9-1-1 REACTION
This reaction is for the season 6, twelfth episode "Recovery" which originally aired March 20, 2023. This episode was written by and directed by. Spoilers ahead!
***LAST TIME ON 9-1-1***
After getting struck by lightning in the last episode, Buck is placed in a medically-induced coma where he experiences a world where he never became a firefighter and the brother he never got to meet never died. After being reminded of his importance to those around him, Buck finally breathed on his own and regained consciousness.
Now that we're all caught up, let's discuss episode twelve - RECOVERY.
The episode begins with a flashback to one of my favorite moments in the history of the show. We see Hen and Buck use the key that Bobby gave them to enter his apartment and they find him passed out from drinking too much. They help get him cleaned up and then we hear him utter the word "help". It's one of the most heartbreaking moments of the series but this is also the moment where Bobby, Hen, Buck, and Chimney become a family.
We then get a new flashback showing Bobby at his first AA meeting since moving to Los Angeles. Bobby meets and talks with Wendell (Maurice J. Irvin) and it was nice to see Bobby in a position where he's the one who needs help instead of him being the one who everyone goes to when they need assistance or advice. Bobby is very reluctant to open up to Wendell and you know what, I totally get it. Knowing Bobby's tragic history, I can't say that I blame him for being a little guarded. Plus he's probably feeling like such a huge failure for relapsing. Thankfully Wendell does manage to get Bobby to open up even if it's only a little bit and Bobby confesses to him that he's lost. It is so lovely to see everyone around Bobby - Hen, Buck, and Wendell - be so non-judgmental. My heart really goes out to those who are struggling with addiction of any kind because I reckon it must feel at times like walking a tightrope with no safety net knowing that at any moment, you could fall off.
In the present, Bobby tells Athena the medical examiner has finally gotten Wendell's toxicology report back. As it turns out, Wendell did die of a drug overdose. And since Wendell didn't die on the premises of the Winding Path (the treatment facility) the authorities are closing out his case. This news doesn't sit well with Bobby. He brings up the fact that there have been over a dozen investigations into Winding Path but nothing even sticks. Bobby suggests talking to Tamara, the young woman from Winding Path that May tried to befriend, but Athena reminds him that when May brought up Wendell, Tamara put a stop to the conversation and shut down communication with May. Bobby says he will be the one to talk to Tamara this time. He believes she will talk to him since they are both in recovery and they both knew Wendell. Athena hesitates, at first, but says there might be a way to make this happen.
Bobby finds Tamara at her job and approaches her. He introduces himself as May's stepfather and tells her that Wendell was a really good friend of his. Bobby says that Wendell was a good man and he did not deserve to die alone in an abandoned lot. Tamara tells Bobby that Wendell didn't die in the abandoned lot. When Bobby presses her for additional information, she lets him know that she did not meet Wendell at Winding Path - she met him before that. Wendell only checked himself in at the treatment facility to help her. Tamara lets Bobby know something's up at Winding Path and Wendell was out to prove it. She tells Bobby he needs to let this go otherwise he will end up like Wendell.
Title card!
Speaking of recovery, Buck is still recuperating from being placed in a medically-induced coma after being struck by lightning. Maddie shows up at his apartment with groceries and being that she's his big sister, she's been fussing over him which is obviously annoying him. When Buck insists that he is fine, she reminds him that he died (for three minutes) and no one knows what the long-term repercussions are going to be. Hearing that Buck died was very sobering to hear as a viewer. Buck reminds her that Maddie has a job, a family, and a new house and that she shouldn't be coming to his aid all of the time. Maddie says she doesn't mind. Buck tells her thank you and that he appreciates her fussing over him and Maddie tells him she's happy he's still there for her to fuss over. I know some would think what Maddie is doing is a bit overkill but these two have been through so much together. Maddie has been taking care of her brother since he was little because their parents were too consumed with grief over losing Daniel they could not be effective parents. I love that 30 years later, they are both taking care of each other.
Back at the Grant-Nash house, Bobby relays everything that happened to Athena. Athena suggests Wendell was doing an undercover sting, trying to dig up evidence at Winding Path. While going through Wendell's financial reports, she notices a $300-purchase at an electronics store the week he died. Bobby suggests Wendell bought a camera to wear while at the recovery center. Athena says she will go to the station and do some further investigating. Bobby thanks her for helping him, especially since Wendell was his sponsor - not hers. Athena says she knows how important Wendell was to him and to their family and that he's not the only one who misses him. I really love that Athena is going to bat for Bobby, especially since we saw him do the same for her earlier this season.
Meanwhile, Buck attempts to rest on his couch but there's a knock at the door. It's Hen and he invites her inside and they have pot roast for lunch. Hen will not let Buck help her clean up afterwards. Buck asks if he passed the Dr. Wilson follow-up exam and she playfully hits him for being ungrateful. She asks him about his cardiologist and Buck tells her that all he is waiting for is for her to tell him he's okay. Buck says he feels fine but he also felt pretty good before he got struck by lightning.
We flash back to December 2018. Wendell tells Bobby he thinks he's making a mistake asking Athena to marry him. He reminds Bobby that being impulsive is dangerous for folks in recovery. Bobby tells Wendell that Athena makes him feel like he's standing on solid ground and through her he has found a piece of himself again. Wendell softens his stance a bit after hearing this but tells Bobby he needs to slow down and that he and Athena should have a long engagement. I laughed when I heard this because Bobby and Athena got married at the end of season 2 which means maybe four months after they got engaged.
Back in the present, Bobby gets a call from Athena. She tells him that when Wendell's body was found, there was no trace of plastic found on him which means he wasn't wearing a camera on him. Bobby speculates that the camera was actually planted at Winding Path.
Buck gets another knock at his door and this time it's his friend Connor (Colin McCalla). He has a tupperware container with brownies and Buck asks him if those are the 'special brownies'. Just when me and my mom started to joke about 'weed brownies' Buck mentions something about 'high-fiber brownies'. Sure Buck ... side eye emoji face. Buck asks if his sister told him to come over and Connor seems confused by this question. Connor says he just wanted to check on him. They catch up and Connor tells him all about how his wife's pregnancy journey is going. Connor says that when you hope for something so long, when it finally happens, it just doesn't seem real. Buck tells him it will feel pretty real pretty soon. There's another knock on the door and it's Josh. I think it's so funny that Maddie has basically scheduled all of Buck's friends to show up to check on him since he basically told her she couldn't do it. I love Maddie so much!
Buck shows up to Eddie's place and when he answers the door, Buck tells him not to ask how he's doing. Buck goes and sits on his sofa and Eddie offers him beers. By the time Eddie brings over the beers, Buck is passed out.
Back at the Grant-Nash house, Bobby gets a call from Tamara. She sounds high. She asks him not to be mad at her and he assures her he isn't mad at her. Tamara blames herself for Wendell's death. Bobby suggests coming to get her but she tells him it's too late. She apologizes for Wendell and says she wishes she would have apologized to him. She says maybe now she can still do it. Tamara collapses and Bobby grabs his keys and leaves the house. On his way over to Winding Path, Bobby calls Athena and leaves a message on her voicemail letting her know he got a call from Tamara and that he's going to check on her.
Buck wakes up at Eddie's place. Buck asks Eddie what he remembers about getting shot. Eddie says he remembers a searing pain and then he fell. Everything got dark and then he remembers thinking this is it. The last moment of his life. The next thing he knew he was in a hospital.
"And that was it?".
Eddie nods and says, "That was it. No bright white lights. No trippy mind puzzles. Just thought I was dead and then I wasn't."
Eddie asks if he's allowed to ask how Buck is doing. Buck says he doesn't know how he's doing. Eddie reminds him that he died and he's allowed to feel a lot of different ways about it. Eddie tells him the best way to process things is to just feel. This is great advice coming from Eddie. Last season we saw him struggle with his mental health and it's great to see him pass on the lessons he's learned to his best friend. Eddie has another great line when he tells him that over time, when Buck wakes up, he'll be a little less surprised he's still there.
It occurred to me while watching this scene that this is the first Buck and Eddie scene we've gotten since the show came back from hiatus. I often poke fun at the die-hard Buddie-shippers who swear up and down these two are gonna run off into the sunset together. I appreciate this scene mostly because this is all I've ever wanted of these two characters. 9-1-1 has always been about "found family" and while Buck never got a chance to meet his brother, Daniel, he got a best friend and an older brother in the form of Eddie Diaz. I don't need romance between these two because their relationship is special as is. I have a theory that the writers shy away from writing these scenes between Buck and Eddie because there's a very small, very vocal part of the fandom who likes to read into every word, every facial expression, and I imagine that gets annoying for not only the writers, but the actors as well. I know it annoys me as a viewer. With that said, I hope we get more Buck and Eddie scenes because their friendship and brotherhood is one of the key elements to this show.
Bobby arrives at Winding Path and heads inside. He is confronted by the receptionist, Rochelle (Louise Barnes) and Trey and Carrie Walsh (Chris Johnson and Alicia Coppola). Bobby tells him he's there because Tamara said she was in trouble and Mrs. Walsh tells him that Tamara is troubled. Bobby bogarts his way inside and when Mr. Walsh attempts to stop him, Bobby punches him. Wow! I don't think we've ever seen Bobby Nash throw a punch and I kinda dig it! Bobby finds Tamara barely clinging to consciousness in an office. Tamara tells him this is where Wendell died. Bobby asks her about the camera but Tamara is super groggy. The smoke alarm goes off and Bobby starts to smell smoke. The whole place is on fire and Bobby drags Tamara out the house.
Emergency units arrive and Bobby tells some paramedics that Tamara needs to be treated for smoke inhalation and narcotic use. Tamara thanks him before she's taken by ambulance. Rochelle, Carrie, and Trey blame Bobby for breaking into the facility and setting the place on file. A gas container is found in the bed of Bobby's pickup truck. Carrie Walsh brings up the fire that killed his family back in Minnesota and honestly I wanted to jump through the screen and throttle her because how dare you throw this in his face.
Bobby is taken into custody and is interrogated by Detective Phelps (Catherine Dent). She tells him that Carrie, Trey, and Rochelle have given their statements. Things are not looking good for Bobby since he's been seen at the facility more than once since Wendell died. They accuse him of stalking Tamara. Detective Phelps says that she has witnesses willing to testify that Bobby started the fire at Winding Path. She then tells him that she thinks there's more to the story and that she can help him if he talks to her. Bobby says he has someone he needs her to call.
Athena comes to the station and tells Bobby and Detective Phelps she tracked down the guy who sold Wendell the camera and he told her where she needed to look. Meanwhile, we see some LAFD combing the rubble of the burned down facility. They remove a wall socket and find the camera. Athena and Detective Phelps go to see Tamara in the hospital. Tamara asks about Bobby and Athena tells her that Bobby's in custody. She says that Carrie and Trey have fingered Bobby as the one who started the fire but Tamara says that's not what happened. Detective Phelps shows her the camera and Tamara says that Wendell thought the camera would save them but it ended up being the thing that got him killed.
In a flashback, we learn that Tamara had been in and out of Winding Path for over a year. She goes to an AA meeting at a church and that's how she met Wendell. Tamara opens up about her experience at the treatment facility and how it seemed like no one there ever got clean and all of the overdoses. Wendell got upset hearing this and decided to check himself into the facility under the guise of his employer making him do it. He wrote a bogus check to pay for it. Tamara helped him smuggle the camera in because she knew Wendell would be searched by Trey and Carrie. She then tried to distract Carrie while Wendell went into the office to install the camera. The two of them are caught by Carrie and when she asks what they are doing, Wendell tells her he needs a fix. Carrie goes into a cabinet and grabs some heroin (I think). She demands that he takes it in front of her and when he seems reluctant to do so she says Tamara will take it instead. Tamara says sure but Wendell takes it from her and injects himself so she wouldn't have to do it. Wendell effectively breaks his sobriety by doing this. Tamara and Carrie go out in the hallway and Carrie demands to know who Wendell really is. They hear a crash in the office and they find Wendell dead on the floor. Carrie blames Tamara for it and calls for Trey. Carrie and Trey drag Wendell to the abandoned lot and they set his body ablaze.
In the present, Athena relays this story to Bobby who is now out of jail. Bobby realizes that Wendell broke his sobriety in order to keep Tamara from breaking hers and he paid the ultimate price. Bobby seems to have found peace in knowing that in the end, Wendell was still trying to save others. Athena and Bobby get to watch as Trey and Carrie are taken into custody. When Detective Phelps interrogates them separately, they each throw the other under the bus. Trey tells the detective that Carrie's the one who lured Bobby to Winding Path by having Tamara overdose and call Bobby. Carrie tells the detective that it was Trey's idea to burn the facility down. Detective Phelps tells Athena that Trey and Carrie Walsh have pulled this type of stunt before. Athena says that she checked into that background and didn't see anything about other facilities run by them. Detective Phelps tells her Trey and Carrie went by other names when they ran facilities in Westchester County and Palm Beach. Athena thanks the detective for her help. Detective Phelps tells her she's sorry for Wendell's death and we see Athena get emotional as she gets into her vehicle.
Buck is given a clean bill of health by his doctor (Aline Elasmar). She asks him how he's feeling and he tells her he feels like he's getting his strength back. Dr. Salazar tells him that he can go back to work as early as next week. Buck is shocked by this news. He then tells her he has been having a feeling of dread. She tells him that's not out of the ordinary. Buck brings up that Dr. Salazar has worked with a lot of patients who've had near-death experiences and he asks if they just go back to their lives as normal. Dr. Salazar says some do but others will quit their jobs, leave their spouse, and some of them like to travel. Recovery is a bumpy road but eventually everyone finds their equilibrium.
We see Buck revisit the place where he got struck by lightning and I know this is supposed to be a serious scene but all I could think about is how jacked Oliver Stark is and the tiny blue polo shirt he is wearing. Meanwhile, Bobby visits a fully-recovered Tamara at her job. She tells him her detox was rough but she's doing good. She thanks Bobby and Wendell for all they've done for her. It was so good to see Bobby smile because Peter Krause has a great smile and we haven't seen Bobby smile in quite some time.
Buck goes to Maddie and tells her she has to stop fixing him. Maddie tells him her experience leading up to her leaving Chimney and Jee-Yun. She says she felt so alone but she didn't want to ask for help because she didn't want to be a burden. She kept drifting farther and farther away from the people she loved. Maddie doesn't want Buck to ever feel alone which is why she went overboard on having people check in on him. Buck opens up to his sister about how every morning when he wakes up, he has this checklist he runs through his head so he can check to see if he is really there. He says the first thing he checks is the time of day. He says when he was in his coma, it was never night. The next thing he does is text Bobby to see if he's okay.
We then see Bobby delivering a eulogy for Wendell at his AA meeting. Athena is there supporting him like she always does. Bobby talks about how he and Wendell set milestones for their sobriety. He tells the group there's always a reason to live and no matter how dark the tunnel gets, there's always a light at the end. If he finds himself walking down that dark tunnel, he knows that all he has to do is hold out his hand because Wendell is there to walk with him. At the end of the meeting, Athena tells him that Wendell would be very proud of him. Bobby goes to talk to a young man (Ernesto Gonzales) and tells him he's been where he's been. End of episode.
We have another great episode of 9-1-1 and while it was low on the action-packed emergency scenes this show has become known for, we got my favorite thing of all which is rich storytelling featuring my beloved characters. Bobby has always been one of my favorite characters on the show because like Buck, he's had the most character development. When we met Bobby, he was so by the book and he wasn't super-invested in forming close bonds with his team. After he relapsed, he finally opened up and this gave permission for his team to open up to him. We have seen the 118 weather so many storms including Chimney's accident and subsequent coma in season 1, Buck getting crushed by a fire truck in season 2, Hen accidentally running an ambulance into a young girl in season 4, and Eddie getting shot at the end of season 4. Bobby has been there for every shooting, stabbing, and natural disaster and he's been inside every hospital room when one of own is down for the count. Bobby is so important and this episode proved that. I'm so glad we got to see more of his recovery journey and I'm so happy he has peace and closure concerning Wendell.
And then we have Buck dealing with his recovery from a very traumatic experience. Over the years, we've seen examples of Buck being impulsive and rarely taking time to think about the potential consequences of his actions. It was very refreshing to see him in a place of introspection. Buck is a lot more complex than people give him credit for and it was so nice to see him be able to articulate and communicate his thoughts and feelings to the people he cares about most. I'm so happy that Eddie gave him some sound advice because sometimes Eddie can have a 'suck it up' attitude when it comes to dealing with trauma. I do think that if Eddie hadn't gotten help prior to this, he wouldn't have been able to come through for Buck in this episode. I'm also happy Maddie was able to break down why she felt the way she did concerning Buck. This wasn't just a case of a big sister worrying about her little brother. She, too, has weathered more than her share of trauma and her concerns were very valid. I don't know what's next for Evan Buckley but something tells me whatever comes his way, he'll be more than prepared to deal with it.
Overall, I really liked this episode. 9-1-1 has been really knocking it out of the park this season. The show feels fresh and new and the creators have really gone out of there way to get back to the roots of why people fell in love with this show in the first place. Last season felt so fractured and all over the face but now we're getting back to focusing on the characters we love. I look forward to seeing how the back half of this season continues. Until next time ...

