A Charm of Magpies #1: The Magpie Lord FREE EBOOK
A lord in danger. A magician in turmoil. A snowball in hell. Exiled to China for twenty years, Lucien Vaudrey never planned to return to England. But with the mysterious deaths of his father and brother, it seems the new Lord Crane has inherited an earldom. He’s also inherited his family’s enemies. He needs magical assistance, fast. He doesn't expect it to turn up angry. Magician Stephen Day has good reason to hate Crane’s family. Unfortunately, it’s his job to deal with supernatural threats. Besides, the earl is unlike any aristocrat he’s ever met, with the tattoos, the attitude… and the way Crane seems determined to get him into bed. That’s definitely unusual. Soon Stephen is falling hard for the worst possible man, at the worst possible time. But Crane’s dangerous appeal isn't the only thing rendering Stephen powerless. Evil pervades the house, a web of plots is closing round Crane, and if Stephen can’t find a way through it—they’re both going to die.

When a blackmailer threatens to expose their illicit relationship, there's only one thing stopping Crane from leaving the country he Stephen. Stephen has problems of his own. As he investigates a plague of giant rats sweeping London, his sudden increase in power, boosted by his blood-and-sex bond with Crane, is rousing suspicion that he’s turned warlock. With all eyes on him, the threat of exposure grows. Stephen could lose his friends, his job and his liberty over his relationship with Crane. He’s not sure if he can take that risk much longer. Crane isn’t sure if he can ask him to. The rats are closing in, and something has to give…

Society of Gentlemen #0.5: The Ruin of Gabriel Ashleigh
The youngest son and the blackest sheep in his family, Lord Gabriel Ashleigh never imagined he could sink so low. Though he’s a notoriously bad gambler, he takes on the formidable but strangely alluring Francis Webster, only to lose everything: all his money, the lovely estate he inherited from his aunt, and any hope of future happiness. So it’s a shock when Webster summons him to a private game for a chance to win back his possessions. The stake? If he fails, Ash must surrender his body. Francis has been waiting years for this moment. At Eton, Ash’s elder brother harassed him relentlessly. Now, consumed by lust and rage, Francis is only too happy to exploit Ash’s foolish indiscretions. But as Francis strips the magnificently built youth—first of his family assets, then his clothes—he begins to wonder whether he’s been plotting revenge . . . or exquisite seduction.

Harry’s new station demands conformity—and yet the one thing he desires is a taste of the wrong pair of lips. After witnessing firsthand the horrors of Waterloo, Julius Norreys sought refuge behind the luxurious facade of the upper crust. Now he concerns himself exclusively with the cut of his coat and the quality of his boots. And yet his protégé is so unblemished by cynicism that he inspires the first flare of genuine desire Julius has felt in years. He cannot protect Harry from the worst excesses of society. Among his eccentric though strictly principled group of friends, Lord Richard Vane is the confidant on whom everyone depends for advice, moral rectitude, and discreet assistance. Yet when Richard has a problem, he turns to his valet, a fixer of unparalleled genius—and the object of Richard’s deepest desires. If there is one rule a gentleman must follow, it is never to dally with servants. But when David is close enough to touch, the rules of class collide with the basest sort of animal instinct: overpowering lust. For David Cyprian, burglary and blackmail are as much in a day’s work as bootblacking—anything for the man he’s devoted to. But the one thing he wants for himself is the one thing Richard refuses to give: his heart. With the tension between them growing to be unbearable, David’s seemingly incorruptible master has left him no choice. Putting his finely honed skills of seduction and manipulation to good use, he will convince Richard to forget all about his well-meaning objections and give in to sweet, sinful temptation.

