Boy with a Pipe
Artist: Pablo Picasso (Spanish, 1881-1973)
Title: Garçon à la Pipe
Date: 1905
Medium: Oil on canvas
Collection: Private Collection
Garçon à la pipe was painted in 1905 when Picasso was 24 years old, during his Rose Period, soon after he settled in the Montmartre section of Paris, France. The oil on canvas painting depicts a Parisian boy holding a pipe in his left hand and wearing a garland or wreath of flowers.
Early preparations of this work involved positioning the boy in all types of poses that involved standing, sitting or leaning against the wall. After much repositioning of the model, Picasso decided to go with the boy sitting down. Next was how to position the arm, where much time was also spent on the height and angle.
Early works do not show any objects other than a pipe being used.Although Picasso started to paint this picture, he gave it a rest period for about a month. During this time, Picasso decided to finish it off by placing a garland of flowers on the boy's head.
Le Bateau-Lavoir in Montmartre is where Picasso was living when he painted the picture. Some of the local people made a living in the entertainment industry, such as being clowns or acrobats. Picasso used many local people in his pictures, but little is known about the boy in the picture.
What appears to be fact from comments made from a variety of sources is that the boy was a model in his teen years who hung around Picasso's studio and volunteered to pose for the oil work. Picasso's own comments about the boy were that he was one of the:
"local types, actors, ladies, gentlemen, delinquents... He stayed there, sometimes the whole day. He watched me work. He loved that. ”
From this comment, suppositions can be made. The first is that Picasso did not want people to know who the boy is, and the second is Picasso did not really know the boy.

The Martyrdom of Thomas Becket Dec 29, 1170
British Museum, London
This fourteenth-century English alabaster sculpture retains most of its original paint and gilding. It was made in Bakewell, England in the late medieval period.
It depicts the murder of archbishop Thomas Becket, also known as St Thomas of Canterbury.
To the right of the scene Becket kneels, dressed in red, before an altar prepared for Mass. Behind him are four fully armed knights, called Hugh de Morville, Richard Brito, William de Tracy and Reginald Fitzurse, the first of whom, probably Fitzurse, plunges his weapon into the archbishop’s head. Only a small stub of the blade survives. Standing behind the altar is Edward Grim, shown wearing clerical robes and carrying a cross-shaped staff. He receives a sword blow to his arm from the second knight.

3 Poems by Walt Whitman: No. 2, A Clear Midnight
A Clear Midnight
This is thy hour O Soul, thy free flight into the wordless, Away from books, away from art, the day erased, the lesson done, Thee fully forth emerging, silent, gazing, pondering the themes thou lovest best, Night, sleep, death and the stars.

The underground station at Baker Street also pays homage to Holmes, most notably with his statue and the tile art at the station itself. Of course Tiny Tarkin had to pose there!

After this, we went to the Waterstones and HMV where I bought a bunch of DVD’s and Blu-Rays for my collection, as well as a Hammer book!!!! After taking a quick nap we took an evening stroll in Hyde Park, trying to find the place where the carriage scene from Dracula ad 1972 was shot! We actually walked there with screencaps from the scene with us so we could compare lolllll. We think we found the bridge they cross in the beginning, but then again, the film was shot more than 50 years ago so a lot has changed since then. Ducky Drac and his brothers had a fun time though! The bats were even out!

