Here's the thing about Ted Lasso.

There would have been absolutely nothing wrong with the decision to have Ted and Rebecca remain friends had the writers shifted/changed how they approached Ted and Rebecca's relationship.

But they didn't.

Even while insisting that Ted and Rebecca were "friends" they continued to write Ted and Rebecca as two individuals who are very much not just friends, but instead, are two individuals who are connected to such a degree (I mean c'mon, the worst days of both their lived being September 13?) that they literally cannot be anything but soulmates.

Even during the TedBecca droughts, they writing still very much took a path that made it more than clear that they were not the best versions of themselves when they were apart, that left a palpable tension as everyone wondered "when will Ted and Rebecca find their way back to each other"?

I mean, come on... some of the final moments between Ted and Rebecca involved a scene that was very much written with the intention of wanting the audience to believe they slept together, a scene where Rebecca literally asks Ted to stay and then when he says no, decides to leave as well, and the quintessential RomCom scene of a meet-cute in the airport with Rebecca sobbing in Ted's arms...

If the writer's wanted us to believe that Ted and Rebecca shouldn't be together, then they shouldn't have written them as two individuals that should definitely be together.

i think some people (me, I'm talking about me) forget that Azula is only 14 years old.

it’s also baffling to me that tumblr, home of the ‘why are white men Still being cast as the doctor’ for So many years now (For you know, like over a decade.) is somehow not appalled that they hired a white dude to be the next Doctor because look okay it’s okay if it’s This white man.��

I mean, I do not consent to acknowledge that they’ve shoved him in there under any circumstance, but my Only need for the casting of the next person was that it was Not a white man, otherwise i didn’t care who it was, so when they “announced” Gatwa I was satisfied (i am hesitant to say they announced it bc it was more like a tiny footnote than an announcement, oh the disrespect) and it took a whole seven days (it was literally seven days. Yes i counted. it was easy since it was only seven days) it was ‘actually sorry no it’s this white dude we’ve already had before did we forget to mention that???’ and it’s steadily gotten worse and worse. 

That This site of all places is not up in arms about both the situation and how it specifically played out is depressing, but also massively and darkly hilarious.  

Especially since i Also remember nobody on this site thought casting Whittaker was good enough but literally going backward to a previous white man is?? This is not even a metaphor about diversity getting worse, they literally looked backwards. 

But, yeah,  tenn/ant with the ‘what the future looks like’ headline is uh... Good???? Not super worrying and ominous? 

I feel like i’ve been dumped in some weird parallel universe by reactions to all of this on here like??? the whole way this was done was appalling, the situation is appalling, but i guess the bbc/disney should get a rousing round of applause for accurately judging that nobody would care about their poor actions if the specific white guy they cast was popular enough that next to nobody would care. 

( and to the ‘it’s an anniversary ep’ thing, they legit could have just set a couple of eps in the past. i don’t mean they travel to the past. i mean just say ‘hey this ep is set during s4!’ and nobody would care. this show does weirder stuff than this every second episode. and it would still be bad, but how they did it is so much Worse.)

I'm sure that this has already been noted, but is Rogue a Timelord?

Rogue and the Doctor are equated to one another a lot. Some of this could be just two people finding similar interests to encourage fondness, thereby driving the romance plot. Both are troublesome and both like Kylie Minogue. The Doctor does seem like a more experienced or emotionally healthy (or "post-therapy") person trying to get someone more shy or less experienced out of their shell.

But it's more that that. There's the obvious in the name: Rogue sounds very Timelord of a name. But there's also the framing of when they introduce themselves to each other. Rogue is interrogated as as much a name as "the Doctor" is a name.

There's also the obvious time-travel in a ship that can be cloaked with a central console that makes it look a little like a retro-TARDIS. Others also have pointed out that 15's offer to Rogue to argue "across the stars" sounds a lot like the offer 10 gave to undead Simm!Master.

Retro-TARDIS. Time travel capabilities. Apparent 20th-21st centuries Earth-focus, with the fondness for Kylie Minogue. Apparent recognition of 14/10's face on Rogue's part, and we know now that faces can reappear, so that doesn't necessarily root any possible acquaintanceship at any point in either of their timelines.

Now, I'm not saying that Rogue is the Master. I think there's something even funnier.

There's something that nags me about how the Monster fandom discusses Bonaparta: how his thematic importance is almost ignored/overlooked and all that remains is "was he the real monster all along?/he was the real monster/he was in charge of an eugenics project etc." which is horribly reductive, esp. for a piece of fiction that is so nuanced.

I wish things like, for example, his mixed background (a German born in Czechoslovakia; think about the occupation of Czechoslovakia and the expulsion of Germans from Czechoslovakia) and how it interacts with the eugenics project were discussed more broadly, because it's a fascinating and important part of the story. And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

When you consider that msm2 started production sometime late in 2019, then in 2020 covid happened + they needed to churn out Miles Morales for the ps5 launch while they were working on Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart which released in spring 2021, then the whole "feels a little undercooked" vibe of the game starts to make sense.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sony was pushing a deadline onto them to release the game as soon as possible. Even though the devs were claiming they would stop working on the game when they were sure it was ready to launch. I call bs, this is the AAA gaming industry we're talking about, and Sony is a huge corporation. And I won't be surprised if a Jason Schreier article containing horror stories about the working conditions from the devs will come out in the next upcoming weeks/months (or not. we'll see. It happened with Naughty Dog but people convienently forgot)
