i see a lot of people talk about edward being disabled in fma, but it's less often talked about how alphonse is also disabled. i think it's partially because alphonse doesn't experience physical pain like edward so for a majority of the series, he's not having any of those kind of symptoms, but he is still disabled. also because alphonse's experiences are unique. like you don't see ant walking, talking suits of armour in real life (unless they're piloted by a human being physically inside them) and in world, there are about 3 others like alphonse).
alphonse is dependent on edward's survival to function. after fighting scar for the first time, alphonse is literally in pieces. he can't walk or anything until edward is in a position to fix him. similarly his body is dependent on nutrients from edward's body. like there's the point towards the end where edward gets impaled and alphonse collapses. furthermore, these periods where alphonse collapses start to become debilitating towards the end of the series and massively alter his daily living.
also, alphonse constantly talks about how upsetting it is for him to not feel any physical sensations. yeah, he's not feeling physical pain, but he's also not feeling the warmth of a fire, the sun on his face, or the fluffiness of the cats he keeps petting. he talks a lot about not being able to eat or sleep, and how there's a lot of foods he wants to try.
there's another thing that highlighted by edward at one point. alphonse's body doesn't regenerate at all. the parts scar destroys are gone forever; edward stretches out the metal that alphonse has left to repair his body. and obviously human beings don't regrow limbs, but imagine if your skin didn't ever heal over a cut. how long would your body last?
also alphonse gets told several times that his body is great throughout the series, and he literally argues against it every time, because to him it is shit. like he is missing some of his senses just for some supposedly immortal body that isn't even immortal.
even once alphonse gets his own body back, the amount of physical therapy the boy has to go through. his body has essentially been doing nothing and only receiving what nutrients it can get from edward for years. by the end of the series, he's still using a cane as a walking aid. it's unknown whether he requires that cane for the years to come, but for at least a period of time he requires a mobility aid. I don't know enough to say what effect muscle decay from inactivity and severe malnourishment during a major portion of his teenage years would have long term.
#fullmetal alchemist brotherhood#fullmetal alchemist#fmab spoilers#fmab#fma#fma brotherhood#alphonse elric#i will say im able bodied so that might influence my perception#also if any of the language or thoughts i had seem wrong or are used poorly then i do apologise#im writing this in the middle of the night so my brain is low-key soup#i just do think alphonse suffers as a result of his armoured body and alphonse edward and winry are the only ones to really talk about it

pile 1: as you may already know, your hair and your diet are VERY connected. stress and diet changes are being felt rn by your strands. your hair is feeling neglected, weak and lacking nutrients, you might be going through breakage or shedding right now. please make sure that your diet is full of protein, healthy fats and vitamins! do not neglect your diet! what your hair needs right now: a multi step approach (think scalp serums, deep conditioning masks), also try a clarifying shampoo (six of swords) such as the neutrogena anti residue shampoo or OUAI detox shampoo to reset your scalp. incorporate some protective hair styles, heat styling and rough brushing needs to be avoided right now. and again, do not neglect your diet, drink water and switch to a silk pillowcase to avoid breakage! gentle and consistent scalp care please!
pile 2: your hair is fighting for its life right now, too much going on all at once. heat damage, over processing and stress but there's hope! you could be at the start of a potential hair growth or repair journey (or you might have been on one already for quite some time). the hermit suggests your hair needs a break from heat, chemicals or aggressive styling. i feel that some of you might have bleached their hair or perm styled it or something (sorry, not an expert). your hair right now needs consistency and a major chop. holding onto dead ends isn't helping, let them go. this is your rebirth era, transition to natural hair and protective hair style, consider also switching to a low maintenance scalp friendly haircare. go heat free for a month, focus on scalp health (try rosemary oil!!) and if you have extreme breakage invest in protein treatments.
pile 3: i feel like your hair is recovering after some tough setbacks (perhaps a haircut you might have regretted? or a dye job?). your hair might be holding onto buildup aka too much oil or heavy conditioners or dry shampoo. detox your scalp with a scrub! also scalp massages are a must (if you want to, you can include some hair growth serums or rosemary oil/water). please make sure to stop following generic haircare trends that might not be suited for your hair type (check for porosity). don't be afraid to throw away expired products or products that are simply not working for you please. switch it up!
thank you for reading! follow for healthy hair <3

Hi fellow adventurers!! Welcome to chapter 2! We're going to be attempting a nice lil fruit-focused quiche/frittata/pie thing. And yes, tomatoes are fruits.
Who says you cant eat totally normal things in a dungeon with definitely no monsters in them?
You know what that means; Man-Eating Plant Tart!
(As always you can find the cooking instructions and full ingredient list under the break-)
MY NAMES CROSS NOW LETS COOK LIKE ANIMALS
SO, “what goes in to a Man-Eating Plant Tart?” YOU MIGHT ASKThe way its prepared in the show is akin to a frittata, but the crust is borrowed from quiche world.
Eggs
Whole milk
Bell peppers
Persimmons
Cherry tomatoes
Pitted green olives
Thinly sliced OR shredded sweet potatos
Salt
Pepper
In the show they use leftover hotpot stock, slime, and mashed up fruit as the batter ingredients. Fruit mush is easy to work with but I couldn't find any stand-in for slime that would cook correctly into what they made in the show, and the hotpot stock is just not thick enough to carry the base. It is too many watery ingredients at once. Needing a thickening agent, both gelatin and agar agar were tried. It was edible but the texture was… gelatinous. Regular egg and milk will serve for our purposes.
The next complication was the crust- so in the show its made with the skins of fruit, straightforward yeah? Well. You see it also has to be 1. Thick enough to bake without burning 2. Harden through cooking to be sliced and held and 3. Inedible. Lotus leaves? Plantain leaves? Really thin gourds? I couldnt find any historical basis for a savory food cooked in this method, or similar method, with an intentionally inedible crust. I could find a few dishes which used leaves as their crust, but none that hardened during cooking and even less that used fruit skin. I chose sweet potato skin for its visual match and texture. It is edible, and it is not a fruit.
I hope youll forgive me for these 2 major deviations as i wanted to keep it looking how it does in the show while also ensuring it tastes good.
AND, “what does a Man-Eating Plant Tart taste like?” YOU MIGHT ASKFluffy, airy, savory, salty.
The density of the eggs is offset by the crisp fruits
And the saltiness doesnt overpower the remnant fruit-sweetness
(If you eat the crust) the sweet potato brings this nice muted, smokey, flavor
Spongecake-esque in consistency
Would pair well with cranberry or strawberry juice
Would also pair well with a mellow hot sauce?
. You can use heavy cream instead of milk for a creamier batter . Roast the fruit longer to remove more liquid if too wet (and vice versa if too dry) . Smoked paprika, pepper flakes, cumin, garlic powder, and onion powder would taste good in the mixture
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"A mixture of mashed up and cut up Man-Eating Plant fruit, slime and scorpion soup is poured into a pan lined with the flattened peel of the fruit and cooked before garnishing with some more fruit. Described as salty by the group."
From start to finish this recipe took 3-ish hours? Shredding the potatoes took the longest, so if you get them bagged itd be cut down. A very filling recipe and a good way to sneak veggies/fruits in if you have a hard time getting enough of those essential nutrients. The best advice i can give is to add salt/seasonings at every stage of the process, to build up layers. It makes a difference flavor-wise (even if its just salt). I advise against reheating if possible. The filling will make the crust soggy over time.
If you want to be closer to the cooking of the show, you could double the fruit amounts and mash them together while halving the amount of egg and milk. I hadnt tried due to budget reasons, but it should work with some finangling. I'll pass the final verdict off to you guys with how todays recipe turned out <333
What would you rate this recipe out of 10? (with 1 being food that makes one physically sick and 10 being food that gives one a lust for life again.) Did you love it, did you hate it? What're your thoughts on what I could do better, and what would you have done instead?
🐁 ORIGINAL RESIPPY TEXT BELOW 🐁
Ingredients:
3 Eggs
13oz whole milk
2 bell peppers
2 small persimmons
140oz cherry tomatoes
12oz pitted green olives
34oz thinly sliced OR shredded sweet potatos
Salt
Pepper
Method:
Heat oven to 420f and grease a 9-inch pie pan.
Thinly slice (or shred) your sweet potatoes and squeeze out any excess moisture. Coat in olive oil, salt and pepper.
Press sweet potato mixture evenly into and up the sides of the pie pan.
Blind bake for roughly 25 minutes or until lightly golden-brown. No worries if the edges get crisp.
Remove pie pan from oven and set aside.
Core and chop up your bell peppers and persimmons. Coat with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
Line out on a baking sheet, evenly spaced, and roast for roughly 20 minutes or until softened. (you can do this at the same time on a separate rack from the pie crust if you have room)
Remove the stems from your cherry tomatoes, and drain/dry your green olives if canned.
Bring a frying pan to medium heat with olive oil. Add the green olives and sautee until their skin texture starts dimpling. Add the cherry tomatoes and continue sauteeing for about 5 minutes or until lightly browned.
Once the bell peppers, persimmons, cherry tomatoes, and green olives are all done, set aside to cool until just above room temp.
Lower the oven temperature to 350f.
In a mixing bowl combine your eggs and milk, add salt to taste. If you want other seasonings nows a good time!
Once uniform in color and texture, add your cooked fruit. Stir until evenly distributed.
Pour mixture into the potato pie crust.
Bake for roughly 40 minutes. The filling should be mostly firm, but wiggle *slightly* when you shake the pan.
Remove from oven and let rest for roughly 15 minutes before serving.

