on behalf of all Swedes (yes, all of them. The ones that disagree just aren’t as self aware and haven’t come to this conclusion yet. They’ll see the truth soon enough. Except for maybe Loreen, which is fair enough) when I say that we collectively give YOU the official title of “Eurovision Song Contest 2023 winner” that you so deserve. We didn’t want it anyway. We have ABBA, it’s not like we can ever beat that.

Nick: “American Girl” - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. He’ll dedicate this one to Abi and play a whole lot of clumsy but enthusiastic air guitar during the instrumental breaks. He’ll also do really on-the-nose inside joke choices like “Werewolves of London” by Warren Zevon (he'll change 'London' to 'Melbourne' because he's really lame) or “Once Bitten, Twice Shy” by Great White.

Emma: “Style” - Taylor Swift. She just reads as a Taylor girlie to me and this one’s a classic. She could do "We Are Never Getting Back Together" but Jacob might cry. So, "Style" it is. Not too tough in range and it doesn’t require her to do the cringey rap-talking part she’d have to do if she picked “Shake It Off” (although that one would also be fun and maybe if Abi gets drunk enough she’ll join Emma onstage and do that part for her).

Jacob: he wants to pick “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey but it has been banned because basic bitches like him just keep singing it. If he’s still moping about Emma, he might choose “Somebody to Love” by Queen. If someone else gets to it first, then it’s The Killers' “Mr. Brightside” all the way until the bar bans that one too.

Kaitlyn: she almost always picks a song you can scream-sing to. She has some rage to get out, okay? Her go-to is either "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" by Joan Jett or "You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morissette. If you get enough alcohol in her for her to get in her feelings though, she might do Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart," as a treat.

Laura: "Dog Days are Over" - Florence + The Machine. Is that another werewolf joke? Yes, yes it is. She can't help being overjoyed to say goodbye to the (meat)dog days. She'd probably also absolutely crush "Help I'm Alive" by Metric.

Max: I will never recover from the post that said Max and Dylan would know every step from the JustDance version of “Rasputin” by Boney M (which I think is completely correct) so I’m picking that one for Max. However, if he gets a second song or he’s feeling extremely sentimental, he might do the Michael Bublé version of “L.O.V.E.” for Laura.

Abi: I think Abi's actual musical listening tastes might be a little moodier than this, but for karaoke she wants it light and easy, and it doesn't get much lighter or easier than ABBA. "Dancing Queen" or "Mamma Mia." She'd really like it if Emma would come sing backup for her so she doesn't have to go up by herself.

Dylan: He never does the same song twice; he wants everyone to be surprised every time. He's done Lady Gaga's "Poker Face. He's done "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" by Panic! At the Disco." He's done Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream." Tonight, it's "Still Into You" by Paramore.

Ryan: He can't believe he got talked into this. Ryan hates attention and doesn't really love the sound of his own voice. He would prefer to sit quietly and watch everyone else perform. Beer won't be enough, Ryan will have to drink an entire pitcher of LITs to be drunk enough to sing. Then he will sing "Love You Madly" by CAKE and absolutely slay. Dylan will be facedown on their table pretending to have fainted when he gets back.

Bonus: Duets!

Laura and Max have perfected their version of “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” by Elton John and Kiki Dee. You should really see it. There’s choreo and everything.

Jacob and Kaitlyn will sing "I Believe in A Thing Called Love" by The Darkness. Nobody knows why. Neither of them has the upper range to pull it off and they know it. It's awful. They're just screeching. Ryan has to go outside until they're finished. His nerves can't take it. They have fun though.

Dylan would really like Ryan to duet with him on Peter Bjorn and John's "Young Folks," he'll even do the girl parts and the whistling! But Ryan's one and done at karaoke, and even that is asking a lot. Instead, Dylan and Nick duet The Proclaimers' "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" in absurd and potentially offensive Scottish accents.

Emma and Abi end up duetting half the time when they're supposed to be doing their own songs anyway, especially when it's Abi's turn! Somehow Emma just ends up there too. But they do "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" by Cyndi Lauper together with some frequency and they're great at it.