Oop Oliver’s said in an interview that Tommy won’t be jealous of Buck and Eddie’s friendship and closeness and that it won’t cause an difficulties- so another buddie pipedream to get them canon falls astray.
(From; https://screenrant.com/911-season-8-buck-eddie-tommy-reaction-oliver-stark/ )
“No, I don't think so. I think we even see in the first episode that Eddie and Christopher are obviously hugely important in Buck's life, and Tommy is able to come along for that ride. He's helping set up the surprise party. There's no jealousy from Tommy towards Buck and Eddie's closeness. That's not going to throw any difficulties into that situation.”
No LI has actually had a problem with the Buddie friendship, but the fact that the canonically gay guy isn’t gonna think twice about it?
Choices were made 😏
The closing paragraph, though 😄😄
Our Take On Buck, Eddie & Tommy's Dynamic In Season 8
Because of the impact of the 2023 writers and actors strikes, 9-1-1 season 7 had only ten episodes. There wasn't enough time to really dig into how the introduction of Tommy changes the group dynamic as a result. I hope that, regardless of what happens between Eddie, Buck, and Tommy, the increased episode count means that these different dynamics will play out over time, and that the show will deliver some standout Buck and Eddie moments.
[This journalist sounds like he’s coping just as poorly as the fandom. That’s unfortunate.]
Gotta love how “Tommy changes the group dynamic” is seen as a bad thing because even Buddie fans have a hard time caring about Eddie’s story when it stays separate from Buck’s. 🤫

Um. Coming to terms with the idea of 2023? I dunno. But certainly nothing creative happened here.
February
Boyfriend → husband (Schitt's Creek) — A side-by-side comparison of how David refers to Patrick in season 4 and season 6. (Brought to you courtesy of a lovely text post by @jesuisici33.)
David questioning Stevie's motives (Schitt’s Creek) — A fun look at David's expressive face. 😄

An existential crisis. Or two. Or five. 🙃 Managed to finish absolutely nothing.
I did come in contact with a lot of 911 Lone Star content, however. Which explains everything that follows. Oops?
May
Marry me. (911 Lone Star) — Ah, my first gif set for this show. A parallel of TK referring to Carlos as his husband when he proposes, and then during their wedding ceremony.
Wedding → honeymoon (911 Lone Star) — Holding hands right after they first kiss as husbands. (Promo footage that didn't actually make the final episode cut). And holding hands poolside on their honeymoon.
Note: From here on out, everything in this list is for Lone Star, unless otherwise specified.

TK and Andrea helping Carlos get ready — A parallel set highlighting similar moments from Best of Men and a deleted scene from In Sickness and in Health
We almost forgot. Your boutonnière. — In which I attempt to put a couple pieces of unaired footage back together: the deleted scene with Andrea and Carlos + promo footage of what must be the same scene

🤨 (affectionate) — Listen. I love this dynamic. Had to do the parallel set.
Nothing ever stays the same, Carlos. — A look at TK and Carlos' conversation in 2x04 in parallel with Carlos' wedding vows. The first set I wanted to do for Lone Star. Took me a while to get to it because I wasn't sure how to put it together.
August
TK needs you all to RSVP — My first attempt at this type of post. Incorrect quotes? Text post memes? I don't know what to call them, really. But it was definitely fun. And then it became the thing I did most often. Lol.
And if it never changes? // What if everything changes again? — A parallel set for me and ~5 other people, putting Tarlos in 2x04 side by side with Marcel the Shell with Shoes On
September
You're a menace to society *smooch smooch smooch* — My next incorrect quotes/meme post. And my contribution to ascribing cat-like behavior to TK.

Love is stored in humans finding out we can make heart shapes with our hands — Had to revisit the heart tutorial for Rafa. This time as one of the incorrect quotes/text posts.
When you can be silly and slutty with them — Oh, I had fun with this look at TK and Carlos' relationship. 😍
Pretty sure this happened at least once — In which we learn TK was seen trying to catch a frog outside the firehouse. Obviously.
October
Carlos is lit like an angel — Commentary on that beautiful moment from 2x02 where TK falls into Carlos' arms.
I put my emotions into my cooking. // This tastes… horny? — A playful and sexy look at Carlos in the kitchen with TK, and then heading upstairs… 😏
I adore you. Why are you like this? I’m going to kiss you with such fervor… — Oh, just exploring the Tarlos relationship dynamic with a text post and a scene from 3x18.
November
Unedited Gif Game (26 entries so far) — This has been very fun. I think it was good for me to have a bunch of low-stakes gif projects where I was not in charge. Lol. I will spare you individual links to each of them. But they should all be in the tag linked here. I will probably make this an ongoing thing, as long as it's not annoying everyone.
December
Episode vs. Promo: Yee-Haw (1x02) — Let's start diving into some more unaired footage, shall we? And let's start with some alt takes on that first make-out scene.
Missing moments: then and now — From an almost-kiss in 1x02 to an alt kiss from their wedding.
You're a miracle, TK Strand. My miracle. — A rather large close-up gif of that alt wedding kiss. Why? So we can see the teardrop that beads up under Carlos' eye.

DARL+ING
pairing: jean x black! reader
genre: fluff, jean being in love
inspired by: darl+ing by seventeen (stan svt!)
cw: none!
a/n: i love svt so much yall don't understand
you know without you, i'm so lonely
he hated seeing you leave. whether it was you going back home to take care of a few things, or when it was going to work. he didn't care why you leaving, he hated it. hated it so damn much. cause all he's thinking is about when you are going to return back in his arms. he couldn't take being away from you for long.
when you're not here, 911 calling
he sits alone in his room, looking at his phone, waiting for it to have some sort of reaction. he wanted to make sure that you are ok, that you're safe. he knows that you are fine by yourself because he has seen it. But he couldn't help but thinking that something bad happened to you. yes, he's that damn dramatic. but all his worries wash away when you text him. he didn't care about what you texted, as long as he knew that you were still with him.
Into your heat again, i'm diving
you loved jean, and jean loved you. there was never a time where you two imaged being without each other. it's like no matter how many times you two saw each other, you would have the same feelings that you had since the beginning of the relationship. he never fails to make your heart flutter in ways that no one could ever make it.
darling, you, darling, you, baby
jean had realized that he had fallen deeply in love with you. there was no way out, and he was glad there wasn't. he needed to be with you, you needed to be with him, it was common knowledge. it was you, it had always been you, it will always be you that is the one for him. the day you came into the picture was the best day of his life. he hated not being with you, he hated it when you left him. but when you returned to him, all his worries washed away. why? because his darling was finally back into his arms.

Sneak peek under the cut:
(...)
“Carlos,” TK murmurs softly, not wanting to startle him awake. When he doesn’t react, TK reaches over, softly shaking his shoulder. “Hey, babe, wake up.” Still no reaction, so TK brushes a hand through Carlos’ curls – God, how he fucking missed that – gently calling out again. “Carlos, come on. We’re home.”
Another second passes before Carlos surges up, startled awake after all. “What? Everything okay? Is there another tree?”
“No,” TK chuckles, letting his hand fall to Carlos’ shoulder blades as he gently rubs his back. “No tree. We made it.”
“What?” Carlos asks, rubbing sleep from his eyes as he looks over at TK. The man must’ve been really far gone and his confused stare is just so adorable.
TK grins, nodding towards the passenger window, repeating, “We’re home.”

