"...while these [corporate re-education] programs have shown evidence of marginal positive effects (Meredithe et al.) and continue to be employed (Kine-Veck), they ultimately run into the same limitations as A.I. on interstellar hauls infallibly loyal to those possessing their security codes. That is, once outside effective communication distance companies cannot rely on any positive reinforcement. For this reason, it has been suggested that re-education instead focus on loyalty to the rest of the crew, rather than loyalty to the company." - A Proposal for Use of Romantic/Sexual Re-education on Interstellar Haul Crews, Delivered to the Board of VeckQwenZemco on New Armstrong, Mars, 2998 CE. *** The divorce come down and turn around was brutal. One moment your brain and biochemistry and hormones, all carefully wired by the re-education modules, make you fully believe that you have long been in a deep, committed, passionate relationship with the six to eight other people on the haul. You look at them and even though you know you'll only spend a few weeks of subjective time with them, maybe a month or two on a longer job, only a brief window out of cryo and not lagged by relativity, even though you know what you gave the company your written consent to do, your brain still loves them. Then you pull into orbit over Eridiani, or Luna, or wherever, you probably bang one last time, say your tearful goodbyes, and spend the next few weeks crying like you just lost the love of your life as the chemicals wash out and the deprogramming modules hit. The moment is over. But time spent on a company station meant time wracking up debt for oxygen, water, food. So, still on the come down, Reade looked for a course, signed the wavers, gave her consent, grabbed the meager belongings that had gotten her through seven of these hauls, now dating from over forty years ago given the time lost to cryo and near-light travel. File down to concourse-E. Begin again. "Here for the haul?" the skinny low-g kid of her in the line said. "Um, VeckGreenQwenZemco 3043-28897?" Reade sized them up. New kid. First haul. She could smell it on them. In a few hours she'd probably love them and have her brain inventing all sorts of bullshit justifications for the neurochemical feelings the company would induce in her in order to improve team cohesion and morale trillions of miles away from anyone else. In a few hours she'd love them for their optimism, their smile, their cheery attitude and all the questions. But not yet. Right now, still awash in the last break up, Reade savored the simple joy of being a miserable bitch. "Kid," she said, with a malicious grin, "you're gonna love me in a bit. But you're still gonna remember this so I want you to get a good earful of it before the re-education. I'm fucking hate you and hate that I have to do this and if I could I'd throw you out a fucking airlock." She pulled her headphones on and cranked the volume. It hurt, in her chest, and the least she could do was make someone else hurt with her. That freedom, at least, she had for a few more minutes.

His little cherub
Copia x Child Daugther!Oc
// Words 3043 //
Warnings: beginning angst but then pure fluff! Copia a loving father to his little daugther!.
Copia looked up from the mountain of paperwork on his desk, picking up his cup of coffee and taking a sip before speaking. "Come in." He calls out to the person behind the door, putting down his pen and leaning back in his chair, fixing his posture and combing his fingers through his hair to appear more presentable.
inside came Gigi his only daughter 5 years old who he adopted. “Daddy? Can we play?” she asked him but Copia has a lot of duties to do
Copia sighed, but smiled softly. “Maybe tomorrow, kiddo.” He answered, ruffling her hair. “Go play with your toys for now, okay?” Copia looked over his papers again, before leaning back in his chair. It seemed his little girl always knew exactly when he was busy.
“But I wanna play with you!” she stomped her feet
Copia looked up from his paper, looking toward Gigi. “My child, I wish for nothing more than to give you all of my attention, but I still have work to do!” He sighed in exasperation. “Please, do me a kindness and play with your dolls, or your crayons, or anything else; I promise I will play with you when I have time…” Copia said, his frustration melting as he saw Gigi’s frown. “Please, Gigi, be a good child.”
“But to play with my dolls is boring! They won't response! she exclaimed and stomped her feet again I wanna play with you!” her frown turns into anger.
Copia let out an aggravated sigh. “Mia cara, Gigi… I know you wish to play with me, but I am too busy… if this were any other day then I could play with you, but I need to finish this pile of paperwork so I might get to bed at a reasonable hour. Please, I am only asking that you play with your toys for now.” Copia said, trying his best to appear stern and firm.
Gigi walks up to him and took some pen from the desk as she threw it at him angrily “NO I WANNA PLAY!” she yells but the pen didn´t hit Copia.
Copia sighed quietly, rubbing his temples. This was getting annoying. “Il mio bambino, please do not make this difficult. I just need you to play with your toys for a moment. I need to do my work… please, just wait for me. I promise I’ll play a little later…” Copia said, his tone more tired than annoyed this time.
“But I wanna play with you!!” she yells again and starts to hit the desk. Copia’s patience was beginning to wear thin. This had gone on for long enough. Gigi was going to learn how hard work was, and that he just couldn’t always get his way whenever he wished. “Bambino, this behavior is unacceptable. Play with your toys, and learn to be patient because I cannot…” he paused for a moment, realizing he didn’t want to yell at this sweet little girl, but she certainly wouldn’t listen if he didn’t. “I cannot play with you right now.” Copia said sternly.
and then she pushed Copia to his limit as she went up to him and kicked his leg angrily.
“Gigi, stop this instant!” Copia shouted, his voice loud for the first time today. “I have to finish this paperwork, and I cannot do that if you continually distract me and beg me for playtime. Do I make myself clear? Please, mia cara, stop this behavior. I cannot play with you right now, and you must learn to respect that, to be patient and accepting of the situation. What is it that I must do…” Copia trailed off, shaking his head angrily and trying to regain his composure. Gigi jumped as his voice raised against her, never in her life did he scream at her or lost his patience with her. Her eyes widened and took a step back. Copia took a deep breath, realizing that he was scaring his little girl. He sighed, rubbing the side of his face and smiling softly. “Tesoro, I am so very sorry for yelling, I am just… tired, and I need to get done this paperwork. You must play with your toys until I have enough time to play with you, as I promised. Will you promise me this?” Copia said, kneeling down next to Gigi. but she didn´t listened to Copia, she turned around to run out of the office without a word. Copia sighed, looking toward the door. “Gigi, come back here, please. Mi dispiace Tesoro…” Copia sighed again, looking out the window before looking at the papers in front of him once more. “Oh dear…” he muttered to himself silently.
As Gigi was running away from the office, she run the hallway and reached a door she knocked fast without stopping.
Sodo let out a sigh as he heard the door knock. He rose from his desk and opened the door, seeing Gigi standing there. “Hello, little one.” He said softly. “Is everything alright?” Sodo looked puzzled.
she shook her head as tears are spilling from her eyes “daddy screamed at me!” she sobs trying to wipe her tears with her tiny hands.
Sodo put his hand on Gigi's shoulder, taking a moment to crouch down and speak to her at her level. "Sweetie, did you know that your daddy was working? He is very busy right now and doesn't have time to play with you right now, however, he still loves you very much. Maybe he yelled at you because he's just stressed out right now, and he's still adjusting to his job." Sodo says, trying to comfort the young girl.
“But I wanted to play with him... “she cries “he didn’t play with me a long time ago... I miss papa” she sobs
Sodo sighs, standing up taking Gigi in his arms. “Darling, you can’t play with Papa right this moment… but I can. And it’ll be like having a big brother for a while. I’ll play with you until it’s time for you and your papa to go to bed, okay sweetie? Is that okay with you?” Sodo asked her, smiling gently.
She nods at him with tears in her face as she smiles at him and giggles plus cries the same time. “We can play together?” She asked him again wanting to know if he really wants to play with her.
“Of course, we can, sweetheart! Let’s play with the dolls over here, alright?” Sodo said, walking toward a toybox on the other side of the room because sometimes Gigi always left her dolls at Sodo’s room so he made a box to put them inside. “I wonder which doll you’re going to pick…” he muttered to himself as he began opening the box and picking out the toy. He smiled softly before giving Gigi a hug and turning around, waiting for her to grab a doll, any doll.
Sodo smiled as he watched Gigi take a doll from the box. “Which doll did you pick?” Sodo asked, crouching down next to the youngster as she shows him which doll she picked, as he is speaking at her own level again. “Let’s start playing!” he said, his tone cheerful.
she giggles and starts to play with Sodo
Sodo picked up the other doll as well, speaking with a sweet, high-pitched voice as he started playing with Gigi. He would mimic her and her doll’s voices to add to the game; he always enjoyed entertaining children, and he was especially close to Gigi. He always wanted her to have the best childhood, even if it meant helping out to relieve her father from a bit of his stress.
after some playing Gigi fall asleep on Sodo’s bed with the doll in her hand
Sodo let out a soft chuckle at the sight of Gigi sleeping. She was absolutely adorable when she slept. Sodo made sure to tuck Gigi in for the evening, smiling softly as he adjusted the blanket. "Sleep well, my little lamb.", Sodo whispered to the young girl.
Copia stepped into the room, still in his robes, and saw Gigi sleeping peacefully in Sodo's arms. He cleared his throat. "Hello, Sodo." Copia said calmly, approaching both Gigi and his Ghoul "Oh, lord..." Copia muttered, watching both Gigi and Sodo interacting in the room. "Is she...? Did something happen?" He asked the question of Sodo, his expression a mix of bewilderment, concern, and anxiety.
Sodo looked up at Copia, smiling softly as he held Gigi protectively. "No, it's quite alright, Copia. She came crying to me, so I took her into my room for a little while. She had said you yelled at her." Sodo answered, his tone gentle and warm. He looked over at Gigi calmly.
Copia nodded silently, feeling even more concern wash through him as he watched Sodo gently rocking Gigi in his arms. With a heavy sigh, he stepped forward and looked down at his daughter, touching a strand of her hair that was falling on her face. "mio piccolo amore," Copia said softly, touching Gigi's cheek. He looked up at Sodo. "Mi dispiace tanto, Sodo." Copia said, his tone soft and worried.
Copia continued to stare at Gigi, his expression one of sadness, guilt, and remorse. He turned to Sodo, who gently patted Gigi's head as she slept. "Grazie Sodo. Please, take good care of her, won't you?", Copia said softly. He then turned to Gigi carefully, gently kissing her forehead. "I am sorry for yelling at you, Gigi. I am so sorry... ti amo mio piccolo angelo"
the next morning, Gigi woke up to Sodo’s bed alone. Gigi sat up slowly in Sodo's bed, feeling slightly confused. She knew she remembered playing with Sodo, but he wasn't in the room anymore. She looked around, feeling slightly alone and slightly scared. Where was Sodo? Where was her papa?
She tried to remember exactly why she had been in Sodo's room in the first place. She knew he was playing with her, but her memory felt fuzzy. Did she remember what happened yesterday? Was her papa mad at her? She couldn't remember.
she stood up and walked with her little legs out of the room. She went to the dining room where the sisters of sin were serving the food for the ghouls. There she saw Copia “daddy!” she came running to him
Copia was eating a light breakfast with one of the Ghouls. He smiled gently as he saw Gigi run toward him. He got up from his chair and picked her up, giving her a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. “Good morning, la mia piccola colomba.” Copia said, his tone full of the affection that was always there when it came to Gigi. “Did you have a good time with Sodo last night?” he asked her.
“Yes, we played together and had lots of fun!” she giggled and hugs him tight with her arms and legs around “I miss you daddy...” she whispers to him as she hides her face at his neck.
Copia felt warm inside as he felt Gigi hug him. He gently ran his fingers through her hair, smiling at her. “I am so glad you had the joy of spending time with your uncle last night, my little Tesoro, I am sorry I have not been able to spend a lot of time with you the past few months, I am simply so busy.” Copia said, his tone soft.
He then lifted Gigi up a bit, and placed a kiss on her forehead. “I promise, though, that once I finish some paperwork, we can play some more Si?”
“But when are you finished?” she asked sadly “I can’t wait anymore papa...”
Copia held Gigi close, smiling softly as he felt her hugging him tightly. "Colomba, I should be finished by lunch time Si? Will that be okay with you?" Copia said, his tone soft and gentle. "Do you think you can wait just a bit longer? Please." he said, looking into Gigi's eyes.
