it's kinda weird that when you look at health recommendations for various medical conditions associated with fatness it's always 'just lose 10% of your body weight to see a risk reduction' (so like 20-30 pounds for the average overweight or obese person according to the bmi) but then in day to day medicine there's not really a way of like, removing obesity as a diagnosis on your insurance paperwork for example, even if by a certain standard you've lost enough weight to reduce the risk of health conditions that insurance would be concerned about. if you're an average height weighing 300 pounds and lose 30 pounds, which seems to be the amount that's considered reasonable to lose and maintain if you want to like, reduce your cholesterol, you've gone from morbidly obese to morbidly obese.

When people join self-improvement or even hobbyist communities, there are some absolutely critical skills of fundamental skepticism they need when going in. I think most people who get into these communities aren't aware of these.
And just, as a fundamental few:
Does this person stand to gain financially from the thing they're trying to sell you on?
Is the business model of this whole community one of artificial competitiveness? Is there a pressure around never lapsing, or never straying from the model being sold to you?
Are the claims made in this community becoming bolder and bolder deviations from standard information?
These are absolutely rife in fitness, nutrition, and financial-advice communities and they often receive very little scrutiny except among those who already "got out." Because from the outside, seeing someone get into fitness is a good thing, good for them, glad to see it, look at that dedication, happy for them. Same on the other categories, and probably numerous others I haven't seen.

Does this person stand to gain financially from the thing they're trying to sell you on?
If the answer is yes, that does NOT mean "immediately abort", it means keep that in mind when you're interacting with their content.
This nutrition influencer has given you some great recipes for free, and now they're promoting a "really fantastic" brand that they have an affiliate link with? Their motivation isn't to be your friend and helpfully clue you in on a great product. It's to make money off you.
You really like this fitness influencer's work outs, but she gets MORE interaction and MORE viewers the skinnier she gets? She CLAIMS she's been losing weight naturally with healthy eating and exercise, and she's still full of energy, and You Can Too. This is not your friend. This is not someone who knows you. This is someone under large financial and social pressure to do everything she can to put out her best appearance and her happiest appearance, and your attention and belief in the appearance is where the money and clout come from. You really need to remember this in the same way you remember to look both ways before crossing the street. You can cross a street and you can follow a fitness account, but protect yourself when doing it.

Communities stay strong if they retain people. There are a lot of fine and positive ways to retain people, but it's often easier to retain people by instilling them with a sense that they must be here. They should feel bad if they lapse or if their attention drifts. What they were before was inadequate. Everyone outside this community is inadequate. Do you want to go back to inadequate?
Is that financial subreddit that taught you valuable lessons about 401k's, index funds, and budgeting also quietly pressuring you to always do more? Are the top posts from extremist examples of people living in destitution so they can show the most extreme screenshot, and curate the envy of everyone else who ought to be ashamed of not doing as well as them?
Is that fitness community that got you into jogging also putting you in the mind that the truest and best people exercise 7 days a week? Never miss a metric? Never compromise on their dedication?
Is that person who "cut out all sugar and feels amazing" informing you that you should never have another cupcake in your life? And if you DO it's because you're BAD and DON'T WORRY, you'll get RIGHT back on the horse after. Shame will motivate you to come right back, and stay with the community, and never leave.
As long as you stay, the community grows. As long as you stay, the ad sponsors and the endorsed products and the influencers can benefit more and more. And sometimes, there's perhaps not even a malicious force behind it. It can happen from evolutionary pressures. The communities that survive are the ones that retain people. A community that trips accidentally into a model of pressuring people to stay is one which retains people and thrives.

You joined because you wanted to learn to cook for yourself. And this community has been helpful! You know how to make some delicious things. You've tried vegetables you've never tried before. And maybe you needed some convincing that brussel sprouts can be yummy, but what do you know, turns out you like them roasted.
But what else is being said? What things are being said with more and more frequency? Is it that "humans don't actually need any sugar, and it's a poison being sold to us?" Is it that "seed oils are toxic for you"? Is it that "pasteurization is bad"? Is the raw fruitarian convincing you that cavemen lived exclusively off fruit and you can too?
They'll have sources sometimes. Check them. Are they cherry-picked? Are they from an insular echo-chamber? Why isn't the mainstream literature aware of this? And if the answer has anything to do with "because mainstream wants to TRICK YOU and you're actually BAD for ASKING" then don't engage. Disregard. Take the recipes if you must but apply your skeptical filter to all the parts that are snake oil.
Sometimes it's that another community is only a stone's throw away. That person with a great financial portfolio has only good things to say about crypto, and what they're saying is making sense (average person [not smart] [poor] [bad money skills] laughs at crypto, but you're smarter. you're on the in-track). That amazing bodybuilder is pulling the hottest dates, and he says it's about male-confidence, and he says there are good support guides on becoming a respectable masculine man, and all you need to do is reclaim your masculinity in a society that wants to steal it from you.
In any place like this, come up for air. Come up for air FREQUENTLY. Talk to regular people and engage in academic literature outside this circle. Conspiracy thinking wins if you draw all your information from the entity trying to sell you on the conspiracy.

And I hope this is clear but my message is not "never join a community." My message is know danger when you see it. Recognize when you're being used or pressured. Don't fall for conspiracy thinking. Protect yourself. You can use a gas stove to cook meals but don't touch the flame and don't burn your house down. You can cross the street but recognize the signs of a car coming down the street.
And I'm making this point because so many people just don't know. ...Because getting into fitness is "good" and "self-improvement"! So is nutrition. So if financial responsibility. People walk into it and the extremism can make them feel accomplished, and admired, and like they're a part of something, and maybe even like a proper self-punishment for their own inadequacies. And people on the outside won't save you because "Wow! He spends 3 hours at the gym every day! I wish I was that dedicated." is a common attitude, and will push you deeper into what has its claws in you.
