everyone knows how much hyunjin loves art, most of the pieces he posts on instagram were of flowers, or sceneries. however, he has a notebook that is dedicated to his drawings of you. he knows how you aren't confident in yourself most of the time, but he's determined to prove you wrong. whenever you were with him, hyunjin would always have his notebook and pencil in hand, ready to sketch you.

much like hyunjin, he's an avid believer of capturing the moment. seungmin carries a film camera with him at all times, knowing that if he used a regular camera, you would ask to see the picture and instantly ask him to delete it. by using a film camera, you wouldn't be able to see the picture, and seungmin would be able to print them out without your knowing, and pocket them in his wallet.

I’m off gallivanting in OKC and text her to remind her and check in and Cassie says she was a little late but she every thing was fine!

Synopsis: Lee Seokmin likes a lot of things: karaoke, stuffed animals, his friends, his family (when they're not at each other's throats), and when things go according to plan. It's perfect that way. That is...until Joshua Hong, the Education Department TA, stumbles into his view one day and suddenly Seokmin has to start facing the fact that maybe not everything in life will be perfect...but with Joshua, that might just be ok.

Chapter 10 - Gifts are more precious when they're from you

Joshua was proof that Seokmin was surrounded by things that were perfect, just how he liked it. From his nose scrunch, to his smile, to the way he looks Seokmin in the eye when he talks to him. Seokmin liked everything about Joshua Hong, the TA in the Education Department.

“Seokmin…You’re singing again.”

         “Wh- am I?” Seokmin glanced at Mingyu and Seungcheol, who were sitting on the other side of the table. When Mingyu nodded, Seokmin’s cheeks heated up in embarrassment. “Oh. Sorry. I can’t help it.”

         Seungcheol pointed his fork in Seokmin’s direction, grinning when Seokmin’s eyes widened a bit. “Look at those eyes. Those are the eyes of someone in love.”

         Mingyu lowered Seungcheol’s fork, replacing the utensil with an interlocked hand instead. “Is it another song for callbacks?” Seokmin watched Seungcheol lean to the side, puckering his lips for a sip of Mingyu’s drink. It took Mingyu a second to notice since he was eating his own lunch, so Seungcheol nudged him.

“Gyu.”

         “Hm? Oh.” Mingyu chuckled, handing the drink over so Seungcheol could take a sip. “Sorry~.” Seokmin covered his cheeks with his hands and rested his elbows on the table. It had been a week since Seokmin got the callback for Arthur. With midterms a distant memory of good grades and finals still far enough away that Seokmin could take a small break from thinking about them, his mind was zeroed in on having a successful callback.

         “When are the callbacks?” Mingyu asked, finally taking the drink from Seungcheol. When Seungcheol pouted, Mingyu only stuck the straw back in his lips. “What? I want it.” he muttered, leaning in close to Seungcheol as he whispered it.

         “Fine.” Seungcheol took another bite of his French fry, smiling as he turned his attention back to Seokmin. Seokmin caught the hearts in Seungcheol’s eyes. He wondered if Mingyu noticed them when Seungcheol looked at him. It was obvious.

         “Callbacks begin end of October. Then we find out the final announcements probably the first or second week of November depending on how long it takes them to make their decisions...” Seokmin leaned back in his seat. “So that leaves anywhere between a month and a half or two months for everyone to start rehearsals before Study Week gets everyone going, then finals and Christmas break. But I don’t know if they’ll even start major rehearsals this semester if it falls too close to finals because everyone starts studying early. Regardless, next semester, we-.”

         “I just asked when the callbacks were, Min.” Mingyu grinned behind the straw against his lips as Seokmin fell quiet. “Don’t worry about the rest until you get your callback.”

         “If.”

         “Don’t say that.” Seungkwan nudged him. “When. You need to say when.” Seokmin smiled a bit at Seungkwan’s support. When he pulled out his phone, Seungkwan whistled. “Is it your boyfriend?”

         Seokmin’s mind immediately began swimming. Thoughts of Joshua and him sitting side by side at a local diner with their friends the day he got his callbacks, Joshua’s shoulder touching his every time he leaned for the ketchup or his body shook his laughter at one of Seungcheol’s jokes. His face was beet red by the time the group took a picture on Seungkwan’s phone. “He’s not my boyfriend.” Seokmin didn’t look up from his phone but his cheeks tinted red. “But no…he’s probably busy.”

         “He’s always busy, hm?” Seungkwan teased. 

         “I guess so. What’s wrong with that?.” Seokmin said quickly, eyes darting towards Seungkwan. He only shrugged in response. “What about you? Did your boyfriend text you?”

         Seungkwan immediately flashed his open a message from Hansol, confirming their hang out time after the group lunch with a thumb’s up emoji. Seokmin’s lips dipped in a frown. “He doesn’t say much, but he always replies.” Seungkwan smiled behind his phone. “And he’s not my boyfriend, either.”

         Lucky him. Seokmin thought to himself as he bit into a fry. Almost immediately, guilt over the thought coursed through his body and he covered his face, head hanging low. The others continued eating around him while Seokmin was trying to wash that thought down the drain and never let it come back. If only it were that easy. When he turned to Seungkwan, he was typing away on his phone, straw in his mouth and thumb tapping away at friends' Instagram posts. Seungkwan looked annoyed now. Maybe he could read Seokmin’s face; tell he thought something rude? Was Seokmin showing any obvious signs of annoyance? He couldn’t picture what his face looked like in the moment, and that only stressed him out more. Why did he have to be this way?

         “Right.” Seokmin finally choked out a mere seconds later, but to him, it felt like hours had passed between the responses. Desperate for distraction, Seokmin simply let Mingyu and Seungcheol fill the table with talk of their next adventure together; a weekend trip to Itaewon. Seungkwan made some sex joke, which flustered the lovey-dovey couple, and Seokmin wished he could sneak away and disappear. But he’d feel guilty for that too.

         He didn’t realize he had begun humming to himself as he stared out the window until Seungkwan pointed it out, finally offered an amused smile once again.

         Seokmin found himself alone in the mall, his friends long gone to their own engagements after lunch had come to an end. He didn’t mind, knowing they all had other engagements when the plans were first made in the group chat. The group chat Joshua had yet to reply in, Seokmin reminded himself.

Seokmin felt lonely in the bustling mall. The smell of apple cinnamon wafting through the building only did so much to comfort him. Curious eyes scanned other patrons, hoping to get a good idea of what their lives were like just by watching them for five or six seconds. Couples strolled out of nearby stores with their arms lined in shopping bags, the serotonin bursting on their faces with their recent purchases. It wouldn’t last long. He saw a mother leading her daughter into a toy store, her eyes brimming with excitement as if she entered a magical land. It wouldn’t last long.

Seokmin saw a few teens, celebrating their weekend going in and out of stores to ogle at things they made or may not be able to afford. Seokmin remembers when he was like that, arm and arm with Mingyu as they searched high and low for the newest video game or for a new pair of slacks for Seokmin, or the newest EXO album for Eunkyung. Those were the similar parts of the day. Those times never lasted long either.

         All nearby eyes fell to the toy store when a screaming child was heard. She was being dragged out by her mother, whose annoyance Seokmin could sense a mile away. Furrowed eyebrows and a deep frown were always at the front of Seokmin’s mind. She couldn’t be older than 6. Seokmin studied them. He couldn’t hear their conversation because of the overwhelming chatter of other mall-goers, but he could make a reasonable guess. The VHS rewound in his head before beginning to play.

         “You’re so selfish. You can’t just throw a tantrum when you don’t get what you want!”

         “But I want it!”

         “You always want, want, want! Ask your father if you want something! Know why you don’t? Because he’s a deadbeat! And if you keep this up, you’ll end up just like him!”

Seokmin turned his head almost immediately, blinking a few times to refocus his eyes. It didn’t work, so he rubbed them. “Shit, okay.” He mumbled to himself. Immediately, he grabbed his phone and scrolled through his contacts, pressing his most recent one other than family and the friends he knew were busy. It was a risk, but he pressed the phone to his ear. It rang long enough for Seokmin to turn his head and see the mother and child long gone.

