I really donât understand how Zayn fans are saying only the long term fans should buy tickets. I saw this happening with Niall and Louis too. Iâm all for everyone having their own opinion but to call someone out for not being a fan long enough is just bizarre to me.
Hello anon, and welcome to the show!
soooooo this is a tricky one. we see it with pretty much any super famous and well loved high profile artist/band, most recently, with Oasis.
while oasisâs fanbase is a totally different demographic to one direction and their solo careers, there has been MASSIVE arguments about who deserves tickets, if youâre a âreal fanâ or over the age of ___ you should get first access etc etc., and itâs a very frustrating debate.
I couldnât give less of a fuck about oasis btw lol (sorry louis), so Iâm not deep into whatever is happening there, but thatâs the gist of what Iâve seen. but listen⌠the thing is is that the demand is extremely high and they unfortunately canât play to absolutely everybody who wants a ticket. more frustratingly, the prices of tickets are now through the roof, so a lot of fans canât even see their fave artist even with a ticket at the very back of the venue. itâs disgusting and live music should not be a luxury, but I digress
Personally, I can empathise with the folks who feel this way. Iâm not saying that new fans donât deserve tickets, or that they shouldnât buy tickets, but I think the frustration runs far deeper than that for these folks, and thatâs not the newer fansâ fault. Itâs the ticket buying system, and Artist loyalty.
Ticketmaster is proper broken these days too hahahaha. The dynamic pricing (anon who messaged me about this I am getting to you promise xx) model, the website not handling copious amounts of traffic which they should be expecting, multiple onsales at the same time for a million different shows, the number system, etcâŚ. Itâs just all a bit yucky, and itâs frustrating fans to no end. Just have a look at all the TS stuff that happened with the Eras tour. Fans were purchasing tickets and then lost them immediately, got kicked out before the timer finished, tickets flew out the door, so many were bought by scalpers because of the high demand, some people were in line on that website for 3 hours before it finally let them in and said that there were tickets still available, but when they went to pay, the tickets disappeared. Itâs crazy.
And so ticketing try to break this up into timezones, presales, etc. but itâs still too much to handle and not enough tickets. And it comes down to how much the artist wants to perform, venue bookings, profit, exclusivity, scheduling and itâs very frustrating and unfair that only some folks get tickets, but it is the way it is. But I still hold Ticketmaster/ticketek/all ticketing platforms to up their damn game because itâs bullshit lol
Anyway, so thatâs already a hurdle of going and seeing your fave artist. So youâre already not guaranteed a ticket due to how many people want to go, and then that frustration morphs and itâs like well⌠I should be guaranteed a ticket because Iâve been here for years and Iâve grown up with this band/theyâve meant everything to me/this is finally my chance to see them/ive followed them for 15 years or whatever, and then that brings in an emotional side to it that just exacerbates the frustration of the availability vs demand.
On top of that, when it comes to 1d, they went on âhiatusâ like 9 years ago, and theyâre all doing solo stuff. 3/5 are doing successful world tours, liam hasnât dropped any new music/marketing/a plan to tour in ages, and zayn is finally comfortable enough to be back. Itâs amazing! Iâm sooooooo happy for him. But itâs a very tiny tour, and he hasnât toured in an extremely long time, and there were a hell of a lot of zayn girlies in the 1d days. So itâs the loyalty, of being a fan from the 1d days, throughout the hiatus, following all of their solo careers afterwards and still being an active part of the fandom, can feel like you deserve this more than others because youâve been here the whole time. And no one deserves to see live music more than other people. Iâm a massive believer that it should be accessible to everyone. But when we talk about âreal fansâ or not, itâs so much more of a larger problem than just who has been a fan for longer. Itâs all of the above, and venue sizes/avails, and finances etc.
Itâs a bit different with Harry because he did a million stadiums, so way more people had way more chances to get tickets⌠the demand was high, but there was a lot more availability. Louis, niall, and zayn have been and are doing theatre and arena shows, which are not as often consecutively in the same city as harryâs, and so the fear of missing out on tickets just runs all that deeper.
You canât verify a âreal fanâ though. Like⌠how would you do a âreal fanâ presale? A buzzfeed quiz on how many songs you can name? A photo of all your merch? Tweets from when you were 13 about that artist? Nope. Doesnât work like that, which just layers on that exasperation. Buying tickets has now become hard work.
And everyone wants to see their favourite artist, but if youâve been waiting 15 years as opposed to 2, you can understand the frustration with the system. Itâs a similar thing as the argument on 18+ shows for 1dâs reunion (which I am for btw) - not ALL shows will be 18+, there will be obviously AA shows in those same cities as well. Thatâd be the deal, and thatâs how theyâd run it. And itâs not trying to be a âcoolerâ show, even though I think those boys would jump at the chance to only play to 18+ and make it NOT a family show bc theyâre disgusting lol, but itâs a good way to divvy up the tickets. And there are fans that are over 18 who have only liked 1d/solos for 2 months, and they could get a ticket. But the point is that there is room for people who grew up with them to have a chance.
Itâs unfortunate that people feel this way though, because we shouldnât be taking it out on each other and deciding who should be able to support our fave artist/band, it should be good vibes and everyone should be able to see them. But when youâve been around for almost 14/15 years reblogging photos and actively taking part in a fandom, itâs understandable to feel like you deserve a ticket.
I donât condone any of these feelings to then become attacks towards newer or younger fans though, mind you. I think itâs awful to start making people feel like shit that they havenât been a fan long enough, and thatâs very yucky. You shouldnât feel like youâre not worthy to be in a fandom or go to a concert just because youâve not been around as long, ever. Thatâs not cool. Weâre all here enjoying ourselves as a team, supporting people who make us happy. Everyone whoâs a fan, is a real fan.
So yeah. This is quite a ramble but I hope it may have helped unravel a bit as to why people are expressing these feelings, and why they have them. And we can talk about all different ways to make ticketing easier, like the ballot system, 18+/AA, more shows, multiple ticketing platforms etc. but at the end of the day, this is what weâre dealing with and people are annoyed af at the whole thing.
thanks for coming xx

Speaking of jcs, can I have a rating of the musicals/ different versions?
HOWDY, IM SO GLAD YOU ASKED.
keep in mind ive only watched a handful of recordings or productions compared to other ppl but i do have Opinions on the ones ive watched. [cracks knuckles] so:
1. biased maybe because i just watched it but the 50th anniversary arena tour (circa early 2023, there have been other castings last year ik but this year's one is the one i love). i had the chance to go see it bc it was in my state this month and its the latest one i've watched but it instantly blew away all the other versions i've seen. just... the great singing of 1996 london cast and great acting of 1973 movie and creative staging like the 2018 live in concert.... it had everything and there was not a single ball dropped or a single bad or even meh actor or song or artistic decision. i am usually not one to rec ppl to go buy a ticket to an event but seeing it was the best intro to musical theater or live performances i could have ever had and AHHHHHH. sm details of this will stay in my mind forever re: jcs i can't pick one thing to deacribe bc it's Everything and i'd be here for two hours if i tried. it has my FAVORITE ending of any jcs production and idk if any other production will compare to the high intensity emotions and poetics and symbolism combined with amazing singing like this one.
2. have to go with 1996 london cast recording. i havent seen it and idk if there are even any bootleg recordings of it, but the album is The jcs album i relisten to. fucking A+++. again, maybe i'm biased bc this was my first full jcs album (as opposed to random songs), but idk if anything else but the 1973 movie studio recording album can compare purely musically to me. i love how you can HEAR the acting in the emotional singing while also not sacrificing the singing itself (looking at you 2000 movie judas), and idk i feel like it so clearly tells the story in the tone even without being able to see it, and that's fantastic. every other jcs production in terms of singing and audible acting gets compared to this one, for me. this is the one i hear in my head when i remember or mentally sing the lyrics.
3. 1973 movie. carl anderson. first official filmed jcs production. 70's outfits. meta narrative. do i need to say anything else? this was my second jcs version i consumed when i Got Into It and man im glad it was. when i first watched it, it seemed kinda just alright (probably bc im not a huge fan of movies from the 70's or 80's), but the further time goes on the more i realize this is kinda just The jcs. the classic jcs. i said 1996 london cast recording is what i compare everything else to musically, but i feel like this version is the one that every other version has to live up to. simple question: is your jcs production better than carl anderson painfully crying out "he won't listen to me!" on a mountain in the desert in a fringe outfit as jesus steps out of a tour bus, yes or no? and most of the time the answer is no.
i'm not a huge fan of older movies but the acting and music in this is top tier, the costuming is fun most of the time, the sets are neat, and the underlying metanarrative about an acting group performing jcs inuniverse for a film or smth is rlly interesting. it's the only other jcs album i have saved in my music folder besides the 1996 london cast recording. 9/10
also as a judas fan this is also the judas i compare every other judas to bc... goddamn carl anderson covers every base. desperation and anger and righteousness and tenderness and pain and bitterness and longing.... he has the range. and honestly it's got my favorite version of Superstar so far. i don't think anyone else has topped carl anderson's version yet.
4. swedish arena tour (idr the year). amazing casting, AMAZING acting, fucking incredible costumes, great singing. the only reason it's this far down this list is bc i prefer other character interpretations, but like, the appeal of bisexual vampy switch jesus who flirts with most of the apostles inbetween his main love interests of biker milf mary magdalene and legolas-in-a-mesh-shirt judas... simply cannot be understated. pretty much every artistic decision is 7 or higher out of 10. it's a very consistently good production, and a very gay one. i like the swedish translated lyrics also.
5. 2000 movie. i think everyone knows by now how bad this one is but it's so campy and jcs is inherently ridiculous as both the appeal and the concept that it loops back around to being good. it's not my fave version but it was my third jcs version and it was honestlly rlly fun to watch. what it lacks in singing, it makes up for in acting. i think Heaven On Their Minds, Everything's Alright, This Jesus Must Die, The Last Supper, and Superstar are the numbers that shine here. i think this movie is actually my favorite versions of everything's alright and this jesus must die. i really like the symbolism they try to use in this one. ik i said i genuinely think the acting makes up for the singing, but this might be higher if judas actually SANG. or if pilate was less sympathetic bc i actually hate this pilate djdjfj this version gets points for being much less antisemitic than other jcs productions with the priests, and then immediately loses them by being noticibly more racist than others in the temple. also my favorite peter is in this one. his acting in the last supper is like 25% of my enjoyment of this version.
6. 2018 live concert. full disclosure, i haven't finished this one yet, but i love it so far. i love the outfits and the staging and the energy and casting. this singing is not my favorite and i'm genuinely not sure if john legend knows how to act or if they just cast him bc he's john legend (i'll find out in the second half ig bc i also didn't like the acting of the 50th anniversary tour jesus in the first half and THEN--) but judas does a good enough version of heaven on their minds which is my main criteria for judging a jcs production in personal likes and i do Love the meta themes of casting a real superstar singer as jesus christ given the themes of the musical. i like the dynamics between judas and mary in this one. i think judas is in the closet in this one which is very sad but his outfits absolutely make up for it. it is a spectacle and a half and i'm enjoying it so far. it might get bumped up to #5 depending on how the second half goes.
7. original concept album. i know it's very weird putting the origin of the whole thing at the bottom, but that's not because it's bad, it's just not smth i'm in love with as a whole. i do need to relisten to it--actually i will do that today--but it was really good the first time i heard it, i'm just not a fan of the sound of early rock and prefer the way various versions adapt the music in progressively more modern times. objectively talented singing tho and heaven on their minds goes OFF. i may have more takes after relistening, but that's it rn.
8. i've listened to a bunch of other tidbits of assorted performances, mostly judas solos, bc as i said, i judge a jcs production by its heaven on their minds performance and i went scouring through classic and modern versions of that at one point. this is not part of the proper ranking bc i haven't listened to them in full, but i wanted to mention them here at the end. if anyone wants a list of my fave recs of that to look into:
original mexican cast (1975)
original japanese cast (1976)
mexican revival cast (1984)
original russian cast (1992)
original czech cast (1994)
jesus christ surferstar (2003)
all female jcs recording (2022)
most of these albums can be found just uploaded on youtube or even spotify which is very cool, please check them out, i had fun skipping thru them.
and uhhhh there's all the versions i've watched in full, or mostly watched, and a few of the ones i've done neither! ik this is very long (longer than i intended) but i hope this is what u were looking for and was entertaining or helpful!!
#salute emoji#my post#jcs#ask#thank u for sending this ask i got to gush abt jcs productions#rlly hope this is at all what u were asking for fjfnfn

Ivory Runs Red: 5/6

First off, massive thanks to the @cssnsâ, my beta @demisexualemmaswanâ, and my artist @cocohook38â. Cocohook created this amazing cover art, and she is working on something else too to go with this story. The rough sketch made my jaw drop, so I canât wait for yaâll to see it!
This part is going to be a little long, but I need to address something that I got multiple comments about. Just bear with me; this is the only way I can think to clear things up. I was really surprised to see that some people were angry at David and Mary Margaret for not doing anything to find Emma and/or "allowing" her relationship with Neal. Others simply expressed things along the lines of "I hope you explain what David and Mary Margaret did about all this." The reason this reaction surprised me so much is because I thought it was clear that they HAD done something. Why would the Golds need to get rid of police files if the Swans never reported Emma missing? Why would issues of the newspaper be missing from the library if Emma's disappearance wasn't reported on? Obviously, David and Mary Margaret did something! As for Neal, they had no idea Emma was seeing him. If you'll recall, in a previous chapter, Emma told Killian she had to sneak out at night to meet Neal. So that wasn't Snowing's fault either. Also, how would any of these characters know what David and Mary Margaret did or didn't do for their daughter? This is almost a hundred years later, and Emma's memories are dulled from being a ghost for so long. The only way I could spell out clearly how Snowing handled their daughter's disappearance would be some sort of convoluted info-dump, and I didn't want to destroy the tone and mood of the story to do that. But just so everyone knows: Yes, Emma's parents were devastated. They did everything in their power to find her, never giving up hope (which is so in character for them!). They died still believing she was either still out there or that crimes against her had gone unpunished. It broke their hearts. The Golds spread rumors that Emma was some kind of slut who ran away with a guy, and the people of Storybrooke overall thought the Swans had gone crazy. So there it is, that's the back story that I just couldn't figure out how to fit in the story, lol.
I'm not mad at the questions, to be clear. I was just surprised by them. I guess I blame the show for ruining these two as parents the last couple of seasons. Maybe that's why everyone jumped on them so fast. I was also honestly worried that ya'll would be upset with me for not addressing the topic, hence this long explanation! No one was rude by any means, so don't go trying to defend me from nonexistent trolls, lol! My feelings have NOT been hurt. I simply wanted to address the questions that were asked and the misplaced anger toward Snowing. (Not anger towards me - but fictional characters!)
Okay, now that I've cleared all THAT up, let's get on with the next chapter, shall we? And I'll go ahead and warn you: this is gonna hurt . . .
Summary: When ebony flashes gold, blood runs cold. When ivory runs red, youâll be dead. Killian Jones had heard the old rhyme his entire life. Every child did in Storybrooke, Maine. They heard it whispered in the dark at sleepovers as children; taunted as a challenge as teenagers. Killian never believed it was actually true. Until that fateful night âŚ
Rated M for graphic depictions of violence, abusive relationships, and major character death (I mean, itâs a ghost story yaâll, people are dead. BUT I promise, there is a happy ending. Trust me? *peeks from around a corner*)