-------------------------------------- Sins of the Cities
Sins of the Cities is written in the spirit of the Victorian sensation novel (plots, shenanigans, murder, mystery, fog, secrets and scandals). It’s London 1873. As one of the worst fogs of the nineteenth century closes in on the city, long-buried secrets are crawling into the light, and dragging all sorts of trouble with them.
The trilogy centres on a group of friends who meet at the Jack and Knave, a club for ladies and gentlemen of unconventional persuasion.
Clem Talleyfer is an unassuming lodging-house keeper who just wants a quiet life; Nathaniel Roy is a lawyer turned journalist who likes nothing more than a crusade; Mark Braglewicz is a private enquiry agent and a bit of a tough nut. And all three are about to find themselves dragged into a long-simmering family secret that turns deadly.
Sins of the Cities #1: An Unseen Attraction
Lodging-house keeper Clem Talleyfer prefers a quiet life. He’s happy with his hobbies, his work—and especially with his lodger Rowley Green, who becomes a friend over long fireside evenings together. If only neat, precise, irresistible Mr. Green were interested in more than friendship... Rowley just wants to be left alone—at least until he meets Clem, with his odd, charming ways and his glorious eyes. Two quiet men, lodging in the same house, coming to an understanding . . . it could be perfect. Then the brutally murdered corpse of another lodger is dumped on their doorstep and their peaceful life is shattered. Now Clem and Rowley find themselves caught up in a mystery, threatened on all sides by violent men, with a deadly London fog closing in on them. If they’re to see their way through, the pair must learn to share their secrets—and their hearts.
Sins of the Cities #2: An Unnatural Vice
In the sordid streets of Victorian London, unwanted desire flares between two bitter enemies. Crusading journalist Nathaniel Roy is determined to expose spiritualists who exploit the grief of bereaved and vulnerable people. First on his list is the so-called Seer of London, Justin Lazarus. Nathaniel expects him to be a cheap, heartless fraud. He doesn’t expect to meet a man with a sinful smile and the eyes of a fallen angel—or that a shameless swindler will spark his desires for the first time in years. Justin feels no remorse for the lies he spins during his séances. His gullible clients simply bore him. Hostile, disbelieving, utterly irresistible Nathaniel is a fascinating challenge. And as their battle of wills and wits heats up, Justin finds he can’t stop thinking about the man who’s determined to ruin him. But Justin and Nathaniel are linked by more than their fast-growing obsession with one another. They are both caught up in an aristocratic family’s secrets, and Justin holds information that could be lethal. As killers, fanatics, and fog close in, Nathaniel is the only man Justin can trust—and, perhaps, the only man he could love.
Sins of the Cities #3: An Unsuitable Heir
On the trail of an aristocrat’s secret son, enquiry agent Mark Braglewicz finds his quarry in a music hall, performing as a trapeze artist with his twin sister. Graceful, beautiful, elusive, and strong, Pen Starling is like nobody Mark’s ever met—and everything he’s ever wanted. But the long-haired acrobat has an earldom and a fortune to claim. Pen doesn’t want to live as any sort of man, least of all a nobleman. The thought of being wealthy, titled, and always in the public eye is horrifying. He likes his life now—his days on the trapeze, his nights with Mark. And he won’t be pushed into taking a title that would destroy his soul. But there’s a killer stalking London’s foggy streets, and more lives than just Pen’s are at risk. Mark decides he must force the reluctant heir from music hall to manor house, to save Pen’s neck. Betrayed by the one man he thought he could trust, Pen never wants to see his lover again. But when the killer comes after him, Pen must find a way to forgive—or he might not live long enough for Mark to make amends.