“What?” Joshua’s pointed tone immediately made Seokmin tense up, eyebrows furrowed.

“Hyung?” Seokmin muttered. Silence on the other end, before a deep sigh.  

“Seokmin. Ah, I’m sorry.” He said. “I just finished a last-minute tutoring reschedule and it threw off my entire weekend plan for work.”

“That sounds rough.” Seokmin pointed out. A beat of hesitation, before he asked: “Why don’t you take a break?” Joshua didn’t answer right away, and Seokmin chewed on his lower lip. The silence made him anxious so he began talking again almost immediately. “I’m at the mall and my friends all had stuff to do. We just had lunch together. So, maybe if you wanted to take a break you could-.”

“Seokmin, I…” Joshua sighed.

“You don’t have to.” Seokmin said. “I’m sorry I bothered you.”

“No. No, no.” Joshua’s voice picked up for a second when he thought the conversation was about to end. “It just…this day sucked and I have so much to do, and-.”

“If you had a hard day…I’ll listen.” Seokmin said softly, chewing on his lip. “If you want me too. My mom says I’ve always been a good listener.” Another sigh on the other end, this time this one more relieved than anything. “If you want to stay on the phone, then we can do that too.”

“Thank you, Seokmin.” He could hear rustling on the other end, the sound of Joshua closing a few textbooks and getting up from what he could only guess was a desk. “No, that’s ok…” A second passed before Joshua adds: “I want to see you.” Seokmin’s breath caught in his throat, smiling to himself. “I haven’t been talking to you much again. I’m sorry.”

“It’s okay.”

“I have the car today; it should take about 20 minutes for me to get there. Can you hold out that long?”

“I don’t think I’ll die in 20 minutes.” Seokmin assured, behind a chuckle. He said his goodbyes, and Joshua was first to hang up so he could get ready. Seokmin leaned back on the bench just as another mother and son exited the same toy store, the son holding up a huge stuffed animal over his head and grinning as he ran behind his mother. He wondered if that was the toy the little girl was so desperate to get her hands on.

He felt bad for her, but she should have known not to ask her mother for anything in the first place.

         When Joshua got to the mall, Seokmin had met him by the front entrance. He was standing by the door, watching as Joshua jogged through the parking lot and over towards him. When he saw Joshua sporting a full body denim outfit, complete with a denim jacket and ripped pants, he smiled behind a hand. He was so good looking, Seokmin wondered if others felt inadequate standing in his presence in the same way Seokmin did.

         “Hey. Were you waiting long?” Joshua asked, putting his hands in the pockets of his denim jacket. Seokmin’s eyes shot up and down Joshua, quickly taking in his appearance for the day. Flawless as usual, Seokmin should learn not to be surprised. He wasn’t, especially when he saw the same bags under his eyes packed under make-up. Seokmin must have been staring a bit too long, because Joshua chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. “Do I have something on my face?”

         “What?” Seokmin blushed. “Oh, no. Sorry. You just…look tired.” Joshua’s smile fell just a bit. “B-but you said it was a hard day today, so…it happens.”

         “Yeah.” Joshua nodded. “I guess so.”

         “As long as you rest when you get home, it’s fine.” He noticed his eyes were slightly bloodshot too, but he decided to keep that to himself. Joshua nodded, immediately changing the subject after a beat of awkward silence.

“Was there anything you were looking to get today?”

         “I have a bit of spending money left over, but I know I’ll go a bit out of control if I’m alone. I just want a few small things.”

         “Oh, so I’m your conscience.” Joshua teased. Seokmin laughed nervously, shrugging. “Alright, then. Let’s go.” He led Seokmin inside. “Where do you want to go first?”

         Immediately, Seokmin’s eyes fell to the toy store that the children had come out of previously with their mothers, crying or squealing in glee. He studied the window displays for a minute, before turning to Joshua and shrugging. “I didn’t really have a plan. I usually just hit 2 stores when I come into the mall and that’s it.”

         “Which ones?”

         “The candle shop, and….” Seokmin paused. “The toy store.” Joshua bit back a chuckle and Seokmin huffed. “Don’t laugh. There’s cute stuff in there if you look.” Joshua nodded his head.

         “I’m sure there is.”

         “Besides…I always say it’s for my sister.” Joshua couldn’t hold back his chuckle anymore, throwing his head back in laughter. “Is it really that funny?”

         “It’s adorable.” Joshua assures behind his laugh. Offering his hand, he motioned to the little toy store. “Let’s go see what we can find, yeah?”

         “Ah.” Seokmin looked down at his hand and nodded. “Okay.” For a few seconds the world seemed to freeze as he reached his hand out. Joshua’s fingers wrapped around his own, encapsulating his hand in a warm bubble that made Seokmin’s cheeks heat up. The duo headed to the toy store, and Seokmin’s eyes immediately fell towards the huge wall of stuffed plushies right in the front. He almost immediately developed the expression of any kid who stepped inside the store, eyes sparkling as he took in the plush sight before him. “Hm.”

         “You look….” Joshua peered at his side profile, grinning. “You look like you’ve won the lottery.”

         “No, of course not.” Seokmin looked at him. “…This is the gates of my own personal heaven.” Joshua’s head tilted to the side as he let out a cute little giggle.

         “Do you have lots of stuffed animals?” Seokmin nodded, reaching out and grabbing a panda stuffed animal holding a piece of bamboo.

         “I didn’t have many growing up.” He admitted. “But I’ve always liked them. I would play with the ones my friend had.” Joshua nodded, eyes wandering around the rest of the store to see what else it offered. As Seokmin looked at the little panda in his hand, his eyes immediately snapped to Joshua, wide. “Sorry.” The sudden apology seemed to shock Joshua. “I just realized this probably is not what you thought we’d be doing when I invited you to meet me. Watching me stare at stuffed animals in a toy store.” Joshua shook his head.

         “Not at all. If you like it, then it’s fine. I saw a shelf of board games over there; I’m going to look.” He pointed down one of the other aisles, before heading over. Seokmin watched for a second, before putting the panda away and continuing to scan the options before him. It had been a while since he bought a plush, the last one being his favorite ravioli that was currently perched right in the center of the bed. He looked up and suddenly one caught his eyes. He pulled it off the shelf and turned back to Joshua. He was currently examining the directions of a board game Seokmin never heard off, and based on the confused expression Joshua had on, he hadn’t either. Seokmin looked at the stuffed animal he had in his hands, then back up to Joshua. I wonder why he’s so tired. Seokmin thought when Joshua yawned into his hand. I hope he’s not getting sick…He immediately could tell that if he wasn’t at Seokmin’s side, he was barely fighting to stay awake. His eyelids were low, and every few seconds, Joshua shook his head in hopes to keep himself awake. All focus was on the board game, but that didn’t seem to be helping.

Seokmin hated seeing him this way. “Hyung.” He immediately saw Joshua’s ears perk up, eyes widening as if he were caught with his hand in the cookie jar after bedtime. Joshua set the board game on the shelf, much more interested in the male approaching him with what was in his hands. “This looks like you.” He held up a little deer plush. Its eyes were closed and it had a very content smile on its face. Joshua looked up at Seokmin, unable to hold back a grin.

         “You think so?” Seokmin nodded, setting the stuffed animal beside Joshua’s face. Joshua craned his neck to see, before turning back to Seokmin. He tried his best to mimic the expression of the deer stuffed animal. The attempt must have been successful, because Seokmin immediately began laughing, covering his mouth with his other hand.

         “Told you.”

         Joshua rolled his eyes. “Well, I can’t see.”

         “I’ll take a picture.” Scrambling for his phone, Seokmin smiled and snapped a picture of the sight before him. For a second, his eyes sparkled as the picture came into view. “See? Told you.”

