Picnic At Hanging Rock (1975) is one of my favorite films. I watched it last night and had the idea to write about it while rewatching it. It's such a thought provoking film AND beautiful- so I couldn't choose just one frame from it to post as the photo here. Highly recommend it if you haven't seen it, yet. I love rewatching it as well because I get more from it every time I do. I could say so much here, but I'll keep it short. I get so swept away in the atmosphere of the film, it's like the film IS Hanging Rock and I have to venture in its... everything! #30Days30Films #PicnicAtHangingRock #PeterWeir #JoanLindsay #Criterion #CriterionCollection #classicfilm #CriterionChannel #film https://www.instagram.com/p/BydzzE4Fszz/?igshid=1i7tcckzyrp73

So, these photos I've been posting are actually screenshots from the films, since most of them are available on a streaming service- or at least were when I watched them. And this screenshot was SO dark that I edited the brightness to like 80 and the lux to 20. Anyway, this is my favorite shot from The Lovers (Les Amants) (1958), which also turned out to be one of my favorite films that I watched in June. It's incredibly beautiful, especially this scene! I don't think I've seen a love scene quite like this one. I also came to realize just how much I love Jeanne Moreau and need to see everything she was in. #30Days30Films #CriterionChannel #CriterionCollection #Criterion #FrenchFilm #TheLovers #LesAmants #JeanneMoreau #LouisMalle #moviechallenge #frenchcinema #AlainCuny #JoseLuisdeVilallonga #JudithMagre #JeanMarcBory #GastonModot #TheCriterionCollection #TheCriterionChannel https://www.instagram.com/p/Bz1jS9NlKWb/?igshid=1grj8mk4uf32o

Ok. Here we are. The last film I watched in June. So, I got to 23 films for my 30 Days 30 Films movie challenge that, again, I just wanted to do for fun and decided on very spontaneously. I've posted something for all 23 films, by the way, so go ahead and check out what else I watched :) The Game (1997) is so absorbing. Suspense is high throughout most of the film. The clown puppet thing is FUCKING CREEPY. Another David Fincher movie that did not disappoint. Whenever I see something that says CRS I'm going to think of this film. #TheGame #30Days30Films #CriterionCollection #TheCriterionCollection #MichaelDouglas #DavidFincher #Movie #Film #moviechallenge #filmbuff #CRS #SeanPenn #DeborahKaraUnger #JamesRebhorn #CarrollBaker #PeterDonat https://www.instagram.com/p/Bz1macmlLC1/?igshid=1h8qqqpr58wp

The Fire Within (1963). After watching The Lovers I decided to watch the another Louis Malle film I had previously not seen. I wasn't as into this as The Lovers, but it was still worth the watch. It has the same simplicity as The Lovers. OH, I do have to mention that the opening scene made me think about when I was first getting into classic French films and reminded me just how much I love them. Not that I really needed a reminder. #30Days30Films #CriterionChannel #CriterionCollection #TheFireWithin #LeFeuFollet #MauriceRonet #LouisMalle #frenchcinema #FrenchFilm #Frenchnewwave #lenouvellevague #Filmbuff #TheCriterionCollection #TheCriterionChannel #moviechallenge https://www.instagram.com/p/Bz1lTMjlZwN/?igshid=6kgv7qmo87co

Well, I was not expecting to see a just about fully nude David Bowie in The Man Who Fell To Earth (1976)... but there he was. This was a actually more mundane than I thought it would be. Less sci-fi. At one point, though, I thought, "WHAT A TRIP!" even though I don't know what scene I'm referring to... I liked this film but I don't think I would give it a rewatch. I haven't watched the supplements, though, so I'm still interested in learning more about the film from those. Plus, I'm pretty sure there's an audio commentary, so technically that kind of would be a rewatch. #30Days30Films #CriterionChannel #CriterionCollection #Criterion #TheManWhoFellToEarth #DavidBowie #NicolasRoeg #RipTorn #CandyClark #BuckHenry #BernieCasey #film #Movie #classicfilms #Filmbuff https://www.instagram.com/p/Bz1hjJulZhO/?igshid=1vhn2gejdo8yt

