English Language Day
English Language Day is celebrated on October 13 to commemorate the day Parliament was opened for the first time by a speech in English, in 1362, rather than in French. The day also celebrates the universality of the language, and how it has evolved over the centuries. Scholars believe that there is no true version of the language, as over 7,000 variations of English can be found in the world right now. English has also adopted many words from other languages. Other than speech, English has also become the primary language for movies and TV shows, literature, and music.
History of English Language Day
The English Project launched the world’s first-ever English Language Day on October 13 in 2009. English Language Day is celebrated to commemorate October 13, 1362, when Parliament was opened for the first time by a speech in English, instead of French. In the same Parliament, a Statute of Pleading was approved that allowed members in debate to use the English language. This made English the official language of law and law-making.
English is a vast language. There are more than 250,000 words in an Oxford Dictionary — minus a lot of technical, scientific, and slang words. English is probably the only language with as many synonyms for many of its words, largely because of its enormous absorbing capacity — borrowing words from as many languages as possible, including German, Greek, Portuguese, French, Latin, and even the language of the colonies where it became widespread. Years of colonialism meant that English now also had words from Asian, the Caribbean, and African cultures. The English language has always been eager to adopt and adapt words and phrases from other languages. The willingness to adapt itself is probably what makes English so different from other languages, such as French.
The English language is easily the most broadly used and spoken language on the planet, and it enjoys a good reputation for adapting words, concepts, and cultural influences from around the world. This adds to the language’s enormous vocabulary, one that is full of odd rules, spellings, and grammar. English Language Day remembers and celebrates the incredible popularity of the language and even its eccentricities!
English Language Day timeline

So I'm totally going to finish my current WIP (I've got maybe two chapters to go? Three if I count the epilogue) but I've been playing with the idea of the grandson of Lorrimer Van Helsing (who is also named Lorrimer and looks like young Peter Cushing) hunting down Dracula in 90s New York City. I'd be using Dracula A.D. 1972 canon this time around rather than The Horror of Dracula.
Not only have I played with the idea, I've got one chapter written and I'm sort of loving it? The heroine wears baby doll dresses and fights off Dracula with her custom Betsey Johnson bag which coincidentally is decorated with a big bedazzled cross. I've got a title and I pulled it from a Cranberries song and there's lots of Hammer Studio Easter eggs throughout! This might be too self indulgent to post anywhere, but I don't know.
Meanwhile my original fic is staring at me all appalled like that girl in the meme where her boyfriend is blatantly checking out another girl
#mara writes#this post is complete nonsense to 99% of everyone here i'm sorry#i don't even have my ao3 linked haha

History
December 25th - Christmas Day, commemorating the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. Although the exact date of his birth is not known, it has been celebrated on December 25th by the Western (Roman Catholic) Church since 336 A.D.
December 25, 1066 - William the Conqueror was crowned King of England after he had invaded England from France, defeated and killed King Harold at the Battle of Hastings, then marched on London.
December 25, 1776 - During the American Revolution, George Washington took 2,400 of his men across the Delaware River. Washington then conducted a surprise raid on 1,500 British-Hessians (German mercenaries) at Trenton, New Jersey. The Hessians surrendered after an hour with nearly 1,000 taken prisoner by Washington who suffered only six wounded (including future president Lt. James Monroe). The victory provided a much needed boost to American morale.
December 25, 1868 - President Andrew Johnson granted general amnesty to all those involved in the Civil War.
December 25, 1926 - Hirohito became Emperor of Japan.
December 25, 1989 - In Romania, a television broadcast of a Christmas symphony was interrupted with the announcement that Nicolae Ceausescu and his wife had been executed following a popular uprising. A pro-democracy coalition then took control. Ceausescu, a hard-line Communist, had been ousted from power after ordering his black-shirted state police to suppress a disturbance in the town of Timisorara, resulting in the deaths of an estimated 4,500 persons.
Birthday - Isaac Newton (1642-1727) was born in Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire, England. He was a mathematician, scientist and author, best known for his work Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica on the theory of gravitation. He died in London and was the first scientist to be honored with burial in Westminster Abbey.

