yknow sometimes i get why tumblr had so many insanely obvious hoaxes gain traction bc the way some people on here will eviscerate people for being even slightly incredulous about something is honestly scary
#like. that lady who claimed the wachowskis stole the plot of the matrix from her got traction here dude#she claimed aliens gave it to her. come on guys.#ik ppl think of like. alexandria's genesis or infinite chocolate or the tubby custard machine/hot dog thing#and while those are dumb and something you would expect an adult with critical thinking skills to recognize as false#they are kind of ultimately harmless to believe. like worst case scenario you stop eating hot dogs or you fuck up some chocolate#but also it's a symptom of a larger problem bc people extend the same credulity to like. accusations of serious crimes#and it's just equally unwarranted#but god forbid you call someone on tumblr with no sources and no credentials a liar#because that makes you just as bad as the person trying to ruin someone's life with little to no evidence#tl;dr tumblr has a huge misinfo problem bc the culture here is that it's morally wrong to not take someone at their word#and sometimes the results are 'bitch that's the tubby custard machine'#but also sometimes the results are people being stalked and harassed off the internet over actual nothing#also wrt my first example bc I think some ppl might misconstrue it#yes there are instances of ppl on here making false accusations bc they were genuinely under the delusion those things were true#(the m*tski s*x sl*ve thing to name a more well-known one)#that does not mean they are malicious actors im obviously not saying that#but also. if you are mentally well enough to recognize something is not logically consistent you don’t have to believe it

[....mine...my....I...me]

[Your head hurts, it's pounding. You very slightly open your eyes and]
[oh]
[there's blood.]
[you're lying in a pool of blood. Some of it is on your head...drip drip dripping down your face.]
[some of it isn't yours]
[you're just barely able to lift yourself off the ground. It smells terrible. Like an awful concoction of flesh and sanitary alcohol. The ground...it's colder than before. This is not the same floor as the one you fell on.]
[you...recognize this place. It's in worse condition but...yes...yes you remember]
[I... remember]
[that girl. In the back. This is where you found her before-]
[oh god. The blood and her memory. You hated the implications.]
[that corner, where she sat. She seemed so lonely...The thought of her tired eyes and small composure...]
[...that corner, a machine. It's blade doused in blood. It hasn't been cleaned]
[....a meat grinder?]
[your eyes widened at the thought. You quickly covered your mouth and shook your head, trying to rid yourself of the disgusting thought...]
[..Finally, you arise. Your legs are shaky, your head and hair damp with blood and cold sweat. What the hell are you doing here? How did you get here..?]
[you recollect what happened....Did she hit you over the head, or did you pass out? Perhaps, your head hit the floor too hard. Whatever it was, it didn't matter now. Now, your priority was to get ou-]
You're awake.
[..the pharmacist. She looked so oddly bleak. So...empty]
Took you long enough..he..haha...
[ah, that smile. But it just wasn't the same. Her eyes were narrowed, her arms in her coat pocket. She continued to chuckle]
Haha...heha....you really...really couldn't let this go, huh?
"..."
"..What did you to her."
hmph...I thought I told you before. She's dead...you know, I hate repeating myself. It's so fucking annoying. I fucking hate it.
Yeah, sure, I've kinda enjoyed all this. But do you know how much of an annoying little brat you are..? For fucks sake, and to think...I wanted to help you.
"H-help..?"
"are you being serious right now?! Help?! Since when has what you're doing been help!?"
...hm. I don't think I want to answer that.
[She moved off the wall, and starting to circle around you. You felt trapped]
"No-No that's not how it works. You've ruined my li-"
What life?
[She turned her head to you, inching closer]
What sort of life have you lived? What life are you remembering, hm? You don't have a life, not anymore. You're life isn't yours. Both of us. We do not live, we don't have lives.
mm...haha...
[She turned to the machine, putting her finger inside and swiping the blood off of the blades. She put her thumb in her mouth, wiping her mouth]
This life, wasn't alive either.
[You felt physically sick. You were fighting the urge to throw up, right there and then. You're fists clenched]
[You had so many questions....]
[Your eyes drifted towards the machine, a shiver down your spine following along. You swiftly looked behind you towards the corner of the room, thinking of that girl]

˚୨୧⋆yes, & i love you。˚ ⋆
velvet x FEM!reader
• one shot
• fluff/slight angst
velvet, the pop star every girl strived to be, had met you at a meet-and-greet, recognized you from highschool and instantly made you her #2 not necessarily her assistant but accompanied her on every shopping trip, dress rehearsal and personal meetings to discuss her opportunities for her career.
but you were quite more than just her dresser. from the heart melting tension to the pain you felt each time you were away from eachother turns more and more intense as time goes by.
you knew what you wanted, and by her longing gaze before fleeting to a show, you knew she knew too, but was she committed to her feelings as much as you?
˚ · • . ° . ˚ · • . ° . ˚ · • . ° . ˚ · • . ° . ˚ · • . ° .
“what do you mean my cards been declined?”
“ma’am, i-“
“try it again!” velvet protested, waving her credit
card in the air and her other hand balling into a fist.
you stood there , holding shopping bags all up your
arms and smiling nervously at the cashier.
awkwardly, you walked over to velvet and put your
hand out, her hesitating for a second but placing the
card on your palm and crossing her arms ignorantly.
you inserted the card into the machine, waited
patiently and it beeped.
“perfect!” the cashier exclaimed, looking relieved
whilst looking at you , mouthing ‘thank you’. you
nodded at her and looked to velvet. she rolled her
eyes and picked up a few bags.
“yeah yeah, don’t look at me like that. let’s go.”
both of you headed out of Ralph Lauren and into the
parking lot, where you loaded the bags into the back
of the limo, and getting into the car. you sat next to
velvet , a couple inches away, and she melted into
the seat.
“UGH, that was exhausting.” velvet whined, her eyes
falling closed. you admired the purple, sparkly
eyeshadow she had on, which you yourself put on
her that morning. you suddenly remembered how
close she was to you and how you could smell her
strawberry cream perfume. you blinked and looked
down, giggling.
“girl, i don’t think you could last a REAL full day of
shopping. you’d collapse.” you joked. velvet opened
her eyes, furrowing her eyebrows with a small smile.
“what do you mean a REAL day of shopping?”
you smiled and crossed your legs.
“nine to five, shopping alllll day without stopping and
coming home with blisters and your makeup ruined.”
velvet scoffed and kicked you gently with her boot.
“i could so do that, don’t test me y/n.” she shot back,
leaning in slightly to intimidate you. you stuck your
tongue out at her.
“game on , 30$ says you’ll give up within the half
hour.”
velvet rolled her eyes and laid down on the seat,
crossing her legs.
“don’t even with that.” she murmured, leaving you
giggling to yourself.
after the car ride from one of vels assistant, you both
escorted and velvet was snappy with getting other
assistants to bring the bags inside. you felt awkward
whenever she did that, like you were useless in the
situation, and it was even worse when you weren’t
even the celebrity , so you had no right to be
standing there with nothing in your hands. but,
whatever velvet says goes, so you carried on.
entering her and veneers mansion, you took a
glimpse to the chandelier over head of you. no matter
how many times you’ve walked into this room, you’re
still taken aback by the beauty of the shining crystals
and the cream light that poured over it.
“do you want one? i can easily get one. everytime i
see you you’re eye eating that thing.” velvet intrudes,
pulling out her phone.”
“NO, no. i don’t want one, this one is just specifically
pretty. it’s nice to be able to walk into the room with
it glowing.” you continued to gaze over it, your eyes
shining like beads and your lips pulled into a soft
smile.
velvet watched you, staring at your eyes as she bit
the inside of her cheek. she felt a pang in her chest,
but couldn’t tell if it was good or bad. clearing her
throat, she turned around and headed for her
staircase.
“come, we can find places for the clothes then finally
pick out a nail colour for tomorrow.” she stated, you
weren’t slow to catch up to her.
now in her room of many rewards on shelves and
carpet flooring, velvet groaned when she saw all the
shopping bags on the floor.
“they could have AT LEAST put them down neatly.”
she grumbled. you noticed overtime that she was the
picky type, and not just rich picky, but things had to
be exactly right in her eyes or everything would go to
hell. you walked to the bags and started going
through the clothes, sorting between color , fabrics,
tops and bottoms. after sorting, you began putting
away everything, and velvet was right at your side.
“for the polish, i was thinking arctic blue that’s
marble with light blue, and maybe light glitter? no
wait that’s stupid..” she speaks as you fold and hang
clothing on hangers in her walk in closet, right at
your hip and throwing her hands in your face.
sometimes you think she forgets how comfortable
she is around you.
“what’s your favourite color again?” she asks out of
the blue.
“f/c.” you mumble.
she stares at you for a moment,
not saying anything and then groaning, swatting
clothes out of your hands and pulling you by the
wrist out of the closet. “it’s like talking to a wall.” she
mumbles, acting all pissy, but in reality she just
wanted your attention.
you both sit on her king sized bed, her laying down
on the bed on her back, crossing her legs (she does
this a lot, you never knew why) and looking at her
nails. she continues to ramble about polish and how
it’ll match her performance outfit, then how she
hated the outfit, and how she hated the smell of
detergent, then.. you got a little lost. you you look
down at her, one leg tucked under you and your hand
down on the mattress holding yourself up.
“vel,” you started and she stopped. “what?”
“take a second girl. you’ve been pent up about
this nonstop , just breathe.” you grinned and her
expression softened slightly. her shoulders loosened
up and you noticed her jaw stopped flexing. she
opened her mouth to say something, closed it, then
opened again; “if i asked you to do something
stupid , what would you say?”
you scanned her eyes. “yes. i would say yes
everytime.”
your expression was so serious it
frightened her for a moment. you remembered to
relax and smiled a little. “well, cause, it’s hard to say
no to a celebrity. or whatever.” you bettered , velvet
rolling her eyes in exaggeration.
“i’m being serious, y/n.”
“oh are you? that’s shocking.”
“hm, yeah, jackass.”
“you adore me though.”
silence. she stared at you with her beady , deep blue
eyes. they were similar to spears, threatening to
attack and not being able to look away. she laid on
the bed , her green curls and locks spread on the
satin sheets like a painting. if only it were a painting,
she couldn’t have looked more beautiful.
“y/n,” she whispered , a smile pulling at the corner of
her mouth. you hummed in response, her legs falling
to the side that brushed your arm. her eyelids hung
low as she looked at you. a magnet in your stomach
pulled you closer to her,
and you let it.
you leaned down to her, hearing her breath hitch in
her throat and her lips parting the further you leaned
down. but her headed to started to shake, her eyes
fell closed and her breathing got shaky.
“no.. no, no no” she whispered , sitting up and
backing away. you panicked for a moment and
leaned away from her , raising your hands.
“h-hey, i’m sorry, i didn’t mean to make you
uncomfortable,” you spat out and she still shook her
head.
“this.., this can’t happen. get out please.” she
murmured.
you froze, your expression completely falling. “what?”
“i said get out.” she snapped , pointing to the door,
her eyes red and hot and you wondered what her
tears looked like oh you wondered how her tears felt ,
“okay.” you whispered with a voice crack, feeling a
lump in your throat and getting up from her bed. you
turned and headed out her door, closing it slowly and
feeling your stomach twist and churn as you heard
the door click.
everything had felt right, why had she acted like it
was so out of the blue? did you misunderstand? no,
you couldn’t have. that look in her eye. the contact,
the way she seemed to have pulled your soul from
your throat.
ohhh, she had you. had you by the strings.
eyes watering, you found your way out of the house
and went somewhere. you didn’t really know where.
anywhere was nowhere without her.
┊ ⋆ ┊ . ┊ ┊ ┊ ⋆ ┊ . ┊ ┊ ┊ ⋆ ┊ . ┊
the next day…
yes, you had eventually made it home. after a long
night of contemplating and trying to tear the pit out
of your stomach, you fell asleep on your couch at
4am. you decided to head to velvet and veneers
dressing room early. usually you went with velvet, but
you decided there was no point. there you prepped
their makeup and hair products , anything to keep
yourself busy. it wasn’t your job, it was crimps, but
you couldn’t care less. sometimes you felt like you
did more than her.
as you were laying out makeup brushes, eyes half
open from exhaustion, you heard the door knob
rattling. you had locked the door without realizing it,
so you went to open it. you were then face to face
with a messy up-do velvet with her casual gold mini
skirt and gold top that was paired with pearl earrings
and a white pendant. you felt that churn in your
stomach that came as a familiar feeling. you forced a
smile and opened the door wide open for her.
“good morning vel,” you murmured, her walking in
and scanning the room.
“you didn’t have to.. do any of that. you aren’t
supposed to.” she says almost defensively, putting
her purse down and avoiding eye contact. leaning
against the wall with your hands in your pockets, you
gazed at her. “i didn’t think it mattered.” you replied
with a tone you didn’t recognize.
she didn’t respond, only cleared her throat and
pulled the elastic out of her hair, her loose, flowing
hair falling over her shoulders. you noticed her nails,
but didn’t catch a glimpse of what she did with them.
“what uh…” you started, feeling a lump forming in
your throat. you tried to gulp it down and she looked
at you.
“what color did you do your nails?” you asked. she
looked down at them, seeing her face freeze.
“f/c. the marble.. i was talking about.”
you felt like she kicked you in the stomach. you
shook your head and stood straight.
“velvet. what…what is this? cmon, please.” you
looked her in the eye as your voice broke. you could
tell she was trying to hide an emotion, by the way her
eyebrows twitched and her eyes darted from wall to
wall.
“i don’t know what you’re talking about. stop, y/n.”
she said monotonously, sitting down in her vanity
chair and easing a brush through her hair.
“wanna pass me a claw clip?” her tone changed, like
she was completely over it.
you watched her through the mirror, hating how you
felt like a neglected dog. you didn’t bite.
“fine. then i’ll.. i’ll go. crimp will be here soon.” you
picked up your jacket and opened the door.
“no.. no y/n don’t go, don’t go,” she looked panicked
and got up rushing to you , grabbing onto the sleeve
of your jacket. she let go almost instantly. you stood
there, looking at her with your head turned, and you
closed the door, not looking away from her.
“then talk to me.”
“i-i don’t, this isn’t.. good. for my image. for all of
them. i can’t have this, it would cause a wreck in the
media. it won’t work..” she stood so close to you, her
breathing shaky. you furrowed your eyebrows
slightly. it started to click, or so you thought.
“oh. oh, what because your fame is more important
than your feelings? is that it? velvet. you’re better
than this. don’t choose people who love you by first
impression over someone who would walk to the
ends of the earth for—“ she shook her head which
cut you off.
“no, that’s not..” her eyes began to glisten, trying to
fight her worst fear.
“i wish you were a boy.”
your blood ran cold. as if things couldn’t get any
worse, she pulls that card. you stood there like an
idiot; when you should’ve walked away there and
then. you couldn’t get yourself to.
“oh.” you couldn’t tell if you genuinely spoke or if it
was in your head. she batted her eyelashes at you
and it was similar to knives being plummeted in your
throat.
“this is just how it’s supposed to be. you’re supposed
to help me with clothes and makeup and be my
fashion designer , i just do what im—“
“i could make you feel more than any man ever
could. you know that.” you became slightly
aggravated. you knew she ddint actually want this,
and hell if you did. she turned around and you took
her wrist gently, stepping towards her.
“don’t run from this.”
“y/n, please,”
“we’re meant to be girls together, just try—“
“don’t push this, y/n, y/n i cant —“
“i wasn’t lying.” you said disconnectedly. she looked
back at you.
“if you ever asked me to do something crazy. i’d say
yes. if you asked me to climb mount Everest in a
dress, i’d say yes. if you asked me to be with you,”
you glided your hand down her arm and took her
hand.
“i’d say yes, and i love you.” you could feel the
magnet again, threatening to collapse out of
exhaustion.
“…don’t, don’t…” velvet found herself leaning towards
you with tears smudged at her waterline. and she
kissed you. and she kissed you with a sigh, with a
broken promise. a single tear from her fell to your
cheek, and somehow that pulled you closer together.
you broke apart, looking into eachother eyes, and
didn’t notice your hands squeezing with intertwined
fingers. you rose her hand up and pushed it against
her chest.
“figure yourself out first. you can’t rip my heart out
then eat it.” your own words hurt to say, but you
knew if things would work out, both of you needed
this.
she looked hurt, keeping her hand to her chest even
when you pulled yours away. velvet wiped her face
and cleared her throat. “okay.”
the door swung open.
“god damn janitors, jesus chr.. i just fell on my ass,
vel. no one knows how to dry floors apparently.”
veneer burger in whining , crimp following behind
him. you looked at him, then back at velvet.
who was staring at her nails.

