I hate to nitpick the Atsushi hallucinating scene in the new episode cause it was SO well done otherwise, but I'm still really sad that they cut out Francis being there. Like... it's not entirely necessary, I guess, but it just adds so much to his character and to the scene itself?

The Francis in Atsushi's mind is this looming, intimidating presence, because Atsushi did of course fight against him, he was his enemy at one point, but I think it undeniably says a lot that he's even included here at all.

I'm pretty sure I saw this discussed back when this chapter first came out, but while everything Atsushi's hallucinations say to him are framed as negative, putting him down, they can also be read as letting him know that the burden of responsibility for making such a huge decision isn't on him (hence why he decides to let Fukuzawa decide instead, because he can't make THE choice, but he can still choose to act to let someone else decide, and not simply do nothing), and Francis is no exception in this regard. Since he's naturally haughty and arrogant in his personality, this fake version of him doesn't at all feel out of character, coldly saying that "nobody expects anything of you", but again, I think this line especially can also be read as "you are not expected to do anything". In that way, it feels more reassuring, and maybe even dare I say kind -- the fact that Atsushi even considers him important enough of a figure in his life to think of what he would say to him in this moment means that he counts Francis among his allies now. Yes, they didn't get along at first when Francis lied and told him that he only wanted to revive Margaret just so she could kill Hawthorne (because god forbid he actually admit out loud that he cares about people, smh), and obviously because of the whole almost burning Yokohama down and trying to kill him and Akutagawa thing lol, but I'm pretty sure Atsushi changed his mind about him after he saw the state Margaret was in, and recognized how much Francis cares about her and wanted her to be alright. He probably still remembers him talking about his desire to bring back his daughter and save her and his wife, too. The guy still probably isn't someone Atsushi would want to hang out with and be buddy-buddy with during his free time lmao, but the airheaded vain old sport still has a good heart, deep down, and I think Atsushi has seen this by now, because he's a kind person, and so I think it speaks volumes that he unconsciously looks to him for advice here. Francis is just a really good and underrated character, and this is such a small but meaningful moment that shows his development so well, the only moment with him we've gotten or any of the Guild really in such a long time, so it makes me sad to see this cut 💔

I also just feel like not including him kind of weakens the impact of Akutagawa's appearance here?? Like, there's a progression of the order of people Atsushi hears/sees in this scenes: first, people from the ADA sans Dazai, who are all portrayed as on the same level, because he cares about them all equally, aside from I guess Kyouka (again, sans Dazai, the most important person to him). Then, there is Francis, and not to say that Francis is more important to Atsushi than the ADA, obviously not, but he's one of the last to appear because he used to be his enemy, and so he commands much more of a presence, has more of an impact -- but at the same time, like I said, it's complicated: he's not really his enemy anymore, but something between a rival and a friend, and so for that reason his words carry more weight. He is someone Atsushi, logically, shouldn't trust, after what he did to him in the past, and yet he does, because things have changed since the Guild arc, and he knows he can count on him to be there for him and the ADA now.

And then, after him, there is Akutagawa. Who is basically exactly the same as everything I just described for Francis, but times one hundred. Of course Akutagawa would be last. Of course, if there's someone Atsushi would simultaneously and paradoxically be both intimidated by and yet comforted to hear their advice because of their tumultuous history together, far more than Francis, it would be Akutagawa. The progression of ADA members > Francis > Akutagawa in that order gives Akutagawa's appearance much more weight imo than just going straight to him from the ADA members, especially with the specific framing of him standing in line behind Francis to judge/advise Atsushi.... it's just much more powerful, and I wish they'd kept it like this, for both Francis and Aku's characters.

Dazai’s love language is definitely physical touch. He’s frequently whiny and pouty whenever you aren’t pampering him, even if it’s just for a moment. He doesn’t let you do you paperwork, so you’ll most likely have him on your lap as you work or vice versa. He doesn’t want to let you go.