Tour de France Femmes begins Monday!
After the long pause from the 2024 Paris Olympics (which has been pretty great, tbh) we finally begin the Tour de France Femmes on Monday, August 12!
We're looking at eight stages, with the riders rolling out from Rotterdam, The Netherlands, where they will spend most of three days on 2.5 stages around Rotterdam. We say 2.5 stages, because Tuesday features two different stages, a short sprint stage and then an evening time trial. We don't know how we feel about these types of stages, but at least it will showcase different riders' talents.
Stage 4 on Wednesday will see the riders cross into Belgium and travel parts of the routes for Amstel Gold Race and Liege-Bastogne-Liege, including the famous hills like the Cauberg and the Cote de la Roche-aux-Faucons. And then finally, on Thursday, the Tour de France actually reaches France, and we will see increasingly mountainous stages that should determine the general classification, including finales on Le Grand-Bornand and the infamous Alp d'Huez.
As for GC, the odds-on favorite has to be defending TdFF champ Demi Vollering (SD Worx-Protime), who as we have said this year, is the best climber and stage-racer in the world right now. Cycling News has a great run-down for the other challengers, however, which we recommend.
It will be interesting to see how other strong teams like Canyon-SRAM and Lidl-Trek can put SD Worx under pressure. We've seen that in the Tour de Suisse and it can be done, but frankly, Vollering is so dominant right now that she might still win even if she's isolated on half the stages. She is just that good. Keep an eye on riders like Neve Bradbury (Canyon-SRAM) or Evita Muzic (FDJ-Suez) as possible spoilers, and definitely contenders for the podium.
We honestly don't know how the fight for the points jersey will go, and we're excited to see how that plays out across the stages. Defending green jersey wearer Marianne Vos (Visma Lease-a-Bike) will want to repeat, but she'll have some serious competition from Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime), who is still the fastest pure sprinter in the world and has shown she can get over the hills remarkably well. We'd love to see Elisa Balsamo (Lidl-Trek) back to winning ways after being off the bike due to injury.
We are less optimistic about the competition for the polka-dot jersey, and think it will likely be swept up by the GC winner. But that isn't always the case, like in the Giro this year, and we'd love to see some breakaway action and a non-GC rider try to hold onto that jersey.
We also expect several teams to hunt stages and keep several of the stages entertaining. EF-Oatly-Cannondale has been on a rampage this year, scooping up stages in the Vuelta Feminina and the Giro d'Italia Women, and they have the firepower to do it again with Alison Jackson, Kim Cadzow, Clara Emond, or Kristen Faulkner. Another team to watch is AG Insurance-Soudal, which has options in Tour Down Under champ Sarah Gigante, Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio, and Giro mountains classification winner Justine Ghekiere.
And finally, we expect to be surprised! We'd love to see a new talent announce herself on the biggest stage of the season, that's part of what we love about bike racing. This year's course is less likely to be an SD Worx show like last year (5 out of 8 stages), particularly with Lotte Kopecky not on the start list, so we are looking forward to some surprise moves and performances that will keep the racing interesting all the way to the top of Alp d'Huez!

Just where oh where do I even being? My name is probably a good start. However, if you're able to read this, you're able to read my username - which is my name. Ashleigh. Ashleigh Marie Eckert. I was born and raised in the great town of Appaloosa Plains. I wasn't like most girls I grew up around, let alone any of the children I grew up around. I was the only one being raised singlehandedly by my grandparents. Sure, it had its downsides, but I wouldn't have traded it for the world. My parents were in a fatal accident which I thankfully have no recollection of, due the fact I was a mere infant. It was still tragic nonetheless, but it left me to the hands of my adoring grandparents. I did go back and forth between the pair of them but was given sole custody to my mother's parents in Appaloosa Plains. Other than that? My life was pretty normal in comparison to everyone else who lives here! You're either living the farm life or related to someone that is. There are the wealthier, more elitest families in town, but my grandparents always told me they all started off somewhere, like us! I love the farm life. I loved growing up and learning all about breeding, raising, the whole nine yards. My entire adolescence felt equally as normal compared to everyone around me in school, and I'm grateful for my grandparents every day for that. I remember when the second tragedy hit. I just turned twenty a month prior and both of my grandparents passed within a week of one another. It is inevitable given their ages at the time, but I was grief stricken. They were loved within Appaloosa, so everyone rallied together for me and helped me be able to live on my own given the fact I was now technically an adult. Sure, my other grandparents offered to take me in - but I couldn't bare moving. This was my home. All I knew. I unfortunately had to sell the spacious lands, the beautiful barns and all the horses in tow. But now I've got a quaint little home of my own on a decent sized piece of property! I want more than anything to get back into raising horses, it was something that brought me so much joy and peace! But I can't afford that right now. So, with that being said, job hunting is on the way and I'm going to do whatever it takes to harbor my dream life! I hope you guys enjoy my journey as much as I enjoy dictating it here on my blog. Who knows, maybe, if you're in the area, you'll catch me on a dating website, or two! ;) Until next time! - xo Ashleigh