Chapter Five: Run
âYouâve got to tell them what you saw - what youâve learned,â Killian pleaded.Â
Graham shook his head, his curly hair falling in his eyes as he stared at the slender hands he clasped in his. His eyes were bloodshot, his jaw sported far more facial hair than it normally did, and Killian didnât have to ask if heâd slept in the past forty-eight hours.Â
âThey wonât believe me.â
Killianâs jaw clenched in frustration. âBut if I saw Emma, and you saw her, then maybe theyâll believe -â
âThat Belle saw a ghost push Mike Gaston off the troll bridge? Theyâll believe that? Really?â Graham let out a sarcastic, bitter laugh. âYou really are just a naive kid if thatâs what you're thinking.â
âBut youâre a cop!â
âIâm still only nineteen! Theyâll think weâre just over-imaginative teenagers.â Graham paused, reaching up with one hand to trace the curve of Belleâs cheek as she slept in her drug-induced prison. âThat will land us in rooms just down the hall with our own IV full of an antipsychotic cocktail. How will I help her then?â
âYouâve fallen in love with her.â It wasnât a question.Â
Graham sighed. âHow could I not? And how could he -â He broke off, his blue eyes flashing. âIâm not sorry heâs dead. If Iâd been there and saw him hurt her -â
âShh, I wouldnât say things like that. Not here.â
Killianâs gaze fell to the bruises around Belleâs neck, and he didnât blame Graham at all. It terrified him to think what could have happened if Emma hadnât shown up.
âHistory repeats itself,â he murmured under his breath.Â
*************************************************
Killian had scarcely arrived at the bridge when headlights blinded him. He turned away, blinking, stumbling, refusing to be stopped.Â
âEmma! Emma!â he shouted. He tripped and dropped his flashlight. It broke as it hit the ground, rolling to the edge of the bridge. Now all he could see was ebony before him and radiant luminescence behind him.Â
His palms scraped against the asphalt as Liam hauled him to his feet. His brother gripped his upper arms so tightly it was almost painful, and he gave him a brief shake.Â
âYouâve got to stop this!â
Killian fought him. âI have to see her!â
Liam had always been broader than Killian with an unfair advantage in all their childhood tussles. Even now, Killian was no match for him as he lifted him bodily with one arm and hauled him over to his car.Â
âYou need help!â Liam literally tossed him into the backseat.Â
âIâm not going home!â Killian tried to scramble out, but Liam just shoved him back inside.Â
âGood, because Iâm not taking you home.â
*******************************************************
âWhy wonât you be straight with us, kid?â
Killian glared at the detective with a cynical sneer. The psychiatrist on the copâs left frowned at Killianâs attitude. The choice of words was cruel considering he was in a literal straightjacket. His vision of the two men was obscured by the long strands of dark hair before his eyes. Haircuts were apparently seen as a luxury on the psych ward.Â
âIâve answered all your questions,â Killian finally told them wearily, âyou just donât like what I had to say.â
âBecause we want the truth,â the psychiatrist, Dr. Archie Hopper, said gently. He was clearly playing the part of âgood cop.â Or âgood doctor.â Whatever.
âI told you the truth.â
âThereâs no such thing as ghosts.â
Killian snorted a laugh. âTell that to Mike Gaston.â
The detectiveâs voice took on a harsh, warning tone. âMike Gaston was the victim of murder.â
âThe victim!â Killian cried, his voice snapping up. âWhat about the bruises he put on Belle? Or the fact that I nearly died when he tied me to that bridge!â
The detectiveâs lips curled up in a lewd sneer as he lit a cigarette. âIf some horny teenager likes it a bit rough, thatâs none of my business.â
Killian fought his bonds, his jaw clenching at the detectiveâs insinuation. He was as bad as Neal Gold, maybe worse. He had to be pushing fifty at least, and a pot belly strained at his button up shirt. His eyes widened as Killian raged.
âBothers you though, I see.â He leaned forward. âNobody blames you for wanting her, kid. Nobody blames you for being jealous. But murder? Thatâs a different story.â
âI told you I had nothing to do with that!â
The detective glanced at Dr. Hopper, and the soft spoken psychiatrist took over. âKillian, start at the beginning for us. What did Belle say when she called you that night?â
âIâm telling you, she didnât call me, she didnât come to my house. I saw her early that afternoon at the library. That was it. Then my brother got a phone call that there had been an accident, and we came to the hospital.â
âYou and Belle were at the library together a lot,â Hopper said softly, âwhat did you two do there?â
Killian rolled his eyes. He hated the patronizing way the man asked the question. âWe studied. Did our homework. We were friends.â
The detective snorted again, and Killian wanted to scream. âDrop the act, kid. You really expect us to believe that you spent all that time with her, all that time with a hot chick, and you never fucked her?â
Dr. Hopper recoiled at the foul language, and Killian thought his own jaw might actually break.Â
âYouâre just as much a misogynistic, narrow-minded, neanderthal as Mike Gaston.â
The detective grinned and slapped Dr. Hopper on the knee. âYou were right, shrink, this kidâs smart.â He took another puff of his cigarette as he eyed Killian. âSmart enough to plan an elaborate murder with your knocked-up girlfriend?â
âThatâs the most ridiculous - wait - did you say knocked up?â
âHm,â the detective mused, leaning back in his chair and rubbing at his five oâclock shadow. âYou didnât know?â
Killian was horrified when a laugh slipped past his lips. Another bitter laugh followed, then another, until before he knew it, he was shaking with them. He was laughing hysterically while wearing a straightjacket. That thought made him laugh even more, and if he didnât seem like a lunatic before, he sure as hell did now.Â
âWhat the hell is so funny?â thundered the detective.
Killianâs laughter stopped abruptly and he leveled the man with an intense stare. âHistory repeating itself. Thatâs whatâs so funny.â
A smile that he knew bordered on manic curled his lips. Yes, history had repeated itself, and this time, Emma Swan had won.Â
************************************************************
They didnât have enough to charge him, or Belle, or anyone else really with Gastonâs murder. It was officially declared an accident, and theoretically, Belle French and Killian Jones were free to move on.Â
Killian wouldnât say it was easy for Belle. She had severe trauma from that terrifying night, and she ended up losing the baby because of it. Nevertheless, she had Dr. Hopperâs patient help, her fatherâs support, and Grahamâs unwavering devotion. Soon, though it would be a long time before she was truly healed, she was able to go home.Â
Killian, on the other hand, didnât really want to go home. For one, he, unlike Belle and Graham, refused to stop talking about Emma - refused to lie and say he made it up. He didnât fault his friends for it; didnât take it as a betrayal. He even understood their reasoning when they begged him to do the same and just play along, damn it. He simply couldnât do it. Emma was too real, too precious. He knew her in a way they never would. He knew the feel of her skin, the taste of her lips. He wouldnât - couldnât - let that go.
The psych ward wasnât so bad. The drugs numbed him to the point that he sailed on a sea of oblivion half the time. Heâd stopped fighting, so there was no more straight jacket, no more bed straps.Â
And she came to him. Sometimes the drugs meant he wasnât lucid enough to really carry on a conversation. On those nights, she curled up next to him on the bed. She ran her fingers through his hair and caressed his cheeks. She pressed kisses to his lips, and sometimes he could respond in kind.Â
Other times, though admittedly rare, they would talk. About everything and nothing at all. One night, they talked about their dreams for later, after high school, and suddenly Emma began to weep.Â
âI know,â he soothed, brushing her forehead with a kiss, âyou fear you can never have that. But maybe we can figure it out. If we somehow get the truth out. About your murder -â
Emma silenced him with a finger to his lips. âThat isnât it, Killian. Itâs you. I have no more tomorrows but you can.â
His brow furrowed, and she sighed and soothed the lines away with the pad of her thumb.Â
âBut not if you keep holding onto me.â
His arms instinctively pulled her closer. âIâll never let you go.â
She sighed, and sadness filled her eyes. She slipped out of his embrace and rose from the bed. Her skin grew white, her gown floated in an ethereal way at her feet. He frowned and scrambled to a sitting position.Â
âI have to say goodbye,â she told him. She said it with an edge of discovery in her voice. Her lips turned up in a soft smile even as a tear slipped down her cheek.Â
He shook his head and tried to reach for her, to leave the bed, but he had just enough drugs in his system to make his movements sluggish and ineffectual.Â
âI wonât let you see me again.â
âNo, Emma, please! I love you!â
âAnd I love you. Thatâs why I have to do this.âÂ
She was already fading away. Killian made a fist and slammed it into his thigh. Tears stung his eyes.Â
âBe happy,â she told him, âfor me.â
Then she was gone.

Can I get a request for a John Kennex x Reader? Soulmate Au or maybe even that fate keeps throwing them together? You're freaking amazing BTW *Hugs*
SCREAMS YES??? I LOVE SOULMATE AUS SO MUCH!!!!!! And, I mean, look at him!! What a cutie. What a fucking smartass. I HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS!!!!! Also @writerdee1701 here is some John Kennex!! ( @outside-the-government i think ive seen you reblog Kennex stuff but if not!! iâm sorry!)
A soulmate wasnât something you wanted. You had sat and suffered and cried over thinking that you had one only to lose it because it wasnât real and for what? Because the world â the universe? â told you that you were supposed to have a soulmate? Because the moment you turned eighteen the first words your soulmate was meant to say to you appeared on your arm?
No way.
So, after months of intensive therapy and accepting a new job in a city on the opposite side of the country, you did what any sane-but-majorly-depressed person would do: you got the tattoo covered.
You brushed your thumb over the healed black band that encircled your left arm, smiling to yourself â your sister, bless her, had suggested adding flowers, and your tattoo artist had been more than happy to include blooming flowers all around the band, even going so far as to outline them in UV ink, so that you could see the pieces that would be covered by the band itself. You tugged the sleeve of your shirt down to your wrist as you walked into the building, ready for another day at work â another case, another job well done.
You sighed and nodded at your MX-43 as you sat at your desk.
âDonât look so excited to be here.â You looked up at the voice and felt your lips curl in a smile. John Kennex returned it and held out a second cup of coffee. You took with a grateful grin. âDunno if you heard, but weâre workinâ a case together today,â he said, leaning on your desk.
You arched an eyebrow as you took a slow sip from your cup. It was just how you liked it, and it warmed you from the inside out. âAgain?â you finally asked after another deep drink. He nodded. âYou know, if I didnât know better, Iâd almost say we were partners,â you teased.
âI think the captain likes our closure rate,â he pointed out.
âUh, you mean my closure rate,â you said as you drained your cup and stood, âYou just happen to be along for the ride.â
âOh?â he challenged.
You nodded and grabbed your things from your desk. âYeah.â
âThose sound like fighting words,â he remarked.
You hummed. âIf they were fighting words, Iâd say you were there to look pretty, but thatâs Dorianâs job!â you chirped. You wrinkled your nose. âYou do give good hugs though, so, thereâs that.â You patted his chest as you walked past him. âLetâs go!â
Captain Maldonado leaned out of her office as you and John walked past her with a shout of, âMasks!â Both of you lifted your hands and waved over your shoulders.
You didnât mind sitting in the back of Johnâs cruiser with your MX, rubbing your thumb over your tattoo as Dorian and your MX rattled off the particulars of the case. You felt eyes on your face throughout the ride but didnât look up to meet them. When John pulled up to the crime scene, he waved Dorian ahead with your MX and grabbed your arm before you walked past. It took you a moment to look up and, when you did, he was frowning.
âWhere are you?â he whispered. You opened your mouth. He shook his head. âDonât say here, or thinking about the case,â he murmured, âYou didnât hear a word Dorian said on the way here.â
You sighed. âMy sister found her soulmate,â you said as you waved towards the bright light line of the ticker tape. John shoved his hands in his pockets as he walked with you. âItâs funny, sheâs been living next door to him for a year while teaching in Scotland, and she didnât know it was him until she ran into him in the hall during laundry day. He had a bird on his shoulder, this big thing, she sent me a picture of it, actually.â You adjusted your mask and pulled out your phone, opening the picture. It was side by side with another photo, one of a bird with its wing in a splint.
John nodded at it. âWhatâs that?â he asked.
You smiled to yourself. âBefore she left, we found a bird in our building parking lot. It had a broken wing, and Maria, sheâs got this huge soft spot for birds, so we took it to the vet and they walked us through how to take care of it.â
âAnd itâs the same bird her soulmate has tattooed, right?â he asked.
âHow, how, how does it know that?â you asked, stopped short of the crime scene. You scratched at your arm through your sleeve. âShe got her mark when she turned eighteen just like everyone else, and it was a, a, a set of card suits to a losing hand of poker, which turned out to be the exact same hand that Richard had when he lost a bet that ended up with him applying to college to be a teacher.â You shook your head. âI donâtâI donât understand.â
Johnâs eyebrows were arched high when you finally looked at him. You ran your fingers behind your ears to adjust your mask while he carefully pulled his off and scratched his chin. âIf it makes you feel better,â he said with one of those crooked, amused smiles of his, âI donât understand it either.â
âNo, it doesnât make me feel better, John, because no one understands it,â you shot back, puffing your cheeks. You turned on your heel and stalked towards the dead body and Dorian and your MX were patiently waiting for you by.
âIâm just trying to make you feel better!â he shouted after your retreating form.
âA for effort!â you shouted back.
The case was a bust in terms of being complicated â the body was a mess, but there was a phone left behind, and a tagged post from the victim with someone else, a boyfriend, who confessed the moment he saw you rolling up to his apartment by shouting out of his window and jumping from it. He wound up with a broken leg and was sitting for sentencing.
John paused at a desk in the bullpen when the two of you returned. You glanced back quickly to find him talking with Valerie, and smiled, pulling off your mask. Dorian followed after you as you wandered back to your desk.
âWhatâs your mark?â he asked when you sat down.
You glanced up from setting your mask in the UV sanitizer. âThatâsâŚâ You leaned back and cleared your throat. âThatâs a little out of the blue for you, D.â You shook your head, then picked up your keyboard and started to type out your report. âWhat, uh, what gives?â
âSaw you and John talking about soulmates earlier,â he said as he pulled up a chair. When you glanced up, he smirked. âI can read lips,â he answered.
You gently tossed your keyboard away from you and sighed. Your eyes drifted across the bullpen. Johnâs smile still hadnât faded. âDo you know Chromes donât have soulmate marks?â you commented.
âNo, no, I didnât know that,â Dorian replied.
You nodded, âMhmm.â Then, scrubbed your hands over your face, you tilted your head back over the back of your chair. âSomething about the way that the changing of genetic make-up eliminates whatever code is programed in us that makes the soulmate tattoos.â You dropped your hands. âHe could pick Valerie and no one would argue about it.â
âYouâre jealous,â Dorian replied.
âNot jealous,â you shot back.
Dorian adjusted his feet and leaned closer. âSo, whatâs your mark?â he asked again.
You wrinkled your nose and sat up, pulling your keyboard back to you. Dorian continued to stare. You turned your arm over and yanked up your sleeve. He took your wrist to turn your arm out more. âI got it covered up,â you said, stroking your thumb over a spot in the middle of the black band. âI kinda had a melt down after my mark appeared, and when I finally started to really believe that a soulmate doesnât make a person, I got it covered.â
âSo, what was it?â he asked again. He pushed your thumb aside and brushed his fingers over the band. As he did so, you felt eyes land on you. You set your cheek on your fist. The lights on the side of Dorianâs face lit up. âI see UV ink,â he said as he continued to trace the tattoo, âFlowers?â
âMoonflowers,â you answered with a shrug, âThey only bloom once and in very specific conditions.â
âLike a soulmate,â he added with a smile. He looked back down at the band. âIs that a rectangle?â
You pulled your arm back and tugged the sleeve down. âYeah,â you said. You swallowed a lump that had formed in your throat. âYeah, just a rectangle.â
âNo, there was something elseââ
âEverything okay here?â You and Dorian looked up. John stood in front of your desk, glancing between the two of you with a concerned frown. You scratched your neck and nodded, motioning to your screen. Dorian stood and pushed the chair back where it belonged. âYou sure?â John asked you.
You nodded again. âYeah.â You sat back, adjusting the keyboard in front of you. âIâm gonna stay and finish this report. Iâll send it in for the both of us, okay?â
âYou sure?â
âIâm sure.â You smiled. âGet outta here.â
He hesitated by your desk, knocking his knuckles against it. âLet me know if you need help, okay?â he murmured.
You stared at him. âJohnââ
âIâm goinâ,â he sighed.
You fished around in your bag and pulled out a set of wireless headphones, then synced it up to your phone, and got to work. Valerie left with a man you didnât recognize, and Richard walked out after her a few hours later. Captain Maldonado left shortly after them. The lights dimmed and the MXâs headed off to the elevators that took them down to the basement. You stretched your arms above your head and groaned, then tugged the sleeves of your shirt up and twisted around in your seat.
Someone pulled your headphone off. You jumped. John stepped back, holding his hands up. The set dangled from his fingers.
âDidnât mean to scare you,â he said with an amused smile.
âWhy are you still here?â you sighed, rubbing your face. You flopped back into your seat and turned to your computer. John pulled up a chair. He set the headphones down after powering them off, then slid a glass over to you. You stared at it.
âItâs bourbon,â he said with a nod to the glass. You turned your chair slowly until you faced him. âThought you could use it.â
You picked it up. âYou thought right,â you slowly said. He held up his glass. You clinked your own against it with a smile.
As John took a slow drink, he pointed at your arm. You turned it out towards him. âDorian said it was a moonflower?â
You stopped, the glass to your lips. âWhy?â you hesitantly asked.
He stared at your tattoo for a long time. Then, he gulped down the rest of his bourbon and pulled up his sleeve. On the outside of his bicep was a simple rectangle. He turned his arm out and showed you the inside of his arm. The outline of a familiar flower stared back at you. You practically threw your glass onto the desk and slid to the edge of your seat. You traced the flower with a faint touch.
âIt was on my leg,â he said after a long stretch of silence. You bit your lip. âNurse in the ICU was nice enough to draw it better for me after about a hundred ugly little sketches.â You gasped out a laugh, dazed at the fact that it was there, right in front of you. âSo, whatâs in the rectangle?â he asked.
You glanced up, too engrossed in the fact that your flower was tattooed on his skin. The flower you had thought a good representation of a soulmate - something you made, that was unique, that only appeared after certain conditions were met. You shook your head faintly, and whispered, âThe name Reginald in your shitty handwriting.â
âYou knew?â he asked.
You licked your lips and hesitantly pulled your hands back. âI dunno, I didnât know for sure, I hadnât seen the handwriting since I got it covered up, Iââ
John cupped your face in his hands, cutting your sentence off. He leaned in, paused, then closed the gap between you both in a surprisingly soft kiss. Your eyes fluttered closed.
Soulmate or not, you couldnât believe that he returned your feelings. You gripped the front of his shirt and kissed him back.

