When Ignatius’ beloved wife was on her deathbed, this bloodthirsty Roman refused to leave her for long. His centuries of battles and death prevented him from trusting healers and servants with her fragile life; instead, he tried to do it all. For weeks, he tended to her every need, consulted scrolls of medical information and made elixirs, tried various herbs, and even prayed for her to be healed. But none of it worked and, in her sleep with Ignatius by her side, she passed away. That morning was the only time this man outwardly mourned. Wailing and tears that bled into a blind rage at his failure. An unlucky band of thieves met their God that day, due to his anguished rampage through the nearby woods.  

When Luciano discovered that he was too late to claim the 1p spot from Feliciano, Ignatius didn’t offer much comfort. Instead telling the boy, “You were born of my son, who was of me. It was foolish to think that you could avoid following our steps. You will be a Second Representative, a man made almost immortal with responsibilities that will stain your hands scarlet.” To the young Italy, this offered no comfort. Instead, it cemented his hatred toward 1ps and started him on the path of finding a way to eliminate the need for those soft pencil pushers.

A more lighthearted headcanon that I do have is that despite his grandsons hating him, Ignatius is proud of them as individuals. They have taken his harsh lessons to heart (though the boys deny that) as they have survived and been able to at times beat back or conquer others. Though, in terms of their ‘nation’ accomplishments, the man is not impressed and would have lectured them on it.

Saw a few other creators talking about language headcanons, I feel like a lot of nation's are polyglots. So let's go over the languages Augustus knows.

1. Latin - obviously.

2. Greek - again somewhat obvious due to southern italy being largely greek colonies.

3. Gaulish - He actually learned this one first due to him having a little crush on Gaul when they were younger. And he hadn't really interacted with southern Italy or Greece yet.

4. Coptic - It's the mighty Egypt! One must respect such a language and liked to make Nefertiti feel more at home.

5. Hittite - an ancient language, extinct by the time of Alexander the Great. But again this is more of a comfort thing for Anatolia's sake. He likes ancient history and trying to make ppl feel at home.

Augustus isnt sure about a lot of the things JL wants to do but tries his best. Like the haunted house, the rides that suddenly drop, roller coasters, but JL makes sure to take care of him too and do some slower cutsy rides and feed the man. Augustus ends up throwing up some sugary snacks. Jin-long looses his mind when he sees the red panda from the new movie turning red a parade- modern JL doesnt smile a whole lot so while Augustus is glad to see him happy he has to stop this man from getting run over by a float.

Bonus pride month addition: JL forces Augustus to take binder breaks.

alfred is on his adhd brain and is zooming around the park dragging kiku and ivan around. (he knows all the secret codes for skipping lines) matthew is in his element and is quietly walking around with prussia meanwhile ludwig is with feliciano and feliciano is dragging him on the scariest rides ever and ludwig’s manly scream echoes through the parks. greece is asleep on a park bench covered in cats. arthur and francis are challenging each other to do the scariest rides and then both cling to each other at the end and wimp out, meanwhile alfred is doing the scariest, kiku and ivan are both kinda scared of how in his element he is and then they go on one ride with him and then refuse to go on any rides with him ever.

What They'd Do for a First Date (Axis, Allies, & Nordics)

Something very quick because I just really wanted to get this idea out there. Also, I'm spending more and more time on my 2p!Prussia x Reader fic, but I wanted to make sure the rest of y'all are being fed.

So here are my headcanons on where I think a large chunk of the Hetalia boys would do for a first date!

Italy: While Feliciano's down for pretty much anything, he'd want to make sure the first date is something special. As such, he'd plan a nice, romantic dinner for the two of you where he cooks the food.

Germany: Ludwig would want to have the date at his house where you'd bake something together. He'd rather make either cake or bread. But he'd be open to hearing your ideas on what the two of you can bake.

Japan: I can see Kiku taking you to a painting class. Nothing super fancy or advanced, but something small, simple, and fun. Something where the two of you can delve into your creative side.

Prussia: Gilbert would 100% take you to the movies. He'd be down for seeing whatever you wanted to see, though he's more partial to action/adventure films. However, he wouldn't be opposed to horror, as he likes the idea of you getting scared and holding onto him.

Romano: Lovino will take you on a long walk around Rome sightseeing. He'd be pointing out every last bit of architecture you see and would recite a full history of everything. He's also the kind of guy to wanna take you on a boat ride.

America: Two words; amusement park. Alfred will absolutely take you to an amusement park or a state fair where you'd eat all kinds of fried foods, go on all of the rides, and, if it's a state fair, take you to the petting zoo. He'd also stress over planning the perfect kiss at the top of the Ferris wheel where the two of you'd watch the fireworks.

England: A first date with Arthur would be at a bookstore similar to that of Barnes and Noble. He'd want to look at different books with you and then chat about them over a cup of tea at an adjoining cafe.