“C-can I stay with you then while you work?... I promise I will be quiet... “she booped her nose with his nose while looking at him
Copia’s expression softened as Gigi booped noses with him. The young girl was utterly adorable, and despite how busy he was, Copia couldn’t help but melt with each gesture of affection.
“Of course, Tesoro” he said softly, “and you don't need to promise; you’re always such a good little girl, it’s one of the things I am proud of most.” Copia said, his love and affection flowing through his sweet words.
Copia chuckled as he felt Gigi’s stomach growl. “Ah, it seems you must be quite hungry. Let us go see if the sisters are done cooking your food.” Copia said, carrying Gigi as he turned around to walk out of the room. As he walked away, he placed a kiss on Gigi’s forehead; a sweet gesture he had never done with any other child.
after they ate, they went to his office. Copia was doing his paperwork and Gigi was playing or drawing silently beside him, sometimes between drawing she reaches for his hand to hold it for some Minutes.
Copia sighed as he looked back over at his papers, focusing on his work again. Then he felt Gigi’s hand sneaking with his, he smiles softly and squeezes her hand.
As he looked down at the papers in front of him, feeling a bit of guilt wash over him. Gigi was only looking for his attention; she was only a little girl. She wanted to play, she wanted to be loved, she wanted him to be proud of her. “Hmm…” Copia spoke out loud, thinking. He set down his pen and put the papers in front of him to the side.
Gigi was drawing her and papa in a picture holding hands as they do right now. She looks up at him and then asked softly “can I sit on your lap daddy? O-or... Is it distracting you from work...?”
Copia smiled gently, his eyes warming at the scene of Gigi drawing him and her together. He reached down and picked Gigi up to sit her in his lap, kissing her gently. "Of course, you can." he said softly, "This is the best part of my day, having my beautiful little girl in my lap." Copia brushed back Gigi's hair, and spoke to her as he looked at what she was drawing. "And whatever you are drawing must be so beautiful. Can I see it when you are done?" She hums a quiet yes as she continues drawing and waggling with her tiny legs
Copia nodded gently, smiling as he felt her weight in his lap, and felt Gigi humming softly, probably in content. He looked down to check out what Gigi was doing, still watching her draw. “Hey, Gigi? I am proud of you.” he said softly, his voice warm and full of affection.
“You are?” she said as her eyes sparkle, “I am also proud of you daddy!” she giggles
“Why, yes. Of course, love. You are the most important thing in my life, my little cherub. And every tiny accomplishment you make, makes me the proudest papa in the world, do you hear me?” Copia said softly, his eyes sparkling as he spoke. He brushed her hair away from her face, his fingers gently brushing past her cheeks, “And what about this? Eh? You said you were proud of me, too. Why would you say that?” he asked, looking down at Gigi.
“Uhm... Because you work very hard... You work hard for me, for the people who loves you outside... Uhm what where they called... Fans”
"Ohh, yes, mio piccolo amore. That's correct! Fans. And yes, I do work for them. But I work hard for you, too. You are my most precious thing, and I do everything in my power to protect you, and make you happy. Ti amo, Gigi." Copia said softly, his smile as warm as always. He gently stroked her hair again, letting the warmth from his touch comfort the young girl.
After that Copia continues to work on his papers and Gigi on her drawing still sitting on his lap.
Copia sighed and picked up Gigi from his lap. "Tesoro It's time for you to go to bed," he said softly. Gigi looked at him for a moment, a tiny frown on her face. "...But papa... I wanna spend more time with you." she said, her tone sounding almost pleading. Copia looked at her a moment, smiling softly, "Come. Let me take you to bed." He said, gently, taking Gigi back to her room. As they arrived, he laid her down on her bed, putting the blanket over her and rests his hand on her forehead smiling.
Gigi glanced at him with her happy smile as she asked him “Can you stay with me? And read me a bedtime story? Please?” Copia smiled softly at Gigi's request, nodding slowly. "Si, Tesoro. I can stay with you tonight, and if you'd like, I can even read you a bedtime story." He said, kissing her cheek.
Copia read Gigi her favorite bedtime story as she hugged him tightly to her. It was a story of a king who loved his daughter deeply and took her hunting, to share in his favorite past time with her. Copia smiled as he read, looking down at Gigi as they cuddled closely to him. She was precious, more precious than anything in the world to him, and he was so happy she was his little angel.
Eventually, though, Gigi's eyes began to flutter with sleep. She looked up at Copia one last time, her face showing her love for him. And then, she fell asleep
Copia looked down at Gigi as her eyes closed. He gently set her down on her pillow, her small frame buried underneath the covers of the bed. Copia leaned down and kissed her forehead, his expression full of love and affection.
“buonanotte mio piccolo tesoro prezioso.” Copia whispered softly, turning off the light in the room before closing the door, leaving little Gigi to happily sleep.

gonna try for an uptown girl
by trainerlyra
Hyde made no move to get out of the car and walk her to the door. Jackie was still oddly quiet, and he cursed himself for not putting it together earlier. Her father was in jail, and he'd not heard her say one thing about her mother unprompted. How was he so blind?
"Jackie," he said, feeling the weight of the situation hit him like a ton of bricks. "There's nobody in there, is there?"
Or, how Jackie started staying over Hyde's in season 5.

POWERPUFF GIRLS! READER | HEADCANONS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
includes: bakugou k. & midoriya i.
from the writer: credit to the lovely @jane-3043 for the idea. thank u so much for letting me write this out, i hope u like it :)
notes & warnings: season 3 anime spoilers (bakugou), reader has powers same as powerpuff girls, cursing
Tumblr media
Bakugou:
he’s absolutely amazed and confused at the same time
he can’t figure out how/why you have so many powers and if anything, he would have thought that your quirk was being able to copy others
though had it not been for the fact that nobody else in class can shoot lasers out of their eyes, he managed to deduct that it was all you during the strength fitness test
and you were beating him in literally, EVERYTHING from strength to smarts
he’s indirectly now fighting you over the top ranks in class (even though it’s mostly one-sided cause you have no clue about this)
but as the most powerful people in class, judging from the entrance exam, you surprisingly come to him a lot for training (i mean if it were any other person they would’ve gotten folded twice as fast)
your go-to powers most of the time are your flight and ice breath, seeing as some of your other abilities like fireball and ultrasonic screams were a bit too dangerous for simple training
eventually as you spend more time together and move into the dorms, Bakugou does develop a liking to you which eventually grows into a crush
and surprise surprise, it’s during training when you find out
“you little shit, if i didn’t like you so much i would’ve obliterated your ass months ago”
“what??”
both of you have to backtrack his steps together like Sherlock and Watson only to find out that he basically just confessed
to his luck, you confessed as well and thus started your oh so loving relationship
despite only having a few wins against you that he could count on one hand, he’s still very protective of you
it’s especially when the LOV tries to kidnap both of you when he realizes how much danger you’re in and his protectiveness only grows from then
luckily he pushed you back before the villains could grab you too because in all honesty, all he could think about then was your safety
he definitely scolds you when you go along with Midoriya and the others to rescue him
but you know he’s thankful by the way he holds your hand and it’s the look in his eyes that tells you just how in love he is
Midoriya:
he is absolutely crazy about you because you’re basically his new idol
you guys met at the entrance exam, because you were the only other person who stayed behind to defeat the giant robot that appeared
even though he was the one who had the last hit, he wanted to thank you for wearing it down but he passed out from his injuries before he could
so imagine how excited he is to find you in his class
he’s pretty giddy about knowing at least one person in his class now besides his childhood friend so he tries to make conversation with you first
you like to bond over different fighting styles but he’s way more interested in yours because it emits so much power
i think with all of your powers, it wouldn’t intimidate him so much as it would motivate him to become stronger in controlling his new quirk
and ngl he did come up to you first to talk about your powers at first but as you talk more, he eventually grows and learns how to just have a genuine conversation with you and he enjoys it just as much
sometimes he’ll catch you just hovering in midair when you’re playing around with your flight quirk and it makes him smile
oh, is this what love feels like?
midoriya honestly didn’t expect to actually catch feelings for you, seeing as he does think of you as a big figure
i guess you can say that his time contributed to thinking about you played a big factor
but he’s a little nervous now that he recognizes his feelings for you and will try not to think of you as much (he honestly can’t though)
but he does end up accidentally confessing when he’s recovering from an injury and is just waking up from the anesthesia
“i didn’t confess that i like Y/n, right?”
“well not anymore you didn’t” don’t mind Todoroki he’s just blunt like that
he freezes up when he sees that you're standing to the side of his cot with Todoroki
but he’s over-the-moon ecstatic to find out that you like him back when you accept his confession
even with the title of boyfriend, he’s still your number one fan from the point of sparring to when he’s watching you fight a villain as a pro-hero

It had been a quiet day the first time Theo noticed you. Grey clouds move fast in the evening sky, the light breeze comfortable for every student out in the courtyard to show their house pride and wear their scarves around their necks. His friends talked about the Golden trio and what had they done that week to ruin their mood. Nothing new really. Theo never added much to those conversations, what was the point of complaining about something when you could ignore it. He too was bothered by Potter and his friends adventures and misadventures, but Draco and his friends weren’t the target. But that was just the way Theo saw it.
“Wait until I write my father,” grumbled Draco, sitting in the middle of the bench where Theo had been sitting with Blaise. “ Potter is going to regret it.” he said with a huff.
Pansy arrived just a second after he ended rambling, rolling his eyes as she sat on the grass without a care about her robes. She gave a pleading look at the other boys as she cocked her head towards the Slytherin prince. When neither one of them said anything she scoffed glaring daggers at both before she smirked “Draco darling, Why don’t you tell Blaise and Theo here what Potter did. I’m sure they’d love to hear it.”
Blaise’s protest died down on his tongue when Theo shut his book close “No need.” he said, looking straight in Pansy’s eyes “We saw it all.”
And it was true, it was hard to miss one of their disputes when they shouted at each other, standing at opposite extremes of the hall as the crowd gathered to witness the latest drama between Slytherin and Gryffindor.
“Doesn’t matter if they know.” Draco said desperately, leaning to rest his arms on his knees “I already have a plan for them to know their place. And plan B in case that one doesn’t work.”
“Maybe you should try plan D for dumbass.”
They all turned around to the large tree, their gazes lowering to the base of it. There you sat, an annoyed look on your face as you straightened your robes and stood. Your movements were sharp, taking your bag on your shoulder as you stormed away from them, all of them in a state of shock to even try to stop you.
“Who does she think she is.” muttered Draco, already jumping to his feet when Theo placed a hand on his chest.
“Leave this one to me.” he said lowly, his eyes never leaving your form as you walked away. Draco hesitated but gave him a slow nod as he sat back down.
Theo smiled triumphantly, hiding his face quickly so no one would see him and his true feelings. He took off and ran after you, keeping enough distance so you would walk away from the eyes of his friends.
He kept running, your back facing him as he came to a halt. “Hey!” he yelled, your eyes glancing back at him as you picked up your pace. “Wait, stop.” he yelled again, catching up with you as he stopped in front of you.
“What?” you said sharply, looking down at his hunched form as he breathed heavily. You raised an eyebrow at him, crossing your arms over just your chest as you leaned back. “ Don’t tell me, Draco sent you to do his dirty work?”
“You…” he smiled, trying to keep in a laugh as he shook his head “You just called him a dumbass.”
You frowned, taking in the boy in front of you. Well kept brown hair, milky skin and the most beautiful eyes you had ever seen, his smile reaching his eyes as he stood to his full height.
“Aren’t you his friend or something?” you asked confused.
He shrugged, rubbing the back of his neck as he looked around. “Even I can get annoyed at him.”
You squinted your eyes, eyeing the boy before you looked up at him “Who are you?”
He extended his hand with a smile, one you hesitantly took “Theodore Nott, but everyone calls me Theo.”
You raised both your eyebrows, shaking his hand with a nod “Right.” you said “Well, if you’re not here to avenge your friend…”
“I’m not.” he smiled as you mirrored his look.