Top 10 Personal Favorite Hit Songs from 2020
You know, when I finished my latest list and realised every decade had the same pattern and that we were slowly going towards a series of great years for pop, I didnât realise how good that year would be.
Whatâs at the top? Am I boringly predictable because I already said I loved that song all the way back in January 2020? Letâs find out.
Disclaimers:
Keep in mind Iâm using both the year-end top 100 lists from the US and from France while making these top 10 things. Thereâs songs in English that charted in my country way higher than they did in their home countries, or even earlier or later, so that might get surprising at times.
Of course there will probably be stuff in French somewhere on this post. We suck. I know. Itâs my list. Deal with it.
My musical tastes have always been terrible and Iâm not a critic, just a listener and an idiot.
I have sound to color synesthesia which justifies nothing but might explain why I have trouble describing some songs in other terms than visual ones.
So. Uh. How was your 2020?
Mine was actually surprisingly good, considering. Iâm lucky enough to have a job that I can partially do from home, and I was extremely paranoid from the get-go and nobody got sick under this roof so far. Turns out Iâm even better at my job from home and I got permission to work from home one day per week even after the health crisis is over! My first name was also finally officially approved and I canât tell you how happy I feel about that. I almost feel bad to have had such a good year considering the circumstances. I feel like an asshole just because Iâm happy, haha.
The only frustrating part was that I was supposed to see Hatari in concert in Paris in early April which, as you can guess, was cancelled. Iâm not too mad about it though, since their tour was called âEurope will crumbleâ and the message saying the tour was cancelled started with âsince Europe is actually crumbling due to Covid-19âł and thatâs hysterical.
Good or interesting albums that came out in 2020 now, letâs see.
Nightwish released Human/Nature, which was a huge letdown compared to their previous album, but I will relisten to it at some point to make sure I wasnât just in a bad mood that day.
The Birthday Massacre released Diamonds, which might be their weakest album since their debut, but contained some real gems (I listened to The Last Goodbye on a loop, it floored me. Flashback and Enter are also very good).
The 1975 released Notes On A Conditional Form, and letâs be real, itâs a fâcking mess. You could cut half the tracks and end up with an excellent album, but as it is itâs like, yes, a collection of notes ; however thereâs some truely excellent shit on it (see unelligible songs).
Thanks to a friend on a discord server I was exposed to Dorian Electraâs music and I havenât been quite the same ever since. Iâm so happy to be alive to see other enbies making such great music with an insanely good aesthetic surrounding it and asking so many interesting questions about gender. Also the arc the âgentlemanâ character goes through over the course of the entire tracklist of the 2020 My Agenda album is absolutely hilarious, donât @ me.
I also discovered 100 Gecs this year. Why are most of you guys saying itâs unlistenable garbage. Itâs just as abrasive and over the top as industrial music is, but with none of the edginess or drama. I love it. What the hell. But yeah Tree of Clues was released this year. Good.
Speaking of industrial, in March 2020 Nine Inch Nails were like âhey remember when we released Ghosts I-IV a decade ago entirely for free and how amazing that was? Well weâre all in lockdown and bored as hell so hereâs Ghosts V-VI and itâs also free. Enjoyâ and I fâcking died instantly. And itâs even better than I-IV. What the hell was that year
Jonsi released Shiver. Itâs strange and highly experimental. Iâm pretty sure itâs a good thing I was into hyperpop this year, otherwise going from his previous material straight to this album would have been brutal.
Yadda yadda yadda After Hours by the Weeknd good yadda yadda.
Iâve joked about that already but if you had told me in 2019 that 2020 would have fires, a pandemic, riots, monoliths appearing and disappearing, and also a super good Machine Gun Kelly album, guess which part I would have found the most ridiculous. But yeah uh. Tickets to my Downfall good
So uh this year I tried to listen to some hyperpop and liked it a lot, and I also dipped my toes timidly into screamo and listened to Svalbard, who released When I Die this year, and the entire album was a very beautiful, very intricately decorated punch to the face. It sounds like God Is An Astronaut except with a shit ton of yelling. I love it. Open Wound is my favorite track on it.
But no, despite all of this, my album of the year was from a band I had never even heard about before that year, called Spanish Love Songs. The album is titled Brave Faces Everyone and itâs line after line after line of extremely relatable generational angst but yelled with complete sincerity and itâs so propulsive and energetic you canât help but feel both exhausted and ready to fight the entire universe. I donât know how it works, but itâs incredible. The entire album is wonderfully brutal, so itâs kind of difficult to pick my favorite songs on it, but Beachfront Property and the title track stand out.

Unelligible songs, now, and thereâs, uh, quite a few of them too so Iâm also gonna use bullet points. Good lord this post is gonna be long.
First, let me say I have literally no idea why Midnight Sky by Miley Cyrus wasnât a bigger hit. Itâs not on the year-end US top 100 and it feels extremely wrong. Would have made it to #4 on this list otherwise.
I still entertain the vague hope that stuff from Machine Gun Kelly will chart higher in 2021 but I doubt it will happen so I might as well tackle it now and say that Bloody Valentine and especially Forget Me Too are both excellent and that itâs a shame radios arenât playing them more often.
Heaven by the late Avicii featuring Coldplay should have charted in 2019 and still didnât chart in 2020 and thatâs a real shame.
If the world was a bit less unfair, Lovesick Girls by Blackpink would have been a hit rather than the awful Ice Cream.
One day I will stop complaining about my bafflement concerning the lack of mainstream pop charts success of The 1975. Today is not that day. I just love how they keep making songs about extremely awkward relationships full of weird details, and I havenât grown tired of that yet. So yeah If Youâre Too Shy is about a guy whoâs crush is asking him to get naked on Skype in his hotel room and heâs, uh, not too sure about that idea.
And Me & You Together is about a guy who never finds the right moment to tell his best friend heâs in love with her, and he manages to do so at the end and itâs cute as hell. My fave part is âI'm sorry that I'm kinda queer / It's not as weird as it appears / It's 'cause my body doesn't stop me (Stop me) / Oh, it's okay, lots of people think I'm gay / But we're friends, so it's cool, why would it not be?â. Relatable as fâck.
And now for an international hit that should have been bigger in the US and/or in my country but wasnât: Head & Heart by Joel Corry and MNEK.
Iâve heard Nos CĂŠlĂŠbrations by Indochine extremely often on French radio for months now so I was very surprised to see that it didnât crack the local year-end list. What happened.
I can finally hear the appeal of Bring Me The Horizon. It took me ages. And also Death Stranding. The song Ludens isnât in the game per say, but itâs among the ones you can pick to broadcast briefly when people drive by your constructions, and long story short it's been living rent-free in my head for months now.
Phew.
Itâs time for a round of Honorable Mentions for elligible songs, containing a couple of guilty pleasures, which is saying something considering the kind of shit I put on some of my previous lists.
Ne Reviens Pas (Gradur et Heuss lâEnfoirĂŠ) - Heuss is a French artist that kept baffling me while making my lists for the previous years, and I was like â??? ok, thatâs it then, I guess Iâm getting too old to get what teenagers find funnyâ. This one worked for me, though. And the music video doesnât hurt. Really dumb and really fun.
Adore You (Harry Styles) - Perfectly good little pop song, very pleasant to listen to, never outstayed its welcome for me.
Mood (24kGoldn) - This doesnât sound like a very good relationship, my dude, but thatâs still a super pleasant song.
WAP (Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion) - This song is absolutely hilarious and I will hear no argument from any of you.
Control (Zoe Wees) - Was clearly a hit here. Should have been even bigger though. What a powerful but comfy voice. If I had better taste it would be on the list.
Hot Girl Bummer (Blackbear) - I. Uh. Listen. I keep saying I have bad taste and nobody believes me. Do you believe me now. But yeah. âFâck you, and you, and you~, I hate your friends and they hate me tooâ is gonna pop in my head every single time someone is being a jerk anywhere near me now. Itâs been happening all year already. Someone trashed my documents at work? Someone isnât wearing a mask in public? That guy has filled his car with rolls of toilet paper? Brain goes âFâck you, and you, and you~â. Every. Single. Time.
Come & Go (Juice WRLD & Marshmello ) - Damn, thatâs a pretty good little song. Iâve seen plenty of people saying itâs ruined by the drop, but may I remind you Iâm the person who loves Blue by Eiffel 65 with all my heart. If the song was ramping up consistently until the end instead of ending like that, it would have made the list, definitely.
And now, the actual list. This one actually feels pretty solid, I genuinely like everything on it, thereâs no filler here for once.
10 - The Box (Roddy Rich)
US: #3 / FR: #23
Now this is a weird case, because for the longest time I couldnât figure out why this song was so popular and I was completely neutral about it. Then, one morning in September, my mental jukebox (which always, always puts a song on a loop in my head when I wake up) decided to play it. And I was like oh wow?? I never noticed the atmosphere in that song before? Itâs so great. And that hook too. Letâs listen to it.
So yeah, I donât know what happened. It just clicked one day and everything fell into place, I guess.
9 - Alane (Wes & Robin Shulz)
US: Not on the list / FR: #93
Come on. You canât do a remake of one of my previous #1 songs and let it chart in 2020. Thatâs cheating. Even with this subpar drop, I have to put it on the list, now.
Iâve already said my piece about the original, so Iâm just going to send you back to my 1997 list.
8 - Kings and Queens (Ava Max)
US: Not on the list / FR: #76
[BBC documentary voice] After Lady Gaga decided to make piano balads and left her musical niche vacant, Ava Max quickly took her place as the top predator pop diva. Even after Lady Gaga was re-introduced to her natural habitat in 2020, she still hasnât fully recovered in Europe, where Ava Max still reigns supreme on the charts -
(tldr I think itâs hilarious that this isnât on the US Billboard while Lady Gaga isnât on the French year-end top 100)
7 - Roses (Saint Jhn & Imanbek)
US: #19 / FR: #3
What an earworm. It doesnât even bother trying to have an intro or an outro, so it loops almost perfectly. Itâs like entering a party that started long before you arrived, and it will go on long after you leave it to go back home. Kind of hypnotic in a way.
And yes, my mental jukebox was very fond of using it to wake me up this year, so this is another song thatâs here almost solely because of that.
6 - Physical (Dua Lipa)
US: Not on the list / FR: #69 (hehehe)
âHey Iâm not that oldâ says the guy whoâs definitely a sucker for this kind of retro throwback that was so popular this year. Oh well.
I donât have anything interesting to say about this one, though. Apart from the fact that everyone seems to have a different fave song on that album. Guess thatâs quality for you.
5 - Rain on Me (Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande)
US: #48 / FR: Not on the list
That is far from being Lady Gagaâs best song, but it was a joy to listen to everytime it was on the radio anyway. Also Ariana Grande has surprisingly good chemistry with Gaga! This year was full of strange duets mostly made for commercial reasons, and this one isnât an exception, but unlike a lot of them, it really, really works.
4 - Dynamite (BTS)
US: #38 / FR: Not on the list
Iâm still not 100% sold on k-pop even if a ton of it sounds super good, but come on. Even if some bits of this song (especially the beginning of the second chorus) sound a bit like they were made on autopilot, it still sounds just as happy and fun several months after I first heard it and I never got tired of it. Thatâs quality. You hear it and you canât help but tap your feet and smile.
Actually, Iâm sure thereâs people somewhere that donât smile when they hear this song. And they must be avoided at all costs.
3 - Godzilla (Eminem ft Juice WRLD)
US: #62 / FR: Not on the list
What are you doing so high on this list, old man. Why are you still here in the year 2020. I thought we left you in the previous decade. Who gave you the right.
Iâm gonna tell you who did, and itâs actually Juice WRLD. Because that chorus is incredible, and like a lot of people Iâm pissed off because the guy died super young and this shit shouldnât happen to anybody. No, his early material wasnât great, but Iâm sorry Im gonna say it again: have you heard this damn chorus? Itâs suspenseful and dark, itâs got this lowkey menacing quality, itâs an earworm and a half, and itâs more convincing in like six lines than Eminemâs own flexing is in the entire song.
The beat is extremely good as well, and the flow, obviously, impressive. The weakest link is Eminemâs writing, which is as usual full of puns and weird wordplay, except here a lot of it isnât great, and that last ultra fast part at the end is technically impressive but it also drives the song up a cliff and stops it dead in its tracks once itâs over. But frankly the lines fly by so fast itâs difficult to be too annoyed by them.
Can I sincerely put this extremely flawed song so high on my list? A better question would be âdid I spend hours trying to learn how to sing this shit without choking on my own spit?â. The answer is yes. To both.
2 - Heartless (The Weeknd)
US: #28 / FR: Not on the list
Iâve said it on my 2015 and 2016 lists already, but just for the record Iâll say it again: it took me ages to like The Weeknd, mostly because I found most of his songs fairly boring, or disliked the lyrics, or both. Also I never really liked the general vibe of his âsexyâ songs like The Hills, they felt dark but in an unpleasant creepy way. Felt like miserable hedonism, if that makes sense.
So, because Iâm a person with extremely consistent and logical tastes, hereâs the exact same shit he was making before, except that this time I absolutely adore it.
What is he doing differently that makes the whole After Hours album click for me whereas almost all of his previous material failed to do so? Is it the energy? Is it the reverb? Is it the fact that the narrator sounds properly unhinged and, frankly, scared to be spiralling out of control? Why are the colors so beautiful yet full of anxiety? Why is that bridge so fantastic? How can you make your voice look like a glowstick in the dark?
I give up. I have no clue. At least Iâm done talking about-
Oh.
1 - Blinding Lights (The Weeknd)
US: #1 / FR: #1 (listen sometimes somethingâs just that good, ok)
Surprise. Or not.
Wow, look at that, Johannes has put this yearâs number one pop song at number one on their personal playlist. The audacity. The edge. What a hot take.
I discovered that song when it first came out at the end of 2019 and I adored it instantly. And I was so scared it wouldnât be a hit. Which means Iâm a fâcking dumbass considering it ended up breaking all sorts of records in 2020. But what can I say, overplay can be a blessing when you love a song that much.
Like every single song I put at number one on one of my lists, I will draw this one at some point and you will understand how incredibly satisfying it is to listen to a song called Blinding Lights, talking about city lights looking blurry when youâre driving at night, while looking itself like a bunch of blurry city lights passing by super fast. Perfect in every way.
Also it sounds exactly like A-ha, and that never hurts.
See you next year! Pretty sure it will be even better music-wise.