October 29th 1740 James Boswell, the biographer, diarist and travel writer was born in Edinburgh.
James Boswell, ninth laird of Auchinleck, is best remembered for his biography 'The Life of Samuel Johnson' published in 1791. It was only in the latter part of the twentieth century with the recovery of his private papers and publication of his London journal of 1762-1763 that his qualities as a diarist came to light. The honest, frank and sometimes shocking insights into his personal, professional and social life provide an almost tangible description of his time. James Boswell was proud of his social rank and his ancestors. Thomas, first laird of Auchinleck, had been gifted the castle and barony in 1504 by James IV; and he claimed descent from a cousin of Lord Darnley (second husband of Mary Queen of Scots and father of James VI and I) on his mother's side.
Now I have since discovered that Boswell was actually born on October 18th The entry in the Old Parish Register for Edinburgh gives the names of three witnesses to the baptism which took place the same day, as seen in the first of the pics.
Reading more about Boswell, I have garnered a bit of a dislike for the man, having qualified as a lawyer, he travelled to London hoping to rub shoulders with ‘men of genius’, I mean we were in the throes of The Scottish Enlightenment, Edinburgh was a hotbed of intellectuals, another reason he left for London was to try and meet his literary hero, Samuel Johnson. He realised this ambition the following year when he met Johnson in a Covent Garden bookshop. The two men became close friends despite having differing views on topics such as the slave trade. Boswell called Johnson’s views against the slave trade ‘zeal without knowledge’ and published an anti-abolitionist poem No Abolition of Slavery; Or the Universal Empire of Love in 1791. Nevertheless, Boswell is chiefly remembered for another work published in 1791, his acclaimed Life of Samuel Johnson, in which the innovative use of colloquial language, conversation and short sentences helped to bring Johnson’s character to life.
On the 16th May 1791, Boswell published the Life of Johnson, a book which is widely regarded as the first modern biography. Previous to this biographies, such as they were, were idealised portraits of people such as military commanders and king, Boswell is said to have re-invented the biography. One reason Boswell was able to capture such a complete and vivid portrait of Johnson was that the writing of the biography could be said to have started on the day they met. In the journals he put in patches of verbatim dialogue as recorded in his diary.
His writings described sex, depression, drink, rows with his father, the drudgery of law, the great spectacle of life in London and in Edinburgh, but as well as being the first modern biographer and a prolific diarist, Boswell was also the first celebrity interviewer. He went to see the great French philosopher Rousseau, who tried to turn him away saying he was unwell and he could only spare a short time.
Boswell wrote 'I hate that phrase, short time' and he ended up chatting to him for six days.
Dumfries House is host to the Boswell Book Festival every May, inspired by the Ayrshire biographer James Boswell of Auchinleck, at the heart of the Festival is a programme of stories taken from the inspirational lives of people past and present - told through talks, drama, art and music.

Title: Cuteness Member - Skyler
Meet Skyler 🔵🎩🐱, a friendly allied of Blu's and BLUDiamondHTF1221's OC 🔵🐰 (Which, we'll meet him very soon). Skyler loves Sci-Fi's, all sorts of high tech machinery, and also likes lasers - all sorts of lasers, both harmed and harmless (mostly a laser pointer). Accompany by his trusty machinery hat to make genius inventions, claiming his position a machine inventor. But when he enrolls to "Cuteness Defender Academy" , he knows what he's doing as both "Cuteness Mecha Member" 🔫🤖 and "Cuteness Mechanical Crew" 🔧🤖, simultaneously! He suiting (which I made a choice) a giant tall "Indestructible" firing force to be wreck it! A "Prototype Heavy Assault Suit" called "Geymalk"! 🔫🤖😁
Geymalk Skyler Based on: AMX-015 Geymalk [CLICK ME!]
Armament(s):
• 2-barrel Beam Launcher The Geymalk is equipped with a pair of 2-barrel beam launchers, one mounted in each shoulder, and has a power rating of 2.3 MW.
• 2-barrel Mega Particle Gun Lining the sides of the Geymalk's hyper mega particle gun are a pair of 2-barrel mega particle guns with a power rating of 4.5 MW.
• 3-barrel Mega Particle Gun The Geymalk mounts a pair of 3-barrel mega particle guns with a power rating of 4.0 MW. They are built into the Geymalk's hands as "mitten" fingers. These fingers/mega particle guns serve poorly as manipulators, leaving the Geymalk unable to perform what would be considered "delicate" tasks for a armored suit.
• 3-tube Grenade Launcher Within the Geymalk's forearms are 3-tube grenade launchers. Each of these launchers can fire a total of three explosive rounds that can destroy a opponent's suit or damage a warship(s).
• Beam Rifle The Geymalk is equipped with a pair of beam rifles with a power rating of 2.3 MW. They are built into the Geymalk's thumbs and powered directly by the suit's generators.
• Beam Saber The Geymalk stores a pair of beam sabers in the knees with power ratings of 0.85 MW. These beam sabers are specially designed to be used by Geymalk's unique hands.
• Hyper Mega Particle Gun The Geymalk's most powerful beam weapon is a hyper mega particle gun which dominates the front of the torso. This massive beam cannon has a power rating of 30.5 MW, making it the third most powerful beam weapon used by a armored suit in the Universal Century timelines. Compare and surpassed to the armored Doven Wolf's beam rifle/mega beam launcher and the armored ZZ's High Mega Cannon.
• Mega Beam Cannon The Geymalk features two mega beam cannons, one stored in each leg below the beam saber's knee storage rack, each with a power rating of 3.8 MW. These beam cannons rises up and unfolds during use.
• Mega Particle Gun The Geymalk has a pair of mega particle guns that are mounted in its torso. These mega particle guns have a power rating of 5.5 MW, and are located right above the 2-barrel mega particle guns.
• "Mother" Funnels The Geymalk mounts a pair of large remote weapons known as mother funnels on its backpack. Though referred to as "funnels" these weapons are technologically "bits" as they possess their own power reactor. Both mother funnels are equipped with a single mega particle gun, however the true purpose of these mother funnels is to serve as carrying pods and recharge stations for 14 smaller "child funnels" each.
• "Child" Funnels Stored within each of the Geymalk's "mother funnels" are 14 child funnels, for a total of 28 funnels. These funnels are remote weapons powered by a rechargeable energy caps. Their energy is severely limited and must routinely return to their recharge racks in the mother funnels for their energy to be restored. Each funnel is equipped with a beam gun that has a power rating of 1.8 MW.
Special Equipment(s) / Feature(s):
• Psycommu system Researchers discover that Newtypes emit powerful thought waves - similar to regular brainwaves, but not electrical in nature - which they call psycowaves. The researchers goes on to develop a mind-machine interface called the psycommu (psyco-communicator) system, which receives these thought waves and translates them into computer commands. Using this interface a Newtype can direct remote weapons and operate huge mobile armors by thought alone.