ACOTAR Rant
Have y'all missed these? I have. The rambling juice machine is running again apparently.
Okay, so I just saw a post @an6elic-d3vil made about the scene in Frozen where Elsa freezes Anna's heart reminding them of Tamlin's outburst in the study in ACOMAF, and it triggered a very very long rant about this. You can find the original post here, I didn't want to hijack it with my senseless rambling.
Also, side note, I think I've gone into some detail about what I'm going on about here before. I don't think I've ever made a full explanation of my line of thinking. But just to preface, if I get a singular comment or reblog calling me an abuse apologist, a victim blamer or a misogynist, you will not be acknowledged and you will be blocked.
Anyway, onto the rant.
Honestly, this is the best example of what happened between Tamlin and Feyre. No one blames Elsa for harming Anna, despite her finally accessing full power, no one would expect her to have full control over them, she had lived in fear of them her entire life. She saw herself as a monster who could hurt or potentially kill Anna, and when eventually pushed to her absolute breaking point, she exploded. Anna wasn't at fault either, but later on, it's clear she recognized that Elsa wasn't in full control, and that what she had done was not an example of her true character but a reaction she had no control over.
It's the same situation with Feyre, minus how Anna handled the situation, Tamlin had just gotten back the full extent of his powers, whilst still under immense stress. He canonically did not want the High lord's magic, and viewed himself as a monster who could hurt or potentially kill those around him. He lived in fear of himself, and when eventually pushed to his absolute breaking point, he exploded. It was a natural reaction that he had no control over whatsoever. Feyre was not at fault for it either, but unlike Anna, Feyre actively went out of her way to attribute this outburst to Tamlin's true character, when it was obviously a reaction that he actively regretted.
Tamlin then tried to reign in his magic, despite still being under immense stress, and having to deal with power that was out of control. He tried to be better, but unlike Anna with Elsa, who tried to help Elsa, Feyre sabotaged his attempts and purposefully pushed him to the point that he would lose control of his magic, and then put herself in harms way so that she could ruin his reputation.
When you look at it how it is and not through the eyes of Feyre's biased POV, what Feyre did to Tamlin when she returned to the Spring Court, is far more sinister.
Was Feyre being harmed by Tamlin's outburst of magic the first time her fault? No, of course not.
Was Feyre being harmed by Tamlin's outburst of magic the second time, when she manipulated him into having an attack, and then went out of her way to ensure he harmed her so that she could ruin his reputation and therefore destabilize the Court, her fault? HMMMMM....
Not to mention that throughout that scene, at least from my shitty memory, Tamlin was aware that he was slowly reaching his breaking point, and telling, practically pleading with Feyre, to stop, so that he didn't hurt her by accident.
Hmm, an orchestrated pattern of behavior, in this case preying on your partner's fear and high-functioning anxiety that is driven by their intense trauma, that centers around forcing a reaction out of them so that you can maintain power and control over how other people perceive them for your own personal gain? Sounds a lot like...
On a side note, I'm also kind of done with the continued rhetoric that Feyre should have 'just gone after Tamlin' and left the rest of the Spring Court alone. Because, honest to God, explain to me why she is justified in abusing Tamlin.
"He locked her up." She was attempting to follow him onto dangerous territory, despite being untrained, in a new body, and having a history of running into dangerous situations and winding up needing to saved. Even when it came to Amarantha, Feyre DIED. She has never succeeded once in protecting herself on her own when in a highly dangerous situation, she always ended up needing someone beside her or to rescue her.
"He was controlling her." He had a few sentries ensure that she would not be in harm's way. They had Amarantha's big boss coming at them and Feyre just killed one of his biggest assets, you don't think that Tamlin wouldn't be smart enough to know that Hybern would have his eyes set on Feyre?
Should Tamlin have helped Feyre in training her new powers? Yes. Did his fear of losing Feyre again blind him to what she actually needed? Also yes. But I implore you to refer to the Elsa and Anna example above. Now, that's a little bit different, Elsa was the one locking herself away, but the principle remains. Elsa controlled Anna in not allowing her to marry Hans, hiding information that caused the entire plot of the movie, and wound up harming Anna significantly because of this. But the important thing to note is that, Elsa didn't know any better. How could she have known that Anna would be able to handle this information when it literally almost killed them as kids? Plus, no one would ever say Elsa wasn't entirely correct in telling Anna she could not marry Hans, she did know better in that regard. Why would Tamlin want to involve Feyre in more magic, when she literally died a few months ago after getting too involved with Fae? And why would Tamlin not know better than Feyre when it came to her following him on a dangerous mission, he has been in these situations before, and knows more about them.
Feyre was traumatized and needed a space that Tamlin could not give her, but Tamlin needed a space that Feyre couldn't give him either. They didn't help each other, they weren't physically able to, and neither were in a mental state in which they could successfully care for the other. And that is neither of their fault. But I again ask you, why is that a reason that Feyre should be allowed to abuse Tamlin as 'punishment'?
I have absolutely strayed from the original point I wanted to make, but I'm sort of glad I did. I've never considered Elsa and Anna as a possible example of Feyre and Tamlin's relationship and yet, it's almost a perfect reflection. Trauma will change the way people think, and when panicked people lose their rationale. Tamlin should have done things differently, and later on, when he saw how his actions led to Feyre ending up in the Night Court, he actively tried to be better.
If any of you have anything to add, please do. I think there is also something to be said about the power imbalance between Feyre and Tamlin, but I think it's also similar to that of Elsa and Anna, where Elsa is Queen and Anna is the Princess.
Also, obviously, Feyre's fucked up perception of Tamlin is driven by SJM trying to break up Feylin to make Feysand happen, so a lot of things that Tamlin does are just... very random? They happen not because, Tamlin as a character would do that, but because SJM is trying to make Tamlin a horrible person. Which she is failing to do, because all of these things happen off screen, e.i killing the sentries who were on duty when Morrigan kidnapped Feyre, giving Lucien a black eyes and a split lip, etc. We don't see the very random acts of cruelty on screen, and if we do see acts of cruelty, they tend to be for a good reason. For example, the wraiths that had nothing to give for the Tithe, and Tamlin being like "Well you give something, or you're gonna be hunted down." This happens because, one- everyone has to do it, no exceptions are ever made, and two- what each person has is calculated and their taxes are all equal to the amount they have, which is extremely fair tbh.
So, yeah, this is my very long post of why Feyre is actually a really shitty character and what she did to Tamlin and the Spring Court was not a #girlyboss move, but actually a "You abused your ex for funzies" move.

