Sixty fun & fascinating facts about the classic Supergirl (4 / 4)
Tumblr media
At last, the final fifteen fun facts in a series to mark the sixtieth anniversary of Kara Zor-El’s debut in DC Comics. This is the last batch of Supergirl info-nuggets, bringing the trivia total up to sixty, one for each year since her introduction.
As before, each snippet of data relates to the original Supergirl, the intrepid Argo City teen who leapt from that crumpled Midvale rocket ship. Covering her original Silver and Bronze Age incarnation, in comics and on screen, each factoid is calculated to intrigue and delight – hopefully even seasoned Kara fans will find a few morsels of trivia that had previously escaped their attention.
So, one last time: enjoy…
Tumblr media
46. At one point she was blacklisted from being mentioned in DC publications.
In 1985 to mark its 50th comicbook publishing anniversary DC Comics launched a mini-series, Crisis on Infinite Earths, that sought to rejig its entire fictional universe to better address the new, more mature, direct sales audience. Childish elements were removed and iconic characters rebooted. Superman was to be recast as the only survivor of Krypton, meaning Supergirl not only had to die but be erased from all past events too. DC, however, decided that erasing Kara from fictional history was simple not cruel enough -- in a move straight out of a George Orwell novel DC airbrushed her from in-real-life history too.
Supergirl became she who shall not be named, seemingly banned from being mentioned, even in the editorial pages. When DC couldn’t avoid using her name, as happened in Secret Origins #42 (July 1989) when discussing Phantom Girl’s first appearance, they masked it with asterisks like an expletive -- ”S*P*RG*RL”. DC even went as far as to exclude Kara from a bio of writer Paul Kupperberg in the pages of Power Girl #2 (July 1988), despite Kupperberg‘s long tenure as Supergirl’s chief writer, and Power Girl being a parallel-universe re-imagining of Kara. Yet the Maid of Might remained popular with at least some DC staffers, as Alan Brennert proved when Kara made a highly unauthorised crafty cameo in his Deadman story inside Christmas with the Super-Heroes #2 (1989) -- Brennert only avoided censorship thanks to DC editor-in-chief Dick Giordano volunteering himself to do the story’s artwork.
47. Prior to her role as Supergirl, Helen Slater had struggled with eating disorders.
In an obscure 1988 interview for UK tv with psychologist Oliver James, Helen Slater talked frankly about how winning the role of Supergirl helped in her ongoing battle with Anorexia and Bulimia. Asked about the cause of the conditions, “Control was one part of it”, Slater admitted, adding, “I think Bulimia especially, which I did suffer from from 13 [...] is a lot to do with not having a safe space to express anger.” She went on to credit her Supergirl fitness trainer, Alf Joint (“the most beautiful man in the world”) with overcoming some of her fears around food by using Chocolate Brazils (chocolate dipped nuts) as positive reinforcement after a hard training session.
48. She celebrated her 75th birthday in 2018.
It is generally accepted that Kara Zor-El’s birthday, when using the Gregorian calendar on Earth, is 22nd September. That date comes from a reply to a reader’s letter published in Adventure Comics #389 (Feb 1970), but said reply didn’t give the year of Kara’s birth, meaning readers couldn’t work out Kara’s age. (“One should never trust a woman who tells one her real age”, wrote Oscar Wilde, ”A woman who would do that would tell anything.”) Fortunately a little bit of detective work means that fans can work it out. A story in Action Comics #305 (Oct 1963) gives the date of Kara’s arrival on Earth as 18th May 1959, and both the Daring New Adventures of Supergirl #1 (Nov 1982) and Action Comics #270 (Nov 1960) suggest that Kara was 15 years old when she landed. This means that she was born in 1943. So, as of her most recent birthday at the time of writing (22nd September 2018), she would require 75 candles on her birthday cake. Good thing she has Kryptonian super-lungs..!
Tumblr media
49. Her nickname was Hot Dog.
Every fan knows that Kara Zor-El is Supergirl, and that Supergirl is Linda Lee Danvers, but how many fans know that Linda Lee Danvers was also... “Hot Dog”..?!?!!
Yup, that was her name when she was dating Philip Decker, music conductor and part-time lecturer at Lake Shore University, Chicago. The pair’s romance had blossomed in the pages of Supergirl Vol. 2 thanks to a shared love of Jazz music, and they spent an increasing amount of time together in each other’s apartments. It was during one such session of intense snuggling that Philip let slip his nickname for Linda: “Hot Dog”, a name what was met with uncontrollable giggles from Linda.
50. Her makeup bag hid a couple of super secrets.
Of course, if you’re one of the world’s greatest superheroes it is important to look your best when saving the world, but Kara’s beauty kit not only helped keep her looking immaculate while fighting injustice, but also concealed a couple of tricks to keep her dual identity a secret too. In Action Comics #270 (Nov 1960) Kara celebrated her sixteenth birthday. Her gift from the Man of Steel was an innocent looking lipstick which, in reality, hid a secret compartment to stash her super-compressed costume. “If you ever have to conceal your costume quickly, or remove it to go swimming...”, explains Superman (perhaps anticipating other activities that a young woman might get up to that could require stripping off clothing.)
Years later, in Supergirl Vol. 2 #17 (Mar 1984), Kara added more secrets to her makeup bag when she finally decided to ditch her brunette Linda Danvers wig. She still needed a way to switch from Supergirl’s flowing blonde locks to Linda’s brunette bob, of course, and the alternative she devised was a special energized comb that reacted with colour-sensitive molecules to instantly transform her hair’s style and colour. Clever stuff..!
51. She and Brainiac 5 weren’t really an item.
Despite now being firmly romantically linked in the eyes of many comic fans, Brainiac 5 and Supergirl’s relationship only really became serious during the 1990s Earth Angel era. Back in the Silver Age, when the pair first met in Action Comics #276 (Apr 1961), Kara was initially weary of Brainy, recognising his family resemblance to Superman’s arch foe. Her attitude softened, however, as the story unfolded, even calling him “sweet” by its close. As the years rolled by Brainy is clearly smitten by Kara, but she rarely reciprocated his affections. Finally, in Legion of Super-Heroes Vol. 2 #294 (Dec 1982), Brainy brings matters to a close: “You remember that crush I had on you? [...] I think I’ve finally worked it out of my system.”. In response Kara teases, “Really? What a shame. Here I was, starting to think how cute you were.” (Needless to say, Brainy is left dumbfounded as Kara promptly flies off.)
Kara dated numerous men during the Silver and Bronze Age, including long-term relationships with Dick Malverne and Philip Decker, but these were generally in her Linda Danvers identity. Brainy is the closest thing “Supergirl” came to a boyfriend -- perhaps that’s why some fans like to focus more on him rather than Linda’s beaus.
Tumblr media
52. She was a fan of The Bionic Woman.
One of the problems of being a superhero is that your evenings are often taken up saving the world, leaving little time to catch up with popular tv shows. But on her odd evenings off-duty, what was likely to be on the Maid of Might’s tv screen? Unsurprisingly, Kara seems to have been a fan of superheroine shows, as demonstrated by comments in Superman Family #184 (July 1977) while she was battling an unnaturally fierce electrical storm in the skies over Santa Augusta. “Great way to spend an evening out”, complains a frustrated Girl of Steel, “If this storm doesn’t let up, I’ll miss ‘The Bionic Woman--!’”
53. She was a big fan of seat belts and personal computers, apparently.
Being a superhero doesn’t pay very much, if anything at all. That’s why DC Comics always liked to line up product endorsements for its big stars, and the Girl of Steel was no exception. Supergirl’s first apparent appearance in adverts (outside of selling DC’s own magazines) was in a late 70s commercial for kid’s underwear, but pretty soon DC had secured more prestigious work for Kara when in 1981 they had her extol the virtues of Tandy’s new line of 8 bit micro computers. More important work came in the mid-80s, when Kara teamed up with Honda and the US Department of Transportation to promote the adoption of car seat belts. The Maid of Might appeared in two full-length give-away comics (and on-screen Helen Slater even appeared as Supergirl in a tv advert.) Kara was so committed to the cause of road safety that she even did the second give-away comic after her death in Crisis on Infinite Earths -- now that’s dedication for you..!
54. Only one woman worked on her comic-strip during the entire Silver and Bronze age.
It is a sad reflection of the industry in the 60s and 70s that if one totals up all the writers, artists, and editors, who worked on the Supergirl strip during the Silver and Bronze Age, there’s only one female name on the list: Dorothy Woolfolk. Editor for Supergirl Vol. 1 #1 (Nov 1972) only -- yup, a single issue -- Dorothy launched the Girl of Steel into her first self-titled comicbook before giving way to industry veteran Robert Kanigher for issue #2. Allegedly a larger-than-life figure, Dorothy was a rare example of DC allowing a woman to work outside of the romance genre during the Golden and Silver Age; she is even credited by some with suggesting the idea of Kryptonite to Superman writer Jerry Siegel.
