#60th follower

Just noticed that I have 60 whole followers now 🥹 (ETA, had this in my drafts for a couple of days and now I have more 💀) There was a time when I would write a drabble for my nth follower (I counted by tens, so 10th, 20th, 30th, etc.).

But I can't do that right now with the Miller's Girl fic being written. So uh...how about some haikus? I can write them on the fly and have actually spent days talking in haiku (it drove my ex nuts 🙃).

My thoughts on The Star Beast, as someone who has only seen a handful of Doctor Who episodes but has also been on Tumblr for over a decade (featuring my husband):

Husband thought they were just reusing the name Rose until we started watching and he made the connection

Donna's speech about being a parent was so succinct but also ripped into me

Donna's looking where the furniture isn't (like Crowley and Jimbriel)

Husband called the plot twist, which, fair

Sylvia is incredible: the growl, the powerwalk, the slap

"You've got weapons in your wheelchair" "We all have!" was so fun

I wasn't prepared for there to be a barrier between Donna and The Doctor like him and Rose

The words he used to unleash her memories sounded like the words for Aziraphale's magic trick in Good Omens 2

The twist of Rose having claim to the same power is SO GOOD

There was definitely a lot of dialogue that could have been accomplished in a different way but I've always found Doctor Who to be that level of ridiculous and unserious (in a fond way)

i was initially a bit disappointed that protocol won't be (publicly) released until january, because i had been expecting it to come out earlier, but with the sheer amount of stuff coming out this year, it's probably for the best lol. my brain needs some time to process everything else first before it can shift into full-time magnus mode again.

hmmm. so, I'm starting the end of time in the rewatch... by this point, the themes of "the natural order of things must be followed or Bat Shit will happen" has reached its peak w/ last episode. I had parked analyzing that for later (where does this urge in s1-s4 to portray Time and History as unshakable forces come from? why is the theme of "inevitability" such a focus? and why does it work?)... but ToE janked me and asked me to analyze it now lol bc it comes and opens with this: It is said that in the final days of planet Earth, everyone had bad dreams. To the west of the north of that world, the human race did gather, in the celebration of a pagan rite to banish the cold and the dark. Each and every one of those people had dreamt of the terrible things to come. But they forgot, because they must. They forgot their nightmares of fire and war and insanity. They forgot. Except for one. I remembered this phrase on someone's blog and thought oh, it may have been a reference! and... indeed it is. To this poem from victorian era poet matthew arnold...

which I think clarifies some stuff they were going for a bit, with this "time can be (can't be) rewritten" theme, and also why donna's seemingly "pointless" memory erasure *had* to happen... because there's a recurring theme in s1-s4 that, to allow anything to happen in the future, things have to be scarified in the past. (for the human race to go to the stars A Lot of experimental crews had to die) etc... and, this works in tandem with the "everything has its time and everything ends" theme. for new life to be born, there has to be death, maybe it's just me projecting my slight taoism philosophizing into it but... it feels like doctor who's s1-s4 messaging around death + the passing of time seems to be almost ... a metaphysical law it is dictating: the dark things in our lives have to happen. we will fail to reach our potential (in the case of donna), we will lose people, we will regret things... but we can't undo what has been done or try to go against that "natural flow" of things, or else we will go human the equivalent of timelordvictorious / batshit insane lol

im also gonna take this moment to give an update on said fanfic below the cut

So! The fanfic version of Entrails of the Animals has been taken down, which was a very hard decision to make bc goddamn were those 60k words a labor of love several years in the making.

But I'm an aspiring author and Kirsen as a character has always been very near and dear to my heart- I decided I wanted the first story I get published to be hers. So, I took everything that I could salvage of her backstory and personality and I've adapted it into the worldbuilding for the universe all of my original stories take place in.

Then, most amazingly of all, last year I sat down and I wrote her story. All 99k words of it. The first draft of OGverse "Entrails of the Animals" has been finished. In fact, I'm currently making some revisions on draft number 4 of EOTA!

I took down everything I could of the fanfic version of EOTA/Kirsen, so that there would hopefully be no confusion when I do eventually get Kirsen's story published. Right now I'm working with the idea of EOTA still being the title- but we'll see. It was super tough to do- Skyrim!Kirsen will always have her own little niche in my heart. I was incredibly sad that the people who were so kind as to follow my story and comment on every chapter, would not get to see the resolution to the story I was trying to tell.

But at the end of the day this, Kirsen's story, is something that I want to tell more than anything in the world and I want to do so in a way that is completely original. And ya know, hopefully just as magical and interesting as the old version lmao.

My intention is to advertise the book across my blogs once it is published, so maybe someday soon those of y'all that have stuck around will get to see the best version of Kirsen I've created yet <3
