@helen-with-an-a wanted it... you all have to suffer
You hardly keep something from Lucy. There were a few times you didn't tell her things. The time you broke her favorite mug. Then when you started dating Georgia. Oh – and the time you got mint jelly all over her first Olympic Jersey. So you keeping something from her felt incredibly wrong to you. You didn't LIKE to keep things from her. But you also were a person that need to prove to yourself that you can achieve things without the name Bronze or without Lucy. That's why you kept all this from her. You were living in Barcelona now – Barcelona was your home. It was where your Family was. Lucy. Keira. Ona. Alexia. Mapí. All them spaniards (and Jenni the lanky half-Mexican from the bad area from Spain) you love more than life and that you would give your life without a second thought. So keeping one of the biggest thing in your life from your sister was hard. And it got significant harder once the others caught on that something was going on with you. You talked to Georgia a lot. You finished school in summer and you knew you just had to ask Alexia and you immediately would have a job at Barca but you wanted more. Yes, you were good at analytics and tactics but you wanted to help on a different level. So your girlfriend suggested you would start to train to be a physio but true to Bronze fashion you wanted more. You wanted what Lucy did – you wanted to study and you wanted to understand the human body and the movements and the muscles and the tendons and... everything.
So you looked up some courses at Unis in England when Georgia suggested you should probably look in Barcelona. Barcelona had excellent Universities and you did found something that would go in the direction you wanted so you wrote an application and to your big surprise you got accepted. You hoped that it wasn't because of the name Bronze but on the other hand you didn't really care when you opened the letter. You immediately called Georgia who was at training but called back ASAP once she saw the 31 missed calls from you thinking something has happened.
“Hola Cari” you heard Alexia entering the meeting room where you were hiding most of the trainings theses days working on your paper for “school”
“Hola” you squeaked and slapped your laptop shut panicked
“Are you okay Cariño?” the blonde raised an eyebrow at your weird acting
“Sí... mi bueno... mucho bueno” you nodded fast your hand still on your laptop
“We taught you better than that” Alexia huffed slapping the back of your head lightly “... what are you doing in here anyway?”
“Nothing” you answered quickly pushing the laptop a little away so Alexia couldn't snatch it away
“You weren't watching porn were you?” the blonde asked seriously still a little carefully
“WHAT??” you looked at her bewildered “NO!!”
“I mean I would understand....” Alexia said carefully “... you and Georgia... long distance”
“Oh ew...” you scrunched up your nose “.. please stop talking about... what I do or don't do with my girlfriend”
“Then what are you doing?” the blonde pushed again trying to grab your laptop
“Hello?? Privacy??!!!” you exclaimed jumping up from your chair pulling the electronic device to your chest as you took a few steps back to get some distance between you and the catalan
“Please..” Alexia snorted chuckling “... you should know there's hardly any privacy around this dysfunctional familia... how often did you walk in on Ona and Lucy now?”
“Yeah well.. I want my privacy now... so can you just leave?” you whined before you mumbled “... seven times”
“Cari....” the blonde said softly “... I don't know what you're doing but it's nothing dangerous right?”
“No... it's just something I need to do by myself” you said seriously
“If you need help you know you can come to any of us right?” Alexia said firmly
“I know...” you nodded “... I promise I'll tell you soon okay.. I just... need to figure it out myself first”
“Okay... I trust you that there won't be Police on the side one day trying to take you away” the blonde said “... if your sister asks... do Maps a favor and say you did indeed watch porn”
With that Alexia left you alone and you looked shocked at the door that just fell shut
“Hey Bubs..” your sister greeted you as you entered the locker room
“Hey” you grumbled back
“Woah... what's wrong Bits?” Keira now perked up from the opposite side giving you a once over if you sported any new bruises or wounds
“Nothing” you grumbled proceeding to stuff your laptop and some papers in your personal Barcelona Bag
“Bubs... talk to me” Lucy said softly when she came over to sit next to your cubby – yes you had your own cubby gifted by the Barca captains themselves
“What's there to talk... not an INCH of privacy in this godforsaken place...” you grumble subtly fixing the rim of your shirt
“What?” your sister said dumb folded not catching on
“Bitsy speak up... your sister doesn't get it... as usual” Keira said rolling her eyes already “knowing” what happened
“I have needs okay... my girlfriend is thousand miles away...” you looked at Lucy faking to be upset “... ALL of you should have been at training... ALL... yes ALL... except for Mrs. Alexia “I can do whatever I want because I'm La Reina” Putellas... SHE doesn't have to train... she's sooooo good... newsflash... your one touch is lacking”
“Woah whoa whoa whoa...” Lucy held her hands up in a calming matter “WHAT are you talking about?”
“I have NEEDS Luce...” you huffed
“What do you need? Can I help somehow??” your sister asked confused and you heaved
“She was watching porn Lucy... or a video from G getting herself off” Keira now interrupted dryly
“Oh my god!!” Lucy exclaimed shocked.. and disgusted.. but mostly shocked
“HA!!!” you heard Mapí exclaimed victoriously
“María” you heard a second voice smirking when Ingrid slapped her girlfriend and shot her a death glare
“NEVER say anything like this again” Lucy coughed after she gagged loudly “You are my little sister... you die a virgin because you don't HAVE a sex life”
“Oh but I...” you started nonchalantly
“Bitsy” Keira interrupted you in a warning tone “No”
“But...” you whined
“Do you really want me to come over and we discuss that in private?” Keira challenge you with a raised eyebrow
“No no... I'm good.... thank you” you said quickly when you got a glimpse of the clock
“SHIT... I'm late” you quickly threw the rest of your stuff in the bag and sprinted towards the exit just to get stopped by Alexia
“Late for what?” the blonde catalan blocked the door
“Not your business” you said getting slightly angry trying to push past her
“You really think you can push me over?” Alexia looked down at you crossing her arms in front of her chest
“I know your weak spot...” you said dangerously calm “... don't make me hurt you Alexia... let me go”
You and Alexia got into a little stare off before the blonde took a step to the side letting you hastily fly through the door
“You letting her leave? Alexia!” Lucy exclaimed confused
“Something tells me the Cari has some things to figure out” the catalan said softly
“Ehrm.. Amor?” Ona now speaks up being a little shady
“Sí?” Lucy looked at her girlfriend after she processed what Alexia said
“Please tell me you have the Car keys” Ona asked already knowing the answer
“No... I gave them to you...” your sister shook her head bewildered
“Yeah... about that...” her girlfriend scratched the back of the neck “... I think Bebita took them”
“WHAT???” Lucy yelled shocked starting to pull her clothes from her bag again looking for her car key
“No no no no no no” your sister whined after she reached the bottom of her bag “Noooooohooooo”
“She got you again Bronze?” Keira smirked evilly
“Shut it Walsh” Lucy grumbled as she fell down on the bench “... you can give us a lift?”
“Sure thing” Keira laughed “... but you better move your ass... you know I'll leave without you and just drive your girlfriend home.... and when we're at yours we pass the time by painting our nails and talk about your performance... the not on the pitch performance”
“You are an evil EVIL woman Walsh” your sister grumbled and stuffed her trainings stuff back into her bag
“Sorry for being late... got held up at... work” you panted entering the classroom now everyone looking at you
“I'll let it slide this time but only because you are one of the Best in this course” your Teacher Mrs. Hernandez looked at you strictly and then nodded her head towards your place and you quickly scrambled to sit down and pull out your papers and sat up your laptop “... and you can start with explaining your paper you better have finished since last lesson”
“Yeah.... about that... my... dog ate it” you scratched the back of your neck embarrassed
“Your... dog ate it??” the dark haired woman asked confused raising an eyebrow
Truth was... Narla didn't ate it. You worked on that paper and you finished it. In Munich. At your girlfriends apartment. On your second laptop. That was still in Munich.
“Yeah....” you tried to grin innocent resulting in a pained grimace
“How about we try the truth?” the woman asked fixing you with a glare
“Damn... you're just like Ale...” you mumbled but then cleared your throat “... I forgot it in Munich and my dearest is to... untechnical to get through me safety settings sooooo...”
“So you have time to go on holiday to Germany instead of studying?” Mrs. Hernandez asked
“No no no... I do study” you said quickly “... my girlfriend lives in Munich and no one except for her know that I'm doing this so whenever I know my familia is home I flee to Munich so I can have my peace and quiet and know one will see what I'm doing because... I don't want them to get involved before I passed this class”
“Now that's a reason I can get behind” the dark haired woman nodded understanding before she fixed you with a glare once again “... I want BOTH papers before next lesson starts on my desk in printed form”
“Sí... gracias” you nodded quickly already planning your next trip to Germany
“Aitana…” you said quietly
“Sí?” the small catalan asked confused
“I need your help….” you whispered looking around so no one would hear you “… I can offer you a deal”
“Aha” Aitana took a step back
“You teach me catalan…. I teach you English” you mumbled quickly
“I don’t need helping in English” the catalan looked confused
“You say things like “you work or no work”…. “ you deadpanned
“Yes… she was at every game” Aitana looked even more confused
“Firstly it’s rude and secondly it’s not English” you rolled your eyes “… sooooo… we have a deal?”
“Why you don’t need helping from Alexia?” the small player asked
“She’ll ask questions that I can’t answer right now….” you mumbled “… and you definitely need help with English”
“Okay…” Aitana shrugged her shoulders and that was the start of the most chaotic private lessons existing to this day.
“Bitsy... we need to talk” Keira said pulling you away after training a week later
“What? Why? I did nothing?” you said quickly a little scared
“Sit” the englishwoman gestured to one of the seats in the stands and you promptly sit down “So... what's going on?”
“Huh? Nothing?” you asked confused
“Bitsy... you never lied to me... okay once but that was technically okay since it was a surprise party” Keira said firmly “... so I'll humor you and ask again... what's going on?”
“Nothing I swear” you held your hands up in a defending manner
“For weeks now you're different... your mind is somewhere else... you hardly participate in pranks with them nutcases anymore... you fly an AWEFUL lot out to Munich... you spend hardly any time with Lucy, Ona, Alexia or me for the matter... so... what's going on.. you and G okay?” your “Mom” asked her voice showing a little concern
“Oh... OH...” you exclaimed “... yeah... all good”
“And???” Keira looked at you with that “go on”-look
“And nothing... all good” you smiled standing up for Keira to pull you right back down
“Y/n” she warned you and you know you are basically fucked
“I promise all is good... but..” you started with a little wince “... I can't talk about it... not right now... I promise everything is okay and I will tell you eventually just not... now”
“Okay...” the blonde said after she studied your face for a minute “... you know I trust you Bitsy and when you say you're okay I believe you... BUT.. if you got trouble I want you to come to me okay...”
“I promise Kei.. that's just something I have to do on my own... FOR me” you said seriously and Keira nodded slowly
“Okay... just promise me you didn't get pregnant or married... Lucy would get a stroke” Keira smiled slightly
“PREGNANT????” you screeched causing several heads to whip in your direction making Keira burst out laughing
“BUBS???!!!” Lucy yelled over shocked
“NO!!!! NO!!!!” you shook your head panicked as your sister started to come over to you and Keira
“You know she's gonna make you do a test right?” Keira wheezed out when she saw Lucys face
“I'm not pregnant” you squeak out your sister now coming up resting against the railing her eyebrows raised
“Then you won't have anything against taking a test right?” Lucy looked at you
“Told you” Keira bursted out laughing again
“You can take a test” you grumbled sinking lower in that uncomfortable plastic chair
“I'm pretty confident I'm not the one who just yelled Pregnant over the whole pitch...” your sister said in a matter of fact voice “... Alexia is already on her way to get one”
“I'm NOT taking a pregnancy test” you glared at Lucy
“So... you have something to hide then” Lucy poked your ego
“No... but I'm not supporting your stupidness” you shot back while Keira nearly fell of the chair clutching her torso laughing
“You are in a very.... difficult age Bubs....” your sister started slowly “... your hormones...”