(Away from Supergirl’s own strip, two other women briefly worked as editors on comics featuring the Girl of Steel in a guest capacity. Karen Berger and Laurie Sutton both edited 1980s Legion of Super-Heroes issues containing Kara cameos.)
Tumblr media
55. Her most iconic costume contained a pair of clocks.
The problem with slinky skin-tight superhero costumes is that they don’t leave much room for the practical necessities of life... like pockets... or watches. But that never stopped the Girl of Steel from sneaking a few hidden practical elements into her outfits. Most fans know that the inner lining of her cape hides a secret pocket (where she stashes her everyday clothes when out superhero-ing), but how many fans realised that the three discs aligned over each hip on her iconic 70s hot pants outfit actually acted as a pair of clocks? According to Krypton Chronicles #2 (Oct 1981), by placing three fingers on the discs over her right hip Kara is telepathically informed of the time in New York (her then home), while the same action on her left hip reports the time in Kandor (Krypton’s capital, famously miniaturised in a bottle by Brainiac.)
56. The USA was actually one of the last countries to see the Supergirl movie.
The Girl of Steel may have been able to zip around the world in an instant, but apparently her movie couldn’t. After opening on Thursday 19th July 1984 in the United Kingdom, then days later in Ireland and Japan, the movie slowly made its way around the world, opening in the Philippines, Australia, and Spain during August, and then France and Canada during October. By mid-November, however, American audiences were yet to see the Maid of Might grace cinema screens.
The delay was caused by Warner Bros. withdrawing from its US distribution deal near the end of production, causing producers to scramble for a replacement. Eventually, on Wednesday 21st November -- over four months after the UK debut -- the Supergirl movie hit US cinema theatres thanks to fledgling distributor TriStar Pictures, but with almost 20 minutes of material chopped out. It wasn’t until 1998 that the full international cut was legitimately available in the US thanks to an Anchor Bay VHS video release.
57. She was Wonder Woman’s sister.
Incredible as it may seem, for a brief period Supergirl was Wonder Woman’s sister. The incident happened in Supergirl Vol. 1 #9 (Dec 1973) after Kara finally had enough of being two-timed by boyfriends as Linda Danvers, and hit upon by men as Supergirl. When Kara bravely rescues an Amazon warrior ship under attack by fierce sea creatures, Queen Hippolyta offers to adopt her as a daughter, making Kara the sister of Princess Diana (aka Wonder Woman.) Realising that the Amazon’s island home is free of men, Kara accepts, but a medical emergency forces her back out into the Man’s World to seek the ingredients for a serum. With the emergency over, Kara considers that maybe she was too hasty in turning her back on all men, and leaves her new Amazon home to give them a second chance.
Tumblr media
58. She valued her privacy.
When you have as many extraordinary abilities as the Girl of Steel, the usual fears and phobias just don’t apply. Why be afraid of heights when you can fly? Why be afraid of snakes when your skin is not only fang proof, but bullet proof? But Daring New Adventures of Supergirl #4 (Feb 1983) revealed that there’s one thing guaranteed to make Kara Zor-El flee in terror -- fear of having her everyday identity exposed. The issue sees Kara hypnotised into seeing her greatest fear by the villain Ms. Mesmer: as a result Supergirl continually sees her Linda Danvers identity reflected back at her in windows and mirrors. Convinced that everyone can see through her disguise, Kara seeks solace with her adopted parents. It is only thanks to the calming influence of her mother, Edna Danvers, that Kara has the courage to go back out onto the streets as Supergirl to defeat Ms. Mesmer.
59. Her first kiss was with a very hirsute Jimmy Olsen.
The opening season of the Supergirl tv show teased a possible romance between Kara and James Olsen, and in some ways this echos very early Supergirl stories where the pair were occasionally seen as a potential love-match. Indeed Jimmy Olsen was actually Kara’s first kiss, although the event came about in a highly unorthodox way. The pages of Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #44 (Apr 1960) saw Jimmy transformed into a werewolf, and Superman reasons that the curse can only be lifted by the kiss of a young girl. In steps a fifteen year old Kara Zor-El, who gives the cub reporter a delicate peck on the lips, reversing the spell. A year later Jimmy managed to turn himself into a werewolf for a second time(!) in Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #52 (Apr 1961), but Kara’s kiss proved ineffective that time.
60. She didn’t entirely die in Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Obviously it is a matter of record that the original Kara Zor-El gave up her life in Crisis on Infinite Earths #7 (Oct 1985) – at least until DC later saw fit to retcon that particular story line – but in their attempts to erase the Maid of Might from existence, DC had forgotten about a rather inconvenient story published just a year before, in Supergirl Vol. 2 #19 (May 1984).
The tale dealt with a Supergirl clone who had assumed the identity of Linda Danvers. The clone had no super powers, but she did have all of Kara’s memories and personality. The story ends with a twist: rather than take the easy way out by having clone-Kara conveniently fall under the wheels of a speeding bus, writer Paul Kupperberg has the two Kara’s work out a deal. ”It’s a big world out there… with plenty of room for two people with this face!“, explains Supergirl, “We can find a place for you… a name of your own…” And with that the two Karas go their separate ways, meaning that although superpowered-Kara may have surrendered her life in Crisis, powerless-Kara (her clone) presumably continued to live out a regular life anonymously somewhere in America.
Tumblr media
And that’s it -- all sixty..! Thanks for reading, Hope you enjoyed the series and learned at least a few snippets of trivia along the way that you found amusing or thought-provoking.
Don’t forget to come back in 2048, when it will be time to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Matrix Supergirl... Or maybe not..!

Interview: Why Ricciardo left Red Bull
On Friday August 3, Daniel Ricciardo surprised pretty much everyone associated with Formula 1 by announcing his decision to move to Renault in 2019.
The idea that Ricciardo could leave Red Bull had been a very real possibility for a while, but it was one that appeared to be shrinking after confirmation Mercedes would stick with Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas. And yet, just a few days before dropping the bombshell, Ricciardo did not know what he was going to decide.
Reflecting on the biggest decision of his F1 career to date, Ricciardo admits there were a number of options on the table that were appealing, two of which he hadn’t been expecting.
“I knew obviously the options had been squeezed down,” he tells RACER, recalling the last time he got in a Red Bull car at the Hungaroring before settling on the move “At that stage I knew Mercedes wasn’t happening and Ferrari as well, I knew that wasn’t happening. So I knew it was really between Red Bull, McLaren and Renault. I just wasn’t sure, really.”
When the decision was made, it caught many people out – none more so than Red Bull team principal Christian Horner, who had been expecting Ricciardo to sign a new deal that week. Inevitably, questions were asked and reasons were sought within the Milton Keynes factory, with the emergence of Max Verstappen and his subsequent contract extension – despite already having one that ran longer than Ricciardo’s – cited as a potential factor.
The Australian sees similarities to his arriving at Red Bull in 2014 and getting the better of four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel: the more established driver was faced with a younger teammate coming to the fore as a future team leader.
“I didn’t really ever see it as I broke whatever they had ,” he says. “I think the biggest thing for me that year was I achieved what I believed I was capable of, and that was the most gratifying thing for me.
“I’d never gone head-to-head with Seb, but I’d watch onboards and things like this, and I knew he was quick and I knew he was talented, but I was like, ‘I think I can do that, I really believe I can do what he’s doing’. So I wasn’t surprised when I was able to do it, but it was cool for me to prove to myself what I believed I could do.
“But I thought Seb handled it really well that year. I’m sure maybe behind closed doors he was showing frustration, but always with me, whether I won, or in races like Bahrain where I passed him, or Monza where we had a good battle and I passed him, he always came up and showed me the respect. He was like,: ‘Good battle, you fought hard and you were clean’ and he respected that. I’m sure it’s not the way that he wanted it to go, but…
“So I don’t feel like I broke the team up, so to speak, I think he just respected that I was bringing some heat. I think that was also a bit of a sign for him that it was his time to move on, and maybe I was the next guy to run with the team.”
Just as it had hoped to keep Vettel in 2015, Red Bull wanted Ricciardo to stay beyond last year. Negotiations had dragged on, and the team felt it had made all the concessions necessary to keep the 29-year-old happy. So had Red Bull really offered him everything he asked for?
“I don’t know, I guess it got close to what I wanted,” he admits. “There were a few things. What I was going back and forth with was, originally they wanted to do a two-year deal, and because I’d already questioned if I wanted to do another year there, doing two years… I was a bit concerned with me personally; with my motivation to still be there.
