RTX 4090 in Asus ROG Strix SCAR 18 laptop
The article was created in cooperation with PCTuning.cz magazine. Two years ago, Nvidia released a mobile version of the GeForce RTX 3080, followed by the RTX 3080 Ti a year later, and this year it was replaced by the GeForce RTX 4080. It has always been the best you can find in a laptop. However, we will not talk about the 1980s series here. The green team came up with the ultimate high-end…

Pairing: Modern!Bucky Barnes x Reader
Summary: Weddings bring people together. It brought Bucky back to you. Problem is, you don’t want to see him.
Requested by @anjali750 !! Thank you so much for requesting and I hope that you like it!! I feel like I could’ve made this better but I didn’t want it to be too long.
W/C: ~4080
Prompt: “I was doing fine, really, and then you waltz back in like you didn’t break my heart.”
Tumblr media
It’s funny how the little things about a person, things you once adored, turn into the things you now despise.
When Bucky Barnes sauntered into the room, fashionably dressed in his absolute best, it was the little things about him that made you hate him.
The smooth swipe of his fingers through his hair. The way his words danced with a chuckle when someone teased him. How his eyes twinkled under the light despite their cool visage.
The little things you once loved about him were now something you looked on with contempt.
How dare he show himself after so long?
You had to admit. It wasn't really his fault. He was brought here into this room just as you were.
In celebration of the engagement of the future Mr. and Mrs. Wilson.
---
"I swear you're out to get me," you complained, slouching into the rattan chair in Natasha's apartment. "You hate me, don't you?"
"I do not hate you," Natasha sighed, flipping through a magazine of wedding venues. "I wouldn't make you maid of honor at my wedding if I hated you."
"But you just had to pick him, didn't you?" You sat straight up.
"It's not my choice to make, Y/N," she replied, eyes still scanning her magazine. "It's Sam's and he chose Bucky. There's nothing I can do about that."
“What about Steve?” you counter, “he exists!”
“Steve just had a baby,” Nat retorted, turning the page. “Well not Steve but Sharon. Sam would’ve asked him but he felt like Steve’s busy with the baby. Bucky is his best friend too y’know.”
“Likely story,” you grunt, turning your head away from her. “You’re all scheming against me.”
“Oh for God’s sake, Y/N!” Nat drops the magazine onto her lap. “Would you stop being so cynical? Not everyone is out to get you,” she states. “Who knows? Maybe you’ll actually enjoy it..”
“Aha!” you point an accusatory finger at her. “I see what you’re trying to do here!”
Nat groans audibly. “What? What am I trying to do?” she questions irritatedly.
“You’re trying to get us both back together!” you exclaim. “Too bad sis! It ain’t gonna happen!”
“You’ve gone mad,” she sighs, shaking her head. Nat stands up and walks around the coffee table and towards the hall. “Believe what you want. You’re my maid of honor. He’s the best man. Deal with it.”
You grumble, sinking deeper into your chair. “If I see his ass anywhere near me, I’m drop kicking him,” you stated.
“You will do no such thing!”
---
Bucky tries his best to keep his focus on the conversation at hand, but his thoughts keep wandering, taking his eyes along with them to the opposite end of the room.
You stood by the bar with a glass of alcohol as your only companion. Your form was turned slightly away from him, leaving the curve of bare back in perfect view for him to see.
He watches shamelessly, his eyes drink you in, despite the fact that he thinks he’s ogling you—which he is.
He shouldn’t be. He didn’t deserve to.
But could he blame himself?
You look gorgeous.
Your dress is a heavenly creamy off white, bejeweled with gold embroidery around the chest and hips. His eyes follow the long slit that runs along the side of your leg, trailing along the path of skin likened to smooth caramel, until cold blue clashes with warm hazel.
Crap.
You freeze when your eyes lock with his. He’s halfway across the room and you still managed to gain his attention. You avert your gaze and place your glass on the counter gently before disappearing into the crowd.
Bucky sulks when he sees you leave.
You hate him.
He knows that.
But even so, he wishes he’d get a chance to make it alright.
“Nat,” you tap on her shoulder from behind.
The redhead turns from the guest she’s speaking with to find you agitated. Red cheeked and lip biting.
“Everything alright?”
“Uh, I think I’m going to call it a night,” you reply.
“Already?” Nat asks. You nodded quickly. “Is this about—”
“Don’t,” you stop her. “Just let me go?” you ask softly.
“Fine,” she sighs with a frown. She gives you a hug goodbye. “I’ll call you later, alright?”
You nodded with a smile and made your way out the door. You fumble with your clutch to take out your keys. Not watching where you were going, you bump into someone.
“Oh, I’m sorry—” you pause, when your eyes meet his again.
“Right now would be a good time for that dropkick,” The Jiminy Cricket in your head spoke.
“Hey, Y/N,” he smiles, voice lilting with his words like he’s happy to see you.
“Oh, uh, hi, Bucky,” you stutter nervously.
“How have you been?” he asks.
No, don’t start a conversation with me.
“I’ve been good,” you tuck a strand of hair behind your ear, diverting your gaze to the right. You always did when you were nervous. “You?”
“Great,” he replies, “it’s good to be back home.”
Your eyes finally fall on him. He’s still the same old Bucky. That same sweet smile. The familiar scent of brisk cologne. Still the prettiest blue eyes you’ve ever seen.
Stop staring, dumbass.
“It’s been a while?” he breaks the awkward silence.
Yeah, four years is quite a while.
“Yeah, it has been,” you smiled softly, “back for the wedding?”
Of course, he’s back for the wedding, moron. Stop acting so stupid.
“No, for good.”
What? No. No. No. No.
“Wow! Really?” you asked with a nervous chuckle. “Finally got bored of travelling?” you blurted with a sharp twinge.
That wasn’t supposed to come out the way it did.
“Uh, yeah,” he chuckles in reply. “I guess I did." There's a bit of disappointment in his eyes.
Good.
"You’re leaving?”
“Yeah, I’m going home,” you nodded.
"Here, let me–"
"No, it's fine," you interrupted. "I can walk by myself," you gave him an awkward smile, taking a few steps backward. "Besides I think Steve was looking for you."