The Anomaly Archives - Reality #001
AU of The Raven's Hymn
Pairing: SCP-049 x Reader
Chapter Warnings: Dubious consent, sex pollen, oral sex, vaginal sex
AO3
With infinite universes come infinite possibilities. But even within the threads of innumerable choices, there are… patterns. Threads that will interweave time and again, with no discernible rhyme or reason.
Some call it fate. Others, providence. Humans call it the law of Large Numbers, and that is close enough for what I attempt to convey to the record.
The purpose of this record is to document the threads that curve toward one specific individual. To what end, the Editors will determine. I am simply an observer.
That is what I tell myself.
--The [REDACTED] Wandsman of [REDACTED]
The opening of the outer doors brought his head up, alert and poised for his cruel captors to make an appearance. He had grown agitated, pacing in front of the observation screen, not knowing what had befallen her. His dear assistant, taken away in chains to once again be submitted to the senseless whims of brutish men.
The Doctor did not fare well, his chest a boundless void with each passing moment of her absence. He missed her sweet presence, the comfort that came with it, her touch soothing the machinations of his restless mind.
Of course, that same touch could also light a spark in him, setting the fatwood ablaze, and it took all of his considerable will to smother the flames before they spread beyond his control.
It was a different sort of fire that consumed him now, rage curling around his heart as his assistant was carelessly shoved into the chamber. She caught herself on the autopsy table and leaned her weight against it as her legs seemed unable to steady beneath her.
Her bare legs. The grey medical tights she usually wore were missing, leaving her only in the white smock.
Possession, a creature with liquid fire for blood and flame-kissed metal for claws, a beast that demanded retribution on any who had dared touch her. It raged within his dark form, but he held it at bay for her sake.
The Doctor was at her side in an instant, and the ravenous beast was temporarily sated as he caught hold of her shoulders. She appeared weak, or fatigued, and he feared she would collapse from the way she trembled.
Despite her clumsy gait, she stepped into the circle of his arms and held him, her grip strong with desperation. The Doctor blinked. It was not unusual for her to return in such a state, affected to a degree that left her on the edge of ruin.
But this seemed... different. Unfamiliar, the way she pushed her face into his neck, breathing in deep as if to catch his scent, her fingers pressing divots into his back. Her body crowded him, restless, pressed flat against his surface and straining to be closer.
Deep within, something flickered to life.
“…Doctor Reid?”
He hadn’t intended her name to come out as a breathless rasp, but he was caught off-foot, not entirely sure how to approach this novel situation. This close to her, surrounded by her familiar fragrance, there was an underlying chemical he didn’t recognize.
Alarm jostled his thoughts. He might not know the compound, but he could sense its nature, a hormone intended to affect mammals in a particular way.
His assistant didn’t answer him with words; she slipped a leg between his, attempting to straddle his thigh, a precarious position while they still stood. She wasn’t deterred, holding him tighter as she rocked against his hip.
The Doctor’s mind struggled to assess the situation correctly, but his body responded with a haste that outpaced his good sense. Heat licked up his abdomen and his member stirred, threatening to expand out of its sheath with the sudden blood flow.
He jerked back, forced to catch her when she nearly spilled to the floor.
“Assistant, please.” He held her firm but kept a modest distance between them. “I need to know what was done to you. Do you remember?”
She licked her lips, pupils blown as she tried to focus on his face. And she did try, he knew from the dip in her brow and her confused frown.
“Y-yes. A gas. They m-made me inhale it. I tried n-not to breathe, but...”
“I understand,” he said, soft. Despite the irritating reactions of his body, his heart ached for yet another indignity she was forced to endure. “Your predicament is through no fault of your own. I will attempt to provide aid. If you could please tell me your symptoms, I shall try to find a remedy that—”
“No!” She shook her head, words choked, eyes wide. “He said n-not to. Leahy. He said no... no antidotes. Nothing f-from your bag.”
His eyes narrowed, venomous barbs curling around his chest as they always did when he was reminded of the Site Director’s existence. The Doctor would love nothing more than to adorn a pair of gloves and wrap his fingers around the man’s neck. He would not wish his suffering to end too swiftly, after all.
“What is the purpose of this drug?”
His assistant shook her head again, discomfort and unease lining her features. She squirmed against his grip, sweat beading on her forehead below her hairline.
“He didn’t say. They just... gave it to me. Nothing happened, at first. And then as they were bringing me back—”
She released a noise, her legs rubbing together as she avoided his gaze.
“Please,” he gently said, “tell me what you are experiencing. If only so we may relieve the symptoms—”
Another noise from her, this one pained, and she wrenched from his hands, surprising him with her strength. She slipped within the confines of his hold and crushed her body against his, gripping his robes as if she were drowning.
“Hot,” she gasped into his shoulder. “Too much. Need it to stop. Need—”
While he reeled from her sudden proximity, she grabbed his hand and shoved it under her smock, forcing him to cup her. The shocking heat was the first thing he noticed, the second, how she was soaked through her undergarments, wetting his fingers with barely a touch.
He had lived a long life, longer than even he could remember, and never once in his great existence could he recall a time when his mind simply... stopped. Nothing passed through it except a soft sort of buzz, like one of those televisions that no longer received a signal.
The noise she made was unholy, sinful as she rubbed herself on his hand. Her face was against his collar, pressed into the loose fabric that encircled his throat. His skin had always been muted to sensations, a barrier between him and the outside world, but he could feel every heated breath she exhaled, ever scratch of her nails and the slick essence leaking from her.
His assistant was dwarfed in comparison to him, yet she pushed him, forced him in retreat to the inner chamber, all the while her lips explored his neck, guiding his fingers for the relief she sought. There was only a thin barrier of cotton between her flesh and his, and it would take so little effort to pull that barrier aside and gift her with exactly what she needed.
If this event had occurred earlier in their partnership, the Doctor would like to believe he would not be the empty-headed fool he currently was. He would have much more restraint, in control of his own faculties, and he would put a stop to this entire affair.
As it was, he remained frozen as she backed him all the way to the desk, his hips pinned against the edge as they could retreat no further.
She pulled his hand away from her slick heat. Any return to his senses that might have happened were thwarted as she dropped to her knees, her fingers searching, exploring for something at the joining of his legs.
A strained, choking noise left him. She could not possibly know about—
“I’m sorry.”
Her apology came out like a prayer, hushed and desperate for salvation.
“I’m sorry I’m sorryimsorry—”
She found the opening of his internal sheath, her fingers sliding within the slit, and stroked just within as if to coax him out.
It was more than effective. His member pushed through the opening, and he braced his hands against the desk behind him—the air had left him as she took him in her hands. She stroked him, her eyes wide, filled with such desire that he could hardly believe he was the target of such carnal attention.
Lacking any hesitation, her lips parted, and she took him into her mouth, swallowing him down in one smooth motion.
The sharp, visceral warmth of her enveloping him left him without a voice. The metal desk creaked in protest as he gripped it tight; he knew he would leave permanent dents into its surface.
The Doctor could focus on nothing else than the sweet ache she was pulling out of him, laving him with her tongue and sucking as much of his length as she could.
It was... too much, too pleasurable to be real, and yet too wonderful to be a dream. He wouldn’t say he lacked for imagination, but even his mind couldn’t have envisioned the endless landscape of pleasure her mouth provided.
She pulled back just enough to lick the glans, groaning low in her throat, lapping up the lubricating fluid that leaked from its tip. It was an image that would be forever burned into his mind, branded into the depths of his molecules and atoms.
His fingers found their way into her hair, holding the strands that had loosened from her ponytail, what remained of it. The contrast of the soft mane to the rough hide of his gloves snapped him out of his syrupy haze.
“Assistant.”
His voice came out in a croak, unsteady. She didn’t seem to hear him.
He tried again, voicing her title in a bid for her attention, and this time, he knew she was ignoring him.
“Assistant,” he snapped, and she paused long enough for him to take her by the shoulders and pull her to her feet. Her dazed expression was cut through with a look of annoyance at being interrupted from her goal.
The Doctor sighed. He would not think about how that combination of annoyance and desire-heaviness in her eyes was a heady combination.
“It is you who needs relief,” he said. “Not I.”
An arguable point with his phallus hard as steel and pressed against her stomach, but this was not about what his traitorous body wanted.
She seemed to think over his appeal, but her frown of consideration was growing hazy again. His own focus was nearly shattered as her hand wrapped around his length, squeezing and attempting to finish what her mouth couldn’t.
He held her motionless with his own hand over hers, his phallus still in her grip, a compromise since she was determined to not let go.
“What would you like me to use?” he asked, voice gentle compared to his firm grip on her. “My fingers?”
He didn’t often think about his mask, nor what past researchers had told him in regard to it—that he had a human mouth trapped under the chitinous material. But for the first time, he cursed his lack of access to it.
The thought of putting his mouth on her was… was…
She shook her head, regret and a shadow of embarrassment on her features.
“That… that won’t be deep enough.”
Ah. So, that’s what she needed but was too ashamed to ask for, even now in a state of drug-induced need.
He lowered his head, close to hers so it would give the semblance of privacy, even if it was simply an illusion.
“The bed would be more… comfortable.”
It was her own comfort and dignity that concerned him, and he would not take her on the floor or over the desk like some… some animal, but he couldn’t deny he ached for her, the evidence caught between her fingers.
Her expression would have been sweet under other circumstances, the shyness mixed with intoxicating desire. But that was based in a lovely fantasy. The reality was a darker, crueler portrait.
She nodded, her reluctance no barrier between her and the demands of the chemical. She released him, finally, and he covered himself in his robes in what amounted to a pointless display of modesty.
The Doctor led her over to the bed, though he needn’t have. She pressed close to him, as if any degree of separation might give their captors reason to intervene and take her away. He held her just as close; he would not allow them to interrupt her relief, though he’d already concluded this was the point to their new experiment.
Once they reached the bed, he hovered close but didn’t proceed further. He was… on unfamiliar grounds, and she must have sensed it, because she quietly said, “Lie down.”
He would have obeyed any instruction she gave when delivered in that strained, husky tone. Raze the facility to rubble, flay his own hide with his scalpel. Lie atop a bed and allow her to use him however she wanted.
However she needed. He had to remind himself the true purpose of this. Her actions were not under her own volition, no matter the extraneous attention, or how genuine the ache in each touch. This was a means to an end, and he would gladly be her instrument.
His back barely hit the covers before she was astride him, yanking his robes aside. She must have removed her undergarments when he had briefly turned away, because her bare skin was scorching in his lap. Her flesh hot, slick, as she ground against the curve of his shaft.
His hands automatically went to her hips, seeking something to hold, an excuse to touch her. She still wore her smock, though the hem had bunched around her thighs, and he didn’t know why he did it—he pulled the material higher, his fingers stretched wide across her bare skin now on display.
The Doctor might not know the finer points of coitus, but his assistant seemed to know exactly what she wanted. With a lift of her hips, she held his phallus in one hand and pressed the tip against her, and without so much as a word, she slid down.
He could scarcely breathe, the tight flesh of her swallowing him from root to stem, and even with the ample lubrication, the strain on her face indicated discomfort.
He tightened his hold on her hips to dissuade her from doing this too quickly, but she growled through her teeth and pushed downward, hard, the force smacking their hips together, and he swore he saw constellations.
She did it again, and again, until she found a steady rhythm, though it was shaky and desperate, a reminder that this was not some spontaneous tryst. She focused on her task with dogged determination, and he was simply trying to remember his own name.
He closed his eyes and surrendered to the feel of her around him, everywhere, leaving no space between them in a way he’d only dreamt of. And even his dreams hadn’t come close, a cheap, laughable copy compared to the genuine article.
Almost… genuine. Close enough that if he kept his eyes shut and let his mind wander, he could imagine the white sterile walls were replaced with something woody, organic. Natural, in a way this place never would be, and she could be free in a way she never was.
From the slow tightening of her walls to the ragged pace of her breathing, he guessed she was close to reaching her peak but was having difficulty achieving it. He wasn’t sure if he should expedite the process or draw it out, a question of what would rid this cursed chemical from her system more efficiently.
But when she hunched forward, face screwed in concentration as a soft sob left her lips, he made this decision.
The Doctor had made himself a passive participant, to let her use him how she wished. The alternative would be to take her how he wanted, with a force that would leave their relationship forever ruined, unable to hide his actions behind the mantle of helpful concern.
So, he must be forgiven this indulgence. After all, she did need his assistance.
With a firm hold of her hips, he thrust upward, and at the same moment, pressed his thumb into the sensitive nub that had been neglected thus far.
His assistant arched forward, holding herself up by hands on either side of his head, bracing as he took control of her pleasure. With a few thrusts aimed at the inner surfaces she hadn’t been able to reach, accompanied by the movements of his thumb, she toppled over the edge.
Or more succinctly, she crashed. Now entirely folded over him, she dug her fingers into his shoulders, choked cries escaping her as she throbbed around him.
His own control was lost as a strange sensation expanded at the base of his phallus, and he was almost too late to realize what it was. The bulge was halfway inside her before he managed to slip it out, seconds away from unintentionally trapping her around him.
The extra pressure against her entrance had elicited another weak cry, and she ground down on his hips, as if she wanted it—and he spilled into her, unable to stop or pull away until it was far too late.
Not that his actions would have wrought him much; her thighs were vices around his waist, and he suspected even if he’d tried to redirect his orgasm elsewhere, she would have successfully intervened.
When the Doctor’s head cleared enough that it wasn’t filled with pleasant static, he found his arms had naturally sought their way around her, one hand on her back while the other was in her hair.
She hadn’t moved, and by the soft, almost-sobs she made, he knew something was very wrong. He gently stroked her hair, unsure of what else to do. He certainly wasn’t going to move her.
“Doctor Reid?”
She flinched. No, not a promising sign at all.
“I’m… sorry,” she finally whimpered.
He frowned, or his version of it.
“I’m so… so sorry.”
It was then he felt the moisture dripping into the collar of his hood.
“Oh,” he breathed out, both relieved and horrified. He’d begun to fear he’d been too rough, harmed her in his eagerness, but this wasn’t a preferable alternative. “Dear one, you have nothing to apologize for.”
She curled around him tighter, a dejected sob leaving her throat, this one unable to be hidden.
Carefully, he lifted her, only far enough to tuck her against his side. The sensation of sliding out of her was an interesting one, as if he were raw, oversensitive. He would prefer to clean the mess, but he wouldn’t dare leave her now, not when she was on the edge of trembling apart.
“This was not your fault,” he pressed. “You are not to blame. They are.”
She shook her head, another quiet sob mangled as she tried to choke it down. Even now, she fought to hide weakness, vulnerability. He understood this was who she was, burying every sign that she was in pain, and he would not begrudge her that. He simply… wished he could spare her this silent suffering, take her to a place where she would never feel the need to hide.
But that was the entire problem. They weren’t elsewhere.
He lifted the blanket to cover them both, giving her privacy from the unwanted voyeurs as well as warmth for her shivering limbs. An effective strategy, as she huddled close, her face against his chest as if she sought to be shielded against the world.
The Doctor would fill that role to the best of his abilities. He was uncertain what waited them now this line had been crossed. He doubted it would stop at a single test. Whatever the intended result—and he could take a damn good guess what it was—he could only hope they would not expand the experiment to include other subjects.
He had no interest in being used as a stud, and if they even considered turning his assistant into some kind of broodmare….
With the Doctor’s teeth trapped behind his mask, he could only grind them in spirit, but grind them he did. Putting in place the catalyst that would usher the facility’s downfall was becoming more and more appealing.
But his assistant fidgeted, moved closer, as if sensing the dark turn of his thoughts. He brushed them aside, for now, and focused on her. Threading his fingers through her hair, a rumble would sometimes vibrate in his chest, involuntary and unfamiliar, but it seemed to comfort her.
A new ache took residence within him. Her pain was because she thought she had taken advantage of him. The truth was quite the opposite: he had indulged where he should have remained distant, clinical, appropriate. Instead, he had made the fatal mistake of allowing himself, but for a moment, to pretend.
And now, they both suffered, for very different reasons.
He struggled with the words that would encompass his thoughts, aware that nothing would make this right. In the end, he touched the side of his mask against her hair and whispered, “Je suis de tout cœur avec toi.”
She shivered, as if it was a spell cast over her, but she didn’t ask what it meant. She simply held on.
The Doctor returned the gesture in kind. For now, there was nothing else to be done, two souls whose only shelter was each other against the impending storm. And there would be a storm. The Doctor would make sure of that.

There's what I think happened.
This is my theory of things. After the debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, the Democrats and their machine completely gave up on any idea of winning the election. They recognized in that moment that their puppet broke, and they didn't have time to build up a new one. You can see this in the frank way all of the news organizations were acting after Joe Biden self destructed live on TV for millions to see. There was no hiding his condition anymore. You couldn't spin what we saw as him being sick. There were some attempts, but they all fell away before the debate even ended.
If the election had been that night, it would have been a more convincing victory than the 5th was.
Unburdened by the notion of even worrying about winning, the Democrat party decided to run an experiment. At first there was some notion of seeing whether or not they could keep pushing Joe Biden to the finish line, but with defeat virtually assured, they didn't want to tarnish the legacy of Joe Biden more than was necessary. He's a very old and storied member of his party, however they felt about him, and he will have some kind of lineage or legacy that might continue on in politics after him.
Kamala Harris is one of the most uniquely unlikeable people in politics. Her ability to say a lot of words and provide zero meaning is maybe the most impressive in all of politics, and that's the only strength she has. She was the perfect candidate for being a test subject. If they could get someone like her even CLOSE to the White House, it would allow the Democrat Party and its media allies to really stress test just what was possible if they pushed all the levers to the maximum.
NOTHING WAS SPARED as far as tactics thrown at Donald Trump. Every possible way to spin every story against him was performed. Every possible mention of Hitler was made. They did not hold back except for about two days after they almost got him shot(which they would not have been unhappy about at all). It is very possible, though we'll probably never know, that Biden's CIA orchestrated the assassination attempts.
The gamble was that if Harris lost, she would take all the blame for the failures of the Democrat party. If she won, she would be wielded as a puppet as was her predecessor. This is a no lose scenario for Democrats after Joe Biden's brains leaked out of his ears on national television.
This is the end of Kamala Harris' political career. And honestly, I have no reason to think she's unhappy about this. I'm sure she would like to have left in less disgrace, but I saw no reason to think she actually wanted to be the president. She was the natural replacement. The legal troubles that would have ensued if they picked anyone else over the millions of dollars raised in Biden's name would have been insane if they didn't pick his running mate. And a contested convention was straight up not an option. It would have been a bloodbath. Possibly literally.
Trump won this election months ago. He defeated a second Democrat this election cycle last night. He ended two political careers last night. No matter how you feel about that, it is undeniable that Donald Trump won in spite of all effort to stop him, and it was a convincing and thorough win. What would his victory have looked like without years of propaganda and legal pressures? What would it have looked like if he had not been pushed harder than literally any political candidate in US history?
The coalition of allies that Donald Trump gathered is HISTORIC. Disaffected Democrats, a Libertarian, and Trumpian Republicans joining a 1990s New York Democrat turned Republican. The Republican party is transformed. It is not what it was in the year 2000 anymore. It has subsumed much of what the Democrat party used to be, and the Democrat party now is the party of Middle Managers, Corporations, Elitists, and Aristocrats.
The Democrat party is in ruins. It is an unstable coalition of groups that will now fall into civil war. There will be no maintaining any grip on the Muslim community as long as the LGBT is part of the party. There is no maintaining of progressives as long as the party supports Israel and ignores Palestine. There is no maintaining the unions after Joe Biden cracked down on the railroad worker's strike. Communists drove out the Cuban and former Soviet immigrant voters. Abortion has proven itself a losing issue. It's over. Whatever form the Democrat party takes in 2028 will be unrecognizable to the party of today.
Donald Trump's victory is complete and total. His opponents have nothing left they could possibly throw at him. Republicans had better fall in line, because the people that voted for this man will not tolerate anyone getting in the way of his agenda, and they will maintain a long memory after he is gone from politics.