“I was just thinking if Honda doesn’t work, next year’s a year of frustration, then am I really going to want to do another year on top of that, or am I just going to get a bit over it? So initially the two-year thing was something that concerned me, so then it was like, ‘OK, let’s try and push for a one year’ and if the Honda works, great, we’ll extend it and whatever. Easy.
“But then one year felt risky. It felt like I wasn’t really achieving anything by signing a one-year. I don’t know, it just didn’t really add up. So what I thought I wanted, I didn’t really want in the end. So there wasn’t really anything for me. The two-year, for me, I didn’t really feel I wanted, and a one-year was like it puts me in this position again in 12 months time, and I don’t really want to be back in this position to be honest, because it’s starting to become a bit wearing.”
Turning his attentions to the remaining options, McLaren looked like a good fit to Ricciardo. By this stage, he knew he wasn’t going to get as competitive a car as he had been in for the past few years, but even so, recent form was hard to ignore.
“McLaren, as a group – I had a couple of meetings with them – and I thought they were really cool people,” he says. “Definitely as personnel I like them a lot. Not that I don’t like Red Bull or anyone else, but I had a really positive vibe with them. But obviously, they’ll admit it, they’re just not there yet, and it just seemed probably a bit too optimistic to go there at that point. So that kind of eliminated them.
“Then Renault we were kind of talking to a bit, and eventually it just kind of clicked for me and I was like ‘Alright, so it’s a works team, progress they’ve made is good, it’s two years and a solid deal’.
“I won’t lie, having Nico as a teammate is by no means a bad thing. I liked that idea. I’ve always rated him because I raced him as a junior and he was winning everything, basically, and I think his work with the team and experience in racing generally could help the team.
“I know he’s super-motivated because he has one statistic that not many people want, and that’s the podium-less one. Everyone knows he’s good enough for it. So he’s going to be motivated, me coming to the team is going to add motivation for him, but I think it can boost us and fast-track the progress.
“It just seemed like the right fit, and I was like ‘You know what? That’s it’. It got to that point as well where what I really felt I just need a change, and just to break the routine, really.
“It sounds weird, and people are like ‘How can F1 become boring or a routine?’, but I think it’s like everything. I’ve always been a kid who at school was jumping around and I was never really satisfied with what I was doing, I always wanted to do something else. I guess it got to a point now, being with the same team and the same people, I was like ‘Alright, I need something else now’. I get a bit antsy, I guess!”
Even now, the common view is that Ricciardo faces a major challenge to return to winning ways over the coming two seasons, based on Renault’s performance deficit to the top three teams in 2018. But drivers are human beings, and the seven-time grand prix winner admits his new workplace was chosen with 50% of his focus on performance, and 50% on a personal lifestyle decision.
“I think if it was completely personal then McLaren would have been as attractive as anyone,” Ricciardo says. “But there was still obviously a big chunk of performance there.
“The presentation and everything that Renault put forward, it seemed… We all know they’ve still got work to do with chassis and engine, but what they showed me, what they’ve done the last two years, when they put it on paper it all added up, and their trajectory seems realistic if that makes sense.
“It just seemed like it could work.”

Part 1 Chapter 1
7 months ago 20/5/2018 21:30(Hong Kong Time
Outside the Theatre in the Western Kowloon District, Hong Kong
Flames were everywhere.
‘Let me go! She’s inside!’
Kyle cried out loud helplessly. Great fire had engulfed the entire theatre. His fiancee was being tortured in that purgatory.
'Damn Kyle, it’s 1300 °C inside. No one can go inside! You’re just a man, not a superman. You won’t save anyone even if you’re in it!’ A firefighter and a few cops were barring the deranged Kyle from running towards the fire scene. He had once met this detective before.
It was sizzlingly hot. The fire at the theatre had further heated up the temperature. It had so much vigor that it seemed it would never stop burning. The firefighting squad had been trying their utmost to contain the flames. Three helicopters had been dispatched to drop fire retardant over them, and around a dozen of firefighting trucks had been spraying the firefighting foam. The ground near the theatre subsided soon after the explosion, so the firefighters could only plod on it.
Meanwhile a very nasty smell permeated in the air. Many people at the scene recognized it as the mixed smell of burnt bodies.
The analysis from the government’s fire and explosion experts indicated no one could stay alive inside. Actually all firefighters had been forbidden from getting inside to save anyone as the flames were too hot for their fireproof gear to withstand.
‘Just leave me alone!’ Kyle was on the verge of mental collapse. He was like an injured beast trying to break away from its chains. Out of nowhere, a short, fat man punched him hard in the face. ‘Wake up!’
It was his boss Benny, a senior detective. The sweating man was wearing a casual tee and jeans. He had just hastily arrived. While gasping for air, he rebuked him,‘You bastard, just from your text I know you’ll get yourself into trouble!’ He was Kyle’s senior classmate in the university campus, and joined the police six years earlier than him. He had brought him to an alumni gathering, where he and Helen first met, but before he was transferred to Tsim Sha Tsui police station they had never been co-workers.
‘My fiancée’s inside. Just let me in!’
‘Even the firefighters don’t have the guts to walk inside! Don’t kill yourself for it!. You’re a detective!’
The phrase ‘detective' brought him back to his senses: Both his father and uncle were cops, and Benny encouraged him to join the Police Force when he had just graduated. After three years of hard work, he finally got in and had never planned any alternative careers. He had been quite submissive to what the fate had in store for him - Though there were strong sense of hierarchy, terrible scandals and complicated politics within the Force, he had never doubted this profession’s missions: maintaining law and order, detecting and crushing crimes, protecting lives and properties of the civilians…….All he wanted to do was to be a good cop, but he never imagined that one day it stood in his way of saving his lover.
Only an hour and a half ago, he just said goodbye to her, and they just shared a light kiss and nothing else. Though they had been engaged, they were too preoccupied with work for any intimacy.
She must have been burnt into ashes, like the fellow audience and theatre crew.
Why haven’t I hugged her at all?
His happiness had gone. Long distance love was grueling. She finally came to Hong Kong to get engaged with him, but only after enjoying a short time as the engaged couple, death separated them.
‘The seniors determined it as the first terrorist attack Hong Kong had ever had. We can only arrest those bastards responsible for the crime and bring them to court. That’s how you should avenge for Helen.’ Benny tried to calm him down. ‘You’re not in a good shape at all. We’ve still got a lot to do. You’re not in a good shape, so you’d better return home first. Report here at 6 tomorrow morning.’ Kyle was devastated. He had no mood to reply to him. He just kneeled on the ground and held his head. Benny then ordered two colleagues who had just arrived at the scene to bring him home.
**
Kyle was off duty on that day. He had just been transferred to the Crime Investigation Department at Tsim Sha Tsui Police Station.
He was celebrating his fourth year in the police with his fiancée Helen Lee. Before entering the police training camp he met Helen in alumni party, where she approached him first with a pick-up line ‘It’s been a long time.’ Kyle had no impression of her, but they soon fell in love. At that time he learnt she was a Hongkonger born in the States, and she had a nice Chinese name Lee Hoi Lun. As a buyer of a major international auction house, she mainly searched for artworks in every corner of the world, but he must be based in Hong Kong. Hence they only saw each other when they had long holidays or Helen happened to stop in Hong Kong for a while. Later Helen quitted the job, came to Hong Kong and joined a gallery in Central as its manager, as she hoped to meet Kyle’s parents and get engaged with him. Their relationship finally became more stable.
Helen then took Kyle’s ride to the newly built theatre in West Kowloon after dinner. It would have an opening ceremony that evening. The construction progress of the West Kowloon Cultural District had been lagging behind for many years, so the theatre’s opening seemed to bring in some fresh air to the cultural institution. Its management invited the best theatre crew in Asia to perform The Lady of the Camellias . As it was during the Le French May, the annual arts festival organized by the Consulate General of France to promote French art and culture in Hong Kong, the ambitious institution arranged the Chinese-English-French trilingual interpretation service for the audience, and invited the French Minister of Culture and the French Consul-General to speak at the ceremony. Helen’s current boss was a renowned French painter, so he also received an invitation. Though she had zero interest in drama, she still had to attend the opening ceremony and enjoy the drama with him as his assistant and partner.
The traffic was smooth between Jordan and Tsim Sha Tsui. Helen made great use of her time to tidy her make-up during the ride. Her brown curly hair was a good fit for her oval pale face. Her pretty honey brown eyes naturally seemed to sparkle like stars, and with her gifted perfect facial features she only needed few cosmetics to make herself look stunning. Wearing elegant high-heels, she was in a short white dress and black suit jacket, which somehow made her look taller.