The only time the detective would give you some space is if you really insisted it, you need to use the restroom, or if you are on a mission without him. Of course, he still throws a small dramatic, playful tantrum, but he reluctantly lets you go in the end. However, if you aren’t doing anything important in the restroom, like washing your hands in the restroom or anything that you don’t really need much privacy for, Dazai would be embracing you from behind with his chin on your shoulder, watching you do whatever you’re doing.

Of course, it was your brown-haired lover, Dazai, pestering you even as you cook. He was extremely clingy. It’s only been a few minutes too. —“Be-ll-a-do-nn-a~” He whispers sweetly in your ear, distracting you as you cook. His favorite thing to do. You sigh, muttering his name softly with slight embarrassment. You were a bit flustered, you couldn’t lie. It showed on your pink, blushing face too. There was no excuse for it. You and your suicidal boyfriend were off for the day. What did you do that entire day? Well, Dazai kind of just followed you everywhere. You went to run some errands and purchase some groceries, etc. Dazai came along, skipping beside you happily as you grab something up the shelf. He loved humiliating you in public, so he lifted you up when you struggle’s to grab hold of the food at the top of the shelf. Silly Dazai being his goofy self.

Atsushi’s love language would probably be acts of service. He was just a pure and innocent angel, he loved doing things for you. You were always appreciative of him and usually rewarded him with a kiss, a hug, etc. He would do anything either way though, he doesn’t need anything in return, but damn, those kisses or hugs you gave him in return was surely a bonus, and he wasn’t complaining at all.

The poor weretiger just couldn’t explain how he felt. The warmth he feels inside and the fluttering in his stomach makes him go slightly red. Whenever he does something for you, he thinks about you during the process. He normally has thoughts like, —“I wonder what y/n is doing right now~..” or, —“I want y/n to tell me about her day…”

Atsushi literally melted, shyly smiling as he avoids eye contact and turns a soft, cherrry red.

Ranpo’s love language is words of affirmation, hands down. Yes, he loves all the praises everyone else gives him for being a literal genius, but when you praise him, it’s completely different. It would make his ego skyrocket, and get him immediately excited and cocky. He would usually smirk at you playfully. He craves all the compliments you give him, he literally feels like he needs it to live.

—“C’mon, praise me some more~” Your genius lover insists all the time. He would accept “thank you” or any words of gratitude or appreciation. Whenever he does something for you, even if it’s as small as fetching you some water or paperwork, he’d ask for a compliment in return with an arrogant smirk plastered onto his face, his eyes screaming mischievous.

Kunikida’s love language most likely would be quality time. In his green notepad, he has his usual schedule, however, ever since you got together with him, he had “free time with y/n” written in his notebook. He even highlights it because it’s the part in his day that excites him the most. Of course, your idealist darling would want to see and spend time with you, even if he is a workaholic.

Even on a busy day, even if Kunikida is occupied for the current few moments, he will always try to clear out his schedule just to spend some time with you if you really desired to be with him. He loves your company, you loved his. If he can’t find a time to spend even just a few moments with you, he’d most likely apologize and try to make it up to you somehow, if it’s treating you to dinner or a shopping spree of some sort. He actually loves when you ask things of him since he gets to be in your presence during these moments.

Yes, he paid for you as well, he didn’t mind it and actually wanted to buy you things. That enthusiastic expression and bright smile on your face was enough to make butterflies in his stomach flutter, as if he were some teenager falling in love. He felt humiliated, but he was just overalls sweet and romantic. I a good way, of course.

Yosano’s love language possibly could be gift giving. She knows you oh to well, so she knows exactly what to gift you. It’s frequently out of the blue too, sometimes elegantly and cleanly wrapped with a glittery ribbon or top like a Christmas present, sometimes in a bag with wrapping paper in it, sometimes just not wrapped at all. Really, the doctor’s presents for you are just unpredictable, but they were so cute and always, and I mean always, an object you wanted or talked about. Yosano couldn’t lie either, she loved how you were so grateful for all her gifts.

