YOUR 2024 August Horoscope

     August 2024 is one helluva cosmic rollercoaster. One of those roller coasters that you find at a fly-by-night carnival, and wonder to yourself “did they install this correctly? Are ALL the nuts and bolts in place?” This is actually the same type of question you’ll likely have for yourself as you move through August.

     Because Mercury does station retrograde. On the Leo New Moon, (which as a Leo Rising, pisses me off MAJORLY). Then, we have Venus changing signs twice, and some tricky, potentially sticky-but-hopefully-not-too-incendiary interactions between Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, followed by a really WILD CARD Aquarius Full Moon. By the time the Sun enters Virgo, though, things begin to cool off and de-crunch. Sorta. 

     If all of that sounded like a bunch of mumbo jumbo, fret not! In layman's terms, it means that for the majority of the month, technology, communications and your Insta feed are going to get a little wonky. Mercury retrograde is the reason you lose your keys, misplace your documents, have to buy a new phone because your other one just suddenly stopped working, can’t download/upload that file, and much, MUCH more.

     So, yes: August is essentially filled with the aforementioned tech glitches and communication mishaps—because Mercury is retrograde Aug. 4 thru Aug. 28—but it’s also a great month to slow the f*ck down. Not just because of Mercury Retrograde. Yes, Mercury Retrograde encourages you to slow down, to assess and review, but also forthcoming squares from Mars & Jupiter (in Gemini) to Saturn in Pisces are going to FORCE you to slow down. They are metaphorical red lights. They are also days of friction, tension, and restless indecisiveness. 

     When the planets of action, confidence, and expansion (Mars and Jupiter, respectively) butt heads with the planet of limits and restrictions (Saturn), your forward motion is stalled. It’s like trying to drive with the emergency brake on. You can move, but accelerating is a challenge. This happens on Aug. 15 & Aug. 17. Before that, Mars & Jupiter collide in Gemini on Aug. 14, and it’s like full-blow traveling circus energy. Jamboree, free-for-all, fuck it and find out. Current and upcoming astrological events August/September 2023

What to expect…

At the moment we are under Full Moon phase (Full Super Blue Moon in Pisces), where emotions may be high, some tension could be around and we are easily influenced from others feelings and emotions. Projects may see results or endings. Good time for spiritual practices and healing.

Mercury (in Virgo) is in its retrograde motion since August 23, 2023 therefore, problems with traveling and transportation may occur. Communication issues and misunderstandings are likely. Be careful with communication devices and vehicles (from damage, breaks) as well as data, important documents, personal information, passwords which could be lost or stolen. Avoid signing contracts, if possible, if not double check the content for possible mistakes or misleading information. It is a good time for study and research. Mercury will turn direct on September 16, 2023.

Another retrograde planet is Uranus (in Taurus) since August 28, 2023 which suggest that it is a period of personal reflection and rather inner growth, and awakening. This could lead to important realisation and alternative prospective in our lives where we can make major life changes where necessary. Uranus will turn direct on January 27, 2024.

On September 4th, Venus is moving direct, finally…It will be a good time in terms of finances, love and relationships. It is also an appropriate time for beauty procedures and even late summer holidays. On this very same day, however, Jupiter goes Retrograde (in Taurus) which may cause delays when it comes to big- future orientated projects and ventures.

Long distance travels may also slow down or disrupted in one way or another. We may reflect, revise or reassess our believe system and philosophy of life, on a personal level and as a collective. However, this could be a great period of higher learning – further education, university study/degree; religion and philosophy or natural science. It is also a great time for spiritual practises, especially in nature or doing some charity work in food banks/supporting people with basic material needs. Jupiter retrogrades in Taurus could also talk about slowing down the economies, property market and land/agriculture businesses in a global level. On December 30, 2023, Jupiter will turn direct in the same sign.

𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟒𝐭𝐡 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟗𝟔𝟑. At 12:45 am, Lena was born at The Rankin Memorial Maternity Hospital, Greenock.

RANKIN MEMORIAL HOSPITAL, GREENOCK (demolished) The Rankin Memorial Hospital opened on 17 August 1938. It replaced the Togo House Maternity Hospital and the children’s hospital at Shaw Place. Miss D. Rankin donated £41,000 to build and equip the new combined hospital.

The architect was James Watson Ritchie, for H.M. Office of Works. It was designed as a long low, two‑storey building in three sections with maternity to the west and children to the east of the central administration section. All the blocks were rough‑cast. There was accommodation for 28 women and 28 children, and the 13 1/2-acre site was laid out by Greenock Corporation Parks Department.

A ceremonial silver key, made by Hendry & Co. of Birmingham, England, was presented to Miss Rankin on the opening of the hospital by the Burgh of Greenock Corporation. It has been preserved in the McLean Museum and Inverclyde Archives. It is inscribed: ‘Presented to Miss Rankin by the Corporation of Greenock on the occasion of the opening of the Rankin Memorial Hospitals 17th August, 1938’. Miss Rankin having funded the erection of the hospital then handed it over to the Corporation.

Following transfer to the National Health Service in 1948 plans were drawn up for extensions and a nurses’ home, and a special baby-care unit designed in 1979 by Ross, Doak and Whitelaw. The Rankin closed in 1994 and the site redeveloped with housing.