Ok so finally found the time to watch episodes 7x02 - 7x04 with my mum. (I’ve already seen them all at least twice, this was her first watch)
The whole episode I was kinda nervous but super excited.
Can I mention again here that she previously did not ship buddie at all, said me and people these days are “always making things gay when they’re not” and said they were “just friends” and the Ravi Buck Eddie sewer call she reiterated this statement saying “see? They’re just good friends” after buck’s clear jealously, which, fair. Yk it can def be seen as friendship— unless you’re open to the fact characters are allowed to be queer and not stated, and also that he’s been played as bisexual since s1 with sooooo much TEXT and SUBTEXT abt it—
When it finally got to the loft apartment scene I was shocked it had come round so quick (I swear that episode felt longer when I watched it alone), and immediately I felt my heart beating a lot faster in anticipation. At the buck Tommy kiss, to my surprise she reacted by grinning wide smiling like in disbelief and stayed like this until they pulled away and we saw buck’s reaction then she sorta manic laughed at buck’s “that works” I think out of disbelief and shock and amusement at buck’s starstruck reaction, “… Saturday? 🥹🤩”and his joke about fake mouth static.
Then as Tommy was walking out and talking about a date my mum said “that’s gonna make.. Eddie, really… mad.” (She was distracted listening to the rest of the scene and dialog)
😆 so her initial reaction was soooo much better than I’d expected/feared!! (From here it turns into kinda a trauma dump with 911 about I realised I’m so so so repressed.. read at ur own risk lol!)
But then of course I went and fucked it up by getting too excited and blabbing.
(I voice memo recorded this whole scene to get her reaction) she asked me about how “so he’s (buck) saying he thought he was jealous but it wasn’t of Eddie it was of him (Tommy).” And I sorta spiralled saying yeh because that’s how he saw it in that moment because he’s trying to figure out what these new feelings are and who they’re for etc and went down the rabbit hole of Tommy being gay from the start (army, ‘begins’ episodes..) and so on and my mum heard like 4 seconds of this and stood up and collected dishes and stuff and walked away saying I was getting too much into it (fair, my adhd does tend to make me mentally jump subjects fairly quickly in ways it doesn’t make sense to other people)
But she never really has healthy conversations with me about queerness, don’t get me wrong I love my mum and she isn’t like throwing me on the street for saying I’m bisexual, but she also isn’t exactly having healthy conversations about it with me either. She prefers to avoid the conversation a lot and stay silent about it, so the repression is real and tbh I didn’t even realise how repressed I was until about 3rd December 2023 I saw a picture of two women kissing and I fully went “oh shit I’m bisexual, I almost forgot I liked women”. Yeh. The repression is so real.
I then went on a Pinterest spiral downloading women photos and made an album on photos app to put it all in so that I had that place to go to and look and I would never be so repressed that I forgot again. I have since been much happier and more queer and open within myself
(For reference this is the picture)
(This is the photo album - not my photos, all from Pinterest)
(Note: I am a teenage girl)
And the only other time I realised I was repressing it, was on holiday with my auntie that I see like once a year, when she teased me about a girl I’d spoken to from a street vender thing and I realised that “oh this is normal” like, families should tease me and be comfortable about it. (Although they don’t tease me about boys much either so..)
Because my family never feel so open about my sexuality to be that comfortable. Whenever the subject comes up it turns into almost an argument because they think I only think I’m gay because I hung out with two lgbt girls for 3, 4 years and they were my only close friends.
Apparently the gay is contagious 🤣
My Nan is homophobic, she’s “of a different generation” apparently and can’t change. She’s not super bad about it but does make comments like “it’s wrong” so I never really talk about it. My brother had the “my friend is gay so i can’t be homophobic” mentality, and also believes like my mum that im only bisexual because of my old friends.
But fr they don’t say it’s a phase specifically but they sort of play it off like one saying I only “think that” because of them (my friends at the time — who I’m not even friends with anymore)
And one time watching the hen and Karen begins episode with the nasa lab explosion- when we get that make out scene between them, my mum laughed and said she was uncomfortable because it just looked “unnatural” and I know she said this because they were a bit fumbly in the scene, knocking things over and kicking off shoes and both plus sized women, but that reaction has just stuck with me since. Because it’s still a beautiful moment and yes they look different to typical people making out but it’s still sexy and a vibe but also I am a plus sized woman, so yes that could be my future. Another time before this when there were some HenRen scenes in bed my mum said to me “is that what you wanna do, cuddle up to some woman in bed like that 🤨” and I was sooo unprepared for that question and sorta went ‘uh yeh no yeh but not like them two because Hen isn’t my type yk but yes’ and she went 🧐 hm ok 🤷♀️
These things have stuck with me
And also when I had a therapist last year the one time I mentioned being bisexual and she that’s something we should talk about I completely shut her down and said it’s fine nothing to talk about and looking back… man I was repressed. Like dayum.
And now I realise I have so much to say.
And the tipping point for all this, is the bi Buck canon, of course. Only 3 days ago but feels like a lifetime already, just the portrayal and the delivery and perfection and sentiment of it all hits so hard, especially the fan reactions, but also actor and director and journalist reactions and everything Tim has had to say on it including Oliver and Ryan interviews. And it’s made me so emotional about it all, I can’t even express how genuinely happy to my core i was the first 2 days every second, and I was dancing around my kitchen, grinning every 3 minutes when I remembered… it was bliss. I felt so seen and happy and loved, appreciated and respected and represented. It’s unreal. Especially the joy and care Oliver has given this.. i can’t explain. It’s so validating.
Within myself I feel much more at peace, and I have realised that in fact I was repressed, and still kinda am.
So bringing it back to the start was that after watching this with my mum I tried to express to her how much this means and the backstory and what’s going on online about it with the directors and actors and everything but I hardly even said a thing and she kept saying how “it’s just a show” “it’s 9-1-1!” “You’re getting too much into this/too attached” even when I tried explaining how queer storylines is something we have to search for to watch in media, and how this will change media from now on and the representation.. she kept walking away, trying to change the subject and invalidating it all saying stuff like
“it’s just a series! You act like it’s a real person!” “You do, you get carried away with it.” “Ok Keira 🙄🚶♀️.. yeh! You’re just getting a little far-fucking-fetched” “right… Keira.” “It’s just a show!” Me: “It’s more than a show.” “In your head it is.” “You’re just going on”
Bear in mind I wasn’t actually going into depth, I was stating how this is a big thing and said literally what I’ve written here, like this is 30 seconds of me talking. Because I wanted to have a healthy conversation about it all, but clearly it didn’t work and i should’ve just been happy with the smile reaction and left it at that.
I tried directly pointing out the problem, too, saying that she never wants to have a healthy conversation with me about it all, to which she replied the “it’s just a show/you’re getting too much into it” part and when I addressed that this family is slightly a little bit homophobic but none of them will admit it she was laughing and going “it’s 9-1-1! It’s 9-1-1!” “(I) make it out into some big drama” (I wasn’t raising my voice or anything I just wanted to have a conversation about it with her, she was the one raising her pitch) and how I’m “just taking it all to another level!” Me:‘Because it is at another level, this is so huge for the industry and the queer community’ “oh god, Keira.. you make such big dramas out of it,” (me literally not being dramatic at all, just wanting a nice discussion about this and both the reactions of fans/non-fans/people, how it’s done so well—compared to other storylines and shows— and the impact this will have on so many things) my mum:… “you always twist me to make it out that I’m some horrible person” to which I responded “well no, because you’re not but you could be more healthy about it, you always laugh it off or change/avoid the subject” (me talking about queerness in general, not 9-1-1, to which she replied) “nanna gets like this over Coronation Street! And I just don’t understand! It’s just a show.”
These quotes she said are direct because I audio recorded everything. Probably not in the right order bc the explanation is a little messy what can I say it’s adhd like I said 💅😵💫🤷♀️😅
Yeh so I guess this is turning into some Reddit thing like AITA am I the asshole for wanting a healthy conversation and for my family to be more comfortable about queerness in general as well as my own (bi)sexuality but also it’s just me expressing how tonight went to anyone who’s stayed to read this. Maybe I should go back into therapy. It’s just my old therapist I never really told her the deep things but also finding someone new that works with me is expensive and exhausting. So it’s been a hard night but I will still rewatch the scene to find happiness in it all again. I just want to wait until I’ve slept it off so I can be fresh and remember the happiness and validity I felt on friday & sat

The Carlee Russell Case: A Deep Dive into Mystery and Public Reaction
The case of Carlee Russell ignited widespread attention and concern across social media and news platforms. In a world where missing persons stories deeply affect us, Carlee’s sudden disappearance—and unexpected return—fueled both curiosity and questions. Her case quickly captivated the public, drawing sympathy as well as scrutiny. Many wondered what had truly happened and why this story unfolded in such an unusual way. For society, it raised broader questions about trust in missing persons reports, as well as the role of social media in amplifying sensitive cases. Carlee’s story reminds us of the importance of empathy while underscoring the impact that viral narratives can have on public perception.
Let’s dive deep into the mystery that captivated the internet and unpack the various layers surrounding Carlee Russell’s story, from the initial incident to the aftermath.
Who is Carlee Russell?
Carlee Russell, a young woman from Alabama, went missing in July 2023. She vanished under seemingly suspicious circumstances, and soon, people across the country were gripped by her story. The 25-year-old nursing student was on her way home from work when she called 911, claiming she had seen a toddler walking along the highway alone.
Background: Carlee was known as a responsible, caring person, the type you wouldn’t expect to just up and disappear.
Hobbies: Family, friends, and work were her life – a life she would seemingly have no reason to abandon.
So, when news broke that Carlee had gone missing after reporting the wandering toddler, people’s hearts immediately went out to her and her family.
The Mysterious Disappearance
After her call to 911, Carlee stopped to check on the toddler and reportedly disappeared. This sudden vanishing act prompted an urgent search by her family, friends, and local authorities. Everyone wanted answers, but the details were murky.
A Trail of Questions
After that call, Carlee seemed to vanish without a trace. Here’s what made her case even more baffling:
Where was the toddler? Authorities searched the area but found no sign of the child Carlee described.
What happened after she got out of the car? Did someone take her, or did she leave willingly?
No witnesses: Despite the busy highway, no one else seemed to have spotted the child Carlee mentioned.
Carlee’s Return and the Twist in the Tale
The twist that came next left everyone scratching their heads. Two days later, Carlee returned home. She showed up at her parents' doorstep, seemingly safe but with a story that would only deepen the mystery. Her return, though initially a cause for relief, quickly turned into a controversial affair as inconsistencies began surfacing.
The Claims and the Questions
Carlee reportedly told the authorities she had been abducted, giving vague details about being held captive. But the specifics didn’t add up.
Inconsistencies Her story didn’t match the evidence authorities were uncovering.
Physical condition – She seemed unharmed, sparking doubt about the captivity claim.
Location of the toddler – There was still no trace of the toddler she’d reported.
Social Media’s Role in Carlee Russell’s Case
Carlee Russell’s case gained traction online like wildfire. Hashtags spread across Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, with people sharing their theories, worries, and hopes. Social media, in many ways, became a double-edged sword.
Social Media Reactions
Here’s how people online reacted to the twists and turns of her story:
Sympathy first – Initially, people expressed worry and sympathy, sharing posts to raise awareness.
Questions second – As inconsistencies grew, skepticism replaced sympathy.
Outrage last – By the time doubts were fully public, many felt betrayed.
The incident revealed just how quickly public opinion can shift, depending on new information and updates.
The Police Investigation: Piecing It Together
Police became heavily involved after Carlee’s return, trying to piece together the truth. They reviewed Carlee’s call history, checked security footage, and gathered any other possible evidence. The authorities quickly realized there were inconsistencies in Carlee’s account that couldn’t be ignored.
Key Findings
Among the revelations that surfaced were:
Internet Searches: In the days before her disappearance, Carlee had reportedly searched topics like “Amber Alerts” and information about abductions.
Security Footage: Footage from her workplace and other sources didn’t align with her claims.
Phone Records: Texts and calls provided clues that contradicted some aspects of her story.
Public Response to the Investigation
As the police investigation gained steam, public reaction grew louder. Many were upset, feeling that their initial sympathy may have been misplaced. But others urged caution, saying it was important to wait for the full story before casting judgment.
Supporters vs. Skeptics: While some people believed Carlee’s story wholeheartedly, others felt the evidence suggested otherwise.
The Cost of a False Alarm: There was also talk about how false reports could damage trust, making people more skeptical of real missing persons cases.
It’s clear that Carlee Russell’s story touched on larger societal issues around truth, trust, and the way we respond to emergencies.
The Bigger Picture: How Carlee Russell’s Case Impacts Society
At its core, the Carlee Russell story isn’t just about one person. It’s about our collective reaction to stories of abduction and missing persons. If Carlee’s story was fabricated, it raises important concerns about trust and credibility, and what happens to real victims when false alarms blur the lines.
Impact on Future Cases: Authorities might face increased skepticism when new cases emerge.
Public Confidence: Stories like Carlee’s could lead to mistrust in genuine missing persons alerts.
Media Responsibility: The media’s role in amplifying these stories also comes under scrutiny.
Lessons Learned from the Carlee Russell Incident
So, what can we take away from this? There are a few key lessons that stand out after all the twists and turns of the Carlee Russell story.
Lessons for Individuals
Think Before Sharing: Be mindful of the facts when sharing or reposting stories online.
Wait for Evidence: Jumping to conclusions can do more harm than good.
Compassion Counts: Even when the truth is murky, empathy remains vital.
Lessons for Society
Importance of Verifiable Information: Rushing to assume the worst can lead to misunderstandings.
Support Systems Matter: We need better ways to help people facing personal crises.
Building Trust in Emergencies: Ensuring people feel safe to report real emergencies without fear of disbelief is essential.
Conclusion
Carlee Russell’s case, with all its unexpected turns, serves as a reminder that we’re all in this together – navigating a world where the lines between fact and fiction can sometimes blur. While we may never fully understand what happened to Carlee, her story underscores the importance of compassion, patience, and a healthy dose of skepticism. Stories like Carlee’s challenge us to remain hopeful and caring but also cautious and discerning.
Ultimately, the Carlee Russell case reminds us that behind every headline is a complex human story – one that may require more than just a passing glance. Let’s keep that in mind, especially as we continue to grapple with the ups and downs of the digital age.

