books that magically found their way into my home this month.
The Latern of Lost Memories by Sanaka Hiragi
Carmilla by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu
Medusa by Jessie Burton, wonderfully illustrated by Olivia Lomenech Gill
The Full Moon Coffee Shop by Mai Mochizuki
Sämtliche Erzählungen / The complete stories by Adalbert Stifter
Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones
What you are looking for is in the library by Michiko Aoyama
Selected Works of the Brontë Sisters
Sorcery and Small Magics by Maiga Doocy
Back in summer, I stumbled upon Sweet Bean Paste by Durian Sukegawa and I fell in love with its atmospheric simplicity while simultaneously addressing important issues like loneliness, illness and the societal discrimination that comes with it. I was intrigued to read more Japanese fiction, and it seemed like I wasn't the only one. Bookstores in my town jumped on this interest as well and in a section specifically decorated for Japanese fiction, I found The Latern of Lost Memories and What you are looking for is in the library.
Carmilla is a book that I absolutely adore and I've been eager to replace my worn-out edition, filled with post-its and notes, with a beautiful hardback version, and I've stumbled across this gem last week. I am just waiting for a rainy evening to cuddle myself into a warm blanket with some freshly brewed tea before I let myself get lost in this wonderfully haunting gothic classic.
Medusa has a special place in my heart as it quite beautifully rewrites the myth of the Gorgon monstrosity, highlighting the vulnerability of being human amidst unjust power dynamics. Medusa explores the difficulties and challenges of being a woman in a world made by men and also the struggles men eventually face in the world they've created against men and women. The narrative is both heart-breaking and heart-warming, capturing the complexities of gender in a profound way.
I couldn't resist taking The Full Moon Coffee Shop with me. There are cats on the cover, and the story revolves around a magically appearing café entirely run by cats. :3 I've got pretty high expectations of this little tale.
I also recently purchased Adalbert Stifter's "Sämtliche Erzählungen" to delve a bit deeper into the nuanced craftsmanship of this often-overlooked literary figure. Amongst lovers of his stories, he is celebrated for his profound exploration of nature, human emotion, and moral philosophy.
Howl's Moving Castle was a pre-order from Fairyloot, but I received it this month. Ugh, this book and the movie just feels like home to me, and I know that I am not the only one. I got a little teary-eyed because whenever I revisit stories, movies, or games from my childhood that have carved themselves into my heart, I realize how much time has passed and how fleeting life is, but it's a great reminder to appreciate the magic that not only surrounded us as children, but that is still there in adulthood. We just have to be willing to see it.
The Selected Works of the Brontë sisters consists of classics that are an absolute necessity to my little library. I've always loved classics where female characters and the portrayal of femininity challenge societal norms, a passion that began during my university days when I wrote term papers on gender and femininity in Victorian literature. The Brontës’ powerful narratives continue to inspire with their bold depictions of women navigating a heteronormative, restrictive society.
Sorcery and Small Magics was part of Fairyloot's October adult-subscription box that I receive monthly. It's the first book of "The Wildersongs Trilogy" and the story revolves around Leovander Loveage who specializes in small magics, like summoning butterflies or turning hair into different colours. Powerful spells always backfire on him, so he swears not cast them ever again. But after a forbidden spell binds him to his nemesis, Sebastian Grimm, they must find a counterspell, and their search leads them on a journey filled with monsters and outlaws, and Leovander needs to confront his true magical potential. Of course this wouldn't be a typical contemporary fantasy tale without some romance, so I expect a typical enemies-to-lovers story with this one.

Tea Runners (a Jewel Staite Co.)
Did you know that Jewel Staite founded a subscription box company?
According to their site, Tea Runners makes it easy for consumers to get their hands on wonderful teas. As opposed to popular options distributed by franchises and grocery chains, they provide options from small tea importers who have mastered the craft and Global Tea Championship winners who aren’t always easy to find.
With 4 different boxes, 3 deliver schedules, and over 30 teas to customize from every month, Tea Runners was top pick on Food Network’s list of 7 Best Tea Subscription Boxes list.
Tea Runners also sells teaware, gift baskets, and if there’s a particular loose leaf tea you want, it can be ordered without the subscription.
#obviously we're not affiliated or compensated for any of this#just that it's connected to jewel and by association so weird#and duh we're mostly adults who like food and drink tea and/or give gifts#jewel staite#tea runners#tea drinking#tea#tea time#spill the tea#so weird disney#disney so weird