Everything I'm saying is not because I'm so much smarter and so much holier-than-thou for knowing this when others don't--I'm saying this because I was in it. I fell for it. Not all the examples above, of course. But I recognize the machine in them. It is highly appealing to run farther and fast longer and overload your class schedule when you don't feel good enough and want to prove something, and so many communities will sell you on the idea this IS an accomplishment. Then once you do, you have to do it forever. Or else you'll go back to not being good enough. And since fitness is "good", and weight-loss and good grades, no one can save you but you.
The answer was not to give up on the hobbies I was doing. I cook for myself most nights. I run and bike as regular parts of my routine. I like new recipes and I like half-marathons. But these are just positive additions to my life and they do not define my worth. If I miss a work-out it's whatever. If I order take-out it's whatever. I fundamentally do not care about the influencer with the washboard abs, and if I try a work-out from her, I have no loyalty to it. If the new recipe I try mentions "clean eating" I'll roll my eyes and just figure out if the recipe seems good. If the recipe is botching itself to avoid certain scare-words I will simply find something else.
There is absolutely a reasonable place for challenging yourself and trying things outside your comfort zone. The internet is full of resources to do so much more than you currently know how to do. And if that community is an oven, recognize it's an oven. Wear oven mitts. If it's actively on fire, leave. You're the only one protecting you. Stay safe.

some things i've manifested
these are some basic stories, but i have some "crazy" ones i might share if you guys want lol
note: before manifesting i used to have a pretty "normal" life. i was conventionally attractive, middle classs, etc. i didn't really "need" anything but a social life and better grades. regardless of that, i just manifested whatever i wanted and didn't limit myself. i also added a few little stories behind them.
appearance change:
changed my hair texture to curly
grew from 5'2 to 5'6
clear, even skin and skin tone (tbh i already had a really good skincare routine, my skin was super clear bc of that BUT my face used to be like 10 shades darker than the rest of my body and i had CRAZY backne and strawberry legs)
losing 30 pounds (i used to be 72kg, now i'm 58kg)
changed my shoe size (i used to be size 9 now i'm size 7)
changed my hand size (for reference, my hands used to be a little longer than my phone, i had a "pro max" sized phone.)
social life:
having good friends in my state (im from up north and was completely lonely in the state i live in now)
popularity (i used to be pretty irrelevant but now everybody likes me and wants to be around me)
getting my sp's (i manifested them from scratch and took inspired action to meet them)
having people crush on me more overtly/ getting approached more (this is kind of a weird one, before my appearance change i was pretty attractive like maybe a 7/10, but i got tired of people just ogling me and not approaching me. i only had the unattractive and overconfident guys approaching me, all the attractive ones just stared lol)
just being likable lol (people used to feel threatened by me or feel like i was standoffish for some reason. idrk tbh but it was VERY annoying. i literally used to get accused of "acting like i own the place" for being quiet and just existing 💀. i didn't really care what they thought, but i hated when they complained about it and tried to make it my problem.)
school:
higher gpa (i used to have a 3.0 but i manifested a 3.8, which is a weighted 4.0)
high grades (i used to fail many tests/exams and have a mix of a, b, and c's. now they're all a's)
dream college acceptance
teachers liking me (they actually used to hate my guts it was so annoying 😭)
school crushes liking me back (tbh they probably thought i was already attractive but they never spoke to me or seemed like they wanted to get to know me)
leaving early (my school day ends at like 12 now)
lifestyle:
living closer to the city
having my dream routine (i have my dream skincare products, haircare products, diet, and health routines.)
having a high self concept (tbh i technically always did, i knew what i wanted and deserved. i just felt more like i was being injusticed. so i got rid of the "unwilling victim" mentality. i also used to ruminate on irrelevant things, like mistakes i made, what people thought of me, etc.)
very high confidence (in my looks, abilities, judgement, etc.)
money for my parents and myself
having a busy, productive life (i used to hate school because my grades weren't contributing to anything i wanted to do in life, so i wanted a productive life outside of that.)
always getting my way
getting all sorts of things for free
and more!
i'd say this all took me around 2-3 months, not because manifesting takes time, but because i assumed a lot of things would take time. i also had periods of doubt in myself and tried to handle things in the 3d on my own for some time.. which obviously didn't work. still, all i did was assume and accept these things as true and they happened overnight, in a day, or within that week. the longest anything's taken me is like 7 days, and that was because i kept wavering in my mind. manifestation is truly instant.
but anyways, i hope this is motivational and helpful. i do have some pretty "ridiculous" stories like some revenge stories, "crazy" stories regarding sp's, some not very appropriate stories, really good things happening to me, and others.

I can imagine that in a situation like this, joking about it would be Leo's way of trying to calm down both himself and those around him.
I can also imagine that if Donnie wasn't there or had no way of knowing what happened at the exact moment, he would be absolutely floored to see that not only has his brother lost an arm......but he's making jokes about it If only he had heard even half of the ones Mikey had to hear on the way back

halsey's discography and the age of 28 is sooooo. i hope you make it to the day you're 28 years old. posting a birthday card captioned "i made it to the day im 28 years old. im one hundred ninety-six in dog years (1 human year = 7 dog years and 196/7 = 28). i watched my friends die before twenty-one, and now im twenty-eight im at the doctor's every day because i can't stop losing weight. for her to tweet about this album being their 2 year old existential crisis, when she was actually 28 years old (and possibly not sure if she would survive her illness) to the great impersonator being one of their rawest, deeply emotional albums yet some of her most critically acclaimed bodies of work so far.......it takes a lot of courage to share your most personal pieces of art with the world but im so glad they did because it will touch so many lives in a positive way

The locker room was suffocating after the loss against the Chargers. The air was heavy with the scent of sweat, bitter frustration, and dissatisfaction. Reporters circled like preying vultures, their questions sharp and relentless, making the voices inside his head even louder. Cameras flashed without any hesitation, the artificial light burning into his already pounding head. His ears rang, his pulse thundered against the walls of his arteries, and the words coming at him blurred together into one indistinct buzz.