How natural disasters can create long-lasting trauma
The Canadian wildfire season began intensely, with fires in eight provinces and one territory forcing thousands of people to flee their homes, not knowing when or whether they would ever return.
For these survivors, it can be difficult to navigate the after-effects of living through traumatic events, explains professor of psychiatry at Dalhousie University, Vincent Agyapong.
Agyapong says that people who live through a traumatic moment like a natural disaster can experience a range of intense emotions that can stay with them throughout their life, and could even develop into a mental health disorder like anxiety or post-traumatic stress disorder.
"The immediate reaction is people feeling very numb, people feeling very anxious, people feeling very tense, people having a sense of disbelief," he told CTV's Your Morning on Friday.
"People go into a state of panic, having panic attacks and it sometimes leads to sleepless nights, it leads to long-term psychological effects, including anxiety disorders, adjustment disorders and major depressive disorders and in some cases, post traumatic stress disorder."
In 2016, Agyapong led a study that surveyed survivors of the wildfires in Fort McMurray, Alta. where 90,000 residents were displaced as 580,000 hectares burned. The survey found, six months after the disaster, nearly 15 per cent of respondents were suffering from some type of major depressive disorder. Additionally, the survey found respondents with depressive symptoms were more likely to experience substance abuse.
The survey also found that people who didn't seek mental health support after the wildfires were 13 times more likely to have a major depressive disorder.
Survivors not receiving mental health support is a concern Agyapong still has, as he says during an emergency mental health counsellors can already be overloaded with work or have been impacted themselves by the disaster.
"Sometimes, some of the healthcare workforce within mental health for themselves are impacted, so at a time where you actually need more people to actually support the population, you actually have a reduction in your workforce. So it's important for governments to build alternate solutions," he said.
Agyapong explains additional help could include more online mental health resources or promotional campaigns to help boost morale and show support to people affected.
Alberta's mental health texting support program is also available to residents in the area if they need it, texting HOPEAB to 393939.

9-1-1 REACTION
This reaction is for the season 6, eleventh episode "In Another Life" which originally aired March 13, 2023. This episode was written by Lyndsey Beaulieu and directed by Joaquín Sedillo & Jann Turner. Spoilers ahead!
***LAST TIME ON 9-1-1***Maddie and Chimney prepare for the arrival of Margaret and Phillip Buckley at their new home. Albert surprises Chimney when he brings their father all the way from Korea. Bobby investigates the death of his sponsor, Wendell, with the help of Athena and May. Buck gets struck by lightning while responding to an emergency.
Now that we're all caught up, let's chat about episode eleven - IN ANOTHER LIFE.
We begin the episode at Maddie and Chimney's house. We see Maddie making tea and talking to her mother, Margaret Buckley (Dee Wallace). The latter offers to go shopping for flowers and plants with Maddie. It seems like she is really trying to have a better relationship with her daughter. Reading some of the comments on Reddit this evening, a lot of folks aren't into the whole parent redemption storyline. I don't mind it because it seems like Maddie and Chimney's primary motivation for bringing the families together is for their daughter to have grandparents.
While Maddie goes to check on Jee-Yun. There's a knock at the door. Margaret goes to answer it and we don't immediately see who is there. Margaret calls out to Maddie and when Maddie comes to the door we see an officer. Maddie sheds her first tear of many in this episode when she asks him, "Which one?". Speaking of which one, we see the ambulance arrive at the hospital with Buck. Bobby, Chimney, Hen, and Eddie are working on Buck, trying to get a pulse which they get. Bobby tells the doctors that Buck is prone to having blood clots and that he has an allergy to naproxen. As they wheel Buck away, the rest of the 118 look beyond miserable.
Title card (sort of)!
Buck wakes up in a hospital room. His doctor (Aaron Staton) tells him he fell off a ladder and hit his head even though Buck's memory tells him otherwise. Maddie arrives and she's sporting the cutest pigtails. She calls the doctor Daniel. Maddie is Buck's nurse? The doctor tells him he is free to go home. Maddie tells Buck about family dinner and he asks, "Whose family?"
Buck arrives home with Daniel (his doctor and also his older brother). Buck is fascinated to see his parents doting on him. We learn via Margaret and Phillip (Gregory Harrison) that Buck is a school teacher in this reality. It totally makes sense that someone like Buck, who has compassion for everyone, especially children (as evident through his relationship with Christopher Diaz). is a teacher. Buck, however, is shocked by this revelation. He then sees a toy ferris wheel which reminds him of the tsunami that hit the pier back in Season 3. We even hear Christopher's screams. Buck sits down to watch a game with his dad and older brother, Daniel. He seems content with his new reality.
In our next scene, Buck and Daniel arrive at Maddie's house. Buck sees a painting of a winterscape which reminds him of the time Maddie was abducted by her ex-husband and she ended up fighting for her life in Big Bear. We (and Buck) learn that in this reality Maddie has a daughter named Genevieve (Autumn James Hallisay) and Chimney is not the father. Turns out, even in this idyllic fantasy world, Maddie is married to Doug Kendall (Brian Hallisay). Buck, like me, is very confused.
Back in the real world, Buck remains in critical condition and has been placed in a medically-induced coma. Maddie arrives at the hospital with Margaret and Phillip. Bobby tells them that the lightning strike sent Buck into cardiac arrest. Maddie sees Chimney and tells him she's worried about Buck. Chimney feels extremely guilty because it was supposed to be him on the ladder until Buck asked to swap places with him.
Back in Buck's fantasy world, Doug is talking incessantly about being a surgeon. It appears that Doug Kendall is an asshole in any reality. Maddie seems annoyed and uncomfortable especially when Doug says her food was salty. Everyone goes into the living room to play cards giving Buck the opportunity to confront his sister. He asks her what she's doing with Doug and tells her that he's not a good guy. Maddie assures him everything is fine but Buck sees the bruises on her arms. She tells she had an accident but he's heard that line before. Maddie gets upset and walks away from him just as Daniel comes into the kitchen. When Buck asks him about Doug, Daniel seems oblivious although he encourages Buck to stay out of whatever's going on between Maddie and her husband. Buck asks Daniel if someone in a coma can have dreams but Daniel says he doesn't know. Bucks asks him if he can take him somewhere.
Buck goes to see Chimney who doesn't recognize him. In this reality, Buck never became a firefighter so he never got to meet Chimney. Chimney shuts the door in Buck's face but decides to invite him inside when Buck says he knows the meaning behind his nickname. Naturally, we, the viewer, do not get to hear the meaning behind Howard Han's nickname. Well played, writers! Buck sees a toy firetruck which reminds him of being a firefighter. Chimney likens Buck's situation to the film It's a Wonderful Life which I should see at some point since it always seems to be in the cultural zeitgeist. Chimney believes that like the main character in the movie, Buck needs to learn a lesson in order to return to his real life. Buck thinks he needs to fix Maddie's issues and tells Chimney that Maddie is with him. Chimney asks him to leave and Buck decides he's going to go see Bobby. A dark look falls over Chimney's face. He tells Buck that Bobby died five years ago. Bobby Nash is dead. The news is enough to stop Buck's heart and he collapses on the floor.
Back in the real world, Buck is having trouble breathing and Chimney calls for help.
In the next scene we see May talking with Athena. The former asks her mother about Bobby. Athena tells her that Bobby's not doing great and that he blames himself for what happened to Buck. May thinks that's ridiculous. It's not like Bobby has the power to control lightning. Athena reminds her that Bobby will always feel responsible for his team - especially Buck. May says she wishes there was something more she could do to help him. Athena believes that Bobby seeing her face will be enough. May worries that with Bobby dealing with the death of his sponsor, if something happens to Buck, it's gonna send him spiraling. I have the same worries, too, May. Buck's nurses and doctor (Ana Dela Cruz) arrive in his room. Back in the fantasy world, we meet Dream Hen who has been summoned by Dream Chimney to help Buck. In the real world, Chimney, Maragaret and Phillip watch as the doctors manage to stabilize Buck. Back in the fantasy world, Buck appears to be okay.
In the hallway, Real Chimney talks to Albert and updates him on Buck. Chimney makes a comment about how it's easier handling your kid dying when you're a thousand miles away. This is clearly a dig at his father, Sang. Eddie and Real Hen arrive and the latter tells Chimney to go home and get some rest. Chimney points to Bobby who has been at Buck's bedside the entire time.
Back in Buck's fantasy world, Dream Hen tells Buck about the plane crash (Season 1). Neither she nor Dream Chimney knew about Bobby's addiction prior to him dying. It makes sense. Back in Season 1, Buck tries to sneak a peek at Bobby's black book which causes the latter to lash out at Buck. It is Buck and Hen who head over to Bobby's apartment after he fails to show up for his shift at the firehouse. They find Bobby and this is where Bobby tells them about his drug and alcohol addiction. Bobby then asks them for help. Since Buck became a teacher, he never got to meet Bobby and therefore he never had a chance to intervene. Buck asks about Eddie and Chimney tells him that Eddie went off the deep end when he lost Christopher. It was at this moment that my heart stopped. Thankfully, Chimney quickly clarifies by saying that Christopher was taken by Eddie's parents. Because Bobby died, by the time Eddie showed up at the firehouse, there was a new captain. The new captain wasn't as accommodating as Bobby when it came to Eddie having a child with special needs. Oh, and because Buck never became a firefighter in this reality, he never met Abby (Connie Britton) which means he never met Carla Price which means he never got a chance to introduce Carla to Eddie and Christopher.
Back in the real world, Carla (Cocoa Brown) brings Christopher to the ICU unit. While Carla distracts a nurse, Eddie sneaks Christopher in to see Buck. Poor Eddie looks so sad in this scene. Christopher tells Buck that he's going to be okay. He asks Buck to come back.
Meanwhile, Buck, Dream Hen, and Dream Chimney arrive at the hospital. Buck feels like he's running out of time. Dream Hen tells him that the hospital is connected to Buck.
We then see May bring Bobby food. She tells him to eat and Bobby teases her by saying she reminds him of a certain person. Bobby says there's no change in Buck. May says it must be hard not being able to do anything. She reminds him that her mom brought two kids to their marriage and Bobby brought one - Buck. May says that Buck is stubborn and that he will find his way back to them. She tells Bobby she loves him. I love their relationship so much.
Buck's doctor tells the Buckleys they are gonna check to see if Buck can breathe on his own. They take him off the ventilator. Now it's up to Buck. Back in the fantasy world, Buck sees a toy plane. He has flashes of the plane crash from Season 1. Buck thinks he sees Bobby and goes after him. I thought it was cool how the hallway kept getting longer and longer. Buck finds Dream Bobby in a medical supply cabinet filled with drugs. Dream Bobby is serving some serious junkie realness. Buck thinks he's in purgatory. Dream Bobby tells him to relax and warns him that if things become too real in his dream world, he will end up getting stuck there. Dream Bobby sees the real Bobby in Buck's hospital room. Dream Bobby tells Buck he could be dying or he could be fighting for his life. He has to choose. Dream Bobby believes Buck can fix things. Buck says his parents never really saw him when he was growing up because they were too caught up in their grief over losing Daniel. For the first time, even if it isn't real, they are seeing him the way he has always wanted to be seen.
Back in the real world, Bobby has his rosary in hand and is keeping a vigil over Buck. Athena arrives and tells him to take a break. Now that Athena is alone with Buck, she reminds him that he never gives up. She reminds him that Bobby has lost two children and won't survive losing him. She tells him to wake up.
Back in his fantasy world, Buck yells at Athena and tells her he's trying. I thought it was a nice Easter egg to show all of the pregnant women in this scene. It reminded me of the scene in Season 1 where a bunch of women in a yoga class all go into labor at the same time and Buck and Bobby have to deliver three babies. Dream Bobby reminds Buck that he can't fix everything. Buck tells him that he fixed the real Bobby. We get flashes of Buck and Bobby over the years. Dream Bobby reminds him that he is Buck and that's enough. He tells Buck to go and Buck starts running. He runs past Chimney and Christopher (who is looking for his dad) and his parents. When he gets to his room, he is stopped by Daniel who tells him he can't leave. Buck tells Daniel he loves him but he isn't real. Daniel blocks the door. Buck manages to get through the door but Daniel tells him it's too late. Buck sees himself in his hospital room being removed from the ventilator. His oxygen levels are dropping and if he doesn't take a breath, the doctors will have to reconnect him to the ventilator. Buck takes an axe and breaks the glass separating himself from the room. Daniel turns into Buck or as RuPaul would say, his inner-saboteur. Buck does manage to breathe on his own which releases him from his dream world. Buck regains consciousness and is told he needs to take two weeks off from doing any heavy lifting or rigorous work. The doctor tells him he has visitors and the entire 118 including so rando firefighters enter the room. Buck hugs Christopher.
We then see Buck relaying all of his dream to Bobby while they play cards. Bobby tells Buck that his parents do care about him. Buck tells Bobby that he saw him sitting next to his bed with his rosary beads and honestly, if I were Bobby I would've been so confused as to how Buck knew that. Buck tells Bobby that he is the one who helped him find his way home.
In our penultimate scene, Myung-Soon (Jenny Baek) talks with Chimney. She tells him that his dad is sorry. She tells him that his father was ashamed and he felt like a failure. Everything about being in the United States reminded him of his failures. He couldn't save his business nor his marriage which is why he left the country. His ultimate failure was not being able to convince Chimney to come back to Korea after his mother died. Myung-Soon tells Chimney that he and his father have a lot in common. They're both prideful. Chimney sees his father, Sang (David Young Lee) playing with Jee-Yun. He asks if he and Myung-Soon can stay longer. I thought it was funny that even with Buck being in a coma, he was still helping his friends.
In our final scene, Buck comes home to his apartment. He has so many flowers and cards and Maddie tells him there's even more at the firehouse. Margaret and Phillip offer to buy Buck a sofa since he no longer has one. While they go off in search of a tape measure, Maddie kisses Buck on the forehead and he hugs her back.
While others may disagree (I'm looking at all you bitter Redditors out there who are acting super pissy about there being no 'Buddie' in this episode, I think this is one of the best episodes of the show. I first binged this show back in 2020 when we were all in lockdown and I've rewatched every available season at least four times a piece. What makes this show so special to me is how well-written each of our main characters are. Buck is the heart of this show. At first glance he is a bit of a loose cannon who likes to go off half-cocked. But, upon deeper exception, he is also very loyal to those he calls a friend. He would move heaven and earth if it meant keeping his sister, his best friend, his teammates, his captain, and his mother figure (Athena) safe. I love how this episode was a celebration of the very thing we all love about Buck.
I thought this episode was well done. I like the bouncing back and forth between the real world and Buck's fantasy. I love that we got to not only see Daniel, we got to see him as an adult. I thought they did a great job of casting someone who looked like he could be related to both Oliver Stark and Jennifer Love Hewitt. The biggest complaint I've seen about this episode is how little Eddie we got. It is pretty obvious what the writers are doing this season. There has been very little interaction between Eddie and Buck which is so funny considering they are best friends. I've been a fan of their friendship since Eddie's introduction in Season 2 and as a queer man, I never thought there was anything romantic about their relationship. I find it baffling, honestly, that this show has had multiple gay and lesbian characters, most of them POC, yet a very vocal part of the fandom would rather ship the two straight-coded characters. I get it though. Buck and Eddie are extremely attractive and their friendship is free of toxic masculinity which is a breath of fresh air. Plus it's very rare to see two men, two straight-coded men, co-parent a child on-screen. But at the end of the day, what I wish Buddie shippers would realize is that these two are not a couple and it would be way more revolutionary if they remained as is. Unfortunately, the writers, who are most likely as weary of these shippers as I am, have gone out of there way to ensure that Eddie and Buck never get together (which I'm perfectly okay with) but it's at the expense of not having them on screen together (without Christopher serving as a buffer) and that honestly sucks. This is the reason we can't have nice things. Sigh.
Anywho, as I mentioned before, this was a perfect conclusion to the events of last episode. I'm happy our beloved Buckeroo is safe and it won't be long before he's back in action with the rest of the 118. Until next time ...

