✨Haikyu Headcanon(s) of the Evening! ✨
Author's Note: These are just lil' roomate headcanons I came up with cause I just wanted some so I decided to make some! Anyways this is a part 1 out of 2 (I think and hopefully) and as always I hope y'all enjoy! 😊 ~Pidge
Tumblr media
Miya Atsumu:
• God this chaotic bastard where do I even start
• Well let's just say you were looking for a roomate and stuff and welp he took the opportunity and idk why but you accepted him (I guess he checked all the boxes for you congrats🎉🎉🎉)
• Now actually LIVING with him can either be a pain in the ass or quite enjoyable
• He gets up at a decent time, early for volleyball (maybe 7-8am) but SLEEPS IN when he doesn't have to go. (I believe like 2-3pm at times) one time you thought he was dead and almost called the hospital, he almost smacked you for that 🤣
• I see him as not being the apartment that often cause of volleyball but he'll be in the apartment just to chill or just to annoy ur ass if he's bored.
• HE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE DESINGNATED MOVIE NIGHTS!!! he also might invite ya know bo, hinata and sakusa but there's sometimes where he just wants to chill with u~
• I believe he's not really a good cook and you would have to make most of the meals or at least remind him to have a decent meal once in a while (if your not a good cook welp... y'all will suffer together I guess)
• He'd be snacking CONSTANTLY I👏SWEAR👏 (This is why ya gotta remind him to have decent meals all the time). I mean there will be nothing in your pantry. It's a literal compition that he wins most of the time to who gets the last packet of pocky. Smh 😑
• I feel like his room would be half messy and half not? Like there would be clothes on the floor but he would make sure to make his bed and his dresser would be a bit messy but not too messy. (Ya know? I hope you get it cause I'm not changing it)
• Please give this man the head pats before volleyball practices (he'll find it cute and if you look close enough you might see him ~blushing~)
Tumblr media
Bokuto Koutorou:
• YES ITS TIME FOR MY FAVORITE HIMBO!!! god I LOVE him
• Such a caring man AND WITH SO MUCH RESPECT WHAT DID WE DO TO DESERVE HIMMM
• anyways
• I hope y'all were friends before you decided to move in together PLEASE SAY YOU WERE (well too bad, I'm the writer, you got no choice in the matter)
• He takes afternoon naps... end of headcanons (no but really when u come back from school or work and he's home before you, you can sometimes hear a soft snore from the couch and you just decide to put a blanket on top of himmm)
• On the contrary of Atsumu, I think he'll be a great cook! I think he'll know how to make 3-4 meals very VERY well and present them to you and be so proud of them. He'll puff out his chest and everything (gosh he's making me so proud just writing this)
• He might once in a while ask you politely if his friends can come over and might borrow the apartment for a while (you'll be out till they leave but hopefully you don't mind)
• If he comes home and he's in his emo mode, you either 1. Call Akaashi or 2. Make him soup and build a blanket fort (it will either be chicken noodle or just some comforting soup... anything to get this baby happy again 😊😊😊)
• This may or might catch you off guard (depending on how close y'all get) but he may ask for random hugs. Just for the sake of it and because I believe he's touch starved and craves physical affection.
• Even tho I said before that he might politely kick you out if he wants to have the home/apartment for the bois, at least PLEASE have some games of chaotic Jenga with them like COME ON (I play chaotic Jenga with my friends all the time and hoooo boi)
• Like Atsumu, he deserves the head pats too! I believe there will be a lot of physical touch/affection in your relationship and it's just so sweet! GAH Y'ALL ARE ADORABLE!
• Anyway, Bokuto Koturou would make a great roomate... MOVING ON
EDIT: Damn I forgot to add that he'll probably join in if you decide to paint your nails. Alright now let's continue!
Tumblr media
Sakusa Kiyoomi:
• ngl idk how you became roomates with him but congrats 👌👌👌(I guess by pure chance I guess??? ) anyways...
• Y'all would have assigned cleaning chores of course. If you're having a bad day or not feeling good, he wouldn't mind doing your chores for you and taking care of you.
• Ya know I feel like just doing a puzzle with him so y'all might have some puzzle nights and try to challenge yourselfs after each one you complete.
• LOVES TEA. Will recommend tea and different types of tea to you. Will bring different types of authentic teas into ur apartment and y'all can rate teas together! 🍵🍵🍵
• Not that affectionate but will accept words of affirmation. Really does appreciate a 'thank you' and a genuine compliment once in a while.
• Will remind you to wear a mask outside ALWAYS, he doesn't want you to get sick what can I say?
• Even if it might not look like it, Sakusa does care about you. He will give you those gentle reminders to drink water and eat everyday, say lil' thank yous' here and there and genuinely respects as a person.
ANOTHER EDIT CAUSE I CAN'T CONTAIN MYSELF APPARENTLY: But ALL of them would in some way sing in the shower:
Atsumu and Bokuto just BELTING without any care or regret (especially bokuto, some of you've seen tiktoks)
And I feel like for Sakusa he would either silently hum or either have a mini conversation with himself (like a lil' podcast or somethin' 😂) ALRIGHT IM DONE IM DONE
Another author's note: This already seems romantic but I meant it in a platonic way. When I make both parts keep in mind the the relationship is platonic! (Don't worry I might make a part where they go from roomates to lovers if I can gather the brain power 😂)
ANOTHER AUTHOR'S NOTE! :

Langst/Klance -- Pierrot
Okay guys, I know I forgot to upload something last week but this is like. My longest chapter yet, I guess. It is Klance, which I haven’t written in a while, and it’s probably super rough cause I hate myself and won’t go back and edit, but hey, have. Other than that, I hate myself and that sums up a lot of aspects of my life right now.
-------------------------------
“Hunk? Hunk, where’d you go? All right, so Coran isn’t as good of a cook as you are, but I think by now we should be used to that, there’s no need to run from it.”
Lance stopped short when he heard loud sobs and that too quick breathing that signaled Hunk’s anxiety attacks. Lance didn’t hesitate, though. “Hey, Hunk? Can I touch you, buddy?” His friend shifted under his mess of blankets, shivering and shaking. Lance swept him up into a hug, holding close for a few minutes before he grasped one of Hunks’ larger hands in one of his own. He settled their joined hands on Lance’s chest, Hunk instantly using lance’s heartbeat to steady his gasping breath.
It took several minutes, but Lance sat patiently, whispering reassurance and comfort in both English and Spanish. Once he was sure Hunk was calmed down, he pulled back into a tight hug, letting Hunk weep into his neck, uncaring of how the tears were dampening his clothes and making him uncomfortable. “Wanna talk?” Hunk nodded, but it was still a while before he said anything. And when he did, Lance felt his heart stop.
“Lance, what am I doing here? I’m not a pilot like you guys; I don’t even like flying. How can I save the universe if I can’t even do basic flight exercises like today’s?” And with that, he burst into a fresh wave of tears.
Lance contented himself with rubbing Hunk’s back, letting him cry out his insecurities and frustration, but he didn’t let that stop him from trying to assuage those fears. “Come on, man, you’re one of the two smartest people on our team! 50% of our brain power! Maybe something like 33% if we’re really gonna count Coran, but let’s also keep in mind that you’re the reason we’re not dying of starvation or too much exposure to goo, so at the very least, you deserve more credit than that. And you’ve come so far! Yellow is lucky to have you as her pilot! And you’ve got some of the top skills in the training rooms, don’t you? You’re just behind Shiro and Keith!
“And come on, it’s not like you’re the only making mistakes! Remember last week when I accidentally used those weird pellet gun things and shot Shiro in the ass? And what about when I was racing Keith and wound up making both of us crash into the ground? Was that stupid, or what?” Lance belted out a laugh, cringing inwardly when it sounded just a little too loud, but thankfully Hunk didn’t seem to notice. He just let out a weak giggle, but Lance could see that there were still tears in his eyes. That was fine. He had plenty of stories to entertain Hunk with.
Keith was annoyed. Why was he always the one having to track down Lance when he wandered off? It’s not like Keith was his keeper or anything. Hell, he didn’t even like Lance!
…Okay, maybe that was a lie, because what wasn’t to like? Honestly, Keith was just as infatuated as he was irritated, even at that moment, which was impressive because at that moment, Keith felt more horrified at what he was hearing. First, the very idea that Hunk was doubting his worth on the team, was ridiculous, and he wished that he knew what to say in order to make him feel better, but at least Lance was handling that okay. Keith just wished it wasn’t at Lance’s own expense.
At first, he was just surprised at hearing Lance recount those stories, stories which made Lance look like an idiot who can’t do anything right. He was pleased to hear that Hunk was seeming to cheer up, but he also knew that Lance’s laughter wasn’t completely honest. There was a tinge of pain to it. Lance normally tried to avoid reminders of those moments, and here he was, voluntarily sharing them, just to help a friend.
More laughter spilled from the room, and Keith bit his lip. Lance’s laughter was sounding more and more broken as he continued sharing stories. Thankfully he had begun reminding Hunk of all the good he had done, both before and after Voltron, but the tears in Lance’s voice were starting to hurt him. Thankfully, it was really only a couple minutes later when Hunk and Lance stepped out of Hunk’s room, arms slung over each other’s shoulders. Keith felt a pang in his chest.
“Keith!” Hunk’s eyes were rimmed with red, but the beaming smile he gave Keith told him that Lance had succeeded in making his friend feel better. “Did you need something?”
“Coran and Allura wanted me to tell you guys that we’re ready to have dinner, if you want to join us.” His eyes drifted over to Lance, and found himself amazed by how Lance was able to mask the pain in his eyes. Sure, Keith could still tell, because he was actively looking for it, but no one else would have any idea. How did he do that? Why would he do that?
Hunk quickly ducked under Lance’s arm to clasp a large hand on Keith’s shoulder. “Well, let’s get to it, man, I’m starving!” And Hunk began to drag Keith away, leaving Lance behind to follow. Keith glanced back, but when he did, he just saw Lance flash a wide grin at him, and then Hunk was pulling him around a corner.
The next time he saw Lance was a few minutes after he and Hunk had seated themselves, when he quietly slipped into the dining hall. He was just a little too quiet while they ate, but nobody else seemed to notice, and that’s when Keith resolved to keep a closer eye on his sharpshooter.
“Lance! You’re not nearly fast enough!” Lance’s concentration broken, Pidge managed to catch his foot with her katar. Startled at the unexpected catch, she accidentally shocked him, and Lance yelped in pain, crashing to the ground.
“Oh my god, Lance, I am so sorry!” Pidge started to rush over, but Allura stopped her before she could.
“Lance!” she snapped impatiently, “get up, now, and try again!” Lance was amazed. She wanted him to what? He just got shocked with who knows how much electricity! Hunk and Keith stared in shock, first looking at Allura in disbelief, then at Lance, still on the ground, trying to breathe through the pain coursing through him, and finally at Shiro, begging him to do something. He stepped forward.
“Allura, come on, we’ve all been training for hours. We’re exhausted.”
“You guys are fine. Go get some rest. Lance still has a lot of work he needs to do, and he’s never going to improve if he doesn’t stop wasting our time!” These last words were focused on Lance, who squeezed his eyes shut, shooting hand rhythmically flexing and relaxing. He felt a stab of shame in his chest. Of course, she was right. He was the weak link. He was behind everybody else in hand-to-hand, hell, even Pidge just took him down! They were never going to get anywhere with him being such a baby about training.
“Allura—” Shiro began, but Lance cut him off.
“No, she’s right.” Lance shakily got to his feet, small gasps and grunts escaping him as he forced his wobbly legs to support his weight. “I can do better, just let me go again.”
Shiro looked less than impressed. “Lance, you can barely stand. Let’s just call it a day and we can hit it hard in the morning.” And hell, Lance wanted nothing more than to be able to take a break. He wasn’t positive how long they had been going so far, but he knew it was at least a couple of hours – usually they train hand-to-hand for two, taking turn so everyone could rest, and so that they could each practice with varying styles and techniques. Then they would take an extra hour in the shooting range, and then move on to team building exercises before finishing for the day. Briefly, he wondered how long Allura wanted him to continue practicing.
“There, you see? He gets it, at least.” Oh, he got it all right. He was a failure, as usual, and he needed to work harder to catch up, to not bring his friends down. People could die if he wasn’t good enough. Lance gritted his teeth, preparing himself to go again. “Come on, Pidge, I won’t make it as easy on you this time.”
“Actually, I believe Coran needed both Pidge and Hunk for a project today, so if you two would go get showered and then meet with him, that would be fantastic.” Allura’s face was set, decisive. Pidge and Hunk were done for the day. Lance blinked.
“Okay… Shiro, will you run through it with me again? I know I can get it.” He really didn’t, but he wasn’t going to stop until he did, so it wasn’t like he had any other choice.
“Lance, I need Shiro so we can plan our next course of action. Got that, Shiro?” Her voice was hard and unforgiving, but still, Shiro hesitated, looking back at Lance almost questioningly. Lance shook his head. “It’s fine, Shiro, I’m sure Keith will help me?” Keith stepped forward, but Allura spoke up again.
“Honestly, Lance! Keith spends too much time training as is. You are the only one who needs the extra practice, stop trying to guilt the others into staying behind to help you. Keith, I don’t want to see you anywhere near the training room until tomorrow, when we are in fact scheduled to train.” The look in her eyes dared Keith to argue, and Lance knew him well enough to know that he needed to step in.
“Don’t worry, Princess, I can do it on my own. More fun to have company, but you’re right. Keith deserves a break.” Lance couldn’t look them in the eye. Not only was he going to struggle with the training itself, but now he was going to be isolated from his friends for who knows how long. What a day.
Keith clenched his fists, anger rushing through him. Lance was trying just as hard as any of them! In fact, he was trying harder than most of them! This was ridiculous, and he had no idea why Allura was acting the way she was. Like Lance needed a punishment or something! But with Lance agreeing with her, Keith couldn’t see how he could stay behind to help him with the combination.
“Lance, if you need to see the combo again – though you really shouldn’t, seeing as Shiro and Keith demonstrated it numerous times for you and you would have it if you had been paying attention – you can recall it on the databases here in the training room. You will practice until you get the combo, and until either Shiro or myself can confirm that you know it.” And without another word, she swept out of the room, calling to the other paladins on her way out.
Slowly, hesitantly, Pidge and Hunk wished Lance good luck, before they left to find Coran. Shiro look sympathetic, but ultimately, there wasn’t much they could do. Especially where Lance was willing to just put in the extra time. Already, he was gulping down some water, shuffling and shifting to allow his feet to find the beginning stance. Keith wanted nothing more than to stay behind, to offer some help or advice or dammit, even just some company! Lance needed people, and to cut him off from everyone like this was unnecessarily cruel. But before he could even offer any encouraging words, Lance was moving his way through the combination, slowly mapping out each step. Keith sighed, but then he followed the rest of their friends out of the training room.
              Hopefully Lance would be okay.
Of course, none of them saw Lance again until way after dinner. The other paladins had long since headed to bed, but Keith had been unable to sleep and was in the middle of debating whether it was safe to go to the training room or not when Lance came stumbling out of it. Trailing behind Allura, he looked beaten and exhausted. His hair and clothes were soaked through with sweat and Keith suspected he was favoring his leg. Meanwhile Allura looked smug, pleased with the knowledge that her slowest paladin was improving, that they were that much closer to defeating Zarkon. Lance slowly shuffled towards the kitchen, but Allura stopped him with a hand on his shoulder.
“What are you doing?” she questioned.
              Lance frowned. “I haven’t eaten yet…”
“It’s far too late to be making another mess in the kitchen,” she looked at him disapprovingly, and Keith felt anger rising to the surface. “It’d be best if you slept instead. Eat in the morning.” Keith gaped at her, but he was unnoticed by the two of them. Really, that just meant that once Allura had turned Lance towards the direction of their bedrooms, Keith was in the perfect position to see the pained resignation cross Lance’s face.
Before he even realized it, Keith had retrieved some light food from the kitchen and was knocking on Lance’s door. He left the foot on the floor, where Lance would hopefully see it, and then scurried around the corner as quickly and quietly as he could. He heard the door open, there was a few seconds of silence and then some rustling before the door shut again. When Keith peeked around the corner, the food was gone.
Only a couple days later, and Keith was again frustrated about Lance. It looked like he still hadn’t recovered fully from that long night in the training room, and he couldn’t understand why. Shiro had been really careful in making sure that nothing like that happened again, but that didn’t stop Allura from pushing Lance’s limits as hard as she could get away with when Shiro wasn’t looking. But despite this, Lance still looked so tired all the time.
That night, at dinner, Keith kept a close eye on Lance. He seemed normal, though tired, and it wasn’t until after dinner that he realized Lance wasn’t retiring to his room like most of the rest of the paladins were. Instead, he headed to the training room. Keith camped out outside, bored out of his mind, but more determined to find out if Lance was really okay or not. Lance logged a good three hours before he finally came out of the locker room exit. He was breathing heavily, gasping for air, and muscles loose and trembling, but otherwise seemed unharmed. Keith forced himself to relax as he followed Lance down the hallway from a distance. Lance gulped down a water pouch, and then set off to the Lion Hangar, where Pidge was still absorbed in her latest project.
“Pidge.” It was quiet, and the reaction was slight, but Keith still recognized how Pidge flinched and her shoulders shot up to her ears. “When are you going to go to bed?”
“None of your business!” Pidge spat, and Keith was more than surprised at the venom in the girl’s voice. Lance only sighed.
“Pidge. You need to sleep. Please.” Was this why he was so tired? He was trying to make sure Pidge was getting to bed? Keith looked at Pidge critically. If that was the case, he really wasn’t doing a good job. But, he realized with a pang, that wasn’t his fault. No one else was trying to get Pidge to sleep at all, and it was obvious she desperately needed the rest.
“Fuck off, Lance, I don’t need a babysitter.” Lance flinched, but refused to back down. “Come on, just one night. You haven’t slept more than a couple of hours in who knows how many days.”
Pidge narrowed her eyes. “Have you been keeping tabs on me?”
              “I’m worried about you.”
“Well no one else is and the only people who really care are who knows where and I’m trying to find them, so leave me alone.”
There were a few moments of silence where Keith wondered if he should intervene. Before he could, Lance spoke up again. “I know you have nightmares, Pidge.” Pidge froze. “Come on, did you really think I wouldn’t notice, kid? You’re pushing yourself too far. Keep it up and you won’t control when you collapse from exhaustion. You’ve gotta sleep at some point. At least this way, you’ll have more control over when and how.”
Pidge shook her head, but even Keith could tell that her eyes were glazing with tears. “Pidge, come on. I’ll stay with you. You don’t have to worry about nightmares. I chase nightmares for my siblings all the time.” Lance’s hands fisted briefly, then relaxed again. Pidge looked up at Lance pleadingly. “Would you really stay?” she asked hesitantly.
Lance bent down without another word, scooping her up into his arms. “Of course I will. If Matt can’t be here to do it for you, then I’ll gladly fill in for him until he can, don’t worry.”
When Keith saw them the next morning, Lance looked even more exhausted than before, but Pidge was obviously more relaxed and clearheaded.
Everyone expressed their joy at Pidge getting rest, and they praised her for finally taking some time to herself.
She didn’t mention a single word about how Lance basically had to force her to finally get some sleep, or that he was the whole reason she felt comfortable for doing so in the first place.
And no one else seemed to notice how Lance was so tired he could barely keep a handle on his emotions during training that day.
In fact, Keith suspects it was because of that loose grip on his emotions that the disaster that was training really occurred.
“Lance, come on, really try here! Everyone else is working so hard, and they’re doing great, just try a little harder for us! We’re a team, and we can’t be that if we have to drag you along on missions.”
Keith knew, okay, he knew that Shiro was under a lot of stress. He was still young, only a little older than them, and he’d suffered a lot of trauma that no one should ever have to go through. But, really? Lance was so tired, and he was trying so hard, and he was doing so much for all of them. He didn’t deserve this.
Lance, though, merely looked up at Shiro from where he was laying on the floor, eyes bleary and unfocused. Shiro clenched his jaw, visibly willing himself to dredge up some of that incredible patience he’s always preaching at Keith about. “Lance, if you won’t take this seriously, then we have no reason to keep you on as a paladin. I’ve been trying to defend you from Allura, but honestly? She’s right. You need to work harder and take this more seriously, and if you can’t even do that then I dont know why you’re bothering to stick around.”
Keith glanced around for help from Pidge and Hunk, but they were far on the other side of the training room, and hadn’t noticed what was happening yet. Keith slowly stepped forward. “Shiro, maybe we should…” Shiro barely glanced at him when he walked past, all but racing out of the training room, leaving Lance an overtired and emotional mess on the floor. At first, they both just sat there in silence, but then Lance visibly steeled himself, taking a deep breath and choking back tears. And when he finally staggered to his feet, wiping his eyes clear of any moisture, Keith felt like his heart might break.
“He’s right, it’s fine. I’m going to go take a breather, and I’ll come back to try again after dinner, I think. I need to get this right.” For a moment, Keith couldn’t breathe, his heart and soul ached so much for this sad, lost boy in front of him, but before he could gather his thoughts enough to speak, Lance had taken off.
He didn’t see him again until very late in the night, or early in the morning, depending on your perspective. Keith had been heading to the kitchen to get a water pouch, but instead barely managed to stop himself from walking into Shiro having a panic attack. Keith was more surprised by that than by the fact Lance was talking him down from it. He had Shiro’s hand clutched against his own chest, helping him to time his breaths, and he was gently chattering away about his family, joking with Shiro as if it wasn’t a one-sided conversation during which the other participant was having a full-scale attack. It was impressive, but when you looked closely, it wasn’t hard to see that Lance’s hands were trembling, and there were tears in his eyes.
Some time later, it was evident that Shiro was too tired to notice any of those things, as he instead broke down into tears once he’d calmed down enough. Lance stayed with him the entire time, and Keith kept a silent vigil over his friend. The two of them didn’t retire until the day castle had begun shifting into its day cycle. And if anyone else noticed that Lance was starting to look a little less vibrant, a little less happy, a little less excited about life, they didn’t say anything. Lance appeared to wish to just brush it off, and Keith was content to bide his time.
But that wasn’t going to last too long.
“I don’t know how to help you, okay!” The quiet that followed that outburst was just as loud. Keith couldn’t bear it. Lance should never look this depressed, this dejected. “Lance.”
There was silence, Lance refused to glance up and acknowledge Keith, so he tried again.
“Lance. Please. Look at me.” Another few seconds of silence before Lance shook his head weakly. Feeling the pain in his chest tighten, Keith tried again. He had a vision of Lance comforting and coaching Hunk through a panic attack, Lance running himself ragged training for Allura’s peace of mind, Lance’s willingness to sacrifice his own sleep to ensure Pidge slept, the trust and faith he placed in Shiro, despite consistently feeling that Shiro didn’t even like him, forget about trusting him.
“Just.  Please. I just want you to be honest. Be you. Please, just be selfish for a few minutes. I promise, I’ll still be here. I don’t… I don’t need you to be anything but yourself. Please.” Still silence. “You’ve done so much for all of us, and I need you to know that even if you didn’t stretch yourself so thin for all of us, we would all still love you. We would still value you. You’re our friend. None of us knew what we were getting into, but we do all know that none of us would be here without you. We wouldn’t have even found Blue, we would’ve give up, I don’t know what exactly, I just know that we wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you, and that we can’t do this without you!” Keith’s voice went soft, and Lance stood frozen, looking back at Keith with a shocked expression. “I can’t do this without you, Lance, and I can’t stand to watch you push yourself so hard and get no credit or appreciation or even a thank you. You’re worth more than that to me, and I know you’re worth more than that to the others, too.”
Lance’s lower lip trembled. “I can’t not help them, Keith.”
Keith stepped forward, placed gentle hands on Lance’s shoulders, carefully pulled him into a hug. “I know, Lance, I know,” This close, he knew to keep his voice quiet, murmuring directly into Lance’s ear. “I love you for that, but you can’t push too hard too fast. You deserve better, and we want more than that for you. I promise. Just talk to us, we can be there for you, just like you’re there for us. I’ll be there for you, if you’ll let me.” Keith felt his face flush, but he forced himself to stay put. Lance needed him more, right then.
They stood there for several minutes, no sound save for Lance’s quiet sobs and Keith’s hushed reassurances and promises.
              “I’ll try.”

