for me, armand's manipulation and obfuscation and lies are about his deep fear of discovery, not just of his crimes but of himself. he knows that when louis learns the truth it will be over, and he'll be alone, and if he's not with louis he's nothing, because who is armand if he can't be of service, if he's not loved, even if it's only a shadow of love, if he's not a thing that molds itself into any shape to get what he needs because he has no identity of his own? once louis learns the truth about the trial you can hear him desperately trying every excuse and explanation he can find - it's a forgery, santiago did it and i was forced to go along because he wanted me to suffer, okay maybe i did it but it was just one night 70 years ago and you are over this louis, you don't feel pain over it anymore, it's just an insignificant detail, you've forgiven me louis, we can go back to how things used to be, everything that gives you happiness gives me happiness. he has kept up this charade, this house of cards, knowing any day it might fall apart and when it does he still tries so hard to keep it all together because who is he without something or someone to fill his life? if he doesn't have marius or the children of darkness or the theatre des vampires or louis, then who is he? and is he maybe scared of what he'll find?

i know it seems like dnp only focus on the "you were all 14 when you starting watching us" part of the fanbase (which makes sense as that age group Was the most vocal & interacted with them in that specific way...)

but there was something so genuinely special about becoming an adult alongside dan and phil/ going through similar experiences & feelings at the same time with people who got you. it's SO beautiful that so many kids saw dnp as role models or parental figures and i LOVE that dnp take that responsibility with so much care, but navigating adulthood with people who were my peers and were also a little weird and nerdy and didn't have an interest in everything most people our age did brought me an immeasurable amount of joy and comfort too (and still do to this day!! as we complain about the back pain and revel in the confidence our 30s have brought us)

i just hope dan and phil know how much of an impact they've made on people who are their age (and older! shoutout to the many many "older than dnp club" members <333 what a gift to see these cool dudes become who they are with the wisdom and knowledge that comes from already having been there!)

like they ARE millions of peoples' dads, but they're also peers/friends from college/parasocial besties to tons of people too and it means the world to have gone through life with them <3 even if we don't make catchy slogans for hats or jokes we are for lifers asdafgkjs