disregarding the ask game you have up for a moment,
what Hidden Power types do or would your characters have?
see, i was doing some back-reading and saw the circumstances the titular Ashleigh the Raichu, and saw that she seemingly was bred from competition, which made me wonder to myself “hm, she must have Hidden Power Ice,” which in of itself made me wonder more and more,,,
which bring us back to where we are now.
(also a friend of mine showed me the reference sheet for your Sparky and her strange Adamant nature physical Alolan Raichu build, so that got my brain gears churning and turning even more)
That's actually a pretty good question!
I go on a lil tangent so I'm putting this all under a Read More lol
Since Hidden Power is calculated based on the Pokemon's IVs, it's all based on how they were bred, I assume.
For Ash and Dew, both of them have a Ditto Parent, presumably with 6 IVs. Specifically in the "feral" canon for Dew, that Ditto was meant for breeding competitive Oshawotts, so it's probably safe to assume that Dew also has perfect IVs. By this logic then, his Hidden Power type would be Dark!
For Ashleigh in "feral" canon, that Ditto was also for competitive breeding, and I'd assume that the former trainer would want to have Hidden Power Ice on her as a result, so we'll say she'd have HP Ice for the sake of ease.
As for Coro, Taima, and Joule, they could have a whole range of IVs since their parents in "feral" didn't breed with a Destiny Knot. So I honestly could throw some darts at a board and just go "Eh, that'll work."
Alternatively, I could literally look at the stats of Joule that I have in my Scarlet copy and slap that into a calculator and determine at least HER Hidden Power based on that. But that seems a lil... cheap? I dunno.
Sparky, Lullaby, Pohuka, and Pele all were NOT breed competitively. All but Lullaby were wild caught, so they can literally have anything. Once again, I have them in my Sword copy, so I could determine HP from that.
So, let's throw some darts, I guess!
According to my wheels, here's everyone's Hidden Power types!
Lullaby and Coro have Psychic
Sparky has Steel
Pohuka has Fire
Pele has Electric
Taima and Joule have Ghost
I should mention that I am no way a Competitive Pokemon Player, so all of what I know about IVs and such is strictly from research and pre-existing Shiny Hunting knowledge. So take this all with the biggest grain of salt lol

Hey, guys, so I have decided to write a short story for Halloween this year. So, here is a sneak peek. I hope you like it 😄🎃👻
THE SLEEPOVER
A Halloween Special
Synopsis
WHEN SHY NEWCOMER, LILY RYAN, is dared by the most popular girl in school to spend the night in the haunted Anderson Manor, she reluctantly agrees, hoping to finally fit in. The decaying mansion, shrouded in eerie legends of tragedy and restless spirits, soon reveals its dark secrets. As the night unfolds, Lily, along with her friends, Maya Harper and Kai Williams, must confront not only the supernatural but also their own fears and insecurities. In the heart of the haunted house, they will discover that some dares are far more dangerous than they seem, and fitting in might come at a terrifying price.
👻😴🎃💔
Epigraph
" They thought the scariest part was the house, but it was what they found within themselves that truly haunted them. "
👻😴🎃💔

ETHAN CLARKE
(JORDAN RODRIGUES)
THE PRETTY BOY
"This dare might be crazy, but it sounds like the perfect way for me to prove, despite popular belief, I'm not Shay's little bitch. Besides, I've always wanted a story to tell about the time I out-ghosted a haunted house."
SHAY TAYLOR
(SAMARA WEAVING)
THE HBIC

"Oh, come on, Kai! If you're scared of a little creak, you'll never survive the ghosts. Just think of it as the house's way of saying 'hello'."

