its the fact that Polites was the voice of good and hope on the ship, and rlly he was the leash that kept Odysseus as a prideful but relatively okay man. So his death symbolizes the beginning of Ody's regression arc in both literal and figurative ways - after he's gone, Ody can justify whatever if he tries hard enough.

Smitten Jeng is the most smitten ever. I do love the power move of renting out entire sections of restaurants as a way to love someone without having to declare it outloud. And he doesn't just rent out the whole place but he brings in flower, preoders their food and generally makes sure everything is perfect for them because he is taking a final shot at this and doing his absolute best even if his best is awkward and shyer than he intends it to be.