Joe could barely hear himself think.
This game had been as brutal as they come. Physically, emotionally, mentally--everything about it had left him battered and bruised. From the slow start before the half--24-6--to not one, but two missed field goals, countless defensive struggles, time mismanagement, and playcalling being a nagging issue. Everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong. Every mistake replayed in his head like a cruel highlight reel, the weight of it pressing down on his chest, making it harder to breathe.
The incessant voices, the buzzing overhead lights, the grating questions--What went wrong? What happened? Why didn’t you do more? It was all layering over him, crushing him from every direction.
It was too much. It was drowning him.
This put them in a tough spot, and Joe knew that. He knew it better than anyone. He didn't need to be reminded by anyone and everyone with a mouth and a microphone. If he had to hear the words, 4-7, one more time, he might just fall to his knees at the mention of their standing.
He was giving it his all each and every week, yet somehow, it was never enough. It was never enough for them to win, it was never enough for the league to acknowledge his hard work, it was never enough for himself.
Right now, he was sitting on the chair in front of his locker while Ja'marr and Tee rattled on about how they need to do better at closing games, better at managing the clock, how they need to keep the Bengals in that conversation as it was getting increasingly hard to since they had nothing but one SuperBowl appearance and two AFC championship appearances to back it up.
They were telling Joe everything he already knew.
Tee yanked off his cleats with a frustrated grunt, the sound echoing in the otherwise eerily quiet locker room. "We can’t lose after the bye. At all. Or we’re totally fucked," his words were blunt, his discontent practically radiating off of him, a heavy cloud that lingered not just over his head but throughout the locker room.
Ja'marr rolled his eyes, not even trying to hide his irritation. "I don't know 'bout y'all, but I'm getting real tired of these reporters running their fucking mouths. We know we suck, no need to rephrase it every way humanly possible,".
Joe didn’t answer to any of their complaints and venting, despite knowing that as the leader of this team and as their friend, he should be doing something to ease their worries. His eyes stared blankly ahead, his mind running a thousand miles per minute as he tried to breathe through the frustration tightening in his chest. Every word, every criticism, felt like it was clawing at him, making it harder to focus on what really mattered--keeping his cool while he kept his team together. He could feel the pressure creeping up his neck, settling into his bones, reminding him of everything he hadn’t been able to fix, everything he hadn’t done well enough. He could feel the expectations, the endless hunger for more from himself and from the team, threatening to overcome him.
"You can't keep someone else together if you can't keep yourself together,".
That voice. Sweet as sugar, smooth as honey, soft as a cloud.
Your voice.
The only one that he could hear through the buzz in his head.
But you weren’t here.
And without you, the weight of it all was suffocating. The importance of the loss, the looming consequences, the endless chatter about the playoffs--it bore down on him, stubborn, inescapable. If he spoke now, even he didn’t know what would come out. Frustration? Defeat?
Something he couldn’t take back?
So he just sat there, silent. Letting them talk. Letting their words blend into the static already buzzing in his head.
His fingers curled into fists, nails biting into his palms, grounding himself in the sting. He needed to get out. The walls of the locker room felt too close, the air too thick, the rock on his chest too heavy to bear for another second. He wasn’t sure how much longer he could sit there, pretending it was all fine, pretending he wasn’t fraying in the eyes of his teammates.
And that noise. That god awful noise.
It wouldn't shut up.
And all he wanted was to disappear.
To escape, to breathe, to find something--someone--to hold onto before he drowned in it all.
He needed you.
The only person who could quiet the storm raging in his head. The only person who never demanded answers, never pushed him to speak when the words felt too heavy to say. You just knew--you always knew. You saw past the clenched jaw, the stiff shoulders, the foggy eyes, and you never asked for anything in return. You just gave. Your presence, your touch, your understanding.
He needed the steady rhythm of your heartbeat against his ear, the warmth of your fingers threading through his hair, the quiet reassurance in your eyes that told him he wasn’t alone. That he didn’t have to be Joe Burrow, the quarterback, or Joe Burrow, the leader.
With you, he was just Joe.
And right now, that was all he wanted to be.
He couldn’t sit here any longer, couldn’t force himself to listen, to nod, to act like he wasn’t barely holding it together.
So he moved.
Without a word, he pushed himself up from the chair, his movements stiff, almost mechanical. He grabbed his bags, slinging them over his shoulder with a quiet urgency, his pulse throbbing in his ears. And then, without looking back, he started walking toward the exit.
Behind him, his teammates noticed his sudden shift in demeanor. Ja'marr raised an eyebrow, pausing mid-conversation, while Tee threw him a confused look.
"Yo, where you going?" Tee asked, but Joe didn’t stop.
He didn’t owe them an explanation. He didn’t owe anyone anything right now. The murmurs, the unspoken questions, the tension in the room; it all faded into the background. None of it mattered.
Not when he could already feel you--the only person who knew how to pull him out of the chaos.
With each step, the noise of the locker room faded, the pressure in his chest loosening just a little now that he was putting some much needed distance between himself and everything suffocating him. But the relief was brief. Every step felt like it was heavier than the last, the walk stretching endlessly before him as he passed players, staff members, people who were giving him that look.
The look of pity.