Voltron Rewritten Defender (1/8)
Also known as My Almost Raging Bitch List for this Goddamn Disastrous Disappointment of a Show
I binged all 8 seasons in under a week, so believe me when I say almost nothing was forgotten between seasons/episodes and I do tend to note that.
If it’s not obvious by the title, I’m planning an entire show AU. I am extremely open to people’s opinions on what I’m currently thinking and when I finally post this I’ll be open to criticism there too. If you would like to avoid seeing anything in regards to this feel free to blacklist #voltron_rewritten_defender because that’s what I’ll be using for this whole thing.
Enjoy, I guess.
Fair warning I am a multishipper, but for this show I leaned towards Klance, so if that bothers you that’s okay, I’m not going to be bashing any other ships (mainly just Dreamworks’ forced Allurance). If you think I missed something for any other ship lemme know! If you wanna have a ship discussion that’s cool too. The only other thing I can think of is that Allura’s attitude in S8 really stuck with me to the point that she bothered me throughout the entire rewatch (I was admittedly one of the people who thought she could be very Mary Sue ish when I first watched this) so that’ll show up now and again.
If you want to look at the Google Doc for the whole show, click the link, if not you can expand this post to see Season 1. I’ll be doing these in chunks, but as some of you know I do a FicRecList on one of my other accounts here @sorcerusdragonbionics so I’m gonna be alternating between that and these for the next couple days.
If you do the Google Route it’ll have you ask me for permission, this is normal and if you request it I’ll give you commenting abilities.

Things I kinda wanna bitch about
Things I did genuinely enjoy and like
Rewatch Thoughts (basically what I remember from further forward and how I feel like it reflects back on earlier seasons)
Ship Talk (behold my multishipping insanity)
Things I think I’ll do in the Rewrite
Writing Notes (mainly for me or as explanation for what I’m planning)
VA and Closed Captioning Things
Other Fic Thoughts
This ended up being music commentary in S8
Season One
Problems with the Season overall:
To be honest if I hated this season I wouldn’t’ve kept watching because by the time I started S3 had just dropped
Episode 1
Here’s the deal, WHY ARE YOU SO LONG BUT SO EMPTY?!?
Yeah, nope, that’s mostly it
Fix the problem of telling instead of showing about the other Lions and remove Allura’s explanation of the Lions if possible (thank you Kross for explaining why it felt so empty- this vid is actually where I started getting the idea to actually go through with a full series AU)
DON'T RUSH THE LION INTROS
Also let the 5 introduce themselves to Allura and Coran
Also Character Drive to Complete Mission Should Be A Thing
Flesh out Paladin Personalities so that the Aris Arrival is End of Part One (making it closer to the length of E1)
Flesh out Lion intros so part 2+3 are more like full Eps without Sendak
Episode 2
75 degrees… that’s definitely in Fahrenheit, which why?
How does no one have a watch with a date on them?
“A man can be driven to do anything if a beautiful woman is just really really mean to him”
More inbetween scenes bc I can
I will accept the transformation sequence here, I’m just not going to write it
Episode 3
Please watch the use of Earth Time Slices please, because it’s confusing
I love the portrayal of PTSD in this show and I would die before I change it
Bye bye transformation sequence
Pidge’s talk with Shiro can please change
Episode 4
“I say Vol, you say Tron” will come up again if it kills me
Lance, how do you know what hotdog water and feet taste like?
I love how Coran is completely nonchalant about the fact that he’s drinking a hair tonic
Shiro, don’t bring down the mood
Goddammit Sendak, you could stay for this arc, but god I want you GONE!
Keith, having an emotion? Really?
The Pidge plot DID NOT NEED TO HAPPEN LIKE THAT!
Fight me I will change it
Or minimally change the fact that their selfish motivations are revealed to BAD and should be changed
Oh yeah, let’s not give the ONE GUY with notable homesickness a character arc around that
That moment when you realize Allura is like ‘wtf is a peanut’
Allura, don’t push it, some people don’t want to talk about it
You will have something to talk about, BIOLOGY
Decryption happens here, and next attempt to find family occurs… when?
Poor Coran, if there is anyone who was more forgotten than Lance it was him
Keith isn’t wrong, but he also doesn’t know how to say it without getting mad, which mood
Just pointing out Lance is not only smart, but selfless, tell me how he’s not the main character
My inner Shance/Klance shipper is sobbing
“Bomb fuel” mentioned here, occurs… actually it’s ok
Timelines need to be a thing!
Can I make the fight scenes more intense? Yes, I write them for my YJ Scripts. Will I? Almost definitely.
Keith with that much fire your mask should be closed because smoke inhalation is bad
Can we explain Vrepit Sa before s6?
It feels like Coran forgets that 10k years have passed under an evil empire and part of me likes it, but it hurts me
Episode 5
The Katie flashback is hurts me
I want to add Gender Identity
Can we talk about how Shiro is a nickname for Takashi Shirogane?
That’s not how an EMP works
The Coran sitting on Hunk’s shoulders with a machine gun is everything
I know the back x-ray was a joke, but I still don’t like it
Rax is an idiot, just saying
Bonding Moment!!!
Episode 6
“Intergalactic time measuring competition.”
“We had a bonding moment!”
Where is Sendak’s arm?
Fight me, Pidge’s ‘gender speech’
It will be a gender speech if it kills me
Lance, why are you acting the way you are?
“I figured” and “We were supposed to think you were a boy” ARE NOT PROPER REACTIONS!
Rolo, sometimes I want to punch you in the teeth
Lance’s boner is going to get someone killed
Lance had 4sec of logic and then Nyma brings up Keith, which ofc does him in
Let’s expand on the Komar, yeah?
Quiznack means fuck and NO ONE can tell me otherwise
Keith’s ability to fly is impressive and it’s awesome
Friendly reminder that Lance acknowledged the bonding moment
Episode 7
I LOVE the laser gun sound effects!!!
I just realized that Allura has no clue what an Acronym is
We… literally just talked about this and YOU didn’t know that Shiro, I understand the point, but seriously?
LIONS are TELEPATHIC Shiro DID NOT need to say that aloud!
I do actually like the fact that Kieth gets excited before realizing what he did
FIRE and ICE PEOPLE come on! What the hell?! You barely had to try
“Yes sir?” Keith to Shiro, what?
I love them and their cute little arguments
Left vs Right, thank you Zamber
We be lovin’ Hunay bc it’s pure as hell
Thank you Shiro for validating Hunk’s concerns
You could check  a little faster, Allura
I LIVE for this scene
Was it actually Rolo?
Do they have teleporters?
Keith being weird is my favorite thing
I love good big bros who argue tradition to save their baby sis
Zarkon is a bit of a moron
THEIR LIVES ARE IN DANGER ALLURA!
They all came through different doors… how?
What if the answer was no?
I’m ok with Lance embarrassing himself when he’s cocky, some people seem to forget that
Bye transformation sequence, I explained you ONCE and that’s it
Prorock… why are you familiar?
Episode 8
I admittedly forgot that they didn’t know these things would be different
Flying fight scenes I can do, teleporting not so much
Poor Shiro he thought he had an idea and he was wrong
I love Coran’s reaction
Also NO SHIT Allura
UHHHH Pidge said that not and of the other three so how did He know?
Allura may piss me off, but I do love this speech
“Your Altean Energy”??? Coran, you’re an Altean, I’m confused.
The “Sacred Altean” thing I get, but you must be more specific cuz it makes Coran sound like he thinks he’s not a proper Altean.
Oof, angsty
Also, I  know we can’t kill Allura yet, but...
I love that Hunk forgot they hadn’t formed Voltron
Bye bye transformation sequence
Ummm, they NEED to explain the Bayard Equip bc that’s… two very different things that occurred between Hunk and Keith’s Bayard Weapons
Why is this a scene? It’s not a dog. So, yeah, I’m with Keith here
Episode 9
THIS IS NOT HEALTHY ALLURA!
I just realized that this doesn’t come back until S..7? 8? Whatever, WAY too long
I can’t unhear “Training Dick”
Did they have homework on Altea?
Be still my Punk shipper heart
WHY is he SO pretty?!
Y’know, the glowing red eye is usually a bad sign
I could SO mean and hurt Keith here
That moment when you’re like 90% sure Shiro heard that somewhere
Not what haunted means Coran, but accurate
Why could Lance see Alfor for a second?
I too would like the answer to “where was the Red Lion?”
PTSD IS AMAZINGLY WRITTEN!
It’s a shame this is NEVER treated properly again
Thank you for NOT making the swimming thing a thing
You didn’t need to TRY Voltron, what the hell?!
Here’s the deal,  Altea not being Obliterated-obliterated is actually a really interesting idea
Lance still wins, for the record
If she was infected in any way this wouldn’t drive me crazier than a bot on Halloween
But she’s not so this is BULL
Shallura confuses me SO much…
Ok, admittedly the scene with Allura and Alfor is beautifully heartbreaking
Episode 10
The fact that Zarkon was a close friend to Alfor should be addressed
Also Shiro calling himself “an inexperienced Pilot” hurts
Allura’s a MORON!
YES! MASSIVE ISSUE WITH YOU COMING
Nice puppetry Hunk
What happened to THIS Allura?! She’s reckless but not INSANE (or so boring I might cry)!
Is this the same Druid from Season 8? Pretty sure it’s 8… I forget which, but the one Keith fought
“Don’t walk through that door!” / Keith does/ “I think I told him” // “You are a paragon of leadership, Lance”
Hehheh I love Hunk teasing Lance about Allura
I do actually the fact that I can’t tell what size the purple container is until Keith grabs it
Heheh the Allura interacting with the Galra soldier
The computer sounds like Lance
Also Shiro had that “holy shit” moment
I HATE WRITING TELELPORTING FIGHTS
I’m 99% sure that the ONLY reason I didn’t fall into the Galra Keith rabbit hole was the fact that I binge watched
This scene confuses me… so much now that I know Shallura was apparently never going to be a thing
So confused
Episode 11
That hair flip though...
Coran, I get it, but calm down
Okay, but Keith has a point. Seriously, he’s not wrong.
For the record, Haggar scares me
So much makes so much more sense now that we know Zarkon is the Original Black Paladin
That… makes no sense… “enough essence to open a wormhole”
Why are you transforming? More pieces to shoot at is usually a smart idea…
Hey hey, THACE!
Why can’t you have two active at once? I’m honestly serious.
I mean too OP, got it, but you can maneuver around that for temporary stuff
Shiro, use your words, yeah?
“Thinking” uh huh you mean “telepathy” right?
I genuinely forgot that Shiro got booted from Black
Damn! Yes Shiro! Kick some ass!
Ok, here’s the deal, Keith’s not listening to Coran, but he doesn’t have all the info (LIKE THE FUCKING BAYARD), Zarkon’s the OG Paladin, and he’s in distress
I HATE TELEPORTERS!
“Could have been” … uh Kuron exists ??
Also, Shiro with yellow eyes is fucking terrifying
We ain’t ficking stupid VLD
Zarkon’s a fucking idiot
Written properly his power-hungry attitude works even with him destroying his own ship
But it wasn’t so it’s null
You aren’t even subtle about Galra Keith
How can Allura see through Illusions?
Nobody knows!
Shiro, you have no jetpack, how are you so fast?
“Who cares, wormhole!” mood
I… uh… I want to do SO many things with this idea
Preferably not what they actually do...