"Oh," he whispers disappointed. "I'll go see him then. It was nice seeing you again," he smiles warmly while turning.
Shut the fuck up.
"Good night," he wishes.
"Yeah, you too," you said, before quickly turning and dashing out the door.
Bucky sighs deeply. He knew you were lying.
You always played with a strand of your hair when you lied.
A little thing you thought he had forgotten.
Tumblr media
Months had passed since the engagement and life was thrown back into its normal routine.
The awkward meeting with Bucky became one of those horrible memories that came up at three in the morning when sleep wouldn’t come. But other than that, he didn’t phase your thoughts.
Four years ago, you loved Bucky. Enough for you to say you wanted to spend the rest of your life with him.
But Bucky had other plans. He wanted to see the world. Places you’ve only seen on screensavers. He was ambitious and adventurous. An extrovert with a passion for the unknown. You were the opposite. An introvert cooped up in her room writing those very adventures he dreamed of.
So when he got the chance to travel the world as a photographer, you didn’t stop him. You knew just how much it meant to him. It was his dream. But it hurt how his one dream never had a picture of you in it.
He never asked if you wanted to come with him. Instead he wanted to break it off.
It became clear to you that the three years you spent together meant nothing to him. Three years worth of fights and reconciliation, of understanding and appreciation, of promises professed as whispers underneath a glassed moonlit sky, meant nothing to him.
You learned the minute he walked out the door, ticket in one hand and suitcase in the other, that sometimes a love given in full was not one fully returned.
It took time, but you got over him. With tubs of ice cream and supportive friends, you made it through and came out stronger than ever. You earned yourself a great book deal with a well-known publisher, and were even lauded as a rising star in literary circles across the nation. You were set on a path to succeed, to live the life you dreamed for yourself. And there was no sight of Bucky Barnes in that dream at all.
Until you stepped foot onto the ancient cobblestone paths of the island of Crete. The shore was a graceful arc of sand, glittering under the July sun, a perfect place for a placid ocean to lap. The waves rolled in a soothing sound, the salty waters a brief flurry of sand.
The warm caress of an afternoon breeze from the briny waves of the Aegean Sea felt like heaven against your skin. Even with the sun burning onto the bare skin not hidden by your sundress, you can’t help but absorb the serenity that radiates from the shore of Elafonisi.
“Y/N!” Nat’s voice pierces through the sweet silence as her head sticks out of the car. Red hair flowing in the wind wildly just like the hand that’s waving to you.
You smile sheepishly, waving at her from your spot in front of the airport. She jumps out of the car the minute it stops and hugs you. “You made it!” she exclaims.
“Of course I’d make it,” you reply with a laugh. “Why wouldn’t I?”
“Nat started freaking out when you said your flight got delayed,” Sam replied, walking up to you and giving you a hug.
“I was not!” she retorts. “I was completely calm.”
“You and calm are two things that could never be put together,” a voice comes from behind and it makes you want to scream. Bucky walks up to the crowd of three and Nat hits him on the shoulder, earning a chuckle from him.
“Hey, Y/N,” he greets with a smile.
“Hi, Bucky,” your voice is plain.
“Had a nice flight?”
“Yeah.”
You glare at Natasha but she pretends as if you aren’t.
“Here let me take your bags,” Bucky offers, reaching forward.
“No, that’s fine,” you replied, but he doesn’t have it and takes them anyway.
“Hey, Sammy, unlock the trunk for me, will ya?” Bucky asks, walking to the back of the car.
Sam nods, walking around to him.
You take Nat’s hand by the wrist and squeeze tightly, making her look directly at you.
“Why did you bring him?” you whisper harshly.
“He wanted to come,” she replies in the same manner. “I couldn’t say no.”
“You could have.”
“Why don’t you give the guy a chance?”
“How about no?”
Nat rolls her eyes. “Do what you want,” she walks away, you pull her back.
“You’re sitting in the back with me,” you ordered.
“You have got to be kidding me,” she groans, placing her hand on her hip.
“Do I look like I am?”
She yanks her hand from yours. “Fine,” she sighs, opening the door to the car.
---
Bucky looks at you from the corner of his eye. You leaned against the car door, arm propped up to hold your chin, sun hat resting on your lap. As you watched the passing scenery, the wind from the opened window blew through your hair.
It’s a bit shorter this time.
It looks nice.
Your lips are pulled down into a disgruntled expression as Nat rambles on about the wedding schedule.
You’re not listening, completely submerged into your thoughts.
Bucky chuckles quietly to himself.
Always the daydreamer.
“Y/N, are you even listening?” Natasha asks.
“Hmm?” you turn towards her.
“You’ve bored her to death, Nat,” Bucky replies for you, turning his back so he could get a real look at you. “She likes adventure novels.”
“Actually I was listening,” you retorted sharply. “She said we have practice at the church at ten tomorrow. Don’t be late, Barnes.” You turn back to your window gazing, leaving the three completely silent.
Sam snorts, unable to keep his amusement inside. Bucky slaps him on the arm then turns back into his seat with a loud thud. A smirk creeps its way onto your face.

“Good Morning, Y/N,” Bucky greets cheerfully.
Suddenly, your orange juice tastes sour in your mouth. You turn towards him with a horribly forced, sweet smile.
“Good Morning, Bucky.”
“It’s 9:58,” he points to his watch, “so that means I’m not late.”
You look at him blankly, tired of hiding your distaste of him. “Congratulations, I could honestly care less.”
“You should care,” he points with a mock frown like he’s teasing you.
I’m about to start swinging.
“Where there’s no you, there’s no me. Where there’s no me, there’s no you.”
How fucking poetic.
“We’re an integral part of this wedding, L/N,” he chuckles.
“I see your horrible sense of humor hasn’t changed,” you bite.
“And you still have that snarky twist to yours,” he retorts, leaning against the wall of the church hall, eyes straight on you.
Stop admiring her, dumbass.
You cross your arms and divert your gaze from him as if you’re ashamed.
“I don’t mean it in a bad way,” he quickly corrects himself, standing straight. “It’s a good thing, I’ve missed it,” he confesses.
Your head whips towards him, shocked eyes meeting his. A scarlet red scatters on your cheeks the same way they do on his.
