Now that we know that Mina loves history and local myths and legends and spooky stories, I remembered something from Jonathan's very first entry (May 3):
I shall enter here some of my notes, as they may refresh my memory when I talk over my travels with Mina...
He follows this by talking about what he's learned so far about the four main nationalities and geography of Transylvania, that he read that "every known superstition" is gathered into the horseshoe of the Carpathians, and notes: (Mem., I must ask the Count all about them.)
Mina meanwhile writes in her first letter that her own journal will be
a sort of journal which I can write in whenever I feel inclined. I do not suppose there will be much of interest to other people; but it is not intended for them. I may show it to Jonathan some day if there is in it anything worth sharing, but it is really an exercise book. I shall try to do what I see lady journalists do: interviewing and writing descriptions and trying to remember conversations.
So they both start their respective journals for different reasons. Mina starts her journaling because she wants 1. to hone new skills 2. to practice her shorthand 3. to do so to become a good secretary for Jonathan. She claims it's To Be Of Service to her future husband and she's totally not enthusiastic to also indulge in it as a hobby. So the goal behind it is practicality and work and duty. Jonathan's journal though has nothing to do with work or with learning new skills. He began writing it because he wanted to use it to share his travel and everything he learned during it with Mina when he'd return home. Mina notes she might show it to Jonathan someday if there'll be anything noteworthy, but it's not her priority.
But both of them begin journaling with their minds focused on their partner: Mina wants her cultivated skills from this "exercise book" to become helpful to Jonathan, and Jonathan wants to share the experiences, recipes, facts, and supernatural tales he's gathered with Mina, who (as she's told Lucy) dreams of traveling someday.

“I got your back.”
[ID: A traditional marker drawing of Luz Noceda and Hunter from the Owl House. They are standing together wearing masks and holding makeshift weapons, and looking at each other. Luz holds a baseball bat with both hands while Hunter holds a rake with one hand, his other hand is holding his mask on his face. Hunter’s mask is an owl design, and Luz’s is a skeletal face with fangs and horns, resembling King. One of the horns is broken and stuck together with sticky tape. Hunter has several earrings in his visible ear, including a chain that connects two studs to each other. Luz has one additional earring to her in-show appearance, and also has two plain chain necklaces and one longer necklace with a sun-like pendant, and rips in her jeans. Other than that, their designs are the same as in the show. The drawing is coloured in a scribbly fashion in a limited palette with strong red lighting, dark blue shadows and teal mid-tones that create a dramatic atmosphere. End ID]

Thinking about Snape and Sephy as I often am and
When she told him to stay away, he had to tell Voldemort. He had a good source of information, a potential new recruit, and now that was gone because of Snape, because of course he took the blame for it. He had to endure hours of torture as punishment, all the while struggling to keep his mind shielded. When it was over, he wanted nothing more than to retreat to a place of safety, but he didn’t have that anymore, because his safe place was her and he wouldn’t violate her demand to stay away.
So he took the punishment, took the torture, and went back to his cold, empty house, still twitching from the effects of the cruciatus curse.
But at least she was safe from him.