         Joshua peered over the phone to get a look, and smiled. “Alright, I guess I do kind of see what you’re saying.” He glanced up at Seokmin as he stuck the phone back into his pocket.

         “It’s cute.” Seokmin looked down at the plush once again, holding it tightly in his hands.

         “Are you calling me cute by comparison?” Joshua grinned when Seokmin’s ears turned red, the grip on the plush getting tighter by the second. “I’m flattered~.” Joshua added. Seokmin tried to distract himself by flipping the price tag. It worked, but not in the way Seokmin had hoped.

         Jeez, 40,000 won for this little thing? Seokmin frowned. He had 15 on him leftover from lunch, the rest of his spending money after rent and groceries were purchased for the house. His spending money, which he purposely left small. He glanced at the wall of other stuffed animals, but his eyes kept getting drawn back to this one. He hummed. When his eyes shot up to Joshua, who was once again turned back to the board games. His chest panged with an idea, but it was immediately swallowed down by voices in the back of his head.

“I work so hard to give you kids everything. But it’s never enough.”

“Mom, stop yelling…”

“Why aren’t you more like your brother, Eunkyung?! He never asks for anything!”

Seokmin blinked a few times, letting out a short collection of breaths that recaptured Joshua’s attention. “Maybe next time.” He turned on his heel. However, a hand was gently placed on his arm, and he turned just as Joshua took the plush into his hands.

“Why are you putting it back?” he asked.

“Oh, it’s just a bit too much.” Seokmin said softly. “But it’s okay, I-.”

         Joshua was silent for a minute, nodding as Seokmin spoke. Finally, he sighed and gave the deer plush a squeeze himself. “I’ll buy it.” Joshua offered. Seokmin watched Joshua turn towards the register.

         “What? No, you don’t have to do that.” Seokmin said quickly. Joshua looked over at him, putting the stuffed animal on the register. He fumbled for his wallet and shrugged.

         “I want to. It’s only 40,000 won. That’s only 30 bucks where I’m from.”

         Yeah, only. “Hyung.” Seokmin sighed. Joshua only turned his head, chatting up the woman working behind the counter as he slid his credit card through the machine. Seokmin stood right behind him, hands pressed together nervously. Joshua was smiling as the woman examined the stuffed animal. 

         “It’s a cute one.” She said.

         “It’s for him.” Joshua motioned to Seokmin. “He got callbacks for a play so it’s his congratulations gift.” 

         “Hyung.” Seokmin covered his mouth, feeling his cheeks turn red. Joshua turned to him and smiled.

         “What? It’s true.” He stood firm in his statement. When Seokmin’s eyes darted to the woman, she had a very content smile on her face.

         “That’s sweet of you~.” She looked at Seokmin and he felt like he would disappear. She reached out and handed him the deer directly. “Take good care of that, okay?”

         “O-okay. Thank you.” Seokmin choked out with a bow. He looked down at the stuffed animal, squeezing it. When he looked back up at Joshua, he was slipping his credit card back into his pocket.  Their gazes met and Joshua only offered another nose-scrunching smile. “Thank you.” Seokmin said to Joshua.

         “You mentioned something about candles?” Joshua asked, leading Seokmin out. Seokmin looked down at the deer in his hands as he nodded. “Lead the way.”

         Seokmin liked the smell of candles in the cooler weather because it reminded him of the warmer weather that he preferred. The second the duo stepped into the shop, Seokmin made a beeline to the summery scents that had gone on sale the moment they had gone out of season, Joshua trailing behind. Seokmin immediately reached for one called ‘Ocean at Sunset’ and uncapped it, taking a testing sniff. It sent warm shivers down his body, and for a second, letting him forget that he had to wear his heaviest yellow sweater today.

         When he turned to Joshua, he immediately noticed how close he was, leaving little space between them. Seokmin blushed a bit, his tongue pressing the inside of his cheek. “I needed a new one of this, so I’m glad they have it.” He offered it up to Joshua, who leaned down and took a little sniff. His eyes widened.

         “Ooh, I like it.” He stepped closer, and Seokmin followed his hand as he reached for another candle scent. The closer he leaned, Seokmin felt Joshua’s hand press onto the small of his back. Even covered by his heavy sweater, Seokmin felt the delicate touch of Joshua’s fingers, and it made him shiver a bit. Joshua took one of the candles, ‘Palm Tree Breeze’ into his hand, lowering from the balls of his feet. His hand only moved from Seokmin’s back to open up the candle. “There’s lots of palm trees back home. Let’s see if they captured the scent.” Seokmin watched Joshua take a quick scent. Almost immediately, his nose scrunched, but not in a cute and endearing way. Instead, he looked disgusted. Seokmin snorted, covering his mouth. “What the hell?”

         “Is it bad?”

         “It’s awful.” Joshua motioned him to smell as well. Seokmin did, and immediately the overwhelming scent made his own nose scrunch up. “See?! I would rather eat a palm tree leaf than ever smell this again.”

         “Do palm trees even have a smell?” Seokmin watched Joshua put the candle back on the shelf. His hand returned to the small of his back, and Seokmin bit back a small smile, eyes scanning for more candles.     

         “Yeah, they have a really nice smell if you take care of them. The ones by my house always smell really sweet.”

         “Sweet?” Joshua nodded.

“That candle puts them to shame. It smells like the ones that people let rot in their backyard.” Seokmin chuckled. “I’ll make sure to show you proper palm trees one day, okay? I won’t let this disgusting thing be your only exposure. I’d be putting my roots to shame if I did.” Seokmin didn’t clock Joshua’s invitation overseas, instead chuckling at his dramatic dedication to Los Angeles. “Are you getting this one?” he motioned to the ‘Ocean at Sunset’ still gripped in Seokmin’s hand.

         “I think so. I have enough for it.” Seokmin looked down at it as he capped it. “It’s great to light when I’m working on my lines.” Seokmin headed towards the register Joshua hurried behind him, hands in his pockets. He watched Seokmin pay before the duo exited the candle shop. “Do you want to keep looking around?”

“I saw a store nearby and I feel like I need some new clothes for days I’m taking over the Professor’s classes. Is it ok if we take a quick look?”

         Seokmin nodded his head. “Sure. Let’s go.”

         Joshua led him into one of the more high-end stores in the mall, a store Seokmin would never dare look at for too long, much less step into. However, Joshua strolled in as if it were an ordinary other store, hands in his pockets as he began searching the options on the racks. The entire place was modern, like one of the stores in a romance movie where the male lead has his love interest try on different dresses and outfits, ultimately buying them all for her. He stepped towards a section dedicated to sweaters, most likely new to the floor for the colder seasons. He ran his hand along the fabrics, immediately noticing how soft they were. He rubbed it in between his fingers, stopping only when he saw the wrinkles forming in the clothes. He turned his head left to right to see if any employees noticed him touching the very expensive name brands, and he stuck his hand in his pocket before any of them could. Eyes fell on Joshua, who had made his way to the other end of the room.

Joshua was looking through a rack, chatting with a worker who he must have called for assistance. Seokmin watched as he pulled out a few options, the man seeming to nod in agreement with the choices he made, most likely hoping to get a sale. He looked so natural doing it, and Seokmin wondered how often Joshua found himself in these name brand stores back in Los Angeles. When he approached, Joshua was pulling a few pairs of pants from the racks.

“He’s getting me a dressing room.” Joshua slapped a pair of pants up against his waist. “Do you think these are professional?”

Seokmin’s eyes dipped to Joshua’s hips and lower, watching as he rested most of his weight on one foot. He could immediately see Joshua wearing the pants, the neutral color suiting his skin tone.

“If you wear them with a color on top-.” He motioned out towards Joshua’s chest and neck. “Like a colorful sweater or button up, or even a tie, I think they’ll look really nice.” Joshua took a minute, seeming to envision the entire thing himself as well. Seokmin imagined Joshua in a suit and tie, and something within him simply passed away, or at least left him unable to breathe for a moment.