‘Kyle, how do I look now?’ After blushing her mouth with a pink lipstick, she asked her with a smile. Kyle had been very used to her beauty, so he only commented, ‘Pretty as ever.’ He still had to concentrate on driving his Honda.
‘So far you’ve only answered “Good.” “Pretty enough.” “Very pretty.”’ Helen could not help but remark with a bit sarcasm. ‘No wonder you had never dated a girl before.’ Kyle was never a ladies’ man. Though he had a quite clean-cut face, it was still not popular with women. And his rather straightforward character was not everyone’s favorite. An average young woman may find him to be a tough nut to crack. He was not attentive to his outlook - His daily outfit only consisted of casual tees, jeans and sneakers, and had a jarhead haircut. The outsiders usually only perceived him as an ordinary thirty-year-old Asian man.
‘That’s why you love me.’ Kyle was too familiar with her humor. He had learnt to flirt with her. ‘Actually, only engagement is not enough. Let’s get married, honey.’
‘Ha, I can’t believe a man proposes to a woman like that! Where’s the ring?’ Helen just laughed directly, without any attempt to hide it. She was only honest in front of this honest man.
‘Wait, you’ve got the engagement ring. I think it counts.’ ‘Of course not, they are only silver rings. The wedding ring must be like the diamond ring worn by my classmates.’ They sparred with each other with witty words, and arrived at the theatre without sensing time had passed.
The theatre looked futuristic with its irregular round shaped silver building. As two high-ranking French officials were arriving soon, the police had tightened the security. Although Kyle was a detective, before he drove to the parking lot, he still had to stop his vehicle for his colleagues’ strict security check. After he parked his car, Helen kissed him lightly and whispered, ‘I’m anticipating your ring, my dear.’
‘I’ll be well-prepared next time.’ Kyle promised in earnest. Helen gave him a sweet smile in return, and got out of his car. ‘See you.’ Those were the last words she left behind.
Kyle watched his fiancée walking towards the theatre. He always sensed there was something enigmatic about her, but he could not figure out why.
**
When Helen saw Kyle had driven away, she continued to head towards the theatre, but her eyes grew cold.
Her boss had just arrived in front of Helen in haste, and he looked very tense.
‘Actually will it go wrong?’ He did not bother to greet her, but only expressed his worries in panic. Helen apparently scorned his cowardice. She just reminded him coldly, ‘You’re my boss now. Please act like one. Nothing else is your business.’
The painter knew that she still kept her cool 15 minutes before the operation began, so he became a bit calmer as well. He couldn’t help but imagine what exactly the young lady had been through before turning into such a cold, capricious beauty.
In the gallery, he was her nominal boss, but in that organization, she was the director, and he was just a small potato.
**
Kyle was on his way home. He recalled he still had to prepare at home for a meeting with a prosecution attorney on a homicide report.
Right at the instant, he sensed the earth shaking. It was from the West Kowloon District.
The news app on his iPhone reported the theatre there had exploded.
No…...You can’t die!
He immediately rerouted his car back to the theatre. When he finally reached the exit of the tunnel, he only saw the faraway theatre had been consumed by flames. All traffic was jammed. The alarming sirens of the firefighting trucks, ambulances and police cars had been relentlessly ringing. All off-duty members of the Tsim Sha Tsui police station had received the emergency return-to-duty order. He texted his boss, ‘I’ll save Helen.’
He could never turn back the clock.

2020 Genesis G70 2.0T Manual Test Drive: A Dissatisfying End to a Species
Tumblr media
It always feels a bit odd to drive a dead car walking—a new car that's still available on dealer lots, but just recently received its official execution date from the automaker. It's different from dealing with a special edition; the very core of a limited run is its ephemerality. But the end of a bloodline whether sudden or scheduled feels melancholic, even if the car isn't that great.
As you probably guessed, the last time this happened to me was during a stint test driving the 2020 Genesis G70 2.0T with the six-speed manual transmission. While spraying the bright blue four-door down at a car wash ahead of a photo shoot, I received a text from a coworker informing me of the three-pedal G70's demise after the 2021 model year, bringing the curtain down on the enthusiast-focused version of the compact executive four-door after just three model years.
2020 Genesis G70 2.0T: Show Me The Money Even to one of the few who did snag a six-speed G70 before the axe came down, this news should hardly come as a shock. Genesis sold fewer than 12,000 G70s in 2019, and has sold only 5,275 units as of July 2020, illustrating just how small a slice of the segment the G70 managed to carve, especially when compared to the 47,827 3 Series models BMW sold in 2019—and those numbers are for all G70s (and 3 Series variants), not just those bought with a manual transmission.
But BMW isn't selling manuals in this segment, either—the German automaker nixed the manual 3 Series from its lineup with the introduction of the G20-generation for 2019. If BMW can't justify a manual 3 Series due to disappointing sales, what do you reckon the take rate is for the G70 with the 6MT?
In all likelihood, the figures are abysmal. Now, if you want to pick up a new premium sedan with three-pedals, your options are…well, shoot. There aren't any more options. Turns out, the G70 was the last to the party, and the last to leave. Don't think you can find shelter in the warm embrace of a well-equipped six-speed Honda Accord either; production of the shift-it-yourself Accord halted back in December of last year, and no one noticed until Honda publicly announced the death knell for the manual Accord, along with the demise of the Civic Coupe and cheeky Fit.
So, not only was I driving a zombie car, but it was the last gasp of an endangered species that used to be multitudes. At least it went out with a bang, right? Surely there's consolation in the fact I could declare the six-speed G70 criminally underrated and press most of the blame on the shoulders of a driving public more interested in their phones than the journey.
2020 Genesis G70 2.0T: Mixed Signals It is with a heavy heart I report the manual-equipped, rear-wheel drive sports sedan winks out with peaky power, a deceptively numb clutch, rev hang, and a dull shifter. Had I not received news of the stick-shift G70's demise, my advice to interested parties is that they don't bother; just pick up the 2.0T with the mostly inoffensive, though only average eight-speed automatic transmission, or make the financial jump to the potent 3.3-liter twin-turbo V-6 G70 3.3T, which is—of course—only available with an automatic transmission.
Before we dive into what makes the six-speed G70 disappointing, let's take a second to appreciate the G70's merits outside of the rubbery stick protruding from the center console, lest you think the car is simply a sum of its parts. As we've discovered with every other configuration of the G70, Genesis developed quite the sports sedan here, with excellent balance and overtly handsome aesthetics that would be a welcome sight coming from any brand. It's well designed, well equipped, comfortable  both to drive and to ride in, and if you spring for the 3.3-liter twin-turbo V-6, a potent contender for the pedestal spot occupied by the BMW 340i and Audi S4.
Overall, it's a tidy car that's a valid alternative to anything else in the ultra-competitive luxury compact executive sedan segment. We liked the G70 when it launched for 2018, and I'm sure we're going to have plenty to praise when the refresh arrives in 2022. But by then, the G70 will have shed the one significant feature that set it apart from the crowd, and will be left as a less funky, more driver-oriented complement to the Lexus IS and, perhaps, the upcoming Acura TLX.
2020 Genesis G70 2.0T: What To Expect For now, you've got one-and-a-half model years to pick up the 2.0T with three pedals, if you so desire. The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder is rated at a stout 252 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, conceivably compelling figures for something with both a manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. Even Genesis realizes this should be alluring for an enthusiast, so checking the box for the stick also forcibly checks the box for the G70's Sport trim, adding a limited slip differential, Brembo brakes, and summer tires to the mix.
This is all excellent news, right up until you take it out for your first on-ramp blast. I don't know how Genesis managed to make 252 horsepower and 260 pound-feet feel like a nice, round 200 in each category, but based on my test drive, it feels significantly down on torque from a dig. Instrumented testing from our buds over at Motor Trend revealed the G70 2.0T with the six-speed manual transmission takes an astounding 7.2 seconds from 0-60 mph. I'm not usually one to call something that can do the deed in less than 8.5 seconds "slow," but essentially the premium leaders in the segment—BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz—typically handle that scramble in less than six seconds.
2020 Genesis G70 2.0T: Slower Than Expected There's significant turbo lag from the 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and when the impeller does get with the program, it's not revelatory or thrilling; even during full-throttle pulls, it never feels anything short of a steady, relatively slow climb. According to Genesis, peak power arrives at 6,200 rpm—no surprise there—but all 260 pound-feet are apparently on tap from 1,400 rpm through 4,000 rpm. Could have fooled me—there isn't much happening until the needle swings to the middle of the tach.