Ways NASA Studies the Ocean
We live on a water planet. The ocean covers a huge part of the Earth's surface – earning it the name Blue Marble.
The ocean is one of Earth’s largest ecosystems and helps moderate Earth’s climate. NASA scientists spend a lot of time studying the ocean and how it is changing as Earth’s climate changes.
In the last few years, NASA has launched an array of missions dedicated to studying this precious part of our planet, with more to come. For World Oceans Month, which starts in June, here are new ways NASA studies the ocean.
youtube
1. Seeing the colors of the ocean 🎨
A new NASA mission called PACE will see Earth’s oceans in more color than ever before. The color of the ocean is determined by the interaction of sunlight with substances or particles present in seawater.
Scheduled to launch in 2024, PACE will help scientists assess ocean health by measuring the distribution of phytoplankton, tiny plants and algae that sustain the marine food web. PACE will also continue measuring key atmospheric variables associated with air quality and Earth's climate.
2. Surveying surface water around the globe 💧
The SWOT satellite, launched in late 2022, is studying Earth’s freshwater – from oceans and coasts to rivers, lakes and more – to create the first global survey of Earth’s surface water.
SWOT is able to measure the elevation of water, observing how major bodies of water are changing and detecting ocean features. The data SWOT collects will help scientists assess water resources, track regional sea level changes, monitor changing coastlines, and observe small ocean currents and eddies.

3. Setting sail to understand interactions between the ocean and atmosphere 🚢
With research aircraft, a research ship, and autonomous ocean instruments like gliders, NASA’s S-MODE mission is setting sail to study Earth’s oceans up close. Their goal? To understand ocean whirlpools, eddies and currents.
These swirling ocean features drive the give-and-take of nutrients and energy between the ocean and atmosphere and, ultimately, help shape Earth’s climate.

4. Building ocean satellites the size of a shoebox 📦
NASA’s HawkEye instrument collects ocean color data and captures gorgeous images of Earth from its orbit just over 355 miles (575 kilometers) above Earth’s surface. It’s also aboard a tiny satellite measuring just 10cm x 10 cm x 30 cm – about the size of a shoebox!

5. Designing new missions to study Earth’s oceans! 🌊
NASA is currently designing a new space-based instrument called GLIMR that will help scientists observe and monitor oceans throughout the Gulf of Mexico, the southeastern U.S. coastline and the Amazon River plume that stretches to the Atlantic Ocean. GLIMR will also provide important information about oil spills, harmful algae blooms, water quality and more to local agencies.
6. Taking the ocean to new heights ⬆️
The U.S.-European Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich satellite is helping researchers measure the height of the ocean - a key component in understanding how Earth’s climate is changing.
This mission, which launched in 2020, has a serious job to do. It’s not only helping meteorologists improve their weather forecasts, but it’s helping researchers understand how climate change is changing Earth’s coastlines in real time.
Make sure to follow us on Tumblr for your regular dose of space!