The tips of his ears burn the brightest hue of red that only happened when he was extremely nervous or embarrassed.
A little piece of information your brain cared to remember.
“Uhm, uh, what I meant was—” he starts to stutter.
You look away again, not wanting to hear another word. You catch Yelena walking by with a few baskets of decorations in her hands. You quickly walk towards her, leaving Bucky in the dust.
“Here, Yelena, let me help you,” you place your hands on the baskets she was holding.
“Oh, it’s okay, Y/N, I can handle—”
“No,” you tug on the basket. “please let me help,” you strained through gritted teeth. Yelena raises a brow and looks over your shoulder to see an awkwardly placed Bucky standing behind you.
“Oh! Yes, please help me!” she yells handing you a basket. “These are oh so heavy!” she laughs.
Taking the basket from her, you follow here out of the hall and into the sanctuary.
All Bucky wishes is that you’d look back at him one time. Just once.
But why would you?
He never turned back when he left. Not even once.
---
“The Best Man and the Maid of Honor will come out together,” the coordinator stated.
You grumble quietly, giving a glance in Bucky’s direction. He catches you looking and gives you a wink paired with a smile. You turn away quickly and keep your eyes strictly on the coordinator as she verbally listed the instructions of the procession.
After a painstaking thirty minutes of instructions and tips, the wedding party lined up in order of entrance. Bucky and you were placed right before the flower girl and the ring bearer and after the bridesmaids and groomsmen. Allowing Bucky to make trivial conversation. You were literally linked with him with your arm hooked in his.
He rambles on about something stupid. Or at least you think it’s something stupid. You’re not really listening so you couldn’t really tell.
“You know I’ve read your book,” he states.
“What?”
“There you go daydreaming again,” he shakes his head with a chuckle, taking a step forward.
You huff at him. “I was not.”
“You haven’t listened to a word I’ve said in the past ten minutes.”
“Not my fault you’re boring,” you hurl at him, taking another step forward, coming closer to your turn.
Bucky frowns playfully. “Ouch, so mean,” he whines.
The couple in front of you begins to walk down the aisle, leaving Bucky and you at the doors.
“Good luck, guys!” Nat cheers from the back.
You turn with the biggest scowl on your face which she received with a wide smile and thumbs up.
The two of you get the signal to walk and proceed with even steps.
“I said that I read your book,” Bucky recalls.
You turn your head to look up at him. “You—you did?” you stuttered.
He nodded with a smile. “Yeah, I got stuck at the airport in Berlin cause of a delay and saw your book in the window of a bookstore, so I bought it. I read it in one sitting.”
Your heart beats wildly and palms grow wet. “Um thank you,” you whisper sheepishly.
“No, thank you,” he chuckles. “I enjoyed it very much. You did an amazing job.”
You smile small in appreciation of his words, but quickly harden your heart. “You don’t have to be so nice,” you reply, letting go of his arm just as you reach the end of the aisle.
Bucky couldn’t tell what made chills run down his spine. The cold tone of your voice or the way you let go of him so easily.
Tumblr media
“Who’s the cutest baby in the world?” Steve cooes. The little girl in his hands giggles at her father’s words. “You are! You’re the cutest baby in the world. Ah, look at those eyes,” he fawns, “just as pretty as mama’s.”
Bucky groans loudly, slouching into the chair in the hotel room.
“What’s with you?” Steve diverts his attention to Bucky.
“Nothing,” he mumbles.
“It’s Y/N, isn’t it?” he drops it on him like a bomb.
An embarrassingly red blush creeps on his cheeks. “I never said that!”
“I don’t know who you’re trying to fool, but it’s not working,” Steve retorts, bouncing the baby on his knee.
“I just—I don’t know why she hates me,” Bucky says.
Steve gives him a look as if he’s in The Office. “You don’t know why she hates you?” he asks incredulously.
“No,” he shakes his head. “I know why she hates me,” he sighs. “I just don’t know how to make it up to her. I want to fix things, but what’s the point if she won’t even give me a chance to speak two words to her.”
Steve covers his little girl’s ears. “How about you stop being a whiny bitch and stop beating around the bush? Stop the whole nice guy act and just come clean to her. Give her the raw feelings and not this flowery, teasing bullshit you’ve got going on. You’re a fucking adult for crying out loud. Start acting like one.”
Bucky opens his mouth to speak, but he doesn’t have any words. Steve had a point, but he didn’t have to say it the way he did.
“I’m telling Sharon you said that in front of Sarah.”
“You tell her anything and you’re gonna be walking down the aisle with a missing tooth.”
Tumblr media
Elafonisi was just as beautiful at night as it was in the day. The waters danced underneath the moonlight. The stars sparkled in the sky. You marvelled in the simplicity of the beach. No towering skyscrapers and bustling crowds. No flashing screens and odd smells.
It’s like paradise.
A cool ocean breeze brushes against your skin like kisses from the divine. The air was thick with a cacophony of aroma. Pungents smells of rosemary, thyme, and lemon trees mix with the faint smell of slowly roasted meat coming from inside the hotel.
It’s been a long day of practice and preparation. You’ve been around way too many people than you normally enjoyed and decided to take a break from it all. And you couldn’t find a better place than being hidden on the canopied balcony that jutted out of the building.
Peace and quiet. Just the way you liked it.
“I thought I’d find you out here.” Bucky approaches you on the balcony.
Of fucking course.
“I wish you didn’t,” you murmured.
“What was that?”
“Nothing.”
Bucky comes to stand next to you, he rests his forearms on the stone fence. “It’s nice here,” he says, “I came here about two years ago, but it feels like the first. Crete is a beauty.”
“I’ve seen the pictures.”
“Hmm?”
“The pictures you took,” you explained. “I’ve seen them all.”
Bucky’s heart flips at your words. A lazy smile tugs at his lips as he turns towards you. “Have you been stalking my Instagram?”
“No! Nat showed me.” you yell at him, hoping he couldn’t see the blush on your cheeks. Anger rushes through your veins. “You’re so full of yourself,” you snarl, turning on your heel you walk away only for him to catch you by the wrist.
“Y/N, I was just joking,” he said, pulling you closer.
You tug your arm out of his grasp. “Stop joking with me,” you hiss. “Stop pretending to be my friend. Stop acting like everything’s completely fine between us when it’s not!”