It's not as if it's much fun poking the engine through the range, either. The manual G70 has obnoxiously dull initial throttle tip-in, which, when combined with a vague clutch and apparent lack of low-down torque, leads to more-than-should-be-necessary clutch slip, herky-jerky starts, outright stalls, or a combination of all three.
Of course, operator error is always a potential part of the equation, but a quick seat-swap with a coworker confirmed at least the throttle tuning wasn't my imagination. Things get a little better in the Sport driving mode, but not so much that it fixes the dead zone entirely. Meanwhile, the shifter feels like something from a non-performance Elantra, which is not to say it's egregiously cheap or clumsy, but it doesn't really match the G70's premium/luxury intentions, especially with somewhat rubbery engagement and a plastic-topped knob.
Again, this hurts to write. I like the Genesis G70 a great deal, especially in 3.3T form. It's a fantastic little sports sedan for the money, and if I were in the market for a professional-appearing daily commuter, it would be near the top of the list. It's just such a shame the less-than-stellar stickshift G70 is the one to shut the door on the manual rear-wheel drive sport sedan species in the U.S.
2020 Genesis G70 2.0T Sport Manual Fast Facts The last rear-wheel drive premium sports sedan offered with a stick in the U.S. To be discontinued after 2021 model year Powerful and torquey on paper, but doesn't feel like it on the road A great car let down by a not-great manual transmission แทงบอลออนไลน์

Timesheets tight on Day 2 of testing in Valencia
Maverick Viñales (Yamaha Factory Racing) got his 2019 preseason off to the perfect start after he topped both days at the Valencia Test, setting the quickest time of 1:30.757 to better second place Ducati Team’s Andrea Dovizioso by 0.133 and reigning Champion Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) by 0.154 as the premier class riders completed a busy day of testing in Valencia; the rain staying away on Wednesday.
For Viñales and teammate Valentino Rossi – who ended the test eighth fastest – another new spec of engine was available for them to test, after Tuesday saw them test the first spec of the 2019 Yamaha engine. Ending the test top can only be a good sign for the Spaniard, who managed to complete 57 laps on Day 2, setting his quickest time on his 50th lap as we saw a mini time attack occur during the afternoon. Viñales said it will now be important to continue testing in Jerez, feeling like they’ve made good progress but needing more time on the new one after another slightly later start on Day 2 due to a damp track. For nine-time World Champion Rossi, meanwhile, a good haul of 63 laps were set as the Italian ended the day 0.614 off his teammate.
VR46 Academy rider and YZR-M1 rookie Franco Morbidelli (Petronas Yamaha SRT), meanwhile, did 57 laps as he continues to adjust from Honda to Yamaha – but that adjusting doesn’t seem to be taking the 2017 Moto2™ Champion long. Interestingly, Morbidelli was also riding with a new spec engine to finish Day 2 just 0.217 off Viñales, but he was on a 2017 chassis. Carbon forks were also used by Morbidelli, while rookie teammate Fabio Quartararo got a valuable 63 laps (101 in total) under his belt as he impressed on his premier class debut – just 1.334 separated the Frenchman from the fastest time set.
For Marquez and teammate Jorge Lorenzo, the ‘second version’ 2019 bike was used. This bike isn’t the full 2019 version, but a combination of parts including the chassis, engine, a Ducati-esque tank modification on Lorenzo’s bike, aero packages, a new air intake, new suspension and a relocated steering damper. Honda have different combinations of everything and Marquez said he was concentrating on the engine, too. Plenty of laps were done by both multiple World Champions – neither of whom are at full power with some injury struggles – on a productive day, with Marquez ending P3 after 53 laps, with Lorenzo completing 46 laps – 0.827 off the top for the ‘Spartan’. The number 93 had this to say: “It’s interesting because Lorenzo already tried the new bike. Step by step. The Honda is a difficult bike in the first days but he will arrive soon.”
In the Ducati garage, 57 laps were completed by Dovizioso – and the second fastest time – after a more productive day for the Italian. The number 04 and teammate Danilo Petrucci were on Desmosedicis that were very close to being 2019 specs, the latter ending the day fifth fastest after 60 laps – 0.202 from top spot. Meanwhile, test rider Michele Pirro – who crashed at Turn 2 – was on the full spec 2019 machine, with Jack Miller (Alma Pramac Racing) on board a ‘first step’ 2019 bike, according to Team Manager Davide Tardozzi. Dovizioso commented he’d found something “interesting” that will now be explored further at Jerez.
It was another good day for 2018 Moto2™ World Champion Francesco Bagnaia, who – also according to Tardozzi – was on an early 2018 spec Ducati. The rookie was able to lap 49 times on Day 2 to bring his overall tally up to 87 as he ends the test just 0.648 off the fastest time. Fellow Desmosedici rider Tito Rabat (Reale Avintia Racing) returned to MotoGP™ action at the Valencia Test, and impressed immensely. Still nowhere near 100% fit, the Spaniard completed 59 laps on his GP18 on Day 2 – in addition to his 36 on Day 1 – to finish just over a second off pacesetter Viñales.
Elsewhere, some big news from the test over at Team Suzuki Ecstar was the new engine that Alex Rins was testing on Wednesday. The Spaniard was able to register 69 laps and set the seventh fastest time of the test, 0.497 from Viñales. And what about teammate Joan Mir? Well, the rookie continued his very solid debut to finish 0.957 off P1 after getting 56 laps done. Team Manager Davide Brivio says the engine will also be a key focus in Jerez, before important decisions are made going into the winter break.
At KTM, it was a more difficult second day for Johann Zarco (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) as he crashed twice on Day 2 trying to find the limit, ending the two-day test 1.752 off Viñales’ time. 50 laps were completed by the Frenchman, who was again the first rider to head out after the Circuit Ricardo Tormo took a while to dry in the morning. Teammate Pol Espargaro ended 0.871 from Viñales in P13, 47 laps fulfilled for the Spaniard who had a new fairing to try – and was focusing on electronics, as he’d reported on Day 1. “By the end, we wanted to do a fast lap time because it’s what people see, but we had some problems with that. Anyway, I think we’ve done a good job. We tried many things on the bike. All the staff are happy and have still a lot of things to try. We’ll continue in Jerez!”
There was a late crash for Hafizh Syahrin (Red Bull KTM Tech 3) at Turn 10 after the Malaysian continued his adaptation to a new machine, with both he and teammate Miguel Oliveira riding 2019 RC16 machines. The Portuguese rider completed 46 laps on Day 2 – 79 in total – to finish 3.041 from the top, shaving over a second off his fastest time from Day 1.
With Andrea Iannone (Aprilia Racing Team Gresini) crashing twice and test rider Bradley Smith crashing once, it was also a difficult day for the new Noale factory riders, although Iannone shrugged off his two crashes as a natural consequence of finding the limit on a new bike. Teammate Aleix Espargaro was on engine testing duty and trying chassis updates, and a P10 finish and 55 laps completed signalled a solid day’s work as the Spaniard ended the two days 0.643 off the pace. Iannone was able to get 32 laps done, with Smith putting in the work to get 58 circulations complete.
That’s a wrap from Valencia now, but there’s more action coming before the winter break! Make sure to keep up to date from the Jerez Test on the 28th and 29th November.

How About a $7,500 Federal Subsidy to Bring Back the Stick Shift?
Electric vehicles now outsell cars with manual transmissions by almost two to one. This piece of information from JD Power underscores what enthusiasts hate to acknowledge: The manual gearbox is slower to shift, doesn’t save gas, and sometimes burns more gas than a car with an automatic transmission or a double-clutch automated mechanical gearbox that has no clutch pedal.
This change was underscored most recently with the unveiling of the most iconic American sports car, the Chevrolet Corvette. It arrives next year with only an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic connecting the engine and the rear wheels. That’s a double blow to the Corvette traditionalist, who now has to cope with an engine mounted behind the driver.
VW GTI: Heel-and-toe, clutch, rev the engine, downshift third to second, be a hero on a winding road. Or these days, flick the paddle shifter on the left side of the steering wheel to drop down a gear and automatically rev-match the engine and drive wheels.
The reasons for moving from stick shift to automatic are many. The main one is convenience. It’s fun to shift gears by pressing a clutch pedal and rowing the console lever on a twisty country road. It’s not so much fun in rush hour traffic when you have to use the clutch 150 times shifting to neutral while covering the last two miles to New York City’s Lincoln Tunnel (I counted) at rush hour. More Americans are moving to urban areas where there’s more stop-and-go traffic.