Sirius Black x Reader

Inspired by song "Angeleyes" by Abba

While recovering from a breakup, you look back at your time with Sirius Black, all while realizing an undeniable truth.

Warning: Mentions of Adult Activities, angst

The Greeks believed that the stars, galaxies, the constellations were created by the gods.

For reference, the placing of Callisto.

The beautiful, loyal, and favored hunter of Artimes. But it seems that loyalty only got you so far with the gods. She was soon turned into a bear by her goddess due to the birth of a child caused by an assult by Zeus. Years later, the same child would come upon her bear form and attempt to kill it. Zeus would see these events unfold and take "mercy" upon the two. He would place them in the sky so they would never be separated again.

Another, Andromeda. She was the fair wife to Perseus, the slayer of Medusa. Although their meet cute probably wasn't as romantic as she was hoping it would be. He found her chained to a rock by her own people as a sacrifice to Poseidon's monster. He would slay it, and they would soom have a whopping six children. Athena would later place her in the sky as a way for people to remember her for all of eternity.

The brightest in the sky though, at least in your eyes was Orion's dog, the Star of Sirius.

And a dog he was.

You'd spend the better half of 2 weeks moping in your bed. Although you would never say that aloud because then that would mean he won. It would mean that he had been able to wiggle his way into your heart like a parasite. It would mean that without his touch on your hand, your shoulder, your lips, your legs, you were lost. That you were had loved him.

So you blamed your absence on painful, the worst you-ever-experienced, period cramps. Although that could only work for so long, even if none of your peers didn't really believe it in the first place. So, it didn't take long for your scar covered friend to come barging in.

"You know, it's considered rude in most of the world to come in without a heads up," you grumbled, not having to look up to see who it was, the scent of chocolate reaching your nose, "What if I was naked?"

"Then what a site it would have been," Remus replied sarcastically, "It's time to get out of this room, love."

"See, I would love to Rem, but my cramps are just killing me," you grasp your stomach in mock pain.

"Now, correct me if I'm wrong here, but I don't think menstrual periods, or at least yours, last twelve days."

You gasp, "then it must be menopause," you fall back onto your bed sinking into the warm sheets. "Oh, I should have seen the signs, the gray hair, the wrinkles... oh Rem! Do you think this spot is cancerous?" You both fall into laughter, and you realize this is the first time you smiled since the incident. Remus plops onto the space beside you with a smile still spread on his features, your shoulders touching.

There was a comfortable silence, hearing the laughter of students, stories down from your window. The window he once climed through after almost killing himself scaling the outside wall of the castle. You cleaned the material out of his hair and kissed his wounds better that night, your heart glowing that although a stupid action was directed so he could get to you. You shoke the memory from your brain, opting to turn the boy beside you.

"How do you even get in here?"

"I'll give you three guesses"

"Why didn't they just talk to me themselves?" you ask, thinking of your roommates/best friends

"Well, I don't know if you realize this, but you are quite argumentative... and a little bit scary. I'm surprised you weren't sorted into Slytherin."

"So you were thrown into the lion cage," he lets out a breathy chuckle.

"Well, I've been told I can be quite stubborn. I am the one who pulls the boys out of their beds." The smile slipped off your face, and you could feel the gaping pit in your stomach return. Remus immediately realized his mistake and felt his heart break a little at your dimming eyes.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean t-,"

"No, you're okay, it's fine. I'm fine." You gave him a tight lip smile even though you both know he could look right through it.

There is another pregnant pause. You were happy that Remus came to check up on you. Though friends before, you cheating off his work and him being graced by your impeccable charm, he was one of Sirius's closest mates. And you wouldn't have been surprised if he stopped talking to you. You couldn't say that wouldn't have stun, though.

"I just really don't want to see him. I don't know what I'll do if I do."

"It'll be okay," he said, bringing you closer to his chest, "it'll be okay."

You let yourself relax in his grasp. Though you knew it was wrong, you couldn't help but picture yourself in someone else's arms.

"I'll let you have some of my chocolate if you come in to walk with me."

"Deal."