France: I know it's kinda cliche at this point, but Francis would bring you to a fancy restaurant for a romantic, candle-lit dinner. Preferably in an area of the restaurant that is somewhat secluded. Hey, if it ain't broke don't fix it!

Russia: Ivan would simply want to go for a walk. Nothing big and fancy. He's perfectly content with something quiet and simple. He'd want to just stroll around town and chat about any of your shared likes or hobbies.

China: Maybe this is a little funny, seeing as he's so old, but Yao would take you to a museum. Mainly to constantly fact-check the workers there, as well as the displays. Especially if it's a Chinese museum. He's been around for 4000+ years, honey. He knows more than the people who work there.

Canada: Okay, this can go one of two ways. Matthieu would either take you on a nature walk through the beautiful Canadian woods, or he'd take you to a hockey game. Either way, the night will end with the two of you going in for a kiss, only to get interrupted by Mr. Kumajiro.

Denmark: I know this is gonna sound ridiculous, but Mathias would absolutely take you to the Lego Store. There is no way you can convince me that this man doesn't love Legos. He'd get cute little minifigures made of the two of you.

Sweden: I can see Berwald either being content with sitting at home and drinking hot cocoa, going to a musical performance of some kind, or, dare I say it, going to an IKEA and talking about what pieces of furniture would look the best in his or your living room.

Norway: Lukas would take you out into the woods late in the evening for the two of you to stargaze. He'd point out different constellations and tell you the stories behind them.

Finland: Alright, we all know Tino's a cutie, but don't let that adorable face deceive you. A first date with this man will either end up with him taking you to a heavy metal concert, or taking you out sharpshooting.

LUCIANO VARGAS (2P North Italy)

Age: 24 Height: 5’6 Weight: 142 lbs Personality/History: Luciano isn’t as crazy as most believe. Sure, he makes fun of people on a daily basis and finds torturing others for his amusement fun, but hey, at least he’s not on the levels of crazy as his father and brother are. He really is just a massive dickhead.

Luciano wasn’t raised by 2P Austria—instead by his father, 2P Rome (Remus). Remus by the time of Luciano’s birth was never fully sane in the head. He started to become angrier at the world, more bitter and cruel, but he hadn’t snapped yet. Yet.

Luciano was always the favourite over his brother 2P Romano (Nero). Luciano was strong. Tough. He wasn’t afraid of getting blood on his hands. Remus wanted to shape both of his sons into his mini me’s, but since with Nero it failed, he grew ever so distant to him and tried to raise his golden child into a fighter. It mostly worked. After a few years and a shit ton of problems, Nero ended up becoming Emperor after Remus had died, surprisingly, and became the exact tyrant he was, only more careless and maybe just a bit more deranged. Luciano ended up staging a coup against him—not for the good of the people, but because Nero’s stupidity inconvenienced his life. He assumed power, but after just a few years and a bit of a shitty reign, he stepped down and Remus’s brother Rome (Romulus) had to take over.. again.

In modern times, Luciano prefers to stick to himself, he doesn’t like talking about his past. Too messy. He keeps quiet unless he’s wreaking havoc on Luther or his brother or something, the latter resenting him while Luciano could really care less about him. He does enjoy spending time with Kuro, though, and will torment others with him.

(Luciano! Tbh I’ve started to think about him more, I don’t have many headcanons for him in the modern day but definitely during ancient times- I’ve been having trouble with when the Italy brothers were born so um yeah, I’ll work that out later.)

(I base him a bit off of Tiberius actually. Not in his actions, but in personality—dark, brooding, sadistic, but Luciano is calmer than Tiberius thank goodness.)

(Also, yes, I do see 2P Rome and Rome as siblings ;3)

More 2p Rome headcanons, please?

(I can’t find the first batch of headcanons for other people, for some reason. I’ll link them if I manage to find them though!)

- His full name is Remus Cassius Vargas, he doesn’t tell people his middle name as he hates it

- If anyone tries to speak to him in anything but Latin, he’ll refuse to acknowledge them. Some languages (like Italian, Spanish, etc.) are on VERY thin ice, he’ll response but be very disgusted about it.

- He has no idea how to cook/bale, how to clean, how to do laundry, etc. He always had people to do it for him so he never found a reason for him to have to learn to do such things

- He would fight Anzo (2p Germania) at any given point if he could. However, Anzo is extremely tall and weighs a lot more than him so he doesn’t, which is why he is around him a lot

- Doesn’t really understand personal space unless it’s his own, he hates people invading his but doesn’t care if he does it to someone

- He is always carrying a Mainz Gladius (a type of Roman sword) and no one can figure out why he does this because he never uses it

- He hates how Flavio dyes his hair and just glares at him for it

- Constantly rolls his eyes at people if he thinks they’re being stupid rather than dignifying them with a response

- Extremely loud, he does not know how to shut up and is almost always screaming at people