“Y/N, let me explain,” he pleads.
“No,” you deny. “I don’t want your explanation. It’s too late for that now. I’ve spent four years without a good one and I don’t need one now. I was doing fine, really, and then you waltz back in like you didn’t break my heart,” you choke out.
Tears brim at the corner of your eyes, threatening to fall if you said another word. You’re not going to cry in front of him. You didn’t back then and you sure as hell weren’t going to now.
“Just please do me a favor and leave me alone?” you ask quietly.
“I can’t,” he shakes his head. “I can’t leave you alone. I did that once before and it was the biggest mistake of my life,” he confesses. “I was young. I was foolish and I thought what I wanted was out there somewhere but in reality it was always right next to me. It was always just you.”
His eyes tell the truth and that was what truly angered you. Even after four years, he still had a way of breaking through your hard exterior.
“Then why didn’t you come back?” you asked, voice straining, eyes holding back the tears.
Bucky looks down at his feet. The crash of the ocean waves in distance calms him, letting the feelings he harbored for so many years flow out of his mouth.
“Because I was ashamed. Because I felt like you wouldn’t want me back after how much I’ve hurt you,” he looks up nervously.
“When I saw you at the engagement party I knew I had to at least try to get you back,” he says, hoarsely.  “You know I suck at confrontation, it freaks me out,” he chuckles awkwardly, keeping his own tears at bay. He swallows deep then sniffles. “But I’m here now and all I’m asking for is one chance? One chance to make it alright?”
“I can’t,” you shake your head and it makes his heart fall. “I don’t think I’m ready.”
“We don’t have to start where we left off,” he quickly replies, pleading for his case. “We can start over if that’s what you want. We can take it slow.”
You look at him, quietly thinking about his proposition. He’s willing to fix things. Even if it meant starting over from scratch so he could rebuild the foundation of trust he had foolishly destroyed. He’s willing to put in the extra hours. So who were you to say no?
You’d be lying if you said you didn’t think about being with him again.
Bucky was still the one you wanted to spend your life with. He always was and always will be.
“Baby steps?” you whisper.
Bucky’s lips curve into a half smile. A small chuckle escapes them. “Yeah, anything you want sweetheart.”
Your lips follow his. “I want to start again.”
Bucky smiles, brighter than the moon. He takes your hand gently in his and kisses the back of it with a nod.
It was the little things about him. The little things you wanted to believe you hated. The feel of his lips against your skin. The warmth in his eyes that he only showed you.
The little things you once loved about him and continued to, even after so long, gave you the surety that a love given in full can be given fully in return. Sometimes it just takes a little time.

P-MINUS - 2019
Tumblr media
Where are you from? And what’s your first memories linked to hip hop?
I’ve lived all over - Belgium, Germany, Ohio, Missouri, the Virgin Islands, San Francisco, and now Los Angeles.  But I spent the most years, including high school and college, in Missouri, so I feel like that’s where “I’m from.”  I first remember hearing hip hop while living on St. Thomas (in the Virgin Islands) and the three songs that started me on this journey were “I Need Love,” by LL Cool J, “You Be Illin’” by Run-DMC and “Fight For Your Right To Party” by the Beastie Boys.  I must have heard them on the radio, so that would have been 1987 - the year of my hip hop birth.  In 1988, I moved back to Missouri and a neighbor of mine had a ton of rap tapes so I’d borrow his tapes all the time or listen to them in his car on the drive to school.  I believe that the first tape I ever bought was Schooly D’s “Smoke Some Kill” (1988).
What got you started with Atak Distribution, how and when did it begin?
Fast forward to 1994 - I had graduated from college, where I had been the Hip Hop Director at the school’s radio station, and moved to San Francisco where I began an internship at Gavin, a music magazine that curated Top 40 lists for radio programmers.  Somehow through that job, I met DJ Stef (editor of the Vinyl Exchange) and started writing record reviews for her.  And on one fateful day, I received a copy of Sacred Hoop’s “Demo” tape for review and I thought it was the freshest thing in the world and in 1996 I officially became an underground hip hop junkie.
Tumblr media
Were you a hardcore music collector before you started Atak?
Before Atak, I had a decent cd and record collection, full of ‘90s “golden era” major label releases, but hardly any tapes and barely anything considered “indie” or “underground.”  Back then I wasn’t a collector, just a music fan, because all this incredible music was just sitting at the record stores for $12.99.  I shopped a lot at Amoeba and Rasputin’s and a few other smaller stores in the Bay area, plus a few record labels and artists would send me promos for review.
How did you choose what would be in your catalog? How did you make contacts with the artists?
Starting with Sacred Hoop, I was certain that this amazing group wasn’t getting the exposure it deserved, so the seeds of Atak were first planted.  I then started soliciting for more submissions through the Vinyl Exchange and some other Bay area rap magazines, such as 4080.  I think that the Hoop started spreading the word, too, because I soon started getting tapes from the likes of FTA, Megabusive, San Francisco Street Music, Jedi Knights Circle, 99th Demention and others from the South Bay and SF.  Somewhere in there, I met up with the Mystic Journeymen, bought some tapes from them, and was eventually exposed to Berkeley and Oakland artists such as the Living Legends, Hobo Junction, Zion-I and Illa Dapted.  If I liked your tape, it would get in the Atak catalog.  The first printed mail-order catalog had 12 tapes in it and the very first tape sold was Mystik Journeymen’s “Escape Forever” on August 10th, 1996.
Tumblr media
Was the mail-order a full time job or did you have other occupations (studies, other job?)?
During the first few years I had several jobs: the Gavin internship became a paid job, I worked at a grocery store and then later at a vegetarian cafe.  Eventually, since my rent was cheap and I was starting to sell more music, I was able to do Atak full-time.  All the storage and shipping was done out of my bedroom.
Did you have many overseas/international customers and what role did that play in the business?
It looks like I started getting my first international orders (from Finland!) in 1997.  I don’t know how they found out about Atak, but they were serious fans of West Coast underground so word spreads fast amongst those folks.  Fans in Finland, Australia, Canada and Japan were my strongest supporters, with a few folks in France and Germany, too.  This was before I started selling online, so these folks were trusting me with their cash and money orders and I will be forever indebted to them.  Through these customers, I was exposed to international hip hop and eventually started selling music from the likes of Ceebrolistics, the Sebutones, mcenroe, Mary Joy Recordings, Muphin and the Hilltop Hoods.