Remus followed his friends into Chez Bijou as Jamesâ car was driven off by the valet out front. The restaurant was still a culture shock for the artist, but he was significantly more comfortable than the last time he was there. As they were escorted to their table, Sirius kept his hand protectively on Remusâ back, guiding him towards his seat.
Sirius pulled out Remusâ chair for him, the same way James pulled out his wifeâs. Remus glanced over to Lily with a questioning look, but she simply smiled in return.
âUh⌠thanksâŚâ he mumbled to Sirius as he sat down. Sirius took the seat beside him, his eyes remaining focused on the artist. Remus felt like he was on display and he wasnât sure if he loved the sensation or hated it.
âSo!â James began, drawing the tableâs attention to himself. âSirius tells me you guys might have some news to share?â
Remus felt Siriusâ gaze on him, but he purposefully ignored it, glancing at Lily instead. Lily gave Remus an understanding nod before she answered her husband.
âYeah! Dorcas and Marlene represent a film studio whoâs looking for some paintings for a shoot. They asked Remus and I to produce three pieces each within the next two weeks!â
âThatâs amazing!â Jamesâ smile was so wide, it was almost as if he were the artist in question. âIâm so happy for you guys!â
Sirius was beaming proudly down at Remus, who couldnât shake the sense of guilt that had settled in the pit of his stomach. The artist looked up at his boyfriend, trying to keep his face calm.
âYou didnât have anything to do with this, did you?â
Sirius raised an eyebrow at Remus.
âWould it be a problem if I did?â
Remusâ stomach churned and he felt a lump forming in the back of his throat.
âSiriusâŚâ He began quietly, trying to keep his voice steady. âI donât want you doing things for me just because weâre⌠you knowâŚâ
âRemus,â Sirius responded, loud enough for the entire table to hear. âYouâre showing in my gallery. For the duration of this exhibition, I am representing you. You are one of my artists. When Dorcas and Marlene approached me and asked if I knew of any artists who fit their criteria, I recommended both you and Lily, because I felt that you were best suited for the job.â
âSo⌠it wasnât because of⌠anything else?â Remus asked, fiddling with the napkin that had been placed in his lap by a server.
âI did my job as your gallerist, Remus. Itâs mutually beneficial. When you succeed in the art world, so do I. I would have done the same for any artist who I represent.â
Siriusâ statement gave Remus pause for a moment.
âHow many artists do you represent?â He asked cautiously. It wasnât a question he had thought to ask before.
Sirius responded with a shrug.
âFive or six. Why do you ask?â
âI just⌠it never crossed my mind that there were other artists. I just⌠didnât think of thatâŚâ
Sirius let out a deep chuckle and reached for the bowl of bread in the center of the table. He casually took a bite out of a piece of focaccia before grinning at his boyfriend.
âYou know, I wouldnât be a very good gallery owner if I only ever showed two artists, Remus.â
He made a valid point. Remus glanced down at the empty plate in front of him. There was still so much he didnât know about his boyfriend and the gallery business.
âSpeaking of whichâŚâ Lilyâs voice carried across the table, catching Remusâ attention. He looked up at his friend, who had her eyebrows raised. When Remus didnât respond, she continued. âDorcas had asked Remus and I if you were representing us, Sirius. Of course, I know that Iâm signed on with you indefinitely, but as far as I know, Remus is only working with Black and White until the end of this show, right?â
âThatâs true,â Sirius remarked, raising a brow. He turned to Remus, an expectant smile on his face. âWhat do you say, Remus? Interested in coming on as a permanent artist with us?â
Remus hesitated for a moment, remembering their conversation from the previous evening and the card that was slipped into his jacket pocket. He hadnât mentioned his exchange with Caradoc to anyone yet. He also distinctly remembered one of Siriusâ ground rules explicitly stated that they would not let their personal lives get in the way of professional decisions.
âWell,â Remus admitted guiltily. âI was approached by someone at the show yesterday⌠He mentioned that his gallery would be interested in displaying some of my work, and I know Black and White requires exclusive riââ
Remus cut himself off when he noticed the colour drain from every single face at the table. He kept his mouth shut for a moment, waiting for somebody to explain what he had done wrong, before three voices suddenly started shouting at him at once.
"Someone approached you at the show, Remâ"
"-- plan to sign on with another gallery?"
"--was their name? Was it Naâ "
"--can't possibly think they're better than Siâ "
"--fter everything we've been through you stiâ"
"--bably another Black from the sounds ofâ"
"Stop!"
Remus thumped his fist on the table, directing everyone's attention towards himself. He glared firmly at his group of friends, making sure to make eye contact with each of them.
"For Christ's sake, I can't understand you when you all talk at once! One at a time! Jesus!" Remus turned to his left and looked at Lily. "You first."
Lily looked taken-aback. She blinked in surprise before gathering herself and starting.
"As one of Sirius' artists, I can honestly say, I don't think you'll find better representation in the city. I really mean that, RemusâŚ"
Remus nodded at his friend.
"Understood. James? What were you saying?" Remus turned to look expectantly at the man across the table from him.
"Oh⌠uh⌠just thatâŚ" In all the time that Remus had known the man, he had never seen James at a loss for words before. "Who was it who approached you? Because if it was another member of the Black familyâ"
"His name was Caradoc Dearborn."
James furrowed his brow in confusion.
"Who's that?"
"Tall, dark and handsome? He has blonde hair? Anyway, this is his card."
Remus pulled the card out of his pants pocket and handed it to James, who was studying it so hard, he seemed to be trying to memorize it.
"You⌠brought it with you?"
Remus heard Sirius' voice to the right of him, but refused to look at the gallery owner. Why did he feel so guilty? Wasn't this something that he and Sirius had discussed?
Remus shrugged, trying to pretend he couldn't hear the hurt in Sirius' voice.
"I figured it would be easier to ask about him if I had the card with me," Remus lied. The artist was never particularly good at lying, but he was afraid the truth would make Sirius feel worse; Remus had brought the card with him because he was considering checking out the other gallery that day, just to see what it was like.
"...Do I get to voice my objections now?"
Remus closed his eyes and took a deep breath before opening them and turning to Sirius.
"Yes. Go ahead, Sirius."
"After everything that's happened⌠after these past few weeks, you accept the business card of a stranger at the gallery show that I put on for you?"
Sirius' eyes were clouded with anger, but Remus could tell that he was trying to keep it at bay.
"I didn't accept his card. He put it into my pocket. I just⌠I figured there was no harm in bringing it up with you guys." Remus glanced around the table at the faces of his friends. "Clearly I was wrong."
Remus watched as Sirius' face darkened, his jaw hardening. He noticed Sirius tilt his chin up, the thin line of his mouth tightening. Remus knew what was coming before the words even left the gallery owner's mouth.
"If you want to switch to another gallery, go ahead." Sirius said, a tinge of malice in his voice. "It's fine by me."
Remus rolled his eyes and let out a sigh.
"That's not what I said, Sirius, and you know it." The artist was beginning to tire of Sirius' games and the way he resorted to juvenile passive aggression. On the bright side, at least Sirius' behaviour was predictable.
"You're sitting here, the day after your opening night, with someone else's business card in our hand," Sirius growled, his fists tightening. "Is there another way that I should be interpreting this?"
"SiriusâŚ" James began in a warning voice, but he was met with a glare from the gallery owner.
"Fuck off, James," he spat, before turning on Remus again. "I can't believe this, Remus. I thought you were better than that."
Remus straightened his posture and steeled his expression.
"Sirius, you said not to make any business decisions based on personal feelings. But more importantly, I haven't done anything yet. I told you about someone who gave me a card. Stop being a jealous prick."
Sirius was about to retort when the waiter came by to take their orders. Sirius closed his mouth and glued a fake smile to his face while he told the server what kind of steak he would like. Remus hated the way Sirius could turn his charm on and off; not only was it frustrating, but it made reading his boyfriend nearly impossible at times.
After the table had ordered their food and wine was poured, the conversation recommenced, albeit in hushed voices.
"Sirius," Lily chimed in after James and Sirius had a whispered row. "I think Remus just wanted to be open and honest with you, letting you know exactly what happened. You shouldn't fault him for that."
Sirius turned on Lily.
"Really? Is that why he brought up the fact that business decisions were separate from personal matters?"
"Stop it, Sirius!" Remus' voice was louder than he intended, but the desired effect was achieved. All three friends looked at the artist with mild surprise. "You said you would work on handling things more maturely! You're acting like a spoiled brat, Sirius. This is a terrible way to start a relationship."
Sirius' face went through several changes upon hearing Remus' words. He looked shocked, upset, dismayed, until he finally settled on a dejected pout. Remus felt a slight twinge of remorse for being so careless with his phrasing, but he knew Sirius needed to hear it.
The food arrived just in time to help ease the tension, but conversation was few and far between as the four friends sat and ate their meals. By the time everyone was finished, the heaviness that hung in the air was stifling, the tension palpable.
All four of them filed into James' car in silence, and Remus and Sirius faced opposite windows in the back seat, purposefully keeping their knees from touching. The ride back to Black and White was the most uncomfortable car ride that Remus had ever endured.

starving artist | shota aizawa x reader
hello!! this is chapter three of âstarving artistâ and i really hope you guys are enjoying it :) ive really loved writing it! i update primarily to wattpad (@/vangoghpoets) but i update here as well! also, donât be afriad to reach out with requests <3Â
You basically passed out the moment you arrived home, exhausted from your week. The following morning you forced yourself to wake up early and begin the sketch and underpainting of the first canvas for the first-year dorm common area. You're usually a scrambled mess when it comes to your artwork, but you wanted to try being organized for once.
Looking down at the half-finished brown underpainting, you sighed in frustration. Your fingers ached, not having done such a large amount of sketching in a long time. You grabbed your sketchbook for reference, noticing the numbers scribbled down in the corner.
"Aizawa..." you mumbled to yourself. A blush crept up your cheek
you: hi aizawa, i hope you got some rest! this is y/n btw :)
You didn't expect a reply right away, yet your phone chimed in mere minutes.
aizawa: i didn't expect you to be an early bird y/n. and yes i got some rest, thank you.
You giggled at his punctuation, even over text he seemed so serious. You left your art easel and went to sit down on your couch.
you: ive just begun my underpainting so i have a lot of work today
aizawa: whats an underpainting? i thought it was called a canvas
You laughed to yourself, curling up on your couch.
you: no no, an underpainting is first layer of paint applied to canvas, its a base for future layers of paint
aizawa: I had no idea painting was so intricate. i just figured you were either talented or not.
you: it's just like being a hero, you'll never be good if you don't put your all in it. And you want to do great, no matter how difficult it is.
aizawa: i'm guessing you're pretty tired then.
you: incredibly tired.
It was true, you were utterly drained from jumping back and forth from teaching to painting. It felt like you hadn't had a single moment to yourself since you started at UA. Your phone chimed again.
aizawa: do you want me to bring you a coffee? it's the least i can do since you picked all those leaves out of my hair and because i fell asleep on you.
You blinked at the text, surprised at the offer. You had a tiny crush on Aizawa that you were constantly pushing down. Maybe this could be an opportunity to prove yourself that you could get over your mushy feelings for him. You typed back quickly.
you: coffee sounds amazing actually! are you sure you don't mind?
aizawa: not at all.
You gave him your address and tried to bury the giddy feelings swelling up inside you. In an attempt to distract yourself from his impending arrival, you went back to your easel and continued your underpainting. You put your entire focus on completing the underpainting, working with both speed and detail. You were adding shading to the canvas figures when the doorbell rang. You shot up from your concentrated position and wiped your face flustered, forgetting about the orange paint that covered your fingertips.
You walked over and opened the door, smiling to see Aizawa out of his work attire. He wore a simple black sweater that looked a little too big on him, accompanied by black jeans and what appeared to be Doc Marten boots.
"Hello!" You smiled at him, letting him enter your home.
He smiled softly, holding the coffee cups in his hands.
"Hello, y/n. You have paint on your face by the way."
Your eyes widened in horror at his words. You began to laugh nervously as you hurried to the bathroom, Aizawa left standing in your living room and looking around. You scrubbed your face quickly, mentally scolding yourself for the careless move. You swiftly fixed your hair and walked back out to meet Aizawa.
He turned to you and handed you your coffee. "I hope you like vanilla, it was just a guess."
You grinned, taking the warm cup in your hands and taking a whiff of the sweet steam peeking out.
"It's perfect, thank you."
Aizawa nodded, looking around your living room. He looked odd standing in all black in your colorful home. From the rug to the furniture to the dinnerware, your home was eccentric, to say the least. Whether it was a souvenir from your travels or trinkets of a local artist, everything had its place. Aizawa looked like a goth at a child's birthday party in your home.
He took a sip from his coffee and gestured to a painting on the wall. It was an old painting of a village, filled with rustic colors and gentle strokes. You smiled softly at the feelings of home that surged over you.
"No, my grandmother made it. I inherited her quirk actually. It's a painting of the village we grew up in."
Aizawa turned to you and tilted his head, "Village?"
You chuckled and nodded. "Yeah, my family is from a poor island in the Caribbean. My parents moved us to America so we could have a better life. We as in my sister and me." You smiled to yourself, picturing your family back home.
"So why are you in Japan now?"
"I'd always save up money from my art shows to come here. Everything is just so beautiful and I'm a sucker for a good still life. I just figured I could save myself the money and move here."
Aizawa nodded, slightly confused at your art terminology.
"Can I see one of your paintings? Or your underpainting thing?"
You giggled and nodded, leading him into your mini art studio. The room had an easel and stacks upon stacks of prepped paper and canvases. Jars filled with brushes, charcoal, Indian ink, and pencils lined the shelves. A bucket sat on a small table, filled to the brim with acrylic paints. Another box filled with oil, one filled with gauche, and the last one filled with watercolor palettes.
"It's kind of a mess, sorry," you mumbled under your breath as he walked inside. Aizawa looked around entranced. Several finished and partly finished paintings hung from clips on a string, drying or waiting to be sold. He faced your easel and scrunched his nose in confusion.
"Why is it all one color?" He pointed to the orange underpainting.
"Underpaintings are monochromatic," you answered matter-of-factly. "It gives the painting more depth."
Aizawa nodded, his mouth forming a small 'o' shape in understanding. There was a moment of silence as Aizawa continued to look around in awe.
"This is really incredible, y/n," He said softly. You felt the heat take over your face, making you panic rather than take the compliment. "Who's your inspiration?"
You blinked, still flustered from your tomato red blush, "Huh?"
Aizawa stepped towards you, tossing the empty coffee cup in the trash.
"Who inspired you? Like, every young hero is inspired by a pro. Who's your pro?"
You smiled softly, "My grandmother, I mean she gave me this great quirk. Its nothing a hero could really use, but its been good to me so far. But as for a professional artist, I'd have to say, Matisse."
He tilted his head, clearly not knowing who he was. You chuckled, "He's a French painter." Aizawa nodded once again.
"I've been to France before, Paris specifically. It was for a pro hero conference but still."
Your eyes widened, "Of all the places in Europe I've traveled to, I've never been to Paris. It's basically my dying wish to go to the Louvre."
"I didn't get to do much tourism when I was there, I'd like to go back someday."
You smiled at Aizawa, he didn't strike you as someone who'd enjoy traveling or tourism, but you could still imagine him in a cheesy Hawaiian shirt and a camera strapped around him. The image in your head made you giggle softly. He eyed you and looked down at your hands.
"I heard about your quirk but I've never seen you use it."
"I could say the same for you," I said lying. Of course, you'd seen clips of him and his quirk on the news, but never really in front of you.
He rolled his eyes, "Show me."
You tried to hide your flustered blush that emerged from his sudden seriousness. You grabbed a paper from the stack and gently placed your whole palm on it.
"What's your favorite color?"
He looked down at himself and his black attire and back up at you.
"Yellow actually."
You nodded, remembering his yellow goggles and sleeping bag. Once you pulled your hand away, the paper had a mustard yellow imprint of your palm. You showed him your hand, the paint disappearing back into your skin.
Aizawa raised his eyebrows impressed, "You managed to match the color to my sleeping bag."
You grinned; proud he had noticed, "I'm pretty good at shade matching." He gently took the paper with your handprint.
"You have small hands." He looked up at your hands and lifted his up for comparison. You lifted your hand up and placed it on his. He was right, your hand was small compared to his. You stared at his hand on yours, not wanting to pull away. His palms were calloused, most likely from hero work. You gave him a sly smile. Aizawa furrowed his brows in confusion, "What?" He pulled his hand away, only to see an imprint of paint of your palm on his in your favorite color. "Hey!" He grumbled and pulled his hand away from you grumpily.
"Now you know my favorite color," you giggled. He sent a glare in your direction, swiftly running his hand across your cheek, covering you in the paint. You gasped, "Aizawa!"
He burst out laughing at the smear of paint on your cheek. It was the first time you truly saw him laugh and it caught you off guard. You narrowed your eyes at him, your hands prepping the paint.
"Oh, you are so dead Aizawa."
He gave you a smirk, "Oh really?"
You shot bright neon shades of paint from your fingertips, splatter painting his black sweater. His eyes widened.
"Yes, really." You answered, returning the smirk.
He stared at you and before you could realize, he had used his quirk to erase yours. Swiftly he wrapped his arms around you, like a tight hug, and covered you in the fluorescent paint. You gasped trying to break free. "Aizawa I can't believe you!" You couldn't help but laugh at seeing his body wrapped around yours, the usual dark figure covered in bright hues. He chuckled and slowly let go of you. As much as you hated being covered in paint, you missed his arms around you.
"You know you can call me Shota, right?"
You blushed, thankful for the paint on your cheeks covering it up.
"Okay, Shota." Â

