i think i've been in sixth form long enough to be able to ask what everyone else on here is taking, so what are the three (or more) a-levels have you all picked? i'll go first! i'm taking english literature, film studies and photography. i was originally doing drama as my third, but let's just say that it didn't work out and leave it at that... (yk i won't) who's next?

a level sociology tips!!
hi!! i did a level sociology (specifically OCR, but these tips should be transferrable!) and got A*, achieving 280/300, so i thought i would share some tips!!
1- summary sheets
your summary sheets will have the sociologist name, along with a brief summary of what they say. you should split this into each topic eg 'gender sociologists' etc.
they are super helpful for aiding revision, having a bank of everything you need to know in one place (i like to do them online), and it being quick to read!
2- mind maps
the mind maps will be for each topic, with the sociologist name and a brief summary of what they say. you should use no notes, and then fill in the ones you forgot/need more detail in a different colour, and repeat over and over until most/all of your mind map can be done without notes!
this is the most helpful thing i did, it is a visual represention of what you know. i would recommend doing one, filling it in, and then coming back to it around 30mins later (doing a different topic's mind map in the mean time) to stick it to long term memory more!
3- the syllabus
read the syllabus. you are going to have been taught so many more sociologists than are actually necessary, just learn what you *have* to so you can focus on what is actually important.
4- practice questions
everyone says this but this is the most helpful!! get your teacher to mark it, so you know how developed a paragraph is, and after a while you will be able to judge how developed your own paragraph is, which is super helpful in exams bc then you know if you need to explain something further!
my teachers were very very strict on what makes a developed paragraph, which meant i definately over-explained in my exam, but it is better to over explain than under explain!!
5- common sense
this may be OCR specific, but globalisation in paper 3 is by far the easiest to get marks on, because there aren't many sociologists for it yet. as long as you explain and use a real life example, you're good. all round though, it is very much common sense.
one of our globalisation q's were 'assess the view that the digital revolution has increased the opportunity to monitor personal info', and i had no idea what to do for sociologists. so i used common sense and gave the example of our data being sold, and also the example of certain apps/websites using encryption
i hope this helps, let me know if you want more/for different subjects!!!

LMAOOOO so i know i keep saying i'll actually be properly back on tumblr but i'm actually getting there now. starting at my former sixth form was a shock to the system in itself and then starting over at yet another sixth form turned my world upside down, but i'm basically settled now. it feels weird that my last physics series post was over two months ago but i'm glad to have finally updated this blog with its next instalment! so happy to finally be getting back <3

People on my college's snapchat story keep taking pictures of me without me knowing so I've written down the usernames of all that have posted that stuff and have created a fake account so I can send them friend requests and find out their timetable and what they look like over half term via general conversation, and then when college is back I'll go looking for them based on what subject they have and take a picture of them without knowing, and then put it on the snapchat story as revenge and as a warning to not fucking mess with me.

HIII, saw that you did classical civ! I'm one of the 3 ppl in the universe that does a level ancient history so we're basically siblings-in-arms XD. how's y12 going and do you have any tips for dealing/coping with bad teachers. best of luck on your end of year mocks/as-levels 💙
Tumblr media
hello!!! i haven't been on socials in two months and i come back to three asks ♡! i think a-level ancient history might be even more underrated than classics, i haven't met a single person who does it (and i know two people who do a-level accounting)! y12 has been mixed for me. the first half was a train wreck, i won't lie, but not even because it was a jump from gcses to a-levels, but rather because my teachers are not the best (ex. chemistry teacher not knowing what exam board we're doing, that same chemistry teacher allowing us to handle concentrated ammonia in an unventilated room with no fume cupboard, biology teacher not knowing viruses are not alive, etc.). it also doesn't help that some of the 6th form policies are draconian asf. i contemplated dropping out.
the second half of y12 has been so much better, i've settled into a schedule that works for me, i've met alot of new amazing people and i just feel way more sure of myself. i'll stop yapping and answer your second question.
SO, dealing with bad teachers. i'd say the number one piece of advice i have is that pre-reading is your best friend! before a lesson, i spend thirty minutes to an hour (either at home or during a free period, but usually at home), reading through the pages that cover the topic in the textbook and making quick shorthand notes and drawing diagrams to help me visualise the information. if we're also doing a required practical, i'll spend an extra 15 minutes reading the method on pmt (physics and maths tutor) and maybe watch a video of someone doing the practical.
even if your teacher doesn't do a good job at explaining the information to you or straight up skips over entire topics (as my teachers do 🧍‍♀️), by pre-reading, you already show up to the lesson with an understanding of the content which can be consolidated either in class or at home. even if your teachers are good, everyone should pre-read if they can find the time.