What was the « peak » year in terms of sales and in terms of quality of music?
After a year or so of mailing out catalogs and setting up tables of merchandise at shows, Atak finally got online with the help of one of my earliest customers, Todd (aka Vic aka Celph Titled), who was extremely active on hip hop message boards, and he really helped spread the word around the U.S. and the world, so Atak started getting more non-Bay area music in the catalog and I started getting  orders from everywhere.  I think that the music quality was strong start to finish.  I was listening to everything before I put it in the catalog, and if it wasn’t dope, it didn’t get in.
Tumblr media
Did you ever wanted to make Atak a bigger thing, like UGHH or such?
There was a time in which I would have loved for Atak to get really big, because it was all so much fun - all the shows, meeting the artists, hearing a ton of new music, even the packing and shipping was fun for me.  But in hindsight, it is clear that I was better at being a huge fan of the music rather than being a savvy businessperson.  At the point in which digital music started taking off, I didn’t have the technical knowhow to adjust accordingly, and a big part of me still simply loved selling physical copies.  As a fan, I didn’t want everything to go digital, but as a businessperson I should have dived in headfirst to keep up with the other big websites.  I admired what the other sites were doing, and what friends like Shane (aka Kegs) was doing with Below the Surface - putting out records, putting on shows, opening a brick-and-mortar storefront.  But part of me liked keeping things small and simple, but that clearly pushed me into smaller and more obscure corner of the online hip hop biz and eventually bumped me out of it altogether.
You did some cd-r reissues as well as a couple of mix-cds. Any temptation of launching a proper record label (as in: « new release, no reissue ») at some point?
I’d been wanting FOREVER to start a label and put out records!  I made a feeble attempt to put out an Atak compilation in the late ‘90s, full of all the folks that were in my catalog at the time.  I was able to get maybe 7-10 crews over to my house one night to talk about it, but since I had no idea how to really put it all together, I ended up getting one original song, from Nitrous Ox, out of that great big idea.  More recently, I’ve been hoping to help folks put out releases but nothing has materialized just yet.  Nowadays almost everyone is really good at getting this stuff done themselves, so I’m happy that they are taking control of their destinies and getting their music out to the world.
Tumblr media
Can you give us your personal Top 5 favorites in your sale catalog? Also one that you think was dope and didn’t have the recognition it deserved?
In no particular order, I’ll list a few of my favorites, but I’m obligated to mention Sacred Hoop’s “Demo” (aka “Sacred Hoop” aka “Runny Poop”) first since that tape inspired everything.  I was also thrilled to be able to pick up indie music from the Hieroglyphics (“Hiero Oldies”)and Saafir (Hobo Junction’s “Limited Edition Compilation”) since I was such a fan of their major label stuff.  I really liked Red Tide’s “Rogue MCs” tape.  Disflex6’s self-titled debut (aka “1984”) was great.  The Kracken’s “Abstract & Cognac” left me wanting much more.  The Sebutones’ “50/50 Where It Counts” blew my mind!  Early stuff Dose One and Why? showed me that hip hop had no boundaries.  This is an extremely abbreviated favorites list - as I look back through my old catalogs, I realize that I loved them all.  It was all so new and so fresh and I think these artists all deserved more recognition than they got.  I’m glad that I could help expose them a bit but I wish I could have done a lot more.
Did you developed friendship with artists/crews over those years and do you have interesting stories/ anecdotes linked to that?
My anecdotal memory is terrible so I’ve sadly forgotten a ton of great stories, fantastic show moments and hilarious conversations.  Looking back, I should have kept a journal or taken a million photographs, because we all had so much fun and did so much back then.  But, luckily for me, I’ve been able to keep in touch with a few of my very favorite people, emcees Luke Sick (Sacred Hoop/Grand Invincible) and Roughneck Jihad (Third Sight), and producer Deeskee (who has probably produced more songs in the Atak catalog than anyone else).  And luckily for everyone else, all three of these guys are still making incredible music, more than 20 years after giving me tapes to review.  A few weeks ago I got to hang out with The Grouch for a bit and he gave me a copy of his “F...the Dumb” double vinyl, 20 years after I first sold that tape in the catalog.
Tumblr media
Why (and when) did you stopped Atak?
Atak started to slow down around 2004.  I had recently moved from the Bay area down to Los Angeles, gotten married, bought a house, and started another job that was able to pay the bills more reliably.  I was still getting orders and submissions from new artists, but wasn’t able to give Atak the focus it required to really push new artists and releases.  I didn’t have time to go to many shows anymore, and all my hip hop buddies were still up in the Bay.  I had ambitions to reboot the website, but then my web host got hacked and I had to shut down the site...and then I never got it back online.  I eventually moved my inventory onto some other online platforms and kept selling, but for the most part, Atak was done.  I’d like to take this opportunity to apologize to the artists who submitted music around this time.  I was getting some great music but just didn’t have juice to do anything with it.
Any thoughts on the evolution of hip hop? What about the the come back of the cassette? Is it possible that Atak would make a comeback in the future, in some form or another?
Tough question, because I don’t keep up with much truly “underground” music anymore, so I really hope that there are a ton of dope kids putting out dope music out there, and I’m sure there are plenty of them.  I love 90’s hip hop so much, both major label and my Atak stuff, that that is what I still listen to the most, digging in my records, tapes and cds or bumping music in my car.  I agree with most true heads that a lot of today’s hip hop is junk, and though I’m happy to see rappers get big and make money, I’d much rather that it be good, original and compelling hip hop.  I’m stoked to see everyone buying and releasing tapes again, because of my love for the physical copy (though I agree that a free or cheap digital download is an essential part of that sale).  And in regards to Atak’s great big comeback, I don’t think it will happen - it would require too much time and energy to do it right.  But if I can still help out a few people, promote a few records, maybe even sell a few for my old pals, I’m happy to contribute.
Tumblr media
A specific question from the homie Age: do you still want to reissue that Hi-State album?
