On the campaign trail this year, Donald Trump routinely criticized US media. The president-elect called for CBS to be stripped of its broadcast license after it aired an interview with Kamala Harris, refused to participate in an interview with 60 Minutes and routinely called journalists the “enemy of the people”. But perhaps no American media has attracted as much ire from the president-elect as the Corporation for Public Broadcasting – a non-profit corporation created by federal law in 1967 to distribute funding to public media organizations like PBS and NPR.

“NO MORE FUNDING FOR NPR, A TOTAL SCAM!” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social in April. “THEY ARE A LIBERAL DISINFORMATION MACHINE. NOT ONE DOLLAR!!!” As the Trump prepares to take office next month, public media organizations – such as NPR and PBS, which have aired longtime favorites such as Curious George and All Things Considered – are readying themselves for funding cuts and other attacks against their programming. After Trump was re-elected in November, NPR member stations circulated a report warning that “it would be unwise to assume that events will play out as they have in the past” where funding is concerned, the New York Times reported Friday, and PBS board members received an update from political consultants earlier this month. Trump and his allies have repeatedly called for the federal government to cut all funding to public media. In March 2017, Trump called for Congress to cut all funding to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting in the first proposed budget of his presidency – a call he repeated throughout his presidency.

In response to a 2020 effort to defund public media, the PBS president and CEO, Paula Kerger, issued a statement noting that “PBS and our member stations have earned bipartisan Congressional support because of the vital role that public television plays in homes and communities across the country. For 50 years, PBS has served as a trusted source for educational and thought-provoking programming, including school readiness initiatives for children, support for teachers and caregivers, public safety communications and lifelong learning across broadcast and digital platforms.” But the conservative playbook Project 2025 has continued echoing conservative calls to cut funding to PBS and NPR, stating that the new Trump administration should strip public media of federal funding and licenses for noncommercial education stations.

American public media traces its origins to the Public Broadcasting Act of 1967, passed under Lyndon B Johnson’s administration. A public-private partnership, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting connects 1,190 public radio stations and 356 public television stations with federal grants, allowing those stations to maintain editorial independence and also raise funds from members and sponsorships. Today, 99% of the US population lives within listening range of at least one public media station.

The attacks on NPR and PBS should worry us all, as it is part of Donald Trump's authoritarian war on press freedom.

Hi there! So, I've been eyeing your blog for a really long time (ever since I heard of the Mei Hou Wang project), and to put it bluntly, I've been developing a comic re-imagining of the JTTW. And I apologize if this is an odd question, but I'd like to ask, do you know of any pieces of media- whether it be a book or a show or a particularly helpful blog or website- that does a good job at depicting general Chinese mythology accurately?

To be more specific, I'm looking towards smaller or lesser-known details, like mentions of typically forgotten magical artifacts, rarely mentioned gods, astronomical associations, monsters or magical beasts- really anything, truly!

^ If you have anything for me, please do not feel restrained by what's within the JTTW myth, as half of my story is meant to be grounded within the "forgotten" mythos and any information is appreciated!

But I can't really say that there is a show that is just pure Chinese mythos that is like the go-to books. I would say just try to go to your local library or bookstore and find any good Chinese Mythology book as most of that genre is great.

Chinese Myths & Tales Foreword by Davide Latini is pretty good. There is also The classic of mountains and seas published by Penguin Books. There is also Fantastic creatures of the mountains and seas : a Chinese classic that is pretty good. Also Chinese Mythology: An Introduction and Handbook of Chinese Mythology (links for provided by @journeytothewestresearch). There is also some great youtubes that have great content, I know of like Xiran Jay Zhao or even history channels go into great detail. Also @/ryin-silverfish has some great links as well!

I've been sitting on this thought for a while, and decided to post it after all.

I have a challenge for 2025 for every single person who dared to even just once use any of the other queer characters or relationships on 9-1-1 to use the little interest in those characters and ships as some kind of misguides weapon. (And yes, I very deliberately will tag a certain ship for this.)

Go into the tags of those characters and ships and read every single fic actually focused on them, leave a kudo, and leave a nice, thoughtfull, encouraging comment. Put your time and energy where your mouth is and actually show some support!

Some numbers for this project under the cut.

If you go to the Henren tag on AO3 and exclude the other most common nine relationships under "Exclude" there are 224 stories left. Even then you'll encounter some untagged Buddie fics, but not many. If you go to the "POV Karen Wilson" tag without any other filters, you have 26 fics. If you go the "POV Henrietta "Hen" Wilson" tag without any other filters, you have 106 works. There are overlaps between these three numbers, so overall there are less than 356 fic for Henren, and most of them are less than 5k words.

