AI (Love) Story Idea?

So the concept of "how will we know when we've made something that feels and not just pretends to feel" kinda gave me an idea for a love story?

Like, a team of scientists are building an AI, with the goal of making something that is truly conscious, truly sapient. At some point the ai 'falls in love' with one of the scientists, and the scientist soon start to love the AI back, though they aren't sure if they should because they don't completely know if this is a machine pretending to be in love, or a real intelligent being that genuinely loves them.

So they battle with the knowledge that this could just be a thoughtless computer that's just telling them what they want to hear and the real emotions they feel towards the ai.

Meanwhile, the AI has to convince them that it is a real consciousness and not just some mindless parrot.

Or make it a mystery and have the viewer also not know if the AI is conscious or not? This is really just the dumb idea of a tired brain but I actually want to attempt to write this. It sounds like an amazing idea, but I don't know, does this actually sound cool? Like would anyone read this?