cant get over the fungi on ruidus sorry. i have more to say
its implied that the reilorans are able to survive and farm the fungus, theres at least 347 different species of fungus native (?) to ruidus, and theres also slime molds*. evolutionarily (assuming the life evolved independently on ruidus which is a very bold assumption) this would imply that theres also prokaryotic life (bacteria, basically) and likely advanced eukaryotic organisms in the form of animal life, which we do see! its very possible that the reason theres so little plant life on ruidus is because something about the makeup of the planet is aggressively harmful to plants, if i had to guess its the lack of easily available sunlight due to the constant dust storms and the soil is probably unfavorable for growing. this probably means that fungus makes up the majority of the biomass for animals to consume or animals are much more adapted for absorbing nutrients from the soil/other sources.
i do think its interesting that fungus seem to survive and thrive SO well in the deep caverns because most fungus (on earth, and exandria. probably) are decomposers and need organic material to survive off of. they could be decomposing the crystal corpse of predathos though, which is the coolest idea in the world to me, or they could just do so well that they've created an independent ecosystem underground complete with its own n- and c-cycles.
the fungus on ruidus seem to take more after kingdom animalia in general, since theyre motile (for those unawares, fungus are actually MUCH much much more related to animals than they are to plants, so this isnt that out there) which is super cool. the myceits are somehow related to the fungi's sexual reproduction because we see the sterile mycelium on it's own and it doesn't seem to be producing any spores, where the myceits do have spore producing structures (specifically they have hymenophores, since they are most similiar to hymenomycete mushrooms). so i think its likely the myceits are just advanced forms of spore dispersal and will run around till they find somewhere favourable to drop spores (or passively will drop them as they move) and probably they have very short life spans </3 sorry myceits
also myceit = mycete = fungi kingdom. proof of earth-equivalent taxonomy existing in exandria? possibly why the ruidians call them myceits is because theyve seen botanists dream about mushrooms and refer to them as "mycetes" !
*gaz, the source for the # of fungus, seems to consider slime molds a kind of fungus, so its unclear whether all the species are actually true fungi, but i digress because slime molds are closely related to fungus anyway. also 347 is a really low number of species for an entire planet, but whatever.
#dont look that closely into how things could have evolved from bacteria at all without an ocean....... shhhhhhhh#im afraid that the nerd brain is chronic. i love to learn and to apply knowledge#sorry im in my botany head era right now. im done with my general botany course and all the info just needs somewhere to go#why not use it for some interesting analysis on ruidus. im sure at least one of my followers enjoys this yapping#ramblings#cr spoilers#bc its using info from the most recent ep as if anyone cares about fungus spoilers. hii I love your stuff can you make writing notes about volcanoes I wanted to write abt them for my writing project and I'm having a hard time on in thx ^^
Writing Notes: Volcanoes
Volcano - vent in the crust of Earth or another planet or satellite, from which issue eruptions of molten rock, hot rock fragments, and hot gases.
Volcanoes are Earth's geologic architects.
They've created more than 80 percent of our planet's surface, laying the foundation that has allowed life to thrive.
Their explosive force crafts mountains as well as craters.
Lava rivers spread into bleak landscapes.
But as time ticks by, the elements break down these volcanic rocks, liberating nutrients from their stony prisons and creating remarkably fertile soils that have allowed civilizations to flourish.
Some 75% of the world's active volcanoes are positioned around the ring of fire.
It is a 25,000-mile long, horseshoe-shaped zone that stretches from the southern tip of South America across the West Coast of North America, through the Bering Sea to Japan, and on to New Zealand.
This region is where the edges of the Pacific and Nazca plates butt up against an array of other tectonic plates.
Importantly, however, the volcanoes of the ring aren't geologically connected.
In other words, a volcanic eruption in Indonesia is not related to one in Alaska, and it could not stir the infamous Yellowstone supervolcano.
Active – volcanoes known to have erupted during historical times. (Total Number = 529)
Dormant – volcanoes that have not erupted during historical times, but will probably erupt again. (Total Number = 1,340)
Extinct – volcanoes that are unlikely to erupt again.
The 3 Classic Types of Volcanoes
TYPE — SIZE — LIFESPAN
Cinder Cone — Small (<1,000 ft; 330 m tall) — Short (single eruption of a few months)
Composite Volcano — Large (usually between 6,500 and 20,000 ft; 2,000-3,000 m tall) — Long (hundreds of thousands of years)
Shield Volcano — Very large (up to a maximum of 33,000 ft; 10,000 m tall) — Very long (up to a million years or longer)
Different shapes of volcanoes have different kinds of eruptions.
The most explosive eruptions come from stratovolcanoes, like the Augustine Volcano in Alaska. When they erupt, stratovolcanoes blow huge columns of gas and ash into the air that can collapse in hot, fast-moving clouds called pyroclastic flows.
A shield volcano, like Mauna Kea in Hawaii, has gentle slopes formed by oozing, runny lava. The magma is low in silica and low in gas, so it doesn’t erupt explosively.
A lava dome, like the one of Chaitén Volcano in Chile, forms when thick lava oozes from a vent, piles up, and cools into a steep mound. The lava is thick because it’s high in silica, and it oozes instead of explodes because it’s low in gas. Sometimes lava domes form after explosive eruptions.
A cinder cone volcano, like Tavurvur in Papua New Guinea, forms when erupted fragments harden and fall to the ground, accumulating around the vent in a cone shape. The lava is low in silica, so the lava is runny. High gas levels make for the explosive eruptions that send it flying. Cinder cones typically form at the beginning of eruptions, and lava flow follows.
Olympus Mons - a giant shield volcano on Mars. It is believed to be the largest volcano in the solar system. The entire island of Hawaii would fit in its caldera.
In more-detailed classification schemes based on character of eruption, volcanic activity and volcanic areas are commonly divided into 6 major types, shown schematically in the diagram. They are listed as follows in order of increasing degree of explosiveness:
Icelandic
Hawaiian
Strombolian
Vulcanian
Pelean
Plinian
There are different types of volcanic eruptive events, including:
pyroclastic explosions, with is fast-moving hot gas and volcanic matter
hot ash releases
lava flows
gas emissions
glowing avalanches, when gas and ashes release.
Volcanic eruptions can also cause secondary events, such as floods, landslides and mudslides, if there are accompanying rain, snow or melting ice.
Hot ashes can also start wildfires.
Volcanic eruptions can impact climate change through emitting volcanic gases like sulfur dioxide, which causes global cooling, and volcanic carbon dioxide, which has the potential to promote global warming.
Features and Erupted Material
Viscosity: The resistance of a material (usually a fluid) to flow. Example of comparison would be the higher resistance to flow of cake batter compared to water.
Lava Flow: Lava flow is thin at the top of the cone, while lava pooled at the base is very thick. When eruptions end, erosion processes start on the cooled lava, including glacier erosion, flowing water, rockfall, and landslides. The volcano will only grow in size if the amount/volume of lava erupted is more than the amount that is lost to erosion.
Volcanic Gases: Most gases originate in the mantle and are transported to the crust and surface by complex interactions with magma and rocks along the way. In general, gases are dissolved in the magma. At shallow depths, as pressure on the magma decreases, gases leave the magma. The gases can interact with surrounding rocks or continue to the surface. The most common volcanic gases are: Water Vapor (H2O), Carbon Dioxide (CO2), and Sulfur Dioxide (SO2). Gases can be both dissolved in the magma chamber and also emitted from volcanoes at the surface. It’s the dissolved gases cause volcanoes to erupt.
A magma chamber contains high pressure and dissolved gases.
The density contrast between the magma and the surrounding rock causes more buoyant magma to rise. As the magma rises, the dissolved gases start to come out of the liquid and form bubbles.
As the bubbles grow and increase in volume, it causes the magma to became more buoyant and ascend closer to the surface, allowing the overlying pressure to decrease and produce magmatic foam.
When the pressure in the bubbles is greater than the pressure of the overlying rock, then the chamber will burst causing a volcanic eruption.
The viscosity, temperature and composition of the magma determine whether the explosion is explosive or effusive.
More Features and Erupted Material
Silica: Influences lava viscosity and overall shape of the volcano. Silica molecules form a strong bond that permits entrapment of volcanic gases and promotes explosive volcanic eruptions. Low-silican magmas allow rapid escape of gases and low-explosivity eruptions. Other factors that control magma viscosity include the temperature, gas, water content and the amount of crystals in the magma.
Color: Color and texture of lava vary considerably depending on cooling conditions. Lava rocks at high temperatures appear red to orange in color but cool quickly to shades of red (due to oxidation) and gray.
Sound: Witnesses of slow-moving, partially cooled lava flows report sounds similar to breaking of glass and pottery, caused by the splintering of the cooled outer skin of the lava flow. In contrast, the passing of a pyroclastic flow is eerily quiet. Some people say this is because its sound energy is absorbed within the billowing ash cloud.
Smell: Observers of lava flows report a slight sulfur smell in the air and the odor of burning vegetation.
Texture: Lava at Mount Rainier is not as fluid as lava at the volcanoes on Hawai'i, where lava flows sometimes resemble hot molasses, nor is it as viscous as lava at Mount St. Helens.
Tephra: Fragmental material produced by a volcanic eruption regardless of composition, fragment size or emplacement mechanism. Also referred to as pyroclasms (airborne), and pyroclastic flows (on ground) and rocks. Tephra can stay in the stratosphere for days to weeks following an eruption. It can also reflect light and heat from the sun back into the atmosphere. Tephra mixed with precipitation can also be acidic and cause acidic rain and snowfall. Tephra is made up of ash (fragments of pulverized rock, minerals and volcanic glass), volcanic blocks (a mass of molten rock), and lapilli (little broken up pieces of molten or semi-molten lava ejected from eruption).
Other Types of Volcanic Rock
If a rhyolite lava flow cools quickly, it can quickly freeze into a black glassy substance called obsidian. When filled with bubbles of gas, and usually with explosive eruptions, the same lava will form pumice. If the same lave is allowed to cool slowly…it will form a light-colored, uniformly solid rock called rhyolite.
Pumice most commonly forms with rhyolite lava flows, though it has formed from dacite and andacite. flows as well. It is so lightweight, it will float on water.
Obsidian has been used for centuries in many countries for things such as weapons and art.
The shape and size of a volcano are controlled by several factors
The volume of volcanic products
The interval length between eruptions
The composition of volcanic products
The variety of volcanic eruption types
The geometry of the vent
The environment into which the volcanic products are erupted
Overall, 44 volcanoes were in continuing eruption status as of 23 December 2024.
An eruption marked as "continuing" does not always mean persistent daily activity, but indicates at least intermittent eruptive events without a break of 3 months or more.
There are typically 40-50 continuing eruptions, and out of those generally around 20 will be actively erupting on any particular day (though detailed statistics on daily activity is not usually kept).
Health concerns after a volcanic eruption include:
Infectious disease
Respiratory illness
Burns
Injuries from falls
Vehicle accidents related to the slippery, hazy conditions caused by ash
When warnings are heeded, the chances of adverse health effects from a volcanic eruption are very low.
Volcanic Ash. Exposure to ash can be harmful. Ash is gritty, abrasive, sometimes corrosive, and always unpleasant. Small ash particles can abrade (scratch) the front of the eye. Ash particles may contain crystalline silica, a material that causes a respiratory disease called silicosis.