“GOOOOOD” you groaned “... please stop.... Keira.... make her stop”
“Oh no... this is very entertaining” the blonde laughed at the uncomfortable look on Lucys and the disgusted look on your face
“You just take the test Bubs and we're good” Lucy said shrugging her shoulders not really wanting to have this conversation
“Luce... I'm NOT pregnant...” you said seriously “... G is good but not THAT good”
“Oh gooooood...” now your sister groaned while Keira interrupted into a new round of laughter
“Hey Alexia” you strolled up to the Barca capitan after a gym session several weeks later
“Yes Cari?” Alexia breath slightly labored as she wiped her face with a towel
“What are you doing next Thursday??” you asked slightly nervous
“Nothing I think... I have to check my planner but I don't think I have anything planned why?” the blonde catalan said after she thought about it for a second
“Could you and Olga maybe... be there...” you asked quietly pulling out a scrunched up piece of paper with an address and a time scribbled on it
“Ehrm... okay... can I ask why?” Alexia looked confused as she took the paper from you
“Just.... it's something important to me... so... please?” you shuffled nervously from left to right
“Okay... okay we'll be there” the blonde smiled softly feeling the nervous energy radiating from you “Thank you... casual chic... or just chic.... whatever you feel like” you mumbled quickly before you basically run from the gym
“Oh Cari.... what have you done now?” Alexia huffed lightly as she watches you leave and started to collect her things
“Luce??” you yelled as soon as you opened the door “Ona?”
“Living room” you heard your sister yelling back
“OKAY” you yelled back kicking your shoes down the hallway
“Why do you two always have to yell?” Ona groaned
“Love language” Lucy shrugged and grinned “…. When she yells I know she’s okay”
“Sooooo….” you said a little carefully
“Sooooo?” your sister asked sitting on the couch Onas head in her lap
“You free next Thursday?” you shuffled around nervously
“Think so…. Why?” Lucy looked at you expectantly
“Just… be there at 7” you said quickly and threw another scrunched up piece of paper at them and quickly made your exit
“Bubs” your sister yelled after you while Ona unfolded the piece of paper that hit her on the forehead
“What is it?” Lucy looked down on her girlfriend
“It’s an address” the catalan said confused
“I swear if she caused trouble and that’s a court date…” your sister grumbled
“It’s the Universities address” Ona said as she looked up from her phone as she googled the address
“University?” Lucy asked bewildered
“Yes…” the blonde showed her girlfriend the screen
“What the… BUBS??!!!” your sister yelled
“She’s not home!!!!” you yelled back from your room
“Stop being a Twat and get your ass in here” Lucy groaned
“No….” you whined
“Y/n Tough Bronze” your sister hollered
“Lucy… let her be…” Ona said softly “… it obviously took a lot for her to ask us to be there – so don’t squeeze informations out of her”
“I just want to know what’s going on….” Lucy defended herself
“Lucia…” the catalan warned
“Yeah okay…” your sister huffed
“Hey Kei….” you said appearing out of nowhere next to the blonde English woman
“Jesus Christ” Keira exclaimed shocked clutching her chest “DONT do that”
“What?” you looked confused
“Don’t appear out of thin air like this” the blonde exclaimed
“I literally walked down the sideline… not my fault you don’t pay attention to your surroundings” you shrugged
“I was talking to Vicky” Keira throws her arms in the air
“Not my fault she’s not paying attention to your surroundings” you waved off
“What do you want pest?” the blonde rolled her eyes
“Next Thursday… 7PM… be there” you fished another paper out of your pocket just as scrunched up as the ones you handed out before
“And why would I want to be there?” Keira ask confused
“Just… please?” you said shyly
“Okay” the blonde huffed knowing by your reaction that it was important to you
“Thanks Kei” you smiled
“Always Bitsy” Keira smiled back softly
“You ready Babe?” Georgia asked fixing the tie around her neck
“I can’t do this…” you said panicked pulling on your robe
“Stop” your girlfriend said firmly grabbing your shaking hands
“I can’t G… I just can’t… everyone will be there…” your breathing labored
“Breath….” Georgia said calmly
“You don’t understand” you started again just to get interrupted
“… you are nervous… I do understand that… but you worked so hard… you sacrificed so much…” your girlfriend talked lowly “… you showed that even off the pitch you come out on top… you are the best of the class… I am so proud of you and everyone else will be too”
“But what if they’re mad I kept this from them…” a new wave of anxiety hits you “… Lucy gonna be so mad”
“Baby…” Georgias voice strict “… no one is gonna be mad… not Keira… nor Ona… and definitely not Lucy… you worked your ass off and you deserve it more than anyone”
“I need to hold a SPEECH!!!! A SPEECH G!!!” you squeak
“I know…” your girlfriend smiled softly “… and you’ll absolutely smash it”
“IN CATALAN G!!!” you screeched
“And you learned to speak catalan from the best…” Georgia smiled
“I…. guess….” you calmed down slightly
“See… you are prepared… and pretty…. So so pretty” your girlfriend smiled pressing a soft kiss to your lips
“I don’t…” you started
“No… we will go there… you get your diploma and then we leave… we getting a pizza at the shop down the road and then we celebrate your bachelor degree” Georgia said keeping her voice soft
“Pizza sounds good” you mumbled
“See… we just quickly go and pick up that piece of paper and get pizza” your girlfriend shrugged smiling and gently pushed you towards the door
“Alexia …” Lucy said surprised “… what are you doing here? What is this? You know what this is?”
“Cariño invited Olga and me…” Alexia looked at her teammate “… and no… no idea”
“Kei… do you have…” your sister turned around having spotted her ex
“… no idea” Keira interrupted Lucy rolling her eyes
“Then what are we doing here?” Lucy asked bewildered
“You’re here to support a person that’s important to you and you are important to her…” Georgia said appearing next to Keira “… she’s fucking nervous as it is so all of you pull it together and support her”
“Where did you come from?” your sister looked at Georgia pure confusion on her face
“From the champagne stand over there” your girlfriend pointed to a little bar with her glass “… it’s free and I thought… Eeh.. why not”
“Spill Stanway” Lucy growled getting upset
“Not in a million years…” Georgia snorted “… you’ll have to wait and see… I don’t know what your plans are but I’m going to me place now”
“I can’t believe she ignored me…” your sister started as Keira started to snort
“… you growling at her like a toothless puppy?” Keira asked “She knows you’re all bark no bite by now Luce”
“I am intimidating!!” Lucy exclaimed
“Yes Amor… so intimidating” Ona smirked and started to follow Georgia
“I AM!!” your sister shouted after the group
“I am” Lucy mumbled to herself now trotting after the others finding her place
“I can’t believe…” Lucy said shocked looking up to the stage where you were currently holding your speech in catalan
“…. She pulled that off?” Georgia helped out
“That she really …. she got a bachelors degree now…” your sister said in disbelieve
“She worked her ass off for it…” your girlfriend hummed “… the amount of times I found her at the kitchen table in the morning fast asleep on her papers… she really worked for it Luce”
“I… we… we all would’ve helped…” Lucy whispered given up already trying to understand what you were saying due to it being catalan “… why didn’t she say anything?”
“She was scared she could fail and that you’d be disappointed in her…” Georgia said remembering how often she herself tried to get you to talk to Lucy “… she said if she did fail no one but me would be disappointed”
“What a truck load of bullshit” Lucy grumbled
“I know… it still doesn’t change the fact that she wants to meet your goals Lucy… you are so fucking important to her…” your girlfriend said lowly “… the thought she could fuck up nearly broke her”
“Can you two shut up… I’m listening to the Cariño speech” Alexia sneered from two seats down
“I don’t understand anything anyway “ Lucy shot back
“Maybe if you’d listen you would’ve noticed her saying that she couldn’t have done it without the upbringing you provided her with because you taught her to fight no matter the outcome and that everything she achieved was because of you being her role model” Alexia said her voice low
“She did?” your sister asked perplex
“Yes….” Ona said tears in her eyes “… yes she did”
“But I…” Lucy looked around for help
“You showed her the world Lucy… from the moment I met you two it was clear that you were HER world… you just never realized how much…” Keira said softly “… none of us could ever reach the podium she holds you on… you two always were more than just sisters… you two always had something special”
“I…” your sister was at loss for words as you ended your speech and received your diploma smiling widely
“You are her everything Luce…” Georgia smiled clapping her friends back “… just like she is yours”
“Sooooo…” you slandered up to your girlfriend “… about that pizza….”
“Yeah I think we can kiss that idea goodbye…” your girlfriend smirked nodding behind you
“So proud of you” you recognized the voice of your sister as she pulled you into a bone crushing hug “so fucking proud”
“Lucy…” you groaned your voice strangled “… need air”
“Lucy” Keira warned “… no killing tonight”
“I’m just proud!! Can’t I be a proud sister for once?” Lucy asked flabbergasted still holding onto you tightly
“Air” you squeak out hitting your sister wherever you could reach her
“Amor…” Ona said softly prying Lucys arms away from around you “… others want to be proud too”
“I have first proud right!!!” your sister said
“Yes you do and you already showed her how proud you are” the small catalan said softly while you where holding onto your girlfriend coughing hard
“But not enough” Lucy said confused
“Plenty enough” you wheezed out as Georgia patted your back softly
“We need to celebrate” your sister suddenly exclaimed
“I already…” you started but get fixed by a glare from Keira, Alexia and Ona “… haven’t planned anything” you said quickly
“Mhm…. Thought so Bits…” Keira said eyebrow raised “… you know the tradition”
“Keiraaaaaa… come ooooon” you whined immediately knowing what she implemented
“Oh no… it’s tradition” the blonde smirked
“What?” Alexia asked confused
“Every time Bitsy came home with good grades at the end of a school year we would celebrate it and she was given the honor to pin it on the fridge” Keira smiled
“I’m not in middle school anymore” you continue to whine
“Oh I don’t care… university is school… you have good grades… tradition it is” the blonde English woman shrugged her shoulders and you knew you lost the battle – and the war.
“Ugh… so unfair” you huffed
“I’ll let you have a second cheat day this week Cari… this achievement is reason enough to eat whatever you want” Alexia pulled you into a side hug
“So generous” you grumbled “… you do realize I can eat whatever I want whenever I want”
“Oh I know Cariño…” the catalan smiled and you saw you were close to the magical line that would make her snap “… I also know you wouldn’t dare to do that because you knew I would let you run laps until your lung comes out”
“A second cheat day sounds amazing” you squeaked
“Thought so” Alexia smirked pinching your cheek
“Come on Bebita…. Let’s go home” Ona smiled grabbing your hand softly
“But G comes too…” you said as you let Ona pull you along
“Of course…” the catalan smiled and that’s how your bachelor’s degree ended up pinned to Lucys and Onas fridge making Lucy smile proudly every time she saw it.

note(s) hiiiiii :3 im so happy you like my blog!! i hope you enjoy this little but of fluff | i didnt know how to end it so it might seem a little abrupt
"Norm?"
Your voice bounces off the concrete walls and back into your ears. Your heels click with every step, your shoes are nice and shiny for the occasion. He wasn't home, at Chet's, or in the fusion room. A long shared hiding spot. You frown as you turn down yet another hallway. A sea of copy-pasted doors muddle together in your eyes as you huff. Maintaining your peppy smile you grip the bouquet tighter. When you noticed Lucy, but no Norm to accompany her you had to pause everything. A much disagreed decision which led to Overseer MacLain chastising you for your decision. It wasn't a good idea to make Vault 31 wait but you couldn't care less.
"Norman."
Your voice grows in pitch as you backtrack out of the hallway and into an identical one. One furthest from your wedding and who do you find sitting with his back to you? Cleaning the connection line of the vault floor.
"Oh! Norm, there you are."
He doesn't turn back and simply gives you a quick hand raise and a simple, "Busy. Be done soon."
You give a soft giggle and crouch down behind him.
"Norman MacLean. It's rude to ignore the person being married. Especially on their wedding day."
He finally turns at that. Almost as if he just realized who was talking to him. Your smile is unrelenting a stark contrast to the stony expression he gives you in return.
"Well, are you coming?"
You stand and extend your hand only to frown when he simply glances at your palm.
"What's wrong?"
You start to worry as he takes his time replying. You never felt this before, the feeling of your stomach becoming a giant knot. Like all your intestines became worms and got themselves tangled in each other. You did not like this feeling.
"You're making my stomach hurt, Norm. What's going on? You said you would be there when I met my partner."
"I got assigned cleaning duty."
You scoff and roll your eyes, a smile gracing your lips again as if you solved one of the riddles in the vault newspaper.
"It's my wedding day. I'm sure Hank would understand. You're my best friend after all, he would want you to be there with me."
Hands on your hips you can't help but notice as your cheeks start to sting with all this frowning and smiling.
"Best friend. Yeah, okay."