When he finally reached the stadium doors, he didn’t hesitate. He pushed them open, stepping into the cool night air like a man emerging for his first real breath in ages. The crispness stung his lungs, but it was better than the stifling heat of frustration and failure that clung to him inside.
Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out his phone, checking the time--only to be met with a flood of texts.
Tee: yo man, where'd you go? the buses won't be here for another 30
Ja'marr: you good?
Sam: hey, saw you cleared out your stuff. where'd you go? we're not outta here for a little while
And then, another came in.
You: hey baby. i'm so sorry about tonight's game. please don’t beat yourself up over this. i’m always here if you need to talk :( i know you were really riding on this one to turn things around before the bye. just know i love you, and i'm so proud of you. i'm back at the hotel but i'll see you when we get back to cincy, okay?
You: but if you need to, call me.
Your words hit him like a wave--not the kind that dragged him under, not the kind that left him gasping for air. No, this was different.
It was a wave of fresh air, crisp and cool, filling his lungs where the pressure had been before. A wave that washed away the tension, rinsing off the exhaustion clinging to his skin.
A wave that felt like you.
Your words weren’t just comforting; they were exactly what he needed to hear, a glimpse of the steady presence he was craving. It was enough to make the tightness in his chest loosen, just a bit. She wasn’t asking him to be okay. She was just letting him know she was there. And that was all that mattered.
His fingers hovered over the keyboard for a moment, unsure if he should respond to his worried teammates before he sent you a text back. He didn’t want to snap or say something he’d regret to them, but the guilt of slipping away so abruptly gnawed at him. Even though he couldn’t be what they needed right now, he could at least let them know he hadn’t abandoned them completely.
So, he decided to send a brief text to all three.
Needed to get out. I'm going to her hotel. Don't wait up.
He knew he was breaking at least two different league codes by doing this--going to you when he was supposed to be boarding the plane home in an hour--but in that moment, he couldn't get himself to care. The locker room felt like it was closing in on him, choking him.
"Breathe, Joe," he mumbled to himself, but it did nothing to ease the returning pressure building in his chest. Even the mere thought of the night made him feel worse.
The only thing that felt real, the only thing that made any sense right now, was you.
So, without thinking twice, he clicked back on your contact and sent a text back to you.
I love you.
It was simple, but it was everything. It was the only thing that mattered.
The next thing Joe knew, he was in the backseat of an Uber, staring blankly outside the window. The city lights cast a harsh glow onto his exhausted, defeated face, amplifying the shadows beneath his eyes and highlighting how pale he’d become in the last few hours. His breath was shallow, a sharp contrast to the rhythm of his heartbeat, which thumped aimlessly in his chest. His hands were trembling, fingers clutching his thighs as if grounding himself would keep him from floating away.
But the pressure in his chest--heavy, crushing, like an unseen force--had only intensified. It felt as if the world itself going black around him, forcing him deeper into the confined space of the car. Each breath he pulled felt shallow, as if the air around him had thickened like molasses, it being replaced by a rigid force of the public's expectations, judgments, and self-doubt. The echoes of the voices in the stadium still haunted his mind, but being alone in the car, trapped with his spiraling thoughts, was even more unbearable than he realized.
And then it hit him. The radio.
The recap of the game blared through the speakers, repeating every mistake, every misstep, every lost opportunity. It was like someone had opened a door to a room full of harsh, biting voices, each one reminding him of everything that had gone wrong. The analysts hummed on, their voices cold and indifferent, dissecting the Bengals’ performance.
"Another missed chance for Joe Burrow, a disappointing loss for the team--,".
Great. Just great.
Joe could feel his stomach twist, his chest tightening even more as they tore apart the very thing he had fought for all night. He could hear their voices--"Same old Bengals. Same old Joe Burrow. Not enough."--repeating over and over in his mind, louder than the actual commentary. He could feel it in his veins, like an electric current of doubt, of failure, surging through him.
The worst part wasn’t even the game, though. It was the nagging feeling that no one saw him for what he was--more than just a player on a losing team. No matter how great he was on the field, no matter how hard he pushed through each and every game, the team’s performance overpowered his individual efforts. And that? That was the worst feeling of them all. The feeling of neglect. The feeling of being overlooked, unseen, despite doing everything he could.
It wasn’t enough. He wasn’t enough.
His hands gripped the edge of the seat, knuckles white with the effort of holding himself together. But with every word from the announcers, every criticism that hit him like a punch to the gut, his anxiety surged higher, chewing at him from the inside. His breath came faster, shorter, and the world around him began to blur, the lights from the city outside dancing in his vision.
He had to get out of there. He had to get somewhere quiet, somewhere safe where he didn’t have to listen to them anymore.

His chest felt like it might cave in on itself, and he wasn’t sure how much longer he could stay in this small, confining space, trapped between his thoughts and the echo of their words. His phone buzzed in his pocket, surely another text from his teammates, but he couldn’t bring himself to look at it--he was already gone.
Everything felt too much. Too loud. He needed space--he needed you.
His hands fumbled with the door handle once the car pulled up in front of your hotel. His legs were unsteady, like he couldn’t find his footing on the ground beneath him. His breath was coming too fast, short and jagged, like his lungs weren’t getting enough air no matter how hard he tried. His fingers tingled, and his vision blurred again as a fog crept over his mind.
By the time he reached the door of your room, his entire body was buzzing with anxiety, the skin on his arms and chest feeling too tight, like it couldn’t contain the frantic energy pulsing underneath. His mind raced faster than he could process, every thought crashing into the next. It felt like his brain was moving too fast for him to keep up, too fast for him to breathe.
His hand shook as he reached for the handle, but before he could touch it, the door swung open.
And then, there you were.
Soft, warm, steady--everything he wasn’t.