Punk Goes Pop-Klance au
I’m back, bitches! Here's part 6, which gets angsty as fuck, sorry not sorry. I ended up completely rewritting this, which is part of why it took so long for me to update, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out, and you get some answers to things, so I hope you enjoy!
First-Previous-Next-AO3
Pt 6
Lance spent the next day totally not moping. Pidge gave up trying to get him to do something and left him to his own devices, while they hung out with Hunk and tried to reassure Keith that Lance didn’t hate him, he was just processing things in his typical Lance way.
Mindlessly scrolling through his phone, Lance opened the Youtube app with the intent to watch shitty vine compilations to return some semblance of joy to his soul. When the screen loaded, a video at the top of his recommended feed caught his eye, Brogaynes’ Rihanna cover. He felt a surge of energy, remembering how fired up about the video he got yesterday. He couldn’t just leave this rivalry hanging.
He dragged himself out of bed at the glorious hour of 2:43 pm, got dressed, and munched on a granola bar as he sat at his desk and powered up his laptop. He opened his editing software and got to work.
***
“Hey, look at that!” Pidge exclaimed as they walked into the room, “It’s alive!” Their voice warbled like Dr. Frankenstein when he first awoke his monster. Headphones over his ears, Lance didn’t notice his roommate’s return and jumped a little when he saw them move into his peripheral. He pushed the headphones off one ear and turned to acknowledge them.
“Hey, Pidge.” He smiled at them briefly before going back to his work. They moved to stand behind them and flopped their weight over Lance’s shoulders, severely hindering his ability to do anything, but refusing to move when he tried to shrug them off.
“Whatcha working on?” They asked, their voice directly in Lance’s ear from their perch on his back. He swatted at them, his efforts to get them to move fruitless.
“Remix,” Lance answered concisely as he tried to focus, despite Pidge’s weight pushing on him.
“For the Youtube thing?” The ginger guessed correctly. They squinted at the screen, taking a closer look. “Evanescence, huh? You’re playing dirty there, Aoki.” Lance swung himself around to face them, doing so fast enough to displace them, causing them to stumble back. He snickered at their indignant hey.
“Serves you right, gremlin.” A shit-eating grin spread across Pidge’s face at the name-calling. “And Aoki, really? I thought we were friends,” Lance said, feinting a pout. Pidge’s grin only grew wider.
“I call it like I see it,” they said with a shrug.
“Rude! You and I both know I’m better than him,” Lance replied.
“I thought you weren’t a DJ,” Pidge said smugly, knowing they would hit a nerve with that one.
“I’m not!” Lance huffed and turned back to his computer. “Be gone, demon. I want to finish this.” Pidge complied, sitting on their bed and pulling out their laptop.
Several minutes of silence and soft key clicking passed, broken by a loud groan from Lance as he leaned back, pushed his headphones down around his neck, and rubbed his eyes. Pidge looked up as his hands slid down his face, stretching it out like a scream mask, and he groaned again.
“You good?” They asked.
“Yeah, I’ve just been working on this for--,” Lance eyes widened as he looked at the clock, “Jesus, I’ve been working on this for, like, 6 and a half hours.”
“Dude,” Pidge replied, “Have you moved from there?” Lance shook his head. “Have you eaten?” Lance nodded. “What?” They questioned.
“A granola bar,” he answered almost sheepishly.
“All you’ve eaten is a granola bar all day?” They said in disbelief, “It’s past 9 o’clock, Lance. That’s not healthy, man.” They resisted the urge to strangle him, electing instead to drag the lanky boy to his feet and point aggressively at his shoes and jacket. “We’ve got like 45 minutes ‘til the dining hall closes. You’re eating.” Lance hung his head at the reprimand but did as he was told.
Lance realized how hungry he actually was once they walked into the cafeteria and he could smell the food. He piled his tray with two meals worth of food, a comically large amount compared to Pidge’s bowl of fruit and ice cream bar they grabbed to snack on since they ate a few hours previous.
They barely sat down before Lance started shoveling food into his mouth.
“Hungry, huh?” Pidge quipped, laughing as Lance flipped them off between bites. They sat silently, watching him eat, refraining from making any more comments until he finished, pushing his tray to the side.
“You can’t do that, Lance.”
“What.”
“Not eat, dumbass,” Pidge said sternly.
“I know. Sorry.”
“You don’t need to apologize. You need to take care of yourself.” Pidge softened their voice, not wanting to come off as angry, but concerned, and continued, “I know you’re upset about yesterday, but that doesn’t mean you just get to shut down.”
“Yes, mom,” Lance retorted.
“Lance, I’m serious,” Pidge responded, a little too harshly.
“I got it. Just lay off,” Lance snapped coldly. He reached for his tray and tried to stand, but Pidge extended their leg and pulled the chair back in, forcing him to stay seated.
“No, you’re not running away from this,” Pidge’s voice was sharp, uncharacteristically so. “I get it, Keith doesn’t remember you, you’re upset, but you need to pull your head out of your ass.”
“It’s not that simple,” Lance mumbled.
“What’s not that simple? You were friends in middle school, you haven’t seen each other in, what, 7, 8, years? People forget about each other under normal circumstances all the time after that long. Keith has his reasons, you just need to listen to him.”
“We weren’t just friends, Pidge,” Lance cut in, a fire in his eyes, “He was everything to me. I’ve wondered every day where he went, why he left me, and I finally found him, and he forgot me. How could I not be upset?” Lance rested his head in his hands to cover the tears slowly making their way down his face, not wanting to draw attention to himself, despite there only being a few other people in the room, all seated far away. Pidge let out a heavy sigh, the result of an internal battle over how to handle this.
“He was in a car accident.” Lance’s head shot up, eyes wide.
“What?”
“It killed both of his parents and the doctors thought he had short term memory loss caused by a traumatic brain injury, but the memories never came back and it was more severe than they thought, he could remember next to nothing from the past 3 or 4 years, which includes the time he knew you.”
“He, oh my god,” Lance whispered, a hand over his mouth as the tears flowed heavier. Pidge gave him a moment before continuing.
“He went to live with his aunt and uncle and had to have private tutoring to catch him up to where he was supposed to be in school. That’s how I met him. My brother, Matt, was friends with his cousin, Shiro, so I came over a lot to help him with school stuff.
“He didn’t want to forget you, Lance. He just had a shitty hand dealt to him and you were indirectly caught in the crossfire.”
“Jesus,” Lance breathed, “Fuck, I was such a dick.”
“Yeah, you kinda were,” Pidge laughed softly, “I shouldn’t have even told you this, but you never would have talked to him otherwise.”
“I, um, thanks for telling me, Pidge,” Lance stuttered out, his hands falling to the table with a dull thud. Pidge reached out and squeezed one reassuringly.
“Just talk to him, Lance. You guys obviously had something before, there’s no reason you can’t start over.”
“Ok, yeah. Yeah, I will,” Lance nodded, letting out a shuddered breath as his body calmed down. Pidge smiled and smacked his arm.
“Alright, enough of this sad shit. It’s a school night,” they said, standing and grabbing their dirty dishes. Lance mirrored the action, following them to the dish drop and then their room, but stayed quiet, still trying to process the information that had just been dumped on him.

Bachelor In Paradise: Voltron Edition
Chapter 2: Safety
tags: klance, some allurance but it’s awkward lol, SHIRO, Coran too
ao3 wattpad
(sorry it’s late, as you know there was drama)
***
Lance spent about an hour in the water before making his way up to the bar.
He was fairly shocked to see Shiro standing there, pouring a thick brownish liquid into a cup in front of Pidge.
"Oh, hey Lance!" Shiro greeted cheerily. "You want something to drink?"
"Shiro? What are you doing here?" Lance questioned, sitting down.
"What, you think you and the other paladins were the only ones who got dragged out here?" Shiro ran a hand through his white hair, giving Lance a cheerful smile. "Besides, I'm just the bartender, so I'm basically here for the drinks right?"
"Did someone say drinks?!" Coran popped out of nowhere from below the counter, causing Lance to jump.
"Coran!" Hunk exclaimed, coming up behind Pidge, a towel around his body. "Shiro!"
They both waved.
"This is way too crazy," Lance stated. He thought for a moment. "What do you have to drink?"
Shiro narrowed his eyes. "Nothing too heavy, Lance McClain."
"Aww, Shiro! I knew there was a downside to having you as the bartender."
"He's not the only one! With me and Shiro here, we'll keep all of you in check," Coran replied, pouring a purple liquid into a clear glass and setting it in front of Lance. "Now Shiro here might not know all the drinks and what to avoid, but I'll be sure to help him out!"
Lance picked up the glass and sniffed. It smelled nice enough. He took a drink. It caused his tongue to tingle, and for a second, Lance feared for his ability to speak. But soon enough the tingling went away and he took another sip.
His eyes trailed across everyone, Pidge seeming to not really enjoying the thick brown goop in their glass (it kinda looked like chocolate syrup), and Keith was now next to him. Wait when was he next to Keith?
"Hey man, what does yours taste like?" Lance asked, looking at Keith and the red beverage in his glass.
Keith hesitated for a second. "It's kind of spicy."
"Spicy?" Lance laughed. "What kind of drinks are spicy?"
"Well, I don't know! You asked and that's just how it tastes. Try it for yourself." Keith shoved the glass over to Lance and grabbed Lance's out of his hands. "I'll try yours."
"Well, okay." Lance picked up the glass and looked at the drink. He looked back at Keith, who was waiting for him. He took a drink.
Keith was right, it was spicy. He made a shocked face, causing Keith to actually laugh a little. It was small, but it was there. Once again, Lance swallowed down his feelings. He gestured to his glass.
"Your turn buddy."
Keith eyed the purple liquid suspiciously and took a drink of it. After a few moments, he looked at the other boy with worry and pointed to his tongue, eyes wide.
Lance chuckled. "Don't worry, it'll go away." He turned to look at Pidge, only to find Pidge was gone. Shiro was cleaning out their glass, and Coran was just looking at all the drink options available.
Keith relaxed, his face softening as he took his drink back. "You want to go sit on the couches?"
Was Keith actually offering Lance to go sit with him? To spend time with him?
"Uh, actually I was going to find Allura."
"Oh." Keith looked down. "Well, good luck getting to her, after you left the rose room she fled to her room in a hurry and hasn't left since. I think she was embarrassed."
"Embarrassed, why?" Lance asked, now on edge a little.
"Well, the princess doesn't exactly wear bikinis now does she? It was really the first time we ever saw her legs. She probably doesn't feel safe." Then Keith stood and made his way down a few steps and to the lounge area.
How did Lance not even notice that? It really had been the first time. I mean, yeah he saw her shape but her actual skin? How could he have been so oblivious to that fact? Of course, she would've been embarrassed.
Lance watched Keith go and after a moment of decision, stood and followed him. He took another couch though, instead of taking Keith's space. He didn't know how the samurai would feel about that.
"Did you enjoy swimming?" Keith asked, looking out to the water. The fire from the torches was brighter now, the sunset nearly complete. The fire brightened one side of Keith's face, the other side darkened by the falling night. Lance almost forgot to answer he was so captivated, but then Kieth turned to look at him, and he came back to himself.
"Yeah, I've definitely missed the water."
Keith hummed and moved to lay down. Lance waited a moment more before speaking.
"You seem a lot calmer than before."
Keith looked to Lance again, then nodded. "Yeah, I went on a bit of a hike. I wanted to see how far out this place goes. I got about a mile out before I was suddenly transported back to the bar area."
How Keith-like. He really was the type to find out everything, and he especially wanted to get out of here.
"So, that means we're stuck here?"
"Well..." Keith sat up again and moved a little closer to Lance so now they were both at the edge of the couches they were sat in. "There's got to be some kind of a catch. We can't leave here now, but somehow, some way, someone is going to do something. And that something is going to cause this game to end."
"You mean everyone getting some kind of romantic interest?" Lance asked, eyebrows raised. Keith's eyes narrowed and he crossed his arms.
"Not necessarily."
"You do realize the objective of the show, right?"
"It's stupid, Lance! This whole thing. Did you listen to a word Bob said? Viewers? Who you need?" Keith was getting tenser, his shoulders showed it the most.
"If you're so nervous about everything then why were you so calm earlier?" Lance asked, getting a little defensive.
"I just realized there's no point going through this with a clouded head." Keith just shrugged. "Besides, we're safe here. There's pretty much no danger as far as I'm aware of."
"Let me guess, you also did a perimeter check?"
"Shiro went with me too."
Lance just chuckled and stood. "Well, as much as I would love to hear about that, I'm gonna go hit the hot tub."
Keith stood too, and just stared at Lance for a few seconds, blinking. "Uh, would you like someone to go with you?"
Was Keith offering to spend more time with him again?
"Uh, I think I'd like some alone time. Thanks though."
"I just wanted to make sure, so that everyone feels and stays safe. I don't trust Bob," Keith spoke quickly, then exited so fast that Lance didn't even have time to respond.
Lance just shook his head. Weird, Keith being concerned about his safety. Maybe the others didn't feel safe at all, but this whole area was what Lance was comfortable with. The beach, the sea. Paradise.
He just made his way over to the hot tub, and when he reached there, he saw Allura. Her eyes were closed and her head was resting against her arm that was laying against the ledge. She was in a bathing suit.
Lance didn't know what he should do.
Should he leave her alone? Should he join her?
Before he could decide, Allura's eyes fluttered open and she looked at him. Her cheeks flushed, but whether it was from the heat of the water or Lance being there, he couldn't tell.
"Oh, Lance, I-"
"No, I'm sorry Princess I'll leave." He turned to walk but she called after him.
"Wait! No. I'm sorry, I was just enjoying the waters. I'll be the one to leave."
Lance turned around. She stood, and Lance immediately blushed. Her white bathing suit was vibrant against her dark skin. The water rolled down her stomach, her legs, her chest. Lance had never seen this much skin from Allura ever. Not once. It was almost, overwhelming. The suit supported her breasts well, but it was also low cute so it was only connected by the bottom band. It was very revealing and so not Allura.
"Please, um. Enjoy. It's very pleasant." She wrapped a towel around herself self-consciously. Lance realized he had stared.
"Oh, quiznak, Allura. I'm sorry-"
"No, it's alright. I'll just, be in my room." With that, she walked past Lance quickly, both of their cheeks flushed. He watched her race up the steps, before losing sight of her in the trees.
Lance just let her go, ashamed of his behavior, but at the same time, he was just a teenage boy. Still, that was no excuse, and he took in a shaky breath before going to the hot tub.

okay here’s the 3 roots to all the problems in the writing in vld s4:
hi so right from the bat i was realising all these problems with uh. everything (including the art style?? who the fuck was in charge of drawing keith?? he has the same inaccuracy as fucking clone!shiro lmao). anyway if there are problems in writing, then you can actually trace it back to its roots and address the problem there, instead of just judging the outcome of the roots.
there are also other tinier aspects of the show’s writing - like some moments of complete tonal whiplash (watch this video on star wars rebels if you’re curious about tonal whiplash) - which are just simply bad writing. but if you were wondering exactly what the fuck the vld writers’ deal is with s4, then this post will tell you.
anyway, take this as a guide in how to critique s4, and how to not make these mistakes in your own writing.
1. loss of balance as the writers divert all writing to plot writing.
so when you write a story, there’s a balance you have to find between character writing, relationship writing, and plot writing. depending on your story and your style, you’ll have more focus on one or two and less on another, but for a good story it won’t go to massive extremes and it will have a reasonable amount on each. for example, boku no hero academia is pretty much almost completely character writing, with a large focus on relationship writing from about the sports carnival arc onwards, but the plot is still really good because it isn’t forgotten about. avatar: the last airbender is character and plot-driven, but there’s still relationships built up and not forgotten about.
so what is voltron: legendary defender? across s1-3, it had a HUGE focus on plot, a focus to the point that it was uh. risky. that focus is so much that you should only approach it if you know how to maintain that balance. vld’s focus on plot was toeing the line of too much - to the point that character writing was almost completely void, and relationship writing was extremely subtle. however, with keith’s arc in s2 and 3 and the developing relationships between keith and lance and lance and allura coupling in with subtle character development which allowed these relationships to develop and fuel the plot, vld actually handled it quite well. it’s why ive been saying this whole time to stop railing on the writers so hard because they chose a balance that’s extremely hard to keep and they actually pulled it off in a pretty impressive way when you factor in that difficulty. i regard s3 as a masterpiece - in 7 episodes the pacing was perfect despite plot accelerating massively and character relationships and development proceeding at a similar fast pace.
where did s4 go wrong, then? well,  the writers forgot about that balance. they had plot points in mind, and they were sidetracked by these grand plans for t h e p l o t. pidge finding her brother, the introduction of the rebel alliance, keith leaving voltron, lotor being exiled, naxzala being attacked. all these plot points are really good!! and the plot was actually really good. but what went wrong is (mainly) the writers forgetting that they need that equilibrium, that balance (other reasons to do with plot are described below). they chose a balance that is much more delicate than many other stories, and this season they dumped a ten tonne weight on it because they forgot how fucking delicate it is. (i actually have a feeling this has to do with the way lok was written and i think they got used to that, send me an ask if you want me to talk about it more).
2. too much crammed into 6 episodes = destruction of pacing.
i mentioned that the plot was good. it is. but it doesn’t feel that way, right? right. that’s because the ideas and the progression is good. but there is too much for this little screentime. lotor went from villain to “zuko” within 13 episodes, no, two episodes. that’s shit. do you remember actual zuko? that arc took years, and it began from the first episode. lotor? the redemption arc has taking uh. 40 minutes. and honestly, that is shit writing.
another thing i had massive problems with - pidge’s episode. and that was my favourite episode for this season. this episode’s first bit is pidge finding and reuniting with her brother. and it’s really good! but i was watching it and thinking, “wow this is uh. this is moving a bit fast. we’re cutting away too soon on all of the scenes and shots. everything feels kinda cramped, time-wise.” well guess why!!??!!!?! the writers want to move the goddamn plot forward again!! the best episode of the season is completely ruined because instead of taking the entire episode to really dwell on pidge’s emotions and make us properly root for pidge’s journey (a la s3e5 - “the journey”), we take half the episode so that pidge and matt can reunite in two minutes and we can come back and do. PLOT RELATED STUFF. FUCKING CHRIST!!!! this is the episode that we have literally been waiting for since the first episode. and it’s fucking cut off by OTHER PLOTS. can someone please get briyan konietzko in here and explain to lm and jds what the fucking fuck CHARACTER AND RELATIONSHIP EPISODES ARE??!!?!!! HOLY SHIT!!!
every shot in every scene in every episode of s4 isnt the full fucking thing!! listen - part of film language is how long you dwell on each shot, and how these shots are edited together. let me put this into layman’s terms - all the scenes and shots in s4 are just very vague, understandable descriptions of the actual scenes and shots. this aspect of the language of film is the difference between, “can i have water?” and “could I please get a glass of water?”/ “get me a glass of water now!”. you don’t get the emotion. you dont get the full effect. it’s just a summary of what happened. that was the entirety of how s4 was edited and put together, and it’s like that so that the writers could fit at least 13 episodes of plot into 6. with shortened, half-assed shots put together with cuts as transitions. i dont think i saw a single fade in/out/to in the entire season. all that i’ve described - it ruins pacing when it’s half-assed, and this was no-assed. the editing, the pacing - it’s close to fucking terrible b-movie standard. this is coming out of fucking dreamworks, out of tim hendrick, out of people from motherfucking legend of korra and avatar: the last airbender. the pacing of s4 is embarrassing.
3. getting too much into the current situation of the show, and forgetting about set-up.
after s1, 2, and 3, (particularly 2 and 3) people were making up theories, pulling from shot composition, pulling from hints. and guess what?! a lot of it paid off, or started to pay off! you know why? when writing s1, 2, and 3, every aspect of the writing (characters, plot, dialogue, etc) and even the film language referenced each other. voltron: legendary defender, across its first two seasons, established a subset of film language of its own. it’s because of that devotion to referencing past events and aspects of the show that things like @koganya ‘s massive klance masterposts could be made and believed. s4 is fundamentally not a vld season because it forgot its own fucking language. there’s no clever shot composition, no clever reference to past events or episodes, nothing. it’s so fucking flat. i don’t know what happened, but we got s3 - which spent the entire time pretty much worshipping its own film language to hint at stuff and then we got s4 - where the writers got tunnel vision of their own plot-related visions of grandeur that they forgot to write a season of voltron: legendary defender. this is so fucking ignorant of their own fucking show. fuck!!!
okay thanks for reading and please share!! this guide can help when critiquing the show and since there’s gonna be a lot of that then i feel it’s super important to have these posts!!