niche kin appreciation 3: share 5 fun facts about your kin
hell yeah i love fun facts! here are five enderman things that are not canon in the game but are in my memories:
enderpearls are what make endermen able to teleport! in reality, they are not pearls, but a very specialized organ inside the body that uses nutrients only found in chorus fruit to gather teleportation magic. the more chorus fruit an enderman eats, the more powerful its enderpearl will be.
did you know that endermen are able to teleport between dimensions? thats why we can be found in all three of them! we have to wait until our enderpearl is strong enough though, so if an enderling doesnt eat enough chorus fruit, its enderpearl will atrophy causing long-term health issues and making it unable to teleport properly.
even though we are nomadic, its not that common for us to want to leave our dimensions of origin, instead we prefer to wander the biomes of our home. there are endermen who choose the erratic lifestyle though, and they are called Wanderers. most of the enderfolk found in the Overworld are actually Wanderers.
enderfolk from different dimensions have COMPLETELY different cultures. the End people (also called Enderians) are the most "organized" society, as the majority of endermen are born and raised in this dimension. they are structured in familial units, called hauntings, formed by the adults (usually 3-5) and a couple of enderlings and tweens. there is more sense of community there than in other dimensions, unlike in my place of origin, the Nether. Warped Forest enderfolk like myself are less structured, and raise our young communally until theyre strong enough to be on their own. once their enderpearl is fully developed, some enderlings choose to travel to the End, either to settle in or simply to visit, while others opt to stay in the Nether. a few of them will become Wanderers, and are never seen again.
the reason why you shouldnt look an enderman in the eyes is because it is painful for us. we are a slightly telepathic species (we cant full-on read others thoughts, but we can perceive their "vibe", more or less). when an enderman looks at other endermans eyes, it forms a connection between them. this is very vulnerable for both parts, so its only done between haunting members and considered incredibly taboo outside of them. when a human makes eye contact with an enderman, it forces the connection to form, which causes a lot of pain and anger due to the violated taboo.

Speculative Biology of Euclydeans (and Bill Cipher) part 3
Part 1, Part 2, Part 4
Reproduction and growth
I highly recommend reading the second part before this! This part is the continuation of second part and it talks about Euclydean reproductive system. I separated it because some people find reproductive anatomy NSFW.
As always, this analysis is based on two assumptions:
Before Bill Cipher became a demigod, he was a biological, living organism and so were the rest of his species.
Even after Bill Cipher became a demigod, he still retained some physical characteristics of his biological form.
There will be anatomic diagrams and discussions of pregnancy in this part, so content warning if you're sensitive about those topics.
And without further ado, let's get into it!
Reproductive system
One thing that we know for certain about Euclydeans is that they reproduce sexually. Bill has parents, a mother and a father and that is only possible in species that sexually reproduce. Because we know that we also know that males have testes and females have ovaries. This is because of biological definitions of male and female - a male is an organism that produces a lot of microgametes (small reproductive cells that don't have nutrients to feed the embryo) and a female is an organism that produces far less macrogametes (large reproductive cells that contain nutrients for the embryo). Hermaphrodites produce both types of gametes and some organisms produce neither - those are sexless.
Euclydeans most likely had males and females. Bill understands concept of gender, but also the one of sex. He claims that his species had 14 billion genders, but when talking about sexes, he only uses two: male and female. Now I don't know for sure whether Bill is a biological male, however, most of the insane shit he says points towards it. Whether it is him making inappropriate jokes about knocking up your mother or adopting toxic masculinity traits that humans have and also refusing to possess women all point towards him being a male.
Bill gets extremely uncomfortable when someone wants to touch or measure his sides, especially his "hypotenuse". Bill is an equilateral triangle, so he doesn't have a hypotenuse, but I tend to believe that what he calls hypotenuse is actually his base. Since touching Bill's base makes him incredibly upset and he calls people who do so "creeps", it's fair to conclude that that is where his reproductive organs are located. And it makes sense: in vast majority of animals reproductive system is located on the body side opposite of the brain.
I believe that Euclydeans give live birth. Bill is usually grossed out by humans and when he is, he is very vocal about it. There are only two human body parts that he isn't grossed out by: the brain and the uterus. I believe that's because those parts are similar to their equivalents in Euclydeans. Bill said that he was born, not hatched and he seems uncomfortable around the idea of laying eggs. He is completely comfortable with the idea of a live birth and uteri, so much so that he has actually depicted himself inside a human uterus which is an honor only brain has gotten from him.
This means that Euclydean females probably have a very similar uterus to humans and they give live birth. This also means that the fertilization happens inside the female, so males very likely have some kind of copulatory organ. Copulatory organ is basically a means for a male to deposit his sperm inside the female. In mammals it's called penis, in reptiles a hemipenis and so on. I don't know how would Euclydean copulatory organ look like, but it acts like a hemipenis - it's coiled inside their shell when it's not in use.
Despite having a uterus, Euclydeans are for sure not placental mammals and they definitely don't feed their babies milk. Thanks to Bill asking Ford why he didn't eat Stan while they were in their mom's belly, I have a theory that Euclydeans feed their fetuses via adelphophagy. Also referred to as "intra-uterine cannibalism", adelphophagy basically means that the mother produces a large amount of yolk-rich eggs and deposits them in her uterus. Some of those get fertilized and the others serve as food for her embryo. However, the goal is to nurture just one embryo while the rest will get used as food for it! This is a technique used by some sharks and it fits so well with Euclydeans too, since they, just like sharks and humans give very few births throughout their life - less than 10 and it's almost always to one baby. Adelphophagy is very hard on the mother because she has to produce a huge amount of yolk for her baby to eat, so she will have to have a "recovery period" when she won't be able to get pregnant again.
This also means that Euclydean fetuses have developed teeth and ability to kill and digest their unborn siblings. That is fucked up, but it's normal for them. Hell, human pregnancy could be called "intra-uterine parasitism" because our babies feed on mom's nutrients. And the baby that turns out to be stronger that the other embryos has already passed the natural selection test and is viable to live outside of mom.
Euclydean babies are born with teeth and they are capable of eating the same things that their parents do. They are also born with a very soft shell. Since the mother has to push the baby out of her vagina, just like we do, their babies are super soft and squishy so that they could leave the womb with as little trouble as possible. That super soft exoskeleton is why baby Bill is shown having yellow arms. The shell is as soft as skin and when baby's limbs are retracted into it they can actually use it as skin. Besides, Euclydeans are cold-blooded so babies, who are smaller and thinner than adults and have very little protection might want to keep their limbs inside the shell as a means of keeping warm.
There's one part here about males that I didn't talk about and that's the hat. The hat is a living part of a Euclydean and out of Bill's parents only one is shown having it. Since Bill has it too and he's a male, his father was the one with the hat. But what is the hat? Well, "if it doesn't make sense it's used to attract females" is a saying in biology for a reason. Euclydean girls are seemingly attracted to males who have long and muscular hats. Besides, Bill himself says outright that he has a "seduction hat" and it's just a comically large cylinder.
So Euclydeans are sexually dimorphic species: the males are characterized by having a large growth in a shape of a cylinder hat on top of their head which females lack.
2. Growth and development
Baby Euclydeans are all soft and squishy, but they will harden as they grow. The shell gets more triangular as it hardens. The babies probably have very soft skin on their limbs too and that's why their parents give them shoes to wear to protect their little feet.
Interestingly, Euclydean eyes grow with them which is a rarity among Earth animals.
Also, I am aware that Bill said that he's a preteen, but he's lying. He has adult proportions and a fully developed hat. Hat develops as the male matures, so preteens wouldn't have it. Bill is an adult with emotional maturity of a preteen and he's using that as an excuse for his behavior. He sucks.
Also they aren't born without limbs, I screwed that up, the limbs are inside the shell, that's what I wanted to say, but I'm not English.
One very interesting thing that I noticed is that Bill's juvenile form has two rows of bricks, but his adult form has three. This means that he adds segments as he grows and there's only one way for that to occur - MOLTING!
Like all animals with exoskeleton, Euclydeans molt. Molting is a process of replacing the old, small exoskeleton with a new larger one as the animal grows. Some animals, like millipedes, add extra segments during molting process until they reach adult size. This is the case with Euclydeans.
This is confirmed to me by that little bit about Fiddleford seeing Bill remove his exoskeleton to feed. Removing the exoskeleton to eat would be the worst adaptation ever, not only because removing the exoskeleton takes a lot of time, but also because the animal would be completely unprotected during a very vulnerable time such as feeding. So what I think happened was that Bill was changing his exoskeleton to look all shiny when he comes out of the portal and, since molting is a very energy demanding process, he wanted a snack afterwards. And Fiddleford barged at the worst moment.
The exoskeleton of Euclideans contains their pigments, so they need to wait for it to fully harden until they gain color and the skin becomes invisible under it again. They are soft and vulnerable in this stage. And, considering how Alex Hirsch draws Bill in human form, I headcanon that Bill is a bit chubby, which you can see here XD
But, I know what my freaky fanfic authors need to know: Could Euclydeans and humans have sex?
Well, since Euclydeans are as intelligent or even more intelligent than humans, you can discuss consent. And with that, have fun. There are definitely ways Ford could have fucked that triangle.
@unoriginal-starwalker thank you for your support with this. My degree is burning in hell together with me after being used to write this.