I don't think that Hytham was 17 at the start of AC: Vallhalla.
On the wiki it says that Hytham was born c.855 (or approximately around 855 A.D), so it is possible that he is a few years older then 17. Based on his appearance and how he acts in AC: Vallhalla, I've always thought Hytham was around 19-20 when he first met Eivor. There's is also the fact that 855 A.D hasn't been confirmed as his canon birth date.
Also if he was born in 855 A.D, that means he will be 12 years old in the upcoming tie-in novel The Golden City by Jaleigh Johnson. (The events of the novel takes place in 867 A.D)
I don't think that the Alamut Brotherhood would give a 12 year old (who probably hasn't finished learning all the basic skills, all Hidden Ones should know and master) the task of uncovering a Master Assassin's true loyalties, along side trying to stop an Emperor's plot to assassinate his own son.
My guess is that Hytham will be at least around 15 years old during the events of the upcoming novel. (Which would put his birth date somewhere around c.852 A.D)
*I apologize if this duplicate ask. My internet unfortunately cut out when I sent this ask the first time.*
Hi nonny,
This wasn't a duplicate. I think the first one didn't send :(
You raise a good point since Hytham is... strangely a big focus on a few novels (The Golden City and Sword of the White Horse, it's almost like he's a fan favorite, shame he isn't romanceable, eh, Ubisoft...) and the Golden Sword's 852 would mean he's 12 years old.
Unfortunately, unless someone has the novel "Assassin's Creed: Valhalla – Geirmund's Saga" and showed us which part of Chapter 23 says that Hytham is born approximately around 850 CE, we'll have to take AC wiki's word for it.
There's also the possibility that The Golden City would shed more light on his real age as it seemed to be set in his POV.
I mean, I think it would be funny for Hytham to be in his late teens in Valhalla because that makes his character more like a teenager trying to act mature to show his mentor he is ready (and maybe to impress a certain older Viking, hhmmm) but I did think that Hytham was around 19 to 21 years old during the main game when I was playing it. He just has that... 'just graduated' feel to him. XD
Although, Raza Soora looks like he was around 12 - 13 years old during the time of Assassin's Creed: Brahman and Connor left on his own to find Achilles when he was 13 years old so it won't be surprising if Hytham was 12 when the novel happened. The whole 'figure out if Basim is a traitor' is much harder to accept.
Although, considering that people can get married by the age of 14 during that time period, is it really that much of a stretch if the council in Alamut were dumbasses who thought a 12-year-old can sus out if a Master Assassin has turned rogue?
Let's also not forget, this is from the company that keeps saying Altaïr is 25 during AC1 when AC1 is set on June 1191 and Altaïr was born on January 1185 so he was 26 years old when AC1 happen. They don't have a good track of keeping ages and this is Jaleigh Johnson's first novel. I won't be surprised if she wasn't informed of Hytham's birth year in the other novel.
#ubisoft doesn't have a good track record on continuity#assassin's creed#hytham#is hytham a twink?#is he not?#idk#ask and answer

SAINTS OF THE DAY FOR MAY 28
Bl. Thomas Ford, 1582 A.D. Martyr of England. He was born in Devon and educated at Oxford. There he converted and set out for Douai, France. Ordained a priest in 1573, he was sent back to England three years later. Thomas labored in Oxfordshire and Berckshire until his arrest. He was martyred on May 28 at Tyburn by being hanged, drawn, and quartered. He was a companion of St. Edmund Campion, and he died with Blesseds Robert Johnson and John Shert. Thomas was beatified in 1882.
Bl. Robert Johnson, 1582 A.D. English martyr. Born in Shropshire, England, he was a servant before he went to study at Rome and Douai, France, receiving ordination in 1576. Returning to the English mission, he served in the area of London for four years, until his arrest. Robert was hanged, drawn, and quartered at Tyburn with Blesseds Thomas Ford and John Short. Robert was beatified in 1886.
Bl. John Shert, 1582 A.D. English martyr. He was born at Shert Hall, near Macclesfield, Cheshire, and educated at Oxford. Converting to the Church, John studied at Douai and Rome. Ordained in 1576, he went to England three years later, working only two years before his arrest. John was martyred at Tyburn with Blessed Thomas Ford and Blessed Robert Johnstone by being hinged, drawn, and quartered. Pope Leo XIII beatified him in 1886.
Bl. Margaret Pole, Martyr of England. She was born Margaret Plantagenet, the niece of Edward IV and Rich-ard III. She married Sir Reginald Pole about 1491 and bore five sons, including Reginald Cardinal Pole. Margaret was widowed, named countess of Salisbury, and appointed governess to Princess Mary, daughter of Henry VIII and Queen Catherine of Aragon, Spain. She opposed Henry’s mar-riage to Anne Boleyn, and the king exiled her from court, although he called her “the holiest woman in England.” When her son, Cardinal Pole, denied Henry’s Act of Supremacy, the king imprisoned Margaret in the Tower of London for two years and then beheaded her on May 28. In 1538, her other two sons were executed. She was never given a legal trial. She was seventy when she was martyred. Margaret was beatified in 1886.

ACHTÜNG! BULLDOZING THEIR WAY THROUGH THE UK IN YEAR ZERO: 1977 A.D.
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on summer/fall UK dates (from a July issue of "Sounds") for the 1977 joint MOTÖRHEAD/COUNT BISHOPS tour, plus record advertisements for the Bishops self-titled debut album on Chiswick Records, and Motörhead's debut LP released in August of the same year and on the same label.
MINI-OVERVIEW: "Lemmy called THE COUNT BISHOPS a ”very good” band and, once he formed MOTÖRHEAD, the two groups developed their own shared history. Both were sharing a bill on what was the first tour for the “classic” Motörhead lineup of “Fast” Eddie Clarke, “Philthy” Phil Taylor, and Lemmy. It was the ill-fated 1977 "Beyond The Threshold of Pain" tour.
Dave Tice remembered:
“It was a doubleheader, MOTÖRHEAD and COUNT BISHOPS together because we both had albums out at the same time on the same label, Chiswick. It was supposed to be 30 odd shows, but it ended up being three. We did the first couple and then got to the third, in Torquay, on the South coast of England. We were getting great crowds up to that point. The Count Bishops did their bit that night and Motörhead did their show. And later on, just as we were getting ready to go to sleep, Motörhead’s roadie came knocking on our door, crying, having a fit, because he’s just had a falling out with Phil (Taylor) which turned into a fisticuffs scuffle. They fell down the stairs and Phil broke his wrist. That brought an end to the tour after three days.""