vi. family & personal history
Born the only child to Sybil Walcott, a witch from the Weirwood Coven, made him the grandson of Eudora Walcott, the coven matriarch, a powerful witch and a well-respected figure in Weirwood Hollow, a small town in Vermont that sprung up in semi-secret after the famous witch hunts of the 17th century. Conway, through his mother's line, is a descendant of Mary Walcott, a survivor of the Salem witch trials, and through his father, Jeremiah Goode, is also descended from witch hunters. His parents, with their union, put their family's bloody feud behind them, and Conway was the result of that union.
Conway was raised around witches his whole life, and they loved him dearly despite his status as witch-born. He showed no magical ability beyond what humans were capable of, but his dormant witch-blood was still valued by other supernatural, and his family's status provided him with respect and protection within Weirwood Hollow. He is well versed in witch traditions, customs and festivities. His parents tragically died in a car accident out of state when Conway was five, so he was raised by his grandmother and their coven.
He has lived in Weirwood Hollow his whole life, and although he dreams of travelling to Europe, he sees this place as his home. He learned and loved baking from a young age, and is now the co-owner and head baker of his own bakery and tea shop. He also took over his family's famous apothecary, as his grandmother became too old to run it and too proud to sell it away. However, due to having little magical ability or talent, he is only able to prepare and sell ingredients and basic, non-magical tinctures and potions, reducing its status to grade four and allowing other apothecaries to pop up in Weirwood Hollow.

ABOUT THE SHOW:
The story of Eden has intrigued me since childhood and this exhibition is one of the results of that, undertaken with the greatest reverence to the countless great artists who have indulged in the very same obsession over time immemorial. Philosophically I’ve come away from it with more questions than answers, especially about the god it features, the strange and disturbing notion and concept of Original Sin, what really is this thing called evil… etc etc. How closely it resembles so many other creation stories, and how it also differs from them. The cherubim obviously impressed me, though I could not bring myself to depict them as the monstrous physically deformed creatures described elsewhere.. The sad, blood-soaked story of the first murder, for me, needs much more explanation than its given. The choice of the snake as the embodiment of evil, handmade of Satan… why? Poor womankind, the bringer of the species, its very womb, so demonized… how come, why? This exhibition is the edited version of these ruminations, perhaps there will be another to complete the process, if time allows. There are also two drawings here from another ongoing series, Dante’s Divine Comedy, of the pathetic plight of Paulo and Francesca, also, hopefully, another exhibition.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Stuart Hahn was born in Nevis in 1949 and was educated in Barbados and Trinidad to A level. He began his artistic career in commercial-advertising art before leaving that discipline to become a full time fine artist in his homeland, Trinidad. His exhibition career began in 1984 in Port of Spain, since then he has exhibited internationally, to the present day. He has illustrated local folklore and universal myths and legends, predominantly Greek and Judeo-Christian. His influences have been the Pre-Raphaelites, Symbolists, Art Nouveau, and early 20th century book illustration, the great Alf Codallo and the beauty of the people and landscape of his island home.