Oh! For those of you who like Lancer, I've made major progress in the campaign I'm writing: Kindness of strangers!
LRBT-III, otherwise known as Blanche to the locals. This sun-baked dustbowl of a planet has the high honor of being one of the few habitable terrestrial bodies that anyone has discovered in the Long Rim, and probably the only one that's actually any use to anyone. Luckily- or not so luckily, if you ask some people- it was Union that found it first. Well, about 70 years ago when they stumbled across this star system they got it in their heads that the Long Rim's days were numbered. There’s untold millions living out there scattered along the emptiest shipping lane in the known galaxy who'd need a way out once no one needed to pass them by, and by Christ the Buddha Union was gonna be there for them waiting with open arms.
All of that is background, though. You? You’re a bunch of mercenaries who got their hands on a couple of GMSes, decided to make your manna selling violence for pay. Worlds like Blanche don't take to colonies very well, so even two generations in there's still plenty of frontier out there being settled and railroad tracks being laid. The people out there struggle day by day to survive, and people like you are there to protect them from those who got sick of the hard life. Not everyone out there has the guts to stand up for the little guy- that's why you're called Lancers.
A setting and a campaign all in one, Kindness Of Strangers and its (eventual) follow-up Dancing With the Devil are a series of Wild West-themed 2-mission adventures intended to take players from 0-12 as they find themselves embroiled in the midst of a corporate conspiracy to overthrow the Union-backed government of the isolated colony of Blanche and a ploy to seize control over a nearly completed Blinkstation. All the while, a strange religious movement worshipping an eons-dead alien civilization grows ever more influential in the background...
This campaign tackles themes of colonialism, nationalism, corruption, and conflict between indigenous peoples, settlers, and immigrants, all in a world where well-meaning intentions have gone sour and the ghosts of the past have come back to haunt it.
Kindness of Strangers, Missions 1-3
Field Guide to LRBT-PN
Exotic Gear Documentation
Variant Frame Documentation
Kindness of Strangers Worldbuilding Short Stories
Kindness of Strangers LCP, Maps, and Assets
This latest update includes the first(ish) draft of Mission 3: The Field of Blue Children, allowing play of the first half of Act 2 and extending the LL range from 0-3. Mission 3 is heavily intrigue and RP focused, featuring a wide suite of characters, relationships, and locations in the Tourist town of Baugh- a thriving immigrant community situated on a soda lake.
The PCs have been hired to investigate a bomb threat at the newly completed Baugh Pumpworks, and water filtration and chemical processing facility that stands to end the water shortage and threatens corporate control over the colony's water supply- but is everything really as it seems? In the process, the PCs will go toe to toe with teenage gearheads, Pinkerton-expies, and a group of Sparri Espadas who got roped into this whole mess, and uncover the mystery behind the threat!
Also, there's a subaltern that talks like a pirate and catholicism.
Anyway this mission also includes a custom NPC Template (kind of, I don't know how to design the LCP for that but i did include instructions on how it works), several new reserves, and several custom sitreps!
So, check it out- I'm always looking for feedback.
#lancer#lancer rpg#lancer ttrpg#lancerrpg#lancer third party content#writers block really kicked my ass for the last half a year ngl#and also i apologize for lack of/inconsistent formatting while i have been editing on my own time its mostly cleaning stuff up#as well as rebalancing encounters as ive tested them#and making sure the existing plot and writing is forwards compatible as i develop and expand things

so what if prowl and shockwave blitzwing react to bumlebee is carrying sparking?
Oh damn uh, well.
I will take this a a separate ships reaction cuz I have no idea how to write all 3.
Ooh boy, it's gonna be a long one.
BlitzBee- I have already written something similar in this post so you might wanna give that a read. Another take would be that Bee got sparked on accident after Blitz joins Team Prime. He went a little too rough on his hummel during their nightly activities and oops, energy leak n all, they got a newspark.
Of course Bee doesn't even know until he's at 3rd week carrying. Cue the shock, panic and the confused crying on Bee's behalf. Robotic hormones be doin shit to a mech. Bee's frame is defective by forging so he's not supposed to be carrying, they didn't wanna terminate it so they thought about moving the newspark for Blitzwing to carry (he's not ideal either but more safe than Bee carrying).
Unfortunately, the newspark seemed to attach itself to Bee's spark chamber making it dangerous to perform the surgery. Bee was put on leave with strict rules of what he can and cannot do. Blitzwing was worried of course, his hummel didn't seem to take it seriously and threw a fit whenever he was told no. He tried to be around to make sure Bee doesn't do anything stupid, but alas...
He was only supposed to fly out to get a package and returned to Bee beign hospitalized in medbay; apparently Sari has climbed the tree outside the base while Bee was getting his dose of sunlight and fell- Bee managed to run up and catch her but moments later he collapsed clutching his chassis in pain.
When Blitz was asked to come into medbay after Bee woke up they didn't receive good news... There was no sign of the newspark on the scanner. Bee sobbed his spark out that day, his pitiful wailing was heard all thorough the base, Blitzwing could only hold him while he desperately tried to hold himself together.
It was difficult for all of them but the one who got hit the most was Bee. All he did was lay in his berth and not speak. He refused to eat unless Blitzwing or Ratchet forced him to. The others were extremely worried about him but understood that he needed time. Blitzwing himself was having a hard time coping and basically without a sparkmate to help him he started being aggressive.
One evening he came back home from a call with other teammates and went straight to check on Bee. He thought the scout was sleeping at first but then he noticed his faded colors. He wouldn't wake up no matter how much he called or shook him, Blitzwing just picked him up and ran to medbay.
It was then that Ratchet discovered that their newspark hasn't actually faded, it shrank to the point of not being detected by the old scanner and was now almost twice as big as it was before. It was draining Bee's frame of nutrients and energy, the scout got the appropriate shots and IVs, after he woke up he didn't quite understand what they were saying but once Blitzwing repeated the diagnosis he cried.
After the rollercoaster of emotions Bee has become basically immobile and had to be carried everywhere. He could walk on his own but after what happened he refused to even go close to whatever could negatively impact him. Walking, emotional movies, even majority of his games were left untouched for the rest 3 months of carrying. He blamed himself for nearly killing their child and he wasn't gonna repeat that mistake.
Then one night he woke up with chassis pains again, the emergence date was close so everyone was on edge. Blitzwing rushed him to medbay and by the dawn there was a bitlet peacefully napping in the makeshift baby cot. That night a storm was happening, Bee promptly named the bitty Thunderbolt after he heard one strike after emergence. It was a seeker, colored yellow and beige and purple optics, definitely taking after his sire in size.
But that's not where it ends, about 3 months later, Blitzwing got sparked and they had to get more protoforms. Bee was paranoid about Blitzwing even lifting a wing, especially since his mood swings gotten worse during carrying but he was following the doctor's orders to the word. They got a pair of twins, tiny grounders like Bee colored purple and black with faces and optics matching Blitzwing's other faces. Frost for blue wiht red optics and Flame for red with blue optics. They both got little yellow horns to contrast their colors. The seeker will grow little above Blitzwing's half of height with an aqua plane as alt, while the twins will be Bee-sized with topless jeeps as alts.
ProwlBee- It's a similar story as with BlitzBee; they get rough, Bee's sparked on accident, they find out x amount of time later BUT- they manage to get Prowl to carry the newspark. Prowl caught that something was up pretty early on so there was time. They didn't plan on it yet but there were definitely thoughts about it from time to time.
Bee however has never been more worrisome. He made sure Prowl had everything he needed and more and may or may not have been spoiling him a bit much. It only got worse when Prowl felt weaker and they had to make a check and discovered the newspark has split into 3. It was more than they expected but they would manage.
While Prowl was generally calm about everything Bee wasn't doing as good, on top of what i said earlier he also starter pulling allnighters the closer the due date was. He couldn't let himself be sleepin in case something horrible will happen. Which is why after delivering the bitties one afternoon he immediately crashed after he got a fair look at them and slept for nearly 2 days. They were near-identical triplets and definitely taking more after Prowl frame-wise with horns of course. One was yellow and gold, named Chi. The other one was silver and black, named Typhoon. and The third one (which actually emerged first) was black and yellow, they named it Shuriken. All had blue optics. All would grow to be as tall as Bee with quads as alt modes.
Now ShockBee. Longarm and Bee's relationship was more of a long distance one. Long visited sometimes but it wasn't enough for Bee. He knew Longarm had a job and couldn't just ditch it to spend time with him but he still tried to come up with excuses so that Longarm will have to stay with him for longer... never in a million years would he think of getting sparked though. Bee has tried to be more lustful as a way to keep Long around more but this was a complete unplanned event that he didn't predict.
He didn't even know how to break the news to Longarm, but he supposed it couldn't be bad since Longarm also loved him, right..? He couldn't have been more wrong.
When Longarm came to visit and Bee took him to speak in private and told him all happy, the first thing he heard was to terminate the newspark. Longarm wasn't asking for his opinion, Bee was told to do it and that's it. He argued with Long but all he got was that he doesn't want the sparkling and can't take care of it.
Bee has never seen Longarm so cold to him before. He left saying that he had something important to take care of and Bee would terminate it. Bee was torn and panicking later that evening; he didn't wanna upset his sparkmate but at the same time he didn't want to lose the sparkling that he's grown attached to in the short time he had it.
Bulkhead was there to comfort him, he suggested that he should talk with Longarm one more time before making the decision. So Bee did, he called Longarm to come visit once more and tried to talk with him about it once more. But it was useless. Longarm was set of getting rid of the newspark, even threatening to split up with Bee if he doesn't. In that moment Bee failed to recognise the one he loved and just stared at him before calmly stating he'll keep the sparkling and whether Longarm wants to be in its life it or not is his own choice. Longarm left shortly after that, saying nothing but that he knows his answer.
Bee cried his spark out at night, unable to comprehend why a mech that loved him would be so cruel. Bee was put on leave and did everything he could to make sure the newspark grows safe and strong. It all made sense once Longarm was discovered a spy and was send to stockades. Everyone was shocked and questioning anyone for anything they might know from when they had contact with Longarm. Bee's relationship was kept secret to other Elite Guard, the information about his sparkling's sire was shoved under the rug as well by Team Prime. They knew Bee was innocent and manipulated by Shockwave, so if the information he was sparked by him leaked Bee would never know peace again.
The mere shock of the discovery hit Bee like a freight train, so much to the point he went into early emergence from the stress. The newspark was weak so it had to be supported while in the protoform. The bitty was rusty yellow and black with teal details and antlers when it onlined properly, Bee named it Radio. It turned out to be medium class grounder, while skinny and usually quite taller than Bee. It chose an old type of camaro as alt mode.
PHEW there we go, that's all of them. Hope ya like it cuz I'm all outta writing juice.