Birthday Kiss
Here’s my gift especially for @flusteredkeith for @vldexchange Sheith Birthday Exchanges! Hope you like it!!
Summary:
Nothing beats a better birthday present than a kiss!
"Okay, cover your eyes and no peeking!" Shiro said while pulling Keith along behind him.
Keith rolled his eyes, his heart fluttering already from Shiro's hand touching his own; but no, he had to remain cool and collected. It was his birthday and he had already said that he didn’t want a party, so it wasn’t suspicious at all when Lance, Hunk, Allura, Pidge, her brother Matt, and Shiro asked Keith to come over for an irregular study session when they had already met up earlier that day.
Keith would have gone just because of this one person – Shiro. Shiro had started out as just as a friend of a friend when he had first decided to sit with them at lunch. He was also in the same course as Keith but was also two years his senior. When Keith was having some troubles with his assignments, it was Shiro who helped him out and even tutored him sometimes. Keith had never gotten along with someone that well as he did with Shiro before. They started spending most of their time together and Shiro was the closest to him out of their entire group. Maybe there was something more but Keith just didn’t want to acknowledge it, not just yet.
It had been Shiro's idea to have this birthday party. He had planned everything from the cake to the decorations: space-themed, with bright streaks of red, Keith's favourite colour. But most importantly, at this party, he was going to ask Keith out. He couldn’t stop the warm feeling Keith gave him when they hung out, leaving him perpetually flushed, redness spreading across his face and camouflaging the pink scar across his nose. They had been friends for some time – after having been introduced to Matt's sister's group, Shiro felt as though he had known Keith for forever. He really wanted Keith to like the party and he really wanted Keith to like him back. He simply couldn’t keep his feelings inside anymore; so this was it, this was his last chance.
As they stepped inside Shiro’s apartment, it was dark and quiet with everyone hidden. There was a small giggle in the darkness, – Keith was sure it was Lance, and wanted to open his eyes as he was led in. But he knew it would ruin the surprise.
"You can open your eyes now," Shiro said, letting go of his hand. As the warmth left his hand, Keith opened his eyes and saw that the room had exploded with light and people, including his group of friends, all shouting "Happy Birthday!"
Keith wasn’t surprised, not one bit, yet his mouth still widened into a huge smile but he clasped his hands over it, feigning disbelief.
"Oh wow, you guys! Thanks so much for the surprise party!" Keith said after a few moments so that the 'surprise' seemed to have had its effect on him.
---------
The party went on as a usual party would and like any usual party, there was alcohol involved. And with alcohol came the drinking games. Someone, probably Lance, suggested that they play Power Hour, this game involved one taking sixty shots of beer within sixty minutes. Honestly, Keith was one of the best in terms holding his liquor, but not even he was sure he could he make it out of this one. This was one of the fastest ways to get intoxicated in the shortest period of time – or the fastest way to get alcohol poisoning.
Then came the dare. "Hey, Keith! I bet I can beat you at this, and at your own party."
Keith turned around, where he sat on one of the high chairs at the makeshift bar. So, Lotor wants to test his luck, he thought.
An ooh went through the crowd. Challenging someone at their own party took guts, but who could resist a game like that?
Keith smirked. "Bring. It. On."
He wasn’t sure he could do it but the answer came immediately. He was never one to turn down a challenge but he knew that he could at least beat Lotor in doing the most shots. That was enough for everyone to gather around the makeshift bar and watch the death match.
Shiro stood behind the counter and shot Keith with a look of concern that said, 'are you sure?'. Keith fired a look back that seemed to say 'sure as hell I am.’  Shiro nodded, presented the first round, and started the clock.
Let the games begin.
---------
Fifty minutes had elapsed. Both Lotor and Keith looked like they couldn't take another shot. At this point, Lotor was indeed regretting this decision. He stared at the full shot glass, his vision starting to blur and his stomach churning. He wasn’t going to make it. "I'm done." He slid the shot back to Shiro and got off his seat but forgot that he was on a high chair. He wobbled but managed to catch his balance. Well, my pride is gone now, he thought as he stumbled out of the apartment.
Meanwhile, Keith, on the other hand, had downed shot after shot after shot but now had seemed to slow a bit as well.
"Keith, you don’t have to do this," Shiro whispered to Keith, hand hovering over his next shot.
"No, I can do this," Keith replied, his voice still strong and full of determination. He was buzzed, his fingers were tingling, and everything was kind of vibrating; either that or everything was happening in his head. He wasn’t sure if it was the latter, but he wasn’t going to give up that easily.
"Three… Two… One!" The crowd chanted as he slammed the last shot down his burning throat while people chanted his name and cheered for him.
Then, came the birthday cake and the presents.
But everything was happening at once and Keith's head was starting to spin. The beer is starting to kick in, he told himself, as he muttered an excuse to get out of the still-crowded apartment and get some air. He tried to remember how to get back to his own apartment. His brain felt as if every step he took made it slide from one side of his skull to another. The same thing could be said for his balance – good thing no one was watching him.
No one, except Shiro, saw him and followed him out.
"Keith, hey, Keith, wait up," Shiro called as he grabbed his jacket and jogged so he could catch up with Keith.
"Mhmm, what do you want, Shiro? I need to go home, I'm gonna crash," Keith replied, his voice wavering and his legs going weaker with each step. He could hardly comprehend what was going on.
His knees suddenly buckled but Shiro caught him just in time. "Whoa, there," Shiro said, trying to prop him up again.
"No, I think I'm just going to lie down here for a while." Keith laughed.
Okay, Keith is out of it, I should take him home, Shiro thought, trying to pull the other man to his feet. "No, no, you're not. You're drunk and I'm taking you home now. Where's your jacket? It's freezing out here," Shiro said, hands holding Keith's, a cold contrast to Shiro’s warm ones.
The October air was chilly, sending shivers down Shiro's spine, as he took off his jacket and put it around Keith's shoulders when he finally got Keith up on his feet, pulling Keith's arm around him. Keith was so out of it, his head leaning against Shiro's shoulder, his eyes half-lidded as he still kept babbling on.
"Don't worry, I got you," Shiro murmured. Keith responded by blurting out to him things about his week and little known facts about their friends.
Keith's apartment wasn’t very far away. All Shiro could think about was just getting Keith home safely. By the time they reached the door, Keith had gone down the list of their friends and was currently at Shiro.
"There's this guy that I like, he's really, really, really cute," Keith slurred. "He has a scar and fluffy hair. And he's really hot too. And brave. And kind. And charming. And a really, really good listener. I think I'm in love with him but I just can't say it to him now because it would be weird, y'know. But then… But then, I like weird and I like him soooooo much. And do you know who is it?"
"Actually, not a clue," Shiro answered as Keith got off him and fumbled in his pocket for his keys. Keith fumbled again to fit it into the lock. He opened the door and stumbled in before leaning against the doorway.
"Do you wanna know who is it?" Keith asked excitedly and Shiro sure did, remembering that he wanted to ask him out but now, his chances were ruined.
"Sure, I guess," Shiro said sadly. Out of nowhere – and Shiro wasn’t sure how Keith managed to find the energy when he was piss drunk – he stood on his tiptoes and hooked his hands around Shiro's neck.
"It's you. It's always been you and I've wanted to kiss you since the day we met," Keith said and kissed Shiro softly on his lips. Shiro closed his eyes and kissed him back.
"There! I did it! And I get to do it on my birthday, which is makes it officially the best birthday EVER! Well, I'm gonna crash, so I'll see you soon. Goodnight." Keith unhooked his arms and went inside, closing the door behind him with Shiro's jacket still around his shoulders.
Shiro touched his lips, too many emotions flooding through him that he couldn’t even describe. Keith liked him back. Keith had kissed him. Wow, he was in utter shock and completely drunk on happiness. He didn’t even remember he had left his jacket with Keith, and so he walked back to the party. He could hardly think straight anymore, for he was above the moon as love filled his heart and rosy pink flushed his face.

Weekly Voltron Fic Recs #37
Whoops, so caught up in editing and posting I almost forgot to do the rec list. Sorry ‘bout that.
Rules: You can find past weekly rec lists here, and non-list recs in my general fic rec tag. Also follow @maychorianrecs for individually tagged posts, the easier to search and reblog. This is stuff I like, and I have a huge bias toward Lance, hurt/comfort, and general fluff, in that order. Gen unless otherwise noted. Please comment on the fics if you read and enjoy them!
The Friendliest Lion by Mists Words: 6,635 Author’s Summary: One-shot prequel to “The Truth Shall Set You Free.” Set during the lion swap while Shiro is still missing, Lance finally asks Allura what qualities the Blue Lion represents. When Lance discovers she is the “friendliest lion,” it raises some of his old doubts. Also Keith overhears and begins to wonder why the supposedly “friendliest” person on the team seems to hate him. Keith and Lance friendship! Along with Lance and Allura friendship! Hope you all enjoy it! My Comments: Prequel to a previously recced fic. I really like the interpretation of Blue here, and the resolution of both Lance and Keith’s insecurity. Well, partial resolution. They both need a lot more work. But they’re trying, and that’s important.
Luxury by thebestworstthing Words: 1,527 Author’s Summary: When Keith wakes up to an incessant pounding reverberating through his skull, he chalks it up to the stress of becoming the new black paladin, drags himself out of bed to take some painkillers and promptly collapses back down into the sheets.(Or: Keith makes himself sick and doesn’t quite realise his limits until it’s too late) My Comments: A short, sweet sickfic to cleanse the palate.
Red Cub by Smoke_Wisp Words: 5,470 Author’s Summary: Before launching their attack on Zarkon and his fortress at the end season 2, Shiro talks to Princess Allura about Keith’s childhood, their relationship and why he has such faith in the Red Paladin’s potential as a leader. My Comments: Warning for child abuse. I don’t agree with this interpretation of Keith’s father, but I really like his and Shiro’s relationship in this fic. Lovely backstory, and I hope that canon is a little like this.
A Mother Comes In Many Forms by inkbadger Words: 4,332 (1/?) Author’s Summary: “A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.”–The Paladins didn’t realize that they had found a mother in one of their own- after all, Lance simply was who he had always been. They just needed a nudge to realize it. My Comments: Lance as the mom friend makes me happy. and this is an intense start to a five times fic featuring that premise. Starts out with Pidge in danger and Lance throwing himself in the way with no regard for his own safety. I can’t wait for more.
Of Broken Bonds and Corrupted Core by twilighteve Words: 17,596 Author’s Summary: In an attempt to protect his teammates, Lance let himself be captured in a rescue mission gone wrong. He thought he was ready for anything the Galra and Druids threw at him, but he was proven wrong when Haggar herself took over and tried to make him into the Galra Empire’s newest weapon. As it turns out, having the ability to manipulate the elements was something intriguing, and Haggar wanted him around to serve as the Ice Mage of the Empire. It didn’t matter that Lance didn’t want to. It wasn’t like he had a choice. My Comments: This is a sequel to previously recced fic where Lance gets ice powers. This time, most of the paladins are well on their way to discovering their elemental powers when Lance gets captured. I love love love the conclusion so much, but I don’t want to spoil it. Just read it. Great action, great team bonding.
Other by TangoDancer Words: 11,878 Author’s Summary: Alfonso watches his brother break down, alone on the porch at night, listening to a nameless person’s steady heartbeat. He watches, and he feels resentment stir into his gut, against the universe who took away his little brother and gave back this broken parody of him. Against himself, for not having stopped it somehow. Against Voltron for choosing him, and the empire for starting this war in the first place. And against this mysterious person, for keeping an essential part of his brother’s soul with them, and making it impossible for him to be happy with them the way it used to be. The way it should be. OR Lance’s family struggle to come to terms with the man their son and brother has become. My Comments: Klance, but the focus is on Lance’s family and their reactions to how the war has changed him. Quite naturally, they need someone to blame, and Keith is an easy target. Very angsty, but a great resolution.
Not As Clueless by A_Zap Words: 1,440 Author’s Summary: Pidge had always thought it was strange that despite being quite observant, Lance had completely missed the fact that she was a girl. However, it seems that that wasn’t really the case. My Comments: Look, I know in the show Lance is just kind of dumb sometimes, and that’s fine, but I love fanfic scenarios where he had some other reason for doing some of the ridiculous stuff he does. Especially when he’s actually trying to be kind, like in this fic. I love it when Lance tries to be kind to Pidge, even when she doesn’t realize that he is.
Game On by Oak_Leaf Words: 2,425 Author’s Summary: You didn’t think Pidge would let a little thing like incompatible outlets keep her from the game she worked so hard to buy, did you? The game is on, and the competition is Intense. Clichéd title is clichéd. My Comments: Super fun fic with Lance and Pidge getting unhealthily obsessed and the rest of the crew staging an intervention. I could definitely see this happening in the show.
Girl’s Night by Schistosity Words: 9,300 Author’s Summary: When Allura asked Pidge to spend a “girl’s night” with her, Pidge set her expectations extremely low.In which girl’s night takes an unexpected turn, shit gets straight up Alien (1979), and our heroes are in the vents, again. You know, normal girly stuff. My Comments: Really fun fic, feels like an episode with great characterization and action. Allura really, really wants to bond with Pidge, and by the end of it, Pidge really wants to bond with Allura too. In the middle, they are both completely badass.
All The World Will Be Your Enemy by BossToaster (ChaoticReactions) Words: 13,763 (2/6) Author’s Summary: All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a Thousand Enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed. -Richard Adams Shiro escapes the Galra earlier this time, and the Garrison take him away before Keith can break him free. Updates every 3 days. My Comments: Canon divergence AU that leads to PIRATE SHIRO shenanigans. I’ve only read the first chapter so far but I’m super pumped. The characterization is great, of course, and the scenario is fascinating.
Previously Recced Fics That Updated:
Out of Phase (14739 words) familiar (77830 words) In Sickness and Health (10575 words) Bromances in Space (25886 words) Gate Keeper (80119 words) The Machinations of Perception (32800 words) The Ones Who Were Left Behind (26599 words) The Field of Blood (10045 words) Turn Back the Clock (10610 words) Perdu (40652 words)  - now complete As Color Fades Away (74828 words) Light on the Dark Side of Me (23759 words) Truce (142252 words) Coran's Guide to the Care and Keeping of Earthling Humans (20401 words) Lost Boys (13192 words) Ten Days (22275 words)