Your brows furrowed immediately, eyes scanning over him in an instant, picking up on every subtle sign: the tension in his shoulders, the way his chest was rising and falling too quickly, the distant, unfocused look in his eyes.
You saw it all. You always did.
You didn't need him to speak. You could feel it in the air, in the way he stood there, barely holding it together.
"Come here," you murmured, your voice calm, soothing.
Joe didn’t hesitate.
He stepped inside, the door clicking shut behind him. The second the space was closed off from the rest of the world, he dropped his bags and his hands found your waist, clutching at you like he might crumble if he let go. His forehead dropped to your shoulder, his breath shaky, uneven, because he couldn't get enough air.
"I can’t--," his voice broke, strained, each word like it was a struggle to push out. "I can’t breathe,".
Without thinking, your hands immediately went to him, one curling around the back of his neck, the other smoothing down his back. You could feel the frenzied pace of his pulse beneath your fingertips, the way he was shaking, not just with anxiety but with the overwhelming need for relief.
"Yes, you can," you whispered, voice filled with confidence. "You’re safe. Just breathe with me, baby,".
But it wasn’t that easy. Not for him. His chest was too compressed, his ribs constricting, refusing to expand the way they should. The panic was rising in him, clawing at his throat, sinking deeper into his chest with every breath he couldn’t take.
"He's slipping again," you frowned to yourself as a flashback of all of the times he'd come to you like this played in your head. You'd been through this too many times to count, so you knew what he needed.
You had to guide him.
You slipped your hand over his heart, pressing your palm flat against his chest. His breath hitched at the sudden touch, his heartbeat erratic beneath your hand, but you didn’t pull away. Instead, you held your palm there, anchoring him. "Feel me?" you nodded. "Right here. Just focus on that,".
Joe’s fingers dug into your hoodie, gripping at you like a lifeline, desperate not to let go. His breathing was still too fast, still uneven, but your touch--your calm presence--was helping, even if just a little. His head was still foggy, his thoughts tangled up in a mess of frustration and self-doubt, trying to crawl out from under the weight that had been holding him down all night. He wanted to focus, wanted to feel the calm that you brought him, but his mind kept drifting.
"I can’t…I don’t…agh," he mumbled, his breath catching on every word, a frown tugging at his features as he struggled to find the right thing to say, or even the right way to feel. His chest tightened again, and his hands quivered slightly, like he couldn’t quite catch his breath or his words. The panic threatened to creep back, the pressure of everything creeping up his body, trying to pull him down again.
You could feel him falling. Feel the tension returning, the struggle to stay present, and it broke your heart just a little bit. You knew he wasn’t just fighting the anxiety, he was fighting the feeling of being lost in everything around him. The feeling of it all had him spinning, unsure of how to breathe through it.
But you were here now. You were here to remind him that he didn’t need to deal with this alone. You knew just how much pressure he was under, how this season was more critical than years past. And you knew how much work he was putting in to make sure he was nothing but perfect every time he stepped onto that turf.
Which is why you knew all too well how much this hurt.
How much this was killing him, week after week.
"Joe," you whispered softly, gently cupping his face with your hands, your thumb tracing over the sharp lines of his jaw. "Look at me,".
He hesitated, his eyes unfocused, darting everywhere but at you. He tried to push through, but he couldn’t. The panic was still there, tugging at his chest, making it hard to hold on. "Joe," you said again, a little firmer this time, your voice soft but insistent. "Look at me, baby,".
He slowly turned his face back to yours, the fog in his eyes clearing just slightly as he tried to focus on you. Your gaze softened when you saw the struggle in him, the tears pooling, the need for reassurance, the vulnerability that he so rarely showed.
"I’m right here, Joey," you murmured, your hands resting gently on his cheeks now, your thumbs stroking across his skin as you held him in place. "Feel me. I’m here,".
Your words, your touch--it was the lifeline he needed. The grounding presence he could rely on. He let himself lean into you, closing his eyes just for a moment, letting the warmth of your hands on his face pull him back from the edge. He felt the steady pulse of your fingers, your warmth, and the way your breath met his. You were right here. It was going to be okay.
With a shaky exhale, Joe opened his eyes again, this time meeting yours. A soft breath left his lips as his body relaxed, just slightly, the overwhelming need to push everything away slowly fading into the background.
"I’ve got you, baby," you whispered, your voice steady and calm as you pressed your forehead gently to his. "Just breathe with me? I’m right here," you promised again, then placing the softest kiss to his temple. "You’re not alone. Just follow me, okay?".
He nodded weakly, his breath hitching again as he tried to focus.
"Good," you whispered, your voice stable. "Now, in for four. One, two, three, four…,".
You took a slow, measured breath, exaggerating it just enough so that he could follow. Joe’s breath was shaky as he tried to match you, but it was broken, stuttering, still too shallow. "That’s okay," you soothed, your thumb brushing against his cheek. "Try again. In for four,".
This time, he managed a deeper inhale, the air shaky in his lungs, but it was more than he had before. "There you go," you whispered, your voice a constant rock for him. "Now, hold it. One, two, three…,".
You watched his jaw tighten, his whole body bracing as he tried to hold it in, his chest rising and falling with the effort.
"Let it out. Four, three, two, one,".

So 94% of people will abandon their goals before they even get started. Let me repeat that 94%. The odds are stacked against you, but there’s a small group—just 6%—who will do the work, face the grind, and get what they want. What separates them from the rest? They know the truth, and they do it even when they don’t feel like it.
Let me give u truth. If you want to be part of the 6%, you need to change how you think, act, and approach your goals. u need to stop being weak.
ONE take charge or shut up.