Round 2 - Arthropoda - Branchiopoda

(Sources - 1, 2, 3, 4)
Branchiopoda is a class of small, mainly freshwater crustaceans that feed on plankton and detritus. They are comprised of 9 orders: Anostraca (“Fairy Shrimp”), Anomopoda (“Water Fleas”), Ctenopoda (also “Water Fleas”), Cyclestherida (“Clam Shrimp”), Laevicaudata (also “Clam Shrimp”), Spinicaudata (also “Clam Shrimp”), Haplopoda (“Predatory Water Fleas”), Onychopoda (“Water Fleas” again), and Notostraca (“Tadpole/Shield Shrimp”).
Branchiopods are found mainly in freshwater, including temporary pools and hypersaline lakes, and some in brackish water. Those that live in temporary pools are known for having eggs that can dry out for long periods of time and hatch once they are submerged in water, as an adaptation to drought. Only two families, one in Onychopoda and one in Ctenopoda, contain marine species. Most eat detritus or plankton, catching them in the setae on their appendages. Notostracans are opportunistic omnivores that will feed on algae, bacteria, other branchiopods like Anostracans, and even small fish.
Branchiopods are characterized by the presence of gills on many of the animals’ appendages, including the mouthparts. Most have compound eyes and a carapace. In the Clam Shrimp, the carapace prevents the use of the legs for swimming, so the antennae are used for locomotion instead, as they are in nauplius larvae.
The oldest known branchiopod was Rehbachiella kinnekullensis of the Upper Cambrian. Notostracans in particular have a good fossil record, with the oldest known species being Strudops goldenbergi from the Late Devonian. Notostracans are often described as “Living Fossils” due to their lack of major morphological change over 250 million years.
Propaganda under the cut:
Both Triops (a genus of Notostracan) and Artemia (a genus of Anostracan) make popular low maintenance aquarium pets, respectively called “Dinosaur Shrimp” and “Sea-monkeys” in the pet trade.
Triops longicaudatus helps control the West Nile virus, as they prey on Culex mosquito larvae.
In Japan, Triops cancriformis are used as biological pest control, kept in rice paddies to eat weeds.
Most branchiopods feed on small plankton and detritus, but some are large(r) predators, and Notostracans aren’t the only ones! The Giant Fairy Shrimp (Branchinecta gigas) can get up to 86 mm (3.4 in) long, lives in hypersaline lakes and rivers, and eats copepods and other branchiopods: mainly other fairy shrimp.
The genus Artemia, also known as Brine Shrimp, are commonly bred to feed fish and crustacean larvae, both in fish farms and in aquarium tanks, due to their ease of rearing, richness in nutrients, and tendency to be the preferred snack of small fish. Daphnia, a genus of Anomopod, are also often bred as fish food, as well as for amphibian larvae.
Artemia urmiana was once abundant in Lake Urmia of Iran, but drought has caused their population to drastically decline, leading to fears that they were nearly extinct. However, a second population has been discovered in Koyashskoye Salt Lake of Ukraine, giving hope for their recovery.
Scientists have taken the eggs of Artemia salina to outer space to test the impact of radiation on life. The brine shrimp eggs traveled on U.S. Biosatellite 2, Apollo 16, and Apollo 17 missions, and on the Russian Bion-3 (Cosmos 782), Bion-5 (Cosmos 1129), Foton 10, and Foton 11 flights. On Apollo 16 and Apollo 17, the cysts traveled to the Moon and back. Unfortunately, the results showed A. salina eggs are highly sensitive to cosmic radiation… 90% of the embryos died at different developmental stages.
Clam shrimp convergently evolved a shell similar to a bivalve. Both valves of the shell are held together by a strong closing muscle. The animals react to danger by contracting the muscle so that the valves close tightly and the crustacean floats motionlessly to the bottom of the water.
Daphnia are used in scientific studies as a model organism. Because they are nearly transparent, their internal organs are easy to study in live specimens. They are often used to test the effects of toxins and climate change, assisting with the assessment of ecological impacts caused by human disturbance.
One time, while looking at pond water under microscope, I saw a Chydorus sphaericus and squealed out loud cause it was so cute, and my professor made fun of me. But look at this. The Cheat lookin ass:
#round 2#animal polls#arthropoda#i love Triops and I always wanted some and even got as far as getting some eggs for my birthday as a kid and then just uh#never put them in water#i wonder if they would still hatch it’s been like 20 years…#Branchiopoda