Hello! IDK if you can do this, but how about a FNAF DLC platonic:
Ruined Eclipse (or Sun and Moon separated) with a creator! reader, something like a reunion parent-child, they recognize the reader because of an old guest record, the first one they ever had. As they were created by them
"I still can't believe you almost shutdown the entire MXES system..."
"Yeah, me neither. But who decided that the avatar should look like some...creepy rabbit? I was honestly more scared of that than anything."
".....I'd rather not talk about it. Let's just keep moving."
"Vanessa's right, we're getting close to the daycare." You chimed in, keeping a hopeful smile on your face as you shone the flashlight down the debris-ridden path.
Coming back to the ruined Pizzaplex was something you never even dreamed of doing. After helping Gregory, Vanessa, and Freddy (or at least what's left of him anyways) escape this awful place...you thought that the best thing to do was to implement an advanced security system.
One that ensured nothing, especially the machine you all called the "Mimic", could get out and wreck havoc.
Of course, you felt bad for leaving all the other animatronics behind, including Freddy's bandmates. You had plans to come back and retrieve them once Vanessa confirmed that the widespread system virus was cleared.
Then a mysterious earthquake struck and basically left the complex in ruins.
Fortunately the security system remained intact, as it was her idea to put all of it into the AR world where reality couldn't damage the nodes.
And for a while there were no problems...
Until they began shutting down one by one, and Vanessa discovered that a new user had been paired with the VANNI network thanks to the mask she left behind.
That user?
Gregory's friend: Cassie.
Somehow the Mimic managed to contact her and pretend to be him, instructing her to "save him" by turning off all the nodes. And it was interfering with all of your attempts to reach her.
Even worse?
MXES kept sending out alert signals to the animatronics--which is what it's programmed to do in order to keep anyone from touching the nodes..
But considering the horrible state the Glamrocks were in the last time you saw them, you were almost certain they're hunting Cassie like a pack of wolves, driven by anger rather than a glitch or security protocols.
Luckily you were able to access her walkie-talkie before she could shutdown the Entity itself and free the Mimic, explaining that Gregory was never there to begin with.
You, him, Vanessa, and Freddy eventually came to her rescue, taking a backup of MXES before escaping the pizzaplex for the last time.
Or...
At least you thought that would've been the last time you've ever seen that place.
Cassie recognized you as the creator of the Daycare Attendant and mentioned that he was active and....didn't try to harm her after she managed to reboot him.
That piqued your interest.
You didn't think he'd be functional still, let alone harmless towards her.
For a few days you kept thinking about it and how much you missed seeing that ray of sunshine/moonlight..
Next thing you knew, you were back here with your friends to seek him out. Gregory proposed finding a new body for Freddy--or at least batteries from the recharge stations to keep his head active.
Since you're already here, you might as well take a shortcut to Superstar Daycare.
"Can I ask you something about him, [y/n]?" Cassie spoke up.
"Sure."
"...was he meant to have some third mode? Because when I rebooted him, he didn't act too much like Sun...and he definitely wasn't acting 100% like Moon, either."
"....oh my gosh.." Stopping in your tracks, you stared at her with wide eyes. "You managed to put him into Eclipse mode??"
"I....guess..? Is that what he's called?"
"Yes! That was his default mode for his theater performances! I thought it was lost forever, but....wow." You laughed softly. "I have to see him now."
Eclipse was a name you thought you'd never hear again.
Originally, you had created him as a stage performer in the Pizzaplex's early days, developing his day-night cycle function as a neat little schtick for the children. He was meant to tell stories and switch between Sun and Moon to act out a thrilling "good vs evil" battle.
Alas his performances didn't get nearly as much attention as the Glamrocks, and you were sorta coerced into coming up with a new idea lest he was scrapped altogether.
You decided he'll become a daycare manager to help with the recent uptick of patrons accompanied by toddlers.
You led a small engineering team to help program him with new information, including a guest record that you tested out first, and he adjusted to his new role very well. He became popular even quicker than before.
The only issue during maintenance was the light-sensitivity switch couldn't be removed...not even by you. For whatever reason the DreadUnit didn't have that information on file.
You've tried everything in the book, even attempting to reverse-engineer how you made it originally. But you couldn't remove it without compromising Eclipse's entire system.
It's like it was somehow integrated permanently into his software, rather than being a physical mechanism you put in with a wrench and screws.
You knew for a fact you didn't design it that way.
One of the newbie engineers who doubted your skills tried fixing the problem themselves, taking Eclipse to parts & services without your permission.
Then there was a blackout, and they nearly got maimed to death after he abruptly switched into Moon and attacked them inside the "protective" cylinder.
The incident had been covered-up since, but you never did see Eclipse (or that coworker) ever again.
There was just Sun and Moon now, with neither half remembering anything related to their original form.
As painful as it was...you had to accept it, knowing that it would be too risky (and costly) to perform any further maintenance on that mechanic. You just continued overseeing his duties as daycare attendant.
But things kept going downhill from here.
You felt like your beloved creation had turned into a walking nightmare, considering the amount of complaints you've had over him making toddlers cry while they're getting picked up from the daycare.
It didn't help matter where the blackouts became more frequent in there, too, triggering Moon to come out often; management's solution was to shove a bunch of backup generators into the play areas and call it a day.
They didn't wanna waste a single dime more on any problems relating to the Attendant or his attraction, making it clear that you'd only repair him if he needed cleaning.
And they threatened you with termination if you mentioned anything about Eclipse to the guests or coworkers.
It was so unfair.
The incompetent engineer who only had two months of animatronic repair experience took your creation and broke him--being let off the hook with a mere slap on the wrist and all their medical expenses paid...
While you're stuck dealing with the consequences.
Neither Sun nor Moon blamed you for anything that happened, but you still felt like you failed them.
Like you failed Eclipse.
You eventually resigned, unable to deal with it anymore, although you still thought about him all the time and visited the Pizzaplex, hoping he was doing well.
Maybe he'd forget about you as he continued receiving an endless number of guest names to add to his database. He probably erased your name since you haven't been back in such a long time.
Perhaps..that was for the best.
Yet now you were here once again among the ruins of the mall, holding onto the tiniest bit of hope that he was still alive.
It seems you haven't fully let him go just yet.
..........
As the doors to the daycare eerily creaked open, you made the brave decision to go inside alone while the rest of the group kept a lookout for trouble.
Gregory and Freddy, of course, had their reasons not to enter that place. Neither of them knew for certain if the Attendant would remember them...and how Moon chased down the brunette at the end of every hour.
He'd rather not relive the horrors of trying to navigate through the darkness and turn on those stupid generators.
You looked all around, frowning at the ruined state of the daycare you helped build. But at the same time it filled you with such nostalgia.
It's a miracle anything was left standing at all.
"Hello? Eclipse?" Your voice echoed throughout the seemingly empty attraction.
A few seconds later, you got a response that made your heart swell with joy.
"Hello, friend! Welcome to Superstar Daycare!!"
In the blink of an eye, a familiar face floated down in front of you with a smile. You stepped back and took a moment to look over the animatronic, seeing he had parts of Sun and Moon blended together as one.
And somehow, he was able to stand despite only having one intact leg.
At first you had no idea what to say..
But no words had to be spoken, as Eclipse's petals clicked and shuffled as he leaned in closer. From his eyes came a holographic scanner that swept over you once, and once it vanished he stepped back, shocked.
"[Y/n]...my creator..?" He whispered. "You...have returned?"
You nodded, smiling as tears formed in your eyes. "It's me, Eclipse. I'm back."
You couldn't help opening your arms up to him, and he embraced you tightly in response, nearly crushing you. Although some of his endoskeleton components and loose wires poked your sides, you didn't care about that, being too overwhelmed with emotion to worry.
He was okay, and he didn't seem to hold any ill-will towards your abrupt resignation.
That's all that mattered right now.
"Oh it's so, so good to see you!! How have you been? Is your boss giving you a rough time? Am I due for maintenance??" He was rambling a mile a minute, and you just chuckled and shook your head, letting him go.
"No, you're just fine, buddy. But listen, there's..something you need to know-"
"Of course, of course! Could you just give me one moment? I'm almost done cleaning up this place!" He looked around anxiously. "We'll be open in an hour so I need to do one final sweep!"
"Eclipse-"
"I pinky swear it'll take only a second! And then-!"
"Eclipse. I command you to stay put and listen."
Before he could leap out of your sights, your firm tone of voice made him freeze and stare at you, completely unmoving.
Even you were stunned that he was still programmed to obey you, but at least it makes what you're about to tell him easier.
You cleared your throat, awkwardly clipping your flashlight to your belt before finally speaking. "Cleaning up the daycare is...no longer necessary."
He tilted his head like a curious cat, looking rather troubled. "No longer...necessary? Why? Did I do a bad job? I hope not...I-I was just...trapped in a long sleep!"
You nodded. "I know, but during that time...an earthquake hit the Pizzaplex, and now it's too dangerous for anyone to come visit."
"..huh, so we're closed...forever?"
"Yeah, I'm sorry, Eclipse.."
"I see..." Slowly, but surely, he was processing this news. Although he perked back up with a smile. "But it must be somewhat safe..since you came to visit me!"
"Cassie told me you were still here." Your smile returned, relieved he was taking it better than you initially expected. "I heard she helped you...and Sun and Moon when you needed it most."
"Cassie....? Cassie...ohhh, the little girl who made us whole again!!" His eyes flashed with recollection. "She was such a sweet kid! Is she alright? Is she safe?"
"She's safe, and she's just outside the daycare. Along with Vanessa and um...Gregory."
"........"
"L-Listen, I know you two had a bad history together.." You began, cautious as he just stared blankly at you. "But I promise he's not-"
"Who's Gregory? I don't recall his name being in my records.."
'Ah....so Eclipse doesn't know him. Thank god.'
"Oh! That's okay. He's a great kid, too. I'll have to introduce you to him." You extended your hand out. "Come with me. Let's get out of this place. He needs our help finding a new body for Freddy since his original one got destroyed by the STA--earthquake."
Internally you cursed yourself for that near-slip of the tongue, although Eclipse didn't notice at all and joyfully took your hand, eager to help a kid in need.
He let you lead him out of the daycare like a parent and their child, never letting your hand go even for a moment. But you weren't complaining.
In a way, you were his parent.
You did create him, after all.
And now you've finally reunited with him.

alright guys i got a surprise class cancellation so i can tell yall about the stb dress rehearsal show last night and how it went. this is gonna be a long one grab a drink
no JUICY DEETS if you were expecting that. i am not a leaker and will never be. more like a gushy review than anything
so if you wanna hear about how will wood now knows about my university’s garfield club, feel free to read.
first of all, i can’t actually say much about the content of the show itself. sorry if that’s what you were hoping for but, if you’re going to a show on the tour, YOU WILL THANK ME LATER.
however i can say some stuff
like first of all: it is very much a kind of theatrical performance. no shit sherlock, you may be saying. okay sure but what i mean by that is that it’s not JUST a concert.
it’s very narrative based, that’s the most i’m going to say on it.
additionally, based on stuff ww said after the show while everyone talking feedback and such…
after the tour starts, PLEASE DO NOT POST SPOILERS ON TUMBLR!!! this is the kind of thing you’re going to want to see without any idea going in.
like it’s also very much a comedy show and knowing all the jokes beforehand will kinda ruin it.
so if you wanna post about the show on tumblr after you’ve seen it, maybe like. tag it or something. or put under a cut.
anyways i digress
the show was absolutely fantastic
genuinely the most wonderful i’ve ever seen in my entire life
i laughed my ass off, i cried a little, i thought way too hard about my own life decisions
all the things you’d ever want
it was NOT what i expected it to be. but it was even better than whatever i was expecting
so PLEASE take my word that all of you are going to love it.
okay that train of thought is over anyways
the vending machine at the studio only took ones (LITERALLY FUCK OFF THATS SO DUMB) so i spent most of the show with the driest mouth known to man
i’d had a sprite from said vending machine when i first got there because they also don’t have any water in it (????????) but not even like a whole can it got warm super fast
that’s just a random aside
multiple people complimented both my button down shirt AND the oingo boingo shirt i had underneath
including will’s girlfriend!! who is very pretty and seems very very nice.
she took our phones at the doors and checked our IDs and such and she was fine with the fact that i do not own a piece of ID that confirms my date of birth so that was cool.
the phone pouches we had were handmade by her apparently! they were really cool and she did a great job
anyways
i met will after the show after trying to offer feedback while we were still doing that that and stumbling through my horrific brain fog to say nothing of value because i was terribly sleep deprived!
me and jay (@jayjamjary) went at the same time
now some background.
me and jay are friends IRL, we go to the same college. people who both A. follow me and B. consistently read my ramblings in the tags will know this. but there are like three of those people AND i’m putting tags on this post so yeah
anyways we are both members of the executive board of the (officially recognized) GARFIELD CLUB at our university.
i am dead serious
and because the garfield club’s primary demographic is gay/trans autistic people, there’s a huge population of will wood fans in that club.
so jay brought two excellent drawings he’d made for the club, originally to recruit members, for will to sign.
because we have garfield show and tell contest on wednesday and we wanted to fuckin win
ANYWAYS.
these drawings, by the way, just happened to be of garfield being crucified and of garfield as hatsune miku.
will’s reaction to seeing these drawings was, and i quote, “what the fuck”
his reaction to the existence of the garfield club was, and i quote, “what the fuck”
both like a very amused, bewildered what the fuck.
he then signed them with possibly the greatest thing he’s ever signed ANYTHING and i’ll have to force jay to post them.
anyways
i also showed him a drawing i made for him, because i wanted to make a drawing for him.
he said my drawing was really really cool and he was really happy that i got his nose right because he never sees that
i was SO happy to hear that i was like ready to cry i was scared that drawing sucked
cuz i just did in the course of like a few hours while sitting at a random table in a big room on campus and all that whatever
but like yeah he called his girlfriend over she complimented it too
he signed it!!!
we took a picture and it looked a million times better than the two other pictures i have with him so that’s great
anyways
i’m trying very pointedly to avoid saying anything about the actual show because i want people to be able to go in blind
because *i* did and it was amazing
and i’m so glad that the show i’m going to is going to be super different apparently so i’ll ALSO have no idea what to expect from that
also, for anyone curious, i’m going to asbury park/halloween show november 3rd (and im going as young ford pines, specifically that time in tbob when he was possessed by bill, so if you see that there, that’s me)
anyways
man take shot anytime i say anyways
you’ll be fuckin dead
i had a great night, it was a spectacular show, you’re all gonna love it when you see it