“Maybe you’re not a dumbass.” you told him, staring into each other's eyes before you realized you had been in silence for too long “I’m going now.” you turned on your heel, resuming your walk to a more quiet zone where Slytherins weren’t complaining when his voice made you stop.
“You didn’t tell me your name!”
You turned to see him with a smile, a glint in your eyes as you said “Goodbye, Theo.” He stared at you as you disappeared in the halls of the castle, breathing out a laugh as he returned to his friends.
It was difficult to not think about you after that. Your two minute interaction had him wondering more about you, who you were, what did you like. He started to pay more attention to you after that.
He thought getting your name wouldn’t have been a difficult task. He felt like the detective he read about when he was younger, sneaking in the middle of the night to behind his father’s back to read the muggle novel he got his hands on not a while ago, reading until his eyelids could barely stay open with only the moonlight to accompany him. He wanted to feel the rush of Sherlock Holmes, and he wanted you to be John Watson. But as he actually tried to get something about you without interacting with you he realized why everyone praised Holmes so much, it wasn’t an easy job.
You always seemed to be with someone, but in utter silence. Muttering a few words with the people around you as you always had something better to do. You were the mystery he couldn’t get out of his head, the thought that kept him up at night, the dream that had him drifting away as his friends talked. He wanted the honor of being your friend.
****************************************
You worked on your herbology research, a pile of dusty books at your left side as you read the one opened before you. Your study partner was someone gathering more information, probably found someone and got stuck in the chat. Nothing new, really. You were used to initiating the study date with your partner and ending it alone.
You felt someone walking behind your back. Expecting to hear your partner’s voice, your head snapped up at the sound of someone else.
“So,” said Theo Nott, taking the chair next to yours with a proud smile on his face “How are you, Y/N?”
You dropped your quill on the table, tilting your head with a curious look “Who told you my name?” you asked.
“It’s written on your parchment.” he pointed towards your handwriting on the upper part of the paper. “I got to say, it was difficult. Not many people really know you, you're like a ghost in the castle.”
“Maybe to the people you asked, I am very well known here.” you said daringly, and he nodded. “Well you know my name, you can leave now.” You took your quill back up, following the line you were previously reading with your finger when the thudding sound against the table made you raise your head slowly with a glare. “What are you doing?”
“Homework.” he said simply, opening a book as he silently began to read. Not once looking back to you, not saying another until he finished. Taking his things inside and wishing you goodnight, leaving the library without another word.
It became a routine after you realized he wouldn’t give up. He would always show up, sitting on the chair he did that first night and working on his homework. There were times when you would get there and he was already sitting, books scattered all over the table until he saw you, moving his things to make some space for you. He didn’t bother you, so you allowed it. His presence  warm and welcoming as you studied, you even helped each other sometimes.
A year had passed by since that night, and you didn’t realize when you started to think about him as a friend. The only person you actually felt comfortable calling  a friend. He had been there for your happy days, your rough days. He took genuine interest in you. Telling you about him and his life, sharing his candy and food as you walked through the castle side by side. He asked you about your life before Hogwarts, how was your childhood with a muggle parent. You told him all about your past school, how you lost your friends through the years as you never got to see them and you couldn’t explain your sudden change of school and life. Theo became your best friend and you couldn’t be more happy.
“What are you doing this weekend?” he asked you.
“I don’t know.” you shrugged, putting a raspberry in his hand as you ate one “Sleep sounds good.” you said with a smile and he laughed.
“Are you sleeping for two days straight?” he said in disbelief, and you scoffed hitting his face with another raspberry.
“Is that a challenge?” you dared, sticking you tongue out to him.
He scrunched his nose, catching the berries in his mouth until you stopped “Stop, your Gryffindor is showing.” he said with a fake look of disgust. You only laughed, shaking your head as you drifted back to his question.
“I’m not doing anything, then.” you commented, waiting to see what he had to say.
“Do you want to go to Hogsmeade?” he asked simply, your heart beating fast in your chest in both nervousness and excitement. But once you saw  the carefree look in his face your heart dropped. Why were you feeling that way?
“I don’t know.” you said, trying to put the hurricane of emotions inside you at ease “I’ve never seen the fun in going.”
“That’s because you’ve never been there with me.” he said with a smile, tilting his head with a sigh at the hesitance in your face “C’mon, Y/N. You’ve told me you have never been with your friends…”
“They’re not really my friends.” you corrected with your lips pursed “They hardly are the people I hang out with. They’re just there in a silent agreement of company.”
“Am I not your friend?” he asked and you knew you had already lost the small debate.
“You know you’re my best friend.” you said with a small smile, one he returned as he held your hand, a warm tickle in your hand where his skin touched yours.
“Then it’s settled. I’ll go get you from your common room.” he said and you nodded, praying that the emotion flowing inside you was slipping in the look of your face.
Little did you know that Theo was feeling exactly the same. His stomach was doing flips inside of him as you smiled at him. He wanted so bad to tell you it was a date, that he had just asked you out on a date but you had just said it, that word that left a bitter taste in his mouth.
You’re my best friend.
Maybe he had been in the beginning, but not anymore. Or maybe he was, but he didn’t want to be your best friend.
Many had noticed how the Slytherin and the Y/H/H had grown closer over the past year. Theories of what was the core of their relationship were made. How did Theo Nott get close to you? Did you have a deal no one knew about. Where you friends, partners, lovers. No one knew, and neither did you.
The weekend arrives and just as promised Theo walked you from your common room to Hogsmeade, hand in hand as you talked through the snowy streets full of students.
You were oblivious to the crowded mess, talking inside a bubble no one could bother you. Not even the redhead pair that stared at you as you walked past them.
"Are you seeing what my eyes are seeing, George?"
"We wouldn't be twins if I wasn't, Freddie."
*******************************
"MAKE YOUR BETS, MATES!" yelled George from the top of the table in the middle of the Gryffindor common room.
"Our lovely Y/N."
“Friends"
"Or lovers."
"With none other than Theodore Nott."
They said, finishing each other's sentences with the invisible link the pair shared, that invisible string that made them shout the exact same words at the end. They wore grins on their faces as more bets were placed.
"What do you think, little brother?" asked George jumping form the table
"Friends or lovers?"
Ron rolled his eyes, turning to Harry who was already making his bet with a smile in his face. Ron scoffed "I don't care about snakes business. They can be whatever they want." he said bitterly.
"Someone jealous?" taunted Fred as Ron turned with a red face to his brother.
He angrily pulled some coins from his pocket, slamming them in Fred's hands as he muttered "Lovers."
*******************************
You had the time of your life at Hogsmeade. Theo was right and you told him so when the sun started to set, a few stars shining on the sky as you walked back to the castle. He smiled, hugging you closely with genuine joy in his face as he promised to take you again on the next trip there.
However the next day, the murmurs and eyes from everyone in your year followed you everywhere you went.
You were never shy, but the constant attention had you on edge the entire day. Finding refuge in the far table of the library, hidden in between the shelves where the only source of light was if you had a candle with you.
You stayed there until late, waiting until the library was practically dead, you doubted madame Pince was still there, but you could never know. You had made it to the end of the day.
"What are you doing here?" Theo's shushed voice came from behind you, his eyebrows scrunched together as he sat next to you, closer than he usually did.
"I'm hiding." you whispered.
For a moment his stomach dropped at the thought that you might have been hiding from him, that he might have let something slip on your day together and you knew how he felt. But you started ranting about your day and the looks you received from everyone and he understood, he had gotten the same looks all day long.
"Don't worry." he murmured, opening his arms for you and you leaned on his side. "Draco probably said something about you again. I'll talk to him later" he sighed and you chuckled.
He looked down to you, a loving look in his eyes as you kept chuckling. How could someone be so breathtaking just by doing such mundane things like leaning against someone and talking? Since the first time he saw you he knew you were beautiful but, Merlin, now you were gorgeous.
"He is never forgetting about that, is he?" you laughed. Staring at the table, you frowned when Theo didn't say anything.
You turned your head up to him, finding him already looking back at you. You didn't realize when you had leaned so close to him, his breathing blowing softly against your face as you gazed into his eyes. The little flick in them waking up all the butterflies in your stomach as you could have sworn his eyes moved to your lips for a fraction of second.
You froze, realizing what that could mean when you felt him lean closer to you, his eyes closing before someone cleared their throat behind you, making you jump apart from one another.
"The library is about to close." said professor Snape, looking at you with a glare before he settled his eyes on Theo. "Take your friend with you Mr. Nott. Directly to your common rooms." he said painfully slow.
You both nodded, clumsily taking all your stuff as you walked around him and practically ran out of there. No one said anything, your eyes on the floor as he walked you to your common room.
"I'm sorry." he said once at the door handing you your books, your hands brushing against one another, making the blush in your face deeper.
"No, I… You don't have to apologize." you stuttered before the words left your mouth.
Heavy silence settled again between both of you, the tension making your stomach turn as you wished your feet would move and get you out of there. Of course, they had other plans.
Theo wished you goodnight in a mumble, turning around and walking away just as you dropped your books on the floor, calling his name.
"Yeah?" he asked, never meeting your eyes. You felt your mouth go dry, your hold in his wrist loosening as you breathed heavily. You brought your hand up to his cheek, smiling as he leaned in. He had closed his eyes and you ran your thumb across his cheek bone, waiting until he looked back at you. You started to lean in, his eyes widening as he realized what you were doing. His smile widened, cupping your cheeks as he closed the space between the two of you in a soft kiss. His hands wandered to your waist, pulling you closer to him as you wrapped your arms around his neck. He slowly pulled away, resting his forehead against yours with a smile that reached his eyes.
"Remember when I told you I wanted you to be my Watson?" he breathed out with a smile "Well, I'm not so sure anymore."
You chuckled, moving to kiss his cheek as you rested your head on his shoulder "Funny, I always thought Sherlock Holmes and John Watson were lovers." you whispered in his ear. He smiled at you, kissing you once more.
Completely unaware of the audience not so far away, hiding behind a wall with wide grins. "Ron was right."

Part 10 of The Story of Loki and Mobius
Tumblr media
"I’ve heard it once, I’ve heard it a thousand times. You. You conniving, craven, pathetic worm. You did this."
He knew he was pathetic. Mobius had made it clear to him just before throwing him back into this hellish time frame. Forced to repeat again and again that he deserved to be alone to avoid taking a blow in the crotch. Which importance since it was true?
He suspected that Mobius would be angry with him. After all, he had betrayed him in some way. But he had the impression of having had another Mobius in front of him. No more understanding, no more caring eyes. As if everything had disappeared.
" If you’re not working for the Variant, what is it?"
In retrospect, it was mostly from this question that it had gotten out of hand. It was the first time that Loki had seen Mobius being so uncharacteristically mean, and if Loki hadn't been hurt, he would have found it comical.
Why had Mobius insisted on knowing what was going on between Sylvie and him when the first time he had asked Loki the question, Loki had given a clear answer?
"You’re partners?"
"Absolutely not. She’s difficult and irritating, and she tries to hit me all the time. No."
"Not partners, no. Yeah, I guess you don’t do partners. Unless, of course, it benefits you, and you intend to betray them at some point."
Of course he had betrayed Mobius when he had walked through the door, but what had begun to germinate between him and Mobius, had been valuable to him and had not been a means to an end.
The conversation had gotten worse, each one spitting his venom, Mobius had managed to manipulate him and Loki had almost had respect for that. But he had become cruel. Loki still wondered what had made Mobius lash out so much.
"Come on. Look at your eyes. You like her."
"You like her. Does she like you? No wonder you have no clue what caused the nexus event on Lamentis. Both of you are swooning over each other."
"Two Variants of the same being, especially you, forming this kind of sick, twisted romantic relationship. That’s pure chaos. That could break reality. It’s breaking my reality right now."
On second thought, what did Mobius mean by that? How did it break his reality?
How could Mobius think that Loki and Sylvie...After what he and Loki had shared!
And yet when Loki thought about the rest of the conversation it became clearer and clearer.
"What a incredible seismic narcissist. You fell for yourself."