Automatic transmissions are not significantly less reliable, unlike a generation ago. They typically match a manual transmission on fuel economy. Often they get better economy. Consider the 2019 Honda Fit:
CVT (continuously variable transmission), 33 mpg city, 40 mpg highway, 36 mpg combined
Automatic transmission, 31/36/33
6-speed manual, 29/36/31
If the manual gets worse fuel economy, that hurts the automaker’s overall CAFE rating, or corporate average fuel economy.
Everyone knows a diehard manual-transmission fanatic with time on his hands and a willingness to tell you how much better mileage he gets with the manual. It’s all anecdotal.
Automatics shift faster than the average driver and often faster than a skilled race driver. That typically means faster acceleration. Not in all cases.
If the car goes away from a manual transmission and if the automaker chooses to put the gear selector on the steering wheel, or dashboard, or even as a small knob on the console, that leaves room for the important things in life (to the average driver and passenger): cupholders, USB jacks, slots and cubbyholes for phones, sunglasses, keys and the other crap we carry with us.
By 2018, sales of electric vehicles in the US matched sales of cars with manual transmissions.
Research by JD Power shows the crossover point was in 2018. Manual-gearbox cars slipped from 1.8 percent of sales to 1.6 percent. Battery electric vehicles (BEVs), which have been on the market for about a decade, jumped from 0.3 percent share in 2015 to 1.8 percent in 2019 and to 1.9 percent for 2019 year-to-date. This is for retail sales only; Power says including fleet sales (which are even more heavily automatics) skews what the individual buyer does.
Power continually sifts data to find trends for its customers and for conferences it hosts, such as last month’s inaugural Auto Revolution confab in Las Vegas targeting analysts and demographers as well as car dealers and component suppliers.
If you want a stick shift car, now’s the time to buy. Car and Driver counted 40 cars with manual transmissions as of the beginning of the year, including the outgoing Corvette. There are also about a dozen crossovers and SUVs with manual transmissions, CD says. Most are smaller vehicles, from Fiat, Honda, Jeep, Mitsubishi, and Subaru.
If you want to be among people who value manual gearboxes, leave the country. Manuals elsewhere account for more than four in 10 sales.
And in the US, a manual gearbox keeps your car out of the hands of joyrides and younger thieves. A car with a clutch is its own millennial anti-theft device.

How to Get to El Nido from – Manila, San Vicente, Coron, or Puerto Princesa
El Nido is one of the most popular destinations in Palawan because of its amazing underwater treasures and white-sand beaches. However, unlike Coron, Puerto Princesa, and San Vicente where several airline companies offer daily flights, there is only one flight that goes directly to El Nido and it is pretty expensive.
In this article, we will tackle the different and best ways on how to get to El Nido from Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
How to Get Directly to El Nido from Manila or Ninoy Aquino International Airport?
Air Swift is the only airline that flies directly to El Nido, Palawan from Manila. Their planes land directly at Lio Airport which is about 4 kilometers from midtown. Air Swift is the charter company of El Nido Resorts and definitely the fastest and easiest (but expensive) way to get to El Nido.
How to Get to El Nido from San Vicente?
Another (not prominent) option to get to El Nido is by taking a flight bound for San Vicente Airport from either Manila or Clark. San Vicente Airport was inaugurated in May 2018. Philippine Airlines (PAL Express) offers trips from Clark Airport to San Vicente, with an estimated time of 1 hour and 40 mins. Skyjet Airlines on another hand offers trips from Manila to San Vicente; travel time is one hour.
From San Vicente, El Nido is around 4 hours away by land travel.
How to Get to El Nido from Coron?
If you want to see another tropical paradise of Palawan before heading to El Nido, you can opt to fly to Busuanga first and explore Coron, Palawan. Travel time is only one hour. From Coron Port, you can take a 4-6 ferry ride bound for El Nido Ferry terminal. Ferry ride costs around ₱1,300-₱1,700 per way.
Discounted activities to do in Coron, Palawan

How to Get to El Nido from Puerto Princesa, Palawan?
The most popular way to get to El Nido, Palawan is by taking a plane ride from Manila to Puerto Princesa and then riding a van or a bus from Puerto Princesa to El Nido. The two main companies operating daily flights between Manila and Puerto Princesa are Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines. You may ask our travel agency partner, Sole Adventours for the cheapest flights available on your preferred dates.
El Nido is just 230 kilometers away from Puerto Princesa, but it can take 5 to 9 hours of land travel because of the road condition. The bus usually takes longer because of multiple stopovers.
See the table below:
Mode of Transportation Travel Time Price Van 5 to 6 hours  ₱500 to ₱700 Bus 6 to 9 hours  ₱380 (non-aircon) to ₱480 (aircon) Private Car Around 5 hours ₱2000 to ₱3500 (daily rate)
A.) By Van – it is not difficult to look for a van ride from Puerto Princesa Airport to El Nido as El Nido van drivers offering a ride will start swarming around you the moment you step out the airport.
Transportation by van means you will be joining other passengers, so you have to be aware that, most of the time, the van company will wait until the van is full before leaving. Sometimes, you may even have to wait a few hours (basically, until the next flight has arrived). Another thing to consider is that van companies tend to fit a maximum of 13-14 people into one van, sometimes adding removable extra seats. Expect to be uncomfortable throughout the trip especially if you are a 6-foot-tall human being and stuck in the middle or in the last seat rows because you won’t have much leg room.
Some van shuttle companies offer pick-up from Puerto Princesa hotels to El Nido. This is a very convenient option especially if you plan to stay a day or two in Puerto Princesa to do Underground River Tour or Honda Bay Tour.
There is a trip leaving every hour. Earliest trip leaves at 6AM and the last trip is at 6PM. Our travel Partner Sole Adventours offer a one-way van transfer for ₱700 per person. You may message them here.
Book your DISCOUNTED van transfer below:
Klook.com(function(d, sc, u) { var s = d.createElement(sc), p = d.getElementsByTagName(sc)[0]; s.type = 'text/javascript'; s.async = true; s.src = u; p.parentNode.insertBefore(s,p); })(document, 'script', '//cdn.klook.com/affiliate_web/s/dist/desktop/affiliate_base_v3.1.js')
B.) By Bus – Roro Bus and Cherry Bus companies offer daily trips to E Nido from San Jose Bus Terminal. (Please refer to the table above for the rates). San Jose Bus Terminal is 7 kilometers away from the airport, which is 10 to 20 minutes tricycle ride that costs around ₱100. There are buses going to El Nido every one or two hours during the day. The earliest trip is at 4AM and the last trip is at 10PM.
Whether you take a van or a bus, the journey will end in Corong-Corong Bus Terminal, which is just a few minutes away from El Nido town proper. We recommend that you ride a tricycle to your hotel. During the day, the normal price is ₱15 per person; at night, the minimum rate goes up to ₱50 per person.
C.) By Private Car – If you’re traveling as a group, we recommend that you rent a private car for convenience. The rate is around ₱2000 to ₱3500 per day.
So that’s it. Welcome to El Nido! You can now get ready for your island hopping tours. Check and book discounted rates of popular El Nido activities below:
Klook.com(function(d, sc, u) { var s = d.createElement(sc), p = d.getElementsByTagName(sc)[0]; s.type = 'text/javascript'; s.async = true; s.src = u; p.parentNode.insertBefore(s,p); })(document, 'script', '//cdn.klook.com/affiliate_web/s/dist/desktop/affiliate_base_v3.1.js')
Travel Tips:
If you decide to travel by bus, do the evening trip as it usually takes only around 5-6 hours due to lesser stopovers as compared to 8-9 hours during the daytime.
If you are coming from another flight from outside the country and planning to fly to El Nido, San Vicente, or Puerto Princesa directly, give yourself a time allowance of at least 3 hours between your arrival and your next flight, so you’ll have enough time to go from one terminal to another. Take note that the traffic jams in Metro Manila are extensive.

2021 Honda Ridgeline Exterior, Interior, Release Date, Price
New Post has been published on https://www.2020hondarumors.com/2021-honda-ridgeline-exterior-interior-release-date-price/
2021 Honda Ridgeline Exterior, Interior, Release Date, Price
2021 Honda Ridgeline Exterior, Interior, Release Date, Price – The Ridgeline is necessarily a sports energy truck (SUT) produced by Honda, and yes it is often placed in the way of life pickup classification, which fits it high-quality. The Ridgeline is 1 of only two trucks manufactured by the Japanese automaker. The 2nd one is the Honda Actymini-truck. The acceptance that the Ridgeline has is mainly because of what it offers to the purchasers, and others things are unibody shape, a transverse-positioned engine, a number of-wheel impartial suspension, smooth cabin ground, flat truck mattress, twin-motion tailgate, an In-Mattress Trunk, all-time drive, and a lot, a lot more than hides beneath its pores and skin. So let’s find out more about new 2021 Honda Ridgeline.