9-1-1 REACTION
This reaction is for the season 6, tenth episode "In a Flash" which originally aired March 6, 2023. This episode was written by Juan Carlos Coto and directed by Bradley Buecker. Spoilers ahead!
***LAST TIME ON 9-1-1***The 118 wrestled with the Santa Ana winds. Maddie and Chimney purchased a "haunted" house. Denny asks about his birth parents and goes to meet his birth dad. Bobby's friend and sponsor, Wendell, is found burnt alive and Bobby suspects the rehab center he was staying at is responsible.
Now that we're all caught up, let's talk about episode ten - IN A FLASH.
We start at the beach. We see a man named Ibrahim (Kenajuan Bentley) with his children Rasha (Jordyn Curet) and Omar (Teagan Johnson). Ibrahim sleeps while his children play. They decide to bury him in the sand while he's asleep. When he wakes up, he appears amused by their prank. The two kids pour water on him and seconds later he is hit by a bolt of lightning. We then see blood on the sand.
Title card!
The 118 arrived on the scene. Ibrahim is bleeding profusely. Buck posits that when the bolt of lightning hit the sand, it created glass. The glass is what's cutting into the man. The kids apologize profusely while Eddie, Chimney, and Hen work to remove Ibrahim from the sand. Buck tends to the kids and keeps them calm. We see a piece of glass has pierced Ibrahim's carotid artery but since the glass was hot, the wound has been cauterized. There's also another piece of glass in Ibrahim's arm which causes him to squirt more blood. This whole scene was nauseating. So much blood! Eddie makes a tourniquet and he, Chimney, and Hen are able to remove Ibrahim from the sand so he can be transported to the hospital. Buck tells Rasha and Omar they can ride in the engine.
At the dispatch center, we see everyone's favorite news anchor, Dwight Meyerson (Rick Chambers) talking about dry thunderstorms. We then see Maddie tell Josh that her parents are coming into town. We also learn that Albert is arriving from Korea at the same time. Sounds like we're about to have a Buckley-Han reunion.
We then head over to Maddie and Chimney's new house where the two of them are prepping for the arrival of Albert and Mr. and Mrs. Buckley. Maddie is worried about her mother judging the house and her choice in decor. We learn that the Buckleys helped with the downpayment on the home which is honestly surprising. The last time we saw the Buckleys, they were very judgmental of Maddie and Buck. Speaking of Buck, he arrives with Margaret and Phillip Buckley (Dee Wallace and Gregory Harrison). This is their first time meeting their granddaughter, Jee-Yun. The first thing that's apparent is these are not the same people we saw two seasons ago. The Buckleys seem really chill. It's almost disturbing. The doorbell rings and when Chimney goes to answer, we see not only Albert standing on the doorstep, we see Chimney's father, Sang Han (David Young Lee) and his stepmother, Han Myung-Soon (Jennie Baek).
Over at the Wilsons', Hen notices Denny has a catcher's mitt. When she asks him about it, he tells her he bought it with his allowance. Hen is confused because she assumed Denny was into soccer. Denny tells her that baseball is way cooler.
Back over the Maddie and Chimney's, we see the Buckleys and the Hans break bread together. Chimney talks to Albert outside. He is clearly upset with Albert spring their dad and his stepmother on him at the last minute. Albert tells Chimney he didn't bother mentioning he was bringing his parents because he knew Chimney would say 'no'. Albert looks through the window and comments that they almost look like a family but Chimney isn't convinced. Albert points out that Jee-Yun deserves to have a grandfather. Now I'm sorry Albert but I think that's something Chimney should decide, not you, since Chimney is the parent.
In our next scene we see Athena and May at the same treatment facility that Bobby's sponsor Wendell was at before he died. Immediately I noticed how rough May looked and then it was revealed that she and Athena were pretending to be an addict and addict's mother, respectively. May's alias is Jada while Athena's is Mrs. Grier. The two of them meet with the owners, Trey and Carrie Walsh (Chris Johnson and Alicia Coppola). While Athena talks with Trey and Carrie, May is given a tour by a former resident named Tamara (Diana Lu). Trey and Carrie tell Athena that May can stay at the facility but it will cost $100,000.
Athena and May relay their findings to Bobby. Bobby is shocked to hear about the costs. We learn that this facility has had five recent deaths that have gone uninvestigated. Athena mentions that the facility is very private, and very exclusive. We also learn that it's been four months since Wendell's death and Bobby is intent on figuring out what happened to him. Over at the firehouse, Bobby sees a photo of him and Wendell taped to the area where he stores his gear. We then hear thunder. In an interesting turn of events, we see Buck in the kitchen making chili. He asks Bobby to try what he's cooked and Bobby shares his secret ingredient with Buck which is cocoa powder. While Buck cooks, Bobby continues to search for more information regarding the treatment facility. He tells Buck that Athena is losing patience but Buck is very supportive and encourages him to keep digging.
Back at the Grant-Nash house, May asks Athena about Bobby. We hear more thunder. Athena says Bobby has never been good when it comes to no-win situations. To make matters worst, it seems like Wendell's family are coming around to the idea that Wendell did overdose. May thinks that maybe they shouldn't so easily accept that story. She tells Athena she created a fake Instagram with her alias Jada and she's now following Tamara. Tamara's Instagram is filled with posts about her road to recovery but there is a gap in posting that happens to coincide with Wendell's death. Back at the firehouse, Chimney talks to Buck Eddie, and Hen about the family dinner. Eddie points out that Albert does have a point about Jee-Yun needing her grandparents.
We then see a pregnant woman named Ely (Teya Patt) in labor in the back of an Uber. Her driver Sergei (Konstantin Podprugin) is rushing to get her to the hospital. This scene was so hard to watch because I knew something bad was going to happen but nothing could ever prepare me for what happened next. The car is struck by lightning which deploys the airbags. Sergei drives off a bridge and the car lands on the road below. The car is on fire when the 118 arrive at the scene. They first put out the fire and then Bobby goes to check on the driver who tells him that lightning hit the car causing the airbags to deploy. He falls unconscious. Bobby then goes to check on Ely and he notices that the umbilical cord is wrapped around a part of the car. Ugh! Buck gets a saw but just as he's about to use it to cut the woman out, he sees gasoline on the ground. He tells Bobby he can't use the saw because the sparks could ignite the gasoline.
The 118 manages to remove Ely from the car but we see that the baby is no longer inside of her. Bobby speculates that upon impact, the baby was launched out of the mother. Double ugh!! Hen tells Bobby that the umbilical cord is the baby's lifeline and without it the baby will lose oxygen. Bobby finds the baby wedged between the car and removes it. Hen revives the driver while Bobby and Buck tend to the baby. The baby is not crying and Bobby starts to freak out. The baby eventually cries (thank God) and Bobby welcomes him to the world. Buck takes the baby from Bobby because Buck always gets to hold the babies. Thankfully everyone - Ely, Sergei, and the baby - is okay! It's a happy ending to a gruesome story.
May runs into Tamara buying flowers. She tells her she would like to talk to Tamara about Wendell and Tamara tells her to talk to Trey and Carrie instead. May brings up the five deaths and Tamara accuses her of being a ccp. Tamara tells May that Wendell died OD'ed in a field but it's clear she's hiding something.
Buck arrives at Maddie and Chimney's place. Buck gets a text with a sonogram picture and shows it to Albert. Margaret Buckley thinks the sonogram is Chimney and Maddie's new baby. When Buck explains to her that he donated his sperm to his former roommate Connor and his wife, Sang Han comments that it's unnatural. He asks Phillip how he could allow such a thing to happen. Phillip gets upset and it's dad against dad and mom against mom. Now everyone is arguing which upsets Jee-Yun. Then the power goes out.
Over at the Wilsons', Hen talks to Denny about his new love for baseball. When she leaves his room, he picks up his iPad and we see that he's talking to his birth father Nathaniel Green (Troy Winbush). Nathaniel asks Denny if he's told Hen and Karen that they're communicating and Denny tells him 'not yet'. I find it extremely weird that Nathaniel is entertaining this. If I were him and Denny showed up on my doorstep, the first thing I would've done is go straight to Hen and Karen. This situation is not going to end well, especially when Hen and Karen find out.
Back at Maddie and Chimney's pace, Sang Han apologizes to Phillip Buckley. Chimney is shocked to hear his dad apologize. Chimney is still holding on to the hurt he has from his father abandoning he and his mom. Can't say that I blame him. Buck talks to Maddie and asks her if she ever thinks about what life would be like if Daniel had lived. Maddie says sometimes.
We end the episode with the 118 responding to a fire at a huge building. Chimney is about to climb but Buck decides to go instead. We see Buck climb the ladder. A bolt of lightning strikes Buck, knocking him off the ladder. He is suspended in mid-air and not moving. Eddie goes after him and it honestly hurt my heart and soul when I heard Eddie calling out for Buck and Buck not answering. They manage to get Buck down and Hen discovers he doesn't have a pulse. What touched me the most during this sad scene is Bobby calling Buck "kid". Me and my mom like to joke that Bobby and Athena are Buck's real parents and scenes like this show just how much Bobby cares for Buck. Chimney starts to administer CPR but Bobby tells him to get Buck into the ambulance so Eddie can drive them to the nearest hospital. When the ambulance pulls off, the last thing we see is Buck's helmet lying on the ground while rain beats down on it.
9-1-1 is back and I must say, this is how you do an episode after a three-month hiatus! I feel like the writers did a great job of balancing the three storylines in this episode. The only character we really didn't get to touch base with this episode is Eddie. I love that Maddie and Chimney are settling into their new home and I'm glad to see that Jee-Yun is the catalyst for bringing the two families together. I do sympathize with Chimney and I hope that he takes Hen's advice and tells his dad how he really feels. Oh, and maybe Chimney should make an appointment to see a therapist. The whole Denny seeing his birth father behind Hen and Karen's back story is concerning to me. I get that Denny is wanting to know things about his birth parents but I think Nathaniel is making things worse by encouraging these interactions with Denny without notifying Hen and Karen.
My favorite storyline of the night is the one involving Bobby, Athena, and May. We spent the beginning of this season watching Athena solve a decades-old mystery back in her hometown and Bobby was there every step of the way, Now it's Athena's turn to help Bobby. I hope this investigation into Wendell's death does cause Bobby to lose his sobriety. I hope May doesn't get too involved either. She seems to be enjoying playing the role of Jade but I worry she may end up getting hurt and then we're gonna see a side of Athena we don't wanna see.
My final thought is regarding our sweet, baby boy, Buck. His life is hanging in the balance and it looks like next episode he's going to be in a coma. Poor Buck has been through so much. He nearly choked to death in season one. He got crushed by a firetruck in season two. He nearly drowned during the tsunami in season three. The poor kid has been through so much and he's only thirty years old as we learned in this episode. I know Buck is going to be alright but it's still hard seeing him get hurt. I'm excited to see what happens next on 9-1-1. Until next time ...