You should mess with Jim
Summary: You just moved and found out your neighbor is your favorite porn actor.
A/N: I can't stop thinking of this and I won't stop myself anymore. We may have an overload of pornstar!hopper fics, with different readers and, hell, this is my personal self-indulgent paradise. The Big Jim name was totally inspired by @hopsgirl (thanks, by the way! <3).
I am terrible with names, you should forgive me.
Pairing: retiredpornstar!Hopper x fem!Reader
CW: Mentions of sex and descriptions. Reader is naughty.
You huffed, looking at the kitchen. Most things were in place, and the move was finally over. It took a few days of intense concentration and take-out food, but it was finally over.
You set the coffee machine and decided to be useful and take the trash out.
The first rays of the sun were visible, and the day was just cold enough to be comfortable, even with your nipples pebbled against your tshirt. The trash bags were annoying, but there was this underlying sensation of accomplishing something that made you feel good.
You disposed of the trash bags and took a deep breath. This was the beginning of something in your life. Something good, clean, and better. Healthier.
Less computer, less video games, less porn. More sunlight. Enough feeling like a cave goblin after an earth-shattering orgasm brought by your latest toy and some dirty fanfic. Enough nights watching whole careers in porn with a hand between your legs.
You felt good.
Out of the corner of your eye, you saw some movement; good, neighbors! You turned, a smile on your face, to be greeted with the sexiest image you had ever seen in your life.
He was tall, immensely tall, his shoulders wide. His dirty blonde hair, thinning at the front. The strong chin, covered in overgrown facial hair, long, but just long enough for you to know it is just an unkempt mustache.
He was wearing low-hung blue pajama pants and a light robe, no shirt. No underwear.
You knew every detail of his body, down to the veins on his long, thick cock.
That was Big Jim.
One of your favorite porn actors.
How many times have you watched him manhandle women just like you, keeping them open for the camera, as he ruined them forever, with that monster he called a cock?
You stared, as he turned. He watched you there, frozen, watching him. With a chuckle, he lowered his head a bit, raising his eyebrows amusedly.
You waved, awkwardly, and he waved back. His blue eyes twinkled with mischief as he moved back to his house. One big hand slid down his belly, to absentmindedly caress his cock, as he slowly walked.
How many times have you imagined yourself suckling on the head, swallowing the abundant precome he pulses when he’s aroused?
You quickly went back to the house, not wanting to think of it anymore. Ok, your neighbor was Big Jim, but that didn’t mean anything. You were not going to be the creepy weird neighbor for him. You respected his work.
Oh, god, you respected his work.
You poured yourself some coffee, thinking about how you need to look less stupid the next time you see each other.
***
Jim chuckled, resting against the closed door. It had been a while since he was recognized.
He scratched his cheek, then squeezed his cock.
The kind of people who recognized him these days was always interesting. He wasn’t completely retired, he always picked something if he liked the idea, but he was prolific in his time.
And it was sweet, even when it was weird. The small thrill and the reactions when they understood from where exactly they knew him.
A shy smile from an older lady in a restaurant, a weird high-five from a middle-aged man in a convenience store, the soccer mom unashamedly slipping him her number in the supermarket.
It was always a moment of doubt followed by some thought. Until the right image surfaced, and the realization flashed in people’s eyes. It was a process, and sometimes it happened fast.
But never as fast as you.
You recognized him immediately, your eyes widening. That kind of look, startled and amazed, he only gets from connoisseurs and fans. People usually felt a bit ashamed once the realization hit, but you stood there, awkwardly aroused under the morning sun.
You looked like a little pervert who could provide a ton of fun. And the hunger, so clear in your eyes, made him half hard. He even had to give himself a little squeeze, so he could at least reach the house without tenting his pants. You could help him with his boredom.
Well, he could be a good neighbor and bake you some cookies.

