Drake) 10 DREAM-GIRLS 11 305TILIDIE 12 B.O.A.T. 13 PRETTY WHEN I CRY 14 JUNE GLOOM Tiny blonde has decided to grace us with a beautiful album concept of where in time. She previously said that she had a what, a who, a when and now she went for a where in this project and that is: Miami. Miami is the main representation and inspiration for CXOXO, the intersection between what is the the characteriscal development of an assortment of cultures and sounds coming from a bowl of several migrant communities that layers a very multicultural identity to locals and their experiences.

"305tilidie", "Dade county dreaming" with local artists JT & Yung Miami (previously City Girls), Koshi XOXO with BPL KOSHER (which is most likely an interlude), just really sets the tone to what we need to envision for this era, Miami livehood, experiences, cultural landmarks and language, fast paced, loud and hot, that is the concept and visuals that we should expect from CXOXO.

After a private listening party in L.A. with some fans, Camila took to the streets, literally, with an open event in a skate park, groundwork with her fans while previewing some of the songs and what a taste we got of Dade County Dreaming... She then took the party to a more watery ground and hello Bacardi! Remember when I did a whole she-bang on the Bacardi deal? Apparently, in collaboration with Interscope, Bacardi footed a bill for a private event where we got a few more snippets and content for days of fans just partying out with C and since that was not enough the next day we had 7-Eleven fully renovating a store for a merch pop-up where once again had fans lined up at the door. One thing is very clear, this era is back to the groundwork of getting the fans excited for the album, close connection, a lot more fan events, sponsors footing the bills and obviously the Interscope connections on the sports industry, the only public intervention we've seen this far, getting Lewis Hamilton on a teaser for a song? Masterclass rollout moment.

Finishing this analysis with the clear idea that Camila never misses a live performance, Jimmy Fallon was astounded, the blindfold moment really set the tone of we're not playing around here and clearly I luv it has been a steady sneak song, averaging 500k daily, getting a lot more appraisal, blowing up on Tiktok and turning haters to consumers.

Pressing Play on "C,XOXO"

Camilla Cabello is back! C,XOXO marks Cabello’s comeback into the music world, after her hiatus amidst the Covid-19 Pandemic, her tumultuous relationship with fellow musician, Shawn Mendes, and her departure from Epic Records. While the album did not receive overwhelming praise from critics, it landed a place at number thirteen on US Billboard 200 and has been one of my favorite albums of the year.

The album focuses on Cabello’s relationship with her hometown of Miami, Florida. Many of the songs include prevalent references to the city in songs like ���305tilidie” and “Dade County Dreaming”, both of which reflect on her childhood in the vibrant city. Cabello also featured some big names on the album, including Lil Nas X, Drake, and City Girls. Each of these artists’ contributions to the album create vibrancy and excitement in Cabello’s already colorful creations. This album perfectly encapsulates the spectrum that is pop music, with songs that are great for getting ready in the morning, while others epitomize the angst associated with being a young woman, navigating adulthood, society, and relationships. No matter which category each song falls into, they all pass my personal test of whether or not a song is perfect to sing along to in the car with the windows down.

In my personal opinion, C,XOXO is one of the most underrated albums released in 2024. While it is difficult for me to choose only a few of these songs to name as my favorites, my personal favorite songs from the album are surprisingly some of the most melancholy songs: “June Gloom” and “Twentysomethings”. These songs both reflect on the confusion one faces in early adulthood regarding relationships. “June Gloom” specifically addresses her highly publicized on-again-off-again relationship with Shawn Mendes. She addresses his dedication to juggling two girls at once, and how he keeps claiming he is done with Cabello, but keeps coming back into her life, and causing great confusion. I consider “Twentysomethings” to be the sister song to “June Gloom”, as this song addresses the confusion and hardships that generally come with being a young woman in your twenties, and applies to the experiences of a greater number of people, compared to “June Gloom” which is much more niche to Cabello’s relationship with Mendes. However, both songs are heartfelt and reflective, while not making the listener feel depressed or stressed after listening. 

I rate C,XOXO an 8/10. I was never a big fan of Camilla Cabello, but this album completely changed my opinion of her. I feel that C,XOXO came completely out of left field for Cabello, and was a welcomed surprise. After the hit that put her on the map in the first place, both from her time in Fifth Harmony and during her solo career, it seems that C,XOXO was the first time that Cabello really flexed her creative muscle, rather than create music that fits into the confines of mainstream pop music that is sure to appeal to the larger consumer audience. I highly recommend this album to anyone who is, or is not a fan of Camilla Cabello. I know that after listening to this album, my opinion of Cabello completely changed and now I am definitely a fan of her’s.