Short Reviews, when the Big Mouth doesnât have much to say⌠Or is trying to get caught up from COVID / Election Overload

An Occasional Attempt to Read, Discuss and Review the Wonders of Comics
By: John Rafferty, cranky old man, and Fan of All Things Comics
Short TakesÂ
Short Reviews, when the Big Mouth doesnât have much to say⌠Or is trying to get caught up from COVID / Election Overload
Legion of Super Heroes 6-10Â (DC Comics)
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis  Pencils: Ryan Sook (#6 - 7, 10) Various (8 - 9)  Inker: Wade Von Grawbadger (#6 - 7, 10) Various (8 - 9)
âYou want to be called Bouncing Boy?
Looking at the Memexes, we were considering âThe Bulletâ.
Bullet?
Itâs a projectile thatââ
No, with me, itâs all about the BOUNCE.
âââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââ
Can Brian Bendis write everything?
Between story, and downright FUN, this is a great book. Team books are hard to do well, if for no other reason, because of the characterizations.Â
Multiple characters mean multiple personalities, and some of those will always get underdeveloped in relationship to the team, as the writer invariably has favorites UnlessâŚ
What we are seeing with LSH is development of characters from across the spectrum. Every book has development of some of the characters, even if theyâre not directly involved in the story. This is a far cry from what you see in other books.
Add to this Ryan Sookâs breakdowns, and Wade von Grawbadgerâs inks, and you get a pretty package, all tied up in a big bow. More importantly, this is a story with a legacy reaching back 60 years, and is being truly refreshed for a new audience.
This isnât the Legion I read in 1967, but itâs damned good!Â

Suicide Squad #9 - 10Â (DC Comics)
Writer: Tom Taylor Artist: Bruno Redondo
I have Kordâs location.
Okay. Do you also have the Senator?
Oh, did you want him back for some reason? That spineless mouth-breather championed a law to dump more waste into the sea. Delusional, greedy @#$% thinks he owns the world.
I have some friends reminding him he does not.
âââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââ
Floyd Lawton, first appearance, Batman #59, June 1950, as the man who never misses.
Floyd Lawton, a man who feels no rereason to continue living, but has no wish to die: who puts his life on the line to save his teammates time and time again, to save his daughter and her mother, all with the wish of dying in a truly spectacular fashion.
Floyd Lawton, who finally finds a reason to live, in the eyes of his daughter, Zoe.
Floyd Lawton. Deadshot. Perennial member of Task Force X, finally earned his pardon.
Game Over.
By all thatâs Unholy, Tom Taylor is a hateful SOB! But the man writes a great story!

Marvel Zombies Resurrection # 1 - 4Â (Marvel Comics)
Writer: Phillip Kennedy Johnson  Artist: Leonard Kirk
âFine. I guess we came all this way.Â
Might as well do something really stupid.
âââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââ
This sums up exploring the World, any world, during a Zombie Apocalypse. Especially when those with Super Powers have been turned into Super Zombies.
So, we pick up with Peter Parker, Forge, Karla Sofen (Moonstone), Valeria and Franklin Richards, a Flerkin named Chewie, and the reprogrammed Sentinel lovingly called âNanaâ, moving from defendable place to defensible area, seeking a âsafe placeâ. Somewhere they can rest for more than one night⌠if that is possible.
Always realizing the next tree could be hiding a zombified Avenger, or Defender, or Loved oneâŚ
Johnsonâs Miniseries is another version of the Marvel Zombiepocalypse, which begs the question, what happens when Zombie Galactus infects your world? Or, more importantly, when it CARRIES the infection to your world?
Leonard Kirkâs art style is perfect for this story, a very dark, visceral style which is a little hard on the eyes, making the reader work for every panel. Yes, it hurts to read, but IT SHOULD! Itâs Zombies!
This is worth the read if you can get all 4 issues (the first issue came out in July).

Rorschach #1Â (DC Black Label)
Writer: Tom King  Artist: Jorge Fornes
âThey wonât talk to me. Treating me like Iâm a damn Kindergarten kid. I got twins in Kindergarten. Duane and Dwight. Iâm not a Kindergarten kid.Â
Jesus Christ. Whatâd they say to you?
That youâre dying.
Shit.

In 1985, Walter Kovacs died.Â
It went unnoticed, but for the few in attendance, for Kovacs died following the Alien Invasion of New York, which, in effect saved the world.
Yet, unnoticed, but for the few, Walter Kovacs became a red splash on the Antarctic permafrost.
And Rorschach, the Crime Hunter, died with him.
Or. did he?
In a world existing somewhere between Watchmen 1985 and Current Multiverses, Tom King and begun a noir-ish tale⌠Did Rorschsch come back, to foil an assassination attempt, and die in the process?
Did he come back, and fail at an attempt at assassination?
Or, Gentle Readers, is there a whole slew of balls in the air we just havenât seen yet, that we are going to be expected to juggle deftly, as they drop just into sight?
I canât wait for the answer!

Justice League #54 - 57Â (Death Metal Tie-In) (DC Comics)
Writer: Joshua Williamson  Artists: Xermanico (54, 57), Pencils: Robson Rocha (55 - 56), Inks: Daniel Henriquez (55 - 56)
âDonât you get it Cyborg? Weâre not the Justice League!
Weâre the Suicide Squad!
âââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââ
I have said before I am not a fan of Joshua Williamsonâs writing.
Maybe I just donât like him on the Flash.Â
Four issues, each of them a very good story, each building, with some action and humor, to a smash mouth endpoint, that brings us to Death Metal #5.
I have to say, Iâm enjoying this run of Justice League, even with the switch of artist teams mid - tale Xermanicoâs work os beautiful, right into the valley of the Starros (that gave me giggle fits!) Rocha and Henriquezâs work is very pretty, and a little darker than Xermanicoâs, giving a more atmospheric touch to the Antenna of LOD.
I have to admit, they do a mean Kori, as well! Really FIERCE, with a Full Length mohawk!
Well worth the cost of admission, and a strong addition to the Metal storyline.

Nightwing #75 - 76 (DC Comics)
Writer: Dan Jurgens  Artists: Travis Moore and Ronan Cliquet (75), Ronan Cliquet (76)
âWe have to talk.â
âââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââ
Four words.Â
Four words that have ended more relationships than violence.
Dan Jurgens has done a masterful job of tying up the Ric Grayson / Amnesias storyline that seems to have run for nigh on ever⌠by bringing it full circle to Anatoli Knyazev, the KGBeast.
The artwork in these two issues was pretty, with obvious switches between that of Travis Moore (the Titans / Batgirl pages) and Ronan Cliquetâs Batman / KGBeast pages.
Nicely tied up, completing multiple storylines in two issues. Ready to move forward/

Young Justice #19 - 20 (DC Comics)
Writers: Brian Michael Bendis and David Walker  Artist: Scott Godlewski
Red Tomato?
I think he said Tornado, and you know it.
Honestly, he talks so fast, I canât understand him most of the time.
âââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââ
Damian Wayne, Robin. Cassie Sandmark, Wonder Girl. Bart Allen, Impulse. Conner Kent, Superboy. Stephanie Brown, Spoiler. Keli Quintela, Teen Lantern. Zan and Jayna. the Wonder Twins. Jinny Hex, Naomi, Amethyst,
Twenty issues in, and the book is cancelled⌠or is planned to end. Either way, this is a suck way to do things, DC.
This is a great group of characters. Much better than the roster in the Young Justice cartoon, simply for the diversity. Some heroes just coming into their own, some who have existed for years, (the Wonder Twins have been around in MULTIPLE iterations since the 1970âs), all helping each other⌠This was a great jumping in book for pre-teens who werenât up for all the violence / hyperkinetic action / storytelling of a true adult book.
And, it was FUN!
Bendis, Walker and Godlewski produced a fantastic product every month.
One which is ending too soon. Unless, of course, it is going to come back in a new packageâŚÂ

Amazing Spider-Man 50 - 53 âLast Remainsâ (Marvel Comics (duh!))
Writer: Nick Spencer  Artist: Patrick Gleason
âYouâre going to love it, Pete. Thereâs no better feeling in this life â Than being surrounded by those you love.
âââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââ
So, what are the rules around DEAD Characters returning?
Do they have to be relevant after so many years? Shouldnât they be, well, driven to do something? Not take more than 50 issues to finally get around to sayingâŚâBazinga!â, or itâs equivalent?
I must admit, issue 50 is the first issue of a Spider-Man book I picked up, and started to enjoy, until I realized I needed to pick up the LR issues also in order to get the whole story. Didnâtât we get enough of this in the Shooter Years?Â
What about a year and a half ago, when Marvel vowed they would never pull this crap again??Â
I guess they forgot⌠(Insert comparison to jackass in office here).
Too much work, donât really care.
Especially when the reveal of who Kindred is happens in issue 50, and Peter finds out in #53⌠Puh-Leez!
At least itâs not Professor Warren and his Gwen Stacy clone. **BRRRRR** Freakinâ Creepy Old Perv!

Batman 101 - 102 (DC Comics (bigger DUH!))
Writer: James Tynion IV  Artist: Guillen March (101) Pencils: Carlo Pagulayan  Inks: Danny Miki  Artist: Carlos DâAnda (Pages 13 - 16)
âDOUBLE RENT! And you donât talk to the other tenants! They are good people.
Little Santa Prisca is a community. We live through BANE. We live through JOKER. Donât blow it up with all your nonsense!
You got it Charlie, No Nonsense. Not Here.
Hey! Whatâs your policy on Hyenas?
âââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââ
So, Lucius Fox is one of the richest men in the world.Â
Selina Kyle has put the Bat on a One Year Clock to get his stuff together, or she walks.
Clownkiller might be the Bernard Goetz of Superhero Vigilantism (look up the reference, I canât do everything!), but he goes about proving you canât keep a good vigilante killer down if he has Google.
Ghost Maker is more than we thought, and knows who Bruce Wayne keeps in the closet (or cave).
Is there anyone in Gotham who doesnât know who Bruce Wayne is?
Tynion continues to pump out some great product, the stories and characters do not disappoint. Including Grifter as Foxâs âbodyguardâ was a nice touch, having him get the drop on Batman, a nicer one.
The art in both books, while vastly different, is simply gorgeous. I want to see more od the team of Pagulayan and Miki, Iâm hoping to see their work grow with the storylines.
Next issue, BATTLE Sequences! Should be fun, not that it hasnât been so far.

Shang Chi #1 - 2 (Marvel Comics)
âI have to save my Little Sister!
I have to kill my Big Brother!â
âââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââ
Only meetings should have agendas.
-Me, just now
Once upon a time, Sax Rohmer wrote stories about the machinations of one Fu Manchu, and his oft overturned attempts to take over the world.
In 1973, Steve Engelhart and Jim Starlin brought Shang Chi, son of Fu Manchu into the Marvel Universe, where he and his MI-6 partners Clive Reston and Black Jack Tarr were responsible for being the monkey wrenches in the machinery of Fu Manchuâs Plans.
It seems that Shang Chi is back, without his prior father. He is still proficient in all forms of martial arts, but now, he is âChampion of House of the Deadly Handâ (like that name isnât going to come to but him in the butt like a Karmic werewolf), and since the passing of his âFatherâ, now the Commander of the Five Weapons Society.
The artwork is pretty, and the story, steeped in Asian Mysticism, is a little draggy so far. Is the story good? Yeah, itâs a nice reminder of a character I exjyed a long tome ago.
Will it get better? Time will tell.

The Rise of Ultraman #1 - 3 (Marvel Comics, by way of Tsuburaya Productions)
Writers: Kyle Higgins and Matt Groom  Artist: Francesco Manna
Oh. Youâre here to fight because you think weâre one of the species that canât evolve.
No. I know you cannot evolve.
Fifty-Four of your years ago, my brother came to assist you. And you killed him.
âââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââ
In the late 60âs, on certain New York television stations, the Saturday Afternoon hours were filled with Japanese imports, Kaiju - United Science Patrol, and of course the story of the death of Moroboshi, and the coming of Ultraman.
Ultraman, a human - alien symbiosis, who fought the Kaiju menace coming to take over the Earth.
Forward to 2020, a new Ultraman, with a new team of USP helpers / friends, and what looks at this point to be a corrupt system surrounding them.
This creative team has done a marvelous job with the material thus far, reviving this character for a modern reader.
Itâs just a shame itâs only 5 issuesâŚ
It is definitely worth the read.

American Vampire 1976 #1 - 2 (DC Comics)
Writer: Scott Snyder  Artist: Artist: Rafael Albuquerque
âDAMMIT! Before what happened with Gus, you were the best vampire tracker and killer around. Iâm asking you to help me take down whoever this PEELING MAN is.
But if this shitty music and LASERS is your life now, then just say so, and Iâll leave you to it.
Itâs not a laser, you goddamned idiot.
Itâs a SOLAR LAMP. **klik**
âââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââ
Ten years ago, Scott Snyder, Rafael Albuquerque and Stephen King started a journey which has spanned 10 Years in real time, but 200 years, and 12 separate cycles in series time.
The current iteration has our favorite group of vamps and exterminators running around 1976, wrecking discos, trains, and graveyards, all in the name of bringing back Stokerâs primary villain.
Snyder proves again he is up to the task of creating a world of whimsy and horror, providing mayhem, madness, and the occasional snorting giggle. His droll wit, and ability to write a phenomenal action piece makes this cycle of the American Vampire story a must read.

