There are plenty of shows I don't watch because I'm just not interested. But on the other hand, there are also a lot of shows I don't watch because I know I'd get way too into them, and I just don't have the time

Sorry if I missed some lore! But is "Killie" pronounced like "Silly", because it's from Cillian? Please say this grumpy delight is generally known as Silly!
No, I’m so sorry, it isn’t! Don’t worry! So many written languages would see “Cill” and go for a “sill” pronunciation, as in Priscilla. His nickname has an anglicised spelling because you couldn’t expect anyone to approach Cilly or Cillie without context and get it right.
However, Cillian is an Irish name, and is pronounced something like KILL-ee-yan.

Calling him Silly Ian causes him to make this face. It’s fine. It’s fine. It’s - just Killie, though, if - if you don’t mind.
Edit: I’ve just found this pronunciation guide while googling omg

I love it that with Stargate, counting how many times a character has died is a matter of semantics

this is something i have been thinking about basically since i got back into fandom and it feels especially relevant right now with some of the posts i've seen floating around
something that's very common to hear in fandom is "there's no ______ explanation for this" (fill in the blank with straight, normal, platonic, non-sexual, etc) and i get it, we're all guilty of it, i do it all the time, i think it's part of the fun of fandom is having a space to go insane about something and that's fine!
but i think it's also really really important to remember that there is literally endless ways to interpret something because no two human beings are the same, and the same thing can mean different things to different people
let's use me as an example. in my last relationship with my ex, we would regularly tell each other that we loved each other and wanted to spend our lives together and in that context, it was a very romantic sentiment. however, in my current relationship, we tell each other constantly that we love each other and we want to spend our lives together and there's not a single ounce of romanticism in either of us, because neither of us want or express romance to each other. most of my friends are convinced we're boyfriend/girlfriend, because to them our relationship WOULD be dating, but that doesn't mean we are
the same can be said about fandom. you can take a scene that is VERY romance heavy and one person might genuinely see that as a sexual expression, and someone else might genuinely see it as a platonic expression, and someone else might genuinely see it as a hateful expression, and i think it's really really important to remember that all of these takes are valid.
there's no one right or wrong way to interact with fandom (unless you're deliberately being harmful and hateful towards the characters and the community at large but that's a different topic of conversation) and i think people get really hung up on their takes and headcanons and forget that there's always going to be endless ways of interpreting fiction and that other interpretations are just as valid.
and this isn't to say you can't go insane about your blorbos or ships and you can't say they're obviously in love or whatever, because that's half the fun of fandom!! i just really wish people would realize that, no, there are actually multiple ways to view that scene or relationship and that's entirely valid

When writing chapter 7 of my bucktommy goes to Pegasus fic, I accidentally wrote this, a dramatic telling of how the Wraith came to be. It did not fit with the chapter, it doesn’t fit with the fic. I don’t know what happened but rather than leave it in my notes, here it is 👍🏻
History of Atlantis and the Pegasus Galaxy
Millions of years ago, there was a great plague in the Milky Way Galaxy that decimated the Alteran and human populations. Despite their best efforts, the Alterans couldn’t cure it, they couldn’t fight it. In desperation, they took their city ship, Atlantis, and left for the Pegasus Galaxy and a new life. Over time, their population grew again, so they built and created, sprinkling stargates across this new galaxy and seeding habitable worlds with humans as they had once done in the Milky Way Galaxy. They would begin again and grow strong. And for millions of years, they did just that. They built new city ships to house their people and great cruising ships for exploration. They studied the new worlds around them and made even more advancements in science and art. They studied the universe, how it came to be, and where it was going. If only they had more time, they thought. If only we weren’t constrained by these bodies and could truly see everything.
The Alterans, in their quest to know everything, became obsessed with advancing beyond the physical body, with ascension. Ascension would allow them to rise to a higher level of existence, beyond the body, beyond its aging and frailty. All their efforts of creation now went toward how to achieve ascension, how to leave their physical body behind and become beings of pure energy, not bound by time or space. This obsession caused them to make deadly mistakes.
Their first such mistake was made by experimenting on the iratus bug, an insect roughly the size of a crab that “ate” the energy of living things, mostly animals. The Alterans discovered that if the iratus fed sufficiently, it would live indefinitely. What if they were able to harness that ability? It could give them enough time to figure out ascension. But, instead of discovering how to extend their lifetimes, they instead created a being called the Wraith. A mix of an insect and a human, the Wraith, like the iratus, fed off of life energy, but their “food” was humans. The Alterans were horrified at what they had done, but as advanced as they were as a society, their answer to fear was to ignore the scary thing or to run away. Maybe if they had realized in time what would ultimately happen, or acted quickly to eliminate the experiment, it would have made a difference. But, as with all advanced societies, decisions aren’t made quickly and the Wraith reproduced like insects in what seemed like no time at all, and started to overtake the galaxy. The Wraith were now creating their own societies and culture, bug-like, and their queens were creating alliances to allow individual hives to work together. Above all else, though, they ate.
Now the only thing standing between the Wraith and their total control of the galaxy was the Alterans. And though there were members of the Alterans who fought back and went to war with their creations, their leaders believed there could be a better way, an easier, faster way. In another attempt to fix or slow down a problem so that they could focus on their obsession, the Alterans created replicators, self-sustained AI-driven nanobots designed to fight and destroy the Wraith. But, the replicators evolved too rapidly and desired a life of their own, independent of their given identity of a weapon. The Alterans decided that the Replicators could not be controlled and destroyed the planet where the Replicators, now calling themselves Asurans, were beginning to create their own home and society. Some Asurans survived, however, and retreated from their makers to start over elsewhere.
After 100 years of attempting to destroy the Wraith and losing more and more people, to ascension and to this war they created, the remaining Alterans sink their first and last city ship beneath the waves of their claimed home, Lantea, and retreat through the stargate back to Earth. They abandon the galaxy they seeded with human life, the peoples that saw them as gods and ran away. Again.
The Wraith, in turn, cull the humans scattered across the galaxy for food like cattle, never allowing any one society to grow so advanced that it might be able to fight back, destroying any population that grows too large. As the humans repopulate, the Wraith hibernate and wait. The humans in Pegasus live like this for more than 10,000 years, knowing that their lives or the lives of their loved ones will be taken at any moment, that they are but food to the monsters that come from above and their gods have abandoned them.