If it’s any special occasion, such as you and Yosano’s anniversary, your birthday, Valentine’s Day, then you should expect plenty of gifts. The thing is you fail to catch her wrapping anything for you despite the amounts of presents she wraps for you, so she was stealthy and flexible with it as well, always finding a time to wrap when you’re away.

BSD ADA character as Alpha/Beta/Omega dynamics

Just my thoughts on what the ada characters would be if they were in an a/b/o au, kenji and kyouka won't be here because i do not write about minors.

Dazai is an alpha but he acts like an omega.

i know most people would think that he's an omega but listen, dazai acts childish most of the times to appear less threatening and more naive, he wants people to put their guards down when they're around him, and it just makes sense that he's an alpha who acts like an omega.

do you see my vision?

Ranpo is an omega, my first thought was that he would be a beta but thinking about it he seems like the opposite of dazai.

he's an omega who acts like an alpha or more like an omega who wants to be an alpha, we know that ranpo lies to himself and pretends to have an ability, so i feel like he would be an omega who pretends to be an alpha.

Fukuzawa is an alpha, he's strong, responsible leader, a good father and most importantly a green flag, we love him.

It’d be so easy for Fyodor to just reveal he was secretly recording Fukuzawa throughout their whole interaction. And then manipulate that message to give the One Order commands in Fukuzawa’s voice.

Thet Atsushi as Fukuzawa’s subordinate would have no choice but to follow.

Or you know Fyodor just re-configures the One Order to his voice. And if all his talk of “my companion” is anything to go by he clearly sees Atsushi as his new subordinate.

The One Order was gifted to him by the Order of the Clock Tower, an organisation he is allied with. I wouldn’t even be surprised if the reason Fukuchi knew how to take control of it was because of Fyodor.

And canonically Fyodor is pretty good with technology. I mean he took over control of the Moby Dick at the end of the Guild arc and caused it to fall

And even without all of that Fyodor still has the page.

Remember when I made a bunch of bsd characters into Tomodachi Life miis?

Well one month later they've been doing a lot of things: finding best friends, trying to set each other up on dates, getting into fights, asking each other out... and even getting married!

I try to meddle the least amount possible in their social lives, only answering yes or no when they ask for my blessing in asking someone out or trying to set their friends up. I mostly say yes, with very few exceptions. Note that I am only sharing the funniest events.

That being said, here are some highlights of the dumb things they've been doing, featuring some of your favourite guys:

since this game is hetero relationships only, I purposefully made Dazai into a girl so he would have most of the men roster to choose from (something something Dazai's collection of boyfriends). Well, he lost no time setting his sights on his neighbour Kunikida (everyone's laid out by organization affiliation). Kunikida accepted.

Ango had a hard time maintaining friendships at first, getting into fights with them a few days, if not literal hours, after befriending them, and the fight failing to be resolved. One time, after a failed apology, I tried to cheer him up with a mobile, and the game randomly selected these miis to put in the mobile:

Atsushi befriended Akutagawa, and a few days later, decided to confess his feeling to him. Akutagawa said yes.

While at the café with some of his friends, Chuuya confessed to some concerns:

At the hilarious timing of right after chapter 113, with the infamous ADA-ensemble-but-missing-Dazai panel, Dazai and Fukuzawa had a fight, and Fukuzawa did not accept Dazai's apology. This seemed to be the end of their friendship, but Fukuzawa decided he wanted to save their relationship, and went to apologize too:

Then, Dazai and Kunikida had a fight. They managed to make up and keep their relationship going. I didn't take screenshots, but Chuuya mentionned it during Fitzgerald's pity party:

Flash round! Many characters tried to set their friends up on a date, or to confess their feelings, but ended up in failure. Ranpo tried to set up Higuchi and Tsujimura. Ango tried to ask Oda out, but Oda didn't even show up. Gin went for Kunikida even if he was already taken. Tachihara tried to set up Fukuzawa and Hirotsu. Mori tried to set up his two mafia spies. And...