2021 Honda Ridgeline Exterior
When you have a look at the exterior of the 2021 Honda Ridgeline, it may be very easily wrongly diagnosed for one of the Toyota or Ford pickups, but only if you squint hard. It genuinely can vary a lot readily available cars, plus it starts from the front side lamps which are designed differently as opposed to those on Ford and Toyota, then there is also a Honda distinctive grille and Guided front lights, which coupled with a large windshield is sufficient to present superb visibility. Each one of these pieces can get a little update in the new MY, and this will make the 2021 Honda Ridgeline all the more desirable than its precursor. Because its design has proven on its own thus far, we all do not count on severe changes throughout. It will be an easy refresh with a nip and tuck in some places. Update entry and mild rear clusters with modifications to the entrance and rear fender will be adequate in the meantime.
2021 Honda Ridgeline Exterior
2021 Honda Ridgeline Interior
The 2021 Honda Ridgeline’s interior will stay vast and comfortable as this has been, but as the prior model experienced a little bit of situation on the back seat, we specific desire that Honda will type it out. The again of the Ridgeline is not tiny or confined, usually do not get us improper, it is just the rear counter is not exclusively made for use on an extended journey. As this is categorised as a lifestyle pickup this needs to be taken care of, and speedy. As significantly as the remainder of the interior is considered, assume it to be standard Honda, high-end with a bunch of efficiencies.
2021 Honda Ridgeline Engine
The Ridgeline will unquestionably bring the newest from the company’s infotainment as well as technician features, and we also suppose that some changes in the link and knobs format and design may well somewhat alter, accordingly. The accessibility of gear inside and the level of quality of resources will, of course, depend upon the cut you pick, but usually, do not get worried, people that typically do not select the best cut will never be unhappy.
2021 Honda Ridgeline Engine
Now the most intriguing issue, the engine. The secondly gen of Ridgeline sports a 3.5 L V6 which is good for 280 HP and 262 lb-ft of torque which are provided to entry or all rims above the half a dozen-speed automatic transmission. This engine wasn’t that terrible, but with its energy economy rankings, which are logically rather poor (it is worse yet than Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon) with 19 MPG city, 26 freeway, and 22 merged while in FWD design, Honda has to alter anything. And change they may. Concerning some speculations, Honda is making yet another device for the 2021 Honda Ridgeline, and this will be a hybrid 1. In respect to the same predictions, Honda will equip the 2021 Honda Ridgeline with the 3.0 Lt V6 device fastened to a particular seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and a several-motor hybrid system.
2021 Honda Ridgeline Concept
2021 Honda Ridgeline Release Date And Price
As way as release date and price are viewed as, we believe that the kept up to date pickup will hold on to the very same, or in the vicinity of the same price label, but its Hybrid selection will bring up the sticker price for $8.000 to $10.000. That for some could be a significant hit up, however, for much better gasoline economy it can be rewarding. As for the release date, we believe that the expose of the 2021 Honda Ridgeline might be a place close to the 2018 and the profits may begin as correctly. The hybrid choice will arrive a little afterwards possibly sometime in the 1st half of 2019.

Discounts on Maruti Suzuki cars, SUVs in February 2019
While Maruti Suzuki’s cars still topped the sales charts, the brand reported only a 0.2 percent growth in January 2019. So in a bid to improve sales this month, Maruti Suzuki Arena dealerships across the country are offering benefits ranging from Rs 13,000 to Rs 63,000, depending on the model.
Maruti Suzuki Alto 800
Save up to Rs 53,000 Maruti Suzuki’s entry-level hatchback, the Alto 800, is being offered with benefits of up to Rs 53,000 for the standard petrol-powered models. Variants equipped with factory-fit CNG kits come with marginally lower discounts of up to Rs 43,000. An affordable and efficient hatchback, the Alto 800 is now a bit dated compared to newer rivals like the Renault Kwid and Datsun Redigo, but still outsells them.
Maruti Suzuki Alto K10
Save up to Rs 58,000 The Alto 800’s more powerful sibling, the Alto K10, not only gets a larger motor but also the option of an AMT gearbox. Interestingly, it’s this AMT variant that has the most lucrative discounts of up to Rs 58,000. In comparison, the standard petrol-manual model is offered with benefits of up to Rs 53,000, while the CNG model can be had with discounts of up to Rs 48,000. The peppy little city runabout is quite easy to drive but is let down by a cramped cabin area.
Maruti Suzuki Celerio
Save up to Rs 63,000 The trend on higher discounts on AMTs continues with the Celerio. The Hyundai Santro rival is offered with benefits of up to Rs 63,000 for the AMT variants, while the standard petrol and CNG models can be had with discounts of up to Rs 58,000 and Rs 48,000, respectively. The Celerio may not look particularly nice, but it is a practical hatchback that shares its smooth petrol motor with the Alto K10 and Wagon R.
Maruti Suzuki Celerio X
Save up to Rs 53,000 Essentially a beefed-up Celerio, the Celerio X gets crossover styling cues to give it a unique look. Under the hood, the car runs the same mechanicals as the standard car including the AMT gearbox. As with the Celerio, the Celerio X AMT is offered with benefits of up to Rs 53,000, while the manual variants are offered with marginally lower discounts of up to Rs 48,000.
Maruti Suzuki Swift
Save up to Rs 43,000 Now into its third generation, the new Swift remains a strong seller for Maruti Suzuki. The rival to the Hyundai Grand i10 and Ford Figo comes with benefits of up to Rs 33,000 and Rs 43,000 for the petrol and diesel models, respectively. Even more practical and better equipped than the previous-gen model, the new Swift builds on an already successful formula.
Maruti Suzuki Dzire
Save up to Rs 58,000 The Swift’s compact sedan sibling sees benefits and discounts of up to Rs 58,000. While the Dzire has been on sale unchanged a little longer than some of its competition (like the second-gen Honda Amaze and the Ford Aspire facelift), it is still the highest-selling model in its segment and our pick of the compact sedans on sale in India.
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza
Save up to Rs 45,000 Maruti Suzuki’s largest selling UV, the Vitara Brezza compact SUV, comes with benefits of up to Rs 45,000. The spacious and practical model suffers slightly when it comes to equipment and powertrain when compared to competition like the Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport and the upcoming Mahindra XUV300.
Maruti Suzuki Omni
Save up to Rs 33,000 The ageing Omni is one of the models that Maruti Suzuki will soon discontinue as it does not meet, and will not be upgraded to meet, upcoming safety norms. In order to clear stocks of the MPV, Maruti Suzuki Arena dealers are offering significant benefits of up to Rs 33,000.
Maruti Suzuki Eeco
Save up to Rs 13,000 The Eeco’s USP is that it is the most affordable way to transport more than five people. The current model will be replaced by an all-new vehicle (scheduled to arrive in showrooms before the end of the year) that will meet the more stringent safety norms that'll come into effect in the coming months. Maruti has extended benefits of up to Rs 13,000 on the Eeco.
Disclaimer: Discounts vary from city to city. Please check with your local dealer for exact discounts, which may not match figures quoted here.

018 Honda HR-V Review – For Honda fans, the new 2018 Honda HR-V is without a doubt a favorite choice in the SUV segment. It is a master of versatility, and we can also expect more advanced features added to the new model. While it is a small car, buyers can rest assured that the car can accommodate adults just fine in the back or up front. You can also see that there is plenty of cargo space available. It also comes with the same technology offered by Honda Fit. One of those technologies is the magic seat. Check our review here and learn more about its features.
2018 Honda HR-V Release Date
What is New for 2018 Honda HR-V?
Well, the new 2018 Honda HR-V receives no significant changes but we can expect that the new model is better than its predecessor. One of the most impressive features is a technology called the magic seat. It is a feature which lets you lift and flip up the rear seat bottoms. So that you can create a cargo area from the floor to ceiling. What we can say is that the use of the magic seat is very helpful if you want to transport smaller items such as a bicycle or a flat TV. Another cool thing is that space is suitable for average-sized adults too.
2018 Honda HR-V Trim Levels and Features
Well, the 2018 Honda HR-V is the least expensive choice in Honda’s stable, but it has lots of features which make the car a favorite choice in 2018. The new Honda HR-V is available in three trim levels. These choices are EX-L NAVI, EX, and LX. All trim levels are powered by a 1.8-liter engine which can deliver 141 horsepower. The engine is paired with a CVT automatic or a six-speed manual transmission.