Alrighty, Nonsters. We currently have 290 Asks in our box! As much as we might try, I know there is NO WAY weâre going to be able to get through all of them. Everything exploded this weekend when MessyGate went down!  I donât want to ignore any asks just because I already answered a similar one. So, Iâve tried to gather as many similar Asks as possible to let your your voices be heard. Yâall are definitely NOT alone in your feelings. Get ready for a lot of opinions on Messyâs Twitter Drama. Â
Also, if you sent in an Ask and we havenât answered it yet, please feel free to resubmit it! I do try to scroll through all of them but it is a daunting task and personal stuff and work make it difficult for me to get through everything in a timely manner!
********************************
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: Iâm really disappointed in Luke and this band in general, the way they deal with things. âhonest policyâ with messy? So he knew all of this and it was okay? Or he confronted her on this and he is okay with what she has done? Iâm not sure this whole thing would be a deal breaker for me, but it certainly would make me real mad at my SO and some whiny excuses wouldnât be enough to make things alright. Radio silence wouldâve been much better than that story he posted, made himself look like a fool.
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: These girls will sooner or later become their downfall if their management or them does not realise they should rely on other things than bringing relationship up front to sell their music. I find it extremely bad that they are behaving as if nothing happened, I hope there will be changes once touring will be possible again and we wonât see these girls tagging along everywhere or being brought up in interviews all the time but somehow Iâm not counting too much on that.
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: I wonder if Luke knows everything that Messy got exposed for or just the parts Messy wanted to show him. Bc Luke said in his Story that he wasn't online lately so maybe he wasn't on Twitter too and Messy just showed him the parts that make her look good and he still doesn't know that she spoke bad about Ashton or how she stalked the fans also after she knew that they didn't hack his email adress cause he wasn't on Twitter so he couldn't see the screenshots.đ¤ˇââď¸
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: I'm just waiting for the day one of them date someone who isn't a part of their circle. tired of them passing around the same toxic girls.
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: These girls are just digging a whole for these guys and they want be able to get out of it soon
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: It was a chicken move for Sierra to do it as a reply and no one has talked on twitter that she deleted it because they probably think her deleting it is saying it wasnât true
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: Am I the only one who thinks that guys really only heavily interact with us when they want to promote something or say something about the music? I do understand they have lives so being on Twitter isn't number one priority and with all the drama that surrounds this fandom its very easy to not want to be online a lot, I just can't help but feel that way
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: I'm talking about this messy situation (no pun intended) with my friend and she said to me that Messy should consider changing her career if she can't handle that not all people are going to like her. (that ofc doesn't include any form of harassment bc that's not cool)
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: I really don't know how to feel about the Luke situation. At first I was upset and disappointed of Luke but now I almost pity him bc real or not either the management would want Luke to defend her or Messy. And I think Luke isn't the kind of person who would stand up against the management or Messy (even though it would probably be better for him if he would). And most people don't realise when they're in a toxic relationship so I can't really blame him. I just hope this ends asap.
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: I literally was so angry and frustrated with Luke and this whole situation yesterday that I couldnât even look at him on my home screen, I had to change it. Itâs really a disappointing thing to witness. Whether management put him up to this or he genuinely believes this toxicity is okay, Iâm just very grumpy with him at the moment. He deserves better and WE (the fans) deserve better.
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: I think Luke really needs to be in a relationship with sb who either isn't famous and doesn't want to be or with someone who is famous bc they have a successful career too and who doesn't need Like to be famous.
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: Iâve only seen a few accounts on Twitter who are attacking Messy and Crusty to the core and exposing every bad thing theyâve done with receipts for the sossies defending them! Iâm happy that karma is finally getting to those con artist who think they can get away with anything
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: that recent lierra picture is photoshoped lmao. if you look at Sierra's hand you can see color coming off from it and her arm looks hella weird.her forehead looks hella weird and look couldn't have taken the picture because I doubt that he could stretch his arm that far and make a perfect picture. also we haven't even seen Sierra's face so I still don't believe they're together
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: The Lemon pic was like a punch in the face (even though Petunia and Luke are looking cute there). But I've been asking myself lately if Luke has seen the whole drama going around on Twitter or just the posts Messy wanted him to know so the ones who make her look like the victim (and not the ones where she insulted Ashton or she made it clear that she stalked his fans). Cause Luke said he hasn't been online lately.
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: I mean we dont know how much of the story he truly is aware of and how much s changed to fit her narrative and get L to feel bad for her. Plus he was under pressure from management to do damage control and not standing up for his gf is a very bad look for outsiders who dont understand why she's at fault. It was a pretty neutral statement and he was obviously told to make the post so I dont blame him and just blame her more for putting him in the situation in the 1st place
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: I wonder how much toxicity happens behind the scenes, we know S is very manipulative and L is very much a people pleaser so.. and with how much they have to sell their "love" and "happiness" in the relationship. Minipulation is a powerful thing and it could explain why hes out of touch with reality, especially lately since he's isolated with her and doesnt have the voices of the band to raise any concerns and he's been getting skinny again and seems very "meh" rather than happy, idk
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: I feel so disconnected with this fandom rn. I feel like no one is streaming CALM and that makes me sad bc it's such an amazing album. The boys aren't even online anymore, everyone is mad at each other and now Luke comes up with this shit... tbh I wish I would wake up tomorrow and see him tweeting something like yeah I'm sorry about my ig story I still love y'all lmao
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: Wait wait wait wait ive been gone from the fandom for a little while now and what the fuck is going on with Luke and S? What did S do that she made a fake ass apology for?? Iâm so lost please help me! đ
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: I'm seeing a lot of my mutuals unstanning and I'm just so mad bc Sierra started this drama and got Luke into it and I'm sad that people are leaving bc of this, it's just too much toxicity and it shouldn't affect the band and their connection with the fans but with Luke saying this he makes it seem like he supports the ugly things she does
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: I am a Luke stan and I've always loved him bc he has inspired me so much through the years but when he does this things it's like...damn. I feel like he's invalidating the fans' feelings by being like "if you don't like my girlfriend, ur fake" like he has never noticed me on Twitter or anything but my biggest fear is to be blocked by him or just ignored bc I don't like her (although I never expressed it publicly) n yeah anyways :// It feels weird
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: Going back and re-reading the DMâs messy literally confirms that she accesses Lukeâs account by saying âwe couldnât get inâ or some shit like that
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: I hate being a luke stan, sometimes it just seems like he doesn't care? he always puts these toxic gfs before the ones who adore him and pay his bills. might just move into Cashton's lane. unproblematic kings.
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: He literally posted a picture of him cuddling her and petunia within the hour
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: The saddest part of this situation is itâs like a repeat of Arzaylea. Luke has no idea what a respectful, mature relationship is. We saw it with Arz and were seeing it again itâs just a little bit different. He stays being controlled and manipulated by toxic partners. I really think homeboy needs to be single for a WHILE and focus on himself. He needs to unlearn the things his past and current relationships have taught him about love because if I know anything, itâs that this ainât real love.
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: Is it bad that I just want the larzaylea drama back?? Like everyone could at least agree on their feelings then...
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: Just checked messyâs insta and of course, everyone that still supports her filled her tagged with just the single picture
Anonymous said to 5sosbitchfest: I feel like the reason Sierra is getting away with what sheâs done is because she isnât that known. Like yeah sheâs associated with 5sos, but theyâre also like not that big which is probably why itâs getting swept under the rug. Iâve only seen the 5SOS fandom calling her out for her actions. If this had happened with a well known celebrity, they probably wouldâve been dragged and been trending on Twitter. I might be wrong but I feel like this is whatâs happening which is just unfair.

How Batman Evolved During Tom King's Run
https://ift.tt/2Pxp0je
Bruce Wayne's adoptive father is the key to Tom King's conclusion to his run on Batman.
facebook
twitter
tumblr
This Batman article contains spoilers.Â
Tom King did the impossible. In a comics industry founded on the bedrock principle that only the appearance of growth should ever be shown, heâs told a massive, three-year, 85-issue story that has Bruce Wayne actually develop as a character.
With Alfredâs death earlier in the final story arc, "City of Bane," many would have expected Bruce to shun his supporting cast and dedicate himself to revenge, leaving Gotham littered with shattered criminals as he pushed his grief through his fists and his enemiesâ faces. But thatâs not what happened.Â
We got a chance to talk with King about character growth, how his epic tale developed, and whatâs next for Batman, Catwoman, and King himself in the DCU.Â
Den of Geek: You talk about Vision, Omega Men, and Sheriff of Babylon being a thematic trilogy, right?
Tom King: Yeah.
Can we look at Mister Miracle, Heroes in Crisis, and Batman the same way?
Oh yeah, 100% yeah. That's what I think of it. Yeah. I'm glad someone noticed.
It's about heroes managing trauma, right?
It is. I call it the Trauma Trilogy. That's just too easy, maybe. I feel like the first story about my war experience and [the main characters of each book] were all someone naively going into a situation and finding it much more complicated than they thought. And then these three were all about, Iâve said this publicly a billion times, about this nervous first-season-of-the-Sopranos breakdown I had in 2016 when I first started on Batman, and sort of how I recovered from that. And I sort of wrote it three different ways. Yeah, it's like some fancy dish, you know. The Trauma Trilogy.
Read More: How Batman Will Change in 2020
So the breakdown in 2016 happened after you had already started on Batman. How far is what ended up on the page drifted from what you initially conceived it to be?
I mean it's pretty close. There's some stuff that didn't quite pan out. Batman isnât like a series like Mister Miracle or our upcoming Strange Adventures that we're doing. You have to write Batman with some degree of compromise because it's a much bigger platform and overlaps a lot of other books. You have a lot more eyes on it in terms of editorial control. And so yeah, it wasn't entirely a straight line, but considering it was 85 issues of DC's best-selling comic, I think it was a lot straighter than I thought it would be in terms of going from one spot to another.
It was always supposed to be about a love story and that was there from day one. I remember talking about that with my first editor, Mark Doyle...being like, âWhat is this book about?â And me literally just searching and searching until I found an old clip of the Batman â66 TV show. It was just like, âOh man, I love this." The Catwoman, Batman dynamic.
And it hadn't been in the books in a long time. Not since, like, Judd Winnick, New 52 stuff. So that part about it, the fact that it was just one big love story. That was the same and Bane was supposed to be the main bad guy. But the stuff with Flashpoint, Batman evolved as we went along. I'd say that's the thing that's evolved the most.
We talked that second arc, I think, about Bane, Catwoman, and Batman being three sides of the same shitty coin. But now with Thomas included in there, it feels like it's kind of four points on a graph, labeling each axis. You've got like Batman who had privilege but lost everything at a young age. You have Thomas on the other end who had everything for most of his life and then lost everything. You've got Catwoman, who was born into nothing and kind of hangs on to everything but keeps it at arms length. And you've got Bane, who kind of grabs whatever he can and crushes it to death. As Thomas evolved into this, does that sound like what you were thinking at all?
Yeah, I do think they all represent this idea of who's top of the mountain in their own way. I guess you could say who does Gotham belong to? Bane sees Gotham as a prize that he has to win. Thomas sees Gotham as a burden. For Catwoman, Gotham is just who she is and she's sort of queen of that city. And then for Batman, it's ... I mean that's what the whole question is. What does he mean to Gotham?Â
With Alfred's death, was it kind of a backdoor way of you taking a look at Bruce's origins? You know, using the death of a father figure to kind of shock him out of being Batman the way that he was shocked into being Batman?
Yeah, but it was also a way to show what the difference is between Bruce losing his parents when he was young and connected to them, and Bruce losing Alfred having been raised by Alfred. To me that was a tribute to sort of Alfred's parentage of Bruce for all these years and him guiding him through that trauma. Because you expect Batman in that moment to bury himself in anger and go insane and do all the things that drove him to be Batman in the first place. But instead of that, he hears Alfred's voice and he composes himself. To me it's sort of about the maturing of the character and maturing of it through the love of Alfred. I know I said this in the book, there are no good deaths. There's a nobility to death if you've treated your children right.
Read More:Â Batman and Catwoman Face Thomas Wayne in Final Tom King Issue
Well, I would quibble with that only because I think you could have killed Batman at any point in the last 85 issues and whatever was happening would have been a hell of a way to go. Right? Like he has a heart attack on a ferris wheel with Superman. That's a pretty okay way to do it.Â
Wait I did kill Batman! I killed him in annual number two.
Oh yeah! Yeah.
I gave him my ideal death. He dies instead as an old man surrounded by his family.
And that's the good death.
That's a good one. That's as best as you can do with no other choices.
After 85, it feels like that's kind of the direction, right? Batman for so long has been that traumatized little boy, to the point where it's almost a parody, and many of your predecessors have done something interesting with that. But it always feels like the traumatized little boy has been the dominant perception of him, at least in my adult life. Is this your way of kind of trying to push him through it?Â
The story of Batman is unending conflict. I'm sure whoever comes after me will embrace the Batman of their own and I bless him for doing it. I know James [Tynion IV, the writer taking over Batman with #86]âs stuff is going to be, from what I've seen, amazing. Batman's not a story that I have the power to end. I just kind of come in and take the reins for a while and then pass it onto someone else as brilliant as James and Tony [Daniel, the artist on the first arc].
But I can sort of, I don't know, tell my story. I donât know, maybe I'm too old to write Batman. Frank was 29 when he wrote The Dark Knight Returns. I'm 41. But it seems like as you get older and you actually see your parents pass, you see your loved ones pass, you realize that everyone has to go through that trauma. Right? You sort of realize that it can become part of you and something you're proud of as well. The grief never leaves you. It never leaves Batman. It's a wonderful metaphor. But also there's a certain joy to that grief because it sort of unites you with your lost ones.
So hopefully, as you go on, you sort of mature into that. I hate to say that the greatest hero America's ever created, which is Batman, never got a chance to mature into it like the rest of us hopefully get to do. Yeah, I mean that's what that's about. He says, when I was a child, I did childish things and now it's time to grow up a little bit.
Read More: Why Tom King Is Leaving Batman
So the action sequences have been phenomenal through the whole thing. There have been some stellar fight sequences, especially Jorge [Fornes'] last ten issues. Every time he comes in it's incredible.
Heâs ridiculous.
They've been phenomenal. When I think back on the run, what I think is going to jump out at me are going to be the quiet moments. The double date, 12 Angry Batmen, Bruce and Selina grabbing a beer and watching football at a bar. What do you think was about those quiet moments that let you make them sing?
I mean, the first thing is the art. All three of those things you mentioned, you've got Lee Weeks...there's not a lot of people who can draw a dynamic room with just 12 people talking. Clay Mann doing the double date. Just him elevating himself and becoming the best artist in comics while I was watching. And then Mikel [Janin]. I've been with Mikel for five years now since Grayson. He did the first Batman I did and heâs doing the last.
It's really hard. I mean, as dumb as it sounds, it's probably easier to draw a dynamic fight scene than a dynamic quiet scene. So those guys are doing the heavy lifting.
As far as the other stuff goes. You know, it's ... DC Fontana died yesterday, right? The Star Trek author, and she's famous for saying, âStar Trek is not about objects. It's about characters.â Like, that's her thing. If you're writing an episode of Star Trek, don't make it about the thing. Make it about the people's relationships. So I think that that's what those moments are about is we've had a lot of conflicts. Fantastic, amazing conflicts about things. But I try to make my conflicts about the characters. Just trying to follow what she told me to do. What she said. Not that I ever met her but I remember what she said to do.
So looking back, is there an issue that stands out in your mind as something that you just absolutely nailed? Like, it's the Batman/Elmer Fudd issue, right?
No, I hate it. [laughs] I love that issue, but there's two typos in it. It still drives me crazy. I'll never manage to get them to fix those. When I first got the comp finished, I threw in the trash I was so pissed. "Oh, I ruined this one. Oh well. I'll try again next time." And then I won awards for it, it was ridiculous.
All three of the annuals I really like. I like the dog story that David Finch and I did in the first annual, which was suggested by my daughter when she was like five.Â
And I liked the second annual, which has sort of the first dates and the beginning of the end of the Catwoman/Batman relationship. That annual's the jumping off point for the whole Batman/Catwoman series. So that's how much I like it, I'm trying to copy it.Â
And I like the fourth annual I did with Jorge, which was just sort of like a chance for me to do a thesis statement on what Batman is. And there was seven days of Batman in seven different genres and then it continued sort of forever. I like those three.
Read More: Why Tom King's Batman #86-106 Would Have Been About
Similarly, is there an issue that you wish you could get another crack at?
Oh man, there's a ton of issues I wish I could ... I mean, I look at the dialogue and Iâm like, "Oh, I could have done that better."Â
It took me a while to learn how to work with Joelle Jones, who's one of the most talented artists out there right now. And I think, I feel like I did a Wonder Woman issue with her and I feel like I wasted two of them first of all, because the story I wrote turned out to be very similar to a story that Joe Kelly had done. I hadn't read the story but I was very...I would have changed it if I had known. I sort of understood how to write for [Joelle] by Batman #44, which I think is really nice, but I think it's 39 and 40, the two Joelle Jones issues, I wish I could have another shot at doing well.
I really liked those.
TK: They're beautiful! They're drawn beautifully, but I don't know, we could have done something...it was really fine, but I feel like it could have transcended. I missed it.
I guess. The Justice League flirting between the two of them in the cartoon is high on my list of preferred pairings. So like the way that you played with that made me happy. Is there a character you feel particular ownership of now? Like if somebody comes in and changes Kite Man, are you going to throw the issue across the room and scream, "Fuck no, that's not how this is supposed to be done."
No, I think that's kind of silly. It's kind of like when you sign up for this gig, that's part of the agreement and coming into comics is realizing that this is a medium that extends to other people and no one has benefited more from that than me, who's twisted the work of Jack Kirby and Marv Wolfman and Bob Kane and Bill Finger for my own benefits. I feel like denying that to others would be hypocritical.Â
Gotham Girl's named after my daughter Claire. Claire Clover is her name. So I do like her. Like I have in my daughter's room a David Finch piece or a page that he did and a page that Clay Mann did they gave to me for her. So I like her because she's named after my daughter.
Wow. That's got to be pretty sweet.
I know. I try to tell her brag, brag to your friends! But does she brag?
Read More: Why Batman Still Matters
She'll get there. As soon as she shows up in a movie, everyone's going to be like, "Oh, you're so cool."Â Would you do it again? Marvel comes to you tomorrow and says, âWe want a hundred issues of Spider-Man. Do whatever the hell you want.â Do you jump at or do you run screaming?
I don't remember anyone ever saying, do whatever you want with Batman.
Well, fair.
It never happened. Would I do it again? I mean I have no regrets about doing it. On many levels, I feel like I'm artistically satisfied with what happened. I feel like I made my career and made my life and I had fun.Â
But it's that second thing you said, the control of it. As I move forward, I kind of want to do, I don't know, like, I want to do super ambitious stuff and it's hard to do super ambitious stuff in that environment.
I feel like I got as close as I could get with [Batman]. I had a brilliant editor in Jamie Rich, huge support from Dan DiDio, but I don't know if I'll ever get that much again. Going forward, we'll see. But I just want to do something, I don't know, big and ambitious and literary and I don't know if that's possible anymore. If it is, I'll go.
You did the Sheriff and Omega Men and Vision Trilogy. You did the Heroes in Crisis Trilogy, or the Trauma Trilogy. Where are we going next?
Yeah, something new. I'm trying to move on. I'm trying to move on from fat middle aged men looking out windows, thinking about their lives. I think it'll be like another trilogy of books. It will be Strange Adventures, [Batman/Catwoman], and another book that hasn't been announced yet.
And all of this will be these 12-issue miniseries, like these little novels and they'll all be focused on a new, bigger theme. The way things develop when you're writing, you can write it one way where you're like, "I'm going to write about this theme," then you go write it. But when I do that, it just turns out shitty.
The best way I think to do it is just to write straight through so your unconscious mind brings it to the surface while you fight doing the same thing over and over again. So I'm not 100 percent sure these things are still forming as they form, but it's going to be a lot about all the shit that's in the news every single day.Â
As much as Mister Miracle was about sort of the trauma of looking around our current environment, thinking, "My God, this can't be real. I feel like I'm trapped here," Strange Adventures will be about how do we fight back this pernicious stuff that seems to surround us. And I think that's what Batman/Catwoman will sort of be about too.
Read More: The Actors Who Have Played Batman
So hopeful.
Hopeful is the wrong word because some of them are dead dark books. I don't feel hopeful right now. But I feel like, I don't know, it feels like we're in the middle of the war and you don't feel hopeful in the middle of the war, but you still feel like you'd have to fight. You know?
Yeah.
It's more about that feeling, not the feeling that, "Oh God, we're going to win." But the feeling of, "Oh God, we can't lose or else."
And Strange Adventures, I've read the first one and it's ... I couldn't love it more. It's 28 pages. Doc [Shaner] and Mitch [Gerads] are doing crazy new stuff you haven't seen in comics before, which I think is cool in terms of mixing the two arts together. The two, I don't know, styles or whatever.
I couldn't be more proud of it. I remember Garth Ennis famously saying that with The Boys, you out-Preacher Preacher. So we're going to try to out-Mister Miracle Mister Miracle, to steal from Garth.