I was peer-pressured (❤) into letting Fukuzawa confess "because Dazai could make 'your mom' jokes to Ranpo then". Mid-confession, someone yells "Not so fast!" from out of frame. The camera turns, and reveal... Ranpo, who also has feelings for Dazai! Who is still, may I remind you, in a relationship with Kunikida!

Love was in the air after that, and Atsushi decided he was ready to ask Akutagawa the big question! He asked him during fireworks.

They had a wonderful wedding with their friends (the game picks their guests based on friendship levels with the bride and groom)

And here they are now, the first married couple of the island!

There's still a bit more that has been going on, but I hit the picture limit and this is already long enough! I also have a bunch of silly isolated events where a mii did or said something funny.

Caregiver Dazai hcs

Warnings: None! (Surprising considering its Dazai right?)

Notes: I ACCIDENTLY POSTED THIS WHEN I HADN'T FINISHED IT YET :( anyway, I don't understand bsd characterization yet.. So if Dazai seems reallyy ooc I'm sorry :[ This is centered around reader or you~ But if you want him for actual characters feel free to send an ask and request :D

- Dazai is a very excited caregiver, he likes taking care of you and he isn't afraid to show it! He's very affectionate- Hand holding, kissing your forehead, holding you close. Lots of hugs!! And I mean lots.

- But Dazai is also secretly, very overprotective. He keeps you safe in ways you wouldn't notice unless you looked closely, but you are much too small for that !! So let Dazai cuddle you instead of walking near that alleyway- "Oh- Nope! No going over there~ It's cuddle time!!"

- Speaking of him being secretly overprotective, he's so silly that you won't notice him glaring at anybody who comes a bit too close for his liking!! If he even hears of port mafia members walking near the place you two are headed (because he obviously can sense Chuuya coming a mile away) he will switch walking routes instead of doing his thing where he purposefully walks down that road.

- He will probably baby you even when you're big, which means it's impossible to ignore your regression with him.. And you better not try. You're too busy? Not anymore!! You wanna focus on a project? Uh.. Nope!~ You can't regress? That's alright! Just let him wrap you in a blanket, give you a paci and watch your favorite cartoons together.

- Dazai uses you as an excuse alot to get out of doing paperwork- Kunikida is yelling at him and Dazai is just pouting, "My baby needs me! I can't stay here when my precious baby needs help-" and the thing you need help with is changing your cartoons, somehow it takes three hours before Dazai comes back to do paperwork.. But oh! Atsushi finished it already sooo-

- Dazai coos at you. Constantly. 24/7. You will literally breathe and Dazai is dying from how adorable you are, People know to avoid the room where you can hear the high pitched- "Awh you are such a cutie!!!- oh you need help? Ofcourse- AWHHH~~~"

- In the agency, no one cares you regress. However.. Kunikida IS TIRED OF DAZAI AVOIDING HIS PAPERWORK. So after a bit, they build you a little area near Dazai's desk where you can play.. Now he can't LEAVE. BECAUSE YOU ARE HERE- *Ahem.* anyway.

- But!. If you don't want others to know you age regress, or more specifically the agency- Then Dazai will keep it a secret! He's good at excuses, and very good at knowing when you are regressed or slightly drifting near your headspace. So if you guys are in a important meeting but you're starting to regress, Dazai literally does not care. Man will just pick you up and go "Okay cool, we are gonna leave now :D" just up and leaves with you in his arms.

- Dazai doesn't seem like much of a cook, and he isn't, but he can make the basics. You know those mom's who cut their children's lunch into shapes? Dazai does that. If you are older when regressed, he will make your food into funny shapes and HE LOVES IT. You caused him to start following millions of mom's just so he can keep getting new shapes and ideas.