I bugged my man Mr. E about that tape FOREVER and at least he finally put it up on Bandcamp (https://eightarrow.bandcamp.com/album/hi-state-project-demos-n-shit-vol-1) and we chatted about putting out a cassette reissue.  I’m sure he wouldn’t have much trouble selling a short run of 100 tapes, so I’ll remind him about it.  But I’m happy that fans can at least take a listen or buy it online.
What do you think was the most special in the 90's underground scene, and do you believe something like that would ever happen again?
I’ve never really tried to analyze that scene, but in retrospect, I bet that a lot of these emcees, producers and deejays were inspired by all the incredible major label releases that kept pouring out in that decade.  So much quality hip hop was coming out and it was easy to see on “Yo! MTV Raps” and BET and the good stuff was even getting on the radio!  It was everywhere and it was so damn good!  I’m sure that these kids just wanted to be a part of that magical time, and a lot of the underground music was super fresh, too, because it wasn’t easy to make beats and put out cds - they had to commit to it and create a whole scene and they had to be dope to do it.  Granted, I’m a old nostalgic rap dude now, but I don’t think the major or the underground scene will ever be that saturated with fantastically innovative, powerful, creative and inspired hip hop.  Nowadays there isn’t enough inspiration in the scene for there to be an onslaught of great new hip hop like there was for me back in the days.  There will always be a lucky few who can inspire themselves to be original and make great music, and hopefully these kids will get a chance to be heard.

Ice Cream Maker
Tumblr media
Making hand crafted frozen yogurt is a pleasant encounter for grown-ups just as children and todays current frozen yogurt making machines are a lot simpler to use than producers from even 10 years back. There are 2 principle highlights you ought to consider when purchasing a frozen yogurt producer - accommodation and size. The regular frozen yogurt producer accompanies bowls you refreeze and makes around 1 to 2 quarts of frozen yogurt. Frozen yogurt creators with refreezing bowls are incredibly helpful and conservative to utilize. There is no stone salt or ice to oversee and clients say the key to making extraordinary frozen yogurt with refrozen bowls is to freeze the dishes for at any rate a couple of days between clumps. The colder your cooler is the better the outcomes are for the frozen yogurt. The more costly kinds of frozen yogurt producers are independent creators with an implicit freezing unit. ]
You should simply include the blend and let them stir. Children will in general be less observing with regards to flavors and quality, so go with the less expensive models if the frozen yogurt will be for youngsters. See underneath for more data and the best sellers.Buying Guide - In request to pick the best frozen yogurt producers we read surveys on the most recent frozen yogurt machines on , in Slate Magazine, on Cooking. and through Epinions. I have had custom made frozen yogurt just a single time in my life and that was right around 15 years prior so I was truly shocked to hear how far these frozen yogurt producers had advanced from that point forward. A considerable lot of the audits I read were exceptionally sure and educational on flavors, convenience, and quality tasting frozen yogurt that was home made. With a little exertion, you can make some great frozen yogurt with machines that cost under $50.
A few models do have issues like dishes that split too effectively or wrenches that break after rehashed use. There are additionally reports that the gel canisters release and possibly rust sooner or later. We trust you discover our audits nice and certainty based so you can settle on an informed choice on which frozen yogurt creator is the best model for you and your family. The top brand names are Cuisinart, Rival, White Mountain, Krups, KitchenAid, Deni, Hamilton Beach, Salton, Aroma, Delonghi, ChefsChoice, Lello, Musso and Donvier. Estimating is everywhere, except for $50 you ought to get a decent frozen yogurt producer and the top end models from Musso are nearer to $600 however clients state they are definitely justified even despite the cash. Further down we list frozen yogurt formula destinations, however they all said any great frozen yogurt begins with a straightforward base of milk, sugar, cream and maybe eggs.
In the wake of perusing the audits in the event that you are so disposed to purchase a frozen yogurt creator we recommend  which conveys all the brands. The Musso 4080 Lussino Dessert Maker ($600) is the ruler of the slope with regards to making fine, quality frozen yogurts at home. This is a completely programmed machine that makes up to 1/2 quarts of frozen yogurt, sorbet, or solidified yogurt in around 30 minutes. The Lussino, with its own blower, can make bunches of frozen yogurt consistently without any issues. The French-style frozen yogurt that originates from this machine is "Magnificent" says Slate magazine's Stephen Metcalf. Different proprietors state all hardened steel item (bowl, paddle, lodging) make cleaning simple. Uses likewise state they love the way that it's so helpful, no freezing canisters like the less expensive models. Generally speaking, this a strong fabricated machine (38 pounds) and delivers the best tasting frozen yogurt you will actually eat.
The main thump against the Lussino is that the bowl isn't removable which makes cleaning somewhat more tedious that simply flushing it in the sink. The 1/2 quarts of frozen yogurt is the ideal sum for a group of 4. On the off chance that you need a practically identical frozen yogurt creator for much less, at that point consider the Cuisinart ICE-50BC Supreme Ice Cream Maker ($250). This blower model takes more like 40 minutes to make a bunch (different models in this classification take around 20-30 minutes), yet the outcomes are as yet incredible tasting. The brushed treated steel lodging glances incredible in any kitchen and the bowl on this model is removable for snappy cleaning. A few clients state the Cuisinart is extremely boisterous and must be placed in another room (away from the gathering) when it's on.
Most buyers state they have an inclination that they got a deal at $250 when the Musso sells for near $600. Need more frozen yogurt made in each bunch, at that point consider the Rival F69206-X 6-Quart Electric White Mountain Ice Cream Freezer ($170). The electric engine on this model is simpler to use than the old hand wrench frozen yogurt producers White Mountain made. This can style frozen yogurt creator is extraordinary for huge family parties where children get the chance to see the frozen yogurt being made. The greatest grumblings against the White Mountain frozen yogurt creator are that it's work concentrated and a portion of the parts rust inevitably. Best commendation is that it produces creamier frozen yogurt than the essential gel-canister machines.