And that's how you ended up here. Walking among the land of the living again, trying to ignore the whispers and stares, all while looking out for a pierced boy. You thought you saw his back at one point, but it was just his younger brother Regulas, who when he turned around and saw you, give you a polite nod.

Talking with Remus was nothing but a pleasure, catching you up on the gossip you had missed and adding his own commentary. It seemed nothing would be able to dampen your mood until you felt the thundercloads roll over again.

You had been walking down the shore of the lake when you saw the tree. The tree where you and him had shared countless laughs, deep conversations, (most of which talked of your future together) kisses, and intimate touches. Where you shared stories of your day, read to one another, and even a few nights of love making.

But your favorite pastime with Sirius, besides the sex, was the star gazing. You would lay out on the ground, his warm leather jacket the only protection from the prickly grass, and Sirius would rest his head on your chest. Then begin your game. Sirius would point to a light in the sky and say its name, although most you already knew, then you would tell the stories and mythology behind that star. As you looked up at the galaxy, you could imagine that you were somewhere else in time, somewhere without the threat of an impending war, maybe a peaceful farm with geese roaming around.

There were more than a few times that you and the boy would have to sneak back into the castle, being woken from your slumber by the streaks of dawn flooding the sky.

But that sacrade tree was not without company. There leaning on the stump was Sirius. But what really cemented the dagger into your heart was the girl curled into his chest reading aloud the lines of a book.

Remus followed your line of sight and quickly turned you away, starting to chatter on about dinner.

But it was too late, you already felt a shiver go down your spine despite the heat. The look he was giving her was one that you were plenty familiar with. A look of awe, admiration, maybe even love. A look that used to be able to stop you in your tracks and make your heart mush still had the same effect, only befriended with a sour emotion.

You recognized the girl, believing she was in the year younger than yours. She was also the one he said not to worry about.

As you began walking away from the scene, you couldn't help but compare it to a car accident. Wanting to look but knowing as soon as you see the damage you wouldn't be able to unsee it. But another thought lingered in your mind. The urge to walk right up to the couple, to the girl, and warn her. Warn her that she was just a pawn in a game he likes to play; fun to play with but easily expandable.

But you could tell it was too late for her. Having already looked into his eyes, being put in a hypnotic state of adoration. A parallel to your own experience.

The first time you were really captivated with Sirius was when you really took a look into his eyes. Having known of each other, you never began talking until you were partnered in Charms class. It's said that eyes are a window to the soul, and as disgusting as it sounds, you could see your whole future in them. They were hypnotic and put you in a trance like state of borderline obsession.

With Sirius Black, every day felt like paradise. He was everything one would ever need in a boyfriend. He was doting and wasn't afraid to show it. Blowing kisses at Quddich games, buying expensive gifts, and even creative once in a lifetime dates.

Every day was an adventure. For your half-year anniversary, Sirius had managed to bag front row tickets to see Bowie. You and him danced under the stars that night, the euphonious voice of the Starman himself filling your ears like honey. That night was filled with tipsy lovemaking and a warm shower to wash the colorful makeup off your faces.

Everything was perfect...

Until it wasn't.

You had heard the rumors of his past, you would have to be living under a rock to not have. Of breaking hearts left and right. It didn't matter who you were, how you acted, Sirius Black would break your heart.

But when you hit your two month mark of dating, you thought you were different. How unfortunately and totally wrong you were.

He was getting distant by the nine month mark. Although you knew what was to come, you tried to hold it off as best you could. He began acting weirder. Trying to distance himself from you in public, keeping touches to minimim. He would partner with his friends on projects, when before his eyes would quickly find yours when a group project was mentioned. Then, when you were in private, he was back to his old loving self, the Sirius you feel in love with.

He broke up with you in public. In the Great Hall. In the middle of dinner. In. front. of. everyone. The room became silent, something that never happened, as they watched the Heartbreak Prince collect another broken heart. You tried to maintain your dignity and not let your tears fall as you moved to the opposite side of the table from him, your friends following. It wasn't until you got to the dorm that night that you broke down in Mary's arms, the mutters of Lily and Marlene's threats to kill him accompanying your broken sobs.