- Dazai is SO into doing funny voices when you two play together, just hand him a stuffie you want him to play and he's already going into a voice and acting out things.. No matter how dramatic. And no, he isn't embarrassed about getting caught. He'll just drag whoever caught you two into it, so congrats! You'll have another playing buddy!

- If you prefer coloring, he's happy to color right with you! He started using the agency's printer to print out coloring sheets for you, (It also gets on Kunikida's nerves, I mean he loves you too! Thinks you are adorable, but seriously- please Dazai the printer is for agency matters-) and will happily buy you whatever materials you need.. Including finger paint. He's so supportive when you're messy. "All the great artists have caused messes!!" He reassures you.

- But if you are a smaller regressor, or maybe a more calm/sleepy one, he's good at being just quiet enough but still excited enough. If you are tired, he'll carry you. It's comforting to have you rest your head against his chest while he walks around, it's nice to know you are close.

- It's even cuter if when tired, you talk or do sleepy babbles because Dazai literally just nods quietly and goes "Mhmm... Oh really? Wow!" He's trying to stay as quiet as he can, but internally he's cooing :( look at his sweet baby, so sleepy.

- Dazai loves being called 'Dada', I mean, he loves whatever his baby will call him but dada makes him feel all warm inside because yes!!! He is your dada!! It makes him feel even more happy about being able to take care of you.

- Calls you 'His little star' or the most common 'his baby', Usually adds 'his' instead of just baby. A bit possessive, but he adores you too much for someone else to take care of you. "My little star, how about we cuddle and go to sleep together hm? Dada is so tiredd~"

Ok no let me explain you a thing.

I can't take it. I literally can't take this moment without making a sound somewhere in the back of my throat. It's the cutest thing ever and it's this frame here that makes it.

Look, I know this is Wan. I know Wan isn't really canon and this is the preschool episode so it's even less so. But there's something in here that is an absolutely canon thing Akutagawa does.

The scene starts off with Akutagawa's typical reverence and excitement that Dazai is sitting near him. Nothing particularly notable there. But then Dazai gets excited by what's going on and Akutagawa gives him this look and I just can't take it man.

Because that's a genuinely fond look. He's happy for him. He's happy Dazai is enjoying himself.

And that's not just a Wan thing. He says along those lines to Kyouka in one of my all-time favourite BSD scenes in general.

It just. I just have a lot of feelings about that. This is a guy who, we know from Heartless Cur and the beginning of Beast, has very little in the way of emotion - but when he does feel, it's rather all-encompassing, even overwhelmingly strong. Things like rage and desperation. It's raw survival instinct.

But then he has. This too.

Here's the thing. In the preschool chapter, silly as it is, Dazai is still fixated on suicide. He has the noose, just doesn't speak about it openly. So, it's probably quite rare that Dazai shows genuine enjoyment the way he did here - and that's worth that small smile.

In the main universe, Akutagawa remembers how Kyouka hated herself to the point of asking to be killed, then sees how fierce she is about defending her new life and self, and decides that he's glad for her.

It really means something to me that one of the very few relational emotions he allows himself to feel is happiness and pride on others' behalf.

It roots itself less in compassion or happiness itself and more in a sense of respect... but remember that Akutagawa hardly gives his respect easily. He gives his respect only to those he considers strong, and in nearly every battle, he finds himself disappointed. What he wants is kind of contradictory - he wants a worthy opponent, so someone who poses a strong challenge to him to prove his own worth as one who will never be weak again... and yet, when they lose against him, he's often disappointed they did not succeed or fight harder, and looks down on them.

Atsushi's motive, or what he initially thinks his motive is, is disappointing to him at first - Akutagawa believes he is trying to prove himself as worthy of living through someone else's acceptance and berates him for it. But that's... exactly what he has been doing. Later on, he continues to question Atsushi for his motives, in yet another of one of my favourite scenes.