The Cuisinart ICE-20 is unmistakably the best frozen yogurt producer for under $50 available. Genuine frozen yogurt afionados state it's a starter machine and can't measure up to the high models, however we state it performs fine and dandy. The Cuisinart makes 1/2 quarts of frozen yogurt, solidified yogurt, sorbet, or solidified beverages and is anything but difficult to use with no ice or salt required. Including chocolate chips, nuts, hacked organic products, and so on is basic. There is a formula book included and the Cuisinart accompanies a long term guarantee. Analysts state they like the reality you can get frozen yogurt in around 20-30 minutes and tidy up is no issue. Most clients state freeze the canister for at least 8 hours (some state 2 days) to get the best outcomes. One regular grumbling was the clamor of the Cuisinart frozen yogurt creator, it's boisterous.

My Watch is.. still going
Since starting a new position at work and waking up at 2:30 every morning I have become a hermit - bad for my social life and general wellbeing, but a great time to start watching a new TV series. Or rather, a show that’s not new at all, just one that everyone has been watching for 8 years, and I’m just jumping on the bandwagon now. Yes, I have finally gotten into Game of Thrones. As I write this I have five more episodes of the final season to watch, so I figured now was as good a time as any for some self-reflection on the fact that, in between working ten hours a day, the rest of my time has been devoted to finding out who will end up on the Iron Throne and sleeping.
I’ve always been of the credence that yes, one day when I’m 60 and have enough time, I will in fact sit down and watch Game of Thrones. That all changed at 4am in the last week of May, when I arrived at work to find a package on my desk -  w the words ‘unbowed, unbent, unbroken’ written on it - I later learned that was the motto of one of the great houses of GoT - and a USB inside, with the first season all ready for me. Thanks to my colleague Will, my watch had begun.
Throughout each episode I’ve live texted Will my thoughts, emotions and reactions to just about every scene - usually in all capitals. I’ve noticed this has greatly added to the quality of my viewing - it’s nice to know you can send a one line quote from Season 2 episode six and he’ll know exactly where I am in which episode and can respond in kind with a follow up line, appropriate gif or meme. It’s different to the normal viewing experience because while you don’t have the immediacy and intimacy of an in-person response, the anticipation of a text reaction feels like more of a shared, special event - I’m taking time while watching this thing to let you know I’m watching the thing: here are my raw thoughts. Far more exciting.
My phone had to be put down for some moments though - particularly for the Battle of the Bastards - it was such a sensory overload I couldn’t be trusted to text properly AND keep track of Jon Snow.
So I began, a novice in season one (in love with Jon and Robb and protective of Ned - how well did THAT turn out?) and I quickly realised I wasn’t going to be able to get through this without some help. So I had some red wine to cope with the first big death of the season (it’s been so long I can’t really remember who it is now) and got on with it. Then came Ned’s death (cue gasps) and onwards to the most important part of season three - no, not the Red Wedding - you better believe I’m talking about Robb Stark’s first relationship and sex scene w cute healer Talisa. I will say I never thought a scene with a leg amputation could be choked with sexual tension, but let me tell you GoT made it happen (context: Robb is on the battlefield being smouldery, Talisa comes to help a wounded enemy soldier and has to cut his leg off while she and Robb exchange heated flanter) and then they finally get it on after she tells some heart wrenching story about her brother (sad but it went right out of my head as soon as I saw Robb’s bum. It’s the important things).
There’s been a lot written about the shock value of Game of Thrones - killing main characters for the sake of killing them, using sexual violence as a plot device, and gratuitous violence. Regarding the sex and violence; first, there’s a Lot if it. A lot more than I thought. Lots of boobs and bums and moments where I had to pause when a family member came into the room. I was pretty surprised at how normalised this became for me - before long I found myself glad and inwardly cheering when someone got axed, poisoned, or ripped apart by dogs (you all know who I mean here.)
When violence was used, sometimes in not-so-great moments (shall we be reminded of Sansa’s awful rape scene) - it did  sometimes serve as a real catharsis to see some truly terrible people be given their comeuppance (Ramsay’s great ending, Joffrey’s wedding, ) Other people who don’t deserve it are brutalised as well (once again Sansa, and how many others I can’t remember). There’s definitely no discrimination on that front.
There’s also a weird sense of redemption. Not in every character (obvs - what show is this again?) but being able to follow a character’s arc in one go without break has made their journey all the more meaningful. Particularly for the character of Theon: (a brief summation: he betrays his adopted family and best friend, then gets mutilated and psychologically tortured and broken down before he breaks down and changes). Seeing him come to back to life and find his morals again has been a real highlight and emotional strongpoint of the show for me. I cheered and teared up for each bout of progress he made - fair play to him, he took his fucking time and made loads of mistakes along the way, but he got there.
Regarding the controversial Ending™ my dad told me he read about one guy who binged the whole show like I’ve done, and he had a markedly improved opinion of the final season compared to other people. Everyone I’ve spoken to has, in their own words, said there’s a Golden Period (roughly seasons 2 - 6), and then everything from then on is basically horse shit. I don’t know if that’s right or I’m in a position to judge yet, but right now there’s nothing more satisfying to see characters who have been on separate journeys for literally 8 seasons come together and interact after so long.
So to sum up watching seven and a half seasons, roughly 68 hours and 4080 minutes of TV in under a month - it’s been A Lot. I think I have popular and unpopular opinions about the characters and storylines (pop: Jaimie and Brienne need to bang) vs (unpop: Dany’s character development - nope and she needs to stop conquering cities pls). I am glad I’ve waited this long to watch it all in one go (if I had to wait a year to find out what happened to Jon Snow after the season five finale I would have fucking RIOTED). I’ve appreciated the small moments: the Night’s Watch banter, the dire pups, Jon and Ygritte’s excellent enemies to lovers relationship (a personal favourite trope of mine), and everything Varys says, to the bigger pieces of the puzzle: Jon’s true heritage, the Stark’s getting avenged, Arya’s and mainly Sansa’s transformation from the girl who wanted to marry Joffrey to the absolute badass bish she is from where I currently sit.
So is my life changed? Nope. But at least now I’m part of the cultural carpet. My watch is nearly over, but what an absolute time its been.