Sometimes I think I'm not that bad at reading people then I remember how throughout the whole of 6th form I kept trying to get my two closest friends to hang out as a group not realising one friend had a huge crush on the other while the second hated the first friend to the point they started spreading lies about them

in a modern au most ppl would probably only know alm as Celica's boyfriend. like everyone loves Celi but only the ram squad and luthier actually interacts with him when hes not with Celica.

once you learn that as a kid (i mean like 6th grade) that my dream in life was to be on snl my stupid ass humor makes a lot more sense. andy samberg and will forte were the pinnacle of comedy for me.

edmond olivine......... farm sounds edition tiny tsun obsessed with girlfriend 4x his (cup_ ) Size....
#they're friends ur honour. maybe they can even boop snoots. let's give em some privacy#i wanted edmond horse to have a fancy braided ponytail (hah)-esque mane but the ref images all came up stuff like cornrows#and uh. no. no thank u. maybe i should start looking at cartoon horses instead#MASSIVE bunny olivine. bigger than a child. as big as a horse. capable of crushing kuya in his massive fur radius#when i think of hoof buddies edoli... i cannot decide on their sizes#yes horse is typically bigger than cow (at least taller)#but i want olivine to be a giant tank. and edmond to not look like a pubescent gangly mule next to him.#scratches chin#another part of me wanted to make em more . decorated. like design em with jewellery and whatnot#but if they are just animals in a boring ol zoo sanctuary#then they . . look like boring ol animals without all the cool decor?#actually what happens when they transform into their animal forms.#do all their clothes drop on the ground. free loot?#or do the clothes stay the same size and get all messed up and morphed on the new animal form#imagining poor oli transforming while still clothed and his clothes just rip from his Volume#and he's like aw man that's the 6th shirt this month :(#realistically(?) aster would prob provide magical clothing that appropriately shifts with the form or disappears somehow. conveniently.#idk. let's have inconvenient clothes only during the transformation sequences.#for the comedy aspect#edmond allows NO ONE to ride him. NO ONE! except olivine 🥰 eiden indeed gets kicked for even approaching and now he's in a coma#actually in the scenario where edmond is a horse he would probably allow anyone (small) on provided they are civil.#no foxes. no bears. no lions. maybe a hat.#guess i'm gonna have to start tagging this if i'm gonna keep posting about it. unbeliebabvle. it's become an actual tag#zookeeper au#nu carnival edmond#nu carnival olivine

I was filling in a college application form with my mum and one of the pages of the forum was about disabilities and stuff. Because I'm autistic, mum put that on the form but for some reason in the drop down menu, they had listed autism spectrum disorder and asperger's syndrome (some old fashioned term for "autistic people that aren't as weird and are a little more tolerable"). Mum said that it'll be pretty obvious that I'm autistic from the fact that on the personal statement it says that I like computers and tech stuff.
I'm confused, do neurotypicals not like computer stuff? Am I missing something here? Do neurotypical people like anything at all because I'm getting the impression that neurotypical people are very boring and don't like anylising things and rambling on about them for half an hour and only do things 1 particular way and are mind readers. Like do you look at a computer and think "hmmm cool colour" and not "hmmm I wonder what processor this computer has". I probably sound sarcastic to you "normal people" but I'm not I genuinely have no idea how neurotypical people act. Somebody please explain to me how neurotypicals work. Are they all just bland and boring copy and pastes of each other?
Also on the personal statement, it's really hard to answer the question "what made you interested in blablabla college?" without sounding sarcastic when it's your bottom of the barrel option. I ended up saying things like "the stairs are cool" and mum twisted those words into something convincing.
