So, yesterday I finally made it to the Sherlock Holmes Museum in Meiringen. It is tiny and cute.
First picture is of the the upper level mini church.
Downstairs is the 221b Living Room reproduction. One can not enter it, because it is behind glass. The pictures look a bit 'off' because it was difficult to take pictures without reflections. It is filled with so many details one might spent hours there. The audioguide is very detailed and explains almost every item in the room. The last pic shows Watsons's writing table.

✨The Sherlock Holmes Museum✨
221B Baker Street, London
hi turtles! here it comes: the photo post to the sherlock holmes museum. i'll include my favorite pictures & the information i could actually keep in my silly brain (probably none). i'll number the pictures, so you can keep track.
please keep in mind that the place was pretty crowded and i couldn't take pictures of everything in perfect quality/from the perfect perspective.
the entrance (1) looks like this:
i especially loved the little blue sign (2) above and the "policeman" (3) dressed in a victorian policeman outfit - with a sherlock holmes tie 🥹 (i didn't get a picture of that, i thought it'd be weird to take a picture of him)
the living room (4).
there were two comfy looking armchairs, a fireplace (sadly without billy the skull 😔), and in the right corner you see the chemistry set of Holmes. with the violin right next to it.
in general, they tried to create the rooms exactly how Sir Arthur Conan Doyle described them in his books. it was described as small but with two big windows to the west side (was it west?? i can't remember...).
on the left you can see the desk (5), which i think was used by both: Holmes and Watson (not 100% sure about that tho). on the right you see what was hung up on the walls (6) (the guns lol).
on the opposite wall of the fireplace, you see the shooting marks (7), made by Holmes: the intials "VR" stand for "Victoria Regina" (= Queen Victoria) (Holmes' way to say "long live the queen" i guess? this man was fun when bored...)
and i took a picture of the "The Times" page (8) which laid on the desk because... apparently! i was in the musuem on the day Holmes and Watson moved in together (*johnlock heart explodes a little bit*) and you can see the date somewhere on there... (i found it. but i think she lied to us... imo it says july the 5th and i was there on august the 27th (*dramatic voice* UNbelievable! *excessive eye-roll*) (okay maybe i misunderstood her??? idk))
let's move on to Sherlock Holmes' bedroom.
on the bed were laying two boxes (9). one was with... idk random Holmes-stuff (honestly can't remember what she said to that...) and the second was with the iconic deerstalker inside. funfact about the deerstalker: ACD never mentioned this to be a signature feature of our beloved detective. this only became a thing later on. some dude, whose name i can't remember (i warned you about my silly brain), just decided he'll use that in a film production, because it would be much more accessible for the common folk. deerstalkers were mainly used by hunters and the working class. because Sherlock Holmes, who lived in a rather wealthy neighborhood, was a man of the upper class, he would have worn a different kind of hat (10).
this post is part 1 of a series, because apparently you can't upload more than 10 pictures per post (🙄🙄🙄). links for the next parts will be included once all have been uploaded.
-> part 2
-> part 3

It only took me five months but I finally cobbled together a little vlog of my trip to Switzerland! Watch me wandering around the vicinity of Interlaken being an absolute nerd.
Features me:
Explaining the eldritch nature of Frankfurt Airport
Trying to work out if Swiss cats speak German
Hiking up a mountain because I was too miserly to pay for the funicular railway
Getting my gait critiqued by a strange man while playing Real Life Minecraft
Pretending I am visiting Meiringen for the interesting geology and not because a fictional detective didn't fall off the top of a waterfall there
Cooing in awe at a lot of pretty wooden buildings.
COWS.

October 29th
aka, me losing all the money I had saved up for this trip because the autism joy got triggered.
Went to the Sherlock Holmes museum first! It’s this gorgeous 19th century building all filled with Victorian antiques and full of references to the books!
And would you know… THEY MENTION THE LADS IN THE MUSEUM!!!!!!!!! PETER CUSHING EVEN HAS HIS OWN BUST!!
We bought a bunch of goodies in the gift shop, but most importantly I got my own deerstalker and a plushy friend!
The underground station at Baker Street also pays homage to Holmes, most notably with his statue and the tile art at the station itself. Of course Tiny Tarkin had to pose there!
After this, we went to the Waterstones and HMV where I bought a bunch of DVD’s and Blu-Rays for my collection, as well as a Hammer book!!!! After taking a quick nap we took an evening stroll in Hyde Park, trying to find the place where the carriage scene from Dracula ad 1972 was shot! We actually walked there with screencaps from the scene with us so we could compare lolllll. We think we found the bridge they cross in the beginning, but then again, the film was shot more than 50 years ago so a lot has changed since then. Ducky Drac and his brothers had a fun time though! The bats were even out!
After this, we went back to the apartment to unwind and rest up for tomorrow.