"Her name was Sylvie."
"Ah, Sylvie. Lovely. How do you spell that? Is that with an I-E or just an I?"
"Now, I’m supposed to believe your girlfriend."
"It’s the truth. She’s not my girlfriend."
"Whatever you want to call her. What, your female self that you have some demented crush on…"
"You two, what a pair! Gosh! Unbelievable. Wherever you go, it’s just death, destruction, the literal ends of worlds. Well, I’m gonna have to close this case now, ’cause I don’t need you anymore."
Mobius had been jealous!  It was so obvious! Mobius had been completely blinded by jealousy!
After all he had said to him, these last insults made no sense.
He remembered their last conversation, the last words he had spoken when Loki had expressed his doubts.
"But you told me I was born to cause pain and suffering and death. That's how it is, that's how it was, that's how it will be. All so that others can achieve their best versions of themselves."
Mobius had answered him, "Yes, I told you that not because I think that's what you are, I was just showing you that that's what you were limiting yourself to because you yourself think you're only capable of that. Because you want to rule so badly, that you don't see that you are made for bigger things. You asked me to trust you yesterday. I did because Loki I have faith in you and since you've been here you keep proving it. In your own way. Because you are undoubtedly the god of mischief. Unique. Not. A. Villain."
How could the man who had told him that, now tell him the opposite? The more he thought about it, the more jealousy seemed to be the only reason.
Loki knew jealousy, he could even understand it. But that Mobius felt this way about Loki? What did that mean?
Loki sighed.
What a mess! How could he repair an already fragile relationship in the midst of all this mess? He really had a way of getting himself into complicated situations...
"Right?" he was exclaiming, exasperated when Mobius rushed through the door, "What are you doing?"
Idiot, what do you think when I try every two minutes not to get hit in the crotch?
Loki held back from saying out loud what he was thinking because he had just noticed that Mobius looked upset and very flustered.
He just answered dryly, because he was still hurt from what Mobius had told him before.
"Passing the time."
Mobius asked him in an urgent tone, "Do you care about her?"
What? That kind of question again?
Loki replied, "Sylvie? I'm not sure if it's the right word. We've covered this back in there."
When Mobius began to shout, visibly annoyed.
"Shut up!"
Loki was shocked that he would raise his voice like that, so he kept quiet.
Mobius said, hurriedly, "Do you really think you deserve to be alone?
Huh?
Loki did not answer, his voice shut down by shock.
How could he ask him such a question? Why?
Mobius lost his patience again, "Loki!
"You told me to shut up."
Mobius repeated, "Do you believe you deserve to be alone?
Loki replied in frustration, "I don't know."
"You better figure it out quick, because the nexus event the two of you caused, whatever that connection is, can bring this whole place down. So we better understand..."
We? We as in him and me? Did Mobius still believe in a we?
"We?" asked Loki, incredulous.
Mobius looked troubled, almost sad, Loki dared to think, that he had asked that question, but he continued on his line of questioning, "Do you swear she didn't implant those memories in Hunter C-20?"
He wanted Mobius to believe him so badly, he almost begged, "Mobius, no. I believe her."
Mobius seemed to give in and suddenly Loki felt like he had his Mobius back, his prince. There was again that sparkle in his eyes that he loved so much.
He asked, "So, I just have to trust the word of two Lokis?"
Loki swallowed, and decided that this time it was his turn to offer his hand. He said a little timidly but no less determinedly, looking at Mobius with his head to the side, "How about the word of a friend?"
Mobius looked genuinely surprised, then exhaled softly, as if in relief, before continuing, "You were right, about the TVA. You were right from the beginning. And if you wanna save her, you need to trust me. Can we do that?"
He didn't wait to agree, because despite everything, his trust in Mobius had remained unshaken.
Mobius sighed again, and this time the relief was obvious.
"Okay."
Mobius continued at once, "You could be whoever, whatever you wanna be, even someone good."
Loki's throat tightened with so much emotion that he was unable to respond.
Then Mobius added, "I mean, just in case anyone ever told you different."
Loki couldn't hold back the smile that blossomed on his lips as Mobius walked towards the Timedoor. If he wasn't already in love with Mobius, he would have fallen in love right then and there.
However he couldn't just let him go like that. Not without talking about what he'd just discovered, because Loki knew exactly what it felt like when your whole world was crumbling under your feet and he didn't want Mobius to follow the same path as him.
He pulled him by the sleeve.
"Mobius, wait!"
"What? Is something wrong?" asked Mobius, turning around.
"Is something wrong? I'm not the one who was just told that his whole life, what he was fighting for, the world he lived in, was a lie! Believe me, I know what that feels like! So this is me asking you, how are you Mobius?"
He saw the realization of the magnitude of what he had discovered suddenly fall upon Mobius. He saw him lose his footing and literally collapse from the shock.
He helped him to sit down on the floor and while encouraging him to regain a normal breathing rhythm, he asked him, "Mobius, I need to know, first if you can close the time door and second, I need to know how time flows here?
Mobius closed the door with a gesture and replied with a broken voice, "In this cell, it's as if time doesn't flow outside, so no matter how long we spend here, it will take Ravonna and the Hunters a little while to find us."
"Good."
After a few moments of silence, Mobius spoke up, "You know what torments me most now that I know? I wonder if I'm real. Is what I have experienced real? And if what I believe or have believed, was it real for a moment?"
Loki's heart broke as he heard this. The most real man he had ever known was wondering if he was real.
Loki tried to reassure him and seeing that he was not convinced, he showed him by thought with the help of magic, what made him real in his eyes. He showed him all the intimate moments they had shared, the first time Mobius had said he believed in Loki, their first kiss, the second, all the moments of happiness Mobius had given him since their first meeting. And he told him.
For the first time Loki witnessed Mobius' insecurities and for the first time Loki was the one who could reassure him.
Mobius asked him, his voice slightly hoarse, "If this is all fake, then who am I really?"
Loki replied with a smile, "We'll search together."
They had remained entwined for a few moments before walking through the Timedoor together, ready to face their enemies, whoever they were.
Loki and Mobius were smiling at each other, when they were stopped by Ravonna and a group of hunters with their batons pointed at them.
In a daze, not realizing what was happening, Loki saw Mobius handing over his Tempad to Ravonna and there was a moment of silence.
Then Mobius spoke with emotion in his voice, "You know where I'd go if I could go anywhere? Wherever it is I'm really from. Yeah, wherever I had a life before the TVA came along. Maybe I had a jet ski. That's what I'd like to do. Just riding around on my jet ski."
As he spoke, Loki had been watching him, not wanting to understand what was going to happen when suddenly Ravonna's icy voice enunciated two simple words, " Prune him!"
And there before his eyes, Mobius disintegrated.
"Noooo!!"
Mobius! Mobius!
Loki had only this thought, only this name in mind as the hunters dragged him to the elevator.
As they waited, Loki tried to contain the emotion that threatened to overwhelm him like a tsunami.
Mobius, snatched away from him when they had only just found each other!
Another group arrived and went next to them, it was Sylvie who was also held back by hunters.
Sylvie looked at him and asked, "You're okay?"
Loki lowered his head, and answered her in his head.
'No, I'm not okay, I'll never be okay again. They took Mobius. They took him from me, Sylvie.'
'Loki, I need you, I can't fight on my own, I swear I understand your pain, I promise you, you know I know you like I know myself, but I need you, please!'
'Am I only condemned to have those I love and who love me ripped away from me?'
'No Loki, I promise you that this is not your fate. Please, I need you! "
Loki clenched his fists, and walked with the others to the elevator.
Loki tell me you are with me!
He raised his head.
I'm with you.
For Mobius, he had to finish what they had started.
For Mobius, who had always had faith in him, he would fight.
For Mobius, who had seen good in him, he would keep going.
At Sylvie's side, they entered the battle, fighting fiercely to face the Timekeepers, Ravonna and the other hunters on the ground.
One of the Timekeepers tried to provoke Sylvie, "You're a child of the Time-Keepers too, Sylvie. We can talk."
"Oh, yeah?" Sylvie threw her sword, which sent the middle Timekeeper's head flying. The head rolled to Loki's foot. As Sylvie was about to throw her sword again, Loki stopped her. He couldn't believe what he was holding in his hands.
"Fake. Mindless androids. It never stops."
Loki breathed heavily, then asked, "Then who created the TVA?
"I thought this was it."
"Sylvie..." Loki had to tell her something. He had wasted too much time. It had cost him Mobius. He had to tell her.
"Not another pep talk, please." begged Sylvie.
"No, I have to tell you something. We will figure this out."
It was his job to tell her that, he was the one who was able to cheer now. He was the one who was strong. Sylvie and Mobius had made him strong, Sylvie by showing him that he could love himself and Mobius by showing him that he could love and be loved by others.
"How do you know that?"
"Because, uh... Well, back on Lamentis... This is new for me. Um..." Why on earth was he still unable to express himself when it came to emotion.
He tentatively put his hands on her shoulders in an awkward motion.
She looked at him strangely, "What? What is it?"
Then...
Nothing.
He woke up with the sensation of a graze on his face.
He opened his eyes.
"You!"
His Mobius, leaning over him, was running his fingertips over his face and looking at him with so much love in his eyes.
This time he could not hold back his tears and they quickly overflowed from his eyes.
"You have been disintegrated! I saw it with my own eyes!"
Mobius wiped his tears with his thumbs as he went along. He still answered with a smile.
"You too."
"Where are we?"
He looked around, and a strange landscape appeared before his eyes as he straightened up. A strange mix of Asgard and a beach in the sun, between sky and earth. As if two worlds were colluding.
Both their worlds, his and Mobius'.
He finally got up and found himself facing Mobius who was waiting.
Their eyes met and carried away by the urge, they threw themselves into each other's arms and kissed passionately, putting all their emotions into the kiss. It was so right and so perfect.
When they parted panting, Loki pressed his forehead to Mobius' and whispered, "Don't leave me, don't ever leave me, promise me."
Mobius shook his head and moved back a little. "I can't promise you that, Loki, not yet. We're going to have to part again, you know that don't you? Our task is not over."
Loki's throat tightened, "Mobius, what? no?"
"I got here before you, so I'll have to leave before you."
A glow began to spread behind Mobius.
He began to speak very quickly, "Loki, listen to me! I am not dead, I am not gone. When you wake up, think of me. I am still here. You'll have to find me. We will break the curse that separates us! Our love is stronger than anything, no hell, no heaven, no time keepers, no one will separate us! I swear to you that we will find each other. Don't ever lose your faith! I will always have faith in you."
Then Mobius placed his lips on his, kissed him softly before stepping back and walking towards the vortex that had just opened, he looked back one last time, "Loki, we will find each other again because what binds us is stronger than anything. I love you."
The vortex closed on him.
Loki was alone again.
He was stunned, Mobius' words echoing in his head.
He wiped away his tears, then sat on the ground and waited.
Looking at the landscape in front of him, he imagined that one day he would take Mobius to see Asgard and that Mobius would take him to one of those sunny beaches he saw on his Jet-ski magazine and laugh at him on his jet ski.
Then he put those uncertain dreams away in the back of his mind. He would have to fight the fight of his life. He would have to fight for his family. His thoughts went to Sylvie and Mobius.
A few minutes later the same vortex opened. Loki stood up, clenched his fists, and walked toward the vortex, saying with a very resolute face, "I'm going to find you. Mobius, Sylvie, wait for me!"
He went through the vortex.
Then nothing. Again.
Suddenly he gasped as if to catch his breath after holding it for so long.
He opened his eyes and asked, "Is this Hel? Am I dead?"
A deep voice rose from above him, "Not yet. But you will be unless you come with us."
He stood up and faced what seemed to be three, no four if he was to judge by the crocodile, four versions of Loki.
Behind them, an apocalyptic New York was unveiling.
That's when he realized, what Mobius had said was true. They were not dead. If Loki wasn't dead, then Mobius wasn't either.
And as he followed the Lokis, only one thought swirled in his mind, one word.
Mobius.
This time he was no longer overcome with despair, this time in him strong and fighting there was a hope born of love.