Never My Stepping Stone
the title comes from this song, which was a suggestion from my beta :3
happy @planceday!!
link to ao3 | beta’d by @voxiferous
Summary: Pidge just wants to finish her Gen Ed requirements in one piece - is that so much to ask? Fortunately her good friend Lance is there to help her when she has a little mishap at the pottery studio. Her good friend Lance who she kinda, sorta, maybe has a crush on...
Mosaic Class AU | Plance Day Fic 2 of 2
Gen Ed sucked.
Pidge had found that all the interesting classes for a given subject never fulfilled the requirements they needed to. In an attempt to avoid having to deal with Gen Ed, Pidge had been putting off taking several classes for a couple of semesters now. However, with the spring semester of her junior year looming over her head, she had finally acknowledged that she needed to take the art classes that were required for her degree.
That was how she had ended up in an afternoon mosaics class. While Pidge had never really thought of herself as an artsy person, it wasn’t a difficult class. The professor was pretty chill, and he didn’t even care if they came in during their scheduled class period. So long as they were prepared for critiques, they were allowed to continue working on their projects outside of class hours.
Her reluctance to take the class was abated by the fact that she knew several people in her class. Keith, for instance, was a recent transfer from the nearby community college. While he was rarely actually in class, he was always prepared for the critiques. Hunk was her neighbor from across the hall. They frequently had study group together, due to being in many of the same classes. And then there was Hunk’s roommate, Lance. He frequently joined their study group, even though he was in a completely different major—political science to Pidge’s computer science and Hunk’s engineering. He had actually been the one to suggest the mosaics class to Pidge, one time when they had been pulling an all-nighter to get a final paper of his edited.
Now, Pidge wasn’t above admitting to herself that she might’ve… sort of… had a tiny crush on Lance—not that he ever seemed to notice. They were close friends, of course, but she had noticed that how he acted around someone he was actively pursuing seemed to be very different from how he interacted with her. For one thing, he never flirted with her—which she was not complaining about. However, he also seemed to drop the majority of his boastful act when he was around her—most of it was just joking, and never in an attempt to impress her. He was even considerate, asking her when she would be taking extra hours in the studio to work on her projects, so he accompanied her more often than not.
Her current project was a stepping stone she intended to give to her mother once it was completed. She had designed it so that it looked like a forward-facing lioness head, except the lioness was green, rather than tan. After spending nearly a month and a half putting the tiles into place—in between working on multiple other projects and essays—today was the day she would finally be grouting her project. However, the color tile she had chosen for the lioness head made choosing a grout color difficult. They didn’t have a wide variety of colors available and while she could have ordered green grout, she had felt it unnecessary. Eventually, she had settled on black. Lance had actually been the one to inspire the design choice, as he had made an offhand comment about how choosing black grout could make her project appear similar to stained glass.
The critique for this project would be during their next class, a week away, but she really did need to finish grouting it. Lance had been kind enough to offer to keep her company, so they had met up at the studio following their afternoon classes. She sat at one end of the table, working her project, while Lance sat a couple of seats away, cleaning up the work he had already done on his.
Of course, in her haste to leave her dorm that morning, she had forgotten her grouting gloves. Normally, the professor was very strict about having them, but seeing as the professor wasn’t there and Lance wouldn’t snitch on her, Pidge had been grouting with her bare hands. For the first hour, everything had been fine, and she had almost finished the entire project. Then, as she ran her hand over the edge of the stepping stone, she felt a sharp pain as a piece of tile slashed her palm.
She immediately cursed, drawing her hand back to look at the cut. The tile had drawn blood and she hissed as she tried to see how bad it actually was. Before she could do anything, however, Lance was immediately at her side, taking her hand in his so that he could examine the cut.
“This is why you’re supposed to wear gloves,” Lance said.
Pidge frowned at him. “Well, I forgot mine today,” she grumbled, annoyed in part because she had forgotten her gloves, but also because Lance was now chastising her for it. The cut didn’t even really hurt that badly. She was sure she had been in much worse pain when she was younger and scraped her knee after falling off her bike.
“That’s no excuse,” Lance tutted, gently taking hold of her wrist before he led her over to the sink in the back of the studio. “Just don’t start panicking,” he said as he turned on the faucet and started testing it on his own fingers first.
She gave a half-hearted scoff. “I’m not panicking.”
Lance laughed, as he brought her hand under the stream of water and began helping her wash out the cut. “Sure, you aren’t. Cuz I’m here.”
Pidge’s palm stung as the warm water hit it, but now that she was looking at it, the cut certainly wasn’t worth a trip to the on-campus clinic. While her palm was bleeding, it was not profuse, and the cut wasn’t as deep as she had originally thought it was. Still, she hissed as Lance began helping her wash out the cut. He did most of the work himself, and while his motions were slightly rough, he was taking care to keep lingering grout and dirt from getting into the cut. He seemed to be trying to keep her calm—even though she was calm—by talking. She was only half listening, but she caught bits and pieces about him being inspired by her stepping stone project to do his own.
“Except I would have made the lion blue, of course—blue is the superior color!”
She very nearly snapped at him, not because he was rambling, but because she wanted to tell him that she could handle it. However, there was something so genuine and thoughtful about his actions that she stopped herself and remained silent. It was only then that Pidge fully grasped the situation she had landed herself in by accidentally slicing her palm open on a shard of tile. She now stood in very close proximity to the guy she had been harboring something of a crush on for the last few months. Now she could feel her cheeks burning. She did manage to say a couple of words back to him, but they came out unbearably shaky—which Lance then misinterpreted as her being nervous about the cut, rather than their proximity.
Once Lance finished washing out her cut, Pidge watched as he began digging through the first aid kit that hung on the wall. He fished out a tube of Neosporin and a bandage, wrapping her palm up and fastening the bandage in place. Lance knew what he was doing, even if he had probably overdone it just a touch. A Band-Aid would have been sufficient.
“There we go!” Lance said, smiling brightly at her. “Good as new! I think I did a pretty good job!”
“Thanks, Lance,” Pidge said quietly, retracting her hand. It still stung a little bit, but she was sure that would fade in time. She wasn’t so sure that her burning face would go away anytime soon, though.
“No problem, Pidge,” Lance said as he turned his attention back to the sink and begin wiping water off the counter. “My mom taught me first aid, so you got quality service!”
Pidge bit back a retort, but she did snort softly in amusement. Really, she should just ask him out for… a coffee or something, and hope for the best. The only reason that she had never done so before was because she felt it didn’t really matter—she was perfectly happy having Lance as a friend. A coffee date was innocent enough, right? She took a deep breath and squared her shoulders before nudging Lance in the side. He turned his head to look at her, almost immediately asking what was wrong.
“Would you like to go out for coffee later?” Pidge managed, speaking much more quickly than she had meant to.
Lance tilted his head to the side, appearing confused. “You don’t need to buy me coffee, Pidge,” he assured her. “It was just a little cut. It’s not like I dragged you out of a burning building—of course, I totally would, but this was—”
“No—no,” Pidge cut him off. Her brow furrowed in annoyance and she crossed her arms over her chest. “I meant—I meant as a date?” she tried to elaborate, and cursed herself for stuttering as much as she did. Why was she so nervous about this of all things, when she had a fifteen page paper and a presentation due in two days?
Being asked out on a date by Pidge seemed to take Lance by surprise. His cheeks tinged pink, but he fell silent, and said nothing back to her. It was startling to see Lance so quiet, and Pidge felt her heart leap into her throat. The longer the silence went on, the more overwhelming the situation became, and the more Pidge just wanted to excuse herself and run away like some kind of coward.
“You don’t have to say yes,” Pidge finally said, breaking the silence. She averted her gaze to the ground, clutching her hand to her chest, cheeks going even redder than they had been before. “But I figured I’d ask since—since I kind of like you, and if you don’t want to, then—”
“Wait, wait—” Lance said quickly, cutting her off. Carefully, he reached out to place his hands on her shoulders. “I would love to, okay?” he insisted. He seemed to be struggling to contain himself, grinning and looking ready to jump for joy.
“I mean I know I’m a catch—”
Pidge snorted, rolling her eyes. “You’re a braggart—”
“A braggart you just asked out!” Lance said, grinning at her. “So, no take backs!”
Pidge couldn’t contain her laugh. “When do you want to go?”
“Right after we clean up around here,” Lance insisted. “Are you done for the day?”
Pidge looked back to where her stepping stone sat, almost entirely grouted. The bucket she had mixed the grout in was almost empty, so it wouldn’t be much of a waste to get rid of the last of it. She just needed to clean up her station and put her project back. She could come back in a day or two in order to finish up before the critique period.
“Yeah, we just need to clean up,” she said.
“Allow me,” Lance said, “Since your hand is injured.”
“It’s just a little cut—”
“Shh—” Lance said, wagging a finger at her. “You are gravely injured—what kind of person would I be if I made you clean in your state? Please, I insist.”
Pidge sighed and shook her head. “Alright… you win, but I’ll pay for the coffee.”
Lance agreed to that before he turned away to start cleaning. As soon as his back was turned, Pidge looked down at her bandaged hand. She flexed it a little and was unable to contain her grin.

I loved the pidge fic so much!! And I have another prompt! So the paladins land on a friendly planet where the residents are witches, and one of the male witches has a huge interest in Keith. Like he shows him spells and stuff and he's kinda smitten and Keith's just thinking 'wow he's cute and I might like him holy shit' after spending time with this witch boy. And only after Keith saves him from the galra does he realize he's in love and wants to protect this guy and it's all fluffy in the end!
I'm glad you enjoyedthe Pidge fic! I'm writing this after I've done writing the actualfic, and this got so long and I'm nearly in tears because of how muchI loved these two together. I didn't know what to name the other man,so I just put Y/N, as usual, but if you wanted something else, youcan always say and I'll edit it. Thank you for your prompt!
   Words:2283 {I told you itgot long}.
Witches.Of all things a planet could hold, witches was the last thing Keiththought he would see.
Hehad seen all sorts of things; weird moon dogs, fluffy creatures thatonly floated in the air; the man had even ridden a cow out of a spacemall to escape from a segway riding security guard.
Witchesjust seemed oddly normal tohim. He looked around at them all, grinning from ear to ear, becausehis childhood dreams had come true. He used to sit up at night, allby himself in his abandoned home, and just gaze up at the roof, dreaming of having powers like the ones these people had.
Allthe other paladins had left his side by the time he had seen itappropriate to actually start moving around. The witches were shylyshuffling around him, clearly not liking the stench of flames comingoff of his shirt. Allura had told him that witches had a fear offire.
Keithdidn't know what to do. He was completely lost in a world of his own, unable to compass himself to a place where he knew he wouldn't be indanger. Where these people nice? Did they mean to hurt him?
Hedidn't think so. He especially didn'tthink so when a man came up beside him – quite an attractive man ifKeith was to say so himself.
Hedidn't want to say so himself; he hadn't felt feelings towardsanother man in a long, long time. He was almost positive he hadcompletely shadowed his heart for good – that was what he washoping. Feelings were a distraction, something that could hurt aperson a lot more than any lazor could.
“Youlook lost,” the witch said, gently wrapping his arm around Keith's.Keith didn't want topull away, and the feeling was strange. Human contact usually spookedhim. “I'm Y/N. You must be one of the paladins who crashed here. You look like a lost puppy.”
Keithblushed, an involuntary smile appearing on his face. Y/N grinned backat him, seeing the smile as a success.
Y/Nled Keith through the main part of the planet, showing him arounduntil they reached a small den just off the edge of the main estate.Keith hesitantly stopped outside of it, pulling his arm out of thewitches and raising a brow at the small house. Y/N rolled his eyes, folding his arms over his chest as he stood in the doorway.
“It'sjust my home, idiot. There's nothing to be afraid of.” The witchreached out and grabbed Keith's hand, startling the paladin. Butagain, that same inner-decline to pull away spiralled up within him,and he instead grabbed the mans hands himself, letting him lead himinto the house.
Itwas fairly small, cosy. Y/N was small himself, so Keith saw why thehouse didn't need to be huge. Standing in the middle of the mainliving area was a cauldron, bubbling up with random liquid and smoke.Keith narrowed his eyes, poking his finger through the smoke andwatching it disintegrate under his brutal touch.
Y/Ntutted and slapped his hand away. “No touching. Some of this stuffcould kill you. Now, would you care for a little music?”
Keithdidn't even get to answer before the man had clicked his fingerstogether and music began to play softly from a machine Keith wasn'tsure the location of.
“Andhow about a drink? Do you drink alcohol?”
   Keithshakes his head. “I'm driving.”
Theman pouts. “Right. A paladin. I forgot. Lemonade will do. We can'thave you going home thirsty.” The witch clicks his fingers again, and suddenly Keith's arm is being lifteed and a glass is being placedbetween his fingers, carried by the air.
Keithcan't hold back his shock, looking up at Y/N like he had just savedhis life. Y/N smiled down at the paladin, finding mild amusement inhis reaction. It had been a very long time since this planet had seenpeople without magic, and so he enjoyed showing it off to people.
Y/Nsits down on a chair as Keith makes himself comfortable on the floor, crossing his legs and taking small and gentle sips out of the glass.
“So,Keith,” Y/N begins, leaning back in his seat. “Tell me a littlebit about yourself.”
Keithnearly chokes on his lemonade. “Me?”
“Yes.You. The red paladin of Voltron. That must be exciting. You must havesome war stories to swap.”
Keithdid. Of course he did. Every time he left the castle he gained a newwar story. It had never dawned on him to share them before, but assoon as the question left Y'N's lips, Keith felt the dam break.Suddenly, he was nodding and telling the man every single story hecould think of, slowly rising to his knees, then eventually leaningagainst the sofa and then eventually sitting down next to him on thesofa, waving his hands around to add exaggeration to the story.
Andthe man listens to every word. And it's weird, because Keith hadnever been the one to get the attention. Nobody ever thought Keithhad anything to say – nothing but depressing monologue that justadded to the faint hum of background noise. But Keith had experiencedthings – he had lost his family, been found out to be half-Galraonly a few months prior. He had things to say, and Y/N was listeningto him.
Thatday, Keith didn't really want to leave. As Shiro called to thewitches, telling them they would return and that they appreciatedtheir stay, Keith found himself looking for a particular witch in thecrowd. When he found them, he eagerly smiled and waved; an action henever thought he would partake in. Pidge gave him an odd look, butKeith ignored her.
Y/Nwaved back with just as much eagerness, slowly chuckling to himselfas he did so. Keith blushed and looked down at the ground, silentlypraying to whoever would listen that they would return soon.
                                                   ***
Nearlyfour months had passed since the paladins had been to the planet ofwitches. Four months of action, four months worth of battle storiesto tell the one person Keith really wanted to see – Y/N.
Eversince he left the planet he had been remembering that mans smile, thegrin on his face and the way he listened to every single story thatKeith had to share. Keith remembered him showing him how cauldronsworked, telling him off for touching the smoke, laughing along to theidiotic jokes Keith made that nobody else would laugh at.
Hisappearance had been on a running loop in Keith's mind since he left, and the moment the red lion landed on the grey rocks of the planet ofwitches, Keith's excitement couldn't be contained.
Hecried out as he climbed out of Red, nearly falling on his face withthe speed he was doing so. He landed with a thud againstthe rocks, but things turned south. As they often did when Keith hadhappiness.
Almostas soon as his feet hit the floor, Keith was shoved back and pressedagainst the leg of Red, a gun pointed to his face. His entiredemeanour changed, that famous scowl of his appearing on his face allover again as all the other paladins were forced into the sameposition.
Keithfound himself looking around despite the lazor gun pressed to histhroat. Y/N? Where is he? Where is anyone? The Galra had done something – kidnapped them, killed them.
Keithfelt the panic settle in before he could even decipher between thelikely option. Could the Galra really kill an entire race off? Keithdidn't want to believe it, because that would mean he would have tocome to terms with the fact that Y/N was no longer alive.
    Y/N isn't dead.He showed me his powers. He's good! He's okay!
Keithwas panicking. Pidge was yelling his name, and it was only then didKeith realise that there was, indeed, a fight persuing. He gruntedand threw his head forward into the Galra who was holding him. TheGalra was too busy gazing at Keith's panicked demeanour in confusionto really pay attention to his movements, so getting him off of himwas easy enough. The Galra grunted and stumbled backwards, givingKeith just enough time to snatch his gun out of his hands and shootit into the creatures chest on his own.
Thefirst Galra was down and Keith continued to shoot, running throughthe sea of enemies, all whilst searching for that one face he wantedto see most in the world.
“Keith!Keith, stop! You're going too far in!” Shiro yelled after him.Keith had spotted something in the distance, though and stopping wasno longer an option. He barrelled through the Galra in seconds, running on nothing but adrenaline which would eventually exhaust himwhen he came to a stop.
Buthe didn't plan on stopping any time now.
Hecould see the train-cart at the side, could hear the screaming on theinside of it, the banging of hands. Multiple of them were set upalong the planet's boundaries, and Keith felt a wave of disgust atthe sight. The Galra had nerve, he could give them that. Coming ontoothers peoples planets, hurting the people who lived there, hurtingthe man Keith loved-
Henearly stopped running as the thought crossed his mind. A splutterescaped his mouth, but it wasn't just a thought. Itwas a realisation, a reminder that Keith could feel and that he couldlove even after so long of being completely numb to any emotion butneed.
Andthen he was running faster, unhinging the first train cart door andallowing the witches to pour out from it's confines. Keithfrantically searched the faces, looking for one in particular but hewasn't there. He wasn't there!
Keithlet out a cry of annoyance, gripping the lazor gun tighter. He couldhear the witches spiralling towards the war-zone, casting spells fromtheir fingertips and destroying the Galra in their way with a newfound hope.
Keithmoved on to the next train cart and unhinged it. No sign of Y/N. Hemoved on to the next one – the last one.
Everybone in his body screamed forthat face to show up, because Keith refused to let the one person whohad allowed him to feel again die at such a thing that he was meantto stop. It was him that was in charge of killing Galra; that was hislegacy. He was a paladin for that very reason.
Hegroaned outwardly, not caring about the witches giving him strangelooks as they ran past him in waves. He inspected every single face, every little detail, until the man he wanted stumbled out of thetrain cart, coughing and wheezing.
Keithdidn't know whether to feel relief or annoyance or sadness. He wasn'tlooking particularly healthy, but Keith understood why. Keith didn'twant to waste another moment and instead dropped his lazor gun to thefloor and sprinted towards the man in question.
Y/N looked up, rubbing at his hair as he did so. As soon as he sawKeith, his bruised eyes widened in surprise and his jaw fell open, his arms outstretching just in time for Keith to barrel into hischest and lift him up, spinning him around.
“God,Y/N,” Keith exclaimed, not knowing what else to do. Did he kisshim? “Are you okay? How badly did they hurt you?”
Y/Nraised a brow as Keith let him slide to the floor, but he kept hishands on the boys torso, not wanting to let him go. “The onlyperson who hurt me was you for taking so long to come back.”
Keithnibbled on his lip, looking down at the ground in shame. Four monthswas a long time. He had felt every god damn second.
Y/Nsighed and ran his hands through Keith's hair, pushing it out of theway of his face. “But you're here now, and you look better thanever.”
Keithgrinned, looking up at the witch through his eyelashes. “I missedyou.”
Y/Nraised a brow again, a sly grin appearing on his face. “Youdisappear for four months, come back and save me, and you have thatto say?” Keith falters. “I think there's something else you wantto say to me. Don't make me say it first. It's always been my dreamto have somebody else say it to me. Preferrably in the rain, withchampagne and him being shirtless, but in the middle of a war wouldbe good too.”
Keithsmiles brighter than he thought he had ever smiled. He shakes hishead and says, “I love you.”
Y/Nsmiles back, winds his fingers around Keith's neck and pulls him infor a long kiss. When the two pull away, Y/N  leans his head againstKeith's forehead and whispers, “I love you too, Keith Kogane.”