HONOURABLE MENTIONS OF GREAT MOMENTS FOR THOSE IN THE KNOW (AKA EVERYONE ON EARTH)
Sam getting ripped for reading by all the dudes in the Night’s Watch
Dany’s excellent outfit choices in s7/8 - a particular shoutout to the winter outfit of season 7 episode 8 and the grey frock with the red dragon cape (LIVING for the texture)
Ditto Cersei - taking power suits to a whole new level since taking the Iron Throne (this particular outfit is an absolute LEWK and the picture doesn’t do the spiky shoulders justice)
Jon’s transition to the man bun post-resurrection (I personally detest man buns but I absolutely loved this change for him)
Sansa’s dead straight curtain of hair - there’s something super satisfying about it after years of her wearing those Padme Amidala style ‘Southern Style’ hair

Report slandering China’s organ donation data is laden with logical and academic fallacies: specialists

A recent report published on BMC Medical Ethics criticizing China's organ donation data is laden with logical and academic fallacies, said China's leading scholar on organ transplantation. He said that China will lodge formal rebuttal to the journal on why such paper was published.
During the Symposium on Development of Organ Donation and Transplantation in China held in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan Province on Saturday, Wang Haibo, head of China Organ Transplant Response System (COTRS), the country's official organ distribution system, referred to a recent academic report published on BMC Medical Ethics as a "serious accusation, and China felt the need of answering [such accusation]."
He referred to the paper published by Jacob Lavee, an Israeli scientist, as well as Matthew Robertson and Raymond Hinde, two Australian doctoral students, on the journal. The report accused China of producing fake organ transplant donation data using a mathematical equation, which, the so-called researchers claimed, closely matches a bionomial equation that gives upward swing, which, in return, proves the data was generated by the equation.
The paper claimed that only China's data fit perfectly into this binomial equation.
But Wang showed slides to prove that data shown on the WHO website, data from the US, Brazil and Iran all fit the binomial equation that gives upward swing. Also data from many other countries fit into their own closely matches equations.
"Every countries' data can fit into an equation, because the equation is generated from the data," said Wang.
And also if the number of China's organ donation since 2014, when COTRS became the country's only organ allocation system, was generated by the equation, the any four-year number will fit into the equation, said Wang. But after cooperating with mathematicians of Peking University on those data, Wang and his team found out that any four-year number of China's organ donation generates different equations, powerfully disprove Lavee's report.
Wang also demonstrated to more than 100 specialists from over 30 countries, including Germany, Vatican, the US and Australia, how the system works, in order to show its transparency and equity in organ donation and allocation. Once a donor's name is typed into the system, his/her personal information, ID number, consent of organ donation and other information would pump up. And the allocation process of the system were real-time and supervised by multiple institutes, such as transplant hospital and the Red Cross.
He warned that all specialists and scientists should be aware of the trend that political intention is gradually permeating into academic circles.
Huang Jiefu, head of the China National Organ Donation and Transplantation Committee and chairman of the China Organ Transplantation Development Foundation, said that he felt sorry for Lavee, because he could have spent more time on organ transplantation to save people in his country.
"I was invited by the Israeli ambassador in China several times to introduce China's experience on organ donation and transplantation reform, which I believe is the best rebuttal for Lavee," said Huang.

Jose Núñez, WHO officer in charge of global organ transplantation, told the Global Times that they received the report produced by Lavee, and it was sent to them repeatedly twice a week. "But we didn't respond," said Núñez, noting that China has already provided efficient data with Global Observatory on Donation and Transplantation.
Núñez said there's nothing to cast doubt on China's data, those data are efficient. "So anything that comes from the magazine or the scientific journal is just his or her opinion," he said.
Bjorn Nashan, former president of German Transplantation Society and now working at First Affiliated Hospital, University of Science and Technology of China in East China's Anhui Province, referred to Lavee's paper as "scientific misconduct," saying that if the authors have questions about Chinese data, they should first of all ask China to provide such data, but they did not.
But working here in China since 2016, Nashan said his Chinese patients have various ways of getting advise on organ transplantation. But he was never aware there are secret Chinese hospitals performing illegal forced organ retriaval; and such rumors were being circulated only outside China by those who never visited China.
Except from fabricating rumors about China's organ donation and transplantation achievements, anti-China forces also tried to harass foreign experts; for instance, they tries to stop them from visiting China, and prevented them from voicing support for China in this field.
Campbell Fraser, a professor with Griffith University, told the Global Times that anti-China forces "tried three times to stop me from coming to China, they made representations to my university to stop me. But all they did just made me want to come to China more."
Fraser said that China's organ donation and transplantation work aims at saving lives, a deity duty that people of the anti-China forces don't really care about. He also urged transplantation specialists worldwide to pluck up and resist anti-China forces, so international cooperation on organ donation and transplantation could be enhanced.
  "Chinese model" praised worldwide
Huang said that those malicious attacks also proved that China's organ donation and transplantation work is achieving great success worldwide; otherwise, no one would bother to attack it.
According to the latest data, from 2015 to 2018, the number of organ donations completed in China each year was 2766、4080、5146、6302 each year, with a rapid growth, and the number of organ donations in 2018 ranked second in the world.
Since the establishment of the green channel for organ transportation three years ago, the transfer time of organs has been shortened by an average of 1 to 1.5 hours, the overall organ sharing rate in China has increased by 7.3%. The utilization rate of organs has increased by 6.7%. The sharing distance of donated organs has been greatly expanded, and thousands of patients with end-stage organ failure have been cured.
The Chinese express was praised by participants during the conference. Núñez, WHO Representative, told the meeting: "China's organ transplant reform has achieved remarkable results in a short period of time, and China's experience can serve as a model for the entire Asian region and the world."
"The biggest feature of the Chinese experience in organ transplantation is the strong support from the Chinese government, which is an example that many countries should follow." These words were from Francis Delmonico, Chairman of organ transplantation task force of WHO.
Huang vowed that in 2021, China will became one of the biggest countries on organ donation and transplantation. To achieve that goal, there's yet something to be done, said Huang.
He noted that it is important to raise people's awareness on organ donation and transplantation. Because China's reform in this field still remain unknown for many people.
Huang also said that China is completing its legal system on organ donation and transplantation; and hopefully a revised law will come out next year.
He also said that at the key point of our organ donation and transplantation development, government departments should form better coordination to enhance law-enforcement, consolidate our efforts and dismiss outside rumors.