How to Sell Specialty Teas to Health-Conscious Consumers - Basketleaf
With rising interest in wellness, selling specialty teas to health-conscious consumers is a great business opportunity, especially with a low initial investment. Specialty teas—such as organic, herbal, detox, and immunity-boosting blends—appeal to consumers seeking natural and health-enhancing options. Here’s a comprehensive guide to capturing this market while keeping your business costs low. Best business under 1 lakh
1. Understand Health Trends and Consumer Preferences
Begin by understanding what appeals to health-conscious consumers. Current trends include:
Natural Ingredients: Consumers prefer teas free from artificial additives.
Functional Benefits: Blends that promise benefits like improved digestion, stress relief, or immune support.
Sustainability: Environmentally conscious sourcing, organic labels, and eco-friendly packaging are valued by this demographic.
Knowing these trends will help you develop products and marketing messages that resonate with your target audience.
2. Curate Health-Focused Specialty Tea Blends
Focus on offering blends that meet specific health needs. Popular options include:
Detox and Cleansing Teas: Herbal ingredients like dandelion, ginger, and turmeric are known for detoxifying benefits.
Immunity Boosting: Green tea, echinacea, and elderberry are popular for their immune-supportive properties.
Stress Relief and Relaxation: Blends with chamomile, ashwagandha, and lavender appeal to those looking for natural relaxation.
If you’re creating custom blends, source quality ingredients and ensure they are fresh and certified organic where possible.
3. Educate Your Customers on Health Benefits
Health-conscious consumers value knowledge. Use educational content to inform them about the benefits of your specialty teas.
Website Content: Dedicate sections of your website to health benefits of each blend and key ingredients.
Blog and Social Media Posts: Share articles or posts about the role of natural ingredients in wellness, detoxification, or relaxation.
Product Packaging: Briefly highlight health benefits on your packaging. Use simple, clear language to connect with consumers quickly.
4. Use Influencer Marketing for Added Credibility
Partnering with influencers in wellness and health spaces can increase credibility for your tea brand.
Micro-Influencers: Many wellness influencers have a close connection with their followers, and their recommendations feel personal and trustworthy.
Collaborations and Reviews: Send tea samples for honest reviews, or collaborate on Instagram or YouTube to reach an audience actively seeking health advice.
Health Bloggers and Nutritionists: These professionals can share the benefits of your teas with a knowledgeable perspective.
5. Offer Free Samples and Starter Kits
Free samples and affordable starter kits attract new customers and allow them to experience your teas firsthand.
Sample Packs: Offer small samples or trial-sized packs for your most popular health-focused teas.
Subscription Boxes: Create a low-cost, health-themed tea subscription box, showcasing a new blend each month.
In-Store or Event Sampling: Attend health or wellness events to provide samples and meet customers directly.
Sampling not only boosts product trial but also builds trust, an essential factor for health-conscious buyers.
6. Highlight Certifications and Transparency
Health-conscious consumers value transparency. Highlight any certifications that your teas or ingredients have obtained, such as organic or fair trade.
Labeling: Clearly indicate certifications like “Certified Organic” on your packaging.
Ingredient Transparency: List ingredients in detail and emphasize the natural, organic, or ethically sourced aspects.
Sourcing Story: Share where your teas are sourced, especially if they come from small or eco-friendly farms.
Consumers are more likely to buy from brands they perceive as honest and committed to quality.
7. Create Engaging and Informative Content
Position yourself as an expert in the health tea market through content that engages and educates.
Blogging: Write about the health benefits of various tea ingredients, how teas can support wellness, and specific tea recommendations for different needs.
Video Tutorials: Share videos on tea brewing tips, wellness routines, or ingredient sourcing to make your content visually engaging.
Email Marketing: Use newsletters to share tips, benefits, and any new launches. This keeps you connected with customers and promotes consistent engagement.
Educational content helps consumers make informed choices and builds your reputation as a health-focused tea brand.
8. Use Eco-Friendly and Attractive Packaging
Environmentally conscious packaging appeals to both health-conscious and eco-conscious consumers.
Eco-Friendly Materials: Use recyclable, compostable, or biodegradable packaging. Consumers increasingly seek brands that reflect sustainable values.
Minimalist Design: A clean, minimalistic design conveys purity and appeals to the health-focused mindset.
Clear Health Messaging: Include concise information about health benefits and sourcing on the package to reinforce trust at first glance.
Attractive, sustainable packaging helps create a positive brand impression and makes your teas more giftable.
9. Participate in Health and Wellness Events
Events are a great way to directly connect with health-conscious consumers.
Wellness Expos and Markets: Participate in local health fairs or organic markets, offering samples and showcasing your products.
Pop-Ups in Gyms or Wellness Centers: Collaborate with fitness centers or yoga studios to set up a small pop-up or sample stand.
Online Health Forums: Join online wellness communities to share advice, promote your brand, and gather customer feedback.
In-person connections help build relationships with your audience and increase brand loyalty.
10. Incorporate Social Proof and Testimonials
Showcasing positive experiences from other customers reassures new buyers.
Testimonials: Feature customer testimonials that highlight specific health benefits, like feeling more energized or relaxed.
Social Media Tags: Encourage customers to share their tea experiences on Instagram or Facebook by tagging your brand.