9-1-1: LONE STAR REACTION
This reaction is for season 4, fourteenth episode "Tongues Out" which originally aired on April 25, 2023. The episode was written by Bob Goodman and directed by Keith Tripler. Spoilers ahead!
This episode was wild from beginning to end. The stuff with Owen and Paul going all Scooby Doo Mysteries was pretty fun but it's actually Tommy's plot that takes the cake for me. I'm all about saving the best for last so let's talk about Owen first.
We pick up where we left off with the whole Owen dating a married woman who may or may not have killed her husband. Owen meets with his soon to be in-law, Gabriel Reyes (Benito Martinez) and is shown Brett Collier's autopsy report. Apparently prior to him freezing to death he was administered a paralyzing neurotoxin. Owen learns that Brett wasn't Kendra's first husband. Her first husband was a man named Logan Daniels. Their marriage was short-lived due to Logan falling over the balcony outside their hotel suite. Kendra insisted she had nothing to do with his death but Logan's parents suspected she killed him. With two husbands dead, it appears that Kendra Harrington (Michaela McManus) may be a black widow. Gabriel tells Owen to watch his back but the latter insists he has ended things with Ms. Harrington.
Owen returns to the firehouse and is accosted by Kendra who tells him she is the primary suspect in Brett's death. Owen lets on he knows about her first husband and Kendra says everything he's been told is a lie. She insists what happened to Logan Daniels was a terrible accident which she had nothing to do with. Owen points out that it looks super suspicious that both her husbands are dead under mysterious circumstances. Kendra counters that she had nothing to gain by killing her husband. Owen finally tells her he believes her and encourages her to turn off her phone since the Texas Rangers are trying to get in touch with her.
We then get a funny scene that only exists to remind us viewers that Paul is the most perceptive character on the show. When his pudding cup goes missing, Paul believes either Marjan, Mateo, Nancy, TK or Carlos is to blame. Paul accuses Carlos and our resident police officer admits to eating the pudding cup. Paul ends up getting recruited by Captain Strand to investigate the potential murder of Brett Collier in hopes of clearing Kendra's name. What's particularly funny about this is that once again, Carlos - the actual cop on this show - is sidelined in favor of another character with zero law enforcement background. We've seen this happen so many times and it makes me wonder, is Carlos Reyes a shitty cop? We very rarely, if ever, get to see him do police stuff and when we do finally get to see him do some police stuff he usually gets overshadowed by another character, namely Owen. Remember the missing little girl last season? Carlos solved that mystery yet Owen is the one who saves the day. Oh, and then there was the whole swatting situation involving the online gamer which he teamed up with Grace to solve and the result of that is Sergeant Athena Grant (Angela Bassett) making the arrest. I still believe one of the biggest missteps of the show is making Owen Strand a firefighter instead of a cop. Imagine if Owen Strand was chief of police and Carlos was one of his subordinates. TK could still be a firefighter and maybe Judd could be captain of the 126. We could still have our Tarlos romance with the added tension of Owen being Carlos' boss.
Anywho, I digress. Paul puts his detective skills to good use and we learn that Brett actually administered the neurotoxin himself. It was Brett trying to kill Kendra and not the other way around. His first attempt was disabling the brakes on her vehicle. When that backfired, he tried lacing a bottle of wine with insecticide. Unfortunately since he was working with one arm, he spilled some of the insecticide on his hand which was then absorbed through his skin. He then got in the cryotherapy chamber and froze to death because he was unable to get out of the machine due to being paralyzed. Kendra's name is cleared but she is poisoned when she drinks from the wine bottle Brett gave her for her birthday. Owen performs CPR on her and ends up getting poisoned as well. When he comes to, he is in a hospital room. Kendra, TK, Carlos, and Paul are present at his bedside. Gabriel Reyes drops by to apologize to Owen for being justifiably angry at him. I'm sorry but I don't think Gabriel was wrong about what he said to Owen. Some would argue that Gabriel should've never shared police information with Owen in the first place but I think he was coming from a place of this man is the father of the man my son is marrying and we're going to be family. Owen really nutted up by compromising an ongoing investigation which could have resulted in Gabriel losing his job so I don't think he should've gone easy on Owen.
Now let's talk about Tommy's storyline. Tommy Vega is still seeing Pastor Trevor Parks (DB Woodside) and regularly attends a bible study he leads along with her daughters and Grace Ryder. When Grace overhears a few gossipy church ladies insinuating Tommy and Trevor are doing something inappropriate, she tells her friend. Tommy is pretty chill about it and when Grace asks if she and Trevor have been intimate, she doesn't exactly give an answer. Now this is the part I found a wee bit unbelievable. Tommy and Grace are besties. Tommy is Grace's girl and vice-versa. These two have weathered a lot of storms together. Grace and Judd's accident. Tommy losing Charles and then hooking up with his brother, Julius. I would like to think that if there's anyone on the planet Tommy can be candid with regardly her romantic and sex life, it's Grace Ryder. I get the point the episode is trying to make. Regardless of what Tommy and Trevor are doing behind closed doors, it's no one's business. Yes, he may be a minister, a man of God, but he's still a man and therefore subject to the same follies as any other man. However, it's odd that Grace doesn't know more details about Tommy and Trevor's romance.
Unfortunately, Trevor isn't as chill about the idle gossip as Tommy is and he worries about his reputation. Trevor reveals the reason he left his last church and relocated to Austin, TX with his daughter. His ex-wife cheated on him with the choir director. The elders at the church removed him from his pastoral position because they believed him unfit to preside over their congregation since he couldn't even control his own marriage, How humiliating! And disgusting! Church people, I swear! As someone who grew up in the church, the Baptist church, something like this happening totally tracks with things I've seen. The worst part is that I totally get where Trevor is coming from. I just hate that Tommy's the collateral damage. Gina Torres does an amazing job in the scene where Trevor breaks up with Tommy. You could really feel how utterly heartbroken she was. This is the second heartbreak Tommy has endured since we met her in season two.
The best moment of the episode is when Tommy arrives at church looking like the Dark Phoenix in a stunning red pantsuit. Tommy walks down the center aisle drawing the attention of the entire congregation and commandeers the pulpit. She reads a scripture about gossipers and delivers a scathing speech to those who have judged her.
Tommy: "Keep thou tongue from evil and thy lips from speaking guile. Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, him I will destroy. The one who has a haughty look and a proud heart, him I will not endure. Which is what I think is God's way of saying, 'If you can't say anything nice, keep your damn mouth shut'."
Cue me clutching my imaginary pearls! Tommy went off on those two old ladies and the best part of all is she called them by name. That's what I'm talking about, Tommy Vega! Tommy talks about how there is so much tragedy and meanness in the world and everyday she is fighting it. She says those things should be left outside the moment they all walk through the church doors. She then says that she shouldn't have to deal with negativity at church but if negativity comes her way, she will deal with it. She will not be shamed and she will not be driven from church. It should be noted that Grace, Judd and Trevor's daughter, Melody, are all in support of what Tommy is saying as well as most of the other churchgoers. When she finishes, she tells Trevor he can have the pulpit back and he kisses her. This is his way of letting her and the rest of the congregation know that he loves her. The congregation breaks out in applause and we have the end of our episode.
I really liked this episode. I thought both plots were great. It was nice getting to see Paul shine a bit more. I also love any occasion where we get to see the Tommy and Grace friendship. I found Owen endearing in this episode. Sometimes I have mixed feelings when Owen goes into detective mode but the writers made a great decision when they put Paul in the mix. I still think that moments like this render Carlos useless. We're four seasons into this show and at this point Carlos is there to be TK's fiance and someone who plays Settlers of Catan with the rest of the JV squad. I sort of got the impression that we'd see Carlos exploring becoming a detective this season after the amazing detective work he did last season but we've gotten nothing on that front. I like Carlos as a character. He provides some much-needed Latinx and gay representation to this show. However, what's the point of having him as a police officer when we rarely get to see him save the day. What makes things even worse is that his 9-1-1 counterpart, Athena Grant, is always saving the day. Anywho, enough about that. The episode was pretty great and it's definitely one worth rewatching. We only have a few episodes left this season so I'm pretty excited to see how things end. Until next time ...