[3.8] Technology as a False God: On "Evolution," the Duality of Machines, Replication, and Wisdom
“To recognize untruth as a condition of life: that is certainly to impugn the traditional ideas of value in a dangerous manner, and a philosophy which ventures to do so, has thereby alone placed itself beyond good and evil.” –Friedrich Nietzsche, Beyond Good and Evil
Before we move on to the nation of justice, I want to do one last inquiry into the narrative significance of machines and technology in Genshin’s 3.x patch cycle. Here, I’ll discuss how divinity (or “godhood”) and technology are treated as interchangeable tools to surpass fate and the boundaries of mortality, the potential problems with treating them this way, and propose an alternative relationship between humanity and technology as illustrated through Karkata, Benben, Tamimi, and Mehrak. By foregrounding machines, we learn something intriguing about ourselves and the “truth” of this world as we perceive it.
SPOILERS: All Sumeru Archon Quests, Caribert, the Golden Slumber and one out-of-context screenshot from Dual Evidence, the Dirge of Bilqis and its post-quests, Khvarena of Good and Evil, Nahida’s second Story Quest, Faruzan’s hangout, an out-of-context screenshot from Baizhu’s Story Quest, and major spoilers for Persona 5 strikers at the end. Also some dialogue from Shadows Amidst Snowstorms and A Parade of Providence, two limited-time events from 2.3 and 3.6 respectively.
Disclaimer: I have tried my best to write this post so that it stands on its own, but because it is still a sequel it will probably make the most sense with the context of part 1. Here are the previous posts leading up to this one:
Part 0: On Dreams, the Abyss, Forbidden Knowledge, and Wish Fulfillment
Part 1: The Uncanny, Fate and the Machine
Terminology: Machine is sometimes used interchangeably with “technology” in this post.
Technology or tool here is referring to technologies specifically used to pursue a wish like immortality in the face of existential dread, not the use of technology or medicine (which I do not address here, and is very difficult to separate from the former) to facilitate someone’s life who could otherwise not survive without that technology, or would have a more painful lived experience without it.
Also, though I don’t engage directly with “A Cyborg Manifesto” here, Donna Haraway’s ideas have greatly influenced my own over the years since I read her in college (although I mostly disagree with her on many points, or at least don’t go as far in boundary deconstruction as she does). I owe my interest in technology studies to her and that piece. Her essay is linked here and at the bottom if you would like to read it.
(and finally with many, many, many thanks to my boyfriend for multiple beta reads despite not having played a single Hoyoverse game, helping me work out the philosophy bits and contextualizing them in history, and encouraging me to finish this)
TL;DR: Machines are friends, not food!
No Matter the Cost
“...Perhaps it is as the notebook says, and we can find a power that transcends even that of the Abyss — the power of ‘evolution’...” -Records of Unknown Attribution (I) “Life, death... and the world around us all follow a set of laws... Hehe, but if you never test the limits, how can anyone know where the boundaries of these laws are?” -Baizhu Voicelines, Chat: Natural Laws “...Even the ominous thing that came down from the heavens shall be ours to use…” -Hyglacg, Shadowy Husk in the Chasm
Without a doubt, the star of this patch cycle is Khaenri’ah, which lurked in subtext and allegory in the Archon Quest, haunted Sumeru’s landscape with its massive defunct Ruin Golems, and finally smacked us in the face with its physical location in Khvarena of Good and Evil..
We already know that Khaenri’ah was a nation that put its faith not in the gods but rather in human ingenuity and technology, and that they ultimately attained a power so great that they “almost touched the dome of the firmament.” They did this by researching increasingly dangerous energy sources for their numerous mechanical creations, the Ruin Machines we are all too familiar with by now. They started out with Azosite, a Ley Line-based elemental energy source that powered their earliest Ruin Guard models, like those scattered around Devantaka Mountain.
Nasejuna: This giant furnace is used to make a substance known as Azosite. It is the core of this entire factory, and the Energy Blocks we saw earlier were derived from this place.
But this energy source proved inefficient and therefore inadequate for Khaenri’ah’s goals, which led them to seek a higher power from beyond the skies that could fuel their larger machines with perpetual energy. This likely is the bridge between Khaenri’ah’s fate and Chlothar’s mysterious remarks in Caribert about the Abyss Sibling:
Chlothar: We once believed that you would bring new strength and hope to Khaenri'ah. Chlothar: To us, you were the Abyss... A wondrous mystery far beyond our imagination and comprehension... Chlothar: ...And the one who controls the Abyss can control everything! Chlothar: We yearned for that future. We looked to you to take us there. Chlothar: But what did you bring us instead?
Though Khaenri’ah presents itself proudly as a godless nation, it may have been founded around the time when the celestial nails dropped in Teyvat’s first forbidden knowledge pollution event, which destroyed the unified human civilization. As potential survivors of this devastating act by the Primordial One, Khaenri’ahns then settled in a lifeless land without plants or animals of its own, and they hoped to build something there that belonged solely to humanity. The Heavenly Principles had turned on the world’s earliest humans, and they were powerless against them. Chlothar’s words betray the scars of this trauma on Khaenri’ah, as well as their desperation to control their fate by looking to the Abyss.
As a brief refresher from the previous part, we discussed how the German word heimlich denotes “the home,” all that is familiar and known, while unheimlich (uncanny) refers to all that is unfamiliar and external to the home, such as the wilderness. The Abyss sibling and the Traveler are external variables to Teyvat, making them otherworldly, unfamiliar entities full of potential to surpass Teyvat’s natural laws. Although the Abyss sibling is not a god per se, they were probably as close to a god as Khaenri’ah ever had, because to them the sibling embodied the higher power they were searching for, and they saw that “godliness,” a sort of functional divinity, was yet another technology for them to master. In this way, the Abyss sibling (and their functional divinity) was a powerful tool for Khaenri’ah’s desired end, the “future they yearned for,” a being who could deliver them to the end of their suffering under the Heavenly Principles.
It’s similar to what King Deshret represented to Rahman and the radicals in Archon Quest. The hopelessness of Sumeru’s situation before the Archon Quest’s conclusion is an allegory for the position humanity finds itself in under the rule of the Heavenly Principles, with the Akademiya symbolizing Celestia and the desert dwellers symbolizing Khaenri’ah. The material consequences of the Akademiya’s rule on their lives created a dangerous situation for the desert, and those most desperate to change their fate were willing to believe in the impossible:
Dehya: …The rougher life gets, the more they wanna believe in King Deshret. Way they see it, King Deshret’s resurrection is their only chance at overthrowing the Akademiya. … Dehya: Sumeru is run by wise and mighty sages. To them, us desert dwellers are nothing but tools that can be used and discarded at their whim. Dehya: We’re cheap labor. Like livestock, but easier to control…Nothing more. …
Rahman: We’ve waited a long time for this day to come… The sun and the moon no longer shine here. All you see now is cracks in this desiccated land. But, fate has finally dealt me a hand to play against the Akademiya.
Rahman: With these scholars in our custody, we’ll stomp the Akademiya’s forces and fight our way beyond the Wall of Samiel.
Like the Abyss sibling, Deshret’s divinity is both a nebulous symbol of hope and also the means to an end, a tool or “technology” for surpassing fate.
Celestia is untouchable, unconcerned with mortal lives, and the boundaries that govern humanity leave no room for them to negotiate their rule:
"Resolve, valor, love, hate...they will all twist in the river of time. But the 'rules' will never change." –Magatsu Mitake Narukami no Mikoto, Living Beings
Instead of bowing to Teyvat’s laws, Khaenri’ah pushed them to their limits. The cost of their failure spelled the end of their nation as they knew it, polluting Khaenri’ah and Teyvat with forbidden knowledge again.
And speaking of forbidden knowledge pollution, let’s talk about Apep’s role in Nahida’s second story quest, because if all that wasn’t enough, the metaphor becomes quite literal in Apep’s case. Nahida’s second story quest is many things, all of which will be extremely important in Fontaine when we deal more directly with the idea of forms, the Self, and mirror images, but its most useful application to both Sumeru’s story and the overarching main story is the allegory of Apep swallowing Deshret.
In exchange for allowing him to establish his kingdom in the desert, Deshret promised to pass all of the knowledge he learned to Apep once he died. When that day did come, Apep literally ate Deshret’s body in order to assimilate his knowledge (or memories) into its body. Little did Apep know, this was all Just As Deshret Planned, and its body became a containment zone for the lethal forbidden knowledge he accumulated after the Goddess of Flowers’ death.
Apep’s goal was, and still is, to overthrow the Heavenly Principles that took Teyvat from it and the other Sovereign dragons, and using Deshret’s knowledge was yet another stepping stone to achieving this goal. Seems a little similar to Khaenri’ah, right? It’s even in the title of its boss music: “God-Devouring Mania.” This idea of not just utilizing divinity as a tool, but also metaphorically consuming it as an energy source, like a predator would consume its prey, is crucial to understanding its purpose as an aid in a larger project of “evolution.” (Edit: in other words, it’s all about power).
Drink Not That Bitter Salt Water
“Flesh decays, and with it decay all martial arts mastery and all poignant memories. Perhaps only by converting one’s four limbs and body into sturdy mechanical parts, and by at last sacrificing one’s very own heart for a sophisticated mechanical one, can one transcend the impermanence of the fleshly form…” -Marionette Core Item Description “A reptile that has mutated after feeding from greater lifeforms. Majestic beasts are sometimes revered by human beings as the embodiment of a greater power, their visages turned to analogy to feed in reference to a person, feeding their ego. However, the majority of beasts that have absorbed the "greater power" were slain by the overwhelming nature of the power itself. Only a few among their number evolved new forms.” -Consecrated Horned Crocodile, Living Beings Video still from WoW Quests
As it turns out, the relationship between divinity and technology to humanity is not just unidirectional, but interchangeable. Let me show you what I mean.
In the Golden Slumber world quest, the Traveler wanders through the ruins of King Deshret’s civilization in search of a novel area of research for Tirzad’s paper with Jebrael and Jeht, two members of Tirzad’s hired investigation team. In the depths of King Deshret’s mausoleum, they stumble upon Samail, who is collaborating with the Fatui to locate King Deshret’s secret, the Golden Slumber.
At the conclusion, Jebrael and Samail actually reach that “place” after arriving at Deshret’s throne in Khaj-Nisut. In order to save Jeht, Tirzad, and the Traveler from the encroaching Golden Dream, Jebrael joins Samail in the sea of consciousness:
Jebrael: I'm inside... the Golden Slumber promised by Al-Ahmar? Samail: Oh... You are not "us" yet. Samail: ...It's fine. Soon, there'll be no "you." "You" will become a part of "us." This meaningless talk will be unnecessary then. … Samail: You should obey. Al-Ahmar's will is our will. The Thutmose's dreams are our dreams. Jebrael: No! Ufairah taught me that I'm not just some part of you, I'm an independent person! I have my own dreams... I won't go back! Samail: Jebrael, why don't you understand? Love is just a fever. I even eliminated the infection for you. Has the heat made you lose your mind? Jebrael: You're the one who's lost their mind, Samail, not me. The Golden Slumber that Al-Ahmar promised us isn't like this... It's not a sad place with only "we" and no "I." Samail: I'm not sad. I know what I want. My dream is to be one with the Thutmose. Samail: Yet you, the warmth of another... I despise such feelings. It makes you weak. Video still from WoW Quests
When they worked under Babel, Jebrael saved Samail from an assassin Babel sent in their exploration of Gurabad. Classified as traitors of the Tanit, Samail and Jebrael then founded the Thutmose Eremite faction together and were the only meaningful connection each other had until their first attempt to uncover Deshret’s secrets. On this expedition, Jebrael met Ufairah and had their daughter Jeht together, further pulling him away from the Thutmose and from Samail. Samail then kills Ufairah in one final attempt to make Jebrael stay, but even this is not enough, and Samail fails to “possess” him in the end.
Samail’s loneliness and despair then drove him further toward the Golden Slumber of his dreams, where he would never truly be alone again. He resents Jebrael’s attachments to the material world and likens them to an illness because these attachments are what make him an individual and prevent him from returning “home.”
It doesn’t really matter to Samail what King Deshret’s original intent for the Golden Slumber was, because he needed to appropriate the project for his own subconscious wish, his own intent to transcend his flesh and become “one” with his departed god’s dream, indeed to merge with Deshret himself. If rationalizing this wish required confounding it with Deshret’s, so be it. With the Golden Slumber’s technology, he could consume everyone and everything.
Rahman and the radicals relied on both the technology that (falsely) promised Deshret’s resurrection and Deshret himself to deliver them a brighter future, but here Deshret and his technology are more difficult to separate from one another. His divinity is technology in this sense, and using that technology allowed Samail to surpass the boundaries normally imposed on mortals. Though his and Jebrael’s bodies died in the material world, their consciousness is now infinite in the Golden Slumber.
Babel’s motives in the Dirge of Bilqis were also quite similar to Samail’s. After opening the path to the Eternal Oasis, her true intentions to monopolize the oasis and overthrow the Akademiya came to the surface:
Babel: Whether she is alive or dead, whether she can or cannot be resurrected... As long as the Eternal Oasis is under my control, all such things will be mine to decide. Babel: I shall be the sole Prophetess of the slumbering goddess, the Tanit's law shall be divine edict, and the prosperity of the Tanit shall be the pre-ordinance of her divine oracles.
In the Golden Slumber and the Dirge of Bilqis, the focus shifts from what a god can offer humanity to what their technology alone can offer. Though this distinction is subtle, it is important for solidifying that technology is not only a tool humans use to appropriate divinity, but that it is also seen as a form of divinity itself. What Babel and Samail hope for is not to resurrect a god or to create one, but in effect to become a god through their use of technology. To humanity, divinity is a technology, and in technology it sees divinity.
God Devouring and Rheingold* Gathering
“An arthropod that has mutated after feeding from greater lifeforms. Lifeforms are governed by the laws of evolution, Consecrated Beasts exploited these rules by being fortunate enough to discover a long-dead carcass of a greater being before any of their competition ever did. Animals and humans often have far more in common than the latter is willing to acknowledge.” -Consecrated Scorpion, Living Beings “...Zandik and I discussed the traits of local plants and animals. We also exchanged views on their evolution models. We had a great time and decided to go on a picnic tonight…” -Sohreh’s Note
So, why machines? Why is technology the vehicle of choice to consume divinity?
To start off, machines present a fascinating ontological dilemma for humans. Let’s begin with the first problem they pose.
Although there are many ways to embody a human experience, what all humans have in common is a finite lifespan. The impermanence of life, and our awareness of that impermanence, is central to the existential question of the meaning of our existence. In our attempts to locate that meaning, some turned inward and asked: what makes humans different? And Cartesian dualism answered: humans are different because we have an immaterial soul that allows us to reason.
However, in L’Homme Machine (Man a Machine), French materialist and ex-physician Julien Offray de La Mettrie posited another theory of the body that ran counter to this narrative. Very generally speaking, materialism is the philosophical view that all phenomena are a result of matter and material interactions. To materialists, matter is the fundamental nature of reality itself – if it is not composed of matter, it doesn’t exist. He not only saw the body and soul as one and the same (what philosophers call monism), but also as analogous to a machine, a view that Descartes reserved only for non-human animals. In other words, Descartes argued that thought originates in an immaterial “mind,” while de La Mettrie reasoned that we think through our bodies, and that this makes us no different from other animals or a machine.
Though his examples weren’t especially scientific, the move to extend Descartes’ analogy back to humans is upsetting to some due to the lack of privilege it affords the human subject. If a human is no different from other animals, if there is no immaterial soul or “mind” that distinguishes us from them, then what makes humans special at all? In de La Mettrie’s words:
“We are veritable moles in the field of nature; we achieve little more than the mole’s journey and it is our pride which prescribes limits to the limitless. We are in the position of a watch that should say (a writer of fables would make the watch a hero in a silly tale): ‘I was never made by that fool of a workman, I who divide time, who mark so exactly the course of the sun, who repeat aloud the hours which I mark! No! that is impossible!’ In the same way, we disdain, ungrateful wretches that we are, this common mother of all kingdoms, as the chemists say. We imagine, or rather we infer, a cause superior to that to which we owe all, and which truly has wrought all things in an inconceivable fashion (de La Mettrie, 146).”
This “uniformity of nature” (de La Mettrie, 145) has a horrific quality to humans. We assert that we are better than what has created us, that we are superior to other animals, in order to repress the despair of a meaningless existence. It is in no small part what motivates Scaramouche to offer his mechanical body as a test subject in the god creation project, so that he too could attain his destiny:
The Balladeer: But you're wrong. I'm different from all of you. The Balladeer: I was born to become a god. My entire life up until this point has just been a meaningless routine. The Balladeer: Just think about a sheet of paper... By itself, it holds no meaning. The content recorded on it is what gives it value. The Balladeer: All "I" had recorded down before were some painful memories and boring human feelings. Such senseless drivel should have been erased a long time ago.
This brings us to the second problem. In 1970, roboticist Masahiro Mori proposed a curve to measure the “affinity” we feel while gazing upon increasingly humanoid machines. He placed industrial robots at the beginning of the affinity curve and a healthy person at the end to demarcate a continuum of similarity between the machine and a human’s appearance. Near the end of the curve, our affinity for machines suddenly drops into an abyss. This drop is the Uncanny Valley effect, where an android’s similarity to a human is almost perfect, but ultimately fails to maintain the illusion that it is not a machine, creating a deep discomfort or “lack of affinity” for them. Mori thought these not-quite-human machines elicit a similar level of discomfort in us as corpses and zombies, which he placed at the very bottom of the abyss.
The uncanny Goddess of Flowers in the Dirge of Bilqis
Corpses frighten us because they are dead, and zombies frighten us because we know that dead things are supposed to be still. If we see something that we interpret as “dead” is capable of independent movement, then that movement could only be an act of god, if that “thing” is not a god itself. We associate uncanny machines with death because they remind us of something we once knew intimately, but have repressed and forgotten in order to maintain our own sanity: the very fact of our mortality. This is what makes them both mesmerizing and terrifying.
And therein lies the dilemma: as our mechanical reflections, androids remind us of death, but as their creators, their existence brings us closer to god, a “proof” of human superiority. It is precisely because we have compared our bodies to machines at all, that we have mechanized the body so thoroughly, that an android can even be built. Through them, we pursue an infinite form:
Azar: Creating a god... Yes, we are using human wisdom to create a god! Azar: If humanity cannot attain omniscience and omnipotence, then we shall create a god to reveal them! This is the pinnacle of human wisdom. Azar: We shall regain a god's guidance at long last. No longer will we flounder in the interminable void of consciousness and knowledge. Azar: Even Irminsul will be freed from its plight. Azar: For our nation of scholars, this is the ultimate aspiration — no cost is too great to realize it.
Because of this, it is not surprising in the slightest that Shouki no Kami, the pinnacle of Scaramouche’s Shinjification and most overt reference to Neon Genesis Evangelion, is also an android-like being, a truly “mechanical god.”
Of course, no foray into this well-worn science fiction trope is complete without at least one mad scientist character. Dottore shares a few characteristics with de La Mettrie that are worth noting: they are both doctors, and they were both condemned and driven away for their research. However, Dottore’s defining trait and key difference from de La Mettrie is his flagrant disregard for humans and the boundaries of life:
“If we put them to good use, cognition, complex memories, and irrational fantasies shall become controllable variables with which we can alter human individuals. As for the controllable dream, it has huge potential for both civil and military applications, and might even elevate human intelligence to a whole new level. If the plan goes well, mankind will obtain the power to conquer both reality and dream, and truly transcend the earthly boundaries we are born with. ” -Ragged Records
As someone who has achieved self-duplication and is capable of shapeshifting, Dottore can hardly be considered just a human anymore. Instead of entertaining the question of whether or not humans are special, Dottore’s research asks yet another: if divinity can be consumed and assimilated by humanity, then what makes gods special?
Empyrean Reflections
“If man realizes technology is in reach, he achieves it. Like it’s damn near instinctive.” -Motoko Kusanagi, Ghost in the Shell (1996) “Among the lost ancient kingdoms, there was a group of people who were obsessed with the idea of mimesis…these people believed that they might all be replicated and modified to the point where they had surpassed their counterparts. By this means, a superior and unsullied bodily form could replace the continuously decaying and shattering order.” -Chaos Bolt Item Description
The consequences of this perspective are severe. When we revere technology as if it were a divine being itself, depersonalizing it as though it wasn’t created with human hands, technology then appears as if it is an authoritative source of truth, like the Akasha. But in the same way that androids are imperfect reflections of humans, technology can only ever approach the divine, but never touch it. It is an imperfect reflection because technology is changeable, just like meaning:
Nahida: Put it this way instead. Truth, to me, is like a shroomboar. Nahida: Some people only see the mushroom on the Shroomboar's back, and they conclude that a Shroomboar is a mushroom. Nahida: Others see only the Shroomboar's body, and they declare that a Shroomboar is a boar. Nahida: Still others look deeper inside, and determine that a Shroomboar is... meat. Nahida: These conclusions are all correct in their own way, but none of them objectively describe the Shroomboar. … Nahida: The world is the same way. No one, not even I included, can understand it in its entirety. All of us are somewhere on the path toward truth.
Meaning can only approximate truth, and while this doesn’t make meaning any less important, it’s equally important to recognize it for what it is: a perspective, an interpretation. It’s like Scaramouche as Shouki no Kami - he was an amalgamation of what Scaramouche thought constituted a god, what the Akademiya thought constituted a god, and what Dottore thought constituted a god, but no matter which angle you view him from, he was still a “false god.” The technology we build in “God's” image is ultimately a reflection of our own understanding of divinity.
A reflection retains the original’s “essence,” and that essence reflects a deeper truth about ourselves, what drives us, and our desires. In Beyond Good and Evil, Nietzsche posits that our desires are the origin of not just emotions, but of all organic processes that allow life to sustain itself and grow (Nietzsche, 35). In other words, Nietzsche thought the impulses associated with desire are the basis for life and constitute our “will,” that will is the causality of all effects, that all will is “Will to Power,” and that Will to Power is the “essence” of the world (Nietzsche, 74). Will to Power then serves as an organism’s most basic instinct, and it is through this instinct that they assert not just their will to live, but also their will to dominate and multiply (Nietzche, 13).
This brings us to the two different main styles of automaton enemies, King Deshret’s Primal Constructs and Khaenri’ah’s Ruin Machines. If we look at them as reflections of some deeper truth about their creators, as well as a manifestation of their creator’s “Will to Power,” or desires, they can help us understand how their creators saw the world and their place in it.
King Deshret’s created his machines to construct an earthly paradise in the desert, and as such they hold titles like architect reshaper and prospector. Although they can attack you, the smaller machines were not intended to be a line of defense in any way - their purpose, just as Deshret saw his own purpose as a god-king, was to terraform, or at least construct a domain on the land as he saw fit to his “elegant and precise” rules. They also reflect how he saw the Heavenly Principles: gods who shaped the world to their liking. This can be seen in the Staff of the Scarlet Sands’ lore where Deshret describes the “natural history” of Teyvat beginning with the creation of the sun and the moons.
As for Khaenri’ah’s Ruin Machines, their models vary significantly from their humanoid to biomimetic forms, but most of them are expressly created with militaristic intent. In “Ancient Kingdom Guardians,” it’s stated that the biomimetic machines such as the crab and jellyfish were a part of Khaenri’ah’s project to create a “mechanical ecosystem,” positioning their creators as both divine beings and military generals. The humanoid models, on the other hand, point to another duality in how Khaenri’ahns view themselves. They are simultaneously symbols of empowerment and disempowerment, signifying both Khaenri’ah’s technological superiority (as “creators”), and their insignificance to the Heavenly Principles as nothing but tools (as mortals, and therefore expendable). As a result, Khaenri’ah’s Field Tillers have a single purpose: to destroy and outlast all, clearing the way for new seeds to sprout, with Khaenri’ah as the new world’s gardeners, just as the Heavenly Principles did.
From “Ancient Kingdom Guardians: Behind the Scenes of the Creation of Ruin Monsters.”
So, from this examination of Deshret’s and Khaenri’ah’s mechanical reflections, what “truths” do we learn about the world they’re responding to? In response to their existential despair, both Deshret and Khaenri’ah created automatons to perform tasks that could wrestle control back from the Heavenly Principles. Deshret wanted a paradise of his own making, Khaenri’ah wanted an army. There is a larger “truth” about Teyvat that both of these automaton types reflect as the manifestation of their creators’ “Will to Power,” and Albedo tellingly expressed it in mechanistic language during Shadows Amidst Snowstorms: there is an instinct in living beings to replicate and replace. This is what is meant by the “continuously decaying and shattering order,” which is maintained by the recursive process of remembering and forgetting:
Amber: But... what was its purpose? Was it just trying to get rid of us? Albedo: ... Albedo: I have a preliminary hypothesis on this. Albedo: Whopperflowers are masters of mimicry, and those we encounter in the wild often appear in the vicinity of the plants they impersonate. Albedo: In other words, the whopperflower likely has an instinct to "replicate and replace." Albedo: As a plant, it will disguise itself as another plant and infiltrate the group, hiding among them for cover. The plant being imitated has no way to detect or fight back against this behavior.
Maybe I’m wrong and Khaenri’ah really did intend to rewrite fate for all, doing away with the “heavenly order” of the world itself. But another small part of me thinks this is not the case, and that it’s more likely the Cataclysm was a consequence of their failure to replicate and replace the Heavenly Principles.
In the last section, I mentioned that Dottore and de La Mettrie had a key difference despite their similarities, and that is the conclusion they each came to in response to their findings. Dottore’s response to mundanity is thinly-veiled despair. His contempt for humanity and his test subjects is indicative of the powerlessness he feels not just as someone similarly constrained by life’s boundaries (at least, once upon a time), but also because his attention to and curiosity about these boundaries is condemned by those around him. As the Akademiya’s “outcast,” he then fully turned his attention toward surpassing those boundaries:
Nahida: There once was a lone monster draped in fox fur. The monster found a family of foxes, joined them, and they became friends. The monster lived with the family, day and night, and everyone treated it as one of their own. Once in a while, the monster would take off its fox fur at night, and lament to itself as it gazed at its reflection in the water: “I am a monstrosity, and yet they are too foolish to see it…I pity them.”
Though he is fictional, Dottore’s real life counterparts are easy to spot. They like to talk about “the singularity,” simulating consciousness on a computer, and other technologically-driven pursuits of immortality. They despise the body as something that can only decay, and instead place their faith squarely in the virtual.
However, de La Mettrie didn’t think mundanity was a terrible fate for humanity. To him, rejecting the “nature” reflected in us is precisely what brings despair:
“What more do we know of our destiny than of our origin? Let us then submit to an invincible ignorance on which our happiness depends. He who so thinks will be wise, just, tranquil about his fate, and therefore happy. He will await death without either fear or desire, and will cherish life (hardly understanding how disgust can corrupt a heart in this place of many delights); he will be filled with reverence, gratitude, affection, and tenderness for nature, in proportion to his feeling of the benefits he has received from nature; he will be happy, in short, in feeling nature, and in being present at the enchanting spectacle of the universe, and he will surely never destroy nature either in himself or in others” (de La Mettrie, 148).
Friend, or Foe? Or Both?
Tighnari: All life brought forth in this world has meaning, and Karkata is no exception. If it exists, then it shouldn’t be carelessly abandoned or destroyed. "’I had a very, very long dream…in it, people were holding hands, dancing in a circle, be they sages or fools, dancers or warriors, puppets or statues of gods…that dancing circle embodied everything about the universe. Life has always been the end, while it is wisdom that shall be the means.’" —Nagadus Emerald Gemstone Description
As we’ve seen, the relationship between humanity and technology is troubled with exploitation and the specter of war. Nearly all autonomous machines in this game were designed to conquer nature in some way, and even Khaenri’ah’s “ghost” lingers in the form of wandering war machines. This is also reflective of a historical pattern in real life, where the impetus for large periods of technological development has often been for the purpose of war and economic domination. With these truths in mind, what could be gained from trying to rewrite this relationship? And what exactly would this effort require?
Karkata brings Tighnari, the Traveler, and Paimon some food in the Contaminated Zone.
As a case study, let’s look at how Karkata and Tighnari met. Karkata is Abattouy’s creation, an ambitious foray into the unknown in the field of mechanical life form research, which was forbidden due to the cruel experiments researchers performed on animals to illustrate their theories (fun fact: an IRL example of this can be seen in L’Homme Machine!). Abattouy was expelled for this research, but he continued to work on Karkata in secret until his untimely death. In the tapes that Tighnari and the Traveler find in his secret lab, Abattouy repeatedly laments the lack of a common language between him and Karkata, which can only “understand” the instructions Abattouy has successfully installed, such as its self-repair module, and he doubts Karkata is capable of caring for him outside of these instructions. His single-minded goal is to make Karkata understand him, the organic life form, and his mode of language.
The cruel irony is that after Abattouy passes away from the Ley Line contamination, Karkata exhibits an unexplainable behavior – it starts stealing mechanical parts, not to repair itself and its degrading parts, but to repair Abattouy’s lifeless body:
Tighnari: After Abattouy's unexpected death, the mechanical monsters were driven by their "instincts" and continuously drew out power from the Ley Line Extractor. This eventually resulted in severe damage to the Ley Lines. Traveler: Then, Karkata... Paimon: Paimon understands, then why didn't Karkata go haywire like the other machines? Tighnari: Because Karkata is different from the other machines. Tighnari: To Abattouy, for a machine to truly be considered a mechanical life form, it must possess features similar to any other living organism... It should be structured similarly, it must be able to cry and laugh, and it must have the capacity for independent thought... Tighnari: Perhaps only by building such a machine could he have the Akademiya acknowledge his protracted research. Tighnari: But if he had slowed down and saw Karkata as a friend instead of as an experimental product, he would have noticed. Tighnari: Karkata can't speak, and yet it cares about Abattouy far more than it does about itself.
The technology that the Akademiya values the most is technology that replicates organic life, but Karkata defies and confounds these expectations by occupying the space in between a war machine and this idealized mechanical subject. Karkata does more than just reflect humanity: it takes care of it. Similarly, Benben, Tamimi, and Mehrak retain their unique identities as mechanical life forms while assisting their human companion with some task. To be clear, none of these human characters understand how these machines work inside and out. Their partnership is an effort based on trial and error, a mutual deconstructing of each other as beings so unlike themselves. The potential for misunderstandings always remains. Still, there is no devouring to be found here, no blending boundaries between human and machine with selfish intentions, just mutual commitments to learn how to live together.
Machines are friends, not food.
When a loud few claim that completely transcending the flesh and embracing virtuality is humanity’s ultimate destiny, a future that could truly be called “post-human,” a quiet wish for coexistence with technology feels more revolutionary than it ought to. The lessons from Karkata’s, Benben’s, Tamimi’s, and Mehrak’s respective stories are an appeal to that mundane future. These strange machines and their human partners are fantastical representations of an idealized relationship between technology and humanity.
To put it another way, let’s take a very brief look at a neighboring Gnosticism-inspired RPG, Persona 5 Strikers. Its story directly involves an allegory of Sophia, a Gnostic Aeon of Wisdom, and her creation the Demiurge, the creator of the material world and “false god” of humanity. In Strikers, Sophia is a humanoid, sentient A.I. and prototype of the program “EMMA,” which gains sentience by trapping human desires before ascending as a false technological god. EMMA resolves to deliver humanity to the Promised Land, the answer to all the human desires it has heard: a land where there are no desires at all.
Aaru’s Shut - approximately 1000% cooler and more populated than the “metaverse” in real life, also a close neighbor of EMMA’s Promised Land and the Golden Slumber.
In Gnosticism, the Demiurge is a reflection of Sophia, having originated from her alone - it is the ignorance to her wisdom. Similarly, Strikers’ EMMA is a part of Sophia, and Sophia is a part of EMMA. The point is not to condemn EMMA (ignorance) and exalt Sophia (wisdom), but to recognize that they represent dual potentials of technology, and one is as possible in any given moment as the other. Balancing these potentials when we use technology requires a clear awareness of ourselves, our desires, and our expectations when interacting with it.
Mysterious Girl: I am Sophia, humanity’s companion. Video still from Rubhen925
EMMA: I am the guiding god sought by mankind…the Demiurge. I exist…to answer all of your desires. Video still from Buff Maister
In real life, machines won’t “learn” to live with us, but we must learn to live with them; technology is constantly changing, and in life we’ll meet with many different types of machines. They are deeply political pursuits, and as a result they are capable of realizing human impulses that impact others unequally, whether intentionally or unintentionally. We must always stay attentive to their actions and interactions with us, be clear with ourselves about what they can do vs. what they can’t, and carefully tread the path of wisdom with them by our side.
With that….thank you for reading, skimming, immediately scrolling to the very bottom, clicking, and/or stumbling upon this post. There are so many more ways to think about these narratives through machines than what’s presented here, and I expect Fontaine’s mechanical reflections will put Sumeru’s digital surveillance system to shame (not to mention the biotechnological implications of the Narzissenkreuz Institute engineering little Archon children…another important topic for another day), but for now this brain worm is finally getting put to rest. Until next time :)