He repeated you again.
"Norman, what's going on? Are you sick?"
Bending over at the waist you place the cool back of your hand to his warm forehead and chew on your bottom lip. He feels fine. So why is he acting like this?
"I'm fine. It's nothing."
He swats your hand away. Using his hands he pushes himself to stand.
"Let's just go."
"No. Not until you tell me what's going on. Why you're acting like this. You've never repeated me twice. You only do that when you're upset. Three times and I would have to call security."
You try to give him a smile and laugh, but he just pushes past you. Hurrying you catch up to him as he goes to turn the corner out of the hallway. Reaching out you're able to grab ahold of his suit before he makes it.
"I don't want you to get married."
His words are rushed and he refuses to look at you. You give a small laugh hoping he was joking. You didn't go through all this... all this moving on just for him to confuse you.
"Norm, you said you were excited when I told you I was chosen."
"I lied."
I lied echoes throughout the corridor. Your grip tightens on his suit as you soak in his words.
"You told me-."
"I lied. About everything. It wasn't just practicing for me. None of it was practice. You need this, I know. Now you know so you can move on. What are you hoping they look like?"
He gives you a false smile and it looks out of place especially with you mimicking his stony expression from before. Dropping your hand you furrow your eyebrows and slam the palm of your hand into his chest.
"You... jerk! All this time I thought you wanted to be just friends. Thought you regretted everything. Fudge, Norm. Why didn't you tell me? I would have never gone to the council and convinced them to let me get married."
He gives you a genuine smile and you want to hit him again. Maybe yell at him some more until he's cupping your cheeks. His eyes are intense as they stare into yours.
"I know how important fulfilling your job is, I would never ruin that for you. I thought it would be easier if I didn't show up."
"That's stupid. You're more important to me than any job. I would be just as fulfilled and happy scrubbing floors."
His eyes search yours. His fingertips press into the soft flesh of your cheeks. You can tell he wants to lean in closer. Do as you always did ever since you were children. You don't give him the chance to back away. Not again. Leaning forward you rest your forehead against his, nose smushes against each other making it difficult to breathe. As if you could breathe clearly given the circumstances.
He takes the initiative this time and closes the minuscule gap between your lips. Years as the Overseers son gave him access to anything he ever wanted and you can tell he uses it to take care of himself.
"Strawberry?"
"They figured out how to make this stick that makes your lips soft and they gave me one to try."
You giggle and kiss his soft sweet lips again and again. Breaking away to smack your lips covered in the foreign flavor. After a good thirty minutes, you hear your name being called from a dot down the hallway.
"Lucy." You whisper as your heart starts to rise and you fear you might throw it up.
Taking your hand he squeezes it tightly before letting it fall beside the fabric of your wedding gear.
"I don't want to get married anymore, Norm. What do I do?"
"We explain to Lucy and see what she has to say. She's the older sister for a reason."

So here’s the thing
24 Aug: Lucy journals that she is dreaming and weak again, and it's noticeable enough for Arthur to worry 25 Aug: Lucy heard flapping at the window, had bad dreams, and wakes pale and with a sore throat (clearly was attacked that night) 30 Aug: Lucy responds to Mina’s letter about her wedding, says she is healthy, full of life, and no longer sleepwalking: “I think I have not stirred out of my bed for a week” 31 Aug: Arthur is so worried about Lucy that he asks Seward to come check on her. He says “she looks awful, and is getting worse every day.”
So options are: 1. Lucy was getting better but Dracula attacked again the night of Aug 30th (which is possible, it’s been five days since the last known attack, but Arthur’s description of her illness doesn’t sound like a sudden change) 2. Lucy was lying to Mina so as not to worry her, especially in her own time of happiness (which is pretty consistent with what we’ve seen so far)
I think both options can work and honestly both are sad. Finally hopeful and looking forward to a happy future only for a sudden change for the worse, or more of the suffocating propriety and emotional secrecy leading Lucy to isolate herself even more. There is one cool thing that comes of it though, which is that Arthur sees through it all, pushes past her reluctance to care for herself, and makes sure something is done about her illness. I just think it's really sweet that Lucy, who prides herself in being hard to read (especially by someone like Seward who kinda does it for a living) and literally practices hiding her emotions in the mirror, is in love with and being cared for by the man who sees and accepts all of her.

Ch 31: Wedding, Part 2
Tumblr media
Master List ~~ Previous Chapter ~~ WC: 2.9k
Dishes clinked and people laughed, passing bottles of champagne and Corellian wine beneath the twinkling glow of the lights strung across the Town Square. Night had fallen, offering a cool respite from the heat of day, and Luci rested a hand on Hunter’s thigh from her seat beside him, offering an apologetic smile as she caught the slight cringe of overstimulation on his face. He softened as he met her gaze, reaching up to loosen his collar a bit.
“It’s not pasta, but this is pretty delicious,” she quipped, stabbing a plump bite of fish from her plate and popping it into her mouth. “Sorry if it’s all a bit much for you, babe. We can jet after the toasts if you want.”
“When is that?” he asked, finishing his glass of water and scanning the table for another pitcher.
“Well, the brides will give their speeches, then some special dances, then some group dances, then the family members each offer a toast, then the rest of the night is just party time.”
“So like three hours from now?”
“No,” she laughed, wrapping her fingers around his chin affectionately. It rubbed him the wrong way. “Don’t be such a grump. We can still have fun without going overboard. I’m not trying to sneak one past you.”
He hummed in response, again forcing the smile across his face as his eyes scanned the crowd. Keeping alert for any possible threats (at least that was how he justified it) and simply observing the attendees. Luci slipped into a conversation with the girl beside her, but her hand remained on his thigh, and despite her seeming to be entirely distracted, it slowly slid upward and inward.
There she was. Lyra was at a table across the Square with a few other school employees and some individuals he didn’t recognize. She looked small in her seat, hands in her lap as she waited for her dinner plate to arrive. The servers hadn’t gotten to those tables yet, and Hunter watched as she smiled and nodded when the discussion roped her in, and yet the facade would fade just as quickly once the focus had moved away from her. He felt a pang, wishing things were different, wishing she hadn’t lied to him. There had been a serenity he hadn’t known to be possible when they were curled up together on her couch or sitting idly in the forest, gazing at the sun filtering through the leaves in perfect contentment. But it all felt like a lie now, which left a bitter taste in his mouth as well as a yearning in his chest.
Hunter suddenly scrambled to his feet, banging his knee on the table as he sprang up, loud and clumsy. Luci’s hand had continued moving up his thigh, dangerously close to his zipper, and he cleared his throat as many pairs of inquisitive eyes fixed on him. Luci grinned at him with lifted eyebrows, and his gaze flitted across the table before landing on the empty water pitcher.
“Refill,” he muttered, leaning over to pick it up before walking quickly away. Fortunately, the attention was shifted away from him as the brides began their speeches, thanking the guests and sharing the story of their love. Once he got to the edge of the group, he searched the area for any of the wait staff, instead spotting a long table in front of a restaurant that was covered with various service items. He swapped his empty pitcher for a full one, then turned to face the crowd again.
A small alley caught his eye, branching off from the main street nearby, and he took a few steps toward it, propelled by some unseen force. He stepped into the narrow space, tall buildings rising protectively on either side of him, and felt his shoulders relax a little as the noise quieted. A long, deep breath brought some refreshment, at least physically if not mentally, and he leaned against the wall, resting his head backward on the cool stone. Smooth clouds obscured any stars that may have been visible in the velvet sky, and their painted edges were aglow from the soft light of the moons. He found himself wishing he were up there.
The walk back to the table was slow and cautious, dodging the increasingly inebriated guests as they dove out of their seats to join the dancing. Hunter felt quite a bit better, although he gave Luci a stern look as he returned to his seat beside her. She nodded and winked in understanding, lifting both hands in the air as he replenished her water glass and then his own.
“So you know all those dance lessons…” she began.
“How could I forget?” he smirked, surprised what a breath of fresh air and some cold water could do for his mood.
“Oh, you loved them,” she teased. “Anyway, we’ve got a few of those coming up here, so it’s time to strut your stuff.”
“Lessons?”
“No, those types of dances, silly!”
“Ah. Got it.”
“Yeah baby!” she said, shaking her fist in an excitatory little gesture. “Let’s go show em how it’s done!”
She took his hand and they wove through the crowd to the dance area, which had ample space for each couple to move without bumping anyone else. The music began, a nearly identical tune to the one they had practiced in the studio. It was a fairly formal dance, requiring straight backs and sturdy frames of arms and hands, and Hunter moved through the steps effortlessly, guiding Luci in graceful turns and gentle sways. Not that she needed any guidance – she knew where they were going before he did, it seemed – and her eyes were constantly dancing across the crowd, satisfied that so many were watching.
“You’re so good at this,” she whispered, beaming up at him affectionately. “Everyone is looking.”
“That’s… a good thing?”
Her only response was a laugh, turning her head to the side as they stepped diagonally and he lifted his arm to twirl her into a slow promenade. When the music finished, the crowd clapped vigorously, cheering and encouraging the dancers to continue. Ketzya appeared at Hunter’s elbow, quickly followed by Araquella, both beaming in awe and appreciation.
“Where did that come from?!” Ketzya squealed, still clapping long after the applause had died.
“He’s a natural,” Luci gushed, leaning against Hunter and resting a possessive hand on his chest as she gazed up at him with extra soft eyes.
“Ohhh,” Ketzya said, realization dawning on her face as she gazed between the two of them. “So you’ve whipped him into shape, eh? Amazing work, and what a lucky girl you are.” She winked approvingly at Luci before looking back to Hunter, but she paused, going completely still, and looked off into the distance as she cupped a hand around her ear. “Do you hear that?”
“What?” His eyes flickered around the Square, apprehensive and vigilant.
“That’s the sound of hundreds of hearts breaking,” she answered earnestly, pressing the back of her hand to her forehead as she shook her head in somber disappointment.
Luci laughed, a bubbly, joyful sound as she gave Hunter a squeeze and smiled at Ketzya. “You’re adorable,” she said, and yet he could feel some elevation in her body signals that was hard to discern.
“Well you just enjoy every inch, I mean minute, of that man,” Ketzya affirmed, Araquella shaking her head behind her.
“Oh, I will,” Luci purred, giving Hunter’s lapel a little tug and making a kissy face at him. He didn’t bend to meet her lips.
The next dance was well under way, but a few other guests had bombarded the two of them, mostly to talk to Luci, who seemed to know everyone. Hunter was quickly tiring of being paraded around like a brightly-colored varactyl, and he found himself searching the crowd again. Nothing interesting. As the music faded into applause, the host announced a change in the type of dance, and Luci perked up immediately.
“Oooooh, come on babe. This is where we really shine.”
He followed her back to the open area as the song began, a more sultry number with a flirtatious melody that rose and fell. Luci fitted her body around his own as he flattened his hand across the middle of her shoulder blades, and she dipped her head back, arching her chest as she made a graceful sweep of the neck before coming back up to stand straight. They began to move, his foot following hers, long legs reaching for one another then retreating.
She flowed like satin, weaving an intricate pattern with diagonal steps and twists of her hips, and his hand clasped around hers as their heads came together. His only form of escape at the moment was to lose himself in the music, something that had been a pleasant surprise throughout their lessons as a way to  retreat from the cacophony of life. He closed his eyes for a moment as her forehead rested against his, then she spun in a flash as the melody swelled, his hands slipping down both her arms as she arched away from him, drawing one foot up her leg before twisting back to him and melting into him again.
Her arm draped over his shoulder as she kicked a leg back with a flourish before swinging it across his thigh as he slid his foot out behind him, sinking low as they shared a breath, faces close together. They slowly rose, arching toward one another as one, then she tore away from him, spreading her arms above her graceful steps as he matched her footwork from a foot behind. They came together. They spun in a blur. He dipped her with a single, strong hand behind her neck. It was living art, and they wove their way through the other couples, oblivious to everything else except one another.
And then it ended. Slightly winded, Luci beamed at him as he gave her the customary bow, leading her off the dance floor with cascading relief. She was immediately mobbed by even more of her friends who were squealing about how sexy and amazing and wonderful she was. The rest of the bridal party crowded in, and Hunter took advantage of the frenzy to slip away to their now-empty dinner table to take a long drink of water. His eyes began searching without his permission, and a jolt of electricity ran through him as he saw Lyra, staring at him from across the Town Square with absolute shock on her face that remained constant as her expression wavered through hurt and sadness. He could almost see the tears in her eyes from where he stood, and she bit her lip, dropping her head when it finally registered that he was looking at her. His hand tightened around his glass, gut roiling with inexplicable sensations.