“Hm. That’s true.” He turned back around, pulling out another pair. He didn’t even check the price tag as he headed to the next rack, this one filled with darker colored slacks. Seokmin followed behind. “I need to toss my sweaters. The ones I’ve been pulling from my closet are so last year.” He pouted.

“I like the green one.” Seokmin said, and Joshua looked over at him. Seokmin smiled no a bit. “The emerald green one. It looks good on you.”

A chuckle as Joshua pulled another set of pants off the rack. “Then I’ll keep that one.” He assured. Seokmin noticed a bit of pink of Joshua's cheeks and he made sure to mentally reward himself for successfully flirting at least once in his life.

When Joshua’s arms were covered in pants and sweaters, he headed to the dressing room. The sales representative helped hang everything onto the ranks, before closing the door behind Joshua. Seokmin settled on a velvet lined chair; the rustling of Joshua changing being blocked by a thick, black door. His eyes examined the dressing room, which was really nicely decorated. He felt expensive, even if he wasn’t going to leave with any bags on his arms. Only his candle and his deer plush, which he gripped in his hands and smiled down at. The image of Joshua recreating the deer’s little sleepy face had not faded from Seokmin’s memory yet, and probably never would.

“You staring off into space over there?” A voice called. Seokmin looked up to see Joshua leaning on the frame of the changing room door, and his breath hitched. Joshua was in those beige slacks and a cream-colored button up. Was it silk? Seokmin had to squeeze his deer plush just a bit harder because of how badly he wanted to reach out and feel the material clinging to Joshua’s chest. Joshua’s head rested on the doorframe, his fond smile only widening a bit. “What’s on your mind, Lee Seokmin?”

How absolutely beautiful you look and how I’m unworthy of standing in your presence.

“…The top is nice.”

Joshua chuckled, head lolling to one side. “You think so?” He tugged at the fabric. “Do you think it’ll be okay to wear to work?”

“Even if it isn’t…” Seokmin said. “It’s really nice and you should buy it.”

Joshua nodded his head. “Okay. I only have a few more things.” He motioned into the dressing room behind him. “Is it okay if I finish up?” 

“Of course, it is.” Seokmin smiled a bit. “I said you should take a break, didn’t I?”

“You did, you did.” Joshua hummed before slipping back behind the door and closing it. Seokmin finally let out that deep breath he was holding.

The entire time Joshua was trying on different clothes, Seokmin only wished that he was able to be that male lead and could buy Joshua whatever he wanted. But he could barely afford 30 American dollars, so he knew that'd never be possible.

         Seokmin had to stop himself from throwing up a desperate ‘yes’ when he was offered a ride home. The first few minutes were silent, only the sound of the paper bags full of clothes shuffling around in the backseat filling the empty silence.

         “Thanks for inviting me out.” Joshua finally said.

         Seokmin was tugging at the deer’s arm lightly. “Oh, don’t thank me.” He smiled a bit. “I hope it made you feel better.”

         “It did.”

         “You never ended up telling me what happened that had you so frustrated.” Seokmin pointed out. Joshua’s lips tugged into a tight line, simply shrugging. “Oh. You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to anymore. I’m just glad you’re feeling better.”

         “It’s not that.” Joshua said simply. “One of the freshmen that I tutor was 20 minutes late to my apartment. When he got there, he was making excuses and being a little irresponsible brat. I told him to either take accountability for himself or leave. He cursed me out for like 5 minutes and then stormed out.” Joshua rolled his eyes. “Some kids, y’know. And he wants to be a teacher?” Joshua scoffed. “Whatever.”

         “That sucks.” Seokmin said, mentally glad he wasn’t there to witness it.

         “It just threw my entire day off. I had an extra 40 minutes to use for work, but I had to spend it letting Professor Moon know about what happened and then he wanted to talk to me about it in more detail. I ended up being on the phone for about another hour. Finally, I got to sit down and get started on work, but you called.”

         “I’m sorry.” Seokmin’s eyes widened. “You should’ve said no. Now you’re even farther behind.”

         “No, no.” Joshua reached a hand out, gently placing it on Seokmin’s arm. He didn’t let his eyes leave the road. “I would have been way too angry to focus on my work so I wouldn’t have gotten anything done anyway.” He sighed. Seokmin studied the bags under Joshua’s eyes. Based on how Joshua was acting, he had a feeling they would look a bit different the next time the two saw each other. “I feel better since I got to hang out with you. So don’t be sorry, okay?” Seokmin only nodded, watching as Joshua returned his hand to the steering wheel.

         A moment of silence fell over them again, and Seokmin used it to look out the window. He admired the caramel leaves scattering the streets, piling up wherever they pleased. They didn’t care if they inconvenienced anyone on their journey down. “I can’t believe how fast the years been moving. Before you know it, it’ll be the end of the term!”

         “Mmm.” Joshua nodded his head.

         Seokmin tried again, adding: “Are you doing anything fun during the holidays?”

         “Ah, I don’t know.” He shrugged. “Might see my grandparents in Busan between Christmas and New Year’s. It depends.” He looked over at Seokmin again. “They always go on a vacation during the holidays, but since I came to Korea, they’ve been staying back to spend it with me. At least for my birthday.”

     ��   “Your birthday?” The curiosity made Joshua chuckle a bit.

         “Yeah, it’s the 30th of December.” He leaned forward, slowing the car as it came to a red light. “I don’t usually do much for it. I told my grandparents to go on their vacation this year, so-.” he shrugged. “We’ll see. I’ll probably just work and do some more tutoring and stuff.”      

         “Well, we have to celebrate your birthday.” Seokmin caught Joshua’s slightly amused smile, his eyes darting over to him. “Before everyone goes home for the holidays.”

         “You go back to Gwangju?”

         “Yeah. Especially this year, since I didn’t go for the long weekend. I come back for a few shifts before the next term starts, too.” He looked down at the deer, craning its neck to the little brown plush looked up with its content smile. “I won’t let this be one of those birthdays where we combine it with Christmas.” He shook his head. “It’ll just be your birthday.”

         “Thank God.” Joshua laughed. “That was my biggest fear as a kid. Santa never disappointed.”

         “And neither will I.” Seokmin assured. Joshua was silent for a moment, and Seokmin turned a bit red. He wanted to do something nice for Joshua. He couldn’t buy him things at the mall, or help him with his tutoring problems. But he could make Joshua have a good birthday. Two months was plenty of time to get everything organized. Seokmin would make sure it was perfect. He smiled at the thought.

         “I know you won’t.” Joshua said. His hand reached out again, and Seokmin saw his palm facing open. He didn’t say much else, simply driving when the light turned green. Seokmin chuckled.

         “Are you trying to ask me for something?” he asked shyly. Joshua shook his head.

         “Early birthday present?” He asked. Seokmin laughed shyly, but he didn’t say no. Instead, he reached his hand forward and intertwined it with Joshua’s. He felt that warm, safe bubble circle his hand and course up his arm, before spreading into his chest and stomach. A ray of sunshine over the stiff and painful flower garden blooming in the pit of his stomach.

         When Seokmin felt Joshua squeeze his hand a bit as they pulled up to his apartment, he felt some of those flowers finally start to wilt and die.

Henlo, I figured I should make an introduction post of one kind or another. :O

I'm here for brainrot hours when it pertains to FFXIV, FFXV, and my OCs for the most part. I'll post art, I'll post gposes and glamours, screenshots, my housing builds, and certainly I'll be posting my OCs. Also my Quicksilver Dancers brainrot, apparently. But yes, I ship my Primam with Prompto from FFXV because they make me soft and warm.

I go by she / he / they pronouns as I'm genderfluid, and I identify as panromantic / demisexual... though honestly, I have been wondering if I'm simply demi in both departments. I'm half Filipino, half Irish living in America. I'm a childhood cancer survivor, I had leukemia Type ALL, and I'll always be open to answering questions about my experience for those who are curious for whatever reasons they may have.

