“You smell different,” Buck blurts out before his brain can catch up. “What?” Eddie frowns. His cheeks darken, though, one of his biggest tells. Buck must be on to something, then. Buck leans forward, inhaling deeply. Among the smell of their food, he recognises something that suddenly seems familiar. A rich scent, sandalwood and leather, but something citrusy in there as well. It’s warm and inviting, and it’s not Eddie’s usual scent at all. That’s not to say that Buck doesn’t like the way Eddie usually smells, of course! He does, he definitely does. It’s just different, is all he’s saying. Fancier. More indulgent. And Eddie only ever smells like this for very specific reasons. “You're wearing cologne,” Buck says, still processing as he talks. “You’re- that’s your fancy stuff, isn’t it?”

Eddie counted because for three minutes and seventeen seconds his heart was in his throat and he wasn’t breathing properly and he felt the passage of time in a way he hadn’t experienced it since he was shot and the world slowed, and narrowed down to Buck, just Buck, right in front of him, across this unreachable distance.

Eddie’s going to be the last one of the team Buck comes out to and he’s going to be supportive because of course he is. He loves Buck, he just wants Buck to be happy and fuck Buck looks so happy - so free - now that he's figured out this part of himself.

But it’s also going to hurt like a bitch feeling like Buck trusts him least. Even though it isn’t that at all. It’s that Buck is terrified because what Eddie thinks of him matters so much, because he doesn't want Eddie to think he's been lying to him about such a huge part of himself.

Trust Evan to swipe him off his feet by taking him out on a date, so effortlessly charming and adorable, smashing through each of Tommy's insecurities (even though he doesn't know they exist). He knows this man will be the death of him