bcs there's another huldra/skogsrå type creature in swedish folklore which is basically just the same thang but. Water. i decided to make a species which resembles the huldra in pareidolia due to convergent evolution, but is a type of lichen instead!
read more for some extra info about the growth stages etc.
like mentioned on the page, the sjörå goes through 3 main stages. ill describe them here below:
incubation this stage lasts around 10 years, and the sjörå infects a host through either drinking water or through fish as a vector, as their spores can lay dormant in them for a few weeks. during this time, the lichen begins its infection by attaching itself to the internal organs and slowly using its specialized rhizines to intertwine with the tissue, absorbing nutrients to allow for further growth. the internal lichen structures are highly resilient however it is not impossible for the body to fight off the infection during its earliest stages. there are no major symptoms, other than light exhaustion, until the very end of this stage. during the end of the stage, when the lichen has managed to reach the nervous system, it will compel the host to find its way to the nearest body of water, and once it has done so it will expire there. the lichen then spends the next few days rapidly consuming what remains of the nervous system to replace it with its own analogous "organs" which have been slowly forming during the incubation, and the body will "reanimate".
roaming the "sjörå" stage. this is not actually when they first gain consciousness, but they first do so around the middle of the incubation stage, however this is when they are first "independent" from their host's. at the end of this stage, they are compelled to find a fitting tree near the body of water their territory encompasses, and they lie down near it. then, nearly all of the energy in their body is used to cause it to expel its lichens onto the tree, which attaches to it, covering the entire structure with itself. this destroys the remnants of the hosts body.
final this is the only stage in which the sjörå is infectious to humans and it will spread its spores into the waters below/by the tree with regular 10 year intervals. the lichen is still conscious during this stage, and is actually able to communicate telepathically with other creatures near its area of influence.

"Obviously making childhood development screening less sensitive to possible lags in childhood development using a 'wait and see' model is *good* for children because it's *inclusive* of more children's development and the decision to change it in the pandemic has nothing to do with the CDC wanting to make it harder to prove covid damages fetuses/infants even though they had more than a decade to mull the idea over. You're just a conspiracy theorist for connecting different dots (that I won't even look at) and typing a quippy sentence on tumblr dot com I didn't like."
Y'all realize the fatal flaw of 'wait and see' childhood development strategies is many babies have to cross thresholds before they're screened that they can't back through again, right? The threshold is low because the kids with developmental issues are in that other half. It's where screening does the work it needs to. We were worried about 50% because yeah, half of that half will be okay development wise, but we need to see the *other* half early to assure they get the treatment/therapy/mobility aids/etc. they need before they grow too much for them to be effective. It makes the screening more sensitive for those kids who need it, assuring they get what they need when they need it instead of too little too late. 'Wait and see' centers "normal" kids at the cost of early screening for the kids who often slip under the radar, and you think the sudden decision to make the change just a year after multiple papers showed general increased risks to pregnant people from infection, virus damaging placenta and air/nutrient starving fetuses, increasing pre-eclampsia risks and causing more premature induced births or c-sections (which leads to more frequent developmental issues), and showing infants are incredibly susceptible to covid infections (they make up about 1/3 of all covid hospitalizations, and such major illness increases the risk of developmental issues) has NOTHING to do with covid? 'Kay. Sure thing. Your calm-mongering is obviously logical and enlightened and not just protecting a fear/anger response at me for the CDC's continued bad public health choices.

Hello! I've never sent an ask to anyone before, so I don't know if I'm doing this correctly! But I seriously love your aus, so I just had to try <3
For your monster!au, do you think that there is a difference in the kinds of food they eat between monsters and humans? The kinds of food, seasoning, preparation, how it's cooked, even the degree to which something is cooked. Especially with how you mention in another post about how some species can't eat certain foods.
Like, does Yuu (female pronouns please! Or gender neutral if you prefer) come to their world and have to figure out how to cook with ingredients she's never seen before, or does Yuu just start to cook things in ways the monster bois have never seen or thought of before? Would the boys enjoy it? Would it be safe for them?
Or do you think there wouldn't be much of a difference?
Also, out of curiosity, which species would you say has the most diverse diet?
I seriously love your page! Keep up the amazing work! Stay safe and stay healthy!💙💚😃
Thank you for sending in an ask! You did it correctly, don’t worry c: And thank you so much! I’m glad you love the AUs so much to send something in! ;;v;;
To a degree, the food being cooked in the Monster!AU would be different depending on the species. I know I’ve pretty much beaten the grape incident into grape juice already, but while some may be okay with eating it, other students can’t due to it being toxic (I looked it up, and cranberry wine is a thing. That means Crewel can still enjoy a glass of wine, and it’s possible that the monsters/ghost chefs would use it in cooking instead of grape-based wines!). The same could be said for certain herbs and spices that we take for granted being something that can make them sick or can be just as toxic as grapes, like onions or garlic. Chocolate can still be a thing for some species, but carob is the main alternative that’s available—which means Yuu will still have access to it at least!
There’s also an extra sensitivity to citrus based scents. Using citrus juice to cook something like ceviche for example would be difficult, as not many can even get past the smell even if the taste itself is amazing. Funny enough, there’s actually this one manga I came across called “His Majesty the Demon King’s Housekeeper” that actually touches up on this fact as citric acid is one of the few ways to clean certain stains off surfaces, but most of the cleaning staff in the mansion couldn’t stand the smell of the orange peels until it was turned into a powder form by the demon king. It’s such a cute manga, and has lots of helpful tips too, so it’s a win-win!
If you can’t tell by now, Slice-of-Life manga and stories are my jam. I love when they touch up on things that we don’t normally think about and put a spin on things! >v<
Anyway, as you can imagine, if (and that’s a major IF) we were strictly to focus on the ingredients we know in our world, recipes would have to be tailored to be suitable to each species to avoid causing issues while ensuring that each student has the right nutrients needed to sustain their bodies. This would have resulted in having to find alternatives that are safe for students to enjoy while still being able to ensure safety to avoid severe allergic or otherwise dangerous reactions to having something they shouldn’t.
That would be one helluva menu to try to cater to when you can’t use certain seasonings to flavor things. Good thing Crowley has those ghost chefs to work with the menu, because I certainly couldn’t fathom the mental gymnastics of creating that kind of menu! @.@
But to put it in perspective, it’s like trying to give chocolate to a cat or dog when we have alternatives such as carob as I mentioned earlier. Or how people who are lactose intolerant have almond or oat milk or even goat milk as an alternative, or how there are gluten-free alternatives for those who can’t have it due to celiac disease. Just to name a few examples anyway, since I know there are people out there who have restrictive diets due to health reasons.
Thankfully, these guys aren’t entirely missing out on flavor since in Twisted Wonderland—much like how they have unique flowers and plants such as mandrakes right around the corner—I’m sure there’s no limit to the types of ingredients that can be used to cook with! In fact, I’m reminded of this manga that I’ve stumbled across that I gotta start from the beginning known as “Delicious in Dungeon”. Basically, it’s where the characters are traveling in a dungeon and they not only find monsters and creatures to hunt and eat (not like there’s a grocery store or market inside a dungeon), but also demonstrate how to prepare and cook using the ingredients found in the dungeon as well as the creatures themselves. It just looks so delicious whenever they show the results and what you can do with the extra stuff you can’t eat!
But I digress. ^v^;
This means that Yuu will have lots of new ingredients to try and explore in various dishes, and this also means new opportunities to learn new recipes! Imagine what you’d be able to learn during the Master Chef event too!
So…what happens when you have a female human who has excellent taste buds and a love of cooking and also loves to cook for others? You’ve got a whirlwind of ingredients flying around and waves of delicious smells wafting through the air leading many drooling students investigating the source (and trying to sneak a bite).
Iron-stomach gourmet Grim is the one who gets to enjoy Yuu’s experimental cooking at first. After all, why shouldn’t he be able to enjoy the spoils of his hench-human cooking for him? He’ll try guiding her with his knowledge of flavors and what tastes good, and she learns which seasonings to use for each dish whenever she talks to Trey or Jamil or even Azul. His bragging of being the first to try true human cuisine wound up drawing in the first years, many curious to see her in action while others hoped to try and sneak in a free meal.
Imagine if she cooked two-three meals a day: mini waffles and giant pancakes that are several inches thick? She’s adding various fruits and berries and pairing it with the perfect syrup! Homemade chicken or beef soup? Simmering with noodles boiled to perfection! Roasted pork and beef stew? Veggie stir-fry? Baked fish? Burgers? Pizza??? Nothing is off the table when Yuu is in the kitchen! And don’t get started on the different desserts she could whip up with Trey!
Soon enough, word would have spread around the school about the human’s delicious cooking and it won’t be long before Yuu has visitors around every meal time.
/////
Yuu:*whisking eggs as the rice cooks* “Breakfast’s almost ready, Grim!”
Grim: “Hooray! Omurice cooked human-style~!”
Knock-knock-knock!
Yuu: “Come in!” *pouring the egg into two skillets before looking up* “Oh, hey guys!”
Ace: “Hey, Yuu! Whatcha making?”
Yuu: “I’m making omurice. I asked the chefs in the cafeteria how to make it and…wait…” *narrows eyes* “Did you guys come here just to get breakfast?”
Deuce: *sheepish* “Sorry, Yuu…we just really like the way you cook.”
Yuu: *sighs and smiles* “It’s okay. Next time, just let me know ahead of time so I can prepare more, okay?”
Grim: “Don’t even think of taking my portion!”
Ace: “Aww, is that any way to treat guests, Yuu?”
Yuu: “Grim, be nice.”
Grim: “What?! That’s not fair!”
Deuce: “I can wait my turn. Is there anything I can do to help?”
Yuu: “Could you chop up some more veggies and measure out the rice? Ace and Grim can have the first two, then we’ll have the next batch.”
Grim: “Stop encouraging them!”
Ace: “Oi! As if you don’t eat the food at the Unbirthday Parties!”
Grim: “Oh yeah?! Well I-mfh!?”
Ace: “Mfhg!?”
Yuu: *dusts hands after shoving two meat buns into their mouths* “There will be no fighting in my kitchen, you hear me?”
Ace and Grim: “Yeth m’m…”
/The Next Day/
Yuu: *standing in the doorway with a bowl of pancake batter* “…are you here to socialize or do you want to try some of my cooking?”
Silver: “Fa-I mean, Lilia…decided to cook breakfast today. He wanted to try and cook some old human recipes, but…”
Sebek: *looking mildly nauseous* “I did what I could to protect Lord Malleus, but…human food should not look like that.”
Yuu: “Ah, okay. Come on in. I’ll get another batch ready, so help yourself to the ones on the table! There’s fresh fruit and whipped cream there too.”
/////
I have a feeling that Yuu would be getting a lot of visitors from Diasomnia on days that Lilia does the cooking, and I’m sure she’ll be more than happy to feed them too! 😌
As for the “food bribes”…well, it’s kinda hard to argue with the results. Especially when they can be very valid trades. Yuu wants a specific utensil to make that special treat or meal? You’ll get first dibs on the finished dish!
Oh no, Yuu needs help with this potionology assignment and made too many cupcakes to eat by herself! If only someone could come and help with both…
As you said, there are many possibilities of how Chef!Yuu could take advantage of their knowledge and skill around the kitchen! And before I forget, if I had to choose which species would have the most diverse diet…I would have to say it’s a tossup between the basilisks and the faun and satyr species. Basilisk can essentially eat nearly anything without much issue as their stomach acid is strong enough to even digest rocks and crystals, whereas faun and satyr can eat most any plant and fruit or vegetable imaginable and can tolerate some forms of meat without issue. Though if you really want to enhance the dietary variety possibilities, Epel and Trey would have this in the bag as these two are hybrids of two different species, making them truly omnivorous like humans!

