Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti died in the electric chair on August 23, 1927. They were accused of killing two men during an armed robbery.
The trial and subsequent appeals attracted enormous interest internationally, and generated vehement protests. Sacco and Vanzetti were considered to be victims of prejudice against immigrants, Italians, Catholics, and anarchists. John Dos Passos, Dorothy Parker, Edna St. Vincent Millay, George Bernard Shaw, and Albert Einstein were among those who wrote about the case or signed petitions.
The photo above shows a demonstration in Union Square on the day of the men's execution.

Mistigram: National #RideTheWind Day celebrates the anniversary of the winning of the #KremerPrize for human-powered flight back in 1961, but AdeptApril has chosen a more liberal interpretation of the holiday's name, illustrating it in #ANSIart with hot-air balloons.

The bus was late today, a sentence I can say in several languages, because it's one of those things they teach you when you learn new languages, apparently.
A person at the bus stop was clearly also waiting for my bus, muttering at his phone where he checked the same app that told me about the delay. He was French speaking, but his complaints about the bus were in an accented Dutch.
Every time a bus arrived at this busy bus stop, we would both look up hopefully only to find disappointment together. A few laughs. Checking the app. Four more minutes, we would say to each other.
Eventually the bus arrived, 26 minutes late, and we both stood up in anticipation. But you see, this bus stop was one of those bigger ones, where you an easily transition and where the busses go to sleep at night. Where there is a little building for drivers to take a break, go to the toilet, have a drink, and all that jazz.
A few minutes later a new bus arrived, the exact same one. Same number, same destination. They're on a half hour interval, you see, and this one was right on time. The driver parked right next to the other one and disappeared inside as well.
The absurdity was not only noticed by me, for the man chuckled at me, moved forward, and took a picture. Two buses standing next to each other, like twin brothers, almost identical. It certainly was a comical sight.

23 August 1965
A party is thrown at the home of Alan Livingstone, president of Capitol Records. In attendance are Edward G Robinson, Jack Benny, Vince Edwards, Gene Barry, Richard Chamberlain, Jane Fonda, Rock Hudson, Groucho Marx, Dean Martin, Hayley Mills and James Stewart. And the Beatles.
I'm sorry this is just a really weird list of people.

Buttered Corn Day
There are six different kinds of maize, or corn, and one of them is sweet corn, the kind that is most often celebrated on National Buttered Corn Day. Corn was first domesticated by Indigenous peoples in southern Mexico thousands of years ago, and more corn is now produced around the world than wheat or rice, although not all of it is used for human consumption. Sweet corn is picked when the kernels are still soft, and it is cooked in many different ways. Most commonly it is boiled or steamed on a stove, roasted or grilled on a grill or in an oven, or microwaved. Many times skewers are put on both ends of the cob after the husk is removed so it can can more easily be held, and butter, salt, and pepper are common seasonings used on the corn. It also can be cut off the cob and eaten with a fork. It can be a pretty healthy snack if it is not overloaded with butter and salt, as an ear of corn usually isn't much more than 100 calories, and is high in fiber. But, being that today is National Buttered Corn Day, you probably shouldn't worry too much about your health just this once.
How to Observe Buttered Corn Day
Celebrate the day by eating buttered corn! Eat it on the cob! Eat it off the cob! Just make sure you use lots of butter!