Was there ever a consistent, canon answer as to how the Goa’uld reproduce?? In “Cure,” it appears that queens can reproduce asexually without a mate. But Goa’ulds have relationships when they’re in human hosts and also have kids, so how tf does that work? Was it explained in an episode that I missed?
Also, I believe it was mentioned in a Tok’ra episode that the symbiotes don’t have a set sex or gender, so are they hermaphrodites like sea slugs and can mate with anyone?
If there was never a consistent canon answer, is there a common fanon answer to this question?

1) Three non-romantic duos: Hmmm...brotps I adore would be Jack and Daniel (SG-1), Sam and Daniel (SG-1), and Lune and Matsen (Jade Torch -- is it cheating to use my own book??? xD) If that's cheating, then Sam and Frodo (LotR).
2) A ship that might surprise others: I kinda ship Link x Mipha from BOTW. I like Zelda x Link too, but something about Link x Mipha is just so sweet and tragic. I like that they knew each other for a lot longer than Zelda and Link knew each other.
Let's be real. I don't have a lot of crazy ships. Although, in SG-1, I do ship Vala x Tomin (but I also like Vala x Daniel).
3) Last Song: Shackleton by Adam Young
4) Last Film: My parents and I watched Hitched for the Holidays last night. Very funny romcom with Joey Lawrence. It's a Hallmark movie from 2012, so just before they all got so unbelievably cookie cutter/copy+paste with their plots.
5) Currently reading: Operation Grendel by Daniel Schwabauer
6) Currently watching: The X-Files. I'm nearing the end of season 1. I've never seen it before, and I'm loving it!
7) Currently consuming: Coffee
8) currently craving: idk. I don't have a strong craving for anything right now.

#i am in a massive stargate phase right now#i almost put john and rodney as the third brotp but i wanted to include something non stargate#and seriously. i am enjoying the x-files SO MUCH!!!!!!!!#the alien episodes are my favorite and i wish there were more of those and fewer of the ghost/spirit ones#but oh well#and can i say? mulder and scully's dynamic is perfection#not just how they trust each other or tease each other but how they physically behave with one another#the acting choices seem very deliberate#mulder wears his heart on his sleeve and i am living for that#and he's big on touch. not in a creepy way at all#but he's constantly putting his hand on her shoulder or gently placing his hand on her back to steer her#so much of it is 100% unnecessary for the scene so it feels like very deliberate acting choice regarding the character#and it doesn't phase scully a bit#even in the first few episodes when they've only known each other a few months or less she has no issue with how familiar mulder acts#again. i need to emphasize---it never comes across as creepy just really cute and tender#i really really like how she is SO TINY compared to him and i think his physicality and protectiveness is emphasized by that#but at the same time he knows she's fully capable#he seems protective of her but not in a demeaning way. not overprotective. just lots of chivalry and honor#that's something that seems totally lost in media today: men who want to protect women just because that's what they should be doing#and women who let them#too many women get bent out of shape when men try to be gentlemen#women have tried to wipe out chivalry and then they turn around and complain about toxic masculinity 🙄#but mulder is a wonderful gentleman and i love watching him and scully#tagged#sorry for going off in the tags but i've been wanting to rave about this stuff for a few days now xD

it's pretty ridiculous when you've only been watching shows that all have the same person in them, and then you watch something else and keep thinking 'okay but when is he gonna show up though? 🤔' only to realise oh. wait. he's not in every show.

You know what else upsets me? I’m in season 6 of SG-1 so I just watched the episode where Daniel ascended. And I understand that his being written out had a reason and also the way they did it I don’t feel like it was undermined when he does eventually return so like yes I miss him but not angry about it(also it helps that I really like Jonas but anyway not the point I’m making right now). But while they think he’s dying, each of the team members gets a moment with him to say how much they love him and how much he means to them. And then even though he hasn’t actually died, we see them mourn him even going into season 6. And I understand the situations were different but I feel like Carson really didn’t get the memorialization he deserved. Like sure we get to see Elizabeth say some nice words at his memorial and then there’s the end moment with Rodney but then it’s just kind of…over. And don’t even get me started on how angry clone Carson makes me. Like ‘oh here’s your beloved doctor back sort of but not really.’ I am honestly so heated over this.