Despite what my blog description might say, I'll only scream a little if you touch / interact with me. Though I'm doing my best to be more part of the community and make friends. Just know that if you get an ask / like / reblog / reply from @paintedscales, I'm just doing my best. TT u TT

Dovrei essere contenta vista la quantità dei drama visti quest'anno. Ma ahimè quantità non implica qualità: a differenza degli altri anni, non ho trovato serie capaci di farmi innamorare...capaci di rimanere nella mia mente per settimane e settimane.

Quel drama che ti prende il cuore e si fa amare anche con mille difetti...ho visto drama carini, apprezzabili e godibili ma roba alla Black o alla The Untamed - per capirci - non ne ho trovata.

ma comunque:

1) Il drama più bello che hai visto: Reborn Rich

Ok, diciamo che questo drama è tutto, tranne che perfetto. Il finale poi andrebbe riscritto da capo e la storia d'amore per me, poteva benissimo essere eliminata.

Nonostante ciò a me questa serie è piaciuta molto. La recitazione è stata d'altissimo livello per tutti gli attori, con alcuni che hanno letteralmente spaccato lo schermo data la loro bravura.

La trama non è nulla di innovativo per carità - tizio sfigatissimo che torna nel passato e grazie alle sue conoscenze trova rivalsa e giustizia - ma ho amato tutta la parte anni 80' e 90' e 2000: i vestiti, i film, gli eventi e tutta la cultura che faceva parte di quel periodo. Come dimenticare l'attesa per lo scoccare degli anni 2000? Quando alcuni pensavano che sarebbe finito il mondo?

E' poi così soddisfacente vedere il percorso del protagonista, i suoi piani e soluzioni per raggiungere i suoi obbiettivi e inevitabilmente ti ritrovi a fare il tifo per lui, soprattutto in confronto agli altri personaggi. Song Joong Ki tratteggia un personaggio che per certi versi ricorda il buon Vincenzo e siccome ne ero un po' orfana, trovo bello ritrovare anche qui. Anche se qui la scena viene letteralmente rubata da Lee Sung Min che regala un interpretazione del Nonno del protagonista da Oscar. la dinamica tra Nonno e Nipote poi, credo che sia la cosa più bella e che più mi ha convinto di questa serie.

Ho poi trovato interessante come nonostante la serie fosse un mini corso di economia aziendale, tra azioni, borsa, indice di mercato e compagnia, io non mi sia mai annoiata. La serie ha un buon ritmo, svariati colpi di scena ed è emozionante osservare il viaggio di Joong Ki per ottenere la sua rivincita.

2) La storia d'amore che ti ha conquistato di più: My Dear Donovan

Ci sono state tante storie d'amore che ricordo con piacere soprattutto sul lato Korea. Ma faccio il salto della quaglia e voto per My Dear Donovan direttamente dalla Thailandia.

La prima cosa che ho apprezzato è che il lead non fosse il solito CEO arrogante, con la puzza sotto il naso che guarda un po', si innamora del caso umano di turno. In My Dear Donovan, il Donovan è un ragazzo normalissimo che nonostante faccia l'attore e quindi si presume sia superbo come pochi, in realtà è dolcissimo e molto alla mano.

La storia d'amore è semplice ma ben costruita passo passo, con la protagonista imbranatissima in amore ma una volta trovatolo, è decisa a stargli accanto nel bene e nel male. Come ogni relazione ha i suoi alti e bassi, litigate, dubbi, fraintendimenti, problemi di comunicazione ecc ecc ma loro reggono botta - soprattutto grazie alla lead - e superano le difficoltà che gli si pongono davanti guidati dalla voglia di stare assieme.

Carini da morire.

3) Il drama che ti è piaciuto di meno: Gaus Electronics

Ok, questo drama è stato visto unicamente per la presenza di Kwak Dong Yeon, attore che avevo adorato in Vincenzo e che volevo vedermi in un ruolo più centrale. Ed perché era una commedia leggera. Io e @veronica-nardi ci guardiamo sempre mattoni, robe serie e per una volta volevamo qualcosa di più spensierato.

Ma Gaus è troppo spensierato. Ed ha una comicità che non mi ha quasi mai fatto ridere. Un po' come Welcome To Waikiki. Quella voglia di far ridere a tutti costi mettendo appositamente scene assurde che dovrebbero essere divertenti ma che lo senti da lontano che sono forzatissime solo per suscitarti la risata.

Più vedo questi genere di drama koreani e più penso che una certa comicità possa farla ed esser convincenti solo i giapponesi.

4) una serie che meriterebbe un sequel: Mezzanotte a Istanbul

Ne ho due. Il primo è Mezzanotte a Istanbul. Necessito di un seguito perché la serie si è conclusa con un colpone di scena che presuppone un continuo ma che ad oggi, nulla si sa. @ili91-efp nulla?

Le domande lasciate aperte sono milioni e tutte le teorie che mi sono fatta sui vari viaggi nel tempo, il ruolo e l'identità della protagonista, sua figlia, il lead e tutta quest'altra roba, DEVE essere risolta.

L'altro è Moving. Anch'esso è finito facendoci presupporre un continuo, con la presentazione di altri ipotetici villain - un intero alfabeto a quanto pare - ma soprattutto voglio vedere come continua la vita delle persone con i super poteri? Le varie famiglie avranno trovato la pace? O il Governo - come si evince dal finale - non ha ancora finito con loro? Dateci il sequel!!

5) Il personaggio preferito: The Gifted

Nonostante la serie di The Gifted sia affondata nella mia opinione personale come il Titanic in quella celebre notte, una cosa positiva me l'ha data: Wave.

Wave mia stella polare nel nulla cosmico.

Quando inizia la serie Wave ci viene presentato come un vero "dito in culo". Ossessionato dai voti e dalla classifica della scuola, Wave non è interessato a stringere amicizie o conoscere persone. Anche perché soffre di una terribile mancanza di fiducia negli altri e teme di poter essere usato.[ SPOILER] cosa che è effettivamente successo. [FINE SPOILER]

Durante la serie Wave mostra un evoluzione clamorosa. Quello che dice e fa' , mi ha riempito di gioia e di un orgoglio senza pari. Durante il drama rimane un personaggio a tutto tondo, deciso e chiaro, dimostrando però di poter e voler cambiare.

Il voler andare nella stessa università dei poracci di Pang rinunciando ad una formazione a 5 stelle per amicizia - anche se per me questi due sono già fidanzati e sposati. Ma non lo dite in giro. Per me sono un BL nascosto - dimostra un cambiamento, un apertura che non ha eguali in nessun altro personaggio della serie. [FINE SPOILER]

6) Il personaggio più odiato: Goodby My Princess

Ci metto quasi tutti i personaggi di Goodbye My Princess. Dal principe in questione, al second lead. Dalla Nonna imperatrice al cane che passa sullo sfondo. Ho augurato ogni male a più di metà personaggi ed ad ogni morte non ho mai versato una singola lacrima. Ok, qui più che colpa dei personaggi era colpa della scrittura della serie.

Ma ancora... se ripenso al lead [SPOILER[ che uccide il second lead davanti alla moglie e dopo gli professa il suo amore, [FINE SPOILER] mi sale un crimine così forte che vorrei entrare nel drama per pestarlo.

Ed è infatti il lead di Goodbye il mio vincitore in questa categoria. La serie ce lo presenta come quest'uomo desideroso di vendetta e potere che manipola, usa, intriga e ammazza chiunque gli si pari davanti. E nemmeno gli affetti più cari sono in salvo dalla sua missione. [SPOILER] Qui ricordo che nella prima vita ha mentito alla lead, la usata, gli ha ammazzato Nonno, Madre e reso pazzo il Padre. L'ha rapita e voleva sposarla con la forza.

Nella sua seconda vita, siccome sta poraccia non aveva sofferto abbastanza, si ritrovano sposati e senza memoria di cosa sia successo prima.