2018 Honda HR-V Concept
2018 Honda HR-V Engine
The LX comes with some standard features such as a height-adjustable driver seat, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, and also 17-inch wheels. You can also choose a better option such as the EX trim which adds heated mirrors, fog lights, automatic headlights, and heated front seats. The highest trim level is the EX-L NAVI which comes with some features such as a navigation system, leather upholstery, roof rails, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
2018 Honda HR-V Interior, Comfort, and Driving
The interior of the new Honda HR-V is one of the best things that we really like. In fact, the interior is more useful than other cars in the same class. It comes with a nifty rear seat which can fold, we are sure that you will be pleased with the amount of room.
2018 Honda HR-V Interior
2018 Honda HR-V Redesign
All controls are easy to reach, but we think that it should add the climate control buttons. It has one of the best ride qualities in its class. The only downside is that the seat comfort is mediocre. It comes with a powerful engine which should be more than enough when going around turns.
2018 Honda HR-V Release Date and Price
The new Honda HR-V ranges from $19,750 to $26,340 as it depends on the trim level that you choose. If you want to buy this car, you can expect that 2018 Honda HR-V will arrive in 2018.
2018 Honda HR-V Price and Review  018 Honda HR-V Review - For Honda fans, the new 2018 Honda HR-V is without a doubt a favorite choice in the SUV segment.

Watch Spotting During the 2018 Monterey Car Week
While Monterey Car Week is all about rarified four-wheeled wonders, it’s almost an equally impressive watch-spotting event. Some attendees have one watch they keep in the safe all year, only to break it out for the late-summer festivities. Next time you’re on the grass at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance or at one of the many other events during Car Week, keep an eye on the wrists—you might see something with a price tag to rival some of the cars. This year, we snapped some of our favorites, mostly on the wrists of friends and familiar faces we found amongst the champagne-sipping crowds.
TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 on My Wrist
The lovely folks at TAG Heuer lent me this fetching Carrera chrono for the week, giving me the chance to experience a modern Heuer for the first time. The Carrera Calibre 16 family isn’t new, first launched in this form back in 2005, but this heritage-inspired variant is. Unveiled earlier this year at Baselworld to celebrate the Carrera’s 55th anniversary, the watch features a dial inspired by both racing and common design elements found in the 1970s. To that end, the faux-aged lume and red/orange accents pop against the white subdials and chapter ring, contrasting well with a black ceramic bezel. —Conner Golden
TAG’s familiar Calibre 16 automatic movement returns 42 hours of power reserve and a date complication at three o’clock. The Calibre 16 is an evolution of the longstanding Valjoux 7750, so it should be reliable and low-maintenance.
If black isn’t your color, TAG also offers this watch in blue on steel bracelet as well. Prices start at $4,350 for the black on leather rally strap, and $4,500 for blue on steel bracelet.
1967 Eterna Super KonTiki
Unsurprisingly, interesting people often wear requisitely interesting watches. Case in point: Our friend Matthew Ivanhoe of The Cultivated Collector hit The Quail green wearing this excellent 1967 Eterna KonTiki, originally issued to the Israeli Defense Forces. More specifically, it was presented to the Shayetet 13, Israel’s elite special forces. Ivanhoe estimates only 150 were ever made, and less than half of those are thought to survive. —C.G.
Hurley Haywood’s Rolex Datejust
Haywood is proud to point out that while he presently wears it on a steel bracelet, the watch originally arrived as a gift from Rolex in the mid-’90s on a rubber strap. As he tells it, the then-president of Rolex rang him up after he spotted Haywood on the Le Mans podium wearing a cheap throwaway watch, having left all his good stuff at home for fear of theft. A short time later, this DateJust showed up at his house wearing a unique rubber strap, along with a few replacements. It spent so much time on the wrist, he wore through all the replacement straps. Unable to procure new ones, it’s now on the steel bracelet you see here. —C.G.
Stephan Winkelmann Apple Watch and 50th Anniversary Rolex Daytona
Automobile contributor and fellow watch dork Basem Wasef caught the Bugatti chief with a watch on both wrists. The Apple Watch isn’t noteworthy, but the 50th Anniversary Daytona on the opposing wrist is. To honor five decades of the legendary chrono, Rolex cut the case entirely from platinum, adding an ice-blue dial and dark brown Cerachrom ceramic bezel to round it out. —C.G.
Alain de Cadenet’s Omega Speedmaster
We don’t have the time (or the, ahem, space) to recount de Cadenet’s long, colorful career behind the wheel of some of the world’s greatest cars, but it’s safe to say his excellent Speedmaster was there for most of it. As he recounts in an interview with Revolution magazine, he purchased the watch—the same type made famous by NASA astronauts—in 1968 in Zurich during a trip to the Nurburgring, and he hasn’t worn much else since. —C.G.
Zenith of  Jim Heldmann, Polestar’s Vice President, Global Marketing and Brand Management
Zenith is such a sleeper brand, so it’s a good fit for Polestar, which is aiming for an understated, electrified vibe. The Zenith features an El Primero—first shown in 1969—heart that is regarded as one of the world’s best and most accurate watch movements.  Fun fact: For a long time, the El Primero was the movement inside the Rolex Daytona. —Jon Guzik
Clark Sopper’s Autodromo Group B Night Stage
Clark Sopper is a classy dude: first he was showing a Honda Kei-Truck at The Quail—you read that right, A HONDA KEI-TRUCK—so of course his tastes in watches are somewhat left of field with his Autodromo Group B watch. It’s a rare variant to boot—Autodromo only made 14 of these blacked-out watches, with only one offered for public sale. —J.G.
Joseph Cantore’s Heuer Autavia GMT
Joseph Cantore, who was showing a 1935 Mercedes-Benz 540K Cabriolet A at the Concours d’Elegance, is a collector of vintage timepieces. His super-rare Heuer Autavia 2446C GMT chronograph, powered by a Valjoux 7736 T hand-wound mechanical movement, had us in shock. —J.G.
Filip Brabec’s Orange Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Diver Special Edition
Filip Brabec, VP of product management for Audi of America, looked for this watch for months on end, as the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshores in steel are becoming as rare as hen’s teeth. This ROO, a limited-edition boutique only model, is not for the understated, what with its Orange Dial and matching rubber strap. —J.G.
Jackie Stewart’s Rolex Datejust
Hurley Haywood wasn’t the only racing great sporting a Rolex DateJust at Pebble. This is Jackie Stewart’s Gold Rolex—stop and think about that for a second. We grabbed this shot as Stewart was walking through the crowds at The Quail; always a good sport, he let us snap a shot, then paused and said, “You need it against my pants, don’tcha?” Who were we to argue? —J.G.

2019 Honda Fit
New Post has been published on https://roadsandtrack.com/2019-honda-fit/
2019 Honda Fit
For 2018, the Honda Fit received a small refresh that included new front and rear fascias, new grilles, and upgraded wheels. On top of the make over, it also gained a new Sport cut that added a touch of sportiness to this small hatchback. For 2019, we expect no major changes to the Fit.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
2019 Honda Fit Design
In terms of appearances, we anticipate the 2019 Fit to be a carryover, as there are no visual changes of note in the works. We likewise anticipate the Fit’s interior to remain the same as well. If you’re counting the days until a completely redesigned Fit strikes showrooms, you’ll have to wait a minimum of another model year, as we do not anticipate a redesign till 2020 at the earliest.
With the looks remaining the exact same within and out, we do not anticipate to see any big changes to the Fit’s basic features. If this proves real, look for it to continue with 15-inch wheels, a rearview electronic camera, air conditioning, cruise control, a tilt-and-telescoping wheel, a 5-inch display screen, and a four-speaker audio system as its standard features.
2019 Honda Fit Engine
Under its hood, we anticipate no changes, so anticipate the 2019 Fit to continue with its 1.5-liter four-cylinder that produces 128 to 130 horsepower and 113 to 114 pound-feet of torque– the lower numbers are with the optional constantly variable transmission. As previously, we anticipate a six-speed handbook to come requirement.
In IIHS screening, the current Honda Fit received “Good” rankings in all the crash checks it’s completed. Nevertheless, it is not an IIHS Top Safety Pick due to the fact that the institute has not tested it in the required small-overlap circumstance. Even if it does get a “Good” rating in the staying test, which is a hard accomplishment for a subcompact car, it still can not arrive Safety Pick+ top because of its “Poor” headlight ranking. The greatest score it can get is just Top Safety Pick.
2019 Honda Fit Pricing & Release Date
The 2019 Fit’s main release date is not offered yet, however we expect to see it in the summer of 2018. Considering that there are no changes in shop, we expect the 2019 Fit to remain near the current model’s MSRP range of $17,880 to $21,410 (location costs included). Secret competitors to the Fit include the Nissan Versa Note, the Chevrolet Sonic, and the Ford Fiesta.