“There you are!” Luci exclaimed, descending on him along with her crowd of admirers. “Everyone is raving about you, hot shot!” He was surrounded by eager guests asking questions and demanding dances, but Luci proudly announced that he was hers and hers alone. “You can’t make magic like that with just anyone,” she said cutely, pulling his hand into hers and entwining their fingers. “But maybe I’ll loan him out for some bribes,” she laughed. “Who’s got some good stuff to offer?”
He cringed, thoroughly repulsed now as she worked the crowd with her effervescent charm. They squawked at one another and laughed, the energy rising as the music continued behind them. When the song ended, the host announced the familial toast, and Hunter took the opportunity to seek another quiet respite in the calm alleyway as stories were shared, jokes cracked, and an infectious gratitude spread among the guests at the joyous occasion. Dancing and conversation continued for a little while longer, and he noticed that the unlimited cocktails had created quite a situation, with large herds of fairly drunk people staggering about, laughing and singing and pushing one another. The official festivities were over, so the atmosphere seemed to shift as the quieter, older, less rambunctious crowd began to disappear, leaving only the youthful partygoers. He returned to the table, where Luci and the girl beside her were refreshing their appearances, apparently.
“Free to go?” he asked brusquely as Luci fixed her cleavage. Why did he even need permission? It rankled.
“Yes, technically,” she said, turning to face him in her chair. “But… the brides and bridesmaids are having a bit of an after-party. Girls only.” She painted herself with an apologetic expression. “So I’m afraid I have to ditch you.”
“Not a problem,” he answered, trying not to sound too relieved. “Sleep sounds great.”
“Perfect,” she said happily, leaning in for a peck on the lips so quickly that he didn’t even have time to respond before she was swinging her purse onto her shoulder and up on her feet. She blew him a kiss and bounded after the brides and their cohort, heading for one of the tall buildings with a large rooftop bar.
Hunter let out a sigh, running a hand through his hair and heading for the path that would lead him to his cabin. His quiet, peaceful cabin in the quiet, peaceful woods. He passed groups of people, scanning them out of habit now, and his head jerked up more quickly than he’d have liked as he spotted Lyra again, in a group with her coworkers. Mullet Hanker was there, leaning on the building next to her with his arm spread luxuriously above her head, and he leaned over her as she shifted on her feet, stirring the drink in her hand with the little fruit skewer it had been garnished with. A serpent writhed in Hunter’s chest, and he clenched his jaw, continuing on his path until he drew near enough for their words to reach his ears.
“Ahhh, don’t be like that, Vetana. You know I’m just saving the best conquest for last,” Mullet laughed, oblivious to some of the looks of affront from the other women in the group, whom he assumedly had already “conquered”.
Lyra’s eyes were fixed on the ground, shoulders slumped as she sighed. “I know you think you’re funny, but you’re wasting your time.”
Mullet took a brash swig of his cocktail, gesturing with it carelessly as he argued. “You don’t get to tell me what to do with my time, sweetheart.”
“Please stop.” The quiet brokenness of Lyra’s voice kindled a raging fire in Hunter, and he stopped, watching the group, Mullet in particular, with sharp eyes.
“You’re mean when you’re drunk,” one of the secretaries laughed, pushing the man playfully. He leered at her, still smiling, and reached out to touch the tip of her nose with one finger.
“Does someone need a spanking?” he crooned, and she giggled, apparently equally inebriated.
Lyra took the opportunity to slip away between the buildings, and Hunter recognized her path as the one they’d taken during The Festival when they’d sought quiet amid the chaos and shared an intimate dinner at a tiny table. He knew where the alleyway emerged to meet the main road, and he began walking again at a quicker pace this time. When he arrived, he paused, glancing down the walkway and squinting in surprise at the fact that no one was there. He immediately ventured in a few steps, then veered to the right to see the rest of the alley. The group was still out in the open where the buildings gave way to the Square, but he spotted two figures in the middle of the stretch between his corner and the opposite end. Mullet was looming over Lyra again, his words echoing for Hunter to hear.
“You’ve strung me along enough. I know you’re just playing dumb,” he accused.
“I’m not,” Lyra protested, the quaver in her voice belying her fear. She turned and began walking away from him, but he grabbed her wrist and jerked her back to face him. She stood motionless.
But Hunter was no longer still. He was charging down the corridor, hot with rage.
“Oh look,” Mullet ridiculed, noticing the movement. “Your little admirer is jealous.” Lyra glanced over her shoulder, eyes flashing as she saw Hunter approaching. “Back off, nerf herder,” he called out, pushing her aside to face Hunter head-on. “If you know what’s good for you…”
He didn’t get another word out.
Hunter’s fist collided with his chin so hard that it snapped his head back and he crumpled to the ground, out cold. Lyra’s gasp was the only other noise, and she staggered a few steps away from the two of them, hands clapped to her mouth as she stood behind Hunter. He stared at the man at his feet, watching for any sign of motion. Then he also realized that for some inexplicable reason, he didn’t want to turn around.

Ch.1 : Meet Cute
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Norm Maclean loves his sister, and after Betty finds out about his discovery in vault 31, he is forced out into the wastelands to "find her"

Ch: 2
Tumblr media
Another day in an unloving wasteland, in an unloving life, and undignified exile. Getting adopted then expelled from the brotherhood of steel in 6 months had to be some kind of laughable record. Stalking through the desolate stretches of sand and broken down buildings put a hamper on my mood, but sitting alone in one of said buildings and finding some rations and a place to rest let my sour mood settle for a while. Taking the goggles from my eyes and laying them besides the palette, hand still on my hostler, I closed my eyes for a possible 30 minutes of sweet escape from the world surrounding me.
This slumber, of course, was interrupted by the sounds of approaching feet. An eye shoots open, the hand still resting lightly on my pistol tightens, readying to shoot an angry cannibal (or maybe a ghoul?) straight between the eyes. “Fuck off unless you want your brains as some fresh paint for these walls.” I bark, pointing my pistol at the entrance of the half destroyed structure. The footsteps stop, and a small noise seems to come from the entrance. I walk closer, pistol still aimed and ready, trying to sneak a peek outside the slanted door. I see someone dressed in all blue, yellow accents curving their suit and…
“Holy shit.” I whisper, not believing what I’m seeing for a moment. “A… vault dweller?” I lower my gun slightly as I continue to scan the man before me. He's slim, slight in his build, almost mousey. His hair is fluffed and he looks like hes actually most likely showered in the past week. “I thought all y’all were dead. What are you doing up here?” I question him, gun now less of a concern to keep up at all times.
“I-” The vault boy croaks before coughing, “My name is Norm. I’m looking for my sister.” He raises his hand up to his sides as he takes a very small step forward, showing his lack of weapons and threat to me as best he can. “Her name is Lucy, she has a suit with a 33 on it like me.” He continues to speak cautiously and slowly, as if trying to communicate with an animal. “I don't want trouble or to hurt you, I just want to know if you've seen her.” He looks at me, sincere and hiding his fear well.
I study his face. Hes admittedly quite cute, but that might be because he doesn't look like he's starving and rotting at the same time. His big brown eyes feel… trustable. Truly a unique trait on the surface, same as his uncracked lips and clean(ish) face. “I haven't seen your sister, vault boy.” He seems to deflate a bit, some of the hopeful energy he carries seems to vanish.
“Oh. Alright, then. Have a…” He looks behind me, into the sand filled, ramshackle building, “…palatable rest of your day.” He begins to walk backwards, and I lower my gun. He lets out a sigh of relief and turns around as I do so. He begins stomping through the sand away from me, but something makes me want him to stay.
“You know, a vaulty like you ain't gonna make it long alone out here.” I yell after him. “The only reason I didn't shoot ya is because I don't like killing people who ain't carrying no weapons.” I re-holster my gun, putting my hands on my hips as I watch him try to ignore me. “Not a lot of people are gonna be as kind, especially not to a vaulty like you.” He stops for a moment, turning to look at me in a mix of annoyance and fear. “That 33 might as well be a big ol target on your back.”
He turns to look at me fully, facing me as he seems to scan me “And why should I trust what you say?”
I shrug “Shouldn't, really. But if you want someone who don't kill for fun or food, I’m the best you got for miles.” Leaning against the door, I cross my arms. We stare at one another for a long while, him searching for answers in a purposefully cryptic face. “This is the only livable shelter for a long while, I’m willing to share as long as you promise not to steal any of my shit.” The deal comes out of the blue even for me, often I’m not willing to share my spaces but something about him seemed different. Maybe it was because he was a vaulty, their whole shtick was being harmless and wanting to help right?

Summary:
You were an inconsequential member of the Omatikaya clan who had failed your rites of passage once already. You were born to heal, not hunt or fight. So, why had the tsahìk designated Neteyam of all people to take over your training?
What business did the future olo’eyktan have mentoring you? But it was too late now. You should have known better than to fall in love with your mentor. - TO KNOW YOU AGAIN - {Neteyam x fem!Omatikaya OC} 18+ MDNI (Complete)
Summary:
“Do you remember our last night here? The night before my family left?” The warm, rumbling timbre of Neteyam’s voice washed over her.
“Yes,” Naia whispered. How could she forget?... She had replayed the memory of his lips over and over numerous times.
One corner of Neteyam’s mouth lifted in a small smile as his eyes tracked over the delicate bridge of her nose and over her steadily flushing cheeks. His gaze stopped to rest on her lips, “You gave me something that night. I think it's time I returned it."
Set 7 years after TWoW: An exploration of what if Neteyam had to leave a girl he was close to behind when his family fled to the reefs to seek refuge.

He lowered his face, his lips curling in a snarl, “I should kill you.” The English words were stilted as he spoke, “But I will not. A life for a life.”

Sunsets and footballers (Part 33)
Lucy Bronze x Reader (31) & Alexia Putellas x Character (5)
Masterlist (other parts here)
(Only a little piece of Alexia in here...)
((**Any theories on who Joe is, send me a DM xD**))
YFN woke around 8:30am, having a decent sleep after her long day. She’d slept the best she had done in a week, and the only explanation was the warm right-back who was now gone. It was a disappointing feeling, waking to feel her not there, yet was superseded by the feeling of peace and security that came with the conversation she’d had the night before with Lucy. Lucy. She’d be halfway to Barcelona by now. She rolled over and could still smell Lucy there as if she’d only left a few minutes ago. She must be so tired, she thought, hoping she’d be able to sleep on the plane.
She woke and had her shower, letting herself chuckle a little at Lucy’s blue toothbrush and made her way out to the kitchen to find a note from Lucy on the kitchen island.
Good morning, little one.
You have no idea how difficult it was to leave you in bed this morning.
I ordered breakfast for you for 9am. I hope I got the timing right and they don’t wake you up.
Have a great day, please; I know I will now that I’ve seen you.
Remember: I won’t have a phone until the end of today or tomorrow… and please also remember to cancel the company car.
PS: I love you, and don't worry, you were too tired to talk in your sleep last night.
Lucy x
God, that woman. She pulled the piece of paper to her chest and held it there, unable to contain her smile. She looked at the time. It was almost 9am. Lucy knew she only slept seven or eight hours a night and had, of course, timed it perfectly.
She checked her phone and the first thing she did was respond to Joe.
Joe: Which do you like best?
Joe had sent a few links to cars.
YFN: I’m sorry, Joe. Please disregard. No need for a car. Do you have time for a phone call this morning?
Joe: Copy that. I’ll call in ten.
She went back to her other messages and emails which mainly concerned the edits that her colleagues had done. One by one, she approved them to be posted to social media. This first round had been a test for many things, one being the editing following the collection of footage at the games. She’d expected there to be some need for notes or changes, but she didn’t find any. Joe really had chosen some talented individuals.
Lumos group chat: YFN: Morning all! First round was a success! Fantastic job, everyone. The footage we’ve collected is remarkable. I’m happy for all of these to be posted today. As for the interviews, I’ve reached out for players approval and will post them once I have them.
Again, fantastic work, and a reminder to ensure we’ve sent the personal videos and photos to the players for their own use.
Our goal for next round is to post real time recordings of the game, goals and significant events.