Il lead, nonostante sappia che la famiglia della ragazza sia morta, le mente di nuovo, facendole credere che siano ancora tutti vivi. Forse prova un fascino perverso nel vederla scrivere a dei genitori che MAI RISPONDERANNO. Poi s'innamorano - dio solo sa come - ed il lead inizia a insultarla, stalkerarla... da bravo uomo tossico non comprende come la moglie sia infelice della loro vita matrimoniale e anche se lo capisse NON GLIENE FREGHEREBBE NULLA. L'importante è che lei stia lì. Aggiungiamo sequestro di persona ai reati di quest'uomo.

Con una simile mentalità non può sopportare che la lead sia legata ad un altro uomo, quindi, quando ciccia fuori il second lead e nonostante sappia che sia il maestro della moglie e che lei ci tiene molto, lo ammazza davanti e a lei OBBLIGANDOLA a vederlo morire.

Disperata e obbligata ad un matrimonio tossico la lead finalmente recupera la memoria della sua prima vita e la tegolata che gli arriva in testa è terribile! Quado poi il lead decide di fare guerra al regno della moglie, la ragazza si ammazza pur di fermarlo.

Ma per tutta la serie il lead, con le mani ancora sporche di sangue e sanità mentale della moglie [FINE SPOILER] ci ripeterà che l'ha sempre amata.

OHHHHHH.... l'amore!

Io non so quante imprecazioni ho tirato verso questo personaggio. Ogni volta che era in scena, avevo la bile che saliva a livelli astronomici. Bugiardo, manipolatore, tossico...

7) L'ambientazione più brutta: Back From The Brink

Back from the Brink. Quella foresta di alberi finti tipo recita della scuola mi danno ancora fastidio a pensarci.

Idealmente erano anche paesaggi belli essendo il drama un fantasy, c'erano molte location che visivamente - da lontano - erano belle.

Ma una volta viste da vicino si vedeva questo effetto finto che pareva tutta roba di plastica.

8) Il finale più bello: PS: i hate You

Poetico.

Il finale di questo drama, non solo racchiude perfettamente il mood della serie ma lo fa con un colpone di scena che si poteva annusare da lontano ma che quando accade è così assurdo che non ci credi. Non solo.

Il finale di Ps I hate you chiude splendidamente tutte le trame e da' ai personaggi la conclusione perfetta.

Niente buonismo, niente cose strane per far arrivare al lieto fine forzatamente la storia...finisce tutto come dovrebbe finire.

[SPOILER] ho amato che Saras, l'unica delle cinque ragazze a prendersi la responsabilità dei suoi misfatti, fosse anche l'unica che alla fine sorridesse. [FINE SPOILER]

Finale perfetto. Non lo cambierei di una virgola.

9) Un attore e un attrice che ti sono piaciuti tantissimo: Reborn Rich e One Piece

Attore preferito: Lee Sung Min. La sua interpretazione in Reborn Rich è stata così toccante e intensa che mi sono commossa. Soprattutto nella parte finale della storia quando la trama prevedeva un'interpretazione più emotiva, ha dato il meglio di se. La scena dell'ascensore rimane una delle più toccanti viste quest'anno.

Vorrei però dare il premio di consolazione a Lee Je Hoon in Taxi Driver. Qui la storia prevedeva che l'attore in questione fingesse di essere diverse persone e non importa il tipo: dal coatto di periferia al tirocinante imbranato, Lee Je Hoon ha interpretato in modo magistrale qualsiasi ruolo richiestogli. Bravissimo.

Per le donne invece, voto per Emily Rudd in One Piece. Considerando la giovane età e la pressione del dover intepretare un personaggio così famoso, Emily ha fatto un ottimo lavoro. Il cambiamento della personalità del personaggio durante la serie, è perfettamente realizzato dall'attrice che fa notare molto bene questo passaggio cruciale del suo personaggio.

La sua recitazione non è ovviamente intensa come quella di altre attrici nella mia lista ma voglio dargli il voto sulla fiducia e sul grand lavoro svolto.

10) La morte di un personaggio che ancora non hai superato: Goodbye My Princess

Onestamente non ricordo di morti che non avrei voluto accadessero. Ma trovo allucinante come in Goodbye My Princess [SPOILER] siano crepati TUTTI tranne l'unico a cui auguravo un Erasmus tra i lombrichi.

Scherzi a parte, ci sono rimasta male per la morte della lead poiché sta poraccia aveva avuto una vita di merda, con un matrimonio orribile e l'unico modo per sfuggire a tutto è stato il suicidio. [FINE SPOILER]

Non si meritava quella fine. Non così. E non lei.

Chiariamoci, non è perché mi freghi qualcosa di lei a livello emotivo - mi stava simpatica ma nulla di più - il mio " morte non superata" è più ad un livello di giustizia divina.

Goodbye My princess mi ha insegnato che non c'è giustizia a questo mondo.

11) La OST che ti è piaciuta di più: High and Low

Qui me la gioco facile. Se nel quiz c'è High and Low, stai certa che vincerà nella categoria musicale. Sarà perché in realtà questo drama è uno spottone al gruppo degli Exile?! probabile

Comunque sia, l'OST che voglio far vincere è Top Down degli Exile appunto, canzone che accompagna il Liceo Housan.

Mado' che carica che da'! Il ritmo e quelle note ti fanno venir voglia di saltare sulla sedia e ballare come se non ci fosse un domani.

ALZATEEEEE IL VOLUMEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

12) L'attore e attrice peggiori: Café Minamdang/ Back From the Brink

Come attrice peggiore voto Oh Yeon Seo di Cafe Minamdang. Purtroppo a me questa attrice, non c'è verso che mi piaccia. L'avevo già vista in Korean Odissey ed era stata la sua recitazione il più grave motivo per il drop di quella serie. In questa, continuo a trovarla troppo rigida e finta. Una recitazione che non mi convince, con quegli occhi spalancati e quella rigidezza che proprio non mi piace.

Stesso discorso per Neo Hou di Back from the Brink. Ho trovato la sua recitazione troppo rigida con il risultato che il suo personaggio doveva essere altero e freddo ma sembrava troppo compassato. Anche nelle scene presumibilmente più divertenti, la sua rigidità facciale mi ha impedito di godermi i momenti.

13) Una serie che merita più conoscenza: Miu 404

Voterò per MIU 404 premiandolo per essere sì una serie investigativa ad episodi ma capace di sviluppare la trama orizzontale lungo tutta la storia. E non sempre è così. Ha un buon livello di indagine, qualche mistero e personaggi interessanti che creano delle bromance molto carine.

Inoltre ha un buon ritmo e umorismo alla giapponese che non guasta mai.

Merita di essere più conosciuto secondo me, perché è davvero un buon prodotto, uno dei migliori che ho visto di questo genere ad episodi.

14) Il momento che ti ha fatto saltare sulla sedia PS: i hate you

PS: I hate You si è portato a casa qualche premio quest'anno, tra cui questo. Il momento che mi ha fatto saltare sulla sedia non è stato tanto per la rivelazione ma perché era così assurda, così "malefica" - ma che si sentiva da lontano - che quando succede davvero puoi solo coprirti la bocca con la mano sconvoltissima.

E sì, [SPOILER] mi riferisco alla sorpresa di Pitch come psicopatico che ha complottato per uccidere la sua stessa sorella ed avere la ragazza dei suoi sogni come premio e giocattolino nel finale. [ FINE SPOILER]

E' stato stupendo perché io già a metà serie avevo annusato che c'era qualcosa che non andava ma mai avrei pensato che sarebbero arrivati a quel punto.

Capolavoro.

Della psicopatia.

Ma ancora capolavoro.

15) Il protagonista maschile preferito: High and Low The Worst Episode 0

Io sono piuttosto sicura che non è la prima volta che Murayama Yoshiki si prende questo premio. Ahimè sono una sua fan sfegatata: potevo perdermi l'occasione per premiarlo ancora una volta? Dai che è l'ultima.

Tralasciando battute da fangirl, leggendo la lista, grandi lead maschili capaci di prendermi il cuore e farmi empatizzare con loro...non ce ne sono stati. Carini sì. Alcuni più interessanti di altri ma ancora dimenticabili.