Your brain is not your friend. It’s a coward. Your brain wants comfort, safety, and the easy way out. Every time you try to do something hard—like losing weight, hitting the gym, or getting out of debt—your brain will whisper, “You deserve a break. Skip the gym. You’ll start tomorrow. You’re wasting time on things that don’t move the needle. “Check emails. Scroll Instagram. summary: You can’t say no to the twins; Wanda, can’t say no to you. It’s a dynamic that often works in their favor—especially when they desperately want something. The twins know that, if all else fails, they can rely on you to soften Wanda’s resolve, even if they trick you along the way.
warnings: Established relationship, Wanda and Reader are married. Domestic Life. The twins are close to 7/8 years old. Wanda is referred as mama/mom, Y/N is referred as mommy. Otherwise, I think there's none, this is pure fluff

When Wanda first joined the Avengers, she spent much of her time locked away inside the room they designated as hers, finding solace in the company of old books she had never had the chance to read before. Among those books, she stumbled upon a collection of poetry and came across a single phrase, quoted by Emily Dickinson; a phrase which was still written at the beginning of the diary Clint had gifted her for Christmas when the Avengers Tower became her home: "The heart wants what it wants, or else it does not care."
At first, Wanda found the phrase peculiar. How could her heart, which had never known a single day of peace, possibly want anything? Yet, as time passed, she began to understand. It was precisely because her heart had endured so much chaos that it longed for something different.
Stability was a foreign concept to Wanda. Her life had always been beyond her control, and when her powers came into the picture, they only added to the turmoil. But the constant inconsistency made Wanda’s heart want one thing more than anything in the whole world. A family.
She yearned for a family like the one she once had. A family she could come home to at the end of the day, where she could sink into the couch with the weight of the week pressing down on her shoulders - an uncomfortable ache, yet in a place where she felt comfortable. An environment where a television program no one was really watching played softly in the background while someone shared the details of their day. Wanda’s heart craved for care and tenderness, something solid yet gentle—a sanctuary that felt soft, safe, and unshakably real.
After the life she had lived—always running, fighting, and losing—it felt almost unbelievable that Wanda now had everything she had ever wanted cradled in her arms. Hard to believe, I know. But with your head resting against her chest, your body nestled between her legs as you scrolled through your phone, Wanda was certain that she needed nothing more. She closed her eyes  briefly, letting herself savor the peace, the warmth, and the steady rhythm of your breathing.
The sounds from your phone mingled with the lively chatter drifting down from upstairs, where the twins were deeply immersed in a passionate debate about something. It was chaos. But it was her chaos. A chaos that she chose and was looking forward to every single day live in. 
“Hm? What are you doing?” Wanda asked, her arms tightening around you as you started to move. Her voice was soft but carried a hint of reluctance. She tilted her head a little to the side, wanting to know what you were planning. 
You turned to face her, a small smile on your lips. “We forgot to put the plates in the dishwasher,” you replied casually, as if that alone was enough reason to leave Wanda's embrace. To your wife, it definitely wasn't.
Wanda let out a low, drawn-out groan, clearly unenthusiastic about you leaving the comfort of her body pressed against yours. She held you a little tighter, silently protesting your attempt to get up.
“Don’t you need to finish your mission report?” you teased gently, raising an eyebrow at her reaction. Your words made her sigh in mild defeat. She had mentioned earlier that she needed to wrap up her mission report after dinner. It wasn’t a task she enjoyed—especially when it meant sacrificing time with you—but it was something she couldn’t ignore, no matter how much she hated it.
“I do,” she complained, her tone carrying a mix of annoyance and reluctance. Her thumb gently brushed against your cheek. It was obvious she didn’t want to move, but the mission report wasn’t going to complete itself.
Before either of you could say more, a sudden, loud noise from upstairs interrupted the moment. Both your heads turned toward the ceiling in unison. Wanda frowned, her brows knitting together as she stared at the source of the commotion.
“What are they doing up there?” she muttered, her voice tinged with both curiosity and a hint of irritation.
“Probably destroying your things,” you joke, smirking at her. Wanda didn’t share your amusement; instead, she shot you a stern look, her concern evident. That only made you chuckle softly.
“Relax, baby” you murmured, leaning in to press a gentle kiss to her lips, your way of soothing her. With a lazy stretch, you slipped out of her warm embrace, earning a soft groan of protest as you stood. “I’ll get the dishes,” you said with a playful shrug, heading toward the kitchen while Wanda remained on the couch. 
She reached out for you, calling your name with a playful pout on her lips, as if trying to coax you back into her arms. But all she got in response was a teasing kiss blown in the air, followed by a few more chuckles from you. "You're impossible," Wanda muttered, though the corners of her mouth twitched, hinting at a smile she couldn’t quite suppress
A few minutes later, Wanda mirrored your actions with a resigned sigh. With a stretch and a yawn, she slowly pushed herself off the couch, kissing your shoulder once she moved past the kitchen to her home office. She opened the door with another huff, the thought of that mission report weighed heavily on her, already draining her energy before she even began.
As peaceful as the silence was, it didn’t last longer than fifteen minutes—a brief reprieve, but in a house with twins, it felt like a blessing. The twins knew better than to disturb Wanda when her office door was closed, understanding the importance of letting her work in peace. However, today was different. They had something important to ask her, and they were certain that mama wouldn’t mind being interrupted if it was truly important.
Wanda, ever attuned to the sounds around her, heard the soft footsteps and hushed whispers before the three gentle knocks echoed on her office door. She glanced down at the mission report in front of her, then dropped her pen onto the pile of papers near the notebook, her attention fully shifting to the interruption. 
“Yes?” she called out, her voice loud enough to reach her sons, signaling they had permission to enter.