Any suggestions, feel free to let me know!
The group chat started responding eagerly as a knock came at the front door. YFN jumped until she realised it would be breakfast. She checked through the peep hole before she collected it.
Lucy had ordered her an acai bowl, juice, and more of the banana bread she’d loved from last night. She dug in, hoping Lucy had a chance to eat before training. Her phone started buzzing and she dropped her spoon to pick it up.
“Morning, Joe.”
“YFN! Good morning, how are you after yesterday? I imagine you slept well.”
“You’re not wrong there!” She laughed. “It took a lot more out of me than I realised, Joe! But on a positive note, I think it was a success.”
“I think you’re being a bit modest there! I’ve seen everything and I’m beyond impressed. Whatever you’ve done to prepare all week was excellent, just excellent! And your interview with the Arsenal and Man City players? Brilliant. I know it was thrown at you last minute, but I really liked the way it was more of a casual conversation than asking generic questions. It really brought out the characters of the players.”
“Oh, I agree. Even if I did have time to prep questions, I still would have let them talk about what they wanted and just steer them ever so gently within the lines we wanted. I’m also a big fan of interviewing multiple players at once. They bounce off of each other well, even if they are opposite teams.”
“I was going to mention that! It’s the first time opposition players have been interviewed after a match together, yes? I love the dynamic. As for the other footage… I want to scale this up already. Did you want to talk about extra people to cover more of the games?”
YFN could hear that Joe was excited and knew that she’d give her absolutely anything she wanted. But that’s not what this conversation was about.
“Actually, Joe, I wanted to talk to you about something else..”
“Fire away, anything you want.”
YFN explained her meeting Mark at the charity event, about the photographer with Mark at the game last night, and then how she was followed. There was a long period of silence at the other end until she sighed.
“I knew this would be an issue, I just hoped it wouldn’t happen until later on.” She admitted. “Firstly, they won’t hurt you. Think of them as paparazzi. Mark is competition of mine when it comes to business, and he uses his PIs to try and get controversial gossip to undermine my business and partnerships. Saying that, I’d really like to apologise to you for putting you in this situation. Like I said, I hoped we’d be much more established by the time they came after us.”
“That’s a relief to hear, Joe. I’m glad they’re just that and not lunatics. I’ve dealt with too many of those lately.”
“Yes, yes you have.”
YFN hesitated. There was still an unanswered question there. “Joe… what did Mark mean when he said you would bring controversy to the business if people knew you were involved?”
She knew it was a personal question, and fully expected her to respond by saying he was lying. But she didn’t, because she was Joe and she was an honest woman. YFN trusted her.
She gave another heavy sigh. “Okay… okay. I think you need to know. It’s going to be much easier to explain in person. Are you able to get on a flight to my house tonight?”
She wasn’t expecting that. She didn’t care where she lived, she would go. Half out of curiosity to meet the woman, and half for the mystery. “Of course. I can fly from London or Birmingham.”
“Okay, if you head back to Birmingham today, I’ll have my assistant send you flight details for a flight out of Birmingham tonight. You can stay with me a few days. This will be good to fully discuss our future plans together and lay bare my hand. I have to go into a meeting now, but I’ll see you tonight, YFN. Great work again!”
The call ended after their goodbyes and it just left YFN even more curious. She truly didn’t know the woman, and the next few days would certainly be interesting to say the least.
“Lucia.” The teasing voice came from behind.
Lucy turned around as Alexia wandered over to her at the stretching station.
“Why are you smiling at me like that?”
“Because I think your London trip went well, si?” Alexia held that teasing expression. She wasn’t wrong. Besides the long day and minimal sleep, she had been in the best mood she had been for days. Alexia stepped forwards and slapped her face lightly like a proud adult. “The grin is back.”
Lucy tried to get rid of it, but she just couldn’t. If anything, it got wider.
“Thank you for your help, I definitely feel a lot better.”
Alexia tilted her head, giving her a cheeky look that seemed to assume sex had made her this happy. Lucy rolled her eyes at that. They’d definitely gotten a lot closer in the past few days, having supported each other through their relationship issues. “It’s not what you think.”
Alexia’s expression said she didn’t believe her one bit. Her head stayed tilted, her expression cheeky and knowing, and her lips remained a more subtle version of the Cheshire cat.
Lucy laughed and shoved her lightly. “I promise! We just talked and sorted everything out.”
“You feel better?”
“Oh, yes. You get to meet her in six days when she comes to Barca.”
“I look forward to meeting her..”
It made Lucy happy to see Alexia smiling. “And how goes your woman?”
Her smile faltered a little. “We have training-”
“Don’t you back out now. You had a plan.”
“Si, si. But we need to train and the game is Saturday.”
“Saturday afternoon.” Lucy clarified. “So there’s no reason you can’t go on Friday night..”
Alexia thought on it for a few seconds.
“Alexia, Lucy!” Jonatan reminded, pointing to the mats.
They took the hint and began stretching themselves out, both starting with their bad knees. Lucy’s felt much better after YFN had massaged it the night before, and she swear she could have come just from the release of pressure and feel of her hands on her. If only they’d wandered further up-
She caught herself and made herself stop. She was at training. She looked at Alexia who was now rolling her calf and thinking still.
“Would you like me to come?”
Alexia turned to Lucy, surprised. They didn’t usually do things together like that unless they were in a group, but perhaps it was time for that to change.
“Okay,” she said after another few seconds of thought.
“We won’t get drunk or do anything stupid. We’ll just go and have a chat and dinner and see if she turns up.”
“She…might not.”
“And that’s more than okay. We’ll have a good little date out, regardless, yeah?”
“Okay, Lucia. But only if you tell your girlfriend so she doesn’t break her phone if she sees photos.”
Lucy gave a sheepish smile. “She’s a lot better with her emotions than I am.”
“She sounds perfect for you.”
“Are we talking about YFN?” Kiera asked as she walked over and joined in.
“Si.”
“I haven’t met her yet, but Leah says they’re pretty adorable together.”
“I’m right here.” Lucy reminded.
“I know.” Kiera said, giving a little head pat. “But it’s more fun to talk over you.”
Lucy appreciated their relationship and how there wasn’t any jealously, they truly did want the best for each other.
“Are we meeting her this weekend?”
“Who are we meeting this weekend?” Mapi asked as she and Ona joined their ever-extending stretching line. Lucy looked at Ona who seemed curious at their conversation. She hadn’t had the opportunity to talk to her yet as she had arrived late, but she would. She made sure to give her a little smile, knowing it wouldn’t make up for how distant she’d been the past few days.
“Lucy’s girlfriend.”
Ona pouted. She wasn’t unaware of her because she must have seen Lucy’s posts on Instagram, but she still couldn’t help the look of disappointment on her face.
“She’s coming this weekend?” Mapi asked, completely unaware of Ona’s feelings next to her.
“Si,” Alexia said, sharing a look with Lucy that said she’d also noted Ona’s expression. Alexia changed the topic back to their strategies and training, a smart Captain manoeuvre around the previous topic.
YFN received her flight details not long after she’d finished her breakfast. Joe was definitely efficient. She was originally worried at her late flight time, 7pm, until she realised where it was to. Edinburgh. If she’d driven, it would have taken her over eight hours, so she appreciated the flight. Realising she had time to spare, she took her time to shower and pack up before messaging a few fellow Aussies about popping by.
Caitlin: See you soon, chicken! Warning: Kyra seems eager to see you. She’s in her annoying mood.
Erin Cuthbert: All good to pop by, bring snacks and Emma will fall in love with you.
Mackenzie: See you soon, I’ll let the girls know.
Caitlin had introduced YFN to Mackenzie Arnold, Captain of West Ham and goalkeeper of both West Ham and the Matildas during their dinner, and she hadn’t had a chance to see her play during the round so she figured she’d stop by to network and become more of a regular around the players.
She stopped by Chelsea first located south west of London at Cobham as it was the closest. Erin was right, Emma did appreciate the snacks, though she had to sneak some to the players when she wasn’t looking. She had a good catch up with the players and before that, she actually had a fantastic conversation with Emma Hayes. Emma was the manager for Chelsea, notorious for being hard, yet caring for her team. She was one of the best managers in the sport and had led the team to four consecutive WSL victories. When she spoke, it was slow but so excellently worded that everybody stopped to listen, including YFN even as they were alone on the sidelines.
“What you’re doing is so important for these players.” Her accent was rich and unapologetic. “I can’t say I’ve met Joe but I’ve heard of her, and she’s going to be the best thing to happen to this sport in a long time. If she’s chosen you to lead the way, then I know you must be excellent at what you do.”
YFN took the compliment with a smile. They’d been standing on the sidelines, Emma pointing out how they trained and worked strategies and weaknesses. It was all so interesting to her, and she assumed that Emma had appreciated her interest and questions from the compliment she’d just given her.
“I appreciate that, thank you Emma. You don’t think my lack of knowledge in the sport is a weakness?”
“Nah, not at all. I think that’s one of the reasons she chose you. You bring a new perspective. I saw the interviews you did with the other teams, Arsenal, United and such. They were a breath of fresh air to be fair. I’m sick of arguing with media.”
YFN chuckled. “Are they that bad?”
“Oh, sure. And just asking stuuupid fucking questions.”
Emma yelled advice at one of the players across the pitch who put their hand up in acknowledgement.
They spoke for a bit longer, really getting into some deep-seeded issues with media, and needed improvements for the womens game when one of the assistant coaches blew the whistle. Training break. Somehow, Emma had been so inspired by their conversation that she suggested YFN talk to the girls before they had a debrief. She obliged.
YFN had met most of the girls: Millie Bright, Erin Cuthbert, Hannah Hampton, Zecira Musovic, Jess Carter, Niamh Charles, Fran Kirby, Jess Fleming, the list goes on. She was actually quite surprised to see that she only hadn’t met a few of them. Emma gave her a lovely introduction and YFN made herself comfortable on a stool up the front as she dove into a conversation with the group about media and how to make them more comfortable. They had a lot of suggestions, even Emma looking impressed at their eagerness. They spoke for a good half an hour before YFN wrapped it up before it turned into too much banter and ate into Emma’s time. She’d written a lot of notes down and made sure to tell them to message her or come over for a chat at a game anytime.
With that, she took her leave for West Ham over at Chadwell Heath by 11am. Mackenzie was the first to greet her as they were on their lunch break. She was much taller than YFN who had to reach to the sky just to hug her, but she bent down for her.
“I’m used to it with this one!” She’d said, pointing to Kirsty Smith, her partner. Kirsty was Scottish and they’d been dating for over two years. Mackenzie had that sarcastic, Australian sense of humour YFN missed, though she was so soft around Kirsty. It made her think of Lucy.
They let her join for lunch, introducing her to the staff and players. YFN made sure to say hello to their manager, Rehanne Skinner for Emma just as she’d requested. There were only a handful of female managers in WSL, Emma had pointed out, and they supported each other. She also mentioned that Rehanne was a great manager, which was a big compliment from her.
The West Ham team seemed a lot more relaxed than the Chelsea environment, all with their own ambitions and goals. She was introduced around, having a good chat to the team and enjoying her catch up with the young Riko Ueki again who seemed excited to see her. Her most entertaining conversation, however, was with Hawa Cissoko who was a strong French and Malian defender, and notorious for her red cards. She was very vocal about racial abuse and asked YFN to bring awareness to it when possible.
YFN loved the dynamic of the West Ham team, there was such a mix of different nationalities and personalities and she especially appreciated Mackenzie and how she took care of them like a mother bird, especially the shyer players like Riko who was introverted and still a little shy speaking English at times. After joining them for their Subway lunch, and talking around the group for just over an hour, she was off to her final stop.
Her Arsenal girls were at the end of their training day, definitely slowing down and ready for the day to end. Kyra, however, was as young and eager as ever, especially when she saw YFN. Jonas drove YFN down to the field in a golf cart, dropping her off and she barely exited the vehicle when the young midfielder landed on her back, limbs wrapped around her like a spider. YFN was only small and barely managed to stay upright.
“I was told you’re in an annoying mood.”
“That’s rude.”
YFN laughed and hugged the limbs around her. “How are you, little sis?”
“Great! Can I ask you a favour before the girls get here?” She asked into her ear, her chin resting on her shoulder.
“Sure, mate.”
“At the game this weekend…can you ask for Courtney and I to be interviewed together?”