Ed allora voto per questo ragazzo - anche se ormai dovrebbe essere sulla venticinquina - ma l'età scolastica del Liceo Oya è variabile - capace sempre di farmi sorridere e stupirmi.

E' chiaro che una delle cose che apprezzo di più in un personaggio è la sua crescita ed evoluzione. Posso amare un characters quando lo vedo crescere, cambiare ed essere una persona diversa, rispetto all'inizio della storia.

Murayama è così. Parte come ragazzino a cui piace fare a botte senza nessuno scopo, per diventare un leader competente e capace anche di prendere decisioni impopolari per salvaguardare il futuro dei ragazzi. E quando nel finale decide di lasciare finalmente la scuola, è come se passasse il testimone agli altri ragazzi che adesso dovranno portare in alto la bandiera dell'Oya come aveva già fatto lui.

Tra i vari personaggi dell'intera saga di High&Low, Murayama è quello che ho amato di più e su cui la serie stessa ha sviluppato la storia. E ci sarà un motivo. XD

16) La storia d'amore che non ti è piaciuta: Extraordinary You

Per non far vincere di nuovo Goodbye My Princess - anche se questa categoria sarebbe la sua, praticamente - voterò per Extraordinaey You.

Non ho mai capito perché e per come questi due si dovessero amare. La lead si incuriosisce del personaggio senza nome che fa da sfondo alla trama del fumetto, iniziano a parlare e s'innamorano. La storia d'amore parte anche in modo carino e per i primi episodi più interessare ma dopo un po' annoia.

Erano perfetti assieme e grondavano miele fuso non c'è mai stato conflitto, tensione, pepe nella loro storia d'amore. Tanto che i classici impedimenti sono stati tutti esterni alla coppia.

Ed alla fine ho trovato la loro storia d'amore piatta e super scontata. Anche perché lui, avendo la personalità di un budino, faceva tutto ciò che la lead gli diceva, lei lo guardava con gli occhi a cuore ecc ecc...

Una coppia noiosa.

17) Miglior bacio: Tale Of The Nine- Tailed 1938

Voto il bacio tra Lee Rang e Jang Yeo Hee.

Finalmente una gioia per quest'uomo!

Dopo un corteggiamento serrato da parte della sirenetta dei nostri cuori e dopo aver ricevuto vari rifiuti, finalmente Lee Rang abbandona tutte le paranoie, insicurezze e dubbi e mi regala un gran bel bacio. Anche perché nato dopo episodi ed episodi di ottima chimica trai due personaggi e occhiate languide da una parte e dall'altra. XD

E' stato bello vederlo sciogliersi a abbandonare l'ossessione per suo fratello per vivere finalmente questa storia d'amore.

18) Il drama che hai fatto fatica a finire: The Gifted 2

Oddio, in questa risposta ci poteva entrare benissimo anche The Midnight Museum ma si è salvato poiché così assurdo e fuori di testa che volevo arrivare alla fine, solo per scoprire cosa gli sceneggiatori si sarebbero inventati di altrettanto inconcepibile.

Ecco perché il voto va a The Gifted 2. La prima stagione mi era piaciuta ma la seconda mi ha terribilmente annoiato e non vedevo l'ora che finisse: personaggi involuti, villain con un plot armor esagerato, buchi di trama, cosa che accadono ma che facciamo finta che non siano mai successe...un delirio.

Inoltre tutta la parte centrale della stagione, non vede la trama fare passi avanti. [SPOILER] Da quando Pang e gli altri si allontano - intorno al 4-5 episodio - fino al 10/11 episodio, non succede nulla di rilevante ai fini della trama. Sì c'è la lotta tra il governo e il preside, la non morte di Time e Korn ma nel disegno globale, tutto questo potevano cancellarlo e voilà il finale non sarebbe cambiato quasi per niente. [FINE SPOILER]

19) Scena d'azione migliore: Yu Yu Hakusho

Incredibile ma vero, non è High And Low a vincere in questa categoria. Anche se le botte sono state meravigliose come sempre!

Voto per combattimenti di Yu Yu Hakusho che sì, c'era troppo sangue e budella per i miei gusti ma le legnate tra Yusuke e Goki nella discarica delle macchine, mi rimarrà nel cervello per mesi.

C'è Goki che prende una portiera di una macchina e la lancia dritto per dritto in faccia a Yusuke. Quello salta al centimetro e con mosse da contorsionista, schiva la portiera che si va a conficcare in un altra auto a 2 cm dal protagonista!

Poesia!

20) Miglior Villain: Reborn Rich

Voto per il vecchio Jin Yang Cheol.

Ok, è un villain un po' atipico ma per il lead e noi spettatori, ha sicuramente rivestito il ruolo di antagonista da sconfiggere.

Il nonno del protagonista infatti, non è malefico, infido o perverso. Quest'uomo è un cinico bastardo, arguto capitalista inflessibile, esigente, a tratti crudele, machiavellico, spregiudicato...ma ha anche dei difetti

Ma allora perché il migliore?

Perché se è difficile creare un eroe in una storia, ancor più difficile è creare un avversario credibile da battere ed il Nonno del protagonista è stato un incredibile rivale per il nipote. Per Do Jun battere il nonno in affari è l'unico modo per mostrare quanto vale, a costo di farlo soffrire.

Ed il finale del personaggio del Nonno è incredibilmente triste e se la serie è riuscita a farmi empatizzare con un tale personaggio, un uomo mostrato spesso nel suo lato peggiore, c'è solo da fare degli applausi.

21) Il finale peggiore: I Am The Years You Are The Star

Qui il premio c'è a mani basse. Dopo 24 episodi che mi rompi il caz..o sulla SICURISSIMA morte della protagonista. poiché malata di una malattia sconosciuta ma incurabile... [SPOILER] lei guarisce. Da cosa non si sa. Come non si sa. Ma lei adesso sta bene. Giusto in tempo per coronare il suo sogno d'amore. Non è bellissimo??! [FINE SPOILER]

Quando sono arrivata al finale ero così basita e fuori dai miei panni che mi sono trovata a ridere istericamente per 10 minuti buoni.

Questo non è un finale. E' una presa per il cu..o.

22) La protagonista femminile preferita: My love from the star

La star Cheon Song Yi. Donna con i contro cazzi ma capace di essere alla mano e super divertente. Nonostante il ruolo da attrice famosissima, Song Yi rimane una ragazza alla mano che fa cose che tutte noi potremmo fare: cantare ubriache davanti alla tv, fare telefonate senza senso o scenate degne della migliore tragedia greca.

Ma oltre a ciò, Cheon Song Yi è anche una donna decisa, che sa quel che vuole e risponde per le rime a chi non la rispetta.

E se qualcosa va male, non si deprime pensando che la sua vita è rovinata ecc..ecc ma prende le cose come vengono. Decisa sì a rimettere in piedi la sua vita dopo i vari problemi ma senza piangersi addosso ogni 3 minuti o implorare l'aiuto di altri.

23) La scena o frase che ti è rimasta impressa: Reborn Rich

Di nuovo Reborn Rich e qui metterò papale papale la scena incriminata: [SPOILER]

Io non credo che potrò mai dimenticare il 12° episodio: la scena nell'ascensore, quando il Nonno dopo una sfuriata colossale al lead, si fa la pipì addosso e guarda il ragazzo con lo sguardo disperato è di una potenza stratosferica. Credo di aver pianto. Tornando alla scena dell'ascensore, quella è emblematica per mostrare i diversi livelli di attaccamento dei due nipoti verso il nonno: mentre il maggiore mette consapevolmente il nonno in difficoltà, mettendolo appositamente in imbarazzo, desideroso di mostrare agli altri la demenza del Nonno per il proprio tornaconto, Do Jin protegge la dignità dell'anziano, rovesciando appositamente il secchio d'acqua per nascondere la pipì del vecchio e non far capire alla donna delle pulizie lì presente, quello che era successo.[FINE SPOILER] Nonno e Nipote si ritrovano a proteggersi a vicenda cementificando un legame già stupendo e regalando allo spettatore tutta l'intensità di questa relazione ormai arrivata alle battute finali ma che è stata così incisiva e bellissima lungo tutto l'arco della serie.