Back in London, I go right to the Sherlock Holmes museum. I’ve not booked ahead, but am still able to get in after a relatively brief que. (If you reserve ahead then you can go in the faster lane/have timed entry. If you don’t you wait in the general line. I did find I could not book online via my phone.)
I really liked this- while it is admittedly very nerdy, it was also really neat to see all the rooms arranged like a Victorian slice of life, as well as catch some of the various details from the characters/mysteries.
The room where they paid note to the various actors and portrayals (including the great mouse detective) was especially charming.
It can get a bit claustrophobic, but the explanation at the start (they call it a guided tour but it’s more like a guided intro) helps keep it from being too crowded.

Meiringen
Without actually planning to do so, I found myself in Meiringen, again. I really hope this time I will have the time to see the Sherlock Holmes Museum for the first time - and maybe the Reichenbach-Fall for a second time.

✨The Sherlock Holmes Museum✨
221b Baker Street, London
!!! this is part 2 !!! (link to part 1, part 3)
continuation of Holmes' bedroom
above Holmes' bed hang these pictures (1). the guide didn't tell us anything specific about those.
opposite of the bed hang portraits of people (2&3). you might think they'd be from family members or friends. this is not the case with our lovely Mr. Holmes'. These portraits picture (serial? can't quite recall) murderers. They hang on Holmes' wall, because he wants to fully understand them, know how their minds work.
funfact about the woman in (4) (the guide just said "that woman over there" - there are two pictures of women tho... i assume she meant the woman that hangs higher... because her photo is bigger but i am not sure): she killed part of her family. but nobody believed a woman could do such a cruelsome act, so she was never arrested... and lived with the other part of her family until she died. (victorian sexism is almost funny ngl)
oh and my ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE PART was that SHERLOCK FREAKING HOLMES owns a TURTLE STATUE (5) and it CHILLS THERE IN HIS BEDROOM. (guys it's me. i don't know if you realize but trust me... sherlock holmes has a pet turtle/tortoise and it is me. )
now to Mrs. Hudson's room (6)
(please forgive me for the people in this picture. i felt kinda rushed and way too excited to take a better picture...)
after the living room and Holmes' bedroom (see part 1), the tour ended. imo this room is the most like a museum. it doesn't feel personal like the living room or the bedrooms (yes Dr. Watson's room will be included in the part 3), instead there were show cases and some decorations... i didn't get a picture of it all but here are my favorites. (focusing on the more personal items in this post)
oh! and if you look at (6) between that person in pink and that person in red, you see a little desk. on this desk was "Mrs. Hudson's guest book" (right underneath the window) and you could write your name in it!!! i loved that little detail! 🥰
there was a hat (7) and spinning wheel (8).
then the fireplace in victorian style with a painting above (9),
and before i move on to the more museum-like items in the next post, here is a (bad and blurry, with people in it - i am sorry 😭) wide-angle shot of the room (10) from the opposite side of (6).
this post is part 2 of a series.
-> part 1
-> part 3
(other parts will be linked once they have been uploaded)

London pt. 2 - visiting the Great Detective
On Tuesday I got up early, eager to explore. My first destination was Regent's Park.
It was a wonderful, bright morning, if still a bit chilly. But it got a lot warmer later in the day. I did a bit of journaling sitting on one of those benches before walking around the park for a while. I saw so many cute dogs, you guys have no idea. 🥰
Then it was time for one of the top priorities of my holiday. I've been a huge Sherlock Holmes fan for many years now & was so excited to visit the Sherlock Holmes Museum at 221B Baker Street.
My visit there was essentially made up of two parts. First a short guided tour of the first floor, then we were free to go off on our own. They only let a certain amount of people in at a time to protect the antiques. I was a little sad that at the end of my visit I didn't make it back to the living room again, as there was already the next group there. It's sadly not really a place where you can very well just spend as much time as you want. So I definitely get what people mean when they say the place is a bit tourist-y. I still had a great time and am so happy that I went there.
And the tour guide was really good. They're all dressed as house staff there, so this woman dressed as a maid was showing us around. I was pleasantly surprised by how informative that little tour actually was & how many details from canon and the history of Sherlock Holmes as a character were incorporated. Also, as she was explaining the pictures of real life murderers in Holmes' bedroom, she pointed out one whose last words before his execution had been "I am Jack". As she asked who he could have been referring to & people said Jack the Ripper, she replied, "I'm glad you're saying that, yesterday someone said Jack Sparrow". I don't know if that was genuine or part of her personal bit, but it got a laugh either way.
(Was surprised to see In Bed with Sherlock Holmes on display there lol.)
This chair was used by Sydney Paget, the original Holmes illustrator, for an illustration for The Greek Interpreter.
That picture on the right with the note attached is... sure something lol.
On the top floor there is a room that is dedicated to the history of the character, with different editions of the books and a timeline showing some notable adaptations and different actors who have played Holmes throughout the years. What bothered me a little was that Christopher Lee's Sherlock was mentioned, but not that he also played his brother Mycroft in Billy Wilder's The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes (1970). I know they only have very limited space on that thing, but I will ot stand for TPLoSH erasure lol.
On the other hand, they had this little shrine set up for Jeremy Brett, so that was lovely. ❤️
#wrote “it was worth a wound” into the guest book. I had to.#personal#travel#London#Sherlock Holmes#Sherlock Holmes Museum
