Thinking once again about how beautifully and nuanced Ryoko Kui crafted Toshiro and Laios' relationship. And how in a way the many interpretations and types of reactions say a lot about the viewers' lives and perspectives.
How sometimes two people might want to be polite, might want to be kind, but due to their differences, misscommunication and their own personal flaws they will only end up hurting each other. And the longer their misscommunication lasts, the more it hurts. How sometimes if people spoke sooner it wouldn't get to be so bad.
And how reactions say how quite much everyone been in some kind of situation like that. We assume the best and the worst intentions in each other.
We have to deal with a person who can't stop bothering us. Deal with a person who seems a little shy but they are nice but actually no, they secretly hate us. Situation where someone pretends to be a friend or for some forsaken reason forces themselves to hang out with us. When it's hard to confront someone. When we are too much. When we are in the wrong without realising it. When it's hard to be confronted. Being in a situation you wish you were confronted at the start. How sometimes confrontation is near impossible. Taking a risk of confrontation in general. Not being able to find the right words. Not being able to utter them.
Sometimes we'd all rather to point fingers and call each other names instead of realise the flaws of the world that we live in. How sometimes there Sure are bad people and bad intentions but sometimes it's also just all a bad accident with good intentions on both sides, and lack of education.
Ryoko Kui crafted such a very nuanced and beautiful story. A story with details such show the readers and viewers' feelings and perspectives and shortcomings when interacting with other people. And yeah, i think that's beautiful. Bless.

just read the new mutants issue where Charles chose to stay behind in space and my god the juxtaposition between Charles trusting Erik and Erik joining the hellfire club and wondering at his own trust worthiness. I wonder how much of Charles decision was him ultimately trying to avoid the fact that his first class had seemingly betrayed mutant kind and not be willing to face them and how much of it was Dani and Illyana's reaction to him having Karma mind control Illyana. the fact that Illyana was depending on him to ease her mind through limbo and in choosing to stay he forced karma to do it instead, probably fucking up their relationship in the process.
I love him, this is crazy, how much of this is him trying to runaway and how much is this him not trusting himself to fix things and how much is it just him trusting Erik?
i keep trying to put into words my exact thoughts about the sitch but there really is a lot for one issue aintit... oh charles you and your brain...
#snap chats#thats why we have tag rambles AHAHA#ok so to tackle things one at a time charles ultimately deciding to stay in space despite his expressed want to return to earth#obviously it was when lilandra pointed out if her sister took charge of the shi'ar then the universe- earth included- would be in peril#charles notes his position as a losing one: whichever choice he makes he loses#he goes to earth then the universe could be at stake/he stays in space he loses his kids#of course charles COULD just put his faith in the starjammers but is that a risk he wants to take ? evidently not#charles' reoccurring flaw is he's willing to sacrifice personal relationships for the greater perceived good#even lilandra acknowledges this- that charles' homesickness for earth was an inevitability just as she is indebted to protecting the stars#so now his ruptured relationship with illyana and co- esp right after comforting a split illyana last issue#we've seen charles act more coldly/rashly when he's about to lose people (i think of his first death with the og5 mostly)#i mean it's a key part to charles' chara that he doesn't favor mind controlling others and im sure he has the same regard for his students#he's aware of the damage it can do and in this instance- for one reason or another- he orders it to be done regardless#im sure he does this as a form of defense: if his kids are upset with him they won't feel too bad about losing him and it'll be less painfu#obviously we still see sam wish charles farewell and wish for him to come back soon but yk.. worthy attempt..#and it's not as if charles wants them to hate him ENTIRELY.. he's still touched by sam's goodbye no.... fickle man he is..#i dont think charles is totally afraid to confront the og5- its what made him want to return to earth with the nms initially#tho again.. could his decision to stay in the stars be influenced by that? that maybe he ISNT prepared to confront them like he thought?#who's to say... not me i dont got that psych degree yet..#erik being charles' trusted confidant definitely made his decision easier on top of that: i mean is he needed if he has a substitute#i think charles DOES wholly trust erik: charles really doesnt approach his x-men half heartedly. from his pov ofc#if he didn't genuinely believe in erik's potential he wouldn't have picked him; hes a comforting thought when charles decides to depart#'although i'm gone erik understands me and my goals enough to continue my work as good as i would have so i have nothing to worry about'#which. yk. makes the whole White King thing kinda awkward VJAELVJEAKL charles you fool#i have no idea how this saga ends though... tbh im only on ish 45 of NM i just read 50 and 51 to get context for this ask#so i can only wait and see how this saga turns out... once i finish reading house of m/secret invasion stuff jvLKEJKA#idk im tired and rambling dont pay attention to me.. ramblin bout charles' brain is a good day for me regardless if i make sense jVLAJ