Ci ho ripensato per giorni a questa scena e ancora adesso mi fa scendere la lacrimuccia e mi fa commuovere.

24) Il villain peggiore: W

Cosa c'è di peggio di un cattivo scritto male??

Uno che non esiste. e voilà

Eh già. Perché il fantastico autore di questo fumetto ha pensato bene di dare al villain un valore emotivo e non narrativo e quindi non strutturando nessuna storia attorno a lui. [SPOILER]

Il cattivo di W e poi anche del fumetto, non ha motivazioni, non ha background, non ha nulla. Semplicemente è un cartonato che sta lì per ammazzare la famiglia del lead, incastrarlo per omicidio della stessa e ciao. Adios amigos. [FINE SPOILER]

Terribile. E lo so che dovrei prendermela con lo scrittore del fumetto per aver creato sto mostro di nonsense, ma siccome si vota il "villain peggiore" e l'autore non si è impegnato manco mezzo secondo per crearlo, il voto della vergogna se lo prende lui.

25) Una bromance spettacolare: Tale Of The Nine Tailed

Qui voto per il fratelli volpe. Lee Rang e Lee Yeon lungo tutte le due stagioni hanno un rapporto molto strano: Il minore è legatissimo al fratello - quasi ossessivo - ama suo fratello ma lo risente per averlo abbandonato. Vorrebbe passare del tempo con lui ma ha sempre il terrore di affezionarsi e poi soffrire nel caso che Yeon [SPOILER[ lo abbandoni di nuovo. [FINE SPOILER]

D'altra parte Yeon adora il fratellino ma vorrebbe vivere una vita sua, stare con la ragazza che ama e vorrebbe che anche Rang trovasse una sua strada che sia a prescindere dalla vita di Yeon.

Nella prima stagione tra i due fratelli c'è maretta e una dinamica conflittuale ma che allo stesso tempo è amorevole. Nella seconda, le cose vanno ancora meglio ed i due fratelli finalmente si riappacificano e trovano ognuno la propria strada.

Una bromance carina, profonda e divertente che rivedo sempre volentieri.

What’s the buzzfeed trio’s favorite games?

So for all intents and purposes, I had intended to put the buzzfeed unsolved au in the late 90/early 2000s but I also know that you probably want the answer to what MODERN games they like so I'll do both( also I think I may have to change the date)

90s/EARLY 2000s GAMES

Charlie adores the 1996 original Resident Evil game and it's precursor Sweet Home but also things like American McGee's Alice and Silent Hill 1 or even Clock Tower. She's made a lot of friends to get overseas games. Horror games are her favorite but she has a soft spot for Final Fantasy (fun fact the first FF game came out in 1987 lol).

Michael got a Mortal Combat Cabinet into his house that he "borrowed" from Fredbear's that he custom painted the sides of, he will play it for hours at a time and Charlie and Jeremy don't get how he can stand for so long. he also loves those text-based adventure games and is totally a DnD nerd and he and Jeremy do one shots all the time with a group every two weeks.

Jeremy absolutely loves A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening but other than the DnD games he plays with Mike he's not really a game person otherwise but thinks making them would be cool so he's got a ton of folders filled with ideas.

MODERN GAMES

Charlie is a chronic speedrunner so anything where she can attempt to beat the game in less than two hours is fun to her but she will take the time to play any Resident Evil game slowly and carefully first before going into speedrunner mode because she likes that style of game. Michael and Jeremy once gifted her a copy of Haunting Ground and DinoCrisis 2 respectively and she legitimately cried and hugged them for about 10 minutes straight because people kept outbidding her on copies and she really wanted to play them.

Michael absolutely HATES having to sit still to play video games so anything like JustDance or DDR is his bread and butter. He also really likes VR games and has an awesome set up from guilt money from his parents and has passed almost every beat saber label at S+. DnD is the only thing he can sit down and play but to be honest he preferes LARPing because movement. Charlie also got him a Switch one year and he just plays it while walking around and somehow has not walked into anything yet however Jeremy has stolen it to play Animal Crossing several times.

Jeremy likes games like Minecraft or Terraria but only once he's modded the hell out of both games. He also like team based games like Dead By Daylight or Team Fortress 2 because he likes making friend's with randoms. He also secretly has 100% stardew valley over 4 times but doesn't want Michael or Charlie to know because then they'd want to play with him and he can not deal with Charlie's min/maxing and Michael's habit of stealing items and staying up until 2 AM literally ever night. He also really likes Pokemon Snap because my version of Jeremy is a big fan of photography!

I GOT THE JOB AT THE BEE FARM!!! 🎉🎉🎉

I'm obv very happy about it lol. The coffee shop gig was good to get me back on my feet, but this is much more fulfilling and pays better, thankfully. I'm too old and have too many bills to be making minimum wage and sharing meager tips, sadly. Plus, bees!!! 😍🐝

The farm is beautiful. It's about 30 min away from where I live, but the drive is worth it. It's quiet and green. I met most of the employees, and they are all wonderful. Everyone has their own unique and incredible talents and skills that they bring to the table; it's a bit intimidating! So much creativity and drive. But I'm very excited to work with them and be a part of the experience.

They have multiple plots of land in many locations around south Texas, where they keep multiple colonies. They sell their queens to people, as well as their own hand crafted boxes and other tools of the trade. They have a gift shop on the property where they sell their own handmade bee product items, as well as other relevant gifts and books. They have training courses for new bee keepers, glamping cabins for rent, a beautiful bnb loft in the honey processing barn, a meadery, and a small restaurant. They want me to be a flex employee, able to cross train and pitch in where I'm needed, but they were specifically excited about my culinary and barista experience. They want to start selling coffee at the restaurant and need some help getting that started.

The family that owns the farm has been keeping bees for generations, but they came into their commercial success in the 90s when they began to selectively breed for mite resistant queens in order to create stronger and healthier colonies. People now travel from every corner of the country to buy their queens for their hives, due to their success. Naturally, the farm focuses on education and conservation, which I am also very passionate about. I want to be involved in helping save the pollinators and protect our most vital resource, the natural world.

It's such an exciting new adventure! I should be hearing from the owner about scheduling today 💛

Day 16 - 90 Day Challenge 🎀

I was still in a lot of pain yesterday (Thursday), it was a very odd pain, but I've woken up today (Friday) and it's finally gone! I'm excited because now I can move around without that uncomfortable feeling. I still didn't do much yesterday but I figured it was worth an update, regardless. That's the point of this challenege. Accountability and consistency.

walked to work (~20 min)

scheduled my gym times for today and next week

found out the gym hours for my campus gym for the first part of winter break so I can schedule in gym time for then too

made myself get up and out of bed after work to curb how I was feeling (felt kinda numb and decided I needed to do something productive about it)

therapy appointment! (may have been my last one until january, thank you gobernment for ending my health insurance coverage today)

was honest with my boyfriend about how I was feeling (was super grateful with how he handled it, hes so patient and understanding and kind to me, I'm so happy with my relationship with this man. I love him, so much)

📚 Intellectual Health

completed the respiratory lab report for my Anatomy lab

made a list of things to accomplish Friday morning (at the study room I booked)

filled in my planner with the rest of the assignment I have due

🏘 Adulting

worked a ~4 hour shift (recieved an actual frozen ham as our christmas gift from work)

cooked spaghetti for dinner for myself (needed comfort food)

I actually did a good amount of things yesterday, surprising with how much time I spent in bed not feeling like myself. But today is going to be a good day! My goals for today are to have a decent morning routine, finish and submit my final research study paper for my psyc class, attend the make up lab session for anatomy, attend the lan session for my psyc final exam (that's on monday), go to the gym, and make it through my work shift.