A Blue CatAstrophe Ch.7
AHAHAHAHA I LIVE!!!! Thanks to all the nice people who encouraged me during my little writers block/motivation slump period! Have a chapter with plenty of Shance and Pidge being a geek! :)
Ch.1 Ch.2 Ch.3 Ch.4 Ch.5 Ch.6
Shiro was internally screaming. Very loudly. His head was actually ringing at this point, with Black laughing like crazy in the back of his mind. He was currently pacing his room, face redder than Keith's Lion. Lance was Azul. Lance was a cat. The very same cat that had calmed him from a nightmare and slept in his bed on his chest. Black very kindly told him that he should calm himself before he overheated and fainted. He kept pacing, half sure there were marks from his shoes on the ground from the rate at which he was going, back and forth in an oval. He stopped pacing and hid his face in his hands with a groan.
He was not handling this crush well at all. At first, during the whole Balmera incident, he'd just been worried over a teammate, but then he'd felt something flutter in his heart when Lance had come out of that coma to shoot Sendak. And then it slowly evolved from there into a full blown crush with every laugh, every smile, and though he'd tried to push it down, it never worked, and eventually he'd wanted to start pulling a Keith and punch every alien Lance flirted with in the face out of pure impulse and spite. Which was why he hadn't wanted Lance on Kolkar at the alliance meeting, because he didn't know if he could handle seeing Lance flirt with another alien again. He didn't think he'd be able to stop himelf from bitch-slapping someone with his activated arm if he saw one more damn sentient being actually flirting back with the gorgeous Blue Paladin.
He smacked his head into the wall at his own thoughts. With a sigh, he decided to go work off some of these emotions at the training deck, then go check on Pidge. He rubbed his forehead, and headed out.
Pidge dashed about the room, setting up testing areas and hooking up wires to Green, her laptop running a hundred codes a minute as she processed the pollen, and Lance was exhausted just watching her. So, he settled for sprawling lazily across the warm keyboard of the laptop and purred at the heat spreading through his fur, and fell into a sort of half-asleep state, ears pricked and listening to Pidge babble to herself in Science mumbo-jumbo.
“Okay Lance! I need you to step into this scanner real quick.” Pidge explained, motioning to one of the weird metal boxes that were open at both ends, and was hooked up to the computer. Lance grumbled and got up from his napping spot, moving towards the box and stepping through, moving slowly as Pidge instructed him. Pidge hummed and sent the results to Coran, who was using a tablet to communicate with the youngest Paladin from down on Kolkar, and began flipping through a microscope with the pollen on a slide. Lance stood nearby, ready to shove Pidge aside in she accidentally breathed it in. Wait, hold on a minute. Lance jumped down, padded over to where she'd left her packet of surgical masks with Green, and started nudging it towards his tiny teammate.
Pidge looked up, and grinned. “Oh yeah! Thanks Lance. I almost forgot to put one of those on. Good thing Coran worked it out when I told him I needed something like this. The replication part of the ship is fascinating! I'll have to see how that works later...” She said cheerfully, then slid on a mask over her mouth and nose, testing her breathing for a minute before nodding and going back to the slide, Lance staying close by on the little table.
“Hmm… yeah, looks like this was made to specifically alter genetic structures into it's most primitive form, and I guess the most primitive form on Kolkar is some sort of feline-esque creature.” Pidge muttered, stepping back from the microscope and beginning to pace back and forth in front of Lance, who was now lying on the table, tail twitching idly as he watched her move back and forth.
“But, thanks to Blue and her Quintessence, plus you not being from Kolkar, it just edited you into a cat by tearing apart your current- at the time, at least- cellular structure and rebuilt it from scratch… Lance, dude, holy shit. How are you even alive?!?” Pidge yelped, turning to her fluffy companion and scooping him up, shaking him in astonishment. Lance hissed, disliking the sudden movement. His ears pricked up when he heard the door slide open and Shiro walked in.
Pidge whirled on him, trapping Lance in her arms and leaving his hind legs and tail to dangle free, the cat himself looking very uncomfortable by this. “Shiro! Man, you won't believe this! Lance shouldn't even be alive! The pollen doesn't just change your DNA, it completely strips it down and rebuilds everything from scratch!!! His entire cellular structure was rearranged in less than an hour 'cuz he got covered in so much pollen! Blue's Quintessence merely made the change happen faster because he couldn't feel it, which I guess was Blue's primary objective when she did it, but it also kept him alive! If a normal human went through that, they'd be dead!” Pidge trilled, as Shiro steadily got paler and paler at the news.
“Uh… lucky Lance, I guess?” The Black Paliadin asked, somehow keeping the shudder out of his voice. Pidge let Lance go and turned back to her computer, quickly typing out notes. Lance grumbled at her and trotted over to where Shiro had slid against the wall to sit down and process the information. He jumped into Shiro's lap and mewed questioningly, worried at Shiro's pale face and shaky breaths. He was immediately cradled in two arms, and a face was buried into his fur, again. They really had a thing for his fur, didn't they?
“So I pretty much almost got you killed.” The words that were muttered into his back had his ears flicking back to make sure he had heard correctly. “I am so sorry, Lance. This is all my fault… I made you feel bad enough that you ran off and got caught up in all of this… I should have tried to be more considerate of your feelings and listened and been more encouraging… maybe then you'd still be human and not...” The leader of Voltron let out a shaky breath. Lance mewed and wriggled until he could nuzzle Shiro's face, purring up a storm and trying to convey that it wasn't his fault.
Blue rumbled in agreement, though she did also add that he should have included Lance in more missions than he did. Overprotective much? He huffed at her for that. There was no way in Hell, Heaven or high water that Shiro felt the same as Lance. Nope. Nu-uh. No way. Blue laughed, saying that he was certainly funny if he believed that. Lance lashed his tail and told her to hush, grumbling under his mental breath.
Suddenly, Coran burst into the room, half dragging Allura and a vial of purple shimmery liquid. “We've figured it out! Pidge! I need some help with this, but I believe that if we create a batch of this that's diluted for human use, we can cure Lance! If we manage to figure that out, then Allura can use her ability of Quintessence manipulation and reverse the change!” The excited Altean trilled loudly, Allura nodding in agreement as she pulled out of her Advisor's grasp. Pidge looked up and nodded excitedly. “Perfect! I was just running calculations on what exactly would be needed to dull down any pain felt during the reversal process.” She chirped, pushing up her glasses and grinning. She looked over at Shiro, who was looking much better now. “Shiro, hold onto Lance for a minute while we set everything up?” She asked, smiling at the nod the Black Paladin gave her in response.
Both man and cat watched in fascination as Pidge and Coran talked biology and schematics for diluting the antidote, as apparently that plant, called Felisiviny, had turned plenty of unwary Kolkarians into a cat like creature called a devecias, which were like a cross between a lynx and a tiger and a German Shepherd with scarlet macaw feathers along its ears and tail, along the jaw fringe too. Then, Shiro and Lance were dragged to the med pods, where Coran programed one to the proper dilution percentage, fed in half the vial, and pulled Lance from a reluctant Shiro's arms and started up the med pod.
Allura got ready, as the antidote had to be breathed in, and Lance was set at the bottom of the pod. He looked up, mewing in concern. “We'll see you soon, buddy. Don't be afraid. Allura will fix you right up, okay?” Shiro soothed, giving Lance one last head rub before standing back and letting the pod seal shut. Lance yowled and put his paws up on the glass, panicking as purple mist flooded the chamber.
“Allura, now! For as long as you can, just picture Lance as his normal human self.” Coran instructed, as Allura glowed with the golden light of Quintessence. She held out her hands, and focused on Lance. Pidge secretly hit the mute button on the pod, because she knew this was gonna hurt, and she didn't want to be haunted by Lance's screams. Shiro tapped his metal fingers against his arm, worried and pale again.
It was a mere 12 hours before Allura gave out, her powers still relatively new. She panted and slumped to the ground, wheezing and exhausted. “I- I have done what I could, but manipulating two similar streams of Quintessence that are deeply entertwined is harder than it first seems.” She explained, as Coran helped her to her feet. Keith and Hunk had wandered down during this, and everyone waited with baited breath (and Hunk with an extra pair of boxers for Lance) as the pod opened up and spilled purple mist.
Shiro was the first one forward as a human shape fell out of the pod and into his arms, Hunk right next to him and draping a blanket over the shaking form that was clutching onto Shiro like a lifeline. Shiro inhaled sharply as a soft, fluffy shorthaired chocolate colored tail with lighter brown stripes brushed against his leg, and pointy cat ears flicked up and heard the noise he made. Lance, human yet with cat ears and a tail, who stopped shaking and went limp, unconscious. Shiro really hoped he wasn't blushing right now, because if it wasn't the cutest thing he'd ever seen in his life then he might as well shoot himself out into space this very second.
“Oh dear. Perhaps I did not untangle the knot of energy as well as I thought I did.” Allura murmured from the back. The shocked silence was broken by Pidge and Hunk's twin cooing noises and Keith's “Holy quiznak, what the hell-”. Shiro really wished the universe would give him a break here.
Black laughed.
// *RISES FROM THE ASHES OF WRITERS BLOCK LIKE A PROUD AND BLOODSTAINED WARRIOR* I LIVE~! Also I come bearing Shance and cat eared Lance :) So uh, how is Lance gonna react to all of this? I dunno, you'll have to wait and see ;)

The Start of Something New Ch. 4
I'm excited for this chapter. I think it's a good one. When I got done writing the first draft, I thought the tone might've been a bit off, but I actually liked how everything played out when I was going through edits.
Anyway, enjoy the update!
Also on AO3!
Keith woke with a gasp, unsure at first where he was and why he was waking up in a strange place. He’d been dreaming about his time in the sex house and things had taken a nasty turn which was why he’d been pulled from sleep so harshly. Slowly, as his heartrate began to settle and he took in his surroundings, he remembered where he was and what he was doing there.
He was safe. For the moment at least. He had clothes and a bed and food. He wasn’t being used. He wasn’t chained up and he wasn’t enslaved. Repeating the thoughts helped. He wasn’t rudely awakened by a new customer and grasped the blankets that were bunched around him to ground himself, still amazed that he got to sleep with those the night before. He reluctantly pulled himself from bed and walked into the bathroom. He needed a shower and was more than a little excited that he wouldn’t have to try and wash himself from a bucket.
The bathroom was sleek and shiny, well-kept and clean. He cocked his head as he stuck his head into the shower stall, being met with two knobs and something that would hang over his head. He stripped out of the medical suit that he’d been put in the day before and stepped into the shower stall, pulling the door shut behind him. He reached for the knobs and twisted the one on the right experimentally.
Freezing cold water crashed down on his head and he spluttered, stepping backwards to try and get away from the spray. He wiped the hair out of his face and shivered, now noticing the small blue line that was on the knob he’d turned. The one on the left had a red line and he turned that one, pleased when the water warmed to a mild temperature. He smiled, happy that he was able to figure something new out himself.
Keith washed himself slowly, enjoying the feeling of the warm water and the soap on his skin. It was nice to wash away the dirt that had accumulated and it left him feeling far cleaner than he probably ever had been in his entire life. Even when he was allowed to wash particularly well because someone important was coming to the house, he never felt as good as he did now. He was reluctant to leave the warm water behind, but his growling stomach drove him from the safety and peace of the bathroom and back out into the large halls of the Castle.
He wasn’t sure if anyone else was up yet and didn’t encounter anyone as he worked to retrace his steps to the places that he’d visited the night before. Eventually, the sound of voices drew his attention and led him back to the dining hall where a few people were eating breakfast. The other liberated prisoners looked happy and he wasn’t sure if it was because of the rest they’d gotten and the warm food or something else entirely.
Keith was relieved to find that Shiro was at the table. It would give him one familiar face among the several others who were already deep in conversations between them. He walked over to the table slowly, trying to draw as little attention to himself as possible and tapped Shiro on the shoulder to get his attention. He looked up from his food and immediately smiled.
“Keith! Just in time. Take a seat and have some breakfast,” he said, already reaching for a plate to fill with food.
Keith pulled out the chair next to Shiro and sat down, eyes going wide when a plate stacked high with goo was placed in front of him. He looked up at Shiro, a little shocked.
“Oh,” he said, taking in Keith’s alarm. “Don’t feel like you have to eat all of that. I wasn’t sure how hungry you were. And to be honest, I’m more used to knowing how much I could eat so that’s my fault.”
Keith nodded and picked up a spoon, poking at the goo before taking a small bite. Despite being surrounded by so many people and the amount of chatter that was happening around him, his appetite only diminished slightly and he didn’t find himself becoming too anxious, surprised at himself for how different his reaction was to the day before. He also appreciated that Shiro didn’t try to talk to him while he was eating. He just sat next to him and finished his own meal in silence, letting him work through his food.
When he finally had to push his plate away because he couldn’t eat another bite despite over half of the goo being left was when Shiro turned to him.
“Do you mind coming to the communications room with me? I have something that I’d like to ask you.”
Keith felt his stomach tighten, a sense of uneasiness immediately taking over his brain.
“It’s not anything bad,” Shiro said, waving his hands frantically as he must’ve seen the worry blooming on Keith’s face. “I promise. It’s just what you want to do now that you’re free from the sex house.”
Keith relaxed slightly, but nodded stiffly and pushed his chair back to follow Shiro from the room. They walked back through the hallways to the room that they’d been in the night before, the path slightly more familiar than it had been. He sat down at one of the monitors and pulled up the program that they’d been using the night before as he waited for Shiro to start speaking.
“Last night, Matt found a planet that has resources for everyone who was just liberated. We want to drop all of you off somewhere safe because we know that we can’t keep you on board when we’re still fighting the Galra. It would be too dangerous. The rest of the people who were locked away with you are looking forward to being let off at this planet to move on with their lives.”
Keith felt his panic begin to rise at the words. The thought of having to interact with even more people and try to build a life for himself was even more terrifying.
“But you don’t have to go if you don’t want to,” Shiro continued.
Keith looked up at him, eyes going wide and mouth dropping open.
“You seem to have gotten comfortable over the past day with being in the Castle and if you want to accept the risk by staying here, you can. We’re giving you a choice in whether you want to leave or not and we won’t force you to do either. It’s completely up to you.”
Keith continued to stare at him. The emotions hit him strongly, stealing his breath and making his heart nearly beat out of his chest. It took him a moment to decipher what exactly he was feeling. First, and foremost he was happy that Shiro would take the time to consider his feelings in such a way. Or that he’d come to understand him so quickly was amazing in and of itself when he hadn’t even spoken. He felt relief because for a while longer he could still have a sense of equilibrium. It would minimize the amount of surprises that he would be faced to deal with. Even if the ship was attacked by Galra or some other group of aliens, he would still have somewhere he belonged and would be treated with respect.
Shiro began to fidget in his seat and he realized that several moments had passed and he still hadn’t said anything.
“Are you okay, Keith? That wasn’t too much of a shock, was it?” he asked, nervously.
Keith finally managed to close his mouth and he smiled softly, shaking his head. He turned towards the keyboard and typed out two works rather quickly. He was getting the hang of working with the computer.
Thank you
“’Thank you,’ huh?” Shiro said, looking disappointed. “I guess you would want to leave and move on with your life after everything that’s happened. I understand.”
Keith furrowed his brow, wondering what Shiro was talking about when he realized that he hadn’t exactly answered Shiro’s question. He shook his head quickly and bent over the keyboard.
I meant thank you for the choice. I want to stay.
“Oh,” he breathed. He smiled at Keith so sweetly, that he nearly forgot how to breathe. “I’m glad.”
Keith swallowed and looked down at his hands in his lap.
“Do you want to see more of the ship? I can take you around to the training decks and show you where Pidge works in her lab? I know that you’ve been in the Black Lion already, but I could take you down to the hanger if you want?”
Shiro was so earnest in his statements and his desire to spend time with him was so evident that it made Keith blush. He peeked up at Shiro through his eyelashes and saw that he was biting his lap and kept glancing away from him. Keith nodded and Shiro grinned.
“Come on, then!” he said, pushing his chair back and holding out a hand to Keith.
Keith stared at it for a moment before placing the tips of his fingers in Shiro’s palm. Shiro gripped his hand firmly, but not tightly and pulled him from the chair and from the room.
“We can go to Pidge’s lab first. It’s on the way to the training rooms and I’m sure that she’d love to see you since the rest of the Paladins haven’t gotten the chance to talk to you very much.”
They twisted and turned through hallways and Keith tried to keep track of where they were, but soon his mind became too overwhelmed from the identical corridors that he just gave up in trying to understand where Shiro was taking them.
“Pidge used to work in the middle of the hallway for a while. Her machines and projects built up and we decided to give her her own room so that she’d have a place that was entirely hers to work with.”
Shiro came to a stop in front of a large door that had the Green Paladin symbol painted on it. He pressed a button off to the side, making the doors slide open. The room was filled with machines of every shape and size. There were several piles of spare parts and other piles that looked like they could be spare parts or were projects that were half-finished, Keith wasn’t really sure. One table pushed off against the wall had several monitors on it that looked like they came from the communications room and were displaying various images or documents.
Amidst all the chaos, Pidge was bent over a table in the middle, clearly hard at work on something that Keith couldn’t make out. She looked determined in what she was doing and was tapping away at a tablet next to her.
“Morning, Pidge!” Shiro greeted.
She tapped out a few more commands before looking in their direction.
“Morning Shiro! And Keith! Just the person I wanted to see,” she said, hopping down from her stool and picking up the tablet device to walk over to where they were standing.
Keith cocked his head at her, unsure as to why she would be looking for him.
“I have something that might interest you,” she said, stepping next to his side and holding out the tablet. Keith watched as her fingers moved expertly over the keys. “It’s pretty much good to go, I just need to do one last systems check to make sure there aren’t any bugs that I didn’t catch. But you can access a Castle map here so that you know where you’re going. This will tell you if anyone is in the different rooms of the Castle in case you need to find someone or want to know if the training room is available. This button over here will pull up an input screen where you can type out what you want to say like you’ve been doing in the communications room. And this last little red one here is a distress signal in case you ever need help. It sends it to all of us so that the person who’s closest will come and find you. Just try not to hit it accidentally. So, what do you think?”
Pidge grinned up at him and Keith could only stare at the tablet. No one had ever held such consideration for him or taken the time to do something so considerate. He reached for the tablet with shaking hands and Pidge handed it over easily. He pressed the button for the input screen and began to slowly type.
Thank you. So much.
It didn’t seem like enough, but Keith didn’t know how else to put what he wanted to say into words.
“I’m glad that you like it!” she said and held out her hands for it back. Keith gave it a little reluctantly. “Don’t worry. You’ll get it back in two ticks.” She hurried back to her table and plugged a wire into the tablet, tapping out a command on the opposite device. “I stayed up pretty late last night getting everything set up and was happy that I managed to get most of it done this morning. I didn’t want to take too long getting this put together for you because I knew that it would be something that you’d find useful. And I thought that you could take it with you if you decided to leave the ship. There we go!”
Pidge pulled the cord from the tablet and hurried back over to Keith. “It’s all yours now!”
Keith smiled and hugged the tablet to his chest. He’d never been given something like this before, or had one person put so much thought into something for him.
“Thanks, Pidge,” Shiro said.
“No problem. I’m just happy to see that Keith is doing so well so soon. You’ve only been here a day, but it’s like you’re already part of the family. It’s going to be weird not seeing you around the halls.”
Keith cocked his head, confused by Pidge’s statement. For one thing, they hadn’t even seen each other in the hallways so he wasn’t sure why Pidge would think that she wouldn’t see him at all. And then he remembered that Pidge didn’t know that he was staying. She thought that he would be leaving with the other passengers aboard the Castle. He quickly opened the input document and began to type. Pidge watched him and waited as he held the tablet out for her to read.
I’m staying on the ship
Pidge gasped and looked between Keith and Shiro. “He’s staying? He’s really staying?”
Shiro nodded. “Yeah. I just explained the situation to him before we came to visit you and he said that he wanted to stay.”
“I’m so glad!” she exclaimed before wrapping her arms tightly around Keith’s torso.
Keith tensed at the contact and held his arms up and away from where Pidge was, unsure of what to do. He looked over at Shiro who was watching them with obvious amusement. He looked back down at Pidge, warily and waited as she slowly let go of him and stepped away.
“Sorry about my excite-oh, did that make you uncomfortable? I suppose I should’ve asked before getting in your personal space. I’m sorry, Keith.”
He shrugged, but still hadn’t relaxed from the unexpected contact.
“Why don’t we go on with the tour of the Castle, then? You can get the hang of using your new tablet and I can show you where we are on the map?” Shiro asked.
Keith nodded and began to fiddle with the icons until he had the map pulled up.
“I’ll just get back to work then,” Pidge sighed, turning back to her worktable.
“We’ll see you later then. Remember that we’re meeting at the bridge for our wormhole to the planet after lunch.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll be there.”
Keith watched Pidge where she was hunched over her worktable.
“Keith? You coming?” Shiro asked.
He nodded, giving Pidge one last look before he padded out of the room after Shiro.
“Now that that’s done, we can go on with the rest of our tour. Can I see the map?”
Keith nodded and held out the tablet.
“We’re right here,” he said, pointing to a room that was labeled ‘Pidge’s Workroom.’ “We’re going to keep walking down this hallway and then we’ll get to the training rooms.”
Keith nodded and looked over the rest of the map as they continued to walk.
“You know…Pidge has come a long way since we all started working together as the Paladins of Voltron. She wanted to leave to find her father. Matt wanted to find him too, but he was the one who helped convince her to stay, saying that by forming Voltron, they’d have the best chance of success and resources to fight the Galra and free him.”
Did you find him?
Shiro read over Keith’s words. “Not yet. We’re still looking though. We have some strong intelligence as to where he might be and we’re doing everything we can to help other people as we make our way towards where he is. It’s still hard sometimes. I think it might be a little harder for Pidge than Matt, but…I hope that we find him.”
Me too
“Thank you, Keith. I’m sure that Pidge and Matt would appreciate that a lot. Ah, here we are,” Shiro said, opening another door. “There are several different levels of training and a couple of different decks with equipment. This is the one that we use the most often because it has simulators where you can fight a hologram opponent and work on your combat skills. I don’t know if you’re interested in something like this, but I can show you how the equipment works later if you want.”
Keith nodded and Shiro let the door slide shut again.
“Great! Now I can show you where we keep the lions. They should all be in their individual bays after yesterday and since we might have to take them out again today. If you want to see the other lions, I’m sure that Pidge, Hunk, Lance, and Matt wouldn’t mind introducing you to them. But for now, I can just show you Black.”
Keith followed along behind Shiro as he tracked their path on the map, having an easier time of remembering where they’ve gone now that he could actually see it. He barely noticed that they’d passed through another doorway until Shiro said something to him.
“Keith?”
He looked up and found himself face-to-face, or as close as he could get with a giant robot lion standing in front of him. His eyes widened and he let the tablet fall to the side. He couldn’t really believe that he’d actually ridden in that thing the day before.
“I had the same reaction the first time that I saw one of the lions,” Shiro said, amused.
Keith pointed at it and arched an eyebrow in question.
“You can get closer if you want.”
Keith walked forward, eyes roving over the large robot. Now that he was seeing it for the second time, he didn’t feel quite as nervous as before, but he was also more familiar with Shiro and that helped to keep his nerves in check. As he got closer, he felt a strange prodding at the back of his consciousness. He looked up at the Black Lion in question and cocked his head, trying to grasp at what was nagging at him.
The harder that he prodded, the more it seemed to shrink away as though it were getting further away from where he was. Once the feeling had completely disappeared, it left him with a deep curiosity and need to find out what it was, but he had a feeling that the answer wasn’t in the room with him. Perhaps it was somewhere else in the Castle. He’d have to take some time to explore.
“Do you want to go inside?” Shiro asked.
Keith looked back at him and shrugged and nodded.