I see you reblogging some comic stuff an I was wondering if you have a favorite comic or favorite character or ship?
this ask is from so long ago but [DEEP BREATH IN] iâm finally going to answer it, nonny. finally. i kept wanting to read a little bit farther in my comics stack because.... maybe iâll like that and will regret not having recced it, i just hafta--get--to it, see? and, honestly, iâm still there BUT, come on, iâll never be caught up because that would mean comics would just have to stop coming out and i would be sad forever if that happened, SO
iâm not even going to pretend like i can narrow this down to one comic. (one ship? sure, thatâs spideypool. one character? sure, thatâs the merc with a mouth, the regenerating degenerate, wade motherfucking wilson. but one comic?!) there is just straight-up too much out there to make a definitive âyes, this is it, this is THE ONE ⢠â statement.  instead, uh, letâs break this shit down, yeah?  (super special secret bonus round, will note all lgbt+ rep and standalone comics.) in no particular order, here the frig it goes!
HORROR
infidel, by pornsak pichetshote and aaron campbell. Â in case you havenât seen this on every 2018 best list ever, here it is. Â and, yeah, it was good. Â a muslim-american main character living in a haunted apartment building where the entities feed off the xenophobia of its occupants. Â if thatâs not a fucking modern horror story i donât know what is.
spread, by justin jordan and kyle strahm. Â THIS IS ONE OF MY NEW AND ALREADY ALL-TIME FAVORITES. Â what an awesomely weird and epic story. Â the spread is an uncontrollable, unstoppable monster-making force that humanity accidentally unleashed by digging too deep. Â it infects everything it touches and basically all of humanity is running from quarantine to quarantine just hoping for the best. Â and speaking of hope.... sheâs a baby, rescued by no, and the only thing thatâs ever been able to stop the spread. Â also, noâs gay? Â and i just DID NOT see that coming. Â it seems like itâs going to be such a formulaic, bro-y story about the action hero who kisses the face off his girl (her nameâs molly and sheâs batshit insane and amazing) and instead, nope, it is not that at all. Â lgbt+ main characters.
the black monday murders, by jonathan hickman and tomm coker. Â hate capitalism? Â think all the rich and powerful are evil, soul-sucking monsters? Â [obnoxious, low-budget commercial sound effects] MAN, HAVE I GOT THE SERIES FOR YOU.
the beauty, by jeremy haun and jason a. hurley. Â i just started this recently but so far, oh my good golly gosh, i looove it. Â a sexually transmitted disease that makes you conventionally gorgeous.... at least before it explodies you. Â [wide, creepy smile] Â the art is gorgeous, the characters are aces and i am very, very pleased so far. Â lgbt+ minor characters.
the great divide, by ben fisher and adam markiewicz. Â this? Â was a COOL idea. Â the execution stumbled a bit but, gosh, was it neat. Â itâs post-apocalyptic where touching another person will literally kill.... one of you. Â the survivor then absorbs the memories of the person who dies, taking on a ârider.â Â some people collect them, some people go mad, some form a bond, all have the side effect of dyslexia. Â like i said, neat as all get out. Â lgbt+ minor-ish/main-ish character. Â standalone.
revival, by tim seely and mike norton. Â a rural town in wisconsin experiences âmiracle day,â where the dead rise again.... except, they were kinda already mourned and buried and this is really just fucking up the status quo.
the woods, by james tynion iv and michael dialynas. Â a high school gets picked up and plopped down in an entirely new, and wickedly hostile universe. Â itâs all survival and alliances and seeing what youâre really made of when it comes down to it. Â lgbt+ main characters.Â
clean room, by gail simone and jon davis-hunt. Â a cult, a journalist and a clean room walk into a bar...
anyaâs ghost, by vera brosgol. Â you think itâll be a cute story of a girl and her ghost. Â HA HA THAT IS NOT WHAT HAPPENS AT ALL, OKAY.
FANTASY
rumble, by john arcudi and james harren. Â SCARECROW WARRIOR GOD, SCARECROW WARRIOR GOD, SCARECROW WARRIOR GOD!!! Â okay, first off, the art in this? Â pushes every frigginâ button iâve got, and many i did not know i had. Â second, this book is so fucking fun. Â itâs mythology thatâs balls to the wall ridiculous, funny, and features a main character whose life motto is basically: âdo i have to?â Â infinitely relatable and then some.
heathen, by natasha alterici and rachel deering. Â UGH, ONE OF MY FAVORITES. Â the art is just horribly, horrendously gorgeous and itâs LESBIAN VIKING MYTHOLOGY, OKAY. Â OKAYYYY??? Â lgbt+ main characters.
the wicked + the divine, by kieron gillen and jamie mckelvie. Â one of my favorite ever series right here. Â itâs a hella cool concept (gods reincarnating as humans every twelve years, and burning up their hosts in two), whip-smart and if youâve ever met a human being who likes a pun more than kieron gillen i defy you to produce them. Â lgbt+ main and minor characters.
batgirl, by gail simone and adrian sayaf and vicente cifuentes. Â you know how people rave about gail simone? Â thereâs a reason people rave about gail simone. Â honestly, iâve never had much interest in babs. Â i donât tend to go for superheroes who donât kill and i have even less interest in âthe killing jokeâ story line and i am convinced only gail simone couldâve done the recovery on that and she did a GLORIOUS job of it.
red hood and the outlaws, by scott lobdell and dexter soy. Â (ignoring recent - and annoying - developments), this is my favorite of all the rebirths dc did. Â scott lobdell is the only writer to have gotten the idea down of: okay, weâre starting over, i assume you donât know anything but i also assume there are a bajillion people reading who know everything, and hit the perfect medium between those two things. Â so if you want to start a jason todd run, you legitimately can here, and get all the found family, badassery, batman-teasing enjoyment there is to be had.
iceman, by sina grace and robert gill (covers by kevin wada). Â classic super-heroing here and bobbyâs first solo title. Â heâs figuring out coming out while fighting (and flirting) with baddies. Â sina really gets his humor and how truly wonder-awful it is! Â lgbt+ main character.
spider-man/deadpool, by joe kelly and ed mcguinness. Â watch those names there, those are your guys right there, period. Â they looked at the void of a spider-man/deadpool series and filled it with absolutely everything you could possibly want for the pair (sans a hardcore make-out sesh, though they did get a few variant covers with some puckered up lips in there!)
limbo, by dan watters and caspar wijngaard. Â a fusion of 80s aesthetics, voodoo elements and a noir tone. Â just some remarkably cool shit in this. Â the ending, for me, left something to be desired but it was more than worth it to see worship via mixtapes. Â standalone.
hawkeye: kate bishop, by kelly thompson and leonardo romero. Â kate bishop is, apparently???, a super impossible character for a lot of writers. Â kelly thompson is not one of them. Â kelly thompson is my favorite kate bishop writer, actually, and the fact that she is ever not writing her is a gd travesty.
the unbeatable squirrel girl, by ryan north and erica henderson. Â honestly, iâm so tempted to just stick this under âcontemporary,â because it really does just feel very... normal. Â doreenâs navigating college, new friendships, and yâknow... the squirrely-ness. Â this had every opportunity to suck and instead itâs funny as heck, never takes itself too seriously, and is just pure good-hearted entertainment through and through.
wolf, by ales kot and matt taylor.  a paranormal detective and the-possible-antichrist go on a road trip. people hated this comic and i donât know how you can hate a comic that has a character called freddy chtonic who has tentacles for a mouth???Â
ms. marvel, by g. willow wilson and adrian alphona.  hi, you read ms. marvel because the world is a garbage fire and people are terrible and your cynicism is at an all time high and then kamala khan waltzes in and reminds you people generally want to help each other and the world improves when we work together and that thing optimists feel?  youâll feel that for as long as youâve got the pages open and thatâs a magical thing. lgbt+ minor character.
monstress, by marjorie m. liu and sana takeda. Â psychic links with monsters, matriarchal societies, magic and witchery, half-human/half-animal (and other ratios) characters, all through a steampunk lens. Â whatâs not to like about that??
inhuman, by charles soule. Â i love this series, i love the idea of being a total average joe/joanne, getting smacked in the face by a cloud of mist and suddenly having to figure out how to live basically a whole new life. Â also, if you donât fall madly in love with dante pertuz, i donât even know what to tell you, my dude.
heart in a box, by kelly thompson and meredith mcclaren.  break-ups suck, but only because of that whole pesky broken heart thing, right?  so emma gives hers away.  problem solved, no?  standalone.
i kill giants, by joe kelly and j.m. ken niimura. Â i didnât cry my eyes out or anything. Â did not. Â standalone.
sex criminals, by matt fraction and chip zdarsky. Â having sex = stopping time, which leads suzie and jon to the only logical conclusion: letâs rob some banks!
hawkeye, by matt fraction and david aja. Â honestly there are a lot of other artist combos in this run but the only ones that are worthwhile are the ones that have fraction and ajaâs names on them - sorry not sorry.
SCIENCE FICTION
black bolt, by saladin ahmed and christian ward. Â saladin revived this character one hundred million percent. Â there is absolutely a reason this was parading around all over âbestâ lists when it was released. Â it really, really did the damn thing.
saga, by brian k. vaughan and fiona staples.  this is the comic you recommend to people who donât even like comics because it is that good. like, my dad - who hadnât read a comic since he was a pre-teen, eagerly awaits each new trade. the world-building, the characters, the care put into every single solitary bit of all the things?  unparalleled.  lgbt+ minor characters.
frostbite, by joshua williamson and jason shawn alexander. Â a post-apocalyptic story that has humanity dying from a plague that literally freezes you from the inside out. Â very neat, very cold, very readable. Â standalone.
descender, by jeff lemire and dustin nguyen. Â this had a rough start, for me, with the main character of the first trade being tim-21, an android who is literally incapable of having the depth to be a lead BUT that does not last through to the next trade, thank god. Â lots of space and found family and world-building in this to be had! Â but you know how people rave about jeff lemire? Â thereâs a reason people rave about jeff lemire.
paper girls, by brian k. vaughan and cliff chiang. Â the 80s and time travel and lifelong friendships. Â itâs brian k. vaughan, you know itâs good, okay? Â why do i even have to sell you here, man? Â lgbt+ main characters.
injection, by warren ellis and declan shalvey. Â this is another one on my list that started out a little rough but really appealed to me later on. Â there was just a lot to absorb in that first trade but, once youâve got it, the ride gets way, way smoother. Â lgbt+ main and minor characters.
black science, by rick remender and matteo scalera.  this was a rocky start, because the main character is such an asshole but in a way where he canât see heâs an asshole, heâs just a tortured genius whoâs superior to all of you, donât you know? but i am so glad i persevered because if thatâs the set up?  the rest of the series is knocking him back down.  super scientist grant mckay finds a way to access the eververse, every possible reality the universe has on offer, and thatâs really what causes every single problem that follows. hard to cause the apocalypse and be an arrogant prick, ya know?
CONTEMPORARY
giant days, by john allison and lissa treiman. Â this series is so funny and smart and warm. Â these girls are so kind to each other and relatable and failing at adulting regularly and often and i love reading about them. Â lgbt+ main character.
lumberjanes, by noelle stevenson and grace ellis and brooke a. allen. Â this is funny and ridiculous and kind and cool and all other awesome adjectives and you should read it, fact. Â lgbt+ main characters.
my brotherâs husband, by gengoroh tagame and anne ishii (translator). Â this is such a sweet story about acceptance and family tbh. Â lgbt+ main character.
fence, by c. s. pacat and johanna the mad. Â i mean... i need to see nicholas and seiji hook-up, i need that, stat. Â stat means now! Â lgbt+ main characters.
WEB/INDEPENDENT COMICS
long exposure, by kam heyward. Â so mitch and jonas are my absolute faves and i love them to death and the author is so kind in that they actually put this up in print on indyplanet so i can read it the way i, personally, love to read comics (and - bonus! - support them with the monies). Â lgbt+ main characters.
modern dread, by pat shand and ryan fassett (editors). Â iâve been trying to find more better horror comics lately so iâve been kind of half-heartedly stumbling through kickstarter on the hunt and this was SUCH a great find. Â itâs an anthology but more cleverly done than any other kickstarter anthology iâve read, with a main story line that seamlessly strings together the would-be-disjointed ones. Â this was really thoughtfully put together and really well done! Â standalone.
heartstopper, by alice oseman. Â a very sweet story about two high school-aged boys becoming fast friends, playing rugby and falling in love. Â the two characters are mentioned as an aside in the authorâs book, solitaire, and she became so invested in them that she wrote their backstory as a free webcomic. Â lgbt+ main characters.
the pale, by jay fabares. Â JUST started this (like, just a day or so ago) but iâm enjoying it so far!
hotblood!, by toril orlesky. Â i mean... is it a webcomic about a centaur falling in love with his boss? Â it just might be. Â did i get a bound edition through a kickstarter campaign? Â maybe. Â maybe i did that. Â whoâs to say? Â lgbt+ main characters.
the bay, by bbz. Â life on mars through the lens of three young professionals who form an odd but lasting friendship. Â lgbt+ main characters.
hard drive, by artroan. Â is it a nsfw comic about a dude and a robot? Â .... it might be a nsfw comic about a dude and a robot. Â [coughs] Â lgbt+ main characters.
seen nothing yet, by tess stone. Â a nsfw comic about two amateur ghost hunters. Â canât imagine why i might be interested in that [coughs] Â lgbt+ main characters.
captain imani and the cosmic chase, by lin darrow and alex assan. Â i mean did i want a starship captain who canât help but lust after the smuggler heâs chasing. Â i mean, maybe i did. Â maybe. Â lgbt+ main characters.
taproot, by keezy young. Â ghost falls in love with boy, boy falls in love with ghost, AND THEY LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER. Â lgbt+ main characters.
always raining here, by bell and hazel. Â just two boys falling in lurve. Â lgbt+ main characters.