The door creaked open slightly, and two sets of curious eyes peeked through the gap. First, Tommy, with his usual impatience, then Billy, who always seemed a bit more cautious. Their wide eyes and raised eyebrows said it all—they had something to ask. Wanda couldn’t help but smile at the sight of them, her stern demeanor softening instantly. She gestured for them to come in, her smile softening as she watched them shuffle inside, their little hands fidgeting with each other in anticipation.
“Is everything alright?” Wanda asked, her voice filled with the kind of tenderness that only a mother could provide.
The twins, true to their age, began poking and nudging each other, whispering in hushed tones while they stood in front of their mother - who was looking at them with amusement as they continued to argue who would be the one to initiate the conversation. 
“Mom, we have something super important to ask. But… promise you’re going to listen first” Billy tried to negotiate, his little feet shuffled nervously as he spoke. Tommy, by his side, nodded his head in support, his wide-eyed expression practically daring Wanda to disagree.
Wanda arched an eyebrow, a playful smile tugging at the corners of her lips as she watched her boys’ antics. Leaning back in her chair, she murmured a soft, “Okay…” her tone amused yet curious, ready to hear what the twins were planning. 
“So.. we saw something on the internet..”
That wasn’t entirely true. Long before the twins were even born, you and Wanda had agreed, in a heartful parenting talk, that unrestricted internet access wouldn’t be part of your children’s childhood. That being established, the closest the twins got to the “internet” was their tablets - with a few games they begged to have since all their friends were active on and the little maximoffs were being left out- streaming shows, and, on some occasions like weekends, YouTube videos.
Still, Wanda stayed quiet, her expression neutral as she listened to Tommy’s words. Even if he couldn’t possibly get whatever their idea was from the ‘internet; more likely, he was just saying it as an excuse to shift the responsibility off himself and his brother. 
“And we wanted to try.. We wanted to have a night pool party”
Wanda arched an eyebrow, glancing between her sons with growing curiosity. She had a sneaking suspicion about where this was headed but decided to feign ignorance, opting to play along.
"A night pool party..." Wanda repeated slowly, dragging out the words with a hint of amusement as she looked at her sons. Her lips twitched with a barely suppressed smile. "And where would this happen, exactly?"
"Here! Tonight! We've already planned everything," Tommy blurted out, his words tumbling over each other in his excitement.
Billy immediately hissed at his brother, shooting him a sharp glare. That definitely wasn’t part of the carefully rehearsed convincing speech they had agreed on beforehand. 
Wanda frowned, her amusement fading. If it were any other season, the idea might not have bothered her as much. But her sons wanting to swim in the freezing water of the pool outside? That was a firm no. The idea would only serve so they’d catch a cold and be miserable for the rest of the week. Besides, late hours weren’t meant for pool parties—especially not in this weather and not with the age they had. 
There they stood in front of her: matching cozy pajamas, hair lazily brushed back, and fresh-faced from their recent bath. They looked absolutely adorable, and Wanda couldn’t bear the thought of letting their idea ruin that. Spring was just around the corner, and while her children were undeniably the cutest in the world, she had no interest in dealing with two sick little ones—especially when even the smallest sneeze turned them into impossibly needy bundles of chaos.
“No. It's not even hot.” she simply replied, looking back to the now black screen of her notebook. 
“But mom,” the twins protested in unison, their voices carrying the familiar tone of pleading.
Wanda, however, was unmoved. Her decision was final, and she wasn’t about to budge. Crossing her arms, she gave them a firm but gentle look that clearly said, not happening.
“No is no, boys. I’m not going to repeat myself. When it's hotter we can think about it”
The twins left her office with matching little huffs, their quiet complaints trailing behind them. They knew better than to argue further or try to reason with their mother—her decision was final, as always.
But the twins, as stubborn as any Maximoff to ever walk the Earth, weren’t ready to give up just yet. Instead, they exchanged a look, a silent agreement passing between them. They’d just have to come up with another strategy.
It was no secret that, between you and Wanda, you were the parent more likely to entertain the wild ideas your sons came up with. Camping in the backyard? Of course. Nearly a liter of milkshake, even if it was freezing outside? Without a doubt. If it sounded fun, you were usually on board.
You didn’t blame Wanda for seeing things differently. After everything she had endured in her life, control and structure brought her a sense of peace she had rarely known before. Ensuring that the household stayed balanced and comfortable wasn’t just her way of parenting—it was her way of feeling secure.
But that didn’t make her the “boring parent.” If you asked the twins, they’d insist that mama was just as fun as mommy. Sure, she was a little scarier when she got angry, but that only made her the perfect balance to your more carefree approach.
Although they knew better than anyone how to take advantage of your different personalities.
At times like this, when Billy and Tommy had their hearts set on something, they knew they could always count on you to try convincing Wanda to let them have their way.
Sometimes it didn’t work—after all, undermining Wanda’s authority wasn’t part of your parenting playbook, nor was it in hers. But there were moments when a little push for compromise didn’t hurt, especially for something harmless enough to reconsider.
That’s why you felt two little fingers poking each of your shoulders while you scrolled through your phone on the couch. Turning around, you were met with the two most adorable faces you’d ever seen.
“Hi, boys. Already tired of breaking the house upstairs?” you teased, raising an eyebrow.
They responded with cheeky smiles, and without a word, Billy climbed up to sit beside you on the couch, Tommy quickly settling in next to his brother. Their mischievous grins told you they had something up their sleeves.
“Mommy…” Billy trailed off, his voice sweet and direct. “Can we have a swim party tonight?”
His question was much more straightforward than Tommy’s had been when they’d asked Wanda.
You frowned slightly at the idea. The weather wasn’t exactly cold, but it certainly wasn’t warm enough to make a pool party seem like the best choice. You thought about it for a moment. The pool was clean, they’d have fun, and it might tire them out enough for an easy bedtime.