YFN paused. She hadn’t even thought about interviews yet.
She continued. “I don’t care if it’s in a group of us.”
“I can do just you two alone..” She offered. Thinking about it, it would be good to do a young player interview, and then a similar one with older players like Kim Little and Aileen Whelan.
“Can you?!” She squeaked and dropped off of her back as Katie jabbed her in the ribs.
“Chicken!” She was enveloped by the girls.
“Ew, you smell like Chelsea mate.” Caitlin said, scrunching up her nose fakely. YFN rolled her eyes.
“Calm down, mate.”
“We’re pretty much done with trainin’ today,” Katie said as she swung an arm over her shoulder and pulled her along as they began walking back towards the building. “I spoke to Kim and the girls are all keen for a chat.”
Although she didn’t have a favourite team, it was becoming more and more difficult not to as Arsenal had a lot of her heart. The players were all so free to be themselves, and she knew a lot of that was due to Kim and Katie who were the leadership within the team. They made sure it was a safe space and everyone could not only work hard but have fun also. Her chats with the group was more like a night out at town and she had to steer the conversation back to relevance a few more times than with the other teams that day. They all got along well, yet they all also had their little clicks that overlapped a lot. Beth and Viv. Beth, Jen and Steph. Katie and Caitlin. Caitlin, Steph and Kyra. Kyra and Alessia. Alessia and Katie. Alessia and Vic. She was caught unawares by Leah also being there, though she knew she shouldn’t have been surprised. Leah was already back up and running with the team, just not training fully yet. When she saw YFN, she came over for a polite hug and a few pleasantries. YFN could see she wanted to talk about Jordan, but they were too swamped by the eager girls wanting to talk to YFN about interviews, photos and such. She gave her an apologetic smile and made her way around the group for a few hours, or to be more precise, she sat in the same spot as the girls rotated through.
By 2pm she called it, saying goodbye to the team and collecting more than a few hugs on her way out. Her favourite though was the little head taps by Steph.
YFN was loading her work bag into the car when she heard a voice behind her.
“Do you think she’d be mad if I stopped by tonight?”
She turned around to see Leah looking like she needed some advice. “Do you two not have a day to catch up organised?”
“This Friday..”
YFN understood all too well why she didn’t want to wait any longer. “Leah… talk to her. Just talk. If Friday is too far away, then ask her for something sooner.”
“I don’t want to push her. Besides, you can be mediator tonight? That will ease tension a little.”
“Ah, that’s why you’re asking me. Well… I’m not sure if she’d be mad, however I won’t be there tonight.”
“Oh! Spain already?”
“No, Lucy was here last night. Edinburgh actually.”
Leah’s eyebrows shot up. “Lucy was here last night?!”
“Just for a few hours.”
“That’s why you look so happy.” She smirked.
“Don’t do that.” She laughed. “We just had a few things to sort out, as you know.”
“All sorted?”
She nodded. “Better than ever. I’m going to Barca on Friday.”
“What time are you flying out tonight?”
“7pm?”
“Okay… okay I can wait until Friday. I don’t want to mess this up.”
YFN gave her a supportive hug. “You won’t, Leah.”
YFN’S bag was packed for a few days, the peace lily Lucy had gifted her was watered, she’d cuddled with Blu and was just sitting down to an early dinner with Jordan as there came a knock at the door. They looked at each other confused. YFN shrugged and got up. She checked through the peep hole and sighed before opening the door.
“Turns out I can’t wait until Friday…” Leah said apologetically, a bouquet of flowers in her hand.
YFN bit her lip, thinking, and then stepped to the side. She wondered what Jordan’s reaction would be. Leah stepped in slowly and YFN closed the door behind her, leading her to the dining table.
“Who was it?” Jordan asked and turned around, freezing on the spot. Her eyes widened. She hadn’t expected that. Leah stood awkwardly with the flowers and YFN wanted to disappear.
“Uh…” Jordan struggled to find words.
YFN tried to break the tension. “Do you like ravioli, Leah?”
Leah nodded. “Yeah.”
“Okay…I’ll get you a bowl.” She looked at Jordan and gestured to Leah as if to say ‘be nice’.
“They’re pretty.” Jordan said.
“They’re for you.”
Jordan stood and YFN watched as she walked over and took them from Leah, their fingers softly grazing over each other. Both reacted physically to it. “I’ll put them in water. Take a seat.”
Leah sat down as Jordan went to the kitchen to find a vase. “What’s she doing here?!”
“I don’t know.” YFN whispered back. “She said she couldn’t wait until Friday, remember?”
“What am I supposed to say?”
YFN looked at the clock. “We need to go in thirty minutes, can we just talk about football, then you two can do all the talking you want without me.”
Dinner was mainly talking about their days, and YFN’s experiences around the different clubs. It started off awkward, but definitely became a lot more casual. Like roommates having dinner. YFN didn’t realise, but Jordan appreciated her there for the awkward part. Now when she dropped her at the airport, they would have avoided most of that.
Leah helped Jordan clean up, working together at the sink to wash and dry as YFN collected her belongings for the airport. The car ride was funny, Leah in the back listening silently to Jordan telling YFN to be safe and message her if she needed anything. Jordan had been extra protective since hearing about Mark and his friend, as well as Kristie being a maniac as per usual. Leah hadn’t seen that side to Jordan much, and she listened with interest. They dropped her at the airport and YFN gave Jordan and apologetic look before she hugged her, whispering in her ear.
“She loves you, Dory. Just be patient and be honest with what you need, okay? I’m a phone call away.”
Jordan’s hug tightened, nodding into her shoulder.
“Also, if she doesn’t sleep in your bed, she’s more than welcome to sleep in mine.”
Jordan scoffed and pulled away with a grin, slapping her arm.
“What? You have needs.”
She turned to Leah and gave her a hug and Jordan jumped back into the drivers seat. “She’s just as nervous as you are, Leah. Communicate, okay?”
“Thanks, YFN. Fly safe.”
“You’re welcome. And I’ll definitely try.”
The flight was short, barely an hour, and unfortunately it was too dark to see Edinburgh as they descended through the clouds. YFN hadn’t known what to expect once she arrived, the only note in her flight details being ‘private car hire to meet at airport.’ She exited with her smaller carry-on suitcase and immediately saw the sign with her name on it. The driver looked professional in his suit and insisted on taking her luggage. He introduced himself as David and was a polite, middle-aged gentleman who guided her into the backseat of the dark Mercedes before taking his place in the driver’s seat.
“How long is the drive?”
“Just over an hour, ma’am.”
An hour?!
“Do you know Joe?”
“I do. I’ve worked with her for quite a few years now.”
“How would you describe her?”
“She’s a smart businesswoman. A great mother. A role-model. A creative genius. She’s kind and very well read.”
“Did she…tell you anything about me?”
“Oh, I know all about you, ma’am. It’s wonderful what you are doing together. My daughters are still young and love playing football. We need this exposure, so they have a better pathway and more incentive.”
He knew all about her? What they were doing?
“Do you know why I’m here?”
David paused. “Yes, ma’am.”
“Is there anything you can tell me before we get there?”
“That’s really not for me to say, ma’am. It will all make sense when we arrive.”
What was this big secret?
They spoke a little more during the drive, YFN a little tired as they passed the 9pm mark. Eventually they turned off of the bitumen road and onto a long gravel driveway. She watched as a large estate came into view, still very much lit up, the warm lights escaping through the many windows of the large stone building. If she had to describe it, she’d say it was almost gothic, though repurposed to suit an English ambiance.
David stopped at the front of the steps leading up to the entrance. He insisted that YFN go ahead, claiming he’d take her bag to her room for her.
She walked up the steps, not knowing what she was getting herself into and as she raised her hand to knock, the door swung open. A man stood there, looking just as neat and tidy as David.
“YFN, lovely to meet you. Welcome. My name is Benjamin, and I’m the estate manager. Please come in.”
YFN smiled and introduced herself, entering and found her eyes were immediately wandering, looking up down, all around at the architecture of the place. Although an old building, it had modern refurbishments and she couldn't help but appreciate it, but also wonder at its cost. Where was she? Did Joe have some sort of link to royalty? Nothing else made sense. Until it did.
“You made it.” YFN turned to the voice she’d heard several times on the phone and whatever she was expecting, it wasn’t that. Her mouth physically dropped.
It all made sense now. The company. The secrecy. The controversy. The fact that they’d never met before. Why she’d hired her, a writer, in the first place, of all people.
Holy shit. It can’t be.

Thursday, December 31; 12:00 PM - Home.
- What if your new friends don’t like me?
- Mapi, that’s enough.
- No, seriously, I don’t know them and they don’t know me either, remember?
- You’ve got nothing to worry about, I said, rolling my eyes for the umpteenth time.
Since we woke up, she’s been second-guessing her decision to accept my New Year’s invitation. She had a whole week to think it over, and now she’s reacting. She was so enthusiastic at first. Now I’m getting all these “Are you sure?” and “What if…?” questions. I don’t think I can take much more.
- Anyway, it’s too late to back out now, I replied calmly.
- Pff... Are you almost done packing your suitcase?
- Yeah, I’m good.
- Are you going to tell me who all these gifts are for?
- You’ll find out soon enough. Are you ready? We’ll be leaving shortly.
- I’ve been ready since yesterday, she chuckles. I think you’re the one we should be asking.
- I should have everything.
I’ve checked at least three times to make sure. Since I won’t be coming back to Barcelona, I need to make sure I don’t forget anything. My next return could be months away or just a week.
- Do you really think we made the right choice? We could always stay here.
- Stop it, my friends are great. You’ll love them just as much as they’ll love you, I’m sure of it.
- So, how’s it going to work, then?
Even though I’ve explained it to her a hundred times, I think it reassures her to hear it again. I still wonder why she’s so anxious. I’m sure everything will go just fine.
- Alexia and Alba are landing at practically the same time as us. We’ll wait for each other and then take a taxi together to Leah’s place. That way, you’ll get to know my roommate ahead of time. She’s really excited to meet you.
- Hmm... Anyway, I don’t have a choice, do I?
- Nope, I giggled. It’s time to go. Hector must be waiting for us.
She grabs her things without much enthusiasm. I laugh as I follow her out. Her suitcase is small compared to mine. We say goodbye to Samuel and Sofia, who were waiting for us at the door. My mother, Marcus, and Joan had already left around ten this morning to visit friends who live a few hours away. I got up at nine on purpose to say goodbye to Joan. It wasn’t hard since I was already awake.
- Have a great time, girls, Sam and Sofia wish us.
- Thanks, have a great evening too.
I give them one last hug as they thank me for the gift I gave them. It wasn’t much, but I wanted to mark the occasion. They leave at the same time as we do since no one will be home. I’m glad they can enjoy the rest of their day with family. As for Hector, he still has a bit of work to do, driving us to the airport. The return is close now.
Thursday, December 31; 4:00 PM - Manchester Airport.
I stretch and yawn loudly, to Mapi’s amusement. I need to stretch my legs after the two-hour flight. I slept really well, even with Mapi’s presence. Shay greeted me as we got off the plane. Mapi can’t believe I know a girl like her. She gives me a playful shove after we pass her, still glancing back.
- Goodness. Why do you always attract the prettiest ones? she laughs.
- You can have her, I say with a smile, knowing her tastes. She’s just friendly, that’s all.
- Uh-huh. It’s true you’re saving yourself for Bronze, she teases back.
I roll my eyes, keeping my smile, not responding to avoid fueling her idea. My only hope is that she’ll behave in front of my friends tonight. No one knows about my relationship with my boss. I’ve given her enough pointers on what to avoid saying or doing. I don’t know why, but knowing her, I probably should’ve avoided it. She might do the exact opposite just to mess with me. Her arm drops as we reach the airport. We’ve barely passed the arrival barriers when a new brunette practically leaps onto me. I laugh as I feel her legs wrap around my waist, forcing me to support her by the thighs to avoid a spectacular fall.
- I missed you sooo much! she exclaims, her voice rising into a high pitch at the end.
- I missed you too, guapa!
I glance to my side where Mapi seems to have trouble processing what she’s seeing, from what I can tell. These next few days will be very enlightening for her. She’ll probably understand why these exceptional people make me want to stay here. Especially Alexia, who remains one of my favorites because of her persistence. She somehow managed to break through my physical barriers with her tactile nature.