If you go to the "Michael/David" tag and exclude Buddie, you get 22 fics, and only two are exclusive "Michael/David"! There doesn't seem to be a POV tag for either of them.

You have only 9 works with the tag "POV Josh Russo" without any other filters. There ar 8 works tagged with "Josh Russo/OMC", and some more fics where Josh is paired with Buck, Eddie, or Tommy. There all in all are 305 stories tagged with "Josh Russo" as a character if you exclude Buddie, Madney, and Bucktommy.

There are also 3 fics tagged Mitchell/Thomas (though, all either Buddie or Bucktommy) and 2 fics tagged Chloe/Gabi (the the oil well in s5).

All in all, those aren't a lot of fics. Especially as most of them aren't very long. A year is more than enough to turn away from your little bubble and show some actual support for the characters and ships you were so outraged over not getting enough support from the wider fandom.

DIY Main Menu -- How to customize it!

Hi howdy! This is the Tumblr mirror of a tutorial posted to my Patreon. The contents are the same, so choose whichever you prefer for reading!

What you'll need for this tutorial:

The DIY main menu .package, found in the main posting

FFDEC / JPEXS decompiler

Photopea (or an offline image editor that can do the same)

Sims 4 Studio

Let's get started!

Preparation 1: Create your images using the size templates provided!

Here they are! They can also be found on Patreon (for free, of course)

Preparation 2: Resize your images using photopea, and save as .png

Open each of your images in photopea (or editor of choice), and squish the canvas into a square!

The main menu background should be 1600x1600 pixels! The sidebar should be 1000x1000 pixels!

Do not try to make them larger for 'more detail', they will break!

Step 1: Open [sdm] DIY mainmenu in Sims 4 Studio

Self explanatory, open it by double-clicking, or by clicking the 'my projects' button and navigating to the file.

Step 2: Export the first item in the warehouse

It should be a Scale Form GFX type! Right click, and select 'export'. Name this something you'll remember, and save it in a folder you'll come back to!

Step 3: Rename the exported file so it has the extension 'swf'

Self explanatory! Windows will may warn you that it may make the file unusable, but you can ignore this!

Step 4: Open FFDEC/JPEXS, and open the now .swf file

Step 5: Expand the 'images' hierarchy, and scroll all the way down until you find the images labeled 354 and 356!

These images are the main background and the sidebar background respectively. 

Step 6: Right click and replace ONLY images 354 and 356 with the images you prepared earlier

Remember, the main background (354) MUST BE 1600x1600 pixels, and the sidebar (356) MUST BE 1000x1000 pixels!

Step 7: 'Save as' a new .gfx or .swf file

The filetype here doesn't matter! You can also just save over, but I like keeping backups.

Step 8: Re-import over the original in Sims 4 Studio

Right-click the same item in the .package's warehouse that you exported earlier, but this time, click 'import'.

Select the .gfx/.swf you saved earlier!

Step 9: Save the .package file, and rename it if you intend on distributing

You can rename the .package file just how you would any other file! Try and include your creator's handle in it, so it the edit can be traced back to you.

Step 10: Test and enjoy!

“I think you’re thinking of vampires sweetheart,” He smiled. “If I’m alright in there, you’ll be fine too.”

“You sure?”

“Absolutely.” He opened his arms and Sirius slipped into them immediately. “I wish we didn’t have to, but Teddy’s excited about singing a bunch of songs about plants apparently.”

“There’s going to be kids singing?” Sirius buried his face in Remus’ chest. “Ugh. Why does he even go to a school with a church?”

“Because we all decided it was the best school, despite the church link. It’s pretty much just in name only at this point. They made little clay tea-light holders for Diwali last week.”

“Yeah, only in name until we have to go to fucking church,” Sirius muttered. “Four queer heathens just rocking up to support our kid. The vicar will love that.”

“I doubt she’ll even notice.” Remus rolled his eyes, “We’re going. For Teddy.”

“Well of course we are.” He said quickly, “I’m just going to whinge to you about it until it’s done.”

“I know you are,” He smiled.

The ORX-005 Gaplant

With more incursions on Earth itself by Zeon remnant factions and other militant groups, the Federation sought a solution to the issue of MS mobility under gravity. While any mobile suit could make use of a sub-flight unit - such as the Dodai or Base Jabber - they were generally unreliable in combat situations, with rapid maneuvering potentially causing riders to lose balance.