You were right about his angeleyes. Though his love and innocence was just a wear of disguse, underneath it all, he still was an angel, but rather to add, a fallen angel. A man who plays the game and continues to collect hearts as his victims pay the price.

But sometimes at night, in the dark of the dormitory, or you're feeling extra lonely, you like to imagine he's lying next to you, stunning eyes still trained on you. You believe that will forever be the price you pay for falling in love with the boy.

Or in the halls, as you walk by the Gryfindor as if he's a stranger, the pain that you had managed to wear away had all come back like a flood of cold water. It still hurt to even think about your time together, a time you never thought you could life without him. A part of you couldn't, and that part died the day he broke your heart, a part you will never get back. But as time goes on, you know you'll get stronger and one day break free of his spell.

As Sirius struts the hallway with a new student every week, you stare down his new prey, hoping they get your warning.

Yeah, I'm trying to remember that 😊 This is just a step in between where l was and where l want to be. It's necessary for myself, and l am a firm believer of fate and getting what you're meant to have.

We actually haven't had proper snow like this in years (hello climate change) but it was 20cm at one point 😳 (around 8-9 inches if you use the caveman metric system). Fun to look at but not to drive in, especially when it freezes over too. Have you never had snow ever or just not lately?

Hell yes, it's all about trying, and pushing, and not giving up. The only bad thing you can do is stand still and not try. You move backwards? You learn, take a breath and try again. Eyeless in Gaza

I was waiting for the elevator in one of our local hospitals when my phone started to vibrate last Tuesday afternoon with the news—reported as simple fact by the Bing-Microsoft news service that funnels breaking events into my personal news feed—that Israel had intentionally blown up a hospital in Gaza and killed 500 hospital staff and patients, including children. Then the elevator came and I got into it. By the time I got out on the ninth floor, the original story had been “confirmed” by the New York Times. So how could it not be true?

Two hours later, the original message was gone—magically withdrawn into thin air—and unretrievable. The original Times banner “Israeli Strike Kills Hundreds in Hospital, Palestinians Say” was also gone, replaced with the slightly (but only slightly) less inflammatory “At Least 500 Dead in Blast at Gaza Hospital, Palestinians Say.” But the damage was done. Not everybody who has an iPhone that features ongoing news alerts is as involved in news from Israel as I am. (Could anyone be? Maybe. But no one could be more emotionally and personally involved in the events of these last weeks.) And a fair number of them, I’m guessing, just quickly scanned the first headline, then filed it internally as yet one more terrible thing Israel has done to the innocents of Gaza. And so a scurrilous story—one that for me (and for anyone who knows as many IDF veterans as I do, and who has the respect for the IDF that it deserves) could not possibly be true—gains traction. By evening, the murder of these poor innocents was lighting up X, formerly Twitter, as though it were an established fact, as though it were a story featuring confirmed reality that only a willfully blind Zionist would even try to deny.

But, in fact, the story was not true. Or rather it was not true as reported. Yes, a terrible explosion killed hundreds at the al-Ahli hospital (also called the Baptist Hospital) in southern Gaza. And it is also true that all the victims appear to have been innocent civilians. But the IDF insists that it did not target that hospital and that, as far as they can tell, the damage was done by a missile intended by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad to murder Israeli civilians that misfired and landed in Gaza not far from where it was launched. And they also noted that the IDF is bound by rules of combat that specifically forbid its servicepeople from slaying civilians indiscriminately. And then, shortly after that, the P.M., Bibi Netanyahu himself, issued his own statement on Twitter saying plainly and unambiguously that this was not the work of the IDF.

