Guys if I pointed out that Stuart Skinner and Vincent Desharnais were each other’s rock while they were being sent up and down the minors, majors, and super minors (ECHL). And that their high five is a momento of those times, and as a reminder of where they started and how far they’ve come. What if I told you guys that they’ve been in love for more than five years, would you guys care then? 🥺🥺

Alrighty, it's been about 10 years since I last wrote anything, but I am deep in hockey at the moment and Stu and Vinny have dragged me back into it. Please enjoy 👉🏻👈🏻

The house is dark and quiet by the time Vinny get home. He does his best not to make a noise as he sets his bag down, running a hand over his newly shaven head. No matter how many times he shaves it, it always feels weird for the first few days. Walking into the living room, he expects to see the TV on and rugged up bundle on the couch but it’s empty aside from the tissue boxes and cough medicine strewn across the coffee table. Sighing, Vinny makes his way towards the bedroom, hoping to find Stu curled up in his bed.

He pushes the door open slowly and smiles as he hears the congested heavy breathing coming from the bed. Poor Stu, he’d been far too sick to attend the Leucan event with Vinny and Alex and hadn’t been happy about missing it. Deciding not to disturb him, Vinny tries to retreat from the bedroom just as Stu inhales and rolls over, reaching a hand out for him.

“How’d it go?” Stu asks as Vinny sits next to him on the bed.

“It was good. Great turn out.”

“How much did they get?”

“Almost $70,000”

Stu hums and runs his hand gently over Vinny’s head, feeling every bump along the way until he comes to a stop cradling the back of Vinny’s skull. “What will I tell my grandchildren?”

Vinny huffs out a laugh, “What?”

“S’from a movie.”

“Oh.” He knows Stu loves his hair and has never complained before but suddenly Vinny’s worried that maybe this isn’t a good look for him. “You don’t like it?”

Stu smiles and strokes his thumb over Vinny’s cheek. “Mmm. Still pretty.”

“Must be the fever talking.” Vinny reaches out and pushes Stu’s hair back from his face, checking his temperature as he went. He frowns at how warm Stu still is. “Have you been drinking water?”

“Mmhmm.” Stu drops his hand and his eyes slide closed as the exhaustion takes over.

Vinny sighs and tucks the blankets in tighter around Stu. “Retourne dormir chérie.”

“I know that one.”

“What one?”

“Chérie”

Vinny chuckles and leans in closer. “I said, go back to sleep.”

“Chérie.”

“Yeah. Chérie.”

“Okay.”

Vinny goes to stand and let him sleep but Stu reaches out and grabs Vinny’s hand, pulling him down until he’s tucked in behind Stu. Smiling, Vinny cuddles in closer and slips his hand under Stu’s shirt, resting it on his stomach. Pressing a gentle kiss behind Stu’s ear he whispers, “Je t'aime.”

Stuart jolts awake, covered in a cold sweat and reaching for Vinny but only finding the empty, cold sheets next to him. Panic almost sets in before his eyes adjust and he realises that he’s in a hotel room; they’re on the road and they have separate rooms. Sitting up, Stuart presses his fingers against his eyes and takes a deep breath. Vinny’s only a few rooms away, he’s fine. It was just a dream.

Stuart starts having dreams about Vinny being injured on the ice. He thinks he can cope with them, but as they steadily worse he finds both his relationship and career impacted by his actions.