Mobius wait for me! I come to you! I will find you!

Obsession {Thranduil x F! Reader}
Tumblr media
Authors note: So, this is a more happy-ending version of my Thranduil fic ‘Crazy’. It is nearly three times as long and my best fic yet (in my opinion). Note: I am writing a part two that will have smut if anybody is interested in that.
Warnings: Yandere themes, obsession, nothing too crazy
Word Count: 3043
Part Two (Smut)
The sun spilled over the tree branches, golden light highlighting a halo around her head. The aged book made her hands look so delicate and small as she read page after page, her mind far from reality as she delved deep into old lore. She was perfect. Thranduil stared with infatuated eyes, his chin propped up on his hand as he watched from a few trees away from her. Her features were ethereal, it seemed impossible for her to be human, but Thranduil knew she was sadly so.
He watched as her concentration was broken, the change in her eyes as she drifted back into reality, confusion overtaking her features. Listening closely, his eyebrows furrowed as he heard several females walking down the path, their high pitched cackles filling him with disdain as he watched her slowly rise.
“She’s such a bore!” The taller one groaned, holding her arms over her head to cool off from the sun’s heat.
“She never wants to do anything, she only wants to stay at home and read her books.”
Her expression changed from excited to confusion, hurt lacing over her features as she rested her head on the thick oak’s trunk.
“I don’t see why you both keep trying to invite her out then,” The smaller one spoke to the other two girls, huffing her hair out of her face. “You only asked her to be your friend so you could possibly court her brother instead,” She reminded, “-And then he died with the rest of his travelling company whilst going to Esgaroth.”
Biting her lip, she sank back to the ground, clutching her book to her chest. Unshed tears lining her eyes as she processed the conversation she heard.
“Interesting…” Thranduil mumbled, a smirk forming on his face. “She’s even better than I thought.”
Thranduil watched as his angel packed up her belongings, her gentle smile now replaced with a narrow frown as she disappeared from his sight.
“Soon my starlight, very soon.” He promised, as if she was upset about having to leave him.

The market was scuttling, people scurrying from one stall to the next, filling their wooden baskets with produce and trinkets to take home. The air was filled with the smells of sauces and freshly baked goods, the hollars of vendors trying to sell their goods filled your ears as you slipped through the crowd, your empty basket clutched to your chest as you avoided getting trampled over by the crowd.
Taking a deep breath, you smoothed out your skirt before you approached your favorite vendor, the farmer.
“Good morning Lady (Name)!” He greeted happily, finishing wrapping up some freshly made cheese.
“Good morning,” You responded with a small smile, examining the lettuce. “I have a deal going on today, five items for one silver coin.”
Your eyes widened in shock, “Really?” You questioned as you felt your smile widen as well. “Must’ve had a wondrous harvest then?” You asked as you grabbed lettuce, a tomato, a few carrots, and a stock of celery.
“Wondrous indeed.” He smiled at you as you passed him the coin from your purse. “Well, may good harvests continue to find you.” You bid your farewell as you move further down the market stalls.
“Oh my…”
“Is that--”
“King Thranduil!”
The crowd was reduced to gasps, everyone bowing once they saw their king approaching on his mighty elk. A small gasp left your throat as you saw him approach, carefully adjusting your skirt to bow as well. Thranduil held a gentle smile on his face, waving away everyone’s formalities as he dismounted.
“Now now everyone, no need to get into a fuss,” He teased as he began looking through the stalls, a thoughtful expression on his face as everyone went back to their business.
“Looking to start a new project?” Old Lady Idra questioned you as you approached her stall, eyeing the silvery blue ball of yarn. “I was thinking of making a new blanket for my bed, the winters have been getting colder and colder,” You explained, looking at her selection.
“Is that so?” Thranduil’s voice startled you, making you drop the yarn ball you were holding.
“My apologies, I didn’t mean to startle you.” Thranduil apologized while he picked up the yarn ball, carefully placing it in your hands.
“Oh no, no need to apologize, My King.” You bowed your head in respect, moving to get out of his way so he could examine Idra’s stall.
“No need to move, I apologize for interrupting. I was concerned when you said the winters are getting colder?” Thranduil frowned slightly when he noticed you wouldn’t look him in the eye.
Carefully tipping your chin upwards, Thranduil grinned when you finally made eye contact. A blush formed on your cheeks as you smiled back. The smell of him filled your nostrils, his beauty stunning you from being so close. A warm feeling bloomed in your stomach as you two locked eyes. “Ah,” Snapping yourself out of your trance, you nodded, fighting the urge to drop your gaze. “Yes, the winters are getting colder. At least on the northern tip of the kingdom...” You explained carefully, not knowing how the southern half was faring weather wise.
Nodding Thranduil removed his hand from underneath your chin, fighting the ever growing urge to pull you into his embrace. Your voice rings like a beautiful melody in his ears. “Well, thank you for letting me know. I will arrange for more firewood to be sent up north when winter gets closer.”
Nodding, you gave him a smile as he stepped away from you, Lady Idra watching with a quirked brow.
“Well… I better get going.” You announced, giving him and Lady Idra a nod, fishing through your purse to pull out a few coins to pay for your yarn.
Thranduil’s larger hand overshadowed yours however, placing a gold coin on the counter.
“Have a wonderful day, ladies.” Thranduil dismissed himself, giving you a fond smile, his hand twirling a strand of your hair before he made his exit.
“What in Valar’s name did you do to catch the King’s eye?” Idra questioned, a knowing smile on her face as you shook your head, a vibrant flush on your face. “I wish I knew,” You laughed softly, holding your basket close to you as you bid her farewell, you too exiting the market.

.
The day felt like it went by in a blur, thoughts of Thranduil drowning your being as you rested your head against the wall above your bed. Your knitting needles and yarn being long forgotten. The memory of his smell, his beauty and the intensity of his gaze now burned into your mind.
“Thranduil,” You mumbled, the very mention of his name soaking your tongue like fine wine as your mind wandered, daydreams of a future together blurring your reality.
“How I wish you were mine,” Your eyes slowly opened, half-lidded as you stared out the window. The kingdom standing proud amongst the trees, a demented sigh leaving your lips as you reached out to press your hand against the cool glass.
---
“King Thranduil,” Thranduil’s advisor knocked softly on his study door, opening it once he received a grunt in response. “You asked to pull all documents pertaining to (Name), of (Father Name)?”
“Correct.” Thranduil’s advisor knew not to question his reasoning for wanting such documents and handed them to him. “Here they are. Birth records, land deeds, reports, anything and everything that mentions her name.”
“Thank you, you are dismissed.”
Searching through the documents, he felt closer to you than ever before. Knowing where you were born, how large your family was, what you did for a living, who you lived with, if you were married. He couldn’t wait to ask you more personal details though, things that aren’t documented.
Did you prefer white wine or red? What books were your favorites, and why? What did you love to do on a rainy morning? Who did you love?
A coy smirk formed on Thranduil’s face as he sat down the documents. Remembrance of your smile, the blush forming on your rosy cheeks, the lovely sound that is your voice consumed him. Looking out his window, Thranduil imagined what your home looked like in the north, how desperate he was to be by your side at every waking moment.
“My queen will soon be home, where she belongs.” Thranduil vowed, making servants passing by pause in fear. Fear for the life that would be disrupted as a result of a toxic obsession.
“Very very soon.” He muttered to himself as he filled a goblet full of a blood red wine.
That night you were left restless, wanting to lay in bed with your eyes shut as your imagination wandered through crafting scenarios with your beloved.
As dawn rose you lifted your eyes from their curtain of darkness, watching as hues of dark blue shifted into ones of gold and red, a gorgeous sunrise to soften the blow of reality.
A frown etched on your face. “He’s a king,” you reminded yourself, “At least you can dream…” You recalled the words of your so called friends only a day ago, “He wouldn’t want such a bore anyways.”
Fetching your shawl, you covered your shoulders from the cold as you walked down to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. Cutting up your tomatoes, you jolted as you heard the doorbell ring, wincing as you felt your blood rise to the surface of your finger.
Cursing you brought your finger to your mouth. “Coming.” You called out, pulling your shawl tighter around you as you moved to open the door.
“King Thranduil?” You gasped, pulling your finger out of your mouth. “W-What do I owe the pleasure?” You questioned, realizing just how much of a mess you looked in front of him. “My apologies, I wasn’t expecting anyone…”
Thranduil had to pause. The way the early morning sun hit your bare collarbones, how your hair was slightly ruffled from sleep and so carefree looking pulled at his heart. Clearing his throat he gave a small smile. “Forgive me for showing up unannounced, I wanted to check to see if you slept alright? Last night was particularly cold and I recalled you saying your blankets were no longer adequate.”
“Oh!” You shook your head with a smile. “I didn’t get much sleep I’m afraid, but I was plenty warm.”
Thranduil heard every word you spoke, but his attention was now focused on your hand cradled to your chest. “You’re hurt.”
“Ah, yes… The bell startled me, I was in the middle of preparing breakfast when you arrived, I knicked my finger,” You held up the finger, showing the perfectly rounded bulb of blood on the tip.
“Oh my… Because of me,” Thranduil surmised, moving to carefully hold your hand in both of his, successfully pushing his way into your home.
“Oh no, not at all!” You hurried to correct yourself, not wanting him to be upset.
Instead of responding, Thranduil brought your finger into his mouth, sucking off the blood with a determined look on his face as a blush formed over your cheeks. “Oh my…” You muttered, your heart fluttering in your chest as you gulped.
“Because I caused your injury, I must atone for your pain… Would you like to join me for breakfast?” Thranduil spoke once he removed your finger from his mouth, concern on his features.
“You don’t have to do that, King Thranduil, ‘tis no one’s fault but my own.” You smiled, despite your internal self screaming at you for denying his offer. “I wouldn’t want to further interrupt your morning.”
“I just wanted to help you... I just wanted to be there for you...” Thranduil muttered, dropping your hand, refusing to meet your eyes.
“I’m sorry, I clearly overstayed my welcome.” Thranduil stood stiff, the rejection of your words seeping into him like knives as he moved to open the door and take his leave.
“No, no, that’s not it at all,” You called out, moving to grasp his hand, tugging him back to you. “You’re a king,” You began to explain yourself, “I’m just a lowly girl, a bore… I don’t deserve to even be in the same room as you, much less deserving of dining with you… Do you see?” Your eyes held sadness as you forced yourself to realize your reality. You were just a lowly girl. No chance to be with a king. No matter how your obsession for him threatened to consume you.
“You see yourself as lowly?” Thranduil furrowed his brows, his heart pounding at your declaration, his heart hurting at the thought of you thinking so lowly of yourself. “My darling, you are a goddess, a gift from Valar…” Thranduil cupped your cheeks, wiping a tear that you didn’t know had even sprung from your eyes.
“I know you don’t know me well.. But… I want to tell you I love you until my throat bleeds. I want to hold you close on dark endless nights, make love to you until the sun rises, celebrate feasts of starlight with you until time itself ends.”
“King Thranduil---”
“Thranduil, just call me by my name my starlight,” Thranduil all but begged, pressing his forehead against yours.
“T-Thranduil… How long have you felt this way?” Your heart was erratic, your soul howling for joy at the thoughts of your love being requited.
“Since the moment I laid eyes on you, darling.”
Instead of responding with words, you responded with action, pulling him closer by the nape of his neck, your lips coming together in a passionate dance.
“Let me love you?” Thranduil questioned against your lips, relishing in the feel of your skin against his. “Always,” You mumbled in response, pulling away ever so slightly, brushing your noses together as he tugged you closer.
The past week felt like a blur, after Thranduil confessed his love for you, you two have been inseparable. Your belongings were moved into his castle that evening, and your life changed overnight.
Going from wearing homemade skirts and dresses to luxuriously made dresses just to your measurements, you felt like a princess in a fairytale.
“Lady (Name)?” A servant called from outside, worry clear in her voice. “Yes?” You responded after putting on the earrings Thranduil gifted you the first night you stayed in his castle.