Her voice goes high-pitched at the end. I smile, noticing Mapi’s puzzled expression beside me. She certainly didn’t expect me to accept such an embrace from anyone other than her. She’s going to understand a lot over these next few days.
- You must be Mapi? I hear despite being muffled by Alexia. I’m Alba Putellas.
- That’s me, and I know who you are, Bonita, replies my best friend.
Mapi’s trademark tact hasn’t changed. As if remembering her presence, Alexia finally lets go of me. I’m barely surprised when she hugs Mapi next. Mapi seems slightly awkward at first but accepts the contact out of politeness. I take advantage of their meeting to greet Alba in turn.
- Good to see you again, Princess. Glad to be back where it all began?
- Princess, huh? Mapi interjects before I have a chance to reply. Why don’t you ever tell me things like this? They’ve got you figured out, she laughs.
- Should I tell them how you were acting a few hours ago so you don’t start? I jokingly threaten.
- I think that’s enough, she says, pulling a face. By the way, what time is it? Is it normal that I’m starving?
- Four o’clock, but it must be the jet lag, comments Alexia.
- Yeah, that’s exactly it. Good thing I came prepared, right?
- Awh, you’re the best anyway.
I smile, digging into my bag to pull out some cookies I grabbed at the last minute in the kitchen. I expected she’d be hungry. I was just like her on my first trip here. She munches on them as we head to the baggage carousel to collect our luggage. Alba and Alexia have already retrieved theirs, which means they landed well before us. Once we’ve all got our bags, we head out. Alexia had reserved a taxi to take us to Leah and Alessia’s place. The taxi is late, making Mapi grumble, who now, instead of being hungry, is cold. I had warned her there’d be a big temperature difference between Barcelona and here, but she didn’t listen. From what I can see, it hasn’t snowed too much yet. To our relief, the taxi finally arrives, shutting my best friend up. Alba sits up front while I find myself sandwiched between my two friends in the back seat. I regret my spot when they start chatting with each other the whole way. At least I don’t have to worry about them getting along, though I had very little doubt. I knew everything would be fine. Thankfully, the trip was short. Leah and Alessia live just outside downtown in a spacious house, not too big and not too small. Alba takes care of paying the taxi while we unload our bags from the trunk. Leah herself opens the door before we even have to ring. I’m at the front of the group, so I’m the first to hug her.
- Hey, Princess, I didn’t know you were so sentimental, she laughs. You’re slipping in my book.
- Be grateful you’re getting a hug from her, I had to work hard to get the first one, comments Alexia.
- Seriously! You wouldn’t believe how long it took me to get the first one, Mapi chimes in.
- Hey, you two, I can manage you separately, but if you team up, this isn’t going to work.
They exchange a knowing look that tells me I’m going to regret bringing them together. In the end, the one who’s going to be jealous will probably be me. They get along even better than I imagined. I move forward when Leah invites us in. Alessia arrives shortly after we enter to greet us as well.
- Are we the first ones? Alba asks.
- Yeah, Patri and Claudia should be here soon, Leah replies. They said they’re picking up Maya and Ella on the way.
- Owh, that’s a lot of names to remember, Mapi comments.
I smile, understanding her on that point. Not long ago, I barely knew half of them, but I eventually learned everyone.
- There aren’t that many, Alexia reassures her.
- Maybe, but at the same time, Ona never talks to me about you guys, she retorts.
- Are you kidding me? I exclaim, offended.
- OK, how about I give you a tour of the house? Alessia suggests to avoid our debate.
- Good idea, let’s do that, Alexia agrees, not without teasing us.
We follow Alessia through the house. We start in the large living area we’re already in. It combines the living room and dining room, along with the kitchen in the back left corner. This layout creates a big, well-divided space. The decor is neither too old nor too modern. It’s a lot like the house I grew up in. We continue upstairs where we bring our luggage. She shows us the bathroom, the toilets, then the three main bedrooms, and two smaller guest rooms. She explains that there will be four rooms with three people each tonight.
- Well, I guess the three of us will be together, Alexia says. Is that okay with you, Alessia?
- Yes, yes, of course. Whatever you want.
She lets us choose between the two guest rooms, even though they’re practically identical. A mattress has been added to each room, leaving little space for our stuff, but with some organization, we manage. Alessia leaves us to help the other with the preparations. We thank her before she disappears downstairs.
- Want to share a bed? Mapi suggests. I mean, if you don’t mind, Alexia.
- No problem, she replies. You’ve known each other longer, so it’s only natural.
- Ona?
- We’ve been sharing a bed for almost two weeks. One more night won’t bother me.
- So it’s settled, she concludes.
I silently thank Mapi for her suggestion. She’s saving me from a tricky situation. I love Alexia, but I’m not ready to share a bed with her. That’s still a boundary for me. Before joining the others, we finish bringing up the rest of our things. Well, mostly Alexia’s and mine since Mapi doesn’t have as much as we do. She still comes down with us to take Alba’s things, which we put in Leah’s room as requested.
- You could’ve told me Alexia was so gorgeous, Mapi comments once we’re alone. Do you think I’ve got a chance with her?
- No, forget it, I giggled. I already told you she has a girlfriend and it’s serious. I didn’t bring you here to hit on my friends, I frowned.
- I was joking, she giggles. But still, what a shame. She must be a heartbreaker... Just like you, it seems.
- Really? Why do you say that?
- Didn’t you see how Alessia was eyeing you?
- What? Alessia? I laugh. Are you out of your mind?
- Didn’t you notice? she’s surprised. I’m telling you, she’s got a crush on you! Pay more attention when you’re with her.
- If you say so...
We stop talking when Alexia returns from Leah’s room. She smiles at us as she approaches.
- Everything good?
- Yep, we can go down and help the others.
And that’s what we do. The conversation with Mapi leaves me a bit puzzled, though. I would’ve liked to keep talking about it so she could explain how she came to that conclusion. I’ll pay more attention; maybe I’ll figure it out myself.
When we get downstairs, we find a completely transformed living room that we had barely recognized earlier. Leah and Alba have totally changed it by moving the couches and some furniture to create more space. They’re currently adding a table and chairs for tonight.
- "Alessia is in the kitchen if you’re looking for her," someone says.
We thank them and head to the kitchen, where we find Alessia busily working at the stove. Alexia immediately volunteers to help her. As for Mapi and me, to avoid overcrowding the kitchen, Alessia suggests we take care of the drinks in the meantime, which delights Mapi to no end.
- "The garage door is here," Alessia shows us at the entrance. "Everything’s in the car trunk. Just put whatever you can in the fridge."
- "For the alcohol, I’ve set up a table here," Leah tells us, not far away.
- "Got it, we’ll handle that."
Everyone goes back to their tasks as Mapi and I head to the garage. It’s a very well-organized space, divided into three areas. The first area near the door has a lot of storage cabinets and even a collection of wine bottles that we definitely don’t have permission to touch. On the other side, there’s a workshop space that’s just as orderly. In the middle, there are two parking spaces, one of which is empty, presumably because their parents are using the car since they’re not here. We don’t waste any time and open the trunk, which is indeed full of various bottles. Since most people stayed in Manchester, we agreed that Leah and Alba would handle the shopping and we’d split the bill among the participants tonight. All we had to do was bring the money and list our preferences to make sure everyone was happy.
- "Wow, there’s enough here to really get hammered," comments Mapi. "Beer, vodka, tequila, Jack Daniel's..." she lists off as she sees them. "They thought of everything!"
- "Help me out instead of snooping!"
- "Yeah, yeah, easy there, mini-commander."
- "Shut up, idiot," I say with a small smile.
She mocks me while balancing several bottles in her arms. We start by filling the kitchen fridge, then the garage fridge that Leah showed us. After that, we set up the alcohol on the table in the living room, preparing the cups that go with it. For what we can’t store, we place them next to the garage fridge to refill it as needed. When we return to the kitchen, the girls have finished preparing the meat platters. We agreed to have a raclette grill, as it was the simplest and least troublesome option given our group size. All we had to do was prepare the platters, as the butcher had already cut the red and white meat. Alessia added some salads and sauces like mayonnaise and ketchup to go with it. Another raclette machine is supposed to be brought by Patri. Speaking of her, they just arrived, right as we finished the final preparations. Leah and Alba had time to change in the meantime. I’m surprised to see that they all made the effort to wear a dress tonight. Now it’s our turn to get ready for the party. Maya and Ella join us as we go upstairs. I learned that they’re from here, like Patri and Claudia. I also learned that the only person not coming tonight is Misa, who already had plans. I don’t know her very well, so it doesn’t really bother me. In a few minutes, Alessia’s room turns into a real mess. Six girls just invaded her space with a ton of clothes.
- "How about this?" I ask for their opinion, showing a pair of black jeans and a shirt.
- "Ugh. Are you kidding?" says Mapi. "Good thing I brought you some clothes."
Oh no… I’m already dreading this just from hearing that sentence. I knew she would bring me things without asking. I already regret it just seeing her pull out my navy blue dress with a long V-neckline. I love wearing it, but it wasn’t at all what I had in mind for tonight. She holds it up to the others, who gasp just at the sight of it. The back is covered in lace. As for the length, it reaches mid-thigh, like almost all the dresses Mapi managed to make me buy.
- "Oh my God!" exclaims Alexia. "It’s gorgeous! You have to wear it!"
- "Really?" I say, groaning.
- "Absolutely!" adds Ella. "It must look amazing on you!"
- "It looks incredible on her," agrees Mapi. "And don’t forget the heels, right?"
She says this while dangling the matching stilettos on her finger. I hate her so much right now. It’s like she chose my outfit without asking for my opinion.
- "I’m sure it’ll look great on you," comments Alessia.
- "Of course it’ll look good on her. Sexier than this and you die, right Batlle?" she says, slapping my butt.
I glare at her, knowing exactly what she’s trying to do. She’s trying to prove she’s right about Alessia.
- "Come on, go put it all on," urges Alexia.
She hands me everything and practically throws me out of the room, leaving me no choice but to pick another outfit. I sigh as I head to the bathroom to change. At least Mapi had the sense to think of everything. She brought me a pair of tights. She’s not my best friend for nothing. She knows I hate wearing a dress without tights. When I’m ready, I return to the room, and it’s no surprise that my outfit is approved. Then it’s Alexia’s turn, followed by Mapi and Alessia to change. Everyone has put on a dress, so I feel somewhat reassured. Mapi hasn’t had any trouble fitting in with my new friends so far. I’m glad she gets along with everyone. Then again, she’s never been unsociable, quite the opposite. I still wonder why she was so anxious. She especially gets along well with Alexia. My best friend’s extravagant personality blends perfectly with Alexia’s good mood. For the next part of the preparations, we return to our room to do our makeup. It’s impossible to do it in Alessia’s room, where we’d all be crammed.
- "Don’t you think Alessia has a thing for Ona?"
- "Stop with that," Mapi.
- "No, she’s absolutely right," agrees Alexia. "I wanted to talk to you about it before we left, but Bronze came too quickly. Even though your exchange was intense, she seemed to like that you’re lesbian."
- "Aha!" exclaims Mapi. "See!"
- "Yeah, yeah, whatever!" I roll my eyes.
Alexia teases us. Seeing that I’m not thrilled with the conversation, she changes the subject to our plans for the end of the evening. She still hasn’t changed her mind about joining her girlfriend. She’s very careful when she talks about it, knowing how I reacted in the messages. She must have realized I wasn’t too keen on the idea.
- "What’s the plan?" Mapi asks excitedly.
I had filled Mapi in. If I leave, it won’t be without her, which Alexia completely understands. Although I know she can handle herself alone, there’s no way I’m leaving her here.
- "If Alba finds out, we’re dead…" I whisper.
- "Don’t be a killjoy," Mapi exclaims. "If the love of your life were two blocks away, you’d go too. I know it! I’m surprised Alba doesn’t know, though. You seem close."
- "She’s very… protective," she grimaces. "If she knew who I’m dating, she’d lock me up for life."
She’s joking, but knowing Alba, it’s not far from the truth. I’ve never seen anyone so caring about their family as she is. It’s like Alexia is the most precious thing she has. That’s probably true.
- "So, where will your guy be?" she continues her questioning.
- "Not far. She’s spending the evening with her friends, maybe five or ten minutes’ walk away. We haven’t seen each other in a while, so I really want to go. She wasn’t too keen at first, but she finally gave in to my insistence."