There have been no new enrollments since L and Watari’s deaths. With Matt gone, the room is nobody’s now.
Near often goes there to think.
Sometimes it’s about the Kira case: the clues he is gathering, what he will do to catch Kira.
Sometimes he hugs Mello’s pillow and inhales deeply, imagines he can still smell dark chocolate. Once or twice, he does the same with Matt’s, which has kept the scent of cold tobacco.
Sometimes he pictures different things. L not dead, Mello still here, Matt still glued to him, Near creeping in-between the two of them and staying.

Flows together pretty nicely should be even better post-beta#but this has nothing to do with our drabbles at this point I'm just sleepy rambling about our other writing dhfgsdh#Anyway yeah. Bedtime soon EXCITED THOUGH. And thinking about it#perhaps reading more fic can happen tomorrow... not 100% on it due to we have therapy AND cooking AND errand AND book club#and I think that's already going to be a stretch for our spoons tbh. Like I hope we have some spares (and priority to our own writing)#but if we don't well. We don't. #i just. man#first of all i was super into it when i was younger. optimus prime has long been a projectable (and ratchet too‚ from tfp)#but even that's like more recent. when i was SEVEN i was running around in circles to the transformers 1980 theme and re-binging the movie#(autism? what? who? where? but fr it was like a daily thing p much where me and my brothers would just lose it to that song. good ol' days)#transformers#for the search function lol. anyways back to the ramble: the obsession started young and continued throughout my teenage years#the transformers prime version was ABSOLUTELY peak and clears every time. still SO good my brothers and i binged the heck out of that too#but i don't think we ever got to watch the movie??? or maybe it was season 3??? either way i remember being like WHAT OPTIMUS IS EVIL???#and never getting resolution which i still need to do (also reminding me of clone wars...never did finish that one and still not spoiled)#anyway yeah the nintendo 3DS transformers prime game was yet another staple of my childhood. fave main was optimus obvs#but it just fills me with joy to see the resurgence in this and also makes me feel some complex emotions because it's a part of little me#and that version of me feels like so long ago...my own orion pax in a way#11-year-old me checking out giant lore books and speeding through them (i need to find this one book!! it's been years!!#it was the first transformers tome i ever read and told the story of orion pax!! and i vaguely remember the cover? but not the title! help!)#ANYway yes just feeling a lot of feelings and. i love transformers#kay can i just catch my breath for a second#kay has a party in the tags#also if you're reading this: i voted and you should too!!!

im so conflicted about them. when gen gives into her feelings they can be so cute (i love protective gen) but when she shows her “bad side” she becomes a total bitch! i wanted aoey to slap her or leave her on multiple occasions. SOMETIMES BOTH!

#books have made me insane. and they were supposedly nyt bestsellers back in their day and yet no one ? is talking about them????#granted their day was ten years ago BUT#god. i’m so insane i had to start watching the tv show (only ~50% the same canon) because that people ARE talking about#if only a little bit and mostly to complain about some shit that apparently went down in the later seasons regarding a ship i’m pretty#agnostic on tbh#maybe the show will sell me on it and then proceed to shatter my heart as well. we shall see as i continue#anyway read them! read them read them!!!#i was hesitant for a while because they get pitched everywhere as ‘a GROWN-UP narnia… a WITTY GENRE-AWARE harry potter…’ and i was like.#well to be frank that sounds kind of mean-spirited and lacking in whimsy :/#but actually they’re SO good 🥺 they are like love letters to the genre that are also a fresh take and are fucking hilarious and chart an#incredibly moving emotional journey of the protagonist from adolescence to adulthood#so please. someone come be insane with me :)

i’m so intrigued by dannyclara despite not shipping them. i think that relationship is an interesting addition to clara’s character arc and i’m still trying to to figure out it’s purpose.