A relieved exhale left her, knowing you lived through another night. It was no secret what their king did to the brides that refused his ‘love,’ nor was it a secret of how brutal their endings were.
“King Thranduil requests you join him for breakfast.”
Smiling you brushed your hair with your hands one last time. Excited to know he wanted you to be with him.
“I’ll be out in a moment, is he in his study?” You questioned, knowing he liked you two to eat outside of prying eyes.
“Yes m’lady.”
“Wonderful, thank you.” You smiled despite the fact she couldn’t see you, listening to the sounds of her feet pattering down the hall until she was gone.
Walking down the hall, you smiled at each servant you passed, waving slightly as you maneuvered the twists and turns of the labyrinth of a castle.
“Thranduil?” You called out, your knuckles rapping softly on the door of his study. The sounds of books falling over within his study made you jump. “Thranduil, are you okay?” You questioned, pushing open the door.
“No!” Thranduil yelled out, turning to push you back as you began to enter.
“My love, what’s wrong?” You questioned again, fear in your eyes as he looked at you wildly.
“You weren’t supposed to get here so quickly…”
Your eyebrows furrowed in confusion, looking to the mess of books on the floor behind him. “I’ll help you clean up and we can have breakfast okay?” You reached out to cup his cheek, a smile on your face.
Thranduil’s wild expression dissolved as your hand touched his cheek, nuzzling into your hand and pressing a kiss to your palm.
“I’ll clean it up, don’t worry about it my starlight, it’s okay,” Thranduil urged you away from touching them, causing you to laugh. “It’s okay darling, I don’t mind, it’s not like they’re going to hurt me,” You joked as you sunk to the floor to pick them up.
‘Immortality,’
‘Necromancy’
‘Human Mortality’
The book titles made you curious, tilting your head as you lifted them up. Then you noticed how quiet Thranduil had become.
Placing them back on the bookshelf, you turned to face him only to jump, noticing how close he was to you.
“Thranduil?”
“What do you think of those?” Thranduil questioned, memories of his previous love’s voice alarming in his ears, the refusal of his affection still stinging his heart despite having a new love to focus on.
“They are… interesting topics,” You smiled, not too sure where he was going with his questioning.
“What if…”
You tilted your head as he struggled to seem to find the words to say to you, his chest beginning to heave with panic.
“Thranduil, my love, calm down…” You spoke softly, rubbing his arms up and down.
“What if… I was able to find a way to make you immortal… To be with me forever?”
Your silence was deafening, Thranduil’s own thoughts began to swirl in his head as you struggled to find your words.
“You love me that much? That you want me to be with you forever?” You questioned, your stomach flipping, your insides feeling warm as happy tears sprung up in your eyes.
Thranduil’s eyes snapped to yours, his thoughts of rejection and murder leaving him as he processed your reaction. “I’ll do whatever it takes if it means we’ll be together forever, my sweet.” He responded while wrapping his arms around your waist.
“I’d do anything for you,” His words were laced with honey yet lined with barbs, the meaning of his words sweet yet unnerving as he pulled you into his embrace.
“I love you,” You mumbled into his chest, moving your own arms to embrace him in return. Your words shooting lightning into him, his eyes widening as euphoria surged through his being.
“-And I you.”

Links and Titles to works of 2021:

[Never Have I Ever] don’t underestimate the making of life (11,290 words) - When Devi and Paxton start dating, Ben becomes his new peer tutor. The result isn't what any involved expected.
Favourite fic: Of the ones I wrote this year, definitely don’t underestimate the making of life, but overall, without a single doubt it’s i’m forever chasing after time
Hardest fic: Uh.... I don’t know? Writing is hard, so I think for each fic I’ve written there’s likely something particular I struggled with, one fic doesn’t particularly stick out as the *hardest* though
Do I plan to take prompts in 2022: I’d definitely attempt them, if people sent some my way
What was the best thing about 2021: My friends, who are amazing and supportive and always there for me, despite how much I wouldn’t stop talking about one particularly thing this Fall (I don’t even have to say what it is, I know they’ll know haha). Also, my biology song parodies
What was the worst thing about 2021: The first half of the year before I was fully vaxxed and when I hadn’t seen my friends in person for 1 year + was hard, and currently, bullshit regarding finding a supervisor for my honours thesis is stressful as hell
Any last thoughts for 2021: Definitely a year of ups and downs, here’s hoping 2022 is at least a little bit better
Goals for 2022: Write more than I did in 2021, if I have the inspiration and energy

---
Chapter Eight
Marinette stared down the scuffed floor of the stair landing, if only to hide the sting in her eyes and what it truly meant. She blinked – once, twice, thrice – and clung to the carton of macarons, so hard the cardboard let out a faint crack beneath her fingertips. She was waiting outside Alya’s apartment: the third wheel to a bicycle, soon to be the fifth to a quad bike. Not that she was mad. Well, not at Adrien.
She’d suggested a candlelit dinner. She’d told him to ask Kagami out properly. She’d planted the seeds in his mind. And God, if the night of Glaciator was anything to go by, she’d bet her earrings he’d planned the most swoon-worthy of dinners. Had he decided Kagami made him happier than Ladybug? Did he plan to make their relationship official? To make her his girlfriend?
Adrien’s polished shoes shifted from the corner of her eye. “Marinette?” The concern that coated his voice had her lifting her head. “Are—”
The apartment door squeaked open, and the familiar herbal scent of Marlena’s houseplants flooded the stairwell.
“Why hello, boy and girls!” Alya’s eyes zipped across the three of them. “Weiiird. It feels like we talked just seconds ago!”
Adrien’s eyes snapped ahead, model smile at the ready. “Hey, Al,” he said, readjusting the pizza boxes. “You took the words right out of my mouth!”
Kagami offered a little half-bow. “Thank you for welcoming me into your home.”
“S’all good, Kagami!” Alya's attention turned to Marinette, and her grin wavered.
"Uh - Hi, Al!" Marinette pasted on a smile. "I'm here on time for once!" Had her hands been free, she’d have whipped out some jazz hands for extra oomph.
Alya shook her head. “Dang, girl! You sick or something?” She stepped aside with a lively, “Come on in, squad. Shoes can stay on.” She eyeballed Adrien. “Being exposed to your shoeless feet once was enough for me.”
His ears reddened. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
The image of Plagg’s gooey Camembert squelching around in his shoes hit Marinette and suddenly, her smile came more freely. They had another joint patrol tonight. She’d have to ask him where he stowed it all.
They’d just crowded in the entry hallway when Nino bounded on up, his sneakers pounding on the parquet floor. “Hey, ma dude!” He threw an arm around Adrien, nearly bowling him over. “Thanks for keeping the pizzas away from Marinette.”
“Marinette was bluffing,” Kagami interjected, her lips splitting into an awkward grin. The corner of Marinette’s own mouth rose in recognition. “She led us up the stairs right after making her threat. She never intended to eat the pizzas without you.”
Two seconds ticked by as Nino and Alya bore witness to Kagami’s pearly whites. “Err,” Nino drawled, first to shatter the silence. “Riiight.” He pulled his trademark finger guns.
“Yo, Kagami!” Alya planted a hand on her hip. “Ready for the grand tour? Adrien, you might as well tag along.”
Marinette didn’t miss the scheming glint in Alya’s eyes as they swept from Kagami to Adrien, then her to Nino. “In the meantime, babe, can you give M a hand with fixing things up?”
Nino readjusted his cap. “You got it, Al.” He reached for the pizza boxes in Adrien’s arms. “I’ll take those off your hands, bro.”
The instant he did, Kagami took Adrien’s hand in hers.
“Alrighty, ladies and gents!” Alya nodded toward a lone door on her left. “Right there is the bathroom, where yours truly fabulizes herself every morning.” After a sassy flick of her fiery hair, she gestured to the pale wall on their right, which stretched to the far end of the apartment, its surface busied by tribal masks and animal paintings. “All those doors lead to the bedrooms, which brings me to the most important part of our tour.” The volume of her voice faded as she led the hand-in-hand couple past the kitchen, the dining room, the lounge – all open-plan – and through the furthest door. “Here is your royal highness’ room!” She shut the door behind them.
“So,” Nino drawled.
Only then did Marinette realise she’d watched Adrien every step of the way.
Or rather, his hand.
In Kagami’s.
She ripped her eyes from Alya’s bedroom door and threw Nino her most inconspicuous smile, hoping it was enough.
“Do you – uh – like triple cheese?” He jerked the pizza boxes a little higher in his arms. “Could I interest you in a slice? Or two. Maybe three. As many as you need.”
“Triple cheese sounds great.”
With a nod, Nino led her down the short corridor, around the corner and into the kitchen. Red overran her vision, a result of the dated cabinets that lined the wall to their left. He laid the three pizza boxes across the island bench, her carton of macarons soon joining them.
Flipping back the lids, the aroma of melted mozzarella and spicy pepperoni warmed the air. In a matter of moments, napkins layered the polished bench before them, and pizza sagged between their fingers. One bite of pizza and her troubles seemed just a little smaller. Two and they were melting like mozzarella in one of those nifty clay ovens.
A self-assured voice travelled through Alya’s door.
“—our first date – couple—”
Was Kagami talking about tonight?
“—no doubt – perfect—”
Marinette squinted, like that’d help her hear bett—
Splat.
A glob of mozzarella slid off her steaming slice and onto the bench.
“Hey…” Nino’s voice was oddly gentle, much like his eyes when she met them. “I’m sorry about my dude. He’s pretty clueless sometimes.”
“What? No, I just—” Her sight sunk to the bench, zeroing in on the glob of mozzarella. She plucked it up, dumped it on her napkin, and sighed. “Sorry. I’m trying to get over him.”
Nino offered her a smile of solidarity. “It’ll be okay, M.” He propped his arms upon the bench, eyes sinking to his pizza. “I figured he’d tell me if they were official, you know?”
“Um – They’re not official?”
“They’re not?”
Wait.
Did Nino not even know?
“Well, uhh…” She toyed with the edge of her napkin. “Adrien told me he didn’t think they were official yet, despite what people have been saying. But they are going out on a date tonight, so...” Any words thereafter only clung to her tongue, refusing to be given voice.
“Really?” His brows squished together. “When’d he say that? How’d this even come up?”
“Well, I left my backpack at school yesterday, so he dropped it off. I took the chance to congratulate him and – uh – that’s when he asked for my advice.”
“Man,” he murmured, cupping his chin, “maybe I should talk to him. See where his head’s at.”
Marinette tensed. “Ju-Just – If you do, please don’t tell him I said anything. I – I thought you knew. And besides”—the volume of her voice dropped in time with her eyes—“Kagami’s right. I hesitated. I had my chance – heck, I’ve had hundreds of chances – but at the end of the day, I just can’t seem to bring myself to tell him how I feel.”
Nino shifted closer on his barstool and set a hand on her shoulder. “Well, Marinette, sometimes the slowest turtles are the ones that win the race.”
Images of a green-clad superhero played in her mind’s eye. She couldn’t help but giggle. He’d made a great Carapace. Goodness, even now, without the Turtle Miraculous, he was still looking out for Ladybug.
And now that she thought about it, maybe there was a truth to Nino’s words that even he was unaware of. The bond between Ladybug and Chat Noir was second to none, built from a year of blind trust and friendship. If Chat Blanc was anything to go by, a sudden confession from her could end the world. Perhaps things were better this way.
Bunnyx sure seemed to think so. She knew Marinette was Ladybug. It wasn’t a stretch to assume she knew Chat Noir’s identity too. Even Hawk Moth’s. When Timetagger terrorised Paris, Bunnyx had hopped in and suggested through flailing hand motions that love between her and Chat Noir would be messy. Was that because of timing? Or were they just not meant to be?
“Well,” Nino tore her from her thoughts, “the slowest turtle usually wins the race… but not in Mario Kart!” He grinned, prodding a thumb over his shoulder, toward the living room. “Ready to eat my dust?”
There was a glint in her eye. “May the fastest turtle win.”