He asks him over and over - "why?" And is not satisfied until Atsushi reveals that he's also looking to get rid of the shadow of the orphanage director that follows him like a haunting - that trauma? All that pain thrown in his face? He is fighting to overcome it. He is fighting via proof and change because Atsushi wants to live, and to not have to feel ashamed of that. And that's what it took for Akutagawa to trust him and respect him enough to transfer Rashoumon to him.

I think, on some level, Akutagawa is invested in seeing whether Atsushi will succeed in this. And I think, in spite of everything between them, he will be glad for him if he does.

I just really love this aspect to his character, because while he searches for strength in violence and power and physical skill, it means on a deeper level, he actually sees joy and resistance in the face of despair as true strength that's worth acknowledging.

I want him so badly to accept that as true strength within himself in the main timeline.

I also love it because Beast confirms that Akutagawa would do anything for his sister and I am now free to imagine Gin telling her brother all the things she was learning and how she was slowly connecting to the Black Lizard and feeling overwhelming pride for her but not really expressing that but Gin knowing that's how he felt regardless, anyways that is all

Is this even coherent anymore? Oh well.

amnesia fics have no right to be so good

i love amnesia fics in general but i love the fun silly wholesome ones where one of the ship wakes up married or whatever and the other ship is desperately tripping over their feet trying to make the first one comfortable and yeah

sskk my beloved fic where atsushi gets amnesia and akutagawa is desperately trying to make atsushi as comfy as possible like atsushi comes to their apartment and is like "oh which room is mine" and akutagawa stares wide eyed like "oh that um we share" and then atsushi gets to the room and is like "wait where's my bed" becuz he's a silly little confused guy and akutagawa is like uhhh

and atsushi is like where are my clothes most of these look rlly expensive and aku has to explain that he has 0 self control and if atsushi as much as glances at something aku buys it for him

but also akutagawa losing his memory and atsushi having to take care of him

That Thing Is Me

a rant about Atsushi's character

"That thing is me," he says. If that's the case, then that implies he's always had control over Byakko, even if he wasn't aware of it, further exemplified by the fact that Byakko never killed anyone on her rampages and only stole livestock. However, this is also... concerning.

The first scene we see Byakko in full, she immediately tries to kill Dazai. In the second, she tries to kill Ryuu and almost seems to be strategizing- hiding in Junichirou's Light Snow with almost human intelligence, striking from behind and going for the throat. She was aiming to kill.

If Atsushi is Byakko, then what does it say about him as a person that he's so willing to hurt- and even kill- others? Even Atsushi the human has displayed severe lack of concrete morals- seeming inconvenienced by Dazai's suicidal ideations, showing Lucy sympathy, yes, but only in a situation he was in 100% control in- and then immediately threatening her with a fate worse than death should she not agree to his demands, his first response to being faced with a lack of food doing a 180 from 'I'm going to die' to 'I'm going to hurt someone so I don't die.'

Plus, the fact he was so willing to run from the ADA to 'protect' them- and himself by extension, given his assumption the Mafia would be unable to find him- with zero regard for their emotions is cause for further concern. Yes, he cares about people's well-being, but he doesn't seem to understand others' emotions very well.

Possibly even more concerning, he doesn't seem to feel guilt for any of it- after all, those people hurt him first, didn't they? They deserve it, he's only trying to survive in a dog-eat-dog world. All of it was necessary.

I don't think Atsushi is a bad person, absolutely not- he saved Kyouka, he's fighting Amenogozen as we speak, he does his best to keep the people around him safe, he fought off Shibusawa. But I do think he struggles with empathy. Sympathy, he shows in spades. But understanding what others are feeling and genuinely caring is where he struggles.

I feel like a decent chunk of what we see is him either trying not to lose the people that make him feel human, or mimicking the people around him. Byakko is him completely unmasked, Atsushi at his most raw, his most primal, letting himself finally be who he is on the inside and hurt the people that hurt him.

Because in the end, that's what he wants, no?
