September 1986 - my friend Tony (who was the first person I knew who listened to Skinny Puppy and rocked a Robert Smith up ‘do) and I finagled our way into the Chicago premiere of Blue Velvet. We were both obsessed with Eraserhead and had to see David Lynch’s new film, which we immediately loved. Some others at the showing, not so much, as a number of people noisily complained and walked out. Afterwards, Tony and I recalled our favorite parts as we ate hamburgers at the Rock ‘n Roll McDonalds, we both realized what a top shelf event and film we had just experienced. True story

very tempted to add to the type of "wine-dark* sea" discourse on ancient colour names and call blue AND green by the same name. gonna start innocuous and say things that could be ambiguously green/blue like "the sky was as clear as jade", and then clothesline unsuspecting readers with "the blue grass and trees". the best part of writing is the PVP.

**my hot take is that red wine served in a clay (opaque) vessel would just look black, so it's describing a dark, stormy sea. source: i drink wine out of teacups.