The Down Under Queens have a message for Bob the Drag Queen
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/the-down-under-queens-have-a-message-for-bob-the-drag-queen/
The Down Under Queens have a message for Bob the Drag Queen
With season four of Drag Race Down Under about to drop, the Queens have a message for naysayer Bob The Drag Queen
When it comes to the worldwide Drag Race franchise, Down Under is never given the dues it deserves.
And while our Down Under Queens are often the butt of jokes online, Season four has shown they know how to play along.
Ahead of the premier, they drop a video on socials, calling on Bob the Drag Queen to give Down Under a chance.
Last year Bob’s TikTok stating ‘I’m so bored I could watch Drag Race Down Under’ went viral.
And although it’s all in jest (we hope), plenty of people jumped in the comments to agree.
While making camp content for their socials at the cast launch of Season Four, the Queens filmed a message for Bob.
In a hilarious video, they called on Bob to give season four a chance.
They even offered to pay Bob’s WOW Presents Plus subscription for two months.
That’s 10 US Dollars.
And the way the dollar is at the moment, that’s a sacrifice!
The Season 8 winner posted ‘Maybe y’all will be fun’ in the comments of the video.
Could this fan the winds of change for Drag Race Down Under?

‘Give more love to all the girls from Down Under’
Earlier this month we spoke with Drag Race Down Under Season 3 Winner Isis Avis Loren.
Who thoughtfully and calmly called those who underestimate Drag Race Down Under “a bunch of assholes”.
Calling on people to support their local franchise, giving the show, and the contestants more love.
“Queer people from down under need to be supporting these girls.”
“Show them love, see their shows and interact with them online.” Isis said
Read the full interview here.
But the question remains, is that something you are going to do?
With the first episode of the new season dropping this Friday on STAN, do the Queens competing have your support?
After all, by this time tomorrow one of them will be gone?
Want to follow them on instagram, you can find them easily here.
While a lot of the magic can be found in their instastories, some of the queens have been getting very creative.
Brenda Bressed has been building up her YouTube Channel, with a fantstic behind the sceens look at the launch.
It also has some great tea from their experiance on The Voice Australia.
youtube
Max the Drag Queen has dipped their toe into video content.
Max gets interviewed by local mean green machine Lynnduh on a spicy chicken parody spin off show “Fierce Ones”.
Get to know these down under drag queens whilst going up against their biggest opp… eating in drag!

And Lazy Susan (no stranger to socials content) gives us a peak in her hand bag.

Who are you cheering on?
With Michelle Visage in the hosting chair the first episode of the new season drops on STAN on Friday.
Butyou don’t need to watch it alone.
You can catch screenings of Drag Race Down Under in your local venues with Season 4 Queens at the helm.
As well as where they will be performing from week to week.
We can’t wait to see the queens enter the Werk Room and entertain us.
But whether your purchasing merch, cheering them on at local gigs or from afar.
Remember the imortal words of Art Simone’s Kick Ons.
It’s entertainment.
A reality show where people put on wigs and try to be fabulous.
Watching it shouldn’t make you want to tell the people starring on the program to quit drag or worse.

How many weeks do you think I can remember to post on Sundays without skipping?
Not even one apparently... Why am I like this?!?!?
Currently Reading:
Fiction:
Harrow The Ninth by Tamsyn Muir
Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation Vol. 1 by Mò Xiāng Tóng Xiù [K] [RR]
Can't Spell Treason Without Tea by Rebecca Thorne [K]

Wise Child by Monica Furlong ★★★★★ [RR]
General Reading Thoughts:
This September I'm giving myself 2 challenges!!!!
No fanfiction other than whatever my subscriptions shove into my inbox!
My first 3 TBR Jar pulls:
-A Classic -300+ Pages -A Book From My Newest Haul
Happy Reading!!!
Current Reading Tag || General Original Content || 2024 Reading Page
And a few more ramblings under the cut:
My plan to save Harrow for Spooky season lost against my mood reading cravings!
The MDZS reread is very low key. Probably my bedtime story more than anything else. Also hopefully to help with my fanfiction withdrawal considering how much of what I read is based off of this particular story!
Can't Spell Treason Without Tea is heading rapidly towards a dnf. The author openly talks about the heavy Legends & Lattes inspiration but wow is it a shallow imitation. Also not very cozy for a so called cozy fantasy.
I'm done with the Lady Emily series by Tasha Alexander. The first two were fun popcorn reads but the historical world-building/characterization feels weak. Luckily the others I owned were thrift store finds so I feel no guilt tossing them into little free library circulation.
TBR Jar Rules:
Pick prompts+books after main TBR for the month is created. No prompt fills from the already chosen books!!
No replacement prompts unless the pick is unfillable or incompatible with scheduling or one of my rare themed months.
No doubling. For example with my current picks if I read a 300+ page classic it only counts for one prompt! (This rule is the one most likely to change/be ignored I will admit)
Try to pick TBR veterans please!!!
Have Fun!!! This is a no punishment challenge and the reward is the reading!!!!