9-1-1: LONE STAR REACTION
This reaction is for the season 4, seventh episode "Tommy Dearest" which originally aired March 7, 2023. This episode was written by Bob Goodman and Jamie Kessler and directed by Scott White. Spoilers ahead!
***LAST TIME ON 9-1-1: LONE STAR***Captain Owen Strand and the 118 prevent all of Austin from being blown to kingdom calm.
Now that we're all caught up, let's talk about episode seven - TOMMY DEAREST.
We begin the episode at the firehouse. Owen catches Paul chatting with "an old friend from Chicago". Owen talks to Paul about helping TK and Carlos with their wedding. Meanwhile, Paul's phone is blowing up with text after text. Paul slips up and mentions that the "old friend from Chicago" is a *she* which gets Owen's attention. Owen asks if this *she* is more than a friend but Paul tells him that's not like that. Owen encourages Paul to go after her, whoever she is. I love seeing Owen and Paul hanging out. We rarely get to see these two interact and I love how fatherly Owen can be in these moments.
Their late-night chat is interrupted when a man named Jerry (Marcus Terrell Smith) wheels his wife Hannah (Abigail Bhimani) into the firehouse on a refrigerator dolly. Jerry tells Owen and Paul that his wife is having a medical emergency and if she is turned right-side up, she will die ... again. The rest of the 126 arrive and we learn that Hannah and Jerry were doing the horizontal mambo when she "died" the first time. Tommy says she needs to lie Hannah back to check her vitals but this causes Hannah to flatline. When they move her upside down again, her heartbeat returns to normal. Jerry mentions that Hannah has a pacemaker which is probably something he should have mentioned up front and Tommy theorizes that the pacemaker wire has become dislodged from Hannah's ventricle. Hannah needs to be taken to the hospital ASAP but since transporting her flat is not an option, they place her on the back of the rig upside down.
Title card!
We then head over to Casa de Vega and see Tommy and Trevor (DB Woodside) making lasagna together ... and that's not a euphemism. I want to point out how amazing Tommy looks in this scene. Trevor is super nervous about telling the girls he and Tommy are an item and Tommy does some breathing exercises with him to help him relax. They hear the girls - Isabella, Evie, and Melody (Bella Blanding) playing together in the next room. During dinner, Tommy and Trevor let the girls know they are dating and the girls seem okay with this news. When Trevor, Isabella, and Evie go into the kitchen to get ice cream, Melody tells Tommy she needs to break up with Trevor. DEMON CHILD!!!!
We then head over to the Ryders' house where we see Tommy tell Grace and Judd about Melody. Judd calls her a "bad seed". Tommy tries to sympathize with Melody because she remembers what it was like when her own parents divorced. Tommy tels them she is going to cancel her date with Trevor and Grace tells her not to do that. Grace tells Tommy she should tell Trevor about Melody.
Back at the firehouse, Asha Fulton (Amanda Payton) returns to close out the case concerning Marjan. Apparently the couple who were trying to extort her have dropped their case against Marjan. Imagine that. Nancy, Mateo and TK think this is great news and can't wait to let Marjan know. Paul lets them know he's already told her. The others pick up on Paul's awkward behavior in front of Asha and figure out that he's interested in her. TK says he felt sparks between the two. Paul lets them know that he and Asha went to school together in Chicago and they have been reconnecting via text. Nancy, Mateo, and TK think Paul should ask her out.
In our next scene, we see a pizza delivery man named Lance (Greg Hess) arriving at the home of a shut-in. He rings the doorbell multiple times and when the owner doesn't come to the door, he looks through the window and sees her on the floor having what appears to be a seizure. Lance calls 9-1-1 and of course he gets Grace on the line. Grace figures out that the owner of the house has a medic alert bracelet due to being diabetic. She tells Lance to break into her house. Lance manages to mule kick the door in and tends to the owner whose name is Valerie (Cheryl Lynn Bowers). He finds her insulin pen and injects her. When she comes to, she freaks out and tases Lance twice which stops his heart. Valerie calls 9-1-1 and gets Grace's coworker Bree (Nina Concepcion). Both Grace and Bree realize their callers are at the same scene. Thankfully Tommy, Nancy, and TK arrive on the scene and they are able to revive him. As Lance is being loaded into the ambulance, Valerie takes a step out of her house for the first time and asks him on a date. What a cute little meet-cute. Hope it works out between these two!
Later that day, Tommy arrives at Trevor's house and is shocked to see Grace there. Grace tells her she will be babysitting Melody while Tommy and Trevor are on their date. Trevor and Melody come out to the main room and Melody gushes over how beautiful Tommy looks. Tommy looked sexy as hell in this scene! Gina Torres is a knockout! Grace and Trevor leave the room which gives Melody a chance to tell Tommy that her dress is inappropriate. Tommy tells her she is not breaking up with Trevor. When Grace and Trevor come back into the room, Melody hugs her father and shoots Tommy a death stare. Methinks this little girl is a total psychopath. We then see Paul and Asha on a date and it looks like the two of them are really hitting it off. Things take an awkward turn when Asha takes out their middle school yearbook. Asha seems to revel in the memories but Paul looks visibly uncomfortable. I imagine it must not be easy for him to see photos of himself pre-transition.
Speaking of dates, Tommy and Trevor have dinner at a pretty snazzy restaurant. Tommy goes to broach the topic of Melody with Trevor but Trevor gets a call from Grace. The two of them head back to Trevor's place and see Melody "sick" on the sofa. Grace apologizes to Tommy for calling during their date. Tommy offers to take a look at Melody and makes up for an illness which I thought was hilarious. Something about juvenile gastro-something. She tells Trevor that the cure for this juvenile gastro-something is milk with pickle juice, horseradish (seriously who has horseradish at home), minced garlic, a raw egg, soy sauce, and tobasco sauce. Grace and Trevor leave the room to make Tommy's abuela's remedy and Tommy tells Melody to cut the act. When they return with the drink, Melody calls Tommy's bluff and drinks the nasty drink. Tommy is horrified by this and honestly so am I!
Over at the firehouse, TK, Nancy and Mateo see Paul working out in the gym. They ask him about how his date with Asha went. Paul tells them he doesn't think things will work between him and Asha. Paul then lashes out at the three of them and Owen overhears him. Owen asks to speak with Paul in his office. Owen asks Paul what's going on and Paul tells him about Asha. Paul says the problem with Asha is that she already knows everything about him, including him being trans and during their date Asha wanted to revisit old memories. Paul tells Owen he used to play basketball before he transitioned. He then says he gave up a lot of things so he could become the person he is today. He calls it a survival mechanism. I really like this scene because it's just a reminder of what trans people have to go through in order to live authentically. The fact that a trans actor is saying this through a trans character made this scene even more powerful for me and I'm so glad that Owen just listened which is what most marginalized folks need from their allies.
Meanwhile, Judd teases Tommy about the nasty drink she gave to Melody. Tommy says she was only following Judd's advice. Judd calls her Tommy Dearest which I thought was hilarious. Melody shows up at the firehouse, without her dad, and tells Tommy she needs to speak with her. Melody says she Googled the illness Tommy said she had the night before and it does not exist. Tommy tries to make a truce with the 12-year-old but Melody says they are just getting to the fun part. Melody mentions Tommy's brother-in-law, Julius, and records Tommy talking about her intimate relationship with Julius. Melody threatens to blackmail Tommy if she doesn't break up with Trevor. Seriously, this kid is a sociopath! She should be checked out by a professional.
Tommy heads over to the dispatch center to have some girl talk with Grace. Grace learns about Tommy's fling with Julius but isn't judgmental about it. She even asks Tommy how it was. Grace!!! I'm clutching my pearls over here. Tommy tells Grace she overheard Evie and Isabella talking about Melody having a secret Tik-Tok and suggests blackmailing her back. Grace thinks this is ridiculous and tells Tommy again she should just talk to Trevor.
Tommy heads over to Trevor's and finds him in the middle of writing his sermon. He asks Tommy what's wrong and she says she thinks they jumped the gun by telling the girls about their relationship. Tommy tells Trevor she slept with her deceased husband's brother and Trevor, like Grace, is not judgmental. Trevor suspects that Melody has said something to Tommy but she lies and says no. She then tells him it's best they break up now before someone gets hurt. Trevor tells her it's too late for that. Melody comes out of her room and says she's hurting. Tommy thinks she's crying wolf but this time Melody is being serious. Tommy checks her out and figures out immediately what's going on. The two of them go to Melody's room.
Turns out Melody got her period and Tommy is there to help her through this pivotal moment in her young ife. Melody starts to cry and says she wishes her mom were there. Tommy tells Melody she can talk to her. Melody finally apologizes to Tommy for all the messed up stuff she's been doing. She says that Tommy's the first person her dad has dated since divorcing her mom. Tommy is so amazing in this moment as she comforts Melody. Melody asks if Tommy can un-dump her father and Tommy says she won't do it alone.
Back at the firehouse, Owen tosses a basketball at Paul. He then shows Paul the basketball goal he's set up. The two of them start playing a game of one-on-one. Paul looked so happy in this moment. Nancy, Judd, Mateo, and TK show up and Owen suggests they play three-on-three. Paul is really good at basketball and a part of me wonders if Brian Michael Smith is good at basketball in real life.
We then see Tommy and Trevor having ice cream with the girls. Tommy and Melody seem to be getting along quite well. The five of them look really good together and it would be so nice if Tommy and Trevor do end up together and they have a blended family.
So, that's it for "Tommy Dearest"! This episode was a nice palate cleanser after last week's resolution to the big terrorist plot. We got a few emergencies, none of which were super serious. Both emergencies were also hilarious in hindsight, even though poor Hannah died twice. I love that we got to focus on Tommy this episode. We got introduced to Trevor back in episode one and we haven't really gotten a chance to spend time with him and Tommy until this episode. I love how supportive Grace and Judd are with Tommy. I love their friendship. I really like Trevor as a love interest for Tommy because the whole dalliance with her dead husband's brother was not a good look.
I also like that we also got to spend some time with Paul. We haven't really seen Paul date since season one and it's so refreshing to see that Asha is fine with Paul just the way he is. I was worried his being trans was going to be an obstacle for them and I'm so glad the writers decided not to go in that direction. I hope we get to see more of Asha and I hope we get to see her date Paul. Paul deserves to have a partner much like TK and Carlos and Judd and Grace and Tommy and Trevor.
Lastly, to all the Owen haters out there, you got your wish. Owen was in the background much of this episode and when he was in a scene, he didn't dominate. I like that we stepped back a bit from Owen, TK, and Carlos. I find it funny that people talk about how much Owen dominates the show but turn a blind eye to all the screen time TK and Carlos get. Hopefully this is a sign we will be focusing on the other characters. I need a Nancy-centric episode ASAP. Hopefully the writers give me what I need! Until next time ...