---
Their pizzas downed, Marinette and Nino made their way onto the immense L-shaped sofa. Thumbs soon flicked joysticks. Fingers scurried across tiny buttons. An upbeat soundtrack bounced through the TV speakers. On a particularly tight corner, Marinette’s character drifted by Nino’s in a flash of yellow and pink.
He growled, gripping the controller tighter. “How are you so good at gaming?!”
She threw her nose in the air, a twinkle in her eye. “Practice.”
Seconds later, a turtle shell crashed into her character, lurching Princess Peach into the air. She didn’t lose first place, but that didn’t stop her from pouting. “How do you keep hitting me?! You can’t even aim the green ones!”
Grinning, he pinched the brim of his cap. “Practice.”
To the left of the TV, Alya’s bedroom door eased open, and the queen herself peeked through the crack. Seeming satisfied by the sight of them gaming up a storm, she swung her door the rest of the way and sashayed into the living room, Adrien and Kagami in tow. The latter stopped to study the screen. “Who’s winning?”
Adrien didn’t miss a beat. “Marinette, of course.” He ducked past the TV, careful of obstructing their view.
Her breath accelerated in time with the music tempo as she commenced her final lap. It had absolutely nothing to do with Adrien claiming the empty spot to her right, the sofa sagging a smidge beneath his weight. Kagami was close behind, and despite the minimal leg room, she squeezed into the actual corner of the L-shaped sofa, right beside him.
“Dude,” Nino was screeching, “you have so little faith in me!”
“Sorry, Nino.” Adrien let out a little laugh. “I’m sure you’ll beat her one of these days.”
“You are so not helping.”
Alya plopped down beside Nino and planted a peck on his cheek. “At least you’re not far behind, babe.”
“No, but I will be if you keep doing that.”
Not even a minute later, Marinette sprung to her feet with her fists in the air. “YES! I win! Marinette style! Booyah!” With a second fist pump, she almost lost the controller to the ceiling—but she didn’t, ‘cause she was a winner. And of course, that warranted a fervid victory dance, so she did just that; her hands swept from left to right and back again as she chanted, “Uh huhhh! Oh yeahhh! I’m the best! Uh huh!”
Her theatrics were only urged on by the laughter that layered the air (around eighty five percent of which might’ve just come from a certain kitty cat).
Nino thumped a hand on the round coffee table ahead. “I demand a rematch,” he squawked, “on two hundred CC!”
Marinette spared her nails a cheeky glance. “Ha! You’re on, chump.” In the wake of her victory, she was well on her way to feeling normal again. “Let Master Dupain-Cheng show you how it’s done!”
True to her word, she pulverized him.
---
For the next half hour, chit-chat and banter filled the airy apartment, as the quintet savoured their fill of pizza. Four slices remained, tucked away in a cardboard box on the coffee table for Luka.
A four-player game of Mario Kart had ensued.
Marinette was winning.
Adrien was hot on her trail.
Alya and Nino were half a lap behind, after two run-ins with a certain yellow fruit.
And Kagami was keeping a curious eye on the TV, no doubt making mental notes for her first attempt next round.
“Ready, guys?” Adrien jumped to his feet. “Here it comes.” His character, a burly ape on a hefty quad-bike, was fast approaching a ramp. “Donkey Kong dab in three, two, one!” He dabbed in time with his character, complete with a dramatic grunt.
Marinette’s eyes remained on the screen, but that didn’t stop a smile from puffing her cheeks.
Nino, adamant that “whole body steering” was a legit strategy, unknowingly tilted into her personal space. “Bro,” he exclaimed, “was the grunt really necessary?”
“Absolutely,” Adrien quipped. “It elevates the dab to a whole new level—”
“Babe,” Nino cut in, now leaning right into Alya’s space. “What’re you doing? Get outta my way. Get outta my way. Get outta my—”
“Nu uh, Nini! Get your stupid dinosaur outta my—”
“Dude!” He thumped his feet on the floor like Gigantitan 2.0, and Marinette’s eyes flicked to his section of the screen just in time to catch the tail-end of his kart spinning. “Another freaking banana?!”
“Ha!” Adrien voiced, triumphant. “Yes. Peel the pain of my slippery secret weapon!”
Alya snorted. “The pain of your puns isn’t bad enough?”
“Just call me Banadrien.”
“Bro? You can’t think up something better than that?”
Marinette’s smile turned wry. “Don’t you mean something more apeeling?”
Adrien gave a hearty laugh. “See? M gets it.”
She narrowly escaped an explosive, green turtle shell. Since when did Adrien use that nickna—
Gasping, she clutched the controller closer.
A certain pesky primate had crept into the corner of her screen.
“No no no no no!”
“Yes yes yes yes yes!”
She shoved her thumb against the accelerator button, so hard a tiny circle was surely forming on her skin. “Adrien, get your creepy ape away from me!”
“That was the perfect opportunity for a Planet of the Apes reference. I am so disappointed in you!”
Adrien’s conniving cackles enlivened the room, but now was not the time to admire the unbridled joy in his voice, nor the throatiness of his chuckles. Her face scrunched as she wrestled with her thoughts. For goodness’ sake, Kagami was sitting right next to him!
Holding her breath, Marinette dared a peek at the silent girl. Kagami’s hand cupped her chin, her eyes set on the screen. She eased her head onto Adrien’s shoulder—
Princess Peach zoomed straight over a poorly concealed banana peel, the wheels of her kart skimming the track with a dizzying spin.
His pesky monkey shot straight past and—
“NO!”
“YES!”
Kagami placed a hand on Adrien’s knee, which had bobbed wildly for most of the race. “Well done, Adrien,” she praised, patting his knee twice.
“It’s not over yet,” Marinette declared.
The music amped up, Adrien now in the lead and commencing his third and final lap. Marinette was close behind.
Alya unleashed a throaty groan. “Adrien, you and your bananas are driving me cray!”
“Dude! How many do you have?!”
Adrien sniggered. “I’m gonna hazard a guess and say a bunch.”
“But how?!” Nino screeched.
“I guess you could say they were ripe for the picking.”
Marinette rolled her eyes. “Gosh, Banadrien! Stop distracting me with your lame puns!” From her peripheral vision, she caught his grin inch wider. He leaned well within her bubble and her Chadrien Alarm™ blared like an air horn.
“Now you’re just hurting my peelings.”
Her heart thundered in her ears. She didn’t trust herself to speak. No, instead she elbowed his gut, which only encouraged another laugh. Suddenly, she was laughing too.
That is, until she glimpsed Kagami’s thumb shift a smidge atop the black denim of his jeans. Her hand hadn’t left his knee.
“M, you’re falling behind!” Alya cried, snapping her to attention. “Quick! Cut corners!”
“Find shortcuts!” Nino added.
“Run him off the track!” said Alya. “You don’t want him banana punning for the rest of the day, do you?”
Marinette giggled. “Shouldn’t you be taking your own advice?”
“Girl, we’re a lap behind.”
“Yeah, we’re just cruisin’ at this point. You’ve still got a chance!”
Marinette honed in on the TV. His quad bike was up ahead. Only half a lap remained. Things weren’t looking good, but that’s never stopped her before.
Her tongue peeked through her lips.
“Oh! Oh!” Alya made an exaggerated gasp. “She’s got her game face on, boys and girls!”
“She’s catching up!” Nino cheered.
They were right. So maybe if she really dug in and focussed—
“Say yellow to my triple bananas!”
Three slippery suckers clustered behind Adrien’s motoring monkey. He released the first.
She dodged it.
He let loose his second.
Another dodge.
The third.
Yet another dodge-a-roonie.
“You really aren’t living up to your nickname, Banadrien.” With a satisfying jingle, her character rocketed through a mystery box—but suddenly, she was whirling at the hands of a despicably well-placed banana. “WHAT!?” Her eyes bulged.
“You were saying?” He sent her his signature wink.
She sputtered—for words or air, she couldn’t be sure. That sly cat! Had he planted that sucker on their previous lap?
Donkey Kong whooshed over the finish line.
Nino and Alya’s jaws dropped in unison, their gasps rocking the room.
“Yea-hea-heah!” Adrien launched to his feet, Kagami’s hand falling from his knee, though the smile on her lips was as apparent as his excitement. He whipped out a fervent victory dab—once more in sync with his character. “Beat you by a banana split second. Adrien style!” With dramatic flair, he threw Marinette some dual finger guns. “Booyah!”
She burst into a fit of laughter. Gosh, if this was the price to pay for losing to her partner, she honestly couldn’t complain. “Next—“ She wheezed. “Next round I will reign victorious!”
His shoulders shook with his every snicker. “Seems our Gamer Princess is salty she got dethroned!” He flashed a smirk and suddenly, all she saw was her cheeky kitty. All she felt was a fierce thumping in her chest. And all she could do was beam up at that face and those eyes and the pure joy that sang within them.
Why yes, she’d been dethroned.
And if he acted like this every time, she’d lose again in a banana split second.

Kong: Skull Island- Wounds and Shrieks
Tumblr media
Pairing: Reg Slivko x Irene Brown
James Conrad x Irene Brown (brother-sister relationship)
Jack Chapman x Irene Brown (brother-sister relationship)
Summary: The gang has to fight for their lives in order to get off the island
Warnings: nastiness, cursing, fighting, getting hurt, screaming
Word Count: 3043
“Kong’s still down, we’ve got to move!” James’s voice reached my ears as we made our way through the jungle.
“What about Packard?” Jack shouted over his shoulder.
“Wouldn’t come!” James yelled back.
“Where’s Mason?” I asked, looking around.
“I thought she ran first!”
“She isn’t here!” Reles shouted from the front.
My eyes met James, wide and stinging. He shook his head at me, breathing heavy. I shoved my bow into Jack’s hand before running back to James. I yanked him by the wrist and ran back the way we came from, finding Mason standing at the opening of the clearing, camera up. James grabbed her by the waist the same way Jack had grabbed me and ran. She shouted in surprise, but hit the ground running once James put her down.
I ran ahead, hoping to catch up to Jack in time to get my bow back. I pushed past Reg, only to be pulled back by my neck. I turned and realized everyone had stopped a few yards before a clearing, quiet and tense. I shot Reg a questioning look. He took his hand off my neck and leaned down.
“There’s more of them.” He whispered.
“Why’re we stopping?” Mason panted.
“How many more?” I asked.
“Two.” Jack sighed, handing me back my bow.
I turned to look at James, and we were all breathing hard. He furrowed his eyebrows, eyes on the ground as he tried to think of something.
“Our guns didn’t do anything to it last time, how’re we gonna get through two?” Cole grunted.
“If your guns didn’t do anything, why did her arrows?” Mason asked, pointing to my bow.
“Aerodynamics, her arrows are sharper.” James scoffed with a wave of his hand. “We have to get past them at the very least.”
Trees rustled nearby, followed by the cry of the big Skull Crawler. I felt my heart tighten and I looked at James, antsy.
“How many arrows do you have left?” He asked.
“Fifteen last time I checked.” I answered, eyes on the forest in the opposite direction.
“Can you make it with that few?” His voice was filled with scrutiny.
“We don’t have a choice, that thing is coming.” I panted.
“We just have to make it to the boat.” Hank spoke.
“Is this even the right way?” Mills looked at James.
I looked at him too as realization dawned. Jack let out a breath and Reg scoffed. Mason shook her head.
“No. The boat’s the other way.”
Cole muttered something, and the movement in the trees seemed to get closer.
“Well we can’t go back that way. I’d rather take on two small ones.” I rushed out.
James closed his eyes and another shriek came.
“James, we gotta go.” I stressed, clenching my hand as I felt my jaw shake.
He sighed hard, opening his eyes. “Let’s go.”
“Guys, it’s dawn.” Mason broke in.
“Shit.” I whispered.
A tree cracked, not far from us.
“Shit!”
“Come on!”
We sprinted to the clearing, greeted by two very angry looking Skull Crawlers. James stepped ahead of the group as one creature snapped its jaw at us.
“Cole, Reles, Mills, Chapman. You take the one on the left. Marlow, Slivko, Irene, you’re with me on this one right here.” James spoke calmly.