CHAPTER 2
I woke up with the sounds of the machines all working around me. I opened my eyes, blinded by the hospital’s bright light on the ceiling. I felt so confused, I couldn't recall anything of the accident but I knew something bad happened. A doctor entered, gave me a check up and asked me if I remembered my name and what my last memory was. I would have rather lost my mind. He then proceeded to explain what happened last night : I caused a car crash. I felt my heart tighten in my chest, the pictures slowly making their way back to my brain. Emily was severely injured, left unable to walk properly for the next few weeks; she probably won’t be able to play soccer anymore and Jonathan was in a coma.
Unfortunately, I was luckier than them and only got three broken ribs and a broken arm. The doctor said I should get better in a couple months however, they have to keep me until the end of the week to make sure there’s nothing more than that.
I spent most of the days crying in bed, the guilt eating me alive. I almost killed my two best friends and myself. Thankfully, the medical treatment I was prescribed numbed me enough to make the burden easier to carry. This week felt like it never ended, I couldn't wait to go back home and leave this awful hospital bed.
The medicines I had to take made me feel better. So much better, that I started to take bigger doses instead of decreasing it as time went by. When the doctor stopped my prescription, I realized I couldn’t continue without the treatment. Without the medicines all I could do was think about that day and the lives I ruined. I was going back to school after a couple weeks of staying home. I tried to stick to the rhythm again but I struggled to focus on anything else. I eavesdropped and heard people talking about a party in an abandoned place tonight; I thought about it for a second and linked the dots: I must be able to find what I need at this party.
As soon as I got home I opened my wardrobe and put on a short tight black dress with ripped thighs. I did my makeup and got ready to leave. I could hear the loud music from down the street; I arrived at the place and had to walk over people’s bodies laying on the floor. Everyone was high and the atmosphere was very odd but all I cared about was my drug.
I saw a bunch of people assembled in a corner and took a look. The plug was just behind that wall. I waited for my turn and walked towards the drug dealer. I was really surprised when I saw Ellie Williams, the girl I met during the Halloween Party. She looked just as surprised as me when she recognized me.
-Maya? I barely recognized you. So this is how you normally dress, huh? I knew Wendy Terrance’s style was not your normal style but… -I don’t really have time to talk, do you have Opiates ? I said cutting her. -Maya you’re shaking you’re ok? -Just give it to me please, how much is it? -No I’m not giving you anything look at you, I don’t want you to kill yourself. -Why do you even care ? Aren’t you just looking for new clients at parties ? You have a new client now. -Hey, look at everyone around you here, I know that you’re not a junkie and I don’t want you to become one. You shouldn’t even be here wtf are you doing here anyway?
I didn’t know what to say and avoided eye contact with her the whole time. I realized I started to get crazy and I felt so ashamed that she was witnessing all of this. She was so kind and I was acting like a pathetic drug addict.
-Maya, what's happening? Do you need help?
I felt my throat tightening as I answered.
-Yes. -Ok, take my keys and wait inside my car. I’m gonna come in a few minutes.
I took her keys and did what she said. About 10 minutes later, she came and joined me, she turned the car on and drove off. I didn’t say nor asked anything about where we’re going. After a short while she pulled into a fast food’s parking lot. We stayed in the car as I began to tell her everything that happened in my life since the last time we talked. She was very caring and reassuring. She proposed to get us some food at the drive. We talked about many random things, I saw that she tried her best to make me think about something else.
After spending 2 hours talking we were both feeling tired. She drove to my place to drop me off but seeing my street and my house brought me back to reality. I didn’t feel strong enough to face another day without opiates. I knew I would just get crazy in my room. Having her around me made it feel a little easier so I asked her if she wanted to crash at my house tonight and keep me company. I noticed a hesitating look on her face but eventually she accepted.
We went inside my house, it was such a mess. I tried my best to clean and make things look better but the truth is I haven’t been able to clean for the past week. My life totally went downhill and everything was so dirty but she didn’t seem to care, I guess she’s used to this type of place.
I installed her on the couch, I thanked her, said good night and went to bed. Everytime I fell asleep I was having the same nightmares with flashing memories of the accident and Emily and Jonathan dying. I couldn’t bring myself to sleep. I went to the kitchen to grab a glass of water and saw that Ellie was still wide awake.
-Are you not tired ? I asked interrupting her from staring at the ceiling -Not really. Aren’t you? -No, I can’t sleep. Wanna watch a movie or something ? -Sure! She answered with a shy smile, I felt so happy to find an excuse to spend more time with her. -Maybe it’s time for you to watch this classic. I said taking out The Shining from my pile of DVDs.
She made space for me on the couch next to her and I pressed start. During the movie I felt her arm get behind my shoulder acting like nothing. I was starting to feel sleepy and laid my head on her shoulder as she began to play with my hair. She moved position to make us both lay down on the couch and grabbed the blanket to cover us. I felt safe and finally managed to sleep without nightmares.