9-1-1: LONE STAR REACTION
This reaction is for season 4, sixteenth episode "A House Divided" which originally aired on May 9, 2023. The episode was written by Matt Solik and directed by Tessa Blake. Spoilers ahead!
We begin the episode in the hospital. Thankfully it's not Owen or TK but it is another Strand. Robert Strand (Chad Lowe) has cut his hand while slicing open a bagel. Robert laments the tremor he has in his hand and tells Owen he is running out of excuses for not being able to play catch with his daughter. Robert still hasn't told his daughters about his diagnosis because he doesn't want to blow up their world. Owen admits he kept his lung cancer diagnosis from TK in the beginning. He tells Robert that he thought he was going to die but after several rounds of chemo and surgery he is still alive. Robert says that Huntington's is not cancer. There's no chemo or treatment for it. He describes it as a vicious, unrelenting descent to the end. He then tells Owen he and his wife are already making preparations for what's to come. Robert encourages Owen to check to see if he has the gene.
Title card! Wow! I haven't written that in a while.
Our first emergency of the episode involves a yard sale. Vic (Michael McMilian) and Clara (Ellie Araiza) are a divorced couple who are attempting to sell their things much to the disapproval of their adorable son, Quincy (Lincoln Bodin). We see Quincy talking to a creepy dude and then he is gone. Vic and Clara are freaking out and my first thought was that the creepy dude walked off with him. Clara dials 9-1-1 and Carlos arrives on the scene. Thankfully Quincy is still in the yard, in an old armoire, but due to it being super hot outside, he is unresponsive. Grace coaches Carlos on how to revive Quincy. Carlos goes over to Checkov's lemonade stand and pours a pitcher of ice cold lemonade onto Quincy which wakes him up. Quincy tells his parents he hid in the armoire because he doesn't want to leave.
Owen heads over to TK and Carlos' apartment and tells his son that Robert was diagnosed with Huntington's a month ago. TK says he didn't notice any symptoms when they had dinner together. Owen tells him that Robert hides his tremors and cognitive issues well but they are progressing. TK is confused because Robert drove himself halfway across the country to visit them both in Texas. Owen says he is planning on taking some time off from the firehouse so he can drive Robert back to California. While he is gone, Judd will be in charge of the 126.
TK points out that Huntington's disease is hereditary and asks Owen if Robert knows which of his parents carries the gene. Owen tells TK that the gene was passed down from Owen and Robert's dad - TK's grandfather. TK connects the dots that if Robert has the disease then there's a chance he and Owen may wind up with it. TK is overwhelmed by this news and wonders if he should postpone the wedding. Owen encourages him to keep on living his life. TK tells him there's no way he can marry Carlos with a death sentence hanging over his head. Owen reminds him that everyone has a death sentence hanging over their head. He tells TK that he just got tested and he will have the results in 48 hours. If it turns out he doesn't have the gene then TK will definitely not have it. TK tells Owen he could've waited for a negative result and then never have said anything but Owen says he is done hiding things from him. He tells TK that he needs him just as much as TK needs him.
We head over to the Ryders' residence and see a game of charades already in progress. This reminded me of the scene in season two where Grace and Judd, Tommy and Charles, and Owen and Gwyn were playing charades. This time around we have Grace and Judd, Tommy and Trevor Parks (DB Woodside) and Wyatt (Jackson Pace) and his girlfriend, Leigh Ann (Jessi Case). Trevor asks Wyatt about joining the fire academy and the latter tries to downplay how things are going. Leigh Ann pipes up and tells the room that everything is going well. Judd brags about Wyatt's ladder drill time which is 5 minutes and 29 seconds. He says that when he was in the academy the fastest time was 5 minutes and 50 seconds. Wyatt continues to be modest about his accomplishments but Leigh Ann tells everyone that he's been getting calls from captains in the area trying to recruit him. This scene was so cute because Judd is clearly so proud of Wyatt. Side note: Judd looked hot as hell in the glasses he was wearing. End of side note. Wyatt mentions that when he graduates he's been invited to join the 122 or the 124. Tommy says he should consider working for Captain Ryder at the 126. Judd shrugs off the compliment and says he is only acting captain while Owen is away. Judd admits that every time he is left in charge of the 126, he's always worried things are going to crash and burn. Tommy says the house couldn't be in better hands and reminds him that he's an excellent captain.
Trevor gets a notification on his phone about a table opening up at a really fancy, hard-to-get-into restaurant and asks if he should make a reservation. The others tell him to make a reservation and plans are made to have dinner together the following Thursday. Wyatt and Leigh Ann will babysit Baby Charlie.
Our second emergency of the episode involves a fire at a paper mill. Judd is acting as captain and gives out orders. He sends Marjan, Mateo, and Paul inside the building to search for people. Tommy, Nancy, and TK arrive on the scene and set up triage in the parking lot. A woman comes up to TOmmy and tells her that her friend Jimmy is trapped inside of a machine inside the burning building. Tommy radios Judd to tell her she, Nancy, and TK are heading inside to check on the man and Judd tells her to be careful. Tommy, Nancy and TK locate Jimmy and they see that his arm is trapped. Jimmy's heart is racing and he is barely clinging to consciousness. Tommy radios Judd and tells him Jimmy is bleeding internally and asks for an ETA on when additional help arrives. Judd tells her he is still waiting on the 129. Meanwhile, Marjan hears one of the machines inside the mill making noises and radios to Judd. He tells her that it's probably chemicals and commands her, Mateo, and Paul to exit the building. Judd sends out a may day for everyone to evacuate.
Tommy orders Nancy and TK to evacuate. Judd asks them where Tommy is and TK tells him she's still inside with the patient. Nancy tells him that the patient is stuck in a machine and Tommy needs help with extrication. Judd radios Tommy and tells her he gave the evacuation order and she needs to get out of the building. Tommy says she has a pulse on the patient. Judd places Marjan in charge and heads inside the building. Judd takes an axe and uses it to cut off the man's arm and he carries him out of the building with Tommy on his heels. The mill explodes moments later.
Back at the house, things are pretty frosty between both captains. Judd approaches Tommy and asks if she wants to talk about what happened at the paper mill. Tommy says there's nothing to talk about. Yes she lost someone in the field but it's something that happens. Judd clarifies that he's asking her about her disregard for his direct order to evacuate. Tommy says she heard his order but she chose to not follow it because she was trying to save Jimmy's life. Judd informs her that he has an after action report to fill out and he doesn't know what to document. Tommy encourages him to document what actually happened. Judd tells her he feels uncomfortable documenting what really happened due to their friendship. He then says he doesn't want to pull rank but Tommy reminds him they have the same rank. Tommy reminds him that as fire captain he gets to call the shots on how to best put out a fire and as paramedic captain she gets to decide what is the best way to treat an injured patient. Judd says that sometimes those two things don't always align and on their call he was the incident commander, therefore it was his duty to protect everyone in the paper mill. Tommy says it's her duty to protect her patients and she was not going to leave Jimmy to die. Judd reminds her that Jimmy did die and that it's by the grace of God that they didn't die along with him. Tommy tells Judd that she didn't ask for him to come into the paper mill. She then asks if he would like an apology from her. Judd tells her he ain't looking for an apology. What he is looking for is the assurance that something like that isn't going to happen on a future call. Tommy says she cannot predict the future. Judd flips the script and says that he can't predict the future either, however, he would like the confidence to know that the mother of his goddaughters is going to make it home - especially since they just lost their father. Tommy is clearly rattled by hearing this and tells Judd he doesn't get to use that against her. She tells him she is done with their conversation and gets up and leaves.
Carlos gets home from his shift and finds TK still awake. TK tells him that he can't sleep and when Carlos presses him about it, TK tells him that things are not okay. He tells Carlos about his uncle Robert's Huntington disease diagnosis and how it's hereditary. Carlos points out that Robert and Owen are only half-brothers but TK tells him that it comes from his grandfather's side. Carlos takes in this news and asks if there's a way to test for it. TK tells him that Owen is currently waiting for the results. If Owen doesn't have it, TK is in the clear. Carlos asks about the potential symptoms associated with Huntington's and TK says aside from all of the cognitive issues, there will be struggles with walking, eating, talking, and breathing. Everything starts shutting down. Carlos says it's a LOT to process and TK agrees. TK tells Carlos he has zero expectations and he doesn't want this to be a death sentence for both of them. Carlos asks what he means and TK tells him he doesn't expect Carlos to go through with the wedding. He doesn't want to be a burden on Carlos. Carlos reminds about the whole 'in sickness and in health' part of their marriage vows but TK is unconvinced. He is worried that he'll end up forgetting who Carlos is. Carlos says that he'll just have to remind him every day. Carlos tells TK that they are soulmates which is the first time he has said this out loud. Carlos assures TK that he will not run away.
Asha Fulton (Amanda Payton) arrives at the firehouse and Nancy assumes she is there to see Paul. She is actually there to see Captain Vega. Asha goes to Tommy's office and talks to her about the incident at the paper mill fire. She asks Tommy if she recalls an order being given to evacuate the building and Tommy says she does. While Tommy is questioned, she sees Judd and it is very evident things are not good between these two. Trevor arrives at Tommy's house to pick her up for their double dinner date with Judd and Grace. Tommy is not dressed and tells Trevor they should cancel their dinner plans. Trevor insists they cannot cancel their reservation because it was a miracle he got the reservation in the first place. Tommy tells Trevor she can't break bread with a snitch, the snitch being Judd Ryder. She goes on to explain that Judd called HR on her due to the two of them having a difference of opinion. That's the understatement of the century, haha.
Meanwhile, Judd is having a similar conversation with Grace who is looking absolutely stunning. Grace believes her husband may have overreacted when he reported Tommy but he insists he didn't want to get HR involved. Judd says that since he has been trusted with the responsibility of being captain in the absence of Owen, he wants to make sure he is following the rules. Grace tells Judd he needs to get dressed but like Tommy, he is not in the mood to dine out.
Back at Tommy's place, Trevor is practically begging her to get dressed so they can go out but Tommy is being stubborn. He starts quoting Proverbs to her but Tommy tells him to not get biblical on her. Grace is also quoting scripture to Judd. Neither Grace nor Trevor seem to be getting through to their partners. Eventually Tommy and Judd acquiesce to going to dinner. The scene at the restaurant is one of the funniest scenes of the show. Things between Judd and Tommy get worse when their respective partners try to play mediator. Before long, Grace and Trevor are sniping back and forth at each other while Judd and Tommy watch in horror. Eventually both couples are thrown out of the fancy restaurants and things between our two captains are no better than what they were before they all sat down to break bread together.
The next day at the house, it's the paramedics versus the firefighters. Judd and Tommy's feud has trickled down to their subordinates and now the whole family is at odds. I'd just like to point out that nothing like this has ever happened when Owen Strand was in charge. Just saying. Tommy breaks up the bickering between Nancy, TK, Mateo, Marjan and Paul and reminds them that even though they are two teams, they are one family. Judd goes to talk to Tommy and tells her he appreciates what she said. Tommy tells him that everything she said was true. Judd says that even though there were some things said the night before, the only thing that matters is that they love and respect each other. Tommy tells him that's never changed. Judd asks if he and Tommy are good and she says they've always been good. Tommy tells him she's made arrangements so that her paramedics will work an opposite shift from the firefighters until Owen gets back.
In our final emergency scene of the episode, the 126 paramedics respond to a call where someone has been hit while riding a bicycle. When Tommy, Nancy, and TK arrive at the scene, they discover the victim is Wyatt. Judd arrives at the hospital and asks Tommy where Wyatt is. She tells him that Wyatt is in surgery. She also lets Judd know that Wyatt has some brain swelling and several broken vertebrae but he has the best spinal cord surgeon in Austin working on him. Judd starts to fall apart and Tommy reminds him that Wyatt is alive and that his vitals are strong. Judd asks Tommy to shoot straight with him. He asks her how bad it is and she tells him she doesn't know. She tells him that they will have to wait and see and that she will wait for him.
TK gets a call from his dad who is at the beach with Robert and his family in California. He tells TK that he got the results back from the clinic and he is negative for the Huntington gene which means TK is also in the clear. TK is relieved and Owen tells him he should celebrate. TK tells him he should celebrate as well. Owen tells him that Robert's having a barbecue for him for his last night in California.
In the final scene of the episode, Owen and Robert are sitting on a bench at the beach. Owen notices Robert has a tremor in his left land which means his Huntington's symptoms are getting worse. He asks Robert how long he plans on keeping his diagnosis a secret from his wife and kids and Robert says he will tell him soon. Owen says the problem with soon is that eventually it becomes later. He tells Robert not to do what he did when he kept TK in the dark about his cancer diagnosis. Robert says he will tell them tomorrow after Owen leaves to head back to Texas. He says he promises they will know before TK's wedding. Owen is surprised to hear that Robert is still coming. Robert says he will bring his wife and his daughters because he wants them to meet his family.
Robert says he has a favor to ask of Owen. He says that he plans on staying in Texas after the wedding so he can spend some more time with Owen. Owen says he thinks that will be great but he doesn't think he'll be able to drive him back to California afterwards. Robert says he won't have to drive him back because he doesn't plan on coming back to California. He then asks Owen to help him die. End of episode.
Whoa! This episode was way intense and I enjoyed every moment of it. I love the beef between Judd and Tommy. We've never seen these two be at odds before and it was fun seeing them going toe-to-toe. The interesting part about their disagreement is that I saw both sides. I totally got where Judd was coming from. At the end of the day, he knows what it's like to lose someone on the team and he doesn't want to see that happen to anyone on the 126. However, Tommy's job is to save people, even if it means putting her own life in harm's way. I'm glad these two are back to being friends again. I just hate that it took something bad happening for that to happen.
The plot involving Owen and his brother, Robert, was also well done. It sucks that Owen lost his brother when he was really young and now he's about to lose his other brother. This is all coming so close on the heels of him losing Gwyn. Both Owen and TK have endured so much loss on this show and this seems so unfair but it does make for great storytelling. I truly wonder if Owen is going to be able to help his brother end his life. It's even more messed up when you realize that Owen wasn't able to save his brother Tyler and he won't be able to save his brother Robert and his whole life is dedicated to rescuing people. Ugh! I feel really bad for Owen. Well, I guess we'll have to wait to see what he decides to do. Until next time!