- "So, if I sum up the situation, we just need to distract Alba long enough for us to leave. The best plan is to get her drunk, right?"
We laugh with Alexia. She’s just proving she’s still far from knowing my friends. Alba will probably be the last to get drunk tonight if we all start drinking. Over time, I’ve learned that she’s very attentive to those close to her and likes to look after the people she cares about.
- "I doubt she’ll drink much alcohol. Am I wrong?"
- "No, you’re right," Alexia sighs, shaking her head. "She’ll drink, but not to the point of forgetting the evening. But," she starts with a mischievous smile, "I want you to drink."
- "Me?" I ask in surprise when she points at me. "Why?"
- "Because this is the first party we’re having together. I know you drink at parties, and I want us to go crazy, like it’s our first and last night together."
I smile sadly. I know exactly what she’s thinking. Will we get to have another night like this? Tonight is an exception, and no one can say if it will happen again.
- "Bronze won’t be happy if she finds out…"
The words slip out before I can stop them. Once again, she’s the first thing I think of. I know she kind of gave me a free pass for tonight, but I promised her I’d be reasonable. Knowing that I didn’t listen to her will bother me more than I’d like to admit. Mapi groans in frustration.
- "Stop thinking about her for two seconds," she grumbles. "She’s not your mother, and you have the right to have fun."
- "I know, but… I don’t know," I shrug. "I just don’t feel the need anymore."
- "You say that now. We’ll see after your third drink."
I chuckle, shaking my head in amusement. She’s probably right. Mapi often plays bartender for me at parties. If she serves me things that go down like water, I’ll probably break my promises quickly.
- "I don’t want to lie to her when I get back, and we’ll definitely talk about the party."
- "No one’s asking you to lie. Just leave out that little detail."
My best friend’s determination makes me sigh. I won’t win on this topic. If she’s decided to make me drink, she’ll do it, and she’ll succeed. She has this persuasive influence over me that I can never resist. Sometimes I wonder who would win between her and Lucy now that she’s in my life. Has she dethroned her? I can’t say at this moment. Our conversation is interrupted by Alessia, who comes to check if we’re ready. We’re surprised to see it’s already seven o’clock. It seems everyone is already waiting for us downstairs.
- "We’re coming," Alexia announces.
She nods, lingering a bit. I realize when I turn around that she’s looking at me a little longer than the others before quickly leaving and closing the door behind her. The girls giggle, teasing me about the moment. After that, we decide to head down to start our last night of the year. We greet the last to arrive, Laia, before sitting in the remaining seats. Leah and Alba did a great job setting up the little appetizer table. They added chairs so everyone has a place. Of course, I’m seated between Alexia and Mapi. My eyes linger on the many appetizers arranged on the small living room table in front of us.
- "Alessia made everything this morning," Leah, who’s sitting next to Mapi, tells me.
- "Impressive," I say sincerely.
- "I know, right? She was on a mission. No one could stop her," she says with a laugh.
I smile timidly before looking around. I’m happy to be here. I really missed everyone. I feel like I belong here with them.
- "So, what can I get you guys?" she asks the group.
The evening starts off slowly. The drinks so far range between beer and champagne. I opted for a glass of champagne, as I'm not particularly fond of the other option. This drink is tricky because it doesn’t taste strong, but it can go to your head quickly if you don’t eat something with it. The first conversation revolves around our holidays and Christmas. I realize that it was a disaster for most people.
- "No way, seriously?" Alba laughs. "Your dad gave you condoms for Christmas?"
- "Don’t laugh, Girl," Patri responds. "He said it was time for me to find a someone. It's like he’s afraid I that I’ll end up alone."
I sink into my chair as my friends laugh. Mapi Is very touchy with me and It seems she’s not planning to stop anytime soon as she kisses me on the corner of my lips. Her intention hits me immediately when I see Alessia's eyes, half surprised, half upset. Mapi is trying to provoke her to prove she’s right, and I’m forced to admit she is. I must be appealing to Alessia, given her reactions. I feel sorry for her that it’s not mutual. I sigh and gently pull away from my best friend. No one comments on the little moment. They must have noticed by now that Mapi is important to me. She’s the only one I let touch me freely.
- "I forbid you from doing that," I growl at Mapi immediately.
- "You won’t stop me," she retorts with a playful smile.
- "I’m giving you credit. Now stop."
- « No," she smiles even more. "You’ll see, it’s going to spice up our evening. »
- « You two were dating right ? » Alessia ask
-« Yep  » I answer
- "At least you’ve managed to keep your friendship," Alba says.
- "Our friendship was too valuable to lose. We’ve become pillars for each other," Mapi replies.
After that little exchange, the evening continues, though I remain a bit on edge. Knowing Mapi, she’ll stick to her plan just to have fun tonight. Her inevitable bluntness doesn’t reassure me, and I’m worried Alessia won’t get through the night unscathed. Alexia seems to be in on it, as every time Mapi drops a hint about our past relationship in a conversation, Alexia insists on getting more details, further crushing Alessia with each revelation. Everyone is always surprised by what my ex says, as if they’re discovering a bit more about me with each little snippet of my past before I became who I am now.
We sit around the table around eight o’clock. Everyone’s already had at least three drinks. Mapi managed to position us opposite Alessia so that she can clearly see Mapi’s hand resting on my thigh under the table. Alexia can’t stop quietly laughing, watching Alessia simmer. She even asked us if we were back together, referencing our necklaces. Mapi delighted in telling her no, but that we care a lot about each other. I think Alessia might lose it before the night is over.
We eat while mostly talking about school. Leah recounts all the antics she’s gotten up to since her arrival, and the others quickly join in. I realize that no one at Camp Wiegman is really serious. They’re just lucky no one’s there to notice. If I were in their place, Lucy would’ve had my head for everything they’re describing. Bottles of wine are being passed around since Alessia offered us some sweet white wine. I recently discovered that it’s my guilty pleasure, so I couldn’t refuse. I’ve been drinking only that since she brought it out, it’s so good. Mapi wisely put a stop to it so I wouldn’t be drunk before midnight, and she’s right to do so. I almost forgot for a moment that I’m supposed to stay reasonable.
- "So, are you still studying, Mapi?" Claudia asks.
- "Yeah, in mechanical engineering."
- "Seriously? I like you more and more," Patri responds.
- "I’ve always liked anything related to mechanics," she shrugs. "I got into school thanks to Ona’s support."
- "Don’t say that, you would’ve gotten in regardless."
- "Maybe, but it was mostly your support that encouraged me to apply. You were there when I needed it most. We stick together, remember?"
I smile as I fist bump her. It’s true, we’ve always been like that. Just because I went through a rough patch doesn’t mean I abandoned my principles when I came back. I’ve always been there to help her when she needed my support, whether before or after my time with Feli. As for her studies, that was just before. She was really down about choosing her field. She didn’t know what to pursue, so I encouraged her to follow her dream, without worrying about what her family thought. Mostly her parents, actually. There was a real rift between them after her choice. They never saw her in that field at all. Yet, she doesn’t regret it one bit now, even though her parents have become even more distant.
The meal eventually ends. Everyone helps clean up. We take a break before having dessert. The girls dive into the alcohol, as does Alessia, who’s decided not to hold back tonight. My friends can’t get enough of her reactions. Poor thing, if only she knew that Mapi is doing it on purpose. I really feel for her.
We continue with the other bottles of alcohol we had brought out. Mapi chose tequila shots for the two of us. She’s starting off strong, making us take several in a row, but not enough to be out of it. I know when to stop, and I’m especially careful to snack between drinks to balance it out. We’ve turned up the music that’s been playing in the background since the beginning. As usual, Mapi drags me to dance even though I hate it. We’re quickly joined by Alexia, as well as Ella and a few other. Alessia joined us when Mapi started having fun dancing close with me like she does at almost all our parties.
We eventually return to the table when we decide to have dessert around eleven o’clock. We opted for ice cream with chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Some people had coffee with it. This break was short-lived as we quickly moved on to some drinking games. For once, I managed to escape. I didn’t feel like participating when I remembered my last few parties. Mapi surprisingly left me alone. I suppose it’s thanks to Alexia, who decided to stay with me. We laugh at Patri, who is really getting drunk, unable to hold her alcohol. Surprisingly, Lotte is also feeling the effects, and even Alba is starting to let loose, much to her sister’s delight.
Midnight is approaching. There are only a few minutes left before we ring in the new year. We’ve stopped everything to gather in the living room. Leah is busy filling glasses while Alessia finds a channel doing the countdown on the TV. Once everything is ready, we just wait for the countdown, which isn’t far off. We all shout it out loud together.
- "Ten… Nine… Eight… Seven… Six… Five… Four… Three… Two… One… HAPPY NEW YEAR!"
I take hold of my two friends who had the idea to jump on me at the same time. We go around and kiss everyone. We even had some surprises when Patri suddenly kissed Claudia.  Mapi confessed that she gave Patri the idea after seeing them practically devouring each other with their eyes. Mapi won’t let go of me and even forces me to dance with her. I really hope this year is the one where I can finally start fresh. So far, it’s off to a great start. I’ve never felt so well surrounded. The changes I’ve been waiting for are finally happening, little by little.

The Harkers' marriage has much in common with what New Woman authors and their male allies were positing as an ideal union, one founded on "love and trust and friendship." (29) Friendship is a recurring theme in New Woman discussions of marriage. In an 1884 letter to Olive Schreiner, Havelock Ellis muses, "the best kind of union between a man and a woman is a sort of camaraderie ... between two people who care about the same things, who are going the same way, & can walk arm and arm, & kiss & encourage each other on the way." (30) Though most New Woman authors shared Caird's view that such a companionate union was "well-nigh impossible" in the present day, Stoker is more optimistic. Possessing the "love, respect, intellectual likeness, and command of the necessities of life" required for an "ideal" marriage, the Harkers could "look clear through one another's eyes into one another's hearts." (31)
In treating Mina as his peer, Jonathan Harker is most unlike John Seward, whose dealings with Lucy demonstrate an inclination to perceive a woman's beauty rather than her brains. Yet Seward, though not a New Man, has the potential to become one.
When Mina telegraphs to announce her arrival, John is far from pleased: she is a distraction from the important work of reading the papers Van Helsing has given him. "I must get her interested in something else," he determines, and "I must be careful not to frighten her" (195). Mina's appearance--"a sweet-faced, dainty-looking girl" (194)--fits his stereotype of a woman needing protection. When Mrs. Harker asks to see his account of Lucy's final days, Dr. Seward declares, "Not for the wide world!" (195). "Why not?" she asks, and, realizing (with the same acuity Lucy possessed) that he is "trying to invent an excuse" for demurring, is charmed to see him, "with the naivete of a child" and "unconscious simplicity," blurt out an excuse whose truth he realizes only as he speaks it: he cannot let her listen to his account of Lucy's death because he has dictated it into his phonograph and does not know how to locate it in the cylinders (196).
His grimaces and exclamations of "That's quite true, upon my honor" and "Honest Indian!" underscore his boyishness. Bemused, Mina replies that, in that case, he must let her type out all his notes. The doctor cannot argue. Begging her pardon and admitting that she is "quite right," he makes "the only atonement in [his] power" by entrusting her with the cylinders (196). We need have no secrets amongst us," she tells him; "working together and with absolute trust, we can surely be stronger than if some of us were in the dark" (197).
Impressed by her "courage and trust," he embraces her modus operandi. By the end of the evening, he has accepted on equal footing the woman he at first dismissed as an annoying distraction whom he must "be careful not to frighten," telling her, "We must keep one another strong for what is before us; we have a cruel and dreadful task" (198). [...] In this scene, we glimpse the future Caird envisions, "when men and women shall be comrades and fellow-workers as well as lovers and husbands and wives." (32)

This is a sim for #elliescc @mylittlesimcorner 31-day Simblreen CAS challenge, my Lucy sim from my Underworld legacy challenge. Even though she has a messy role in that story line I still thought she was so cute and reminded me of an edgy Bratz doll lol This look is inspired by the Bratz Rock Angelz style
Day 15 theme:
💋🖤Bratz Doll💀🎸
My cousins and I grew up playing with these dolls and we loved the more versatile styles they had versus Barbie. Bratz had more characters with more diversity, especially for people of color. It was definitely a more "urban" doll but it was really embracing street-style fashion which could be worn by different types of people and opened to other styles as well.