I put my bow up and stepped to his side, overwhelmed once more by the stench.
“Irene, can we do what we did last time?” Jack called over to me as his group stepped aside, guns up as the animals eyed us.
I shook my head. “Three times sounds too easy to me.”
Mason stepped behind us, followed by Reg.
“What exactly did you do last time?”
“Ran at it with a knife.” I swallowed hard.
The Skull Crawlers moved forward, herding us all together into a circle in the middle. They howled at us. Someone whimpered, and I heard Hank say something in Japanese.
Death before dishonor.
“Right on, Hank.”
He lunged, slicing at one’s leg like he had in the graveyard, eliciting a screech from the animal. I got it in the mouth with an arrow, followed by the neck. It howled, shaking its tail at us. Jack and his boys were shooting at the other one. The Skull Crawlers moved in on us, shrill cries ripping at my ears.
“Aim for the eyes!” I shouted, doing exactly what I said.
I nailed the one assigned to me in the corner of its eye and it threw itself back and yelped.
“I got it!” Hank yelled as he saw me aim for it’s side.
He ran over and swung the katana, raking at the Skull Crawler’s green skin and exposing its ribs and insides for all to see. It stopped screaming, but we only seemed to make the other one angrier.
“Slivko!” Mills screamed.
I heard Reg grunt, then yelp. The remaining Skull Crawler had circled back around us, staring down Jack. James cocked his rifle from next to me.
“Irene, help Slivko.” He ordered, slowly stepping in front of me.
I sighed deep in my throat, sliding my bow down. I glanced between Jack and the Skull Crawler before walking backwards to where Reg was. I turned around to see Reg lying on his back and Mills hovering frantically.
“We’ve seen injuries before but I’ve never had to handle one like this.” He explained, his voice weak as I kneeled by them.
The Skull Crawler had dug its claw into Reg’s leg and yanked. From half calf to ankle was torn open and bleeding. I was thankful that his bones weren’t visible, but they might’ve just been hidden by all the blood.
“How’s it look?” James called out over his shoulder.
“Fuck if I know, I’m not a doctor!” I shouted back.
“Just stay calm, Ira.” Jack spoke this time.
Mason scrambled to our side, taking control of the situation. “Do you know what you’re doing?”
I shook my head. “I don’t know anything about this stuff.”
I heard James scream something to Jack, and the ground felt like it shifted. I looked over my shoulder to see the Skull Crawler snapping its jaws at Jack, who practically stumbled backwards onto the floor.
“We have to tie it off.” Mason said, eyes flickering between the creature and Reg’s leg.
My eyes snapped up to Reg’s red bandana. I crawled over him to take it off and toss it back to Mason.
“Reg, you need to stay awake.” I patted his cheek.
He groaned as I moved off to his side. I settled his head in my lap, grabbing his hand and squeezing.
“Reg, please.” I brushed his hair back, ignoring the dirt and sweat in it.
“It hurts.” He whispered, closing his eyes tightly.
“I know, Reg. I’m sorry.” I looked up at Mason, who I was waiting on my signal to wrap the bandana around his leg.
I nodded to her, squeezing Reg’s hand again and running my thumb across his forehead. He cursed, trying to pull his leg back. Mills called to Cole, who came running to hold him down.
“The Amazon.” Reg mumbled, eyes still closed.
“What?”
His eyes opened, lighter than I had seen them over the last few days. They were almost green.
“You never told me about the Amazon.” He grinned, but it turned out more like a grimace.
“What do you wanna know?” I asked, eyes darting up to see Mason getting ready to tie the knot.
“Everything.”
“I’m scared of spiders because my brother threw a tarantula in my hair when I was getting it braided.” I smiled sadly.
“How old were you?” He spoke through a wince, hand squeezing at mine, knuckles white.
“Five. It bit the girl that was braiding my hair.” I whispered as Mason tied the knot once more.
His face was pale and he cursed again, pushing his head back into my leg.
“That sounds horrifying.” He mumbled.
I looked back up to see that the boys were much closer, and the Skull Crawler now had eyes alternating between Jack and I. It growled.
“Stay awake. Please.” I leaned down and kissed Reg softly before moving his head off and springing to my feet.
I took my crossbow off and aimed at the Skull Crawler. It roared as the floor shook.
“Do you think that’s Kong coming to kill it?” Jack asked, voice trembling.
“What if it's the big one?” Reles piped up.
“I don’t know and I don’t care.” I hissed.
“I don’t want to be in the way.” James added.
“We have to get out of here.” Reles was behind us, but he had his gun up.
“No shit.” I growled.
I glanced at Jack, who was breathing heavy. He looked down at me, then back at the Skull Crawler. I looked at it. It wouldn’t break eye contact with him.
“We could just try that again.” I shrugged.
“You’re insane.” James scowled.
“You’re both out of ammo. Whatever is holding it back won’t last. We don’t have any other choices.” I aimed for the eye, the same as last time.
“Irene, I don’t-”
I cut James off with a shot to its eye. It howled. I shot at its throat. Reles shoved himself between James and I, shooting at its throat too.
“James, knife.” I held my hand out.
He sighed loudly before shoving the knife handle into my open palm. I shot the second of the final dozen of arrows, landing near the middle of its stomach. It screeched, throwing itself to its side.
Perfect.
I handed my bow off to James. Jack slung his gun over his shoulder. He grabbed my hand, pulling me to his side. We ran to it together, knives in hand. It thrashed as Jack pulled the arrow from its stomach, tossing it back to our group.
It flipped its arm around, sending Jack onto his back about a yard away. It was enough wiggle room for the Skull Crawler. I tried to find the hole my arrow made, but the creature flipped itself over and got to its feet, snapping its jaw at me.
I backed up slowly, holding the knife up as if it could protect me.
“Irene, cliff!” I heard Mason scream.
I didn’t dare take my eyes from the Skull Crawler, but I could hear the water rushing below.
“How far?” I shouted back.
“Maybe five feet!” Mills yelled this time.
I breathed deep as I stared the Skull Crawler down. I poised myself before running backward and throwing myself flat on the ground. It lunged at me before trying to skid on its claws, throwing its teeth into the ground in an attempt to catch itself from certain death.
I felt the muscle between the arms of my bone slice cleanly. The pressure made my brain boil as I let out a scream, throat burning. I flipped the knife in my sweating hand that wasn’t pinned down, jamming it into the creature’s snout as hard as I could.
It opened its jaws and left its tooth behind, screeching before falling down the cliff. I cried out for Jack and James, and then in my hysteria, Stephen, all while gripping the knife in my hand as my arm throbbed. There was bile rising in my throat as they ran over.
“Ire, I’m gonna need to stop the bleeding, okay?” James shushed.
I heard Jack mumble something about a tooth before pulling me to sit up, cradling my head to his chest. I felt James grab my quickly numbing arm, prying the knife from my fingers.
“This is going to hurt.”
My ears muffled themselves as James tore the offending reptile body part out of my arm. My scream diminished itself into a sob as I clutched at Jack’s shirt, the knife long forgotten. I felt him take an arm away, only to return it a second later, sleeve gone. James wrapped something around my arm, tying it tighter than Mason had tied Reg’s. Jack held me close and shushed me as my cries turned down to whimpers.
“You’re okay. You’re okay. I promise you’re okay.”
“Is it dead?” I finally asked after my breathing evened out.
“Lemme see.” Jack leaned to the side, and I looked up to see his leg hanging over the side of the cliff.
James was still grabbing my wrist, gentle with every controlled movement. Jack grinned, moving to squish my cheeks between his hands.
“Irene two, Skull Crawlers none.”
I heard Mason’s camera click twice before she spoke. “Let me see the tooth.”
The trees near the opening of the forest crashed, revealing the big Skull Crawler.
“No time!” Hank shouted from Reg’s side, pulling him to stand.
Reg let out a strangled cry as he tried to balance himself, letting his toes touch the ground before pulling his leg right back up.
“Let’s go!” James shouted, yanking me up from Jack’s grip and onto my feet.
He led us through the forest, crashing through branches and bushes and what I was hoping were not spider webs. Hank and Cole had Reg, but they were behind and couldn’t move any faster. Mills shouted for us to keep going, he would wait for them. Jack barked something back and Mills came with James, Mason, and I. Jack stayed to wait.
My arm throbbed and acid ate at my throat as we ran. The floor was shaking under us, and for a minute I felt like I was dreaming. My ears tried to muffle themselves over, but it didn’t work. We reached a clearing to the river. It wasn’t where we had left the boat.
“This is the edge of the island.” James panted. “Weaver, get up on those rocks and fire a flare.” James motioned to the rocks up the side of the mountain. “With any luck, Brooks will see it.”
The sound of more trees cracking came from behind, along with the shriek that would haunt me forever. James said something to Mason and they both nodded. She took the flare gun and ran. Reg grunted from between Hank and Cole. I looked over to see his leg bleeding hard. I felt my arm pulse.
“This way!” James started off along the edge of the jungle.
“Honestly, just leave me to die.” Reg moaned.
“Shut up!” Mills and I shouted at the same time, taking off after my brother.
James broke through the forest, and we were near the water again. He stood for a minute, before taking off again. “Come on, every second counts.”
As if on cue, the monster roared, closer to us than last time. Cole grabbed Mills by the shoulder and switched places with him, no longer holding Reg up. He motioned for them to go. Reles had already taken off with James.
“Cole, what’re you doing? Let’s go!” I panted, heart on fire.
“Go.”
“Cole!” I shouted, voice breaking.
“I’ve got a son that reminds me of you. He’s adopted. His name’s Stephen.” Cole let his gun drop and he pulled a paper from his pocket, shoving it in my hand.
“Cole man, come on. We gotta fall back!” Mills called out.
“Go live your life. Get out of here.” Cole smiled, turning around.
I lost my sense and tears welled in my eyes. He pointed again, telling me to go. He pulled explosives from the belt around his torso and took a deep breath. I sniffled before turning tail and running, crying the whole way. I heard the boys scream for him, but it was soon drowned out by an explosion and a shriek. I looked over my shoulder to see the fumes by the edge of a mountain. The Skull Crawler was unscathed and coming toward us. Jack pulled Mills back by the jacket. My ears finally went deaf as Mills cried beside me.
I shoved the picture in my pocket. Those were two hits I wasn’t prepared to take. James tugged me by the arm that wasn’t hurt, dragging me along in the water. I caught sight of Mason, climbing up the rocks like nobody’s business.
The water rushing behind us turned into small waves, and my hearing came back just in time for the cry of the Skull Crawler. We stopped and turned, eyes wide and mouths dropped open. James pushed me behind him. I gasped, looking to Jack. He was crying, holding onto his dog tags and aiming his gun with shaking arms.
Kong popped up from the side, out of nowhere, and hit the Skull Crawler’s head with a rock. It turned into dust and the Skull Crawler went down.
“Run!” Hank shouted, basically taking all of Reg’s weight onto himself and still moving faster than I could.
James pulled on me again, and I was essentially flying through the water alongside him. A symphony of shrieks and roars came to my ears, and I so desperately wanted to turn to see it. James kept his grip on me tight, and kept us moving. There was louder roars, more pain in them than before. The water rushed over us, almost dragging me down. My arm stung and I heard Reg wince. My heart pounded.
The flare went off and we all turned again, seeing Mason at the tip top of the rocks. I marveled at her. She would be my favorite woman from now until the day I died. The ground thundered again, and I looked at the fight to see Kong pulling a tree from the ground, using it as a bat. He hit the Skull Crawler in the face, sending it back against rocks. It was quick to bring itself back up, lunging at him and shrieking when it was caught by the neck. It wrapped its tail around Kong’s neck, sending him flying into a pile of rusty boats. He tried to bring himself up, but he had gotten caught in the chains of the anchors.
The Skull Crawler climbed over him, double tongue slipping over Kong’s snout. There was the sound of a machine gun, and the Skull Crawler turned in anger. I looked over to see the ploat, Houston shooting. I shouted out of joy, and James grabbed me by the wrist again.