[ad_1] South Africa women pulled off an incredible run chase in Dubai. (PC: ICC) As South Africa inched closer to a historic victory at the Dubai International Stadium, it just made one wonder how many days have gone by since Australia lost a knockout game at the T20 World Cup. 3,119 days. Yes, 3119 days ago, Australia had slipped to an eight-wicket loss versus the West Indies, in the summit clash of the 2016 World Cup. That little bit of information tells us why this was an epoch-making eight-wicket victory for South Africa. As soon as Anneke Bosch (74) hit the winning runs, Chloe Tryon punched the air in delight and hugged her batting partner. The victory also erased some bad memories from last year’s final, where South Africa had succumbed to a defeat in their own backyard. It is true that Laura Wolvaardt, the fulcrum of the South African line-up, and Bosch were the mainstays of their chase. However, the foundation stone of their win was laid by the bowlers. Marizanne Kapp, Ayabonga Khaka and Chloe Tryon combined to give away just 73 runs off 12 overs. Nonkululeko Mlaba, the cany left-arm spinner, also provided the trio with support as Australia were restricted to 134. To make it even better, South Africa’s fielders showed enough intensity in the field. The fielders inside the ring were always moving in before the ball was released, with an intention to save runs. Tamzin Brits did fluff a chance in the slog overs, but she also pouched a sharp catch off the last ball of Australia’s innings to dislodge Ellyse Perry. The batters then built on the good work by calmly chasing down the total. In the first couple of overs, Australia kept a lid on the scoring rate, with South Africa accumulating only four runs. At the right juncture, Brits crunched a couple of boundaries. She also thumped Ashleigh Gardner beyond the boundary rope. Australia tried to find another opening, with Brits being cleaned up by Annabel Sutherland. Once again South Africa were able to negate the threat and keep the required run-rate under check. Bosch, who has had an issue or two versus left-arm spin, swept and danced down the deck to collect two boundaries off Sophie Molineux. Laura Wolvaardt matched her stroke-play by thumping Darcie Brown, Australia’s fastest bowler, over mid-on for a six. It was in the 12th over when Bosch cut loose, smashing Georgia Wareham for 10 runs over two deliveries. A six off Wareham capsulised Bosch’s power-hitting as she cleared the boundary rope easily. In the very next over bowled by Gardner, Bosch hit top gear, bringing the equation down to just 27 off seven overs. At that moment, just a glance at the South African dug-out was enough to observe a few smiling faces. Meanwhile, there were quite a few glum faces in the Australian camp. Although Wolvaardt was dismissed in the 15th over, it was too little too late for Australia. Somewhere, the South African coaching staff too deserves plaudits. They opted to bowl and it worked. Perhaps it was based on how it seemed to get easier for batting when the West Indies hunted down the target at the same ground versus England. The field placings too were on the money. For instance, Tryon mostly bowled from round the wicket to Beth Mooney, with the mid-on up in the circle. It was an attempt to entice her to smash the spinner over mid-on. It almost gave them dividends. More importantly, the South African batters, especially Wolvaardt and Bosch never pressed the panic button. The think-tank would have played their part in ensuring there is a sense of calmness in the dressing room. Brief scores: Australia 134/5 in 20 overs (Beth Mooney 44; Ayabonga Khaka 2-24) lost to South Africa 135/2 in 17.2 overs (Anneke Bosch 74*, Laura Wolvaardt 42; Annabel Sutherland 2-26) by eight wickets.
