Ten Days of Tenzo 2023: Day 4 (Nov 4)

Each year, the prompts for Ten Days of Tenzo are open to your interpretation! We enjoy all the TDOT participation, and we wanted to give some ideas for how you could interpret each prompt.

Tenzo of the Kingdom

You might think that this prompt is inspired by a love for Legend of Zelda, and you'd be correct! But there's more to this prompt than Hyrule shenanigans.

This prompt invites ALL the Royal AUs. Imagine a majestic Tenzo as King, Emperor, Frog Prince, Courtier, Royal Heir Recovered, etc. where he's never expected to pick up the lunch tab (it's what he deserves)! Or maybe he's the most trusted knight/warrior in the land charged with the safety of all who dwell within?

If you'd rather skip the shiny armour, Tenzo of the Kingdom could also be a saviour of the people (a la Robin Hood)! Imagine Konoha's biggest helper as the champion of the oppressed, quite at home camping deep within a forest.

And if you, like us, are an LoZ geek, let both your imagination and Tenzo run amok in Hyrule! How would he react to the Great Deku Tree? How would he react to Evermeans? Could he befriend Skull Kid? Is he Team Shiekah, or Team Yiga? Consider: Twilight Tenzo. Would he ninja-sprint to the final battle with Ganondorf, or would he succumb to the distractions of 1000 Korok puzzles? There are so many possibilities for Tenzo of the Kingdom, and we're excited to see how you interpret it!

Festivals

There are several festivals in the Naruto series, from the Quarrel Festival where people fight over Cats/Dogs, to the Rinne Festival where people exchange gifts. What other festivals might Tenzo want to celebrate? The Hidden Leaf Sports Festival? The Festival of the Screaming Trees? The Bring Your Best Helper Festival? DIY your own ninja (or AU) celebration!

Maybe you're drawing from personal experience. If you'd like Tenzo to celebrate the festivals that mean the most to you, go for it. For example, this beautiful depiction of Tenzo celebrating Diwali is just one of several ways to take on a prompt like this. There are tons of ways we can honour the wonderful traditions we may all have and respect their origins!

Maybe, we're thinking about the specific subculture of festivals through art and music. Can you see Tenzo attending Woodstock (no pun intended)? Performing at a music festival? Trying for crisis management at the Land of Fyre Fest? There are so many kinds of events, and we'd love to see where this prompt takes you!

Unroll the possibilities! Rip open that exciting new letter! (Or slit it with a proper letter opener . . . or the nearest sharp implement, like a real ninja; we won’t judge. . .)

🍃 How many mission scrolls has Kakashi been featured in, reported back with, or . . . ‘forgotten’? Or taken missions so discreet there are no reports filed at their end? 🍃 What an excellent excuse for an epistolary story, if that’s your cup of tea! Personal letters, mission reports, archive records, family register, or a mixture of any and all await! 🍃 Delve into the Archives - how young was Kakashi the first time he saw all the accumulated records of missions and personnel? What did he think? Or what does he think now? Avoid them like the plague? Have the cataloguing system memorised without effort (to the surprise of Some People)? 🍃 Break hearts with a goodbye letter prepared just in case. . . (With an optional fix of it being discovered when moving in together, or while someone is recovering in the hospital, and not post-death.) 🍃 Does Kakashi have scrolls of exciting jutsu collected or brought back from other ninja villages, or go out of his way to acquire them? 🍃 Is it a surprise to see Kakashi sending (or receiving) a letter while he’s parted from someone special by a mission, his or theirs? Does he show a delighted reaction at receipt (or while writing it) or hide it? Is he surprised by one?

the violence in bottoms (2023) is so satisfying in a way i don't really know how to put into words. somewhere between the violence against women that movies sometimes shy away from too much but also Lean Into a little too much (spectrum of either not depicting realistic violence/harassment due to discomfort with it or the "you can't hit her she's a girl!" concept vs gratuitous sensationalized violence). like it's that "boys will be boys" kind of roughhousing that girls are excluded from if the narrative frames them as too delicate / feminine / untouchable. and i see them beating the shit out of each other and it feels Good. they're not untouchable dolls nor are they objects to project malice and gratuitous violence onto! it's not even fully about the empowerment or seeing girls be able to fight back (which does feel amazing in its own right and the movie does a great job of delivering it) like even seeing like, idk black widow beat up a bunch of guys in a marvel movie doesn't feel the same as how bottoms does it. it feels unpolished and grounded and realistic and satisfying. #girlswillbegirls