Federation engineers began doing what they do best, and eventually produced the RX-78E Gundam GT-FOUR to serve as a proof of concept.

The machine - while plagued with issues - proved the viability of variable mobile suits, and was considered a success. With this success, the team was given the green light to continue development of variable machines.

The ORX-003 Domingo was one such machine, and would serve as the basis for development going forward. The Domingo stood at an impressive 25 meters in order to accommodate its transformation mechanism. It boasted an impressive mobile suit to mobile armor transformation time of under five seconds, but needed almost a full ten seconds to transform back.

The ORX-005 Gaplant saw its first deployment in UC 0085 as a joint project between the Augusta and Oakland research labs, incorporating lessons learned from the Domingo.

While the issue of unassisted flight was unimportant in space, the Gaplant was developed with space use in mind. Its MA mode was able to make use of the Active Mass Balance Auto-Control (AMBAC) system almost as efficiently as the MS mode, affording it extreme maneuverability.

However, this maneuverability came at a steep cost, and most pilots were unable to handle the intense g-force exerted on them in combat maneuvers. The Gaplant could only be handled by so-called Cyber-Newtypes, thanks to their enhanced bodies.

The Gaplant saw use during the Gryps conflict, where it was fielded by the Titans. At least two standard units are known to have existed at the time - piloted by Rosamia Badam and Yazan Gable respectively, with an unknown number of modified and/ or experimental units.

The Gaplant was also extensively experimented with by the Titans Test Team, resulting in a number of unconventional units, with some eventually falling into the hands of Zeon remnant groups. Recovered Gaplant prototypes were even modified and fielded by groups such as Karaba and the AEUG.

In UC 105, a group of hijackers used a Gaplant to approach and board Haunzen flight 356.

Known sightings of the Gaplant later on are rare. Notably, in U.C. 203, the wreckage of a Gaplant inspires Afranche Char to fight the Federation when it washes up on the shore of his home island.

The ORX-005 Gaplant was originally designed by Kazumi Fujita for the 1985 anime Moblie Suit Zeta Gundam.

Louie Duck (Quack Pack) as Alexander the Great - Conquerors - Real Ducks in History - History in Duckverse - My version

I’ve always wanted to do a special project called Duckverse in History and my plan is to draw my favorite characters as redraws from famous works of art as well as famous historical figures. And since history is my favorite science, and my favorite field, I definitely wanted to do something related to it and related to one of my favorite historical characters. Since I don’t want to complicate the situation, I will gradually publish a drawing related to that historical figure from time to time. I started this last year for Duckvember only to finish at the end of April.

This drawing shows Louie Duck (the Quack Pack version, not the Ducktales reboot) shows Alexander the Great, another brilliant conqueror from the fourth century BC (born 356 BC, died 323 BC, reigned as king of Macedonia from 336 BC) and I drew it as a redraw from the mosaic of Alexander the Great from the battle of Issus in which he confronts the Persian king Darius III from Pompeii, probably from the first century BC. Alexander the Great was the son of Philip II and the king of Macedonia who united Greece and fought against Persia and managed to conquer an entire empire in his twenties. He traveled through the Persian Empire and reached India and wanted to continue, but his soldiers did not want to continue, so he returned to Babylon, his new capital. He certainly changed the world at that time and introduced a new culture, called Hellenism, as a combination of ancient Greek culture and the culture of the Ancient East and ancient India. I drew Louie as Alexander because as a young man he is a great adventurer and rides his black horse Bucephalus and is eager for extremes, yet unlike Alexander, Louie shows a bit of his shyness, but is still brave enough to take on new challenges. I also added a helmet as worn by Alexander III in his time. Behind Louie are the pyramids from Egypt, the Ishtar Gate from Babylon and the imperial palace from Persepolis where the Persian rulers lived and it actually shows the lands that Alexander the Great conquered.

I'm planning to draw my favorite Duckverse characters as famous historical figures as my own ideas for my Duckverse in history AU. Unfortunately, due to the lack of time lately, it's going to be a bit tight, and unfortunately bad things have happened at my house, which is why I had to be on hiatus for a long period, last month and this month. Sorry about this, there will definitely be new surprises next week so don't miss it in the future.

I certainly hope you like this drawing and this idea and that these characters have such historical roles. Of course, Duckverse in history I combine mostly everything related to Duckverse (Donald Duck comics, OG Ducktales, Three Caballeros, Darkwing Duck and Quack Pack) and it’s mostly my version and my idea.