Okay, so I just finished Voltron Season 2 and: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
Short, spoiler-free version: I have a few things to take issue with, but as a whole I absolutely LOVED this season. *screeching* !!!
Long, spoilery version under the cut
Starting with my three big complaints before this devolves into excited screaming:
1. They’re still going with the Hunk food jokes. Like. Please. The mall cop episode (which was fantastic, by the way) did Chef Hunk right--he’s competent, he knows what he’s doing, he’s cooking in a way that obviously a large number of people like, AND he actually taught Sal how to cook?? Like oh my god, Hunk is the best space Gordon Ramsey, yes! A lot of the other episodes, though, are more of the same old tired fat jokes. Hunk’s always hungry. He’s always talking about food. He’s always making shallow food metaphors. We get it. I’m really hoping the writers cut it out in season 3, or at the very least continue to shift the focus toward other aspects of his personality.
2. I’m more than a little salty that we didn’t see half the team’s reactions to Keith being Galra. Like... I didn’t need a “reveal scene” (we got that with Shiro, and I loved that it was a shock that immediately turned into a non-issue.) What I wanted was the kind of thing we got with Hunk--the aftermath, and the other paladins figuring out how they feel. Hunk’s stuff was great, tbh, and Allura’s was pretty good (a little disappointing that she was so harsh with Keith, but I get it. She’s lost a lot to the Galra and all very recently.) I just wanted...something. Something with Pidge and Lance, at least. Some interaction that wasn’t in the middle of a battle anytime after the reveal. Maybe that was supposed to be because they were all so rushed trying to put their plan into action, they didn’t have time to process. Maybe we’ll get Lance, Pidge, and Coran’s responses in season 3 (god I hope we do). I just wanted more emotional fallout from the reveal (or support. Support would be good too. Somebody give my son a hug.)
3. Everything else can basically be summed up with, “Why isn’t season three here yet??” I wanted more of a lot of things, and I get that you can only fit so much into thirteen episodes, especially when the plot was so BIG. Holy shit you guys, so much happened in this season. So, yeah, I really wanted more Lance development (more Hunk, too). Klance? Shallura or Shatt development?? Keith and Pidge??????? The team was split up for so much of the season, and fighting battles the rest of the time, that a lot of relationships got shafted. I’m not overly bitter about that, but I am hoping we get that relationship development in season three.
Okay. There’s my salt, now time for the screaming: (Sorry, intermittent caps lock because I couldn’t control myself.)
AAAAHHHHHH OH MY GOD GALRA KEITH!!!! I have never been so alive! Fuck. I’m so happy (lack of fallout with Lance and Pidge aside. Dark Voltron season 3, give me an episode specifically dedicated to Pidge’s reaction to Keith being from the same race that took her family.) I’m choosing to imagine that Pidge has bottled up any reaction she may have had, and that it won’t come out till things have calmed down (or she’s stuck alone with Keith) and that Lance considers it such a non-issue that he had no reaction, and for him to be surprised when Keith is wary around him after that last battle.
ALSO????? I’m so happy that Keith’s mom is apparently the Galra??? I jsut?? YES??????
MATT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my GOD Matt! Matt’s out! Matt’s with rebels! REBEL MATT HOLT HOLY FUCK! I need season three like yesterday, and it had better have Matt Holt, Rebel soldier/spy/hacker/medic/literally anything. I’m so freaking happy Pidge actually got a chance to search for her family--and FOUND SOMETHING! Ahhhh!!!
HAGGAR’S ALTEAN! HAGGAR’S ALTEAN!! HAGGAR’S CANONICALLY ALTEAN!!!!! I so called this, and I could not be happier!! Augh!! I screamed! I screamed so much holy fuck
DRUID ALLURA????????? What???? I need more of this. What happened? Is she using magic or just redirecting it?? How?? Why???? Is she going to learn more???? Allura being badass with that staff was awesome, but imagine Allura charging into battle with her staff a deadly blur and a lightning storm swelling around her oh my GOD MY QUEEN!
WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO SHIRO????? I’m so scared for him, oh my god?? But, like, in the best possible way. He’s not dead (I hope????? Don’t kill Space Dad, Dreamworks, PLEEEEEASE!) But we can still have Black Paladin Allura in season 3?? And maybe even Matt Holt, Rebel (TM) saving his boyfriend???
SHIRO AND KEITH OH MY QUIZNAK! “You’re like a brother” haaaaa Okay, I’m dead. “My live would have turned out a lot different without you” *screeches* I still want more (mentor at the Garrison? Foster brother?? How??? do you know each other?????) ((Presumably not forever, because Shiro didn’t know anything about Keith having a knife, but still???????))
ALLURA CALLING CORAN A SECOND FATHER AUUUUGH JUST KILL MY NOW MY HEART x.x
The heITH in that one episode?? Or like... at all??? Keith joking? Hunk making Galra Keith jokes? THem workibng togethera and thanking eachother and Hunk standing up for Keith when Allura’s tyring to ingore him???????? AUUUUUUGGGGGHHHHHHH
Klance Emperor’s New Groove AU???? Oh. My god. Like. We didn’t get much Klance this season, but we got them cliMBING UP AN ELEVATOR SHAFT like pros?? I die.
KEITH’S FRIEND FROM THE TEASER? Who are you?? Are you Matt? Are you WITH Matt’s rebels?? What did you need the Weblum secretion whatever for?? Why aren’t you talking??? Are you mute?? Are you a lady rebel?? Please be a lady rebel! (Mute or nonverbal lady rebel, y/y?????) *whispers* season threeeeee
Space spore snowball fight!!!! I’m so happy!!!! Lookit my son Shiro being a kid!!!!!!! Lookit Keith and Lance flirting with glowy space goop. :)
Pidge/Tech continues to be my otp
Shiro? Getting pushed past his limit by what’s his name. Slav? W/e. I died. Even Space Dad’s patience isn’t infinite.
When Keith was asking Coran about whether Galra have ever been to earth and Lance is RIGHT THERE? LIke??? You’re in the middle of your facial regimen, Lance, what happened? Did you hear Keith’s voice and  immediately sprint to the door??
Pidge having a gay squish on Alan Turing??
Ryner??? Is??????? So great?????? My biologist daughter????????? Also she came so close to the “we’re all made of star stuff” quote and I just? Die??? hONESTLY, season three needs to bring back her, Shay, and Nyma and let them be badasses.
FORM BLAZING SWORD!!!!!
asdfghjkl;
There’s tons more I’m sure, but my brain is on complete overload right now and I just. I can’t. Frick.
EDIT: I cannot believe I forgot: Pidge is SO NOT CIS!! Like! Frick! The bathrooms! Which were conveniently color-coded in a way that’s consistent with Earth bathrooms. In a way that Keith didn’t even stop to think about. But Pidge??? Is at the very least much more aware than Keith that the gender binary is a social construct--and you could very easily make the argument that she was debating whether aliens have the same biases as humans. Should she risk using the girl’s bathroom? Does she pass by alien standards? What even ARE alien standards for gender conformity? All this to the point that she’d rather just hold it.
(On that same note: trans Hunk? y/y)
((On a closely related note, rewatching the mall episode: Keith pulling Hunk onto the cow is weirdly adorable?? This season is gonna make me ship Heith more than ever, frick.))
I think I need to rewatch this for character/ship tags now, kthanx. Feel free to yell at me about anything!

Bitch and Fix: Hunk Edition
I just want to start out by saying that I am PISSED about the way that Voltron treated Hunk this season. And I am absolutely going to complain about that, but then I’m actually gonna offer a few solutions that fix some of the issues the show created by basically forgetting half of Hunk’s character. WARNING: I will be bashing the fuck out of season 2 and the voltron writers. That doesn’t mean that I didn’t enjoy the season as a whole.
Problems Throughout the Whole Season
Bitch
WAS IT REALLY NECESSARY TO HAVE HUNK MAKE A FOOD RELATED COMMENT EVERY FUCKING EPISODE? WAS IT? NO! NO IT WAS NOT! Hunk likes food, sure, but not that much. He certainly didn’t make that many comments about it in season 1. Just- no. It’s not that funny, and it’s pretty insulting to imply that all he cares about is how hungry he is. Sidenote: I’m not going to mention the jokes on a episode by episode basis because there are so many of them that it would be a gigantic waste of my time.
Both scenes where Hunk gets stuck in a hole. Like the first one was bad enough, but the second one was too much. Just- that’s so tacky. It’s a terrible and insulting fat joke that nobody finds very funny.
All the sleeping jokes- thanks for making him look like a lazy slob. NOT
The fact that he was sidelined the whole time to make room for other people’s development. It you have to completely erase a character’s personality in order for your other characters to have development, you aren’t a very good writer.
NO CENTRIC EPISODE!!! WHAT THE HELL!!!! EVERY SINGLE PALADIN GOT ONE BUT NOT HUNK???? (Shiro and Keith got multiple ones)
Fix
Get rid of every single food joke. All of them. None of them add anything to the episodes. The only two food related things I would keep for the season would be the Hunk cooking scenes (both in the mall and when he made the lens cookies), because they’re both somewhat relevant to plot and they emphasize Hunk’s cooking ability rather than emphasizing how obsessed with food he is.
Either have some other reason why he gets stuck (his head, or his bayard ejects, or his foot gets caught on a seaweed piece or something) or don’t have him get stuck at all. I’ll talk more about Hunk getting stuck in “The Depths” when I start going episode by episode. I honestly see no real reason for him to get stuck in “The Belly of the Weblum” at all.
Just replace these sleeping scenes with Hunk focusing on some engineering thing, like super focused, and then snap out of it. Same effect, but makes him look smart, not lazy.
I will discuss this on an episode by episode basis.
The best episode to make a centric, in my opinion, is “The Belly of the Weblum”- I’ll discuss this more when I get to this episode.
“Across the Universe”
N/A. Hunk’s not even really in this episode.
“The Depths”
Bitch
It all really centers around the fact of the way Hunk was sidelined so Lance could be the savior. Which, fine. Lance needs his time to shine. But there was a way to do that without the fat jokes. HE GOT LEFT BEHIND BECAUSE HE WAS TOO FAT TO FIT THROUGH THE HOLE? WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TRYING TO FAT SHAME YOUR AUDIENCE? Honestly I have seen the “too fat to fit through a whole” as a trope in the past, but I have reached peak tolerance with this bullshit. Honestly the next time I see this stupid trope I’m gonna scream.
Fix
Ok, there are a lot of different ways to fix this so you still end up with Hunk left behind. He could get stuck for some other reason that has nothing to do with him being fat. Or, Lance could sleepwalk and stumble upon the rebels. Or, they see Lance first, but don’t have enough time to grab Hunk. Or, Hunk sleep punches them out, or literally a hundred different ways to do this without making a fat joke.
“Shiro’s Escape”
Bitch
Not enough Hunk. We always need more.
Fix
More Hunk. Offering suggestions, being his smart self.
“Greening the Cube”
There is no episode that pisses me off as much as this one does.
Bitch
The whole thing with the fixing of the shield. You’re telling me that HUNK, THE ACTUAL ENGINEER OF THE GARRISON TRIO, DOESN’T UNDERSTAND ENGINEERING TERMS FROM CORAN? ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS? WHAT KIND OF BULLSHIT IS THAT CRAP? OHHH MANNN I A SOOOO PISSED.
HUNK, ENGINEER, HAS NO INTEREST IN THE PLANET OF ENGINEERS? NO INTEREST MY ASS!!!!! OHHHH MANNN IT’S LIKE THEY FORGOT ONE OF HIS CORE PERSONALITY TRAITS. He has like four main ones: food, anxiety, engineer, friend. Like, how hard is it to remember? Look, I get that Pidge needed her time to shine, but this is honestly insulting to Hunk’s character.
Hunk doesn’t understand the engineering tree thing. He should have been able to light one of those trees up as well as Pidge. He’s clearly brilliant, if the first season is anything to go by.
Fix
The easiest way to fix this is to have Hunk fixing some other part of the shield. He can’t be over there to deal with what the other paladins are dealing with, so Pidge fixes the problem. He tries to offer an explanation that’s just as unintelligible as Allura’s and Coran’s, and there you go, Hunk looks smart and we still have the same scene. Easy peasy.
Ok, the way to deal with this is to have him have a reaction similar to Pidge’s when she meets the robot (i.e. silently freaking in the background). Or, have him be equally involved as Pidge, with him offering a supporting role to her freakouts.
Just have him do the tree thing. Maybe in the background or something.
“Eye of the Storm”
Bitch
Hunk not giving two fucks about what weirdo chemicals he baked in is a little weird.
Hunk is the engineer- why isn’t he the one helping Coran? Sigh
Fix
Have him be a little concerned over it. Possibly, have him and Pidge learn Altean together- good Hidge bonding moment!
More Pidge and him- have them figure out the thing with the cookies! Tech buddies! Bonding! Excellent stuff!!
“Ark of Taujeer”
Not much to complain about here! Hunk discovering a new lion power! Very good stuff! Him single-handedly holding up the ship to save it from certain death? There’s my boy. The only improvement- make this the Hunk-centric! More Hunk! (Repeating thing of Hunk helping out an alien people- like the Balmerans)
“Space Mall”
Bitch
Hunk getting in trouble for eating all those free samples- yet another fat joke- could have found a different way to get to this scenario.
Fix
A couple of different ways to get to this situation. Hunk could intervene in a conflict between the manager/owner and a customer. He could either a) Be roped into dishes along with the customer or take their place or b) Challenge the owner and have a possible cook off. Or, Hunk could try one food thing, find it disgusting, and insist on taking over the kitchen.
“The Blade of Marmora”
Bitch
Yet again, barely any Hunk. Man, they really sidelined the other characters for Shiro’s and Keith’s development.
No reunion post Galra!Keith revelation. Where were our reaction!faces
Fix
More Hunk. My response to nearly everything this season. Maybe more of him worrying over what’s going on down there?
Hunk reaction face- we know how he feels in “The Belly of the Weblum”, but I would have loved to see his first thought at finding out the news.
”The Belly of the Weblum”
Bitch
This really should have been a Hunk-centric episode. This episode had more time for Hunk than any episode other than “The Depths” which was established as Lance-centric. Keith should have been given less screen time with ‘mystery Galra’ give Hunk more screen time. He’s a little too goofy in this one (especially him getting stuck-again), but this is a better episode than most for Hunk.
Fix
The only other episode that could have been a centric was “Ark of Taujeer”, but that’s also got a lot of Allura and Keith stuff. In this episode the only people that Hunk has to fight for screen time are Keith and ‘mystery Galra’. Keith had his own centric and was featured heavily in several episodes, so it wouldn’t matter to much if he was sidelined for this episode. Have Hunk be responsible for the majority of the smart stuff regarding the Weblum, and just spend more time on him figuring it out. Also remove some of the “bumbling” crap. Hunk’s not an idiot.
“Escape from Beta Traz”
N/A. Hunk’s not in this episode and it doesn’t really make sense for him to be.
“Stayin’ Alive”
Sad about Hunk and Shay not getting to see each other again, but it doesn’t really fit within the context of the plot. Also, would love to have seen Hunk and Pidge helping Slav with the teludav.
”Best Laid Plans” and “Blackout”
Since these are basically one big finale, I’m gonna talk about them together.
Bitch
Like many times throughout this season, and like anyone who wasn’t Keith or Shiro this season, Hunk is sidelined once again. He doesn’t have much going on beyond fighting in his lion and as Voltron.
Fix
One big standout moment for Hunk- that really emphasizes his awesomeness as a paladin.
Final Thoughts
They better give him a fucking arc in Season 3 or I will blow a gasket. Hunk deserved better this season.