Not exactly a film, but it is art. EXO PLANET # 2 EXO'luXion (2016). EXO. That's all I need. 10/10. 9/9. I'm just being ridiculous. (I say 9/9 because EXO has 9 members.) Ohkkaay. I actually thought I wouldn't like this as much as EXO'rdium and ElyXiOn, but I was pleasantly surprised! There were many performances I was less familiar with and hadn't seen the choreography before. My favorites, regardless of if I had already seen them, were El Dorado (obviously), Hurt, Christmas Day, Miracles In December, the whole hype/club section, Growl, and another obvious song: Promise. Promise made me cry. Chanyeol looks SO GOOD. Baekhyun still remains my bias wrecker. And SM needs to get it together and put English subtitles on their stuff! Thanks, would really appreciate it :) #30Days30Films #EXO #EXOL #EXOluXion #EXOPLANET #EXOPLANET2 #Chanyeol #Baekhyun #Chen #DO #Suho #Kai #Sehun #Lay #Xiumin #Concertmovie #Concertfilm #Filmbuff https://www.instagram.com/p/BzzuhTUlZVq/?igshid=1r9csd6t9uuju

Amy Adams in Junebug (2005). That's the post. No, but seriously she's so cute in this and hopeful, and the brightness of the film. I really appreciate and like the everyday and subtle look of this; it's such an early 2000s movie. It was easy for me to be invested in what was happening. At one point I was expecting something bad to happen and I realized if it does I would cry. And sure enough, that's what happened. That's probably a bit spoilery even though it was non-descriptive, but considering there's a pregnant character in this still.... I also love Embeth Davidtz. #30Days30Films #Junebug #AmyAdams #EmbethDavidtz #AlessandroNivola #BenMcKenzie #ScottWilson #CeliaWeston #PhilMorrison #Film #movie #moviechallenge https://www.instagram.com/p/BzzsNl3lTYv/?igshid=z6080dltqotl

The Eagle Shooting Heroes (1993) is a fun and ridiculous movie. This seems like something I really would have enjoyed as a kid! I'm quite sure any adult humor would have gone over my head. There are a lot of characters and subplots, and the way they interconnect and get tangled makes for a great action comedy. And this is yet another film with amazing costumes, sets, and colors. #TheEagleShootingHeroes #JeffreyLau #Criterion #CriterionCollection #30Days30Films #CriterionChannel #WongKarWai #LeslieCheung #BrigitteLin #MaggieCheung #TonyChiuWaiLeung #TonyKaFaiLeung #JackyCheung #CarinaLau #JoeyWang #VeronicaYip #KennyBee https://www.instagram.com/p/BzzqR57lUrA/?igshid=1ig1oab73r06u

The Divorce of Lady X (1938). Oh boy, was I annoyed with this- mostly one of the main characters, Leslie. I could not stand her! I think it was supposed to be funny and charming because it was a girl intruding on a man but it wasn't cute. And the inappropriateness of the situation would have been clear if the roles were switched. On the other hand, the sets and colors were great. Having watched The Hypnotist (2001) earlier in the month really showed how much like a '30s film that looks! I kept thinking back to it. And although I was annoyed with this movie and it turned out I had already seen it before during my "I have to watch everything Laurence Olivier is in" period, I liked seeing it for that comparison. #TheDivorceofLadyX #CriterionChannel #30Days30Films #LaurenceOlivier #MerleOberon #Criterion #classicfilm #TimWhelan https://www.instagram.com/p/Bzy8sKsFpKB/?igshid=tybtwr8jia9n

I watched Suspiria (2018) on the 13th and it's been a handful of days since I watched a movie :/ I liked this but there were definitely parts I didn't like, and I like the original better. I could go into specifics but I don't think it would all fit here. I'm not sure what the limit is to how long an Instagram caption/description can be. So, if you want to read more thoughts about it from me you can check out my Letterboxd. I know links don't work here, but the URL is https://letterboxd.com/baileewalsh/film/suspiria-2018/ There is some information I'd consider as spoilery, though. #30Days30Films #Suspiria #LucaGuadagnino #TildaSwinton #DakotaJohnson #Film #Movie #MiaGoth #ChloeGraceMoretz https://www.instagram.com/p/By31GK_lOdr/?igshid=1mf848xr6qs6o

Wake In Fright (1971) is an Australian cult classic about a schoolteacher who gets overtaken by 'The Yabba,' an outback town where the men greatly outnumber the women and they drink and gamble their existence away. Also, warning for those who may not be able to handle it, there is a terrible hunting scene where many kangaroos die. It is real footage, not fake. I had to look away and hoped the scene wasn't real, but it looked quite real and I looked it up afterwards. There were professional licensed hunters hired to do the scene. This was not only described to me as a psychological thriller but that's the way that it is categorized on some websites. And I see that perspective but, honestly, just barely. I was also being quite judgmental about things that happen in this film and the way the people who live in the Yabba live. I am someone who has no interest in drinking or gambling and I know that I have the tendency to look down on people who choose to do that especially excessively. And I'm aware that that is something I should work on, by the way. But I do really feel like these guys were taking it to the extreme and just being stupid. So with that mindset I was more so complaining than getting caught up in the action or thrills or intensity. And I just have to add that I saw a review of this film on Letterboxd by 'Dana Danger' who said, "The most intense exploration of toxic masculinity and queer panic ever." And that is something I completely agree with. By the way, she rated the film 4.5/5 stars, whereas I rated it 2/5. #30Days30Films #WakeInFright #AustralianCinema #cultclassic #film #Movie #DonaldPleasence #TedKotcheff #australianfilm https://www.instagram.com/p/Byth_HkFQ2C/?igshid=bfasenjkgwkq