Later, the President of the United States said clearly that American intelligence supported Israel’s claim of non-involvement. Plus, the hospital, it turned out, was not “blown up” at all, but is still standing. Aerial photographs showed rocket shrapnel on the roofs of adjacent buildings. And then, later that night, Israel released an apparently undoctored recording of Hamas operatives more or less confirming the Israeli version of events. (The recording is in Arabic, but click here to hear it with English subtitles.) Even the Gazans themselves eventually pulled back from their initial inflammatory reports, no longer mentioning 500 dead but merely referring to unidentified “hundreds.”  But by then the damage was more than done. The Arab street was on fire. There were huge demonstrations in many Muslim capitals, including Istanbul, Amman, Baghdad, and Beirut. President el-Sisi of Egypt, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and King Abdullah II of Jordan cancelled their plans to meet with President Biden, apparently thinking that insulting him for not embracing the initial (and almost fully incorrect) version of the story was a rational plan forward. On home turf, our own Rashida Tlaib (D-Michigan) asserted unambiguously (but apparently fully falsely) that the Israelis had “bombed the Baptist Hospital and killed 500 Palestinians.” And Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota) shamelessly referenced the incident as an Israeli war crime without a shred of evidence to support her vitriol.

To wave this whole incident away as yet another success, albeit a temporary one, of the Palestinian misinformation campaign against Israel would be very wrong, however. The tragedy here is fully real. These poor people fled south in the first place to avoid being caught in the crossfire if Israel ultimately decides to enter Gaza to find and free the 199 hostages being held by Hamas. I suppose they must have imagined they were safe, or safer, in the southern part of Gaza and safer still in a hospital, a place of refuge and healing. If it turns out that this was “just” an accident, that the jihadists trying to murder innocent Israelis accidentally ended up murdering innocent Palestinians, then that will be terrible enough and grimly ironic. But if it turns out that this was intentional, that Hamas did this to prompt—almost to force—el-Sisi, Abdullah, and Mahmoud Abbas publicly to disrespect President Biden by refusing to meet with him in the course of his trip to the Middle East, then the raw cynicism of the move will be almost too much to bear.

I want to think that this was an accident. What normal person wouldn’t? But what if this was intentional, if this actually was undertaken fully intentionally as a piece of grotesque political theater intended to upend President Biden’s visit to the region? To refer to the concept of blowing up a hospital to further political aims as bestial behavior would be an insult to the animal kingdom. But some part of me wonders if that isn’t precisely what’s happened. And, indeed, President Biden’s trip to underscore our nation’s support for Israel and to meet with the leaders of Egypt, Jordan, and the PA—that may simply have been too clear a harbinger of a future featuring an alliance of leaders implacably opposed to the kind of barbarism for which Hamas stands for the Hamas leadership not to do whatever it was going to take to prevent from happening. And the fact that the Palestinian president was going to be included—for which invitation the price was surely going to be his willingness to join in a blanket condemnation of Hamas’s brutal incursion into Israel and the unimaginable destruction directed almost solely against innocent civilians that incursion brought in its wake—that just may have been too much for Hamas to swallow. I have no evidence of any of the above. But I am too much a student of history to wave the darkness in my heart away as merely depressive or necessarily delusional. Terrible things happen in the world. And they often happen fully intentionally.

And that brings me to my real point. The challenge facing me personally in the wake of his incident is to find it in my heart to set everything I know about the Middle East—about Hamas and about the IDF and about Israel itself—to set it all aside and to mourn the dead of al-Ahli. I am by nature a bit cynical, but I specifically do not want to bring politics or cynicism to my appraisal of this tragedy, of this disaster. The children who died in the hospital was no more deserving of their fate than the Jewish babies and children murdered in cold blood by Hamas two weekends ago. So to wave them away as “mere” collateral damage in a larger story to which they were tiny footnotes—that would require a level of callousness and insensitivity of which I want—even need—to think of myself as being incapable of sustaining.

Since Simchat Torah, thousands have died on both sides of the Israel-Gaza border. To look past the death of innocents should be an impossibility for all who fear God and revere the sanctity of human life. Many more will die as Israel does what it can to eradicate Hamas and, in so doing, to avenge the death of its citizens. Still others will die as Hamas descends to ever darker degrees of demonic depravity in its anti-Israeli rage and does whatever it thinks necessary to hurt Israel and put space between it and its allies. In the end, Hamas will surely be annihilated. Of that, I harbor no doubts at all. But to take pleasure in that thought without mourning the innocents of al-Ahli should be impossible for even the most ardent supporter of Israel. As well it is with respect to me personally: I ardently look forward to the day when terror is defeated once and for all, but I mourn for those innocents who died when that rocket landed on the hospital in which they were seeking healing and refuge, and I feel their loss as a stone in my heart. To feel otherwise would be to deny their humanity—and that is something no decent person should even be able to do, let alone wish to do.