Do you think Riddle is so short because of what his mom made him eat ?
Like only making him get the perfect amount of calories like in his overblot backstory
Maybe it is because his mom is also short? Anyways she doesn't seem tall, also where is his dad.
***PLEASE NOTE: I am NOT speaking as a dietician or a doctor; the information and interpretations presented here are based my own scientific knowledge and research, and apply ONLY to the analysis of a fictional character. This post is NOT meant to be taken as any sort of medical or dietary advice.*** Personally, I'm not of the belief that Riddle is short due to his controlled dietary intake. In very simple terms, calories can be thought of as the fuel you burn to get through activities. While a caloric deficit can contribute to stunting of growth, I don't think this applies to Riddle since he lives a relatively sedentary lifestyle (sitting and studying) and is provided an adequate amount of calories per meal. I want to take a quick moment to dispel the commonly held belief that Mrs. Rosehearts underfeeds Riddle. This seems to sprout from a misinterpretation of a line in 1-25 when she is serving Riddle a birthday meal. Here, she states the exact amount that Riddle must have in order to not overshoot 600 kilocalories. This is led some fans to think that Mrs. Rosehearts restricts Riddle to 600 kilocalories a day, which is just not true. From the dialogue, it is clear that Riddle is granted 600 kilocalories per meal. Assuming 3 meals a day, that means 1800 kilocalories per day, which is very close to the recommended 1745 kilocalories for the average 8-year old boy (not accounting for fluctuations from individual child to individual child). This is a perfectly normal intake, but is appears strange at first glance because very few parents actively calorie count what their child eats to this extent.
Back to the original topic, nutrient intake also contributes to height. (Think of nutrients as the building blocks to a building called your body, and the calories as workers or the 'energy' that assembles the building/your body.) However, that doesn't mean that I think Riddle didn't get enough nutrients; it is possible to have low calorie meals which are nutritious. (For example, athletes may have to follow specialized diets in order to attune their bodies to whatever sport or activity they do. Similarly, Vil crafts a diet for the VDC/SDC squad in book 5 which cuts out junk food, is overall lower in calories, and still provides the group with the energy they need for practice.) Mrs. Rosehearts has dialogue where she describes the nutritional content of the meals she has prepared, which seem to be tailored for brain function. I'm going to assume that those meals also adequately provided for Riddle's other nutritional needs. I don't have reason to believe Mrs. Rosehearts, a doctor and mother who is detail-oriented and hellbent on her child's success, would knowingly and intentionally sabotage his health.
It’s canon that maintaining physical wellbeing makes for a good mage (which is why NRC makes its students take P.E.). Additionally, eating well is said to be one way a mage can make a recovery from blot accumulation. If Riddle were eating poorly and/or was of poor health, that would only mean struggles with concentration and his magic suffering the consequences—and that’s very much counterintuitive to the success that Mrs. Rosehearts envisions for her son.
You don’t need an abundance of calories or nutrients for growth and development. The excess will get stored as adipose tissue/fat or (depending on the nutrient) exit the body as waste. It’s important for a child to be fed well in order to grow properly, but generally if they aren’t malnourished (ie getting less than what they need) then they wouldn’t be stunted.
By in large, genetics is the major deciding factor in height. I believe current studies suggest as much as 60-80% of one's height is predetermined by DNA sequences (although those DNA sequences can be altered by the environment and outside other factors). It could very well be that Riddle is just short because his ancestors had the "short" gene. Looking back at manga images of Riddle's mom from the manga, she doesn't seem that short to me. Even when Mrs. Clover is bowing her head to her, both moms appear to be about the same height (if Mrs. Clover were standing). Maybe Mrs. Clover is a little taller (it's hard to say just staring at the image), but not by a lot. If I had to guess, they seem to be about average height for women. That doesn't mean anything in terms of genetics though, you could be any height and still carry the "short" gene to pass onto your children (the shortness trait just isn't always expressed outwardly.)
If I had to guess, I’d say Riddle is just “naturally” short or drew a bad lot in terms of genetics (since his height seems to be a sore spot for him). He’s about that age where most men will stop growing too (although some do grow well into their late teens and even early twenties).
Regarding Mr. Rosehearts, we haven't seen him yet but he's definitely mentioned a few times! He is said to be a medical mage like his wife and is implied to not have a happy marriage with her (according to Riddle). That's about all we know of him now. Some parental figures just get less focus than the other, and that’s the case for Mr. Rosehearts as well as many others (Mrs. Trappola, Mr. Spade, Mrs. Asim, etc.).
It’s possible that the short gene came from Mr. Rosehearts, but we don’t know for sure since we’ve never gotten so much as a silhouette for him. Again though, he could be tall or average but have an unexpressed short gene. I believe many fans headcanon him as short though, as the King of Hearts in the source material is smaller and meeker than his wife.