Julie & Julia (2009) was the eleventh film I watched for my 30 Days, 30 Films movie challenge. I just needed something light, uplifting, and cute so I thought this would be that kind of movie. It was, just not as much as I thought. It was enjoyable and took my mind off other things that were upsetting me but could do nothing about, but it was almost a nothing film. Nothing really happened. And usually I'm ok with that, but there was little character development, too. It did make me want to explore cooking more, though. I watched it on Netflix by the way. #JulieandJulia #30Days30Films #film #movie #AmyAdams #MerylStreep #moviechallenge #NoraEphron https://www.instagram.com/p/ByqlFYNFjcd/?igshid=1q7ms70nh3dq3

I watched 3 Generations (2015), which at some point was going to be titled About Ray but they stuck to the original title. I have mixed feelings about it. I often look for film stills and screenshots on Tumblr and when I was looking for photos from this film I found a lot of posts from the trans community supporting the film and also not supporting- boycotting the film. And I understand where both sides are coming from, from what I read. On one hand casting actors who are well known and good actors gave the film certain attention that may not have been there if the cast was unknown. On the other hand representation would have been better if a trans male was actually cast in the role of Ray or even a part of the production. I also read an interview with the director and it seemed like she was initially going to make a film about three generations of women living in the same house and got the idea from a friend who knew someone or was going through transitioning, and the director decided to add that to the story. I'm not sure how much research was done and whether they talked to trans people, specifically trans males. There were also a couple posts I read on Tumblr that seemed a lot more furious about the film, its lack of representation, and inaccuracies. I see that perspective and respect those feelings, but at the same time those posts didn't enlighten me on why that person felt that way, and what more specifically was wrong with the movie or could have been done better for the trans community. Too much ranting and not enough information or explanation. So my thoughts are a little all over the place with this film; as well as, it has been a couple days since watching it and I am distracted by other things going on right now. #3Generations #ThreeGenerations #AboutRay #Film #Movie #30Days30Films #ElleFanning #NaomiWatts #SusanSarandon https://www.instagram.com/p/ByoUZ1xl9Gh/?igshid=3yfjk1a9l1fa

I must have spent an hour taking screenshots of this 44 minute film, then tried to figure out which one to post! The Hypnotist (2001) is the last (short) film I watched by Anna Biller this weekend. Although it seems like there wasn't much to the plot, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It looks, sounds, and feels like an Old Hollywood movie that gets overlooked and someone has restored it to bring more attention to it again. My eyes also enjoyed it. I took and saved 48 screenshots of frames from the film that I absolutely adore. The colors, the costumes, the sets ♡ Those are the elements I love about Anna Biller's films and style. #AnnaBiller #Criterion #CriterionCollection #CriterionChannel #TheHypnotist #30Days30Films #Film #shortfilm #TheLoveWitch https://www.instagram.com/p/BylvAxrlV_P/?igshid=1u5abuio6xit2

Anna Biller's next (short) film is A Visit From The Incubus (2001). Not including the opening credits, from the first frame I was into it. Already I loved the colors, the costumes, the set ♡ I was a little iffy on it having a wild west setting, but it surprisingly worked! And the song Lucy sings is good- and so catchy, I was singing it later that night. #AnnaBiller #AVisitFromTheIncubus #Criterion #CriterionCollection #CriterionChannel #Film #shortfilm #30Days30Films #TheLoveWitch https://www.instagram.com/p/Byls6yklq0S/?igshid=videarc5za3

This weekend I caught up on my 30 Days, 30 Films movie challenge by watching the early (short) films by Anna Biller. When I saw this collection on the Criterion Channel I immediately added it to my list. I remember seeing The Love Witch trailer and really wanting to see, and then I loved it when it came out. Hoping with it being on the Channel a physical release is in the works. I would love that! Anyway, the first film from Anna Biller is Three Examples of Myself as Queen (1994). This is my least favorite of the three, but I love seeing her style in the early stages. #AnnaBiller #ThreeExamplesOfMyselfasQueen #Shortfilm #film #Criterion #CriterionChannel #CriterionCollection #TheLoveWitch #30Days30Films https://www.instagram.com/p/BylqZR-F0pf/?igshid=1t3eugtnlpjxb