“Hm. Why not?” you said with a shrug, giving in to their request. The twins smiled, happy to finally receive a ‘yes’ to their idea. 
“Can you convince mama then?” Tommy asked eagerly, his excitement practically radiating off him. Billy let out another huff, clearly annoyed by his brother's impatience.
You turned your body to face them, a sigh escaping your lips as you realized you'd fallen for one of their tricks, again
“Don’t turn this on me, boys,” you said, shaking your head. But when they hit you with those puppy-dog eyes, you knew you were in trouble. You sighed again, giving in.
“Okay, I guess I could try to convince her... but if she doesn’t budge, I won’t try again, alright?”
The twins nodded eagerly, their smiles growing wider once they got you to agree with their idea. You ruffled both of their messy hairs playfully before standing up, a smile tugging at your lips as you made your way toward Wanda’s office. The twins’ giggles echoed behind you, but you knew you had your work cut out for you if you were going to convince Wanda.
Just like your sons, you approached Wanda’s office quietly, giving a few light knocks before stepping inside. Wanda, who was about halfway through her report, looked up and smiled at the sight of you. Grateful for the excuse to take a break, she rolled her chair back slightly and patted her lap, inviting you to sit.
You settled sideways on her lap, and Wanda wasted no time wrapping one arm around your waist, pulling you close, sighing with the familiar weight of your body upon hers
“How’s it going?” you asked, your fingers working gently at the tense muscles in her neck. Wanda let out a soft sigh, her smile a blend of contentment and fatigue.
“Annoying, as always,” she replied, her voice laced with a hint of frustration. Her hand drifted to your thigh, her fingers lightly running over the fabric in soothing motions as she added with a small smile, “But I’m halfway through it”.
“You know... the twins mentioned something about a night swim tonight,” you said casually, your tone light but deliberate. “And, apparently, I’ve been tasked with convincing you,” you added playfully, though there was a touch of seriousness behind your words.
“Have you now?” Wanda replied, her voice mirroring your playful tone but laced with even more amusement. She arched an eyebrow knowingly, already piecing together where this conversation was heading.
“I know you already said no, but they’re so excited about it, Wands,” you said, trying to play the kids’ happiness card against her. Wanda rolled her eyes, a small smirk tugging at her lips. She saw right through your game but decided to let you play it anyway.
“And just think about it,” you continued, your hands gently moving along her neck, down to her shoulders, and back up again in soothing motions. “We can turn on the pool LEDs, make it fun. They’ll tire themselves out, and bedtime will be so much easier.”
You laid out the positives, your tone soft but persuasive, waiting patiently for her response.
“Love.. I know. But it’s late and It’s not even hot” She tried to resonate with you, sighing with each argument, knowing she has already lost. 
“They’ll be alright, babe. Let them have this,” you said with a convincing smile.”
Wanda let out a heavy sigh, her expression unamused as she looked at you. “If they catch a cold, you will be the one taking care of them,” she said firmly, pointing a finger at you for emphasis.
But despite her words, you both knew the truth. If that scenario played out, Wanda would be right there, rolling her eyes but still doting on the sick twins, as she always did.
You stayed wrapped in her embrace for a while, both of you savoring the quiet presence of each other. Wanda adjusted you on her lap, shifting just enough to free both hands so she could continue working on her report. You rested your head against her shoulder, your warm breath brushing against her neck, which made her smile softly despite her focus on the task.
The content of the report didn’t matter to you now—you’d already heard all about the mission the day after she got home. So you stayed quiet, simply enjoying the comforting warmth of her body and the peaceful moment you were sharing.
After that,  you and Wanda made your way to the living room, stepping in quietly. The twins were curled up on the couch, watching something on Netflix, completely oblivious to your arrival. Wanda stepped forward, arms crossed, hands on her hips, and her head tilted in mock frustration.
“I can’t believe you both!” she exclaimed, her tone sharp and disapproving.
The twins froze, their eyes widening as they turned to face you both. Wanda’s intimidating stance and your almost-guilty expression made them shrink in their spots, unsure of what they’d done.
“What are you two doing? You should be getting ready for the swim party!” Wanda said, feigning exasperation but failing to hide the faint twitch of a smile.
The twins blinked at her, then at each other, before springing up from the couch in pure joy. “Oh my god, seriously?!” Tommy shouted.
“YESSS!” Billy cheered, both of them jumping around excitedly as they circled their mothers, their energy contagious.
Soon, the house transformed into its familiar brand of chaos. The twins, now dressed in their swimsuits, were already splashing around in the pool, the colorful glow of the LED lights—courtesy of Tony Stark—dancing across the water. Their laughter echoed through the backyard, only occasionally interrupted by shouts of, "It's so cold!" Wanda, unimpressed, responded with a dramatic eye roll, her arms folded across her chest.
Standing at the edge of the pool, Wanda kept her distance, her arms wrapped firmly around her waist as she watched the scene unfold. She made no effort to join the fun, choosing instead to watch with a raised eyebrow and an air of feigned detachment. Yet, the slight tug at the corners of her mouth betrayed her amusement.
Somehow, despite her initial objections, Wanda found a sense of peace in the chaos surrounding her. The sound of Tommy and Billy's laughter brought a soft smile to her face, and she even chuckled at your playful teasing—directed at both her and the twins.
Two days later, the inevitable happened. The twins began sneezing, and you found yourself on the receiving end of a very pointed lecture from Wanda. But, as always, her frustration melted away with a sweet kiss, leaving her shaking her head in exasperated affection.
It was a different kind of chaos—one filled with sniffles, tissues, and extra cuddles—but it was hers. Wanda’s heart had finally found something. Had finally found peace in the beautiful mess of it all.