Note
i didnt understand like half of that im apparently having a stupid day. or week. wait so people dont switch between languages usually? my stepmum who is chinese, i dont think she does this anymore, i havent heard her do it since she came to australia, but when i was in china with her, one time she accidentally started speaking chinese to me and english to the store clerk we were talking to. is that sorta what you mean??
Yeah! But let me add onto that, because I want to make sure that, like, I’m clear. Though somehow I think I may just end up more confusing.
Like, if my Spanish teacher said something in Spanish, I’d respond in Spanish (or try to; words I didn’t know or remember, it was fair to substitute bc it was a beginners class - but only at first. She wanted us speaking in ONLY Spanish, even if it was bad Spanish, eventually). If a classmate spoke to me directly after in English, it was natural to respond in English, like it was my reaction to speak in Spanish (though, speaking in Spanish took more effort bc I wasn’t fluent).
So, using them both is often, but - and here’s what I’m trying to say - Lance and other characters who are fluent in multiple languages wouldn’t have problems switching between languages the way a lot of White Writers (and I’ve been guilty of this in the past) like to portray it. (The word here is portray. We’ll get more to that.)
And the whole littering of dialogue (any English fanfic that still uses Japanese suffixes is a fair example of this, given they never explain why Japanese suffixes are being used in the place of English prefixes (like the dubs do; Mr. and Ms./Mrs. instead of -sensei/-san, Lord/Prince and Lady/Princess instead of -sama, and there’s not really a suffix equivalent of -kun or -chan. For someone younger “Little [name]” would be the equivalent, but otherwise - nicknames - Soul Eater fanfic is the most prominent culprit of Japanese suffix abuse in awkward places that I’ve ever seen bc it’s not even consistent on whether or not they’re using the suffixes or prefixes) even though the characters may not even know Japanese and are fluent in English, but that’s a convo for another time. Back to Spanish and dual-languages)…
Littering of sentences randomly with Spanish when speaking English doesn’t happen unless you a) forget a bunch of words and are speaking w another person who speaks Spanish/English (more likely, you’re stopping your sentence to ask “wait, what was the word for example?”), b) there’s no equivalent (the Korean concept of kibun comes to mind, our closest equivalents in English being “pride, dignity, honor” -  if you hurt someone’s kibun, you hurt their pride, damage their dignity. Also, mistranslations caused by improper localization - Japanese express “I love you” with the (translated) phrase “the moon is beautiful” (with the implication that it is beautiful bc you are there with them), or c) you’re trolling or making a pun (which is very common, but mostly done w someone who can truly appreciate it), d) those are the actual names of stuff and not, in fact, random words at all (implication that they have no name in English. Quesadillas, for example).
So, there’s context for switching languages.
Like, me speaking Spanish with my Spanish teacher, practicing Spanish with classmates - but speaking English with my family. Like, Lance would use English (fluently, mind you) with the Paladins, because English was what they all spoke, and have very little reason to use Spanish unless he was teaching them Spanish or they knew it.
He wouldn’t just slip into Spanish talking w people he usually talks to in English anymore than I’d have used English talking to my Spanish teacher (noob exceptions aside).
Which is where I get back to the portrayal bit.
It is so painfully common in Voltron fics for Lance to just slip into Spanish for no discernible reason, whether it be phrases (90% of the time google translated), random words (and I do mean random), or just, you know, the author wanting to throw in more (google-translated) Spanish bc…? fuck if I know??
When writing a character who’s bilingual, it’s good to know the context in which they’d use a different language (Lance is Cuban, so if you told me he speaks to his mom in all Spanish, I’d believe you, but if you told me he just starts slipping into Spanish with, say, Pidge who doesn’t (for our purposes) know Spanish at all with only the excuse “sorry, it’s hard to switch (to English)” and no context as to why he’d suddenly start doing so when he never has before…? No event or special train of thought?? Just opens his mouth in middle of conversation that was all-English and starts using Spanish (I’m going to once more emphasize google translate Spanish because this has been such a common phenomena of White Writers being completely fuck-all with Lance and Language, L&L, and this isn’t even getting into Lance talking dirty in Spanish, but I will mention the phrase “pass the queso” which was an official “add some dirty Spanish to vocab” thing from forever ago, I don’t even remember if it was on a book, magazine, or an add anymore - ‘queso’ meaning cheese, so, fail there) for literally no discernible reason than the author felt like it and had no understanding of the kind of context that’d prompt someone fluent in two languages to switch languages.
(Another note: I do, personally, say no bueno when something really bad or cringey happens. I picked up the habit from a friend from Arizona - but there is the context, huh? No bueno as a response to something cringey.)
Shockingly, I haven’t seen as much of the (well, if I got into the attempts about Lance’s dirty talking, I wouldn’t hesitate to call it fetishizing, because that also happens a lot and the same writers who throw in random bits of other language, google translated 90% of the time (because the people who ask for an actual speaker of the language to help them usually don’t do this randomly and then the use of the second language feels, you know, like the person actually cares about the language and isn’t using it as a throwaway in an awkward spot - but I’m not getting into the dirty talk bc that means getting into a ship that I’d rather not bc it’s since been ruined for me by it’s fandom, so we’ll go with a gentle) misuse of language with Shiro or Keith? Eh, I’ve probably just missed it.
I forgot my original point here, so,
tl;dr I think I was trying to say people do use multiple languages, but not randomly. There’s usually a reason they use one language over another. A native Spanish speaker might speak Spanish with their family and English at the work place and French with a friend who’s learning French and German with someone else in private (or not), and they might mix up the rules (understandable and not unusual) or forget a word and substitute OR get mixed up when Spanish Mom and French Friend both talk to them (,, it can be HARD to keep conversations straight I send people the wrong message all the time when it was meant for someone else, so, like, UNDERSTANDABLE) if that makes sense
edit: and that there are Voltron writers who should probably do a little more research and ask themselves if there’s an actual reason for inserting Spanish (or Japanese, or Korean), or if it’s just there so they can say they have Spanish in their fic even if its use doesn’t make a lot of sense at all.
edit 2: but it’s almost 2am so anything else that makes me feel like I need a more in-depth answer (even if partially for my own sanity and not bc I think the other person actually *needs* it, fine line there - what I do for myself and what I do for others/based on my opinion of others) will have to wait until tomorrow. Maybe even after I get off work in the evening

VLD Season 2 Trailer
Ok because I love Voltron and am currently hyped up because of the trailer and I can’t wait for season 2 that’s in 15 days!!!! I have decided to analyze/look into the teaser and trailer. Why? Because I’m bored and I wanna see where this takes me. If you wanna discuss something with me then send me a message ^.^ (Even if it’s something I haven’t covered)
So let’s start with the teaser. You know the one. The one that wasn’t the trailer. The one they lead us to believe was the trailer. That one. XD
1) Shiro says if he doesn’t make it out of here he wants Keith to lead Voltron.
2) At the end of season 1, all the paladins are swept away separately by the worm hole to who knows where. I think the places they have ended up in the Teaser are right after this incident.
3) It seems like Hunk and Lance are together. Pidge seems to be alone. And perhaps Keith and Shiro ended up together because Keith is looking at the Black lion.
4) So this leads me to believe that Shiro and Keith ended up in the same place and they got into trouble. Shiro thinks he isn’t gonna make it and tells Keith that if he doesn’t then Keith should lead Voltron. (Idk how he comes up with that conclusion because they have only been presented to have a connection with certain people and there needs to be five people and if Keith takes over the Black lion...SOMEHOW.....then who the heck does Shiro think is gonna take the Red lion?)  So anyways, that’s the thing that I think will happen....you know...instead of Shiro dying, because he has a lot of potential and can’t really die yet....at least maybe not till the end of season 2.  Hunk and Lance are together in this underwater place....and Pidge is alone in a rocky area.
5) But when they are next seen, all five paladins and lions are together. Flying in space and different places and able to form Voltron.
6) Shiro is then shown to be looking at something, I believe while he is standing in the Castle of Lions. The things he is looking at seem to be rocks or crystals floating in space.
7) Then we see Zarkon and Haggar from behind. The Galra seem to be attacking the planet...and it looks like they are going to war.
8) Then we get a shot of Shiro looking....exhausted? Stressed? Losing hope?
9) AND THEN there is this guy that I forgot the name of....Ok it’s Thace. He is looking from around the corner, perhaps spying on someone. Is it Shiro? Zarkon? The other Galra soldiers? Who the frig knows. (I kinda think it’s Shiro because the shot before was of him...)
10) This is where things start getting...difficult. I think the Galra are attacking this one planet and maybe stealing the quintessence.... The paladins show up and attack....
11) Then we get a shot of Zarkon. It’s like he is....teleporting? I think it might actually be some mind connection thing because it only shows HIM and not the ship or anyone else...
12) There is this weird part where Allura is standing looking less than pleased with whoever is kneeling to her. At first I thought it was Coran because of the orange-ish hair but then I saw the armor and hands....
13) Then there is a new character shown...with a knife/dagger/sword thing and a mask. I think this is the person that was kneeling to Allura... A part of me has a theory but I’m not gonna talk about that here. This person’s hands are purple....Maybe Galra? Maybe....the one guy that helped them escape at the end of season 1? But I doubt it because of the hair.... So maybe it IS Coran but he is disguising himself as Galra? Like....I really have no clue...maybe it’s just a brand new character...
14) Now here is the thing I’m worried about and MAYBE it was edited just to freak us out but we get images of Hunk, Lance, Keith, and Pidge in the lions and them again before it shows Voltron and just....WHERE THE FRIG IS SHIRO!?!?! A part of me wants to say they edited him out to freak us all out but idk....
15) So now we get that haunting call from Keith asking if Shiro is there as we see Shiro walking away and into a light/towards a door.
So now onto the OFFICIAL TRAILER!!!
1) Ok I had several thoughts running through my mind but here is one that I quickly snuffed out. At first I thought Lance and Keith were the ones to be in the underwater city in the teaser. Looking back on it now, that is not the case. So wtf are they doing undressed? And it’s only them??? Like....beach episode????
2) So the trailer starts and we get a recap of season 1.
3) Zarkon tells Haggar that there is no place in the universe that he can’t see....Huh....That’s kinda new <_<
4) There are those crystal things again...You see them everywhere in the teaser...
5) “Set a course for Voltron” Ok...you wanna know what that makes me think? That he can only see certain parts of the universe because that is where Voltron is. So why is it that he hasn’t done this before? He just went by what anyone told him regarding seeing Voltron and then planned his attack. I think it has something to do with either quintessence, Shiro’s Galra arm, that newcomer, or uhh..the popular Galra Keith theory....
6) I think it’s Shiro though because he has been the focus, he has a Galra arm, and he is the leader of Voltron and has a connection with the Black paladin which is what Zarkon used to be. So both might have a connection to the Black lion and Shiro has heard voices in his head before. That was either from PTSD or maybe that Galra arm is more than just some fancy alien tech....(tracking device anyone?)
7) You bet Zarkon keeps finding you and knows how to track you down, SHIRO. I doubt its a coincidence that Shiro was the one to say this...
8) Pidge is all like “Idk how he found us but it wasn’t with normal instruments” LIKE...ARE YOU GUYS SEEING THIS PATTERN I AM SEEING?!?! XD
9) And Allura can’t find anything on the ship that might be a tracking device or something....
10) So yeah Lance and Keith are the only ones in towels and shorts like....did they really go to a beach? How come everyone else is clothed? (but seriously...that beach episode.... XD )
11) They keep focusing on that “Finding us” thing....Like...Pidge, Hunk.....you two are the tech geniuses here.....Why did neither of you guys even bother to question Shiro’s arm? What’s it made of? How did he get it? Does it have a tracking device? Why did they give him an arm with such great tech in the first place? etc, etc...
12) So yeah...last we saw the paladins they all were swept away in a worm hole, separated, apparently found each other, and now back together. Shiro is with them....at least that is good.... Bad things might happen at the end of the season though...
13) So they are standing on something near the end when Allura says they are always stronger together. First off....where are they? Reminds me of the Garrison a bit.... Second, well that sure wasn’t foreshadowing ANYTHING. Nope. Nothing. Nothing at all. <_<
14) Then we see Lance and Hunk in the underwater place. There is some person, not a paladin, maybe an alien, that placed their hand on a tree and it starts to light up....maybe they are helping Pidge? Shiro faces a ferocious looking alien creatures....
15) Here comes that “new character” again. WHO ARE YOU?!?! Allura didn’t look pleased with you in her sights and it says you are an ally but..... <_< I don’t trust you? At least not yet...
16) Keith helped this new person out...so that’s cool. I doubt it’s Coran anymore because well....Why the mask if its Keith, you know? And Keith and this new person fight together....
17) You know....this new person looks Galra...and I think has the body type of a female.....And just...Idk if the Galra Keith theory turns out to be true maybe this is someone he should have known? Like a sister? Mother? Future girlfriend? (if it IS a female anyways) But it just seems like Keith and this person have SOME kind of connection to each other, even if that connection is rivals, hatred, familial, romantic, platonic, etc, etc...
18) Now for one of the most interesting things about this trailer. Shiro and Zarkon. They look all spectral-y and surrounded by purple-ish light and tbh I think this is some mind connection with the Black Lion... I guess they are gonna fight over the connection for it so whichever person can control Voltron. Btw Shiro looks pissed o-o
Ok so yeah. Basically here are the more important/plot related things: - Voltron keeps being found by Zarkon through unknown means - The paladins are separated - New worlds, characters, allies, and enemies - Galra is up to something (as usual) - They find their way back and meet a newcomer - This newcomer and Keith might have a connection to each other - Team Voltron doesn’t understand how they keep being found - Something is gonna happen to Shiro - Zarkon and Shiro might have a battle of wits/determination/power for the Black Lion... -Lots of intense scenes, battles, and action -Beach episode when? o3o
- Most importantly, you wanna know what I saw? A complete lack of Matt Holt <_< XD