„I don’t know why you‘re in such a hurry, seriously. It’s an open mic night. I’m still surprised you even agreed to come. You’ll hate it.”

Steve huffs, kind of amused at his boyfriend’s antics.

His boyfriend. Steve still couldn’t believe it. It’s all very new but he’s already so gone on Eddie, it’s kind of embarrassing. Or it would be if Steve would tell him. Which he won’t. No, he’s playing it cool. Going slow. Let it progress naturally, Harrington he tells himself. He’s got this.

The nervous energy Eddie exudes is nothing unusual per se. He’s always fidgeting, always playing with his rings, his hair, or lately, Steve’s hands. But Steve doesn’t get why he’s nervous going to an open mic night where people will most likely sing Madonna or ABBA or the Bangles. And not very good, in Steve’s experience. There will be a lot of secondhand embarrassment. Which is honestly why Steve and Robin wanted to go. To make fun of people. So why was Eddie nervous?

He gets his answer an hour later.

Eddie had excused himself to the bathroom five minutes ago and Robin’s been telling him something about a girl she met at the grocery store earlier that day. She explains how their hands touched and how she felt sparks and oh my god Steve she smiled at me. He’s about to tell her that the girl was obviously flirting with Robin and that she should have asked her out when Robin’s eyes get big, and her mouth drops open.

“Robin? What’s the matter?” But before she can answer he hears a familiar voice, amplified by a microphone.

“I would like to dedicate this song to a very special someone in my life. Steve Harrington.”

What the…

“There he is, right there, that’s him.” Eddie’s smiling at Steve, soft and private. And although Steve feels heat rise in his cheeks, he’s not sure that it’s from embarrassment. “You can’t miss him. Prettiest boy in town. Hell, in this country.” Nope, definitely not embarrassment.

Robin mistakes the increasing redness of his face, though. “You’ll let me know when I should pull the fire alarm?”  Before Steve can reply Eddie starts to plug the strings of his acoustic guitar. It has ‘this machine slays dragons’ written across the smooth wooden surface. Eddie was such a nerd. His nerd.

The melody is soft, so unlike anything Eddie usually plays, that Steve needs a second to place it. When he does, his heart skips a beat.

Fuck. He was being serenaded by Eddie Munson. Steve can’t help the way he just melts. He knows how he feels about Eddie, has known for a while. But never in his wildest dreams did he expect this. He tries to swallow but his mouth’s too dry. He can’t say the same thing for his eyes.

He’s not singing the song like Tina is. It’s a slow rendition. Heartfelt and soft. The way Eddie sometimes is with him, when they’re alone in Steve’s bed. It reminds him of the way Eddie’s eyes become when he looks down at Steve in his arms, bedhead and morning breath and all. Liquid, like warm honey.

When he hits the chorus and sings

Ooh, you're simply the best

Better than anyone

Anyone I've ever met

He looks straight into Steve’s eyes and even though they hadn’t said it yet he hears the ‘I love you’ clear as day. He mouths back at Eddie ‘I love you, too’ and smiles at him. The crocked one he knows Eddie loves best.

When Eddie finishes the song, everyone applauds enthusiastically. Even if Steve wasn’t biased, he would say Eddie had been the best performer all night. As it is, he whoops and hollers like they’re at Madison Square Garden and not some bar that has seen better days. Eddie bows dramatically before hopping off the stage, striding across the room to where Steve and Robin are standing.

“What’d you say, big boy?” he asks, tone cheeky but Steve can see in his eyes that he’s nervous. He just put his heart on the line here and even though Steve had mouthed ‘I love you’ at Eddie just minutes ago, he knows what he has to do now.

He steps forward, right into Eddie’s space. He cups his face in both hands and pulls him down until their lips are almost touching. Steve makes sure to look deep into Eddie’s eyes, letting his own tell Eddie everything he’s been swallowing down for weeks before he whispers against Eddie’s lips.

“You’re simply the best.”