Ramblings on Roman Names

Nyo Rome’s name, Cornelia, is a reference to the family of the Cornelii, an exceedingly influential and powerful patrician family that produced some of Rome’s best statesmen and generals. It also refers to Cornelia, the daughter of Scipio Africanus (a hero of the Second Punic Wars) and mother to the Gracchii brothers, a pair of radical (compared to the Roman elite) reformers that were unfortunately murdered. Cornelia (the historical figure) was pretty invested in literature and writing, which was usually out of women’s roles, and she also played a role in her sons’ political careers. Both fit my interpretation of nyo Rome as one of those unusually powerful women who are more involved with “male” affairs of the state. (the only cons are that a) the name just means “horn” and b) Cornelia (the historical figure) was also pretty modest, dressing plainer than her status, and saying that her sons were her jewels; my nyo rome is a fair bit glitzier and likes her wealth and silks lol)

also thinking about giving her the name Lucretia as well, because a) the rape of Lucretia ushered in the Republic Era, which I see as a time nyo rome was more prominent than her 1p, b) the name means to succeed, and I think that fits her, and c) it just sounds nice

2P rome’s name is Tarquinius, named after the last and 5th kings of Rome; the last one especially was a really bad ruler (tyrannical, killed anyone he thought was a threat, son was the perpetrator of Lucretia’s rape :\ etc.). 

Rome’s name is either going to be Octavius or Septimus (as a reference to the 7 kings of rome and the 7 hills; the cons are that it means “seventh” and also isn’t very popular, since it doesn’t have an abbreviation). Octavius feels a little too close to Augustus, but it sounds nice and could just be Rome’s family/clan name (nomen) since it’s assigned to him instead of given

I'll give you some insider information about the Roman love story since it's one of the longer fics, of my own creation, that I'm bouncing between.

So, I know I've already said that Rome will turn his darling into a nation, but here's kinda what happens after the fic ends.

He does his best to hide her from everyone, but the leaders of the empire ruin that. They bragged about not only Rome having a wife, but once she was pregnant, it was used as a way of telling that they were thriving. Demeaning all the other leaders for their nations being barren.

When the other leaders would tell and demand that their own representatives go out and do the same, they couldn't. But it gave them hope. A belief that there was a way to ease the suffering of a long life.

Which in turn led to skirmishes during deligations, because Ignatius refused to give up the secret. He feared that if he did and they failed, they would destroy his one bit of peace in the tumultuous world.

And the old lion refused to allow that.

In the end, the method died with him. Though Luciano, Fabrizio, and Santino had different versions of the story told to them. If they would actually sit and discuss the story, they may find the clues to free themselves from romantic isolation.

(The other fics are, a rewrite of the Legend of Moutain Matt with a part 2, and continuing the choose your own adventure FNAF, plus working through asks. For those that are curious.)

I try to avoid darker headcanons on here. Especially because I try to also remain historically accurate but sometimes a headcanon just makes too much sense. So trigger warning for child abuse and food issues.

It's a suprise to no one that Rome LOVES food. Both 1p and 2p alike have huge appetites and could eat you out of house and home.

Augustus was a rambunctious and crazy kid. He was never great at listening, got yelled at a lot and yelled back at em. So there were a lot of days and nights he was sent to his room with no lunch or dinner. As an adult, he could buy all the food he wanted. Who could stop him? Certainly not Etruria. Or any mortal keeper. So this mans kitchen is stalked to the brim with food. Snacks mostly cuz he'll eat thoughout the day. Dont think that'll stop him from buying fast food on the way home though either.

How I feel about this character

I love him and I wish more people appreciated him. I see so many people in the hetalia tag writing beautiful essays on characters with way fewer appearances or even 2ps that are basically just OCs and wonder why people aren’t able to see the same for China? A literally ancient soul who’s seen so much joy and heartbreak and must have so many conflicting thoughts about the concepts nationhood and humanity and what it means to be human and probably often wonders whether immortality is a blessing or a curse? There is SO much there that the fandom could explore and play around with but…nah the fandom just ignores him. 🙃

My non-romantic OTP for this character

On a purely non-romantic basis, I gotta say I like the gourmet trio (China/France/Turkey). That should come back and be a thing again. We almost got it in the food court strips but Turkey didn’t make it.

My unpopular opinion about this character

I feel like gender and sexuality headcanons for him are some of the most controversial in the fandom, because no matter what your headcanon is, someone will be pissed off about it.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

Maybe THIS is an unpopular opinion but I want him to get some closure with Japan. As far as I’ve seen, Japan betrayed him but they never talked about it afterwards. I want to think this was a choice of Himaruya’s part to avoid heavy topics (and not the Japanese tendency to avoid acknowledging their history of imperialism and war crimes). It’s just weird to make a comic about that and then have China still behave very friendly toward Japan like nothing happened at all. I think some of this can be attributed to China’s character being very idealistic and craving what was/what could have been and projecting this through his behavior—but surely things aren’t all that happy between them in reality? At least a little bit awkward? We know Japan can read the room, so surely he realizes China’s behavior toward him is either somewhat false or at least projection? I’ll I just want them to have a conversation and a good cry together basically.