#to be clear bc i know im swinging a bat at a hornets nest i think both of these posts make decent points#i am a socialist but i do not believe that revolutionary and reformist politics are necessarily mutually exclusive#multiple things can be true at once#capitalism is a fundamentally exploitative and violent system which must be swiftly dismantled for the sake of all life on the planet#and those who enter parliamentary politics in hopes of enacting reform often end up serving the interests of capital and western imperialis#but at the same time#we must not abrogate responsibility by refusing to exercise our hard-won democratic right to participate in elections#its an insult to the millions of people around the world living under authoritarian regimes for one thing and its fucking stupid for anothe#we must be realistic about the state of class consciousness in most western societies and work pragmatically with the tools available to us#we must also try to minimise harm and suffering as best we can and produce the best outcome for the greatest number of people#while also not leaving behind those who are marginalised#at times both reform and revolution seem impossible tasks and yet we must continue to work towards them both as best we can#on the topic of voting - i live in australia where its compulsory and where we also have preferential voting#which means that its impossible to “waste your vote” by voting for a minor party#i typically vote for our greens party - who are the largest minor party in the country and the most progressive on most issues#for example they're basically the only ones consistently condemning our (labour) government's support of israel#so to be clear for the americans reading these tags#if i lived in the USA i would vote in every election#i might sometimes vote for democratic candidates if they had genuinely progressive policies#but no i would not “vote blue no matter who”#okay i'm finished tilting at windmills now im just paranoid about being misinterpreted asdgfhjklk#voting#elections#the trolley problem#reform#revolution#leftist#socialism#marxist

#I keep giggling looking at my friend's drawing of Shadow Milk#a stand in for pf I haven't finished yet#now I'm literally just hugging Sparkle plushie I get why people collect those#ALSO tbob is hereeee#literally sitting and lying down surrounded by chaos sillies#I don't have a type I don't but then I kind of have merch... and mostly for only them#also I need to draw Shadow Milk as some of the tbob pages or at least things from there bc they fit#sadly I don't have Flowey as pf rn (I had like 3 and all are lost by now)#Bill is hidden in another book I have and I'm not taking him out#but yay#this marks my Gravity Falls collection basically fully complete as it is with the only thing missing being the retellings of the show#and the coloring book is.... somewhere idk where but SOMEWHERE I sure had it#for the first merch I really really wanted GF is most satisfying to collect#I don't count MLP though! I didn't have nearly as many things for mlp I did have a lot of them but not too much#GF on the other hand was in my life in every period of my life somehow#like if me from 2017 saw just what I have rn they would've been sooo jealous but extremely happy#bc that same teen got Journal 3 as a gift and immediately read it because I had literally no spoilers for it#and even though I've read EVERY spoiler possible for tbob last July-August holding it in my hands is an experience#like some of the things just WORK better when you have the book itself instead of just a photo or something#it's also better since it's well in your hands as a book instead of just scrolling in the internet or something#it's also the most Bill had continuing “screen time” in any GF media if we don't include the AMA the AMA was somewhat similar#again if teen me would've been jealous kid me would've probably screamed that this thing exists#I have never been normal about this particular show despite never posting about it as a kid#since well. I was a kid I wanted to keep to myself and enjoy in peace since I was still a pre-teen or teen#and also this specific book and the fixation it started saved my second summer camp fun#anyway plush Sparkle is the softest I missed the feel of getting new plushies

I finished reading Sha Po Lang today. I don't think I'll have time to get into all my thoughts for a few days, but there's a really interesting essay to be written about how this novel's themes compare to Tai Sui's. Both novels are about the end of one era and the start of another, but each story's protagonist (and each story as a whole) goes about fighting corruption and societal decay in very different ways. Sha Po Lang is a story about fixing a failing country from the inside by working within the system—it's a story celebrating a Good Emperor. Tai Sui is, for the most part, about systems that are corrupt and oppressive by nature and must be torn down and equalized to elevate the common people. That's a hell of a change in viewpoint for novels written by the same author six years apart.
#I'm curious now to see if there are any earlier priest novels that touch on the same themes. and how they handle them if so#since spl is kinda mid period for her. and its themes connect to md's. which came out a year later#I'm also really curious to see if her later work will continue to reflect the ideas expressed in TS. or if she'll regress#but I don't think any of her newer stuff has been translated#also since I'm breaking my rule of not posting about it and I don't mention this in the post itself#obligatory disclaimer that. interesting parallels to TS aside#spl is hideously racist. and I cannot in good conscience recommend any one else read/buy it#I'd really rather nobody do so because of me at least#invasion of the frogs#andie reads spl#technically I haven't finished all the extras yet. but I've at least finished reading the whole main plot