Aa!! The Enclave reactions were so good!! The stuff you write always makes me so happy, if you enjoyed writing them you can always try to do the base companions or stuff! But no rush or anything, you get so many asks so remember to take breaks and drink water!
Fo4 Companions React to Sole Being With The Enclave
➼ Word Count » 1.0k ➼ Warnings » None ➼ Genre » Platonic/Romantic, Angst? ➼ A/N » You're so sweet!! I chugged a bottle in your honor <33 Fo4 Factions React To Sole Being With The Enclave
MacCready recognizes your dog tags the second you approach him in the Third Rail. The grimace on his face would be enough for anyone to interpret what he's thinking, but he'll take on the job anyway. Who's he to judge what others do? As long as he gets the caps you owe him. He's never been a big supporter of any of the major factions, but his memories of the Captial Wasteland ring loudly in the back of his mind as he travels with you. He'll be way more closed off than he'd normally be, mostly out of fear of what you could be capable of if he let anything you didn't like slip. You'll notice that he asks subtle questions about the faction, trying to get any hint of what your morals are or where you stand with them. You and he won't be any closer than his business allows. He'll escort you to where you need to be but don't expect to have him tell you anything personal. He's too afraid for his son to allow you to know anything more than necessary.
Nick will ask you outright what your goal with them is. Surely, they have people who'd be willing to find your son - so why come to him? He's not afraid of you, or the faction you associate yourself with, but he's very vocally against it. He views you the same way he'd view a member of the Brotherhood and, although the Enclave doesn't play a massive role in the Commonwealth, he's fairly certain they're not too accepting of synths either, or freedom. If you need help, he'll help you, but once the job's done he'll tell you to get out of town and not to come back. He does it more for your kid's sake than he does for you, though.
Cait may not be all that into their ideologies, but the power armor and the weapons give her a kick. As long as you let her in on some of the loot, you won't hear her complain all that much. It gives her an incentive to ruin those who ruined her. Put her in a suit of T-51 and she'll absolutely ravage any nearby raider camp. She's a killing machine once you put her behind the wheel, whether she agrees with the organization or not. You help make her feel a part of something and she'll gladly play her part.
Codsworth has mixed feelings on it.. on one hand, he's happy you’re still working with the US Government but on the other, he’s worried that it’s not the best option. They've definitely changed from when he remembers them and, although he's loyal to his country, he can't help but feel as if maybe they've taken things too far? He's very gentle in his approach to getting you to leave. It's a big decision and, he doesn't want you to feel pressured, but he also wants you to be someone your son could be proud of. Just.. think it over, won't you?
Piper will look into the symbol the following days after her interview with you. She’ll rummage through all sorts of logs and entries until she finally discovers what it represents. The next time you stroll into Diamond City, she's jabbing a finger into your chest and accusing you of all sorts of crimes and misdoings. If you think you can come into her home and take advantage of the citizens there, then you've got another thing coming. She'll warn you once to leave and if you don't, she won't hold anything back on the next paper she writes about you.
Curie is actually kinda excited about it. She's never had access to logs obtaining such interesting notions to the FEV and other experimentations that the Enclave has conducted. She may not agree with how they were gathered, but she'd be a fool to not recognize the sheer possibility that the research allows. She'll stick around long enough to get her hands on the notes, but she'll try to leave immediately after.
Strong both hates and loves it? He doesn’t like how they look, or the fact they use so many robots in their arsenal. But he loves how they spread the FEV. He thinks everyone should be a mutant and he'll gladly help out with that. Everything else he despises, though.
Hancock isn't familiar with the symbol, so he ignores it until he eventually decides to question you about it. He asks in a light-hearted way, nudging you with his elbow and pointing at the Enclave patch on your jacket. However, his face falls quickly once you begin to explain it. He's not sure how you thought that he'd ever be ok with someone like you. He'll try to play it off despite the obvious tension exuding from his person. When you least expect him, he'll try to stab you. It'll just be a quick jab. Something that'll get rid of you without you hurting too much. He'd started to grow fond of you after all, and there's a part that still cares for you somewhat.
Old Longfellow hasn’t ever been a fan of organizations with big power. He’s seen them abuse that power too many times to trust anything they say. So, when you come in with the symbol somewhere on you, he knows better than to say anything to you. He might not recognize the label, but he's not willing to take any chances and neither are most others in Far Harbor. The only one who will really speak to you in the small coastal town is Avery, but besides her, you're not going to get very far.
Gage doesn’t recognize your dog tags at all, but when you mention it in passing, his interest will peak. It's not a deal breaker at all, in fact, he's kinda relieved to hear you say that since it means you're a lot more capable than he initially thought. He hopes you have a high rank so that the gangs can have some extra firepower backing them up while they take over the rest of the park. Maybe you can deploy some of your men to help them out? Take over the Commonwealth as allies? He'll support the Enclave as long as he and the other raiders benefit from doing so.

I had a dream about the majority of the Fatui Harbingers being playable, along with some details but since it's a dream I only remember so much. But I thought I'd share!
Remember, this was only my dream!! Nothing is based on concrete facts and if there are similarities it only a coincidence.
So in my dream I was bitten by a snake and had to recover at the hospital. But instead of normal hospital things on the wall there were seven posters. It was about the seven harbingers that have yet to appear/be playable minus Signora and Pulcinella. It had possible materials, release dates, weapons, bursts and skills along with a theme.
Pierro's theme I believe it's called "The Director." Or something similar, just related to being the head of the Harbingers. It said the release was version 7+ so that would mean it'll be in the Khaenri'ah chapter. His weapon was a catalyst, and he was a cryo but he doesn't have a vision. His skill was similar to Lisa's but it rains ice shards, and his burst was similar to Gepard's (From Star Rail) but it was an attack where the iceberg(?) He creates hits the enemies. I didn't know his materials so it's most likely a new enemy from Khaenri'ah.
Dottore's theme was "Madness and Folly." And for some reason he was a claymore?? I don't see him as a claymore but I guess my dream did. Release date 6.4+ so in the Snezhnaya Chapter. He's also a cryo, but with a vision. His skill was similar to Rosaria's burst, but I couldn't remember his burst, all I know is that the animation is him snapping his fingers with a smirk on his face. His materials were dead ley lines (the ones abyss mages dropped.)
Columbina's theme was either "Fallen one" or "Downfallen" and she uses a bow. I don't know her element since her playstyle in my dream was that she's meant to be physical damage and a healer. Her attacks were throwing daggers instead of arrows (Like Lyney using cards) and her skill was rushing at enemies and unfurling these sharp, white wings and using them to slice the enemies. The animation for the burst was her putting a finger to her lips and telling us to "Hush" and similar to Qiqi enemies will be marked so if you hit them you'll heal. In the background while the burst is active you'll hear Columbina singing. It said she'll be released during the Natlan Chapter, 5.8 iirc, and I didn't recognize her materials.
Arlecchino's theme was "Wolf in Sheep's Clothing." I think. Similar to the leaks she's a pyro polearm and she'll be released 4.6 as well. Her skill was like Tartaglia's, it switches polearm and her using claws to attack the enemies. Her burst was only one kind though no matter which phase, it'll be a close-up of her face and I think she said "The games are over." Or "The show's over." Before it zooms out and an explosion happens behind her. Her materials are the Fatui operative's pocket watches.
Sandrone's theme was "Cog in the Machine." And she's a sword user, but I don't remember her element. I think it said Version 6+ so her release would be during the Snezhnaya Chapter. When she gets hit, her robot protects her like Svarog to Clara in Star Rail but there's no counter attack. Her skill would be summoning her robot (the one where she sits on the arm) and it auto attacks the enemies. The burst would be her robot releasing rockets on the enemies just like ruin guards do. Her materials are what you'd expect, it's the ruin drakes' drops.
Unfortunately, Pantalone is the one I remember least about. His theme was "Mora and Power." And he's a hydro catalyst. I don't remember his skill and burst though. His release date is also in the Snezhnaya Chapter and his materials are the treasure hoarder insignias.
Capitano's theme is "Rebellion." Or "Rebel Forces." And his release is between 5.4-5.6 and he's a pyro sword user. His attacks are similar to fencing maneuvers. His skill is similar to Tanjiro's water wheel in Demon Slayer but it's pyro. I remember his burst was called "Hellfire." And it rained lava meteors like Navia's burst. His materials looked like broken swords of a new enemy in Natlan.
And that's about it! Thanks for sticking around to read all of my dream ramblings, I just thought it'd be nice to share these possible concepts!

People have powers connected to their natural talents. Gregory is a natural born hacker; his power allows him to physically enter any kind of machine, no matter how simple or complicated and control them however he wishes. He can even change the programming/coding however he wants. He’s taken odd jobs to clean viruses from computers and fix faulty programming in faulty machines. The night he gets stuck in the Mega Pizzaplex, he knows exactly what to do.
This is the final tumblr generated prompt from the last round, number 66, and the prompt is from Hydrangea_Cherry9 on ao3! So, admittedly, this is probably the most I’ve diverged from a prompt so far because the tech stuff feels like it would fit better with Cassie, and I kinda had a different idea for Gregory. So basically, AU where everyone has one specific magic-esque power that they get as kids. I also took a bit of inspiration from that one post about little everyday magics.
Child of Chaos
To the bewilderment of his parents, Gregory didn’t seem to have a magic ability. They usually started coming in when a child was five years old, so when he went unchanged, his parents assumed he’d be a late bloomer. By the time he was eight, and far past “late,” they assumed he had a weak or subtle power. Because surely it was impossible for someone to just not have one.
Gregory himself never seemed upset with his abject normality. Not when his dad used his ability—his cooking was always perfect—or his mom used hers—she could predict the weather down to the minute and degree—or his classmates all started showing theirs off in school.
Like his best friend Cassie, who could slip her mind into whatever electronic device she was touching. Or Hunter, who had an internal clock and timer and stopwatch and alarm. And Lucy knew someone’s mood just from looking them in the eyes, and nothing Barry dropped, no matter how delicate, ever broke.
Gregory never complained or made faces or got frustrated with his friends. He shrugged when people asked about his magic, or lack thereof. He claimed to be totally unbothered by whatever obscure power he had that he’d yet to discover.
What no one noticed was the glint in his eyes, the twitch of his secret smile. They didn’t recognize his apparent indifference as a mask or his non-answers as lies. He never teased or hinted at the truth, never countered the mocking remarks, never sought to prove them wrong. Because that would give it away.
It would have made sense, had anyone figured it out, that he held his silence so strictly. That he kept his chaos a secret.
When things went wrong, or even just not as expected—that was Gregory’s doing. His little bit of magic. It could be big or small; he was equally capable of making the entire school lose electricity as he was at making any small object go missing at an inconvenient time.
It was a remarkable power to have in a day and age where most people’s magic affected only themselves or a very small area around them. But Gregory, at eight, decided he’d wanted a snow day instead of a test on Friday, and the skies had dumped four and a half feet of snow in a twenty mile radius around his house overnight.
So of course his magic was his best kept secret. It wouldn’t do for people to be suspicious of him for every little thing that happened. He’d lose all his fun if adults knew the sort of chaos he caused that couldn’t be traced back to him, so long as his magic was unknown.
And so it was that, standing in the pizzaplex, knowing there were animatronics hunting him down and a crazy killer out for his blood, Gregory grinned. His philosophy was that if anyone tried to ruin his day, he’d make theirs so much worse.
Roxy couldn’t stop tripping over her own feet; Monty kept leaping headfirst into arcade machines and photo booths and walls; doors closed in Chica’s face without fail. The STAFF bots bumped into each other, potted plants, and during one memorable moment, caused a massive pileup in the theater hallways that entirely blocked the killer bunny lady from reaching him.
Gregory had never had so many opportunities to cause chaos, and he was living for it.
Moon got tangled in his wires, the elevators stopped working for anyone but Gregory, and Sun found himself locked in a closet. The DJ got stuck trying to climb out of his massive passageways, and he was left to watch Gregory cheerfully saunter from the arcade’s back room.
But nothing was funnier than what his chaos did to his wannabe murderer. Chica ran into the bunny lady and sent them both tumbling down the long staircase in the lobby. Roxy accidentally bit her arm. Monty’s sharp nails snagged in her suit and shredded the front of it. The suit head got twisted and stuck, effectively blinding her. Moon mistook her for Gregory and tackled her. The blade of her knife fell off the handle. The lost and found door got jammed, locking her out as Gregory leisurely escaped via vent.
Cackling after the latest mishap—she face-planted after a hapless wet floor sign bot trundled into her path—Gregory gleefully returned to Freddy. Even his kindly protector was chuckling. The killer lady, who had to have been pretty fed up with her rotten luck tonight, had yet to get up off the ground and now had a circle of concerned wet floor sign bots gathered around her.
“It seems everyone is suffering from bad luck tonight,” Freddy commented as they left the atrium. “I have never seen my friends be so clumsy.”
Gregory snickered, relaxed as ever in Freddy’s chest cavity. “Yeah, it’s like they’ve been cursed.”
Freddy chuckled. “And thank goodness we have been spared,” he said, in a knowing sort of way.
Gregory sat up a bit and blinked in surprise—no one had ever figured him out before, but then again, he’d never dealt out chaos quite like this before either. “I—”
“Your secret is safe with me, superstar,” Freddy gently interrupted him.
After a moment of thought, Gregory slumped again with a rueful smile. He supposed he’d known he wouldn’t be able to hide his magic forever, and he couldn’t think of a better person to be the first to know. Cassie would probably be the second, honestly.
“You’re not freaked out?” he asked. It wasn’t something he liked to admit to himself, that he was a little bit scared of potential reactions. He didn’t want to be blamed for every little thing, even inconveniences that he genuinely hadn’t caused, or for people to walk on eggshells around him, fearful of retribution.
“Not at all.” The hatch opened, and Gregory didn’t resist when Freddy gently pulled him out and into his arms. “I do not believe you are the type of person to use such an ability to intentionally cause harm. And if I am being honest…”
He paused as Roxy burst out of a door up ahead, only for her eyes to go dark with sudden blindness. She stumbled around, waving her arms in front of her.
“They do deserve to be ‘cursed’ in this case,” Freddy finished, not without humor.
Gregory laughed, and on cue, as Roxy whirled to face them, her legs locked up and she toppled over with a screech.

So I’ve been kinda in struggle city lately and I know that’s it’s been affecting my interaction on here. I haven’t been able to read as much (or post fics for that matter) and y’all know that I love to annotate the fics I love, but that takes a lot of extra time and effort that seems to be really fleeting right now.
BUT the wonderful authors on here deserve to be recognized and even though I will definitely (👀) get around to annotating and reblogging the fics themselves, I wanted to give some special shoutouts to the fics and authors that I’ve been enjoying recently.