Sweeter Than Ice Cream
(Spoilers for those that have not seen Glaciator yet. You have been warned.)
The potential Marichat fluff if the akuma hadnât reared itâs deliciously creamy head. This episode killed me and I needed to write an AU where Chat Noir and Marinette got to stay on the balcony immediately. Enjoy!
Marinette clung tightly onto Chat Noir as he bound them off to some location. It mustn't have been far as he put her down again almost immediately.
After the disaster that was the failed ice cream triple date with her friends Marinette could use some cheering up. She just didnât think it would be coming from Chat of all people. She felt bad hearing that he had feelings for her superhero persona and that he had prepared something for her. She adored Chat Noir as a partner and as a friend but her heart laid somewhere else. She couldnât live with herself if she played with his feelings. Next time she saw him as Ladybug she would be sure to apologize...and tell him the truth.
âJust one small second. All good, you can open your eyes.â Chat instructed.
âWhoa, Chat Noir, itâs really beautiful.â she gazed around the beautiful scene he had set. Roses, warm candlelight, cushions and a little basket hidden in the corner. He had done all this for her? Her reverie was cut short when she noticed him sulking against the railing. âI am so sorry.â
âFor what? Itâs not your fault.â There was definitely a bit of sharp edge to his words.
âIt is! No! Well, I mean. Iâm sorry for you because you prepared all this and she didnât come.â Smooth Marinette. Remember that you arenât Ladybug right now!
âShe warned me, but I still wanted to believe⌠I wanted her to come.â the way he spoke broke her heart in two. He really put a lot of effort into this night and she didnât think twice about it.
âMaybe she had a good reason for not coming? Like⌠she hit a snag.â she leaned on the railing next to him.
âI know youâre saying that to cheer me up.â
âYeah⌠I mean no! WellâŚâ she sighed and laid a hand over top of his, âItâs her loss. You prepared something beautiful and Iâm sure that if she had known you had went to all this trouble she would have come in a heartbeat.â
He looked up finally giving her a small smile. âYouâre very sweet.â he glanced back at the picnic, âWhat do you say we enjoy this dinner then? Itâd be a shame for it all to go to waste.â
âOh...I uhâŚâ
âPlus, itâd be a chance for me to get to know you a little more.â He gestured for her to sit.
âIâd like that.â she sat down on the cushions and watched as Chat laid out a little picnic of a baguette, cheese and crackers, chocolate covered strawberries and a bottle of sparkling lemonade.
âI know itâs not much but I had to get stuff I could just buy at the store.â he shrugged.
âItâs wonderful.â Marinette broke off a piece of the baguette, âYou gonna join me?â
Chat Noir sat down and uncapped the sparkling lemonade filling two glasses and handing one to Marinette. âTo unrequited love.â
âHere, here,â she clinked her glass against his with a chuckle.
âSo, you never really said, whatâs put you in such a dower mood tonight?â he asked.
âWell, a couple of friends and I had this outing planned and things didnât go as expected. I had a bit of an overreaction and ruined the entire evening. They said they understood and I apologized but it still hurts.â She didnât want to bring up Adrien right now.
âIâm sorry to hear that.â Chat swirled his lemonade around in his glass, âLetâs talk about something happier, yeah?â
âYeah. But, what?â
âWell, how about you tell me something about yourself? Like, what music do you like to listen to?â he suggested.
âWell a little this and that, but my favorite artist by far is Jagged Stone.â
âJagged Stone? I love his music! Rock and Rip is my favorite song.â Chatâs eyes lit up with glee. âThat guitar riff that opens it--â
âThat riff brings me new life! Every time I hear it I feel like I could burst through the roof and start flying.â
âIt is great for pumping you up for the day. Another one of his songs that I adore is one of his slower songs, Chasing the Morning. Itâs really different from his usual sound but it is still amazing.â
âYou like that song too?â Marinette stared at him wide-eyed, âA lot of people dismiss it because it seemed such a deviation from his signature sound. I thought it was very refreshing and established that Jagged not only knew kickbutt rock and roll but romantic serenade as well.â
âThatâs what I say! My one friend hates that song and I just donât get it. How could anyone hate it? The piano alone is more than beautiful sounding.â
âSome people are just cursed with bad taste. Like, XY fans. Now there is some bland and repetitive music if I ever heard any.â
âTell me about it. The guy himself rubs me the wrong way. The cover art for his albums looks like something out of a perfume ad.â
âUnlike Jaggedâs, whose Rock Giant album cover I got to design.â Marinette puffed proudly.
âI heard. Youâre really talented.â Chat smiled wider at her. âAll this talk makes me wish I had some music playing.â
âI can handle that.â Marinette pulled out her phone and clicked on her favorite playlist.
They continued the night talking about their interests. Chat couldnât say a whole lot about his activities outside of being a superhero but it was still nice to get to know the little things about him. Like how his favorite color was blue, he preferred strawberries to cherries, his favorite video game was Mecha Strike IV, he despised cauliflower unless it was drowned in cheese, and that his favorite subject in school was science.
Chat and her had scooted closer so she had her legs stretched out on his lap. âOkay, I got another one.â Chat poured out the last of the lemonade into their cups, âWhat do you want to be when you grow up?â
âThatâs easy. I want to be a famous fashion designer and start my own clothing brand.â
âYou must be super talented.â
âNot to toot my own horn but I have done some incredible work. I love designing not only clothes but accessories as well. My friend Alya is actually helping me start a fashion blog where I can showcase all the stuff I create.â She bit into the last chocolate covered strawberry. âWhat about you? Do you have any plans for the future that you can tell me?â
âMe? WellâŚâ he looked down disheartened, âI havenât thought about my future much, actually. Thereâs what I know my family wants me to do but I never really gave much thought as to what I wanted. I wouldnât even know where to start.â
âWell it should be something you love, something youâre passionate about. What do you love to do?â
âI love being a superhero but this isnât exactly a paying job and itâs not like Iâm going to be a hero forever.â he muttered.
âWe can work with that.â Marinette assured him, âYou like helping people right? Maybe thereâs something there.â
âNow that you mention it, I would like to do something where I work with kids. Maybe a counselor or something?â
âThere you go. You could become a teacher, go to medical school and become a pediatrician, or maybe even a nanny.â
âI think I would prefer being called doctor instead of nanny.â he laughed. âThat is something to think about.â
âWhatever you choose just make sure itâs what you want to do.â she told him. Marinetteâs phone beeped indicating it was almost dead. âOh wow, itâs already that late?â
âHm?â Chat checked the time on his baton, âGeez, I didnât realize it was so late. We should be getting you home.â he helped her to her feet.
âWhat about all of this?â Marinette gestured to the balcony.
âDonât worry, Iâll clean it up after I drop you off.â
âDonât be ridiculous,â she picked up the picnic basket, âIâm right across the street, Iâd feel bad knowing youâre up here cleaning up everything on your own. Besides, itâll go faster with both of helping.â
âThanks. You pack up the picnic and Iâll start on the candles.â Chat looked relieved that he wouldnât be cleaning up on his own.
Marinette folded the blanket and put it in the bottom of the basket followed by the dishes and leftovers from the picnic. Chat Noir would have to take care of the cushions.
âA little...a lot...madlyâŚâ Marinette heard Chat whisper as he blew out the candles.
âChat? What are you doing?â
âI uhâŚâ he turned around holding one of the candles. Even with the mask she could see the pink flushing his cheeks. âJust blowing out the candles.â
âYou were doing the love me, love me not, game. Werenât you?â she smirked as she took the candle, âWhy do you look so sad?â
âBecause it landed on not.â he frowned at the flickering flame.
âNo it didnât.â Marinette said earning a confused look from Chat. âWhat? You did it wrong. It goes a little, a lot, passionately, madly, not at all. So technically this one should be madly.â she blew out the candle.
âMadlyâŚâ Chat whispered almost in awe. Their eyes met and neither could tear their gaze away. âMarinette, IâŚâ
âYes?â she could feel her heart pounding in her chest. Why was she nervous all of the sudden?
âIâŚâ Chat took a deep breath and looked away, âI wanted to thank you for helping me clean up again. It was very nice of you.â
âOhâŚâ Marinette swallowed back her disappointment. Why had she gotten so worked up? What else would she have expected him to say? âIt was no problem.â
âCome on, I should be getting you home for your beauty sleep.â he scooped her up with ease and bound back towards her house setting her down on her own balcony gently. âGoodnight.â
âChat, wait!â she grabbed his tail keeping him from leaving, âI know it may not count for much but I had a great time tonight. Iâm actually kinda glad Ladybug didnât show up.â
Chat Noir smiled back at her shyly, âIf weâre being honest...me too. I had a wonderful time tonight. Maybe we could do this again sometime?â
âIâd love that.â And she really meant it.
âHere,â he handed her a rose, âTill next time.â
She reached out and took the flower, her hand lightly grazing his own. Before she could chicken out she stood up on her toes and left a small kiss on his cheek. âTill next time.â She mumbled trying in vain to hide her blushing face behind the equally as red flower.
Chat Noir stood there for a moment trying to comprehend what had just happened. His mouth open and closed trying to find a response.
Stupid! Stupid! Why did you do that? You just made this so much more uncomfortable! Marinette chastised herself. The trapdoor was right behind her, maybe she could drop down to her bed and hide under the covers.
Before she could execute her escape plan she felt a pair of hands grasp her shoulders and was pulled forward until her face was a mere hair away from Chatâs. He left a lasting kiss on her forehead before pulling away. âGoodnight, Marinette.â
He gave her one last broad smile before jumping from the balcony and disappearing across the rooftops. Marinette rushed to the railing and watched him leave a wistful smile of her own lighting up her blushed face. âGoodnight, Chat Noir.â

yoongi + @daegusoftboys: ive said it before and i will say it again: joongi is my otp. i know she has other biases in other groups but like...theyre passing fancies. joongi is the moon that hangs in the night sky. they are such a strong yet soft power couple. like the coolest couple in the room. delicate and pure and sweet, while also so deeply intense in the way they communicate and understand each other. theres a lot of earth and air energy in their partnership, and i just get so delighted knowing they would be each others rock. together there is literally nothing they cant do. SO with that said, joongi are going out on their 5000000000000th date and i guess are engaged at this point? they are going to a dog park, where they are going to sit and play with doggos and hug them and then have a picnic on the water with a lot of cheese and wine and laughter and i and all our friends will sit 100 yards back crying about how much we love them
taehyung + @from-dae-do-dae: i have also said this before and i will say it again: fei and tae are going on their third date to an art museum. its starting in the morning and its going late into the night. i imagine them at the met in new york, looking at classical art and moving between movements until they get to american mid century pastorals. this is where they discuss light and the movement of light in the styles of paintings. then they move to the photography hall where they spend FAR too long, discussing filtering, development techniques and mixed media. then they go to the hall of instruments where they both shed a few tears, and fei goes on to discuss how caravaggio, as amazing as he was, was mostly a painter of music and tae swoons so hard he almost goes blind. at 5 the museum is about to close so and they realize they havent eaten, so they go to dinner at a nice restaurant to have tapas and seafood fare with wine. they talk about the art they saw, and then move on to discuss deep thoughts, hopes and dreams. they expose each other raw but in a gentle fashion, the kind where you ask a series of questions no one can follow until they arent even sure why theyre discussing the reasons its difficult for them to accept and receive love, but there they are - two bottles of wine in and still they dont want to stop. so they walk through central park along the water and for some reason they dont need to talk anymore they just want to be together. /this got out of control/
jimin + @yeol-stole-my-soul: these beans are going to disney world and universal. fight me about it. jimin needs to loosen up and have fun and maria sleeps even less than i do, and needs to be somewhere she can bang pots and pans as loudly as she wants and no one will mind. i fantasize about them running around, going on all the rides, eating everything, screaming at everything, and then staying out until the park closes. the park empties early of kids around 10 so thats two hours of no lines and running around the park doing everything twice. fun. pure fun. FUN AND - romantic. dont think so? jimins face lighting up at the fireworks over the castle - thats fucking magical. marias face when she realizes not only is the food in epcot delicious, but it tastes just like how her mother makes it. trust me. thats magic, and thats real shit. no one is ever as vulnerable as when theyre delighted because happiness is difficult to hold and this is something they get to hold together. when joy and nostalgia mix, that is when you really learn a person. its easy to see them scared and angry - see a person caught pure delight and that is when you see their soul.Â
jungkook + @queenoftheimpala: these shy beans are taking a painting with wine class. sure, kook probably wont drink and if he does hell be super slow about it. but ali, my delightful beautiful best friend, will take to the bottle like shes drinking gold and will finally let herself open up. when she lets herself go, hes done for. truly, you cant see ali being herself and NOT fall in love. his ass will swoon so hard hell fall through the floor, covered in paint. together, theyll make art. see why they pick the shapes and colours they choose, learn why they make lines different from one another. âmy hand is shaky,â hell say without any confidence, even though his lines are perfect. âive always been terrible at art,â ali will laugh, sheepish, even though she gets it right without trying. they dont really need to say anything to one another, they just need to exist in one anothers orbit and they will realize 1. they are so incredibly similar 2. they are both the most adorable messes and 3. they were made for one another. again, ill be standing in the back crying saying âthis is my favourite movie.â
namjoon + @joonbird: these brilliant beans are going to a pottery class. theyre going to make something with their hands and then they are going to dinner with wine and cheese and theyre going to have conversations that range from personal history to metaphysics to philosophy to the weirdest shit theyve seen while traveling. joon will be amazed by her intellect and her wit, amy will be impressed he manages to make a mug that looks more like a bird house. she doesnt ask questions, just admires his artistic intent. at dinner the conversation carries over, though this time theyre mostly silent - making yummy noises as they eat their food and smiling across the table. this is when they start talking about places theyve been, things theyve seen, food theyve tried - experiences - delighted that now they get to experience each other.
jin+ @2seokforyook: this other power couple are going to take an improv theatre class. kim is shy and sometimes so is jin, but this is where he shines. hes delighted to show off and engage, to open himself a little and, by proxy, watch kim open up by impressing her and making her laugh. kim will be tentative at first, but the comfort and warmth he radiates on stage will be infectious and soon, with a few laughs and awkward pauses, she will find her flow, playing games and enjoying being free of any real focused thought for at least an hour. for a while, its light hearted, laughing so hard they cry a little, but then, at the end, its time to get vulnerable. its seemingly impossible, but again, theyre together, warm and in a bubble of comfort created simply because theyre together and theyre learning to have fun without any restrictions. and so they talk - really, truly talk - without words or a script about everything and nothing. and when its over, when they finally get to leave, they realize that they werent acting. not even for a second.Â
THANKS ANON!!! THIS WAS SO MUCH FUN!!

Babe I just wanna say that your transparent taako price is so amazing and resonates so well with me. Your colour choices and the hurt and anger on his face everything about it so clearly represents a very precise feeling and it's so amazing how evocative it is. Especially! The gold outlining on his back! There are so many layers of symbolism in those simple lines! The contrast of his happy memories behind him and the fact that his face is turned to the shadow! Him turned away from light! (1)
(2)And his turning away from the light also feels like him turning away from lup! Or! If the light represents lup it could be indicative of how she was with him always ! But also! My very first thought was how those golden lines felt like a manifestation of his emotions! Not just light shining upon him but a symbolic presentation of his own negative energies! Idk babe I just love it!!!
(3)I THOUGHT I WAS DONE BUT IM NOT IVE JUST SEEN MORE OF YOUR ART AAAAAHHHH seriously though your use of colour is so fucking astounding you are by far one of my fav artists your lines and colours are so bold and evocative everypeice is visually astounding and so full of emotion
@thelickwitch Iâve literally sat here for around 10 minutes trying to figure out how to respond to this, because I feel like anything I say wonât do it justice! An an amateur artist, receiving stuff like this is the most amazing feeling in the world, and it really makes art worth it! I took a peak at your blog and the tags on my art and these comments are the best thing I could have come home to after a stressful day! Seriously, like, this is such a lovely act of kindness, and please do request drawings from me anytime, I love to make art for other people! I still feel like I canât really adequately respond to all that praise but wow it is appreciated so much day month!!