北海道東川町について from 旭川市アイヌ記念館(2024年9月7日)「カムイのうた」上映におけるサラシからの情報
The Cikappuni Ainu’s proof of existence: anecdote
Ever since arriving in Asahikawa, my heart has been deeply moved by two photos. This is in Arai Gennjirou’s (新井源次郎) ‘The screams of Ainu, Part 2’ 「続 アイヌの叫び」、where within it, there is one photograph taken in Shouwa 28, 29th August, in Hokkaidou University. In this photograph, there are five people, including:
Kawamura Kaneto (川村カ子ト)
Arai Gennjirou (新井源次郎)
Chiri Mashiho (知里真志保)
The other photograph which strikes me is the one taken in Shouwa 7, 10th June. It contains a photo of the Ueno station, and of an infant Sunazawa Tsuneo (Sunazawa Bikki) being held in the arms of Sunazawa Bellamonkoro, as they came to Toukyou to demand the return of the land of the Asahikawa Ainu.
These two photos tell the story of the lives of the Cikappuni Ainu in Asahikawa, the years still recent. No matter how many times you research it, the country, Hokkaidou, Asahikawa City, governmental workers, the army, merchants, all who have had vested interests and exploited the Indigenous people were violent.* Namely, ‘Former Aborigines Protection Law’「北海道旧土人保護法」being one. This law, in truth, was used largely effective in the process of exploitation.
‘Kawamura Kaneto Ainu Memorial Museum’ exhibits and discusses about the Ainu cultures, art, lifestyle cantering this century, especially this half of century. Along with these information transferred to the wider audience, it also connects the once lost products that represents the Ainu that had been washed away via being thought of as commodities, to be put on display to prove its existence despite everything.
Especially, I believe, caranke (negotiation) was a big part of the proof of existence for many of the exhibits in the museum. Incidentally, how much in total it is as there is no numbers on this, but a substantial amount of the country and Hokkaidou’s money was used in the name of indigenous protection.I believe this protection extend to the Asahikawa Memorial Museum’s funding.
In 2016 9th August, I attended the Pirika Ushikana Tourism conference, and the panelists were Shiraoi’s Nomoto Masahiro, Akan’s Akibe Hideo, Nibutani’s and Kawamura Hisae. This was a gathering of Ainu leaders from Hokkaidou, and each of what they had to say was though-provoking and interesting. I was proud to have been one of the panelists. We shared words of solidarity and congratulations in the Kawamura Kaneto Ainu Memorial Museum’ for the past one hundred years.
Evelyn (エバーグリーン) (Kawamura Kaneto Ainu Memorial Museum)
Translated by this account.
* It’s in the present tense, but due to the grammar of Japanese, it could mean it’s about the past. Hadley is not too sure which tense it is in. Even if it was in the present tense, it still stands on having the same opinion about the past at the end of the day, no matter which tenses were used. Due to this, I opted to use the past tense. It could mean the present as well… quite possibly.

Depuis Dancing Modernism/Performing Politics en 1995, il a publié Dance as Text: Ideologies of the Baroque Body traduit en Français par les Éditions de l’Éclat sous le titre La danse comme texte : Idéologies du corps baroque ; The Dancing Body in Renaissance Choreography: Kinetic Theatricality and Social Interaction (2022) ; The Work of Dance: Labour, Movement and Identity in the 1930s (2002) ; Martha Graham in Love and War : The Life in the Work (2012 )et, en 2020, The Fascist Turn in the Dance of Serge Lifar: Interwar French Ballet and the German Occupation. The Drama Review, Res: Anthropology and Aesthetics, Theatre Journal… Son œuvre de chorégraphe a obtenu le soutien du National Endowment for the Arts, the Harkness Foundation for Dance, the Getty Research Center for the History of Art and the Humanities, the Zellerbach Family Fund and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. NovAntiqua s'est produite au J. Paul Getty Museum (Malibu), au Berlin Werkstatt Festival, à la de la Torre Bueno Award Ceremony (Lincoln Center, New York), au Mueée d'Art de Toulon, à l'Opéra de Montpellier,au Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors Festival, aux Princeton University Theater and Dance Series, au Haggerty Art Museum (Milwaukee), et le ODC Theatre San Francisco.