HOW A BOOK SUBSCRIPTION WORKS
A book subscription box is a service that delivers books and related items to subscribers on a regular basis, typically monthly. Here's a breakdown of how it works:
1. Subscription Sign-Up
Choose a Plan: Subscribers select a subscription plan based on their preferences, such as the number of books, duration (monthly, quarterly, yearly), and specific genres or themes.
Personalization: Some services offer personalization options where subscribers can specify their reading preferences, favorite genres, and reading habits.
2. Curation Process
Selection: A team of experts or algorithms selects books that fit the subscribers' preferences. This could include new releases, bestsellers, or lesser-known gems.
Themes: Some boxes are curated around a specific theme each month, such as mystery, fantasy, or self-help.
3. Packaging
Box Contents: In addition to the book(s), the box may include related items such as bookmarks, candles, tea, exclusive author notes, themed merchandise, and more.
Customization: Some boxes might include personalized items based on the subscriber's profile.
4. Shipping
Schedule: The boxes are shipped out at a specific time each month. Subscribers are usually notified when their box is on its way.
Tracking: Many services provide tracking information so subscribers can follow their box's journey.
5. Receiving and Enjoying
Unboxing: Subscribers receive their box, often sharing their unboxing experiences on social media.
Engagement: Many services encourage subscribers to engage with the community through book discussions, online forums, or social media groups.
6. Feedback and Renewal
Feedback: Subscribers can often provide feedback on the books and items they received, helping to refine future selections.
Renewal: Subscriptions may automatically renew unless canceled, or subscribers can choose to renew their subscription manually.
Additional Features
Exclusive Content: Some services offer exclusive access to online content, author interviews, and virtual book club meetings.
Gift Options: Many book subscription boxes offer gift options, allowing subscribers to send boxes to friends and family.
Popular Examples
Book of the Month: Subscribers choose from a selection of new books each month.
OwlCrate: Focuses on young adult fiction with themed merchandise.
Illumicrate: Specializes in science fiction and fantasy with exclusive collectibles.

Ok, so we're about halfway through spring break...
Things are going to be REAL bad for about a month starting next week. I mean "my fellow teachers are in the group chat legitimately wondering if public education is doomed and we're not even off break yet" kind of bad.
We spent the first weekend of break driving to the Texas hill country (absolutely BEAUTIFUL in spring), hiking Enchanted Rock, meeting my parents for dinner, wandering around Fredericksburg, and eating tasty food. We stayed in a lovely cabin that was extremely comfortable and nice. My only disappointment was it was too cloudy for stargazing.
Monday, we drove back and got situated for the week. Yesterday I mostly relaxed and met my friends for lunch.
Today, though... Today, I-
organized my storygraph as I finished 2 books yesterday and started 2 more today;
assessed our current subscriptions so we can eliminate some
cancelled my magazine subscriptions;
(There's about 5 others we're going to discuss; at least 1 will probably not get renewed and 2 others probably shouldn't get renewed but are harder to let go of.)
cleaned the kitchen;
ordered things that we kept saying we were going to get around to (namely another tervis, another travel mug, tea that we ran out of that can only be ordered online, and the road atlases we decided are indeed needed in today's world because we had shit service in the hill country);
reorganized the Tea Area;
ordered 3 things off ebay that will hopefully make it easier to cancel the Prime subscription (should I have spent $75 on 3 blurays? maybe not. but Prime is $140/year & funds bad stuff, so...) (I got Dr. Horrible + both season of Good Omens, btw);
went to my doctor appointment to discuss some temporary med changes for the next month (yes, it's really going to be that bad- I will be going up either a half or a full dose on my ADHD/anxiety med + she ordered me some zofran to have on hand);
ordered the pill cutter I will now need;
ordered 3 choice items from Lush specifically to help me stay sane in the next month (magic crystals salt scrub because lavender spearmint is a godsend for me, sleepy body wash, and some citrus shower oil) (should I have spent that money? maybe not. but i got the halloween special bat salt scrub thing that is lavender spearmint scented and it literally saved my sanity last semester before I got on these meds, but it's almost gone, so...)
And it's only 3pm! I still have about 2 hours of reading I can get in before Robert gets home from work.
